The 12 Best Sushi Spots In Denver

"A lot has changed since 2005—Netflix doesn't send DVDs by mail anymore, Skechers are cool again, and the Platte Street neighborhood around Sushi Sasa has gotten a whole lot busier. What has stayed the same is that Sushi Sasa is still one of the best Japanese restaurants in town, and a go-to for ultra-fresh sashimi and rolls you won’t find anywhere else (like the delicious Dragon Roll topped with strawberries and unagi). It’s a bit fancier than other spots around Denver, so go for something like an anniversary rather than a first date." - allyson reedy

16 Best Sushi Spots in Denver - Eater Denver

"A mainstay for omakase (at least in normal times), Wayne Conwell’s minimalist-chic haunt at the edge of LoHi continues to earn its long reputation for excellence not only with expert nigiri and maki — including daily specials such as cuttlefish or Hokkaido scallops — but also kitchen signatures like the French onion-inspired black cod soup. Monkfish liver or oysters with foie gras are always a special treat." - Gigi Sukin, Ruth Tobias

Google
A wonderful sushi experience in LoHi Denver. I've taken the wife for a couple date night dinners & both times have been great! We've had a few different rolls & while they aren't our favorite, everything else has exceeded our expectations. The sashimi is absolutely incredible, especially the various Tuna & Yellowtail options are like butter - just melts in your mouth. Highly recommend for a date night for anyone that loves a great sushi experience.

Google
Wow, wow! Our server Phillip was excellent, everything came out perfect, we got new dishes between each course, and the food was excellent. It was actually fair priced for the quality of fish and presentation. One of my new favorite sushi restaurants in the Denver metro.

Google
A fine dining experience that is on par with Izakaya Den! Despite it being prom night, we got seated at the chef table! Had such lovely conversations with the sushi makers! The shishito peppers were so good. We also had sautéed calamari with Korean red pepper sauce and was packed with flavor! I can't remember what rolls we had but they were also delicious.

Google
I have got to say this has been the best sushi I’ve had so far here in Denver. It is the freshest fish if tasted since I’ve moved from California. I will be coming here more often then I should. To be honest, I expected it to be a lot more pricier as well since I’ve been to other “fancier” sushi spots around cherry creek and university. It did not compare. To top it off, the sushi was much better here, it was mind blowing. I will be recommending/bringing people to this place from Cali moving forward.

Google
Spontaneous visit for a quick lunch - it was very good! Decor was nice and relaxing, the service was great, and the food was pretty tasty. We tried two rolls (spicy tuna and zen salmon), they were good but didn't have much flavor. We also ordered some fried rice, and the portion is absolutely enormous.

Google
Lovely dining experience at Sushi Sasa! The fried rice was delicious and came in a sizable portion. The sushi rolls were good, but the nigiri pieces were the highlight - splurged for the wagyu and the fatty tuna. Great spot for a date night or a small group!

We dined here on a Sunday evening, we were greeted and seated promptly (reservations were made). The restaurant offers free parking but be aware rather cramped. The restaurant's simple and minimalist japanese decor offers a soothing and comfortable atmosphere. Loved the fact that they installed mirrors alongside the wall for those patrons seating facing the wall a great way to keep them in touch with the ambiance. The sushi menu is very complete, and indeed making this place a truly Sushi establishment, it has a sushi bar for those that would like to watch the experts preparing their dining selections. The dishes are well prepared and well presented, but we felt was not a wow moment, we walked out feeling the total bill did not match the dining experience. The only item ordered that we liked was the sushi plate. The Bento Box, standard with the usual Japanese items; selected the shrimp and it was very good. My biggest disappointment was the Chocolate Lava cake, it tasted as it came from the supermarket, from a box ( is not homemade). This restaurant is pricey!!, and we feel not worth the $200 dollars dinner for two (the photos are ALL we ordered for $200, (including the gratuity imposed on you). With so many choices for sushi in the Denver area, we will most likely not patronize this place again.

Google
I believe this is probably one of the top 3 sushi places I've been to. But this has the best Japanese fried rice which really pushed the rating up. I find the edamame and sushi rolls we had to be adequate, fried rice to be one of the best I've ever had and dessert to be very delicious. The staff was attentive and the atmosphere is nice but sometimes a little too noisy depending on people sitting around you. Located near downtown, the restaurant is easy to get to. Value proposition-wise, I thought the rolls we ordered were probably unjustifiable both in portion and flavour. They were decent, but I didn't feel satisfied thinking that was well worth the experience. I got more value out of fried rice and edamame than anything. This is a must-try place if you're a fan of Japanese food and sushi with somewhat high-end ingredients. I thought it was great overall.

Yelp
I was incredibly excited to try out this sushi spot, and what a treat it was! The front of house staff, including our waiter, were all nice, helpful, and very attentative. Other waiters even pitched in to make sure we had water and got our order put correctly. The food was very nice here. We ordered the pink lady roll and the YJC roll. The pink lady roll was a nice sushi roll that featured a scallop and yellow tail. It was overall a nice roll, but nothing too crazy. The YJC roll was very tasty and was definitely the star of the two, in my opinion. If you like cream cheese rolls, you will enjoy this one as well. I was still hungry after this and de ides to order the unique soy ding strawberry Shortcake roll, and all I can say is WOW! This roll was so unique and so tasty. Every bite tasted different. Even the same bite had different tastes depending on how it rolled around over your tongue! Do not miss the opportunity to order this roll! It is the perfect way to end your meal here! The pricing is nice, and there were plenty of nice seating options all around. I will definitely be back to have more sushi from here!

Yelp
Came here for dinner. We were early enough that we didn't need a reservation and were sat at the sushi bar. The restaurant is a really nice atmosphere; with great decor & ambiance. For appetizers; Miso soup - this was pretty standard miso, good flavor Spicy garlic edamame - these were so good, there was so much flavor! Would definitely order again and again! Rolls; Dragon Roll - this was the best one we had! I wasn't too sure about the strawberry on top, but it really made for an excellent roll. Diablo Roll - also a good choice and would order again! Spider Roll - this was not a good one for us, and we wouldn't order again. Maybe the soft shell crab was over cooked/fried? When we bit into it, it was like chalk, and the taste was not very good. Spicy Tuna Roll - average spicy tuna roll, would probably order again for a more simple roll option. We also ordered some nigiri and it was good/pretty standard. Over all, it was pretty decent and would maybe be back again, but it didn't standout from other sushi places for me,

Yelp
Stopped here on our way to the airport for a quick lunch. Started off with the chicken karage which was lightly friend and didn't feel too oily which I liked. We ordered 3 hand rolls which were alright and didn't have a lot of spice which I was looking for. The Japanese fried rice was a huge portion and really tasty. Overall ambiance of this place was very casual and quick service.

Yelp
With a very sad heart (and now empty belly), one of the best ever sushi spots has CLOSED as of December, 2024. However, the gifted Wayne Conwell will continue his art at his other endeavor, Tai Tai, located in the Happy Canyon strip mall (next to Birdcall/Duffy Roll): 5078 E Hampden Ave Denver, CO 80222.

Yelp
This place was recommended to us and we are happy we made it here. Friendly and warm ambiance. Suggestions were helpful. Very close to where we live so we really wanted this to be a great option for us. The sake flight was excellent and can't wait to come back to do the premium flight. Uni was fresh and very good. We sat at the sushi bar and next time will let the sushi chef make the choices for us. We highly recommend and will be back.

Yelp
So we've been here a handful of times but this last time, we got a lot of great items and I was super impressed. Food: (1) 6 piece of A5 wagyu appetizer: Incredible. Worth the price. Melt in your mouth. Beautifully seared. Nice flavor. (2) Madhi Nigiri: Melt in your mouth. I have to say, better than Uchi's (3) Tempura Veggie Roll: Wasn't my favorite, quite bland in my opinion. Needs a sauce of some sort. (4) Strawberry Shortcake Roll: Pretty good but not my favorite. Has cream cheese and strawberry. (5) Unagi: Melt in your mouth (I think you see a theme here). So good. (7) Bluefin otoro nigiri: Yum!! I always say if I can cut the fish with my tongue, it's perfect. I could ;) (8) Caterpillar Roll: Was good but nothing to write home about. I think the resolution is to get more nigiri!! Service: Attentive. I will say when we were here previously, service was not good (super busy And waited 2 hours for all our food). So seems hit or miss. Ambience: Higher end, white table cloths but still approachable.

Yelp
Sushi Sasa is one of my top five sushi restaurants in Denver. I love that I can have gluten free freshwater eel and other unique rolls. The veggie fried rice and shishito peppers on their happy hour menu they also made both gf for me as well. And their derive has always been top notch.

Yelp
Dear God, this place is amazing. Service is always on point. Love the white linen atmosphere. The toro and tuna sashimi dishes are perfectly prepared. I could fill up on just the nigiri section alone! The fried rice the the literal best I've ever had. Good lord, the running egg there is so good. Grilled Artichoke, also bomb. Oyster with a runny Quail Egg, also fire. Love the snake river foie gras and mis ramen. Will be back!

Yelp
The skinny: Fresh fish, but overall price and vibes don't measure up to other similar better places in Denver. Yummy but there are better spots for the price (Go to Uchi, Sushi Ronin, or Sushi/Izakaya Den instead) Overview: We came here with reservations for a bday celebration on a Saturday night. Had heard some good things so were excited to try it out. The overall experience left me a bit disappointed and I honestly was contemplating a 3 vs 4 score. Overall, there are just better overall experiences at other sushi spots. For food we had a variety of nigiri which were great. The other sushi rolls & apps left a little to be desired. Standouts: Uni, Hotate, Hamachi, fatty tuna. Fresh, flavorful, melt in your mouth. Left something to be desired: Wagyu sushi roll, Jalapeño yellowtail sashimi. Wagyu roll, while you could tell the meat was good, it didn't quite balance for me. Maybe the nigiri where there was more meat to rice ratio would be better. The rice was a bit too packed and almost smooshed (vs fluffy with the ability to feel out the different grains of rice). Jalepeno yellowtail was decent but in terms of flavor combos - I've had much better at places like Uchi, Sushi Ronin. Ambiance: While the spot looks really cute, the service and vibes left a bit to be desired. The host was super friendly, but the staff otherwise felt a lot more transactional than friendly. Normally this isn't an issue for me but for a pricey spot I expect a certain level of service. For example, most high end sushi spots focus on detailing the menu, telling you what is freshest, and provide recommendations. The overall experience of going through the menu is a part of a higher end sushi place - Sushi Sasa lacked this. They also came by after we finished our food and asked if we wanted to order more, we had said no to food expecting to see a dessert menu. Instead they cleaned the table and brought over the check. Finally, I would have expected at least something small done for a bday celebration but that did not happen either. Again, normally not a big deal, but for the price, I would have expected more. Would I come back: With so many great sushi spots at a similar price point, I probably wouldn't come back. The overall food quality didn't make up for what was lacking in ambiance and service. I'd hit up Uchi, Sushi Ronin, or Sushi/Izakaya Den!

Yelp
Quite disappointed in our dining experience tonight. This is my second time here and a lot of things went wrong. I ordered the Snake River Beef Truffle Foie Gras appetizer and got the wrong beef dish. Our server took it away to get the right one made and a different server brought the incorrect appetizer that we sent back right back to us within minutes. After we had it taken away again, our server brought us the correct appetizer, only for us to find multiple hair in it. We sent it back and asked for it not to be remade as our entree sushi rolls had come out by that time. We were told the appetizer would be removed from our bill. We asked for plates so we can eat the sushi entrees. Unfortunately, the plate also had a hair. Chalking it up to a series of bad luck, we just let it go and asked for our check once we were done... which arrived with the appetizer on the bill. Then we were questioned whether we ordered multiple appetizers before they took it and removed it from the bill. Meanwhile, our server disappeared after the appetizer was taken back a second time and we hadn't seen him again since. The service was incredibly disorganized and quite a disappointing experience, given that the food is actually good...when it's not insanitary and contains hair in it. 2 stars because the food is good, removed 3 stars for multiple instances of bad service. Proceed with caution.

Yelp
We dined at Sushi Sasa for a friend's 40th birthday. The service was absolutely perfect. From the host to paying everything went really smoothly. We got several dishes and everything was delicious. My favorite was the hamachi jalapeno. Such an amazing dish with cherry tomatoes and delicious ponzu sauce. The prices are a bit high but great spot for any special occasion.

Yelp
The food was delicious. Although I found it strange to find sushi which included strawberries. The service was excellent. Ambiance was romantic and fun.

Yelp
Sushi Sasa serves up some of the best sushi in Denver. Hidden in the exciting and vibrant Platte Street area, the quality of the food is exquisite and everything that they serve is incredibly delicious. I can confidently say that they're right up there with and in the same league as Sushi Den and Uchi, which are the other two best sushi places in the area. But they're not a copycat either, Sushi Sasa offers quite a few menu items that you can't really find anywhere else. They have a really great menu, very cozy ambience, and very good service. Their drink menu actually blew me away. They offer a lot of different Japanese imports that I've never seen. Something new I tried was the Kyoto Matcha IPA which was awesome. Their cocktails are also phenomenal though, the Edlerflower Martini and Sasa Sour are amazing. Food-wise, I want to call out their three best menu items: the Wagyu Nigiri, Scottish Salmon roll, and Rocky Mountain Roll. I will be lusting over these dishes for quite some time. The Wagyu Nigiri tastes like the best steak you have ever eaten, and the Scottish Salmon is unique, tangy and delicious, served with a ponzu sauce that elevates the roll to a whole other level. The Rocky Mountain roll was quite a surprise to see on the menu, as that is actually my all-time favorite roll that I previously only thought you can get at Sushi Den. The smoked trout in the Rocky Mountain roll is more delicious than I can possibly explain, you need to try it. I can see myself coming here very frequently. It's very easy to get a same-day reservation here, so if you're craving delicious sushi you don't need to wait a month to get into Sushi Den with a reservation, just come here. The Platte Street area is also a great place to be and hangout in. You cannot go wrong coming here, no matter what the occasion is.

Yelp
I've tried a lot of sushi places in Denver and none of them compare to this place. They have the freshest fish and the most unique rolls.

Yelp
My recent visit to Sushi Sasa was terrible, primarily due to the service. As soon as we walked in, I could tell the waitress or manager wasn't giving us a warm welcome. The rest of the staff seemed uninterested, and that feeling lasted the whole meal. While the sushi was okay, it wasn't enough to make up for the rotten service. Customer service is more than just bringing food to a table. It also means making the restaurant feel welcoming and making sure customers are happy, which is where Sushi Sasa really fell short. I'm a Colorado native, and out of my 40 years of dining, this experience was the most bizarre. The employees must have read a book on how to provide a pleasant dining experience and then did the exact opposite. In the future, customers may consider visiting different restaurants for a more enjoyable sushi experience. Advice for management: train your staff or clean house and start over.

Yelp
WOW! This has to be one of my new sushi faves!!! My friend and I ordered an app of lemon garlic Edamame, Dragon Rolls, and Spider Rolls. The Dragon Rolls topped with strawberries and eel were by far our top choice! We also split a 500mL bottle of flavored citrus Saki - it tasted like a lemon drop but was refreshing (probably wouldn't order it again as it was incredibly sweet). The service was prompt, attentive, and gave us ample time to dine and converse without being interrupted. The ambiance was certainly intimate and I'd assume reservations are required on weekends as this place seems to be quite popular. My friend and I went on a Wednesday night, however, and were seated right away.

Yelp
This has become one of my favorite sushi restaurants in Denver. Their sushi was extremely fresh, and their drinks were so flavorful but not aggressively strong. We received fantastic service, and I loved how traditional the aesthetic was.

S P.

Yelp
The food is really good except for the sushi rice texture. It's quite dense not fluffy as I expected. By the way we had leftovers. When I asked a server for a plastic bag to hold two plastic food containers, I got a "BLACK" plastic bag.... I wish I got the nice store logo bag for take out, or at least a "White" regular plastic bag. I don't think that they want others to see a 'trash bag like' coming out of their store by customers. Without it, it was a good dinner.

Yelp
Mid. Not worth the price. Cha soba noodles was very bland. I'm ok with simple but deep broths but this was simply bland.

Yelp
This is such a hidden Gem of Denver, best sushi in all of Colorado (in my opinion). Their sushi is ordered fresh in the morning, made perfectly to order, and has never failed to leave me satisfied. The staff is kind and efficient, and is always topping of your drinks when needed. Everything on their menu is a must order, and we always have to order some to go. This classy and expensive place, is absolutely worth every penny.

Yelp
Such a great experience from the start! We sat at the sushi bar and watched the chefs make sushi the entire time. The host and server were so kind and helpful, giving us awesome recs. I actually spilled my drink while eating and so many people offered to help and I had a new drink in front of me in under 30 seconds. The hamachi and eggplant buns were my favorite- a little spicy, sweet, and fresh. Great portion sizes too! Will definitely be back.

Lauren S.

Yelp
The food is always delicious here. Absolutely zero complaints about it. Because of that, my fiancé chose this restaurant to celebrate our engagement and was sure to let the restaurant know that it was a celebratory dinner. The waitress was extremely attentive but there was no mention of the celebration or engagement the entire dinner. For such a nice, elevated place, we expected more and were a tad disappointed.
google avatar

Yelp
The sushi was amazing! If it is on the menu my husband and I recommend the Rocky Mountain roll. The staff were wonderful and so nice and very attentive.
google avatar

Yelp
21% service fee for eating at the sushi bar?!?! Is that not ridiculous? I've seen service fees in between 5-9%, but nothing compares to their service fee. I am disappointed that this was not told upfront or placed in the menu they provided. I had to wait until I received my receipt to learn the 21% service charge. And then I need to tip 20% to my server afterwards? So outside of my meal, I end up paying 41% additional. The ambience was nice, and the quality of the food was as expected, but the portions were smaller compared to many other sushi locations I've eaten at. I will not be coming here again.

Yelp
One of the best sushi places I've been to. Came here for lunch on the middle of the week. When we walked in we were immediately greeted and sat at a booth/table. The waitress was very prompt with her welcoming and expressed that she was there to help with any questions. The menu has some unique, high quality items as well as some of the basics. The Scottish Salmon Roll is expensive at $19, but very tasty and fresh. My favorite was the unagi (eel) sashimi. It was so light and melted in your mouth-- Will come back JUST FOR THIS. Very clean open atmosphere, helpful kind staff and fresh high quality sushi. Absolutely recommend and will be back!

Yelp
Favorite sushi place in Denver! This was actually the first sushi place I went to in Denver and I have not been anywhere else here nearly as good. I would recommend getting nigiri or rolls. The rolls with fruit are surprisingly good. Love the one with eel and strawberries.

Yelp
We have had our share of sushi and our mission for our trip to Denver this time around was to find the best overall sushi place. We had 6 different places, some were really good at just sashimi but terrible in rolls and vice versa. We judge sushi by ordering sashimi, a few common appetizers and their more popular rolls. We were skeptical at first when we saw strawberries in some of the rolls but decided to keep an open mind and we are so glad we did. First, the waiter was amazing and suggested a bottle of pure white sake, which really complimented the meal. We started with lemon garlic edamame. When the edamame is amazing, that's a really great sign. We then ordered an assortment of sashimi, toro tuna, maguro tuna, yellowtail and octopus. We also ordered the Diablo and dragon rolls. Omg we were blown away at the coloring, flavor combos and freshness. The dragon roll hit a different way and we loved it. We complimented the waiter on how amazing everything was and that sasa is definitely the best sushi place in town. We then proceeded to order 2 more pieces of sashimi. The waiter served it and said that this was compliments of the chef. What a really nice thing to do. We simply enjoyed every bite of our meal. Don't sleep on this spot. Make a reservation and be prepared to be blown away

Yelp
This was our whole group's first time coming here, celebrating a friend's birthday. The food was so amazing, although it took a while to come out. We ordered a ton of rolls, nigiri, and a few appetizers. They all tasted so good, some of the best sushi I've had in a long time and I've worked at another sushi restaurant for three years. The reason for two stars is that our server was really off-putting. From the minute the first of us sat down, she seemed to be so upset every time we asked for something and would either sigh or roll her eyes. We had been there for 30 minutes and we were just finishing up our order, she came up to us super annoyed saying "Is your order ready yet? If you guys don't put it in soon it's going to take two hours." We appreciated the heads up but it just seemed like she wanted nothing to do with us. We are all service industry workers, we understand a big table can be a hassle but we were genuinely surprised at the way she acted the whole time she was serving us. Overall the food was great, but the service was seriously lacking, especially for how much money we spent.

Yelp
Firstly, make a reservation ahead of time for this intimate restaurant. The food and drinks was very tasty and my sushi chef was very knowledgeable and watching him work was like live entertainment in itself. That guy was like a master at sushi making. The waiters were everywhere ready to take away plates or empty drink glasses and they were very fast at accommodating me. This is definitely a nice first date restaurant.

Yelp
So impeccably authentic Japanese restaurant is the compliment I want to pay to Sushi Sasa based on my tonight's dining experience. We were a bit early for our 5:45pm dinner reservation so when we arrived there were only a handful of tables occupied by customers. It looked small when we stepped in but this place is quite spacious as there is a separate dining area if/when you make a right in front of the sushi bar. "Irasshai" is the Japanese way of saying "welcome"! Several sushi chefs greeted us in this way as we passed by the bar. What caught my attention in the drink menu was the Lavender Lychee Martini with a hint of pineapple. The description of it pretty much speaks for itself as to how amazing this cocktail is and it tasted delightful. The food menu is quite extensive as well. Everything we ordered tasted amazing! When it comes to sushi, we are more of nigiri people but out of curiosity we ordered one roll (Scottish Salmon roll); we HIGHLY recommend this one. Our waiter was very attentive to our needs; we were impeccably served by him is not an overstatement. The restaurant's mostly white interior is very simple and yet it definitely emits a very clean feeling throughout.

Yelp
I know restaurants are struggling right now with the pandemic and trying to keep a good staff. The service was not bad. They were actually really good with the service. I just don't get what was going on with the ac. It was so hot in the dining area which made it uncomfortable being there and eating. It is also so expensive here for descent sushi. It is not like Sushi Den or Izakaya Den. If I pay the same price, I would expect to have the same experience as those restaurants. The sushi was good especially the Scottish salmon roll, spider roll, and miso cod.

Mark R.

Yelp
The service was Outstanding!!! The food was also excellent a little pricey but was worth it We had a very good time there. I treated my son and his wife for Christmas and their 2 yr old baby. We dined there on January 6th, 2024 at 5:00Pm. would definitely dine there again. The Ambiance was also very nice.

Yelp
If you looked at my history with Sasa, you would see that I have probably been 50 times over the past 5 years (including supporting through COVID). My experience tonight was horrible. Something happened where a sauce was flung onto my face and sweater (green oily sauce all over my face). I am absolutely not blaming the individual that dropped the food because I understand accidents happen. It was the service from the front of house staff that was awful. There were 5 people standing by the wall that did not step up with another napkin or anything, the waitress never addressed other than offering a free dessert and then proceeding to put the dessert on the check that she gave to us, a manager never spoke to us, and we still had a 21% service charge (which I am not opposed to when the experience is good - just subpar even). All of this to say is that for the price you are paying at Sushi Sasa, I would say that the service is absolutely not what I would expect. Especially with an auto 21% service charge. If you are looking for a dining experience that doesn't leave you feeling uneasy about that service fee, I would look elsewhere.

Yelp
Sasa is soso... Not very impressive at all, to begin with, and EXTREMELY expensive. Cheap "to-go" style wooden chop sticks pair with plain white table cloths as though you're at a generic Italian restaurant. The bottom line is that the price does not match the product. Save your money - check out the new restaurant that will inhabit this space soon. I could go on... But it's not worth it - skip it.

Yelp
I've heard many good things about Sushi Sasa so yesterday we drove up to Denver to meet a good friend for dinner here. I wish Yelps scoring was over multiple items..if so I'd rate them as follows: Entrees: 4 to 5 Service: 3 Desert: 1 I was excited about this visit. We ordered lots of nigiri and rolls. Honestly I can't tell all. Spicy Tuna Roll, Avacado Roll, Pink Lady Roll, Spider Roll maybe others.. for nigiri tuna, yellowtail, scallops, octopus and I don't remember...It was all delicious and my friend and I were stuffed. My wife ordered the tempura entree. Veggies and chicken. It looked great but I was to full to try a bite (dang)! At the end she also ordered the molten lava cake. Huge bust! I don't know if it was made days earlier or what. The part of the cake you could cut through was dry. The other third or so was rock hard. I could not cut through it with the little spoons they give. Any other time it would have been sent back (and we probably should have) but with my friend there I just didn't feel like it. The ice cream came on the side, we all devoured that and there was a bowl of chocolate sauce, seemed to have a hint of mint...nice We also had a bottle of pieropan white..good maker and nice to see on the list. Service was fine..nothing special thus as I mentioned it would be three stars. All in all it was about $300. Sushi was very good, but for me the rest just ok, especially at that price point and with the huge desert bust..

Yelp
The sushi was good When it comes to sushi and barbecue, I sometimes start my reviews by saying I'm not really a food critic, I just play one on Yelp. To me, all sushi is good, all barbecue is good. With that disclaimer, I can state the sushi we had this evening was good. While that is not overly helpful to anyone reading this review, I am quick to add I dined with a couple of sushi experts. Their opinion is Sushi Sasa is the best sushi in downtown Denver. I believe them. Aside from being a little slow in the end, service was great. We got so much food, and with one bite at a time it all disappeared. Even my 8 yr old granddaughter likes their sushi, becoming a little expert herself. But the real expert, from what I read, is Chef Wayne Conwell. This is an upscale restaurant that takes pride in what they serve, as I understood from our server when he learned it was a first visit by my wife and I. Nicer inside than it looks from the outside, if you appreciate good sushi you may want to give them a try.

Yelp
I have travled many places and had some pretty fantastic food prepared for me. This place by far is on top of my list. Traditional Japanese cuisine with a twist of fusion. During this visit, I had the pleasure to enjoy Omakase that was prepared by Owner Chef Wayne and his crew. I have met him many years ago and I am still amazed by his creativities which he incorporate east mets west culinary flavors into his dishes. Fresh selection of fish for his sushi a la cart customers and delicately prepared kitchen dishes if you are not into raw fish. This restaurant is a must try if you are a foodie. Thank you Chef Wayne. I am looking forward to come by your restaurant on my next visit in Denver.

Yelp
It was my first time here and I tried the Omakase menu. These are part of the 9 course dishes. It was a variety of ingredients mostly seafood but also a few dishes of steak which was surprisingly tasty as a compliment to the sashimi. The atmosphere was average for me. But its the food that matters.

Yelp
Really solid! My usual non Sushi Den spot is Mizu Izakaya - but it's too loud to bring your elderly parents there. Happy we tried Sushi Sasa. The nigiri was all excellent.

Yelp
Dinner with them tonight, ordered one sake of $90 but they charged $128 on the bill, after I pointed it out, just gave me another bill without explanation and without apology. Besides we had waited half an hour for two dishes we ordered until they told me we had all dishes. No recommendation for sure.

Yelp
I admit I didn't know what "good sushi" was until I came here. I may be ruined for other sushi spots in Denver and Englewood now because my sushi was so incredible. I had a spicy tuna roll (classic) and the Diablo roll (yes, more tuna). Both were better than tuna rolls I've had at any other sushi spot I remember. We also split the ribs which were really good, especially the sauce that came with them!

Yelp
Dawg. The wait times. I get it's a la carte but I can't tell if we came during a busy time or not but the time in between dishes we ordered at the same time was otherworldly. The sushi and sashimi was good but man. Also if you get seated at the downstairs table near the stairs as you enter the downstairs dining area, be careful, it's more wobbly than a bobble head on a speed bump.

Yelp
I was here for a dinner outing with my girls this past Sunday. Our server was very friendly, attentive, bubbly. I really like her, her name is Lily. She would ask if we want switch out plates for us. Refill our water constantly. Recommending lychee martini! Also, the Sasa sour! That was ahhh-mazing!!!! We did family style, where we all share. We had the sashimi platter, the spicy tuna roll, o toro nigiri. Overall, it was an amazing experience and the service was awesome! I definitely come back for date night and family get together! Thank you Lily!

Yelp
Wagyu nigiri was delicious and our favorite of the night. We enjoyed all the sushi and nigiri. Four stars because service was subpar and slow. Waitress seemed like she didn't want to be there.

Yelp
Didn't even get to eat here. I made a reservation for 9:30pm (the latest available being 9:45pm). I received a call from the hostess, Addie, who asked if I wanted to cancel because I wouldn't get the full experience as the restaurant closes at 10pm. I called her back saying our group wasn't doing omakase and she told me it didn't matter. She recommended to switch to 8pm. She called me a second time to leave a voicemail asking if I made a decision on my reservation yet. I ended up cancelling as I felt the restaurant did not want to accommodate our group and persistently tried to make me cancel my reservation. Why bother making reservations available after 8pm if your hostess is going to try to convince the guest to cancel???
