The 17 Best Restaurants In The Gulch - Nashville - The Infatuation

"If the thought of making one more decision today is enough to send you screaming into the Cumberland River, put your faith in the very capable hands of the chefs at Sushi Bar. The omakase here isn’t cheap, but it’s worth it for raw fish that beats anything you can find in Nashville—most of it comes from the Toyosu Market in Tokyo. Once you sit down at the 12-seat counter, you’ll get 17 bites that could include a scallop topped with ruby grapefruit confit and Australian winter truffle or a tuna tartar hand roll with shiso, basil, and mint. Afterward, you can grab a draft espresso martini nightcap at Golden Sound, the attached bar and lounge in front of the space." - jackie gutierrez jones 2, ann walczak

The 10 Best Fancy Restaurants In Nashville - Nashville - The Infatuation

"Good sushi is already hard to come by in Nashville, but special-occasion-worthy sushi? There’s only one spot so far that’s earned that title: Sushi Bar in the Gulch. You’ll get 17 bites, like a scallop topped with ruby grapefruit confit and Australian winter truffle, and a tuna tartar hand roll with shiso, basil, and mint. Most of the fish comes directly from the Toyosu Market in Tokyo, and it's about as fresh as you’re going to get in Tennessee. The drink pairings here all complement the fish nicely, but the champagne option feels perfectly suited for a celebratory night. Will you be dropping over $500 on dinner here? Probably, but it’s worth every benji." - jackie gutierrez jones 2, ann walczak

Best New Restaurants in Nashville, July 2024 | Eater Nashville

"A welcomed addition during Nashville’s Great Sushi Boom of 2024, the Sushi | Bar franchise that began in Austin made a buzzy entrance to Music City. The 17-course omakase experience with an exclusive 24 seats per night (two seatings of 12) costs $175 per person, with wine and sake pairings adding another hundred or so to the tab. The price tag does come with an air of exclusivity — diners arrive for a shared cocktail in a living room lounge before being ushered through a nondescript door into the intimate dining room. Then, skilled sushi chefs prepare and plate nigiri with just the right amount of flair: smoking cloches, blow torches, dollops of caviar. After dinner, join the revelers at Golden Sound, the restaurant group’s swanky cocktail bar next door." - Kellie Walton

Sushi Bar Nashville - Review - The Gulch - Nashville - The Infatuation

"It’s easy to drop $500 at this omakase spot in the Gulch, but it’s worth every benji for a special occasion. You can’t find raw fish of this caliber anywhere else in Nashville. Sushi Bar does exist in other cities, though we haven't loved the Austin location in the past and Miami’s iteration is just alright. The Nashville version works due to the simple preparations of fish and the fact that it’s connected to Golden Sound, a cocktail bar where you’ll start your night with something bubbly. photo credit: Sushi Bar photo credit: Sushi Bar photo credit: Sushi Bar photo credit: Sushi Bar Once you sit down at the 12-seat counter, you’ll get 17 bites like a scallop topped with ruby grapefruit confit and Australian winter truffle, and a tuna tartar hand roll with shiso, basil, and mint. And they're serious about their fish sourcing—most of it comes from the Toyosu Market in Tokyo, along with some salmon from New Zealand and tuna that’s caught off the coast of Spain. It’s so serious that they have fishmongers in Japan on speed dial. Food Rundown photo credit: Danielle Atkins Omakase Sushi Bar offers a 17-course omakase (not including dessert) that changes based on availability and seasonality. You might get a bowl of sweet and plucky wakame that gets refilled throughout the night at no extra cost, but then it’s straight on to 17 singular pieces of fish. Nigiri, sashimi, and handrolls using uni and cuts of tuna, scallop, salmon, mackerel, eel, and more are on the table. You’ll be offered supplements to your meal for an extra cost—things like black truffle, wagyu, and foie gras. They’re pricey and will quickly hike up your bill, so skip them. The fish stands on its own. Drink Pairing Because you’re balling out, you might as well do a drink pairing. There are five options that all cost $95 and above: a five-course wine pairing, a four-course champagne pairing, a five-course sake pairing, a six-course sake pairing, and a three-course Japanese whiskey flight. We particularly enjoyed the champagne pairing. Bubbly and sushi just works, and it never overpowers the fish." - Jackie Gutierrez-Jones
