10 Excellent Sushi Restaurants in the Phoenix Area

"Locals know this affordable spot in Scottsdale for its quality sushi at good prices. Take, for example, the $5 sushi roll menu, which includes chunky spicy tuna, crunchy onion, white tuna tataki, and more: Just two or three rolls satisfies most diners." - Steven Totten, Stephanie Carter

Absolutely wonderful. Ordered to go. They are so kind and make the most authentic Japanese food I've found in Arizona. Best eel, okonomiyaki and katsu don. Also loved the cold udon. Highly recommend. My husband loved okonomiyaki. In italy its hard to find. We've only found it in milan and Rome. Haven't tried the restaurant in Bologna that has it. I found a free stores that sell the ingredients in Padua and Milan. But I'm not very good at making it. Always thrilled to find restaurants that make it ❤️ They also make the perfect katsu don bowls. Just like we had when my mom worked back and forward going to Japan. The eel is big portions too. So many restaurants give you so little. This restaurant is the best in every way. From those that work here to the food.

Wow. What a find. I had the beef curry and I felt like I was back in Tokyo. It was delicious. Their lunch specials are incredible values. As you can see in the pics. The nigiri are huge. Literally two bites. Sushi was very fresh. Ladies who work here are very friendly and hard working.

Quality of sushi is excellent. Have so many good options to choose from. I tend to stick to sushi, but love all other menu, so try to venture out once in a while. Chef and staffs are professional and have a good vibes. You will not be disappointed as I highly recommend. Just be patient as with good food, wait time can get longer.

Google
The Sashimi is very fresh! We ordered Chirashi Combo and Okonomi Chirashi. Very good quality. The miso soup is so flavorful! And Edamame is very fresh, too. We will definitely come back when we visit Phoenix again.

Google
We came here after an event. Food was good. The bento box had lots of food for $26. I got mine with a crunchy ca roll, tuna sashimi (which was just ok quality wise) and tempura. Service was slow, but food came out fast after ordering.

Google
Always filled with customers, getting your servers' attention is the closest to negative. 1/2 Japanese & it's nice to see the traditional pickled vegetables & futomaki on the menu.

I had an incredible dining experience at this hidden gem in North Scottsdale. The sushi rolls were fresh and flavorful and there were so many options. The happy hour special that runs everyday is a steal! I highly recommend this spot for anyone craving delicious sushi.

Google
my favorite Japanese restaurant and the best of everything: food quality, food selection, fresh sushi, customer service, warm atmosphere! Best local and support local business!

Yelp
Sushi Sen is my favorite Japanese restaurant in Arizona! I don't know who else beats this place but I always recommend this place to my friends and family. They offer a variety of sushi as well as traditional Japanese dishes. They are consistently good too! The place is always full but it is also on the smaller side. There's a sushi bar and also a small outdoor patio to enjoy nice weather. Space heaters are available. My go to most of the time are: agedashi sushi and edamame beans to start off. Then nigiri or sashimi (salmon, toro, yellowtail). These are always fresh. Cooked rolls: dragon or caterpillar roll. Then for dinner entree, I love the eel in the box, pork katsu curry (dinner portion), and tonkatsu ramen. The sauces and flavors are so yummy! I love having some of these for leftovers. It's hard to narrow it down to what I want to eat. But those are some good options if you're having a hard time choosing.

Yelp
What I love about this place is how extensive their menu is. They offer many dishes other Japanese places in the area do not. On our most recent visit, we ordered pan fried gyoza, spicy scallop nigiri, sea urchin nigiri, salmon skin roll, spicy scallop roll, and tempura udon. The gyoza, always a classic standard, that one can't go wrong with. The nigiri and rolls were of good quality. Not the best I've had in the state, but also not the worst. Props to the scallops, they were plentiful, plump and tasted fresh. The only dish we were disappointed with was the tempura udon. The broth was overly salty. Generally, service here has been a hit or a miss. Sometimes we've felt rushed to order, other times we've felt ignored. If you're looking for decent Japanese food in the area for a reasonable price, I would still recommend this place regardless of the service. The restaurant overall, is a bit on the smaller side so it gives off a cozy vibe with thematic décor throughout.

Yelp
This place is great if you're craving sushi. The service is fast and the wait staff are very friendly. The place was crowded when I visited. Ihave the yami roll a try. My taste buds were satisfied but i struggled to eat it because of the size. There was alot of items in there. Lol There is outdoor and indoor seating. However, the inside dining area is fairly small and there was a wait to be seated. It's located in a shopping center. Ample parking. Accessible parking and entrance.

Yelp
I love coming here for their negi-toro don! It's really a 4.5. Have I had fresher, better tasting sushi? Sure, but value for the quality here is fantastic. I normally get a bento here, which includes edamame, cucumber salad, miso soup, and your choosing of sashimi (I believe six pieces), sushi, and a hot dish for about $26. My go to is the salmon sashimi, a bowl of negi toro don, and their beef stew (to die for)! I've also had their noodle combo as well, which includes your choice of noodles and sushi, for $26-30. I usually get the garlic tonkatsu ramen and the Negi toro don. They also have a happy hour rotation of rolls between 4:30-6, which includes a handful of rolls for only $5! Service is attentive and prompt. It's a small space. I believe they close after lunch and reopen at 4:30. The space is small. I recommend coming here right around when they open for dinner, otherwise you're prepared to be placed on a waitlist.

Yelp
What a great place to go if you want Ramon or sushi! Service was good and they have outside seating as well. It's a small place so be aware that if you have a large group you might have to wait or call ahead. Great place for some friends or couples to get together and have some wonderful food.

Jen G.

Yelp
Sushi Sen is such a great spot! The prices for happy hour, especially the rolls was unreal. The quality of the fish was amazing and the service was excellent. It's a cute little spot you'd walk right by and not even notice, but definitely worth a stop. They also have some of the best sashimi (and most generous slices) I've ever had.
google avatar

Yelp
For the price, I don't know where else you can find sushi of this kind around Scottsdale. Sushi Sen has a $5 sushi deal on 10 different speciality rolls that runs all day every day!! These are not just basic rolls; these are $5 speciality rolls! At first I was a bit suspicious, but it really was good sushi! Tried 5 of the speciality rolls, of the five, the chunky spicy toro and chunky spicy tuna rolls were definitely my favorite. The quality of the fish and flavors were there. They do not skimp out on the fish for the price. I will say the negihama ponzu rolls was a bit fishy, unsure if that speaks more to the nature of the roll or the fish I was served, but I wouldn't order this one again due to personal preference. Crispy onion roll was also tasty, just more of a basic style roll. Additionally, the veggie yakisoba was pretty decent-large portion. Also, tuesday they have 1/2 priced bottles of wine. Crazy deal to be getting 5 sushi rolls + a bottle of wine for under $50. Perfect for an affordable date night! The quality of sushi for the price alone makes this place worth coming back to time and time again. Overall, service was good-sushi came out quickly and servers were friendly!

Yelp
Favorite Japanese Restaurant in the greater Phoenix area. Born and raised in Hawai'i and lived in the san Francisco prior to moving to Phoenix where finding excellent Pacific Asian food was guarantee. A meal at Sushi Sen has never disappointed.

Yelp
Food was excellent, restaurant was Sushi Ken in Ahwatukee. Now in Scottsdale, customer service was great as always. I highly recommend this japanese restaurant. The ambience is very down to earth mellow

Yelp
I feel like this is such a hidden gem for authentic Japanese tasting sushi and fresh fish for arizona. My personal favorite was the dynamite california roll because it was warm but it is a lot if you like simple rolls. Great prices, good service, ambiance felt like Japan. I will definitely be back to try more things from the menu!

Yelp
I wasn't overly thrilled with this happy hour. Arrived promptly at the start of their short HH window, and was seated in a very empty dining room. One other table was occupied on a Tuesday afternoon, yet the servers seemed indifferent to even taking a drink order for a very long time after I was seated. Hmmm. Reviews warned of the need to flag them down. Hot sake in my belly, friend late, server was unbothered and came back when she arrived. We ordered a great cucumber salad, which seemed overpriced until you account for the nice tender pile of slivered octopus on top. What a surprise and very welcome addition to a traditional sunomono. I struggled with what to order because the menu does not describe the ingredients in the rolls and I had to ask a lot of questions. Server was patient. I chose the dynamite cali roll and an eel avocado roll. They were only ok. The dynamite roll had a pile of goo on top that really had me wondering about what I was eating. Seems it was just more cali roll filling browned in the oven but not sure. Strange and it was definitely not finished by either of us. The eel avocado roll was fine, a bit too much super sweet eel sauce all over it for my taste. Both dishes were too sweet with sauce and glop. Friend wasn't very hungry and only had one cali roll and some cucumber salad. I also tried a cocktail because they have an interesting cocktail program with a variety of sake, yuzu, nigori and Jim Beam drinks. Plus a full bar if you want to create your own. Again, they don't describe what is in the drinks and I had to ask. Anyway, single shot simple bright light cocktails for $6.50 are difficult to beat! Although this is far from my home and i likely won't back, I wanted to share my experience to help others. The happy hour rolls are $5.50 and they are full sized 8 piece rolls. But their style is not my preference based on the sample I tried. Best of luck to you in finding a favorite!

Yelp
As someone who grew up in Japan, I think this place is oh-so-good. I felt like I was in Japan. Even the air fresher in the bathroom was from Japan, haha. I got the noodle combination with tonkotsu tsukemen and mini chirashi. All for about $30 with tax. That's an excellent price for what you get. I became full very quickly and had to take some home. The sashimi pieces on the mini chirashi are so big. I would come back here again. Very kind attentive service as well!

Yelp
Came by during happy hour and had a great meal! We originally were going to go to a diff sushi spot for AYCE, but got just as full here for cheaper! Rolls are $5 each and nigiri $6 for 2 pieces here before 5:45pm. We arrived at 5:15pm and were seated right away. While it got crowded and took a while to get seated, once we ordered our food came quickly. The nigiris had huge and thick slices of fish which we appreciated!! It was so good. The rolls were also great. We particularly enjoyed the baked alaska and tuna tataki roll. We'll definitely be back for another happy hour!

Yelp
Food and service are excellent. Restaurant has a very cozy atmosphere. My kid and I really like the food and the ambiance.

Yelp
I'm reluctantly giving this place 5 stars but it's definitely 4.5. I literally just went here BEFORE reading any of these reviews. I had known this spot was supposed to be pretty good but I never found myself planning to come here. Which is good because after reading some of these reviews I might have been deterred to come and wait in line for service. The place is really pretty small as well. But there literally was NOBODY and the entire sushi bar was open. So don't believe everything you read, there are two sides of the coin. I did NOT find that this was super affordable, so not sure what the other reviewers stating that were basing their remarks on. But, it is very good and the service was really great. I had a lunch bento box, they have a crazy amount of choices. I also realize they are really Japanese people which is always a nice touch in a sushi restaurant. They have quite a few rolls to choose from, a very Americanized way since rolls dont' exist in Japan. But I opted for the yellowtail sashimi, don tuna, and salmon collar. Was a mesmerizing amount of food so, again, while pricey, maybe people see real value. I did NOT indulge in the happy hour but I guess given those items are at $5 I would say this would have incredible value. I would come back here again, maybe order something off the menu. I do NOT think this is good for groups of larger than 4-5 though. But I'm sure it's more fun when you're not just one.

Yelp
My family and I have been here over half a dozen times since the recommendation from my friend. They have great sushi at great prices. The staff is always friendly and service is prompt. Their ramens are pretty good as well. Their unagi don is pricey, but they give you a lot of eel on top, so I'd say it's worth the price. Ambiance is casual and has a typical Japanese vibe from the entrance signage to the interior. I highly recommend this place for lunch with friends and family. It's a family run restaurant and Im all for supporting a local small business! Keep up the good work, guys!

Yelp
8 of my family members came in for happy hour. We got here around 4:20 and waited outside with a couple other people as well. If you're coming without a reservation get there early so you can get a seat! The 5$ sushi rolls: white fish Tataki, chunky tuna, chunky yellowtail, were all so delicious!!! Great portion size with cuts of meat on top. All of it melted in my mouth! we also go $6 sushi: salmon and yellowtail! Wow! These were amazing!!! Great portion of fish with a nice amount of rice. Very balanced portions for the sushi! Must have sushi on happy hour! The house salad was also very delicious! We got a large and shared amongst the group. The dressing is so delicious and all the toppings were very fresh! We ordered two miso soups which were good as well! We had some baked green mussels which were good! They put crab mix in it too which was new for us. We ordered the dynamite roll for 5$ and that was our least favorite. It was slightly overcooked in some areas. I think it was good but different than we're used to! Still check it out if you like the mix of fish and scallops! The total for all 8 of us with included tip is 310$

Yelp
My favorite neighborhood sushi restaurant. Family owned, great service, great food and great happy hour! This place is amazing.

Michael C.

Yelp
Parking: plenty in outside lot Service: 0/5. Waitress was so rude, nasty and short. Didn't understand our order. When it came time to give us our food, she was literally throwing the dishes down on the table. Gave 4 people a small teaspoon of Wasabi and few slices of ginger. She was nice when it came time to give us the check. Food: 0/5. Chicken teriyaki was bone dry. Did not taste fresh. Teriyaki had no flavor. Sushi was not fresh. My two little nephews who normally eat anything and everything put in front of them including Ramen and sushi left a lot on their plate. Udon was lukewarm. Yellowtail kama was very dry and not seasoned. It broke apart when picking it up. Hot green tea was horrible. Store bought tea would be way better. Miso soup had zero flavor. Ambiance: loud. Not a good date spot. All 9 of our party will never come back. Shocked this place has over 4 stars.

Yelp
This amazing restaurant has been in the East Valley for a very long time. Location change and name has undergone a slight modification, but the ambiance and quality of food served has remained top notch! The service has always been great, despite being such a busy, happening spot! These folks have been consistent for over 17 years that we have been coming. Cannot go wrong with this place!
google avatar

Ashley P.

Yelp
Came here on the way home from work since I was craving sushi and missed their happy hour by a few minutes (until 5:45pm). But, they have about 10 items (including 9 rolls) that are $5 each all day! They also have a special on Wednesdays that's $25 for a bottle of wine and two rolls. I ended up getting 3 rolls. Figured I could try them out and take whatever was left back home. I got the chunky toro, negihama and dynamite rolls. They were all really good and didn't take much time at all to make despite the place being pretty packed for a Wednesday at 6pm. I wouldn't say it's the best sushi I've ever had, but for the price and great service, I'd say it's definitely a place to check out!
google avatar

Shantell C.

Yelp
Highly recommend reservations especially if it's a large group or on the weekend. Seclusions sushi rolls, nigiri was fresh fish. Staff is very attentive and efficient.
google avatar

Lulu F.

Yelp
My absolute favorite spot for sushi because who would turn down $5 sushi rolls?? Their rolls are always so fresh and delicious, highlyyyy recommend.

Kelley C.

Yelp
This is my favorite sushi restaurant in AZ as I have been going here since I was a kid and their food has always been so comforting. Their sushi is always fresh and the bentos are amazing if you wanted to get a little bit of everything. Their combo options for noodles and small dish is always a good deal as there is so much food. Furthermore, the owner is the nicest and the staff are always attentive. With their growing popularity and with the restaurant leaning towards the smaller side (but cozy), I would recommend putting down a reservation if you are going on a weekend.
google avatar

Ti W.

Yelp
Great sushi for price! I love the combo which can allow you to eat everything (ramen + sushi, sushi + sashimi, etc.). The raw fish is very fresh. The toro with scallop is highly recommended! The only reason for a four star instead of five is that the ramen is a bit too salty.
google avatar

Lois B.

Yelp
Solid sushi spot! Our favorite was the scallop nigiri they were so generous with their portions. We finished our dinner with the black garlic ramen which was a little too salty for me but once i diluted it with some water it was perfect. We'll definitely come back again.

Valerie R.

Yelp
Great sushi. We picked up our order. Sashimi and veggie tempura. Both were delicious.
google avatar

Charles C.

Yelp
Go to sushi here in the valley of the Sun. Sushi is amazing and happy hour value is amazing. Had the salmon Karma this time and was amazing!!
google avatar

Andy S.

Yelp
Very low quality Japanese food. As someone who has lived in Japan this place wouldn't survive a day there. Sushi fish quality is bottom barrel and borderline old/rancid. Curry was tasteless, watery and not homemade, it tasted exactly as the cheap boxed brand sold in grocery stores. Ramen is clearly not freshly made and is almost certainly a mix, completely flavorless and beyond salty. The only reason I could think for decent ratings are their happy hour specials and perhaps drinks. Service was cold, and not your typical warm Japanese hospitality. Given the. Umber of sushi restaurants in the area I highly suggest going elsewhere.

Frauke E.

Yelp
All of it. Friendly, great food and ambience. I did not care too much about the desert. The quality of the ice cream was not the best.
google avatar

Bren T.

Yelp
Amazing! Everything is so fresh! Service is great! Sashimi is so good. I forgot to take a picture of the yellow tail belly sashimi, but that is super good too! Highly recommend coming here and if you have a larger party, make sure you make reservations!
google avatar

Andrew K.

Yelp
Sushi Sen is amazing! Stumbled upon this place on Yelp and saw the high ratings. The noodles didn't disappoint. Finally found a place that serves cold noodles outside of Hawaii and it quite possibly beat the cold noodles from there. Love the combos they have and hoping to make my way back there again to try the sushi next time. Everything that came out of the kitchen looked absolutely amazing!
google avatar

Austin L.

Yelp
This cute, little, authentic Japanese restaurant is a regular in our dining rotation. We visit at least twice a month craving a taste of Japan. My go-to is the bento box with a crispy pork katsu, negi-toro don (tuna rice bowl), and salmon sashimi. The combination of the savory, juicy katsu with the fresh fish and seasoned rice serves a perfect balance that hits the spot. The staff is very hard-working and attentive even during busy hours. It is clear that proper manners and etiquette are highly valued at Sushi Sen!
google avatar

Lauren T.

Yelp
Very cute indoor seating area and sushi bar! The ambiance is a bit quiet but nice. We had the miso soup, dragon roll, ebi Kani roll, and the chicken yakisoba. Our food came out very fast which was surprising since all of the tables were full. The miso soup was good - it didn't have tofu in it which I loved! The yakisoba was average - it had more cabbage and onion in it than meat and noodles. Both sushi rolls tasted fresh. A little pricey but they have happy hour during the week.
google avatar

Tracy P.

Yelp
THIS PLACE IS SO GOOD!! I have heard many times how amazing this restaurant is and how the sushi is very fresh! I was not disappointed at all!! They have amazing HH deals which makes it even better! HH is 4:30pm-5:45pm Monday through Saturday. On the menu they have deals for nigiri, rolls, sashimi, appetizers, and drinks. The salmon nigiri and salmon sashimi were my favorite!! The thickness of the cuts and you can taste the freshness of the salmon. LOVE the salmon so much here. Yellowtail was okay. Escolar was a new one for me to try and it was super good!! Salmon Kama was shareable. The rolls were really good too!! We got an Okonomi Chirashi, where you select 5 different types of sashimi, then a base which could be sushi rice, brown rice, or greens, and then a side which could be miso soup, edamame, or cucumber salad. The ramen was really good too!! Black garlic ramen was strong with garlic so for garlic lovers you will love this. Spicy ramen was good, but definitely spicy. Chashu Donburi had an amazing sauce with the rice!! Really enjoyed this dish! There are so many options here and I cannot wait to try my favorites again and all the items that are on the menu! I would definitely recommend this place! You will love it too!
google avatar

Shelbie P.

Yelp
We really loved this sushi spot. It was in a great location and the restaurant had great ambiance. Our service was great and the sushi was delicious and fresh!
google avatar

Yelp
I love the food the best Ramen I've found anywhere in Scottsdale or Phoenix good service good atmosphere reasonable prices. I just wish it was closer to my home.
google avatar

Andrew L.

Yelp
One of the best sushi restaurants in Arizona. It's an amazing place to go eat during happy hour as some dishes are on discount before 6pm. You can order just about anything from the menu and leave satisfied. The portions are generous as well. I definitely recommend getting nigiri over the sashimi. The nigiri is just larger in portion and costs the same amount. If you're getting sashimi or nigiri, definitely try the escolar! The tonkatsu ramen is also very flavorful. The broth & noodles are a perfect combo. Salmon Kama is tender and cooked well. It is still juicy! Chashu Don Buri was a surprising favorite as well. The rice complimented the dish so well. Baked Alaskan is great, especially for those who can't handle raw fish. It's a California roll with baked salmon on top.
google avatar

Caleb V.

Yelp
Absolutely amazing. The price/quality ratio is incredible. If you get here before 5:45 you get all of these options for $5 rolls, and they are all so fresh and so good. Definitely recommend!!!

Yelp
You had me at Sushi! Drop in and go! Looking for a sweet spot for lunch. This little Sushi Sen is the den you want. It could be just what you are seeking today. How did I come upon this place? It sits right off Scottsdale Road beside a cupcake spot. It's a unique blend of Japanese style cuisine. It sits across the street from Mc Cormick Stillman Railroad Park. Who's up for sushi and a quiet walk though the park while you recharge for the rest of the afternoon days tasks ahead! The establishment is very quiet and cozy. The afternoon sun stays behind as you enter the restaurant. Immediately, you are seated and brought some water. These are nice touches since it's always warm outside. The menu is extremely easy to order from. They offer excellent prices and many choices for all budgets. They have many different lunch options at varied pricing depending on your time of visit. Whatever your eating options they will accommodate your needs. Are you a vegetarian? Do you want raw? Just ask for clarity on the menu options and they will be provided. The quality of the food is exceptional. Again, for this being Scottsdale, the pricing is way below average for other Sushi restaurants in the area. The staff is here to make your visit happy all the time. They went above and beyond what I could of ever expected. The cleanliness of the establishment is excellent too. What's not to love? Their menu has an array of options. Are you up for ramen? Raw sushi plates? How about an avocado roll? Whatever your choices they can be met here. With a beautiful park across the park this is a healthy option for lunch after burning a few calories. Have some sushi and after dinner sake cheers for the best of days to come.

Yelp
Did I miss something here... always looking for new sushi places to try. My friend and I were driving by and I spotted the sign. Friday at 12:30, lunch hour we walked in, clearly a popular place and clearly understaffed as there were plies of dirty dished left on tables and the sushi bar. 2 women working the floor, seating, clearing, order taking and serving. We waited and waited to be seated as we watched the 4 tables empty with dirty dishes not be cleared. Finally 2 spaces opend up at the sushi bar. We were ready to order again another wait, we went ahead and used a take out menu to write down our order. Again flagging one of the servers to take our order. We ordered Yellow tail, Eel, Masago, and Salmon Nigiri along with a spicy tuna roll. The food came out fast, no presentation on the plate. The quality of the fish was OK. Masago tasted a bit fishy. Yellow tail and salmon had no taste and the Spicy tuna roll was small with gobbed on mash tuna, which again tasty fishy. The eel was not broiled with the eel sauce and was not sliced correctly (so thick and cold) Sorry, was not impressed with the restaurant aappearance, nor food and definitly not service.

Yelp
Food is amazing ! The place is small and cozy! Great place for a date! Service is amazing as well!

Yelp
Came for happy hour which only runs from 4:30-5:45pm. The prices are such a good deal for the quality as portion! The place is small so it can get filled up quick. Came right at 4:45 and beat the crowd on a Tuesday. Parking: located in a plaza with plenty of parking spots Food: I can't believe how cheap the prices are for happy hour! You can get a full plate of rolls for just $5! We also ordered a chirashi bowl which wasn't on the Happy Hour menu but it was amazing! Love how they had a huge variety of fish/seafood and the sushi rice was just the perfect amount of flavor. Customer service: The service was also great! Employees were really sweet and although they did get busy, they always helped with getting us refilled on water or taking our plates away.

Miriam J.

Yelp
We went there for lunch--outstanding food and service. We can't wait to go there for dinner.
google avatar

Aaron L.

Yelp
Heard about the $5 happy hour rolls, and they did not disappoint. Stylistically simple but classy with black and wood Japanese aesthetic. Service was super fast. Just mark your order on the sheet with a pencil, and food is out in a few minutes. The fish on the rolls is high quality. I ordered four rolls and left feeling satisfied. Would definitely come back again!

Steohanie J.

Yelp
We were so delighted by our experience here. The service was great, very friend,y and attentive. The sushi was fresh and excellent along with the tuna and yellow fin rolls. Looking forward to returning soon.

Yelp
Decent establishment with a huge menu set with various combinations which frankly for me was really confusing. There were signs outside with specials on bento etc but then that is supposedly the tempura + combination in the lunch menu. Tried that with nigiri sushi. The disappointment was in the quality and freshness of the chef chosen nigiri sushi. Seems like it was chosen based on what was going rancid lets get that fed during the specials. At least they had the wasabi on the sushi (rice) set up correct. The rice had gotten cold and was a tad hard and thus the sliver of fish came undone from the nigiri for each of the choices. Extra star for mom-pop otherwise probably a 2 star due to the rancid nigiri
