Sushiro the Handroll bar

Man oh man, cannot say enough good things about this place. 10 out of 10 tastiness. I chanced to walk by one day hungry for dinner and they were able to accommodate me as a walk-in. Got the premium set (5 handrolls) and the chef delivered. Fast, delicious, with an excellent temperature differential: warm rice, cold fresh fish, bright flavors, crispy seaweed. And I was lucky enough to get a free otoro on the house, so so good. Maybe my new favorite sushi place in the city!

Got the five-roll Classic meal, and while it is a tad expensive (almost $50), it felt like a midday treat and the sushi was so fresh and tasty. One of the fresher spots in the city for sure. They don’t have a lunch menu though, which would have me coming way more often. Zen-like atmosphere too and tasty miso soup with what looked like homemade tofu. Would come back again with a friend. 5 stars

If you’re reading this just reserve and table and go. Don’t think. Went there for my 5 year wedding anniversary for lunch and it’s easily one of the best restaurants in NYC. Quality of the fish is Michelin star and the menu has everything you need without feeling overwhelmed. Super accessible hand rolls. Nothing too adventurous with many comfort options like spicy salmon etc. they made my wife and I feel very special and it’s one of those places that looks and tastes high end but makes you feel very relaxed. Service was pleasant and the overall ambience is super pleasant. Price is super reasonable, at this quality you expect omakase to be $120 per person but at $50! Unreal. Couldn’t have been nicer. Coming back with all my friends. They need to try this.

Everything about this place is just perfect. My wife and I went here for dinner on our anniversary. The restaurant itself is beautiful and thoughtfully designed and decorated, and every dish we were served was outstanding. I particularly liked the toro, wagyu, and eel/foie gras nigiri, but there wasn't a single bite I didn't enjoy. To top it all off the staff were incredibly warm, friendly, and attentive. We would highly recommend to anyone!

Amazing food and service, perfect date night or girls hangout! Our server was so nice, and the ambience is perfect. Handrolls have lots of fish and great visual presentation.

I have no words for how good this place is… each and every hand roll was literally incredible and the appetizers were just as good too! The scallop carpaccio in ponzu with tobiko was one of the best carpaccios i’ve ever had! My favorite hand rolls were the scallop with tobiko, salmon avocado, eel with foi gras and the monk fish liver hand roll! I’ve never had a monk fish liver hand roll and now I need one everyday!!!! The chefs here are anlso incredible and so talented and nice. The toro was super fresh too and the snow crab was out of this world. This place is a MUST GO and I hope everyone goes asap!!!!! I can’t wait to come back♥️♥️

Hands down the BEST sushi hand rolls I have ever tasted in my entire life of eating sushi. The place is very neatly put, smells good, and is very clean. The hosts and waitresses were super friendly and efficient. The chef I had was super friendly, funny and knowledgeable about letting me know what I was eating. I chose the premium option and my partner chose I believe the Sushiro omakase. We started off with miso soup and seaweed salad which were so good! I highly recommend getting sake and beer to pair with the sushi. Enjoy!!! You won't regret it ☺️

Got the "premium" 5 roll set. Salmon, toro, kampachi, scallop, and snow crab. Added on a foie gras eel one at the end. They gave us a complimentary spicy salmon roll at the end. I like that they stuff the rolls with fish! Fast and casual. Get seated at the bar so you don't need to wrap the rolls yourself. It's always much better at the sushi bar where they serve you one roll at a time.

Very nice chill vibes. Great service. Everything was extremely fresh. The sets come with apps. We tried the miso soup and the hijiki with our sets. We also ordered the sonomono (sashimi) on top of our orders; the fish was very fresh and the sauce it came with was a little sweet and salty with a hint of truffle, loved this. We all got the classic set and again the fish was very fresh and the flavors and textures were well curated. Some handroll spots don't dress their fish well but here everything had good flavor. A touch pricier than some hand roll spots but a great casual spot for fresh seafood.

A solid 4 for the food and 5 for the service!! Heard about this place from social media and glad I got to try it out!! There are 2 sets you can pick from as well as a range of al la carte options. I got the classic which featured shrimp, tuna, yellow tail, salmon, and scallop rolls. I loved how they kept the seaweed fresh by wrapping it. You take the plastic off right before you eat it and they also demonstrate when they first serve your food. The fish to seasoned rice to seaweed ratio was great! Can't decide if I liked the yellow tail with the yuzu flavors or the tuna with the garlic flavors more. The scallop was good but wasn't as impressive as I had thought. The sets come with either a side of seaweed salad, miso soup, or edamame. The store is intended with some table seating and bar seating. I was running super late but they were still able to accommodate my party. At the end they gave us complimentary mochis (matcha and strawberry) which was a nice way to end the meal. Also got their house sake carafe was also solid, and it comes either cold or hot. Prices were reasonable for the food quality and location!

Delicious! Wandered in here a few Sundays ago solo and the food did not disappoint. I'll be back! The roll presentation was beautiful compared to other hand roll bars I've visited. The by the glass wine selection needs to be expanded a bit though.

Got the classic set that came with an appetizer that you got to choose - either hijiki seaweed salad, miso soup, or edamame. We also ordered the scallop carpaccio and a Dassai 45. The food tasted fresh with my favorite being the kampachi handroll. I thought the yuzu pepper was a great addition to the handroll! We also got the unagi foie gras as an addition and I'm not usually a fan of foie gras, but thought it added the right amount of smokiness. This is definitely my new fave handroll spot!

I enjoyed my meal at Sushiro! I got the premium handroll set and the fish is high quality, tastes fresh. The pairings are more on the traditional, classic side, so it didn't overpower the fish quality. The only thing to mention is that the amount of wasabi was not consistent across each roll. Some rolls had wayy too much wasabi and some didnt have much, but I would still prefer not to have a mouthful of wasabi in a roll. The servers are attentive and the location is conveniently located in West Village. I would recommend!

Came here for a weeknight dinner and we had a reservation. The space isn't super big, a really nice sushi bar area and a couple tables so I definitely recommend getting a res. The decor and interior are beautiful. The service was also really attentive. Our waters were refilled consistently and our waitress explained how to eat our hand rolls as well. We each got the classic set with 5 hand rolls and comes with an appetizer which you can choose between miso soup, seaweed tofu salad, or edamame. We all opted for the seaweed tofu salad and it was refreshing and a nice change from the usual miso soup or edamame I usually get at most restaurants. The classic set comes with yellowtail, scallop, tuna, salmon, and shrimp. These hand rolls are beautiful and very well packed, not skimpy on filling. They were all delicious and this has become my new favorite hand roll spot!

Best handroll place we've been to thus far in NYC! We opted to try the premium set, which includes an app. And then we added on the scallop carpaccio and a couple more handrolls at the end - eel foie gras and kampachi. Everything was super yummy and flavorful. Rice was nicely cooked and they give a lot of fish on each roll. I think the value is definitely worth it! Service was super friendly. We were greeted right as we entered and attended to well throughout our time there. The restaurant has table and bar seating. We opted for the tables. Clean a decor throughout the restaurant. The restroom was also clean. Highly recommend this place!!!

Absolutely love this place. The aesthetics are beautiful and so calming. I came here as a walk in solo for lunch on a very cold day. I was happy to order a hot green tea and some hand rolls at the bar. Everything tasted wonderful, fresh, and you know it tastes really good when it melts in your mouth. I wish I could have ordered more but I was already full. The prices are very affordable. The staff is super kind across the board very very nice and professional. I'm excited to come back. I really like this place

I'm a big fan of hand rolls, so I was excited to try this restaurant. The atmosphere is cozy, and the staff is friendly and quick to attend to you. Since I wasn't very hungry, I opted for the a la carte rolls and tried the eel foie gras, king salmon, and snow crab hand rolls. They were all fresh and delicious, and I enjoyed every bite. The portions were much larger than at other places that serve hand rolls. I'll definitely return to try more of their offerings.

The service was wonderful & the sushi was soooooo good! I actually can't wait to go back. The presentation was beautiful but it also tasted soooo good!

I've been eyeing Sushiro for a while so when it came to deciding what to eat for GNO, hell yeah you know I booked it for my fav gals! Reach opted for the Premium because it looked solid. Not gonna lie, it was so hard choosing a fav - I legit told my girls "This one is my fav" to every piece that came out! And don't be fooled - it's enough pieces to fulfill you & if you want more, you can always order a la carte. Service was top notch! The chef was explained all the pieces & he was so sweet! And the owner was entertaining and so kind as well. We loved everything from beginning to end. Thank you so much for such a fun night!

I have a new obsession and hyper fixation on handrolls and this spot continues to drive it. There are sets to choose from and then others you can order a la carte - everything is served neatly and you just know it's fresh. They have other appetizers and menu items as well and I believe an omakase option too! Service was friendly and they also accommodated my request for something celebratory as I took one of my best friends here for her birthday! The place is clean and well-lit and I'm already planning my next trip back here.

Really love this place, have been twice. Once with my family and once with my friends and the food quality is top tier. It's a little pricey but really enjoyed everything. It's a small space and gets very crowded, so be sure to get a res! The drinks selection is also very good and they recommend great pairings!

Handroll place we made a reservation for on a Friday. They also have omakase and people started filling in toward the end (~7 pm) so I'd make a reservation! Classic hand roll set ($42) - shrimp, salmon, tuna, scallop, kampachi - no misses and they were all really good! Pretty good for the value as well where you get the 5 + your choice of an appetizer. We came on a Saturday around 6 pm. We did not have a reservation but they were able to seat us. The place is small; there were tables and also bar seating. My two friends and I ordered the premium hand rolls ($50 per set). Each set comes with 5 hand rolls. My favorite piece was the kampachi since it was flavorful (yuzu pepper). I thought I was going to enjoy the snow crab the most but it was a little bland. The rice was cold, I wish the rice was a little warm. The portions are small. We were hungry still so we had dessert after. Although it was a good place to try, I don't think I would come back.

Friday 5:15pm walk in- Walked in without reservations for a table for 1 and got seated at the counter right away. Service is good and they work fast but not rushing you out fast. It's a relaxed atmosphere. I did the premium hand rolls and added an extra kampachi at the end because it was reallly good. For $48 to have a nice quick meal, it was worth it. I'd definitely be back for the kamachi. Out of all the handroll in the premium, my least favorite would have to be the snow crab. It was good but after having all the raw fishes it didn't hit the spot. But none the less everyhting was fresh and delicious.

Came here twice already and had such a great experience! First time I came here I sat by the windows and got the Classic Set. The second time, I got The Premium set and definitely loved it. They give you LOTS of ginger on the side! Out of everything, I love the kampachi the most as it had the perfect amount of yuzu flavor on it. I would order 5 of those honestly.. What I love the most about the hand rolls here is that they give so much toppings and the nori wrapper is still in its wrappings so they don't get soggy while you eat each one of them. I got recommended a sparkling sake to pair with them and I'm usually not a fan of sake but it was so light and refreshing, so I would also recommend it! Awesome staff, especially Steven and Dan for making my experience here great. Would come back and recommend to friends!!

my partner and I stopped by Sushiro for a quick lunch! we were amazed at the sheer size of the handrolls, and the freshness of the fish was also noteworthy. I really enjoyed the hamachi handroll and almost ordered another, but these handrolls were genuinely 2x the size of your typical handroll. service was impeccable, friendly, and prompt. it's a small space but is clean and full of natural light. we would come back if we're ever in the area again!

Saw this place on Instagram so decided to try. All the 5 handrolls were absolutely delicious. My fav was a tie between the salmon and the crab. 100% worth the hype and cleanly presented. My server was hella weird, rushy - felt so uncomfortable every interaction with her. Manager came to apologize for sushi taking 30 mins to arrive at the table and even offered some saki or beer on the house - very very kind. Total came to 45$ without tip which was pretty reasonable. Kazu is cheaper though so I would still give Kazu the edge... Would recommend!

Pretty high quality handrolls, like it better than Kazunori! Great and well-paced service and ambiance, loved sitting at the sushi bar and the chefs were very nice! I opted to make my own set of 5 handrolls and the chef was nice to include the hijiki appetizer (which typically comes with the handroll sets) with my order! My favorites were the king salmon (so buttery and fresh), the eel (very soft and decadent, without being heavy), and the sablefish (very soft). The kampachi had a nice citrusy flavor to it, but to be honest, the toro was not my favorite (not the most fresh), so if you had to not get one premium option, no need to get the toro. Other things to note: the rice was delish! Perfect texture with the ideal amount of vinegar taste.

I was introduced to handrolls a few years ago and I've never been the same since. Kazunori used to be my go-to handroll spot whenever I find myself in NYC, which is several times a year. But I might have just found my new go-to spot in Sushiro. The restaurant is quite small so I would recommend reservations whenever possible. We still had a bit of a wait even though we had one. We got to sit right in front of the chefs and it was a pleasure seeing them do their thing. The handrolls were nothing short of fantastic. I would say Kazunori is for the purists, but Sushiro is for those looking for just a little more. The rolls are heartier, and a bit more complex with more ingredients used. I went for the omakase and let the chef pick and it was a wonderful experience. I will say that it is on the pricier side, as tip is not included, which I'm accustomed to with most handroll spots. I'm counting down the day until I can make my return.

Sushiro is a new handroll bar in the West Village with delicious and fresh handrolls in a beautiful modern space! I checked for a same-day reservation on a Thursday through OpenTable and they were all full, but when I called they had space at their tables so maybe just double check. My friend and I ordered one each of The Classic (tuna, kampachi, salmon, scallop, shrimp) and The Premium (scallop, kampachi, toro, salmon, snow crab) sets which came with a little seaweed salad appetizer (which they initially forgot to bring but quickly brought over when asked). The rolls themselves are beautiful and delicious with a good fish to rice ratio. The rice is not super warm which is different from other handroll places. I loved how the nori stays crispy with plastic wrappers. My favorite roll was the scallop which really highlighted the sweetness of the scallops with a zing from the wasabi. Delicious! Would definitely consider coming back to sit at the counter.

Solid 5/5 handroll bar! Came here with a friend, she got the regular and I got the premium set. I thought the rice to fish ratio was perfection and the fish was so fresh! Also enjoyed the decor and seating - We sat by the window and got to people watch. Will definitely come back!

We sat at the counter and it's always fun to watch them make the rolls right in front of you. Their rolls are thick with a lot of meat and a lot of flavor. They ask you if you want soy sauce and wasabi and the rolls do not need any extra outside of what they prepare. Our entire party went with the premium set with miso soup plus a side of edamame. Everything was great. As a hand roll lover, will definitely be back.

The set came with an appetizer which was the hijiki salad. The handrolls are beautiful, and the seaweed was wrapped for each to ensure it did not get soggy prior to eating. I think the salad was ok, but the handrolls were pretty good; there was a good ratio of fish to rice.

Reservation for 2, and we were seated promptly at the bar. We both ordered the classic set. They gave me the option to switch my appetizer to miso soup!-- accidentally gave me seaweed salad, but they let me keep it and just brought out the soup as well. The atmosphere was calm and great for date nights or just the vibes. All the handrolls were so fresh! I loved the fresh sauces and lemon on some of them, as well as the hit of the wasabi (you can ask for it without wasabi if you want). It was cool seeing the chef make all the dishes as we sat at the bar. I thought I'd leave still hungry, but don't underestimate 5 hand rolls! Definitely would come back if I were given the chance!

Thought the omakase meal was solid but there were multiple hiccups that happened which made the experience less than desirable for us to return. We reserved sushi bar seating and were told they didn't have anything available and sat us at a table instead. We were asked about our allergies or preferences and specifically requested no wasabi for one of the omakase but that preference wasn't accommodated. We shared with our server who rectified it but caused us to wait for my flight of fish to be remade. Since the restaurant is still fairly new, there are staff in training but the more senior servers seem to think it's fine to jokingly say "sorry she's new, still training, should be fired haha" when the new staff member plated incorrectly. And they clearly don't like being compared to nearby temaki/handroll restaurants in the neighborhood as my group mentioned it once to each other and our server overheard and kept saying why they are "incomparable" or "better" which made me uncomfortable. Interestingly enough, those competitor restaurants never got wasabi or seating preferences wrong.

5/5 for the food but minus one star because the waitress fat shamed me twice. But you know what? If you're going to be fat, order too much food and eat too fast (the waitress's words, not mine), this is the place to do it. This tiny hand roll spot is so unassuming that I walked right by it when I was first trying to figure out where it was. There's a small sushi counter and maybe 8-10 tables max, which immediately made sense since it was so hard to get a reservation here at the time we wanted (even at lunch time on a weekday). The menu mostly features hand rolls with the option to opt for a set or choose your own adventure. I decided on the classic set which came with a refreshing seaweed appetizer (that I ate too fast per my waitress, who tried to bring me a second dish of it after we'd already finished the ones brought over by another server), and added the sushiro hand roll as an add on (oh wow! You must be hungry!) As a regular sized human being I had no trouble finishing all six hand rolls and the appetizer. I loved everything included in the classic set and appreciated at how different each of them were. As others have mentioned, the fish to rice ratio is generous and does not disappoint. The crown jewel was the sushiro hand roll - toro and uni topped with two different types of fish eggs. I will most definitely be back here with my thick skin to down these all again sometime soon.

Very good high quality fish, I had a tuna hard rice which was beautiful. The service was impeccable as they are in front of you and always ready to help. The whole place was a very comforting japanese type home feel.

Came here after work for a dinner with friends. Walking in was not sure what to get and ultimately decided on getting the omakase hand roll set which was the best decision. It came with appetizers which was a seaweed salad and sashimi (which was so tender). We sat on the bar counter and the chefs and head chefs were so nice. We had a lot of interactions with them and all were so friendly. The restaurant is kind of small but very cozy place for a dinner with friends.

I took a friend here to celebrate her birthday, and we made a reservation at the bar. Initially, we were excited to order 8-10 hand rolls each, but the waitress convinced us to go with the omakase hand roll set, which included everything we wanted. I'm glad we did! The fish was incredibly fresh, and each hand roll was served one at a time, allowing us to savor each bite. After my fifth piece, I asked the chef for less rice, as I was starting to feel full. The meal also included a delicious seaweed appetizer and small cubes of sashimi, both of which were excellent. I'm still reminiscing about the eel with foie gras and the scallop--they were truly standout dishes. We paired our meal with two bottles of sake. However, I have to knock off a star due to the service. We felt rushed to leave, even though we would have loved to order another bottle of sake. One of the waiters kept trying to upsell an expensive bottle of sake, which was frustrating. Our total for the evening came to $450 after gratuity, which isn't bad for such a lovely meal, but I wish they had allowed us to linger a bit longer, I would've definitely ordered another bottle.

This establishment was nothing short of a portal back to Japan. My best friend and I (who I just travelled to Japan with) came here for the lunch special and it was fantastic: 3 handrolls and an appetizer for $21 (make sure you ask the waiter, we found the deal online and it wasn't on the menu). We ended up adding on one more handroll each. The staff is very kind and the atmosphere is quite peaceful. Highly recommend sitting at the bar for service straight from the chef's hands to your plate.

We sat at the bar counter rather than the tables which was cool since we could watch the sushi chefs prepare it in front of us. They are pretty generous with the seafood portion here. I actually felt full by the end and the sushi was very fresh. I also liked the fish to rice ratio, it wasn't just a bunch of rice like it is at other places. Would definitely come back again!

Definitely like the interior, it was clean and had great decor/vibes. Not too loud and good place for conversations here! The service was also good, they were pretty attentive. I enjoyed all the rolls and was so full after this 6 roll set.

Was able to get a last minute reservation here. Chefs choice omakase was okay, pretty standard. They did have a black cod course that was excellent. Their sashimi appetizer didn't come together well - kinda just like large chunks of salmon. Some of the fish wasn't as fresh as I would have hoped. I think people are getting more excited about the handrolls - that seems to be their strength, at least more so than their traditional omakase.

The service here was really great, everyone was very attentive and super helpful. The atmosphere matched the service, inside was very welcoming and very peaceful. A little expensive but the hand-rolls were good. The shrimp hand-roll definitely surprised me, it was very simple but very fresh and definitely one of my favorites. The tuna was a favorite as well.

Was able to grab a last minute reservation for lunch right when it opened at 1pm. The interior decor is minimalistic and simple. I ordered the Premium set along with a carafe of Ozeki Classic. The set comes with an appetizer (hijiki salad) and 5 handrolls (kampachi, snow crab, salmon, scallop & toro). It was a great deal for the price given everything tasted fresh and clean. My favorite was the scallop handroll. It did have a wasabi kick at the end which I confirmed with the chef that the wasabi is mixed with horseradish which was a bit disappointing. But overall, it was a great experience and would love to be back to try their omakase.

My friend and I made a reservation for 6pm on a weekday. The restaurant was empty when I arrived, but it filled up later in the evening. The ambiance was calm and simple. We sat at the counter which was very large and the service was very attentive. They have a la carte, set options, and the omakase. Both my friend and I opted for the omakase. We did ask though and they said that your party can do different options if you prefer (e.g. one person does omakase and another does a la carte). Since the counter was very wide, we couldn't see what the chef was doing, but he would tell us what each item was. The meal was well paced and we did not feel rushed. The omakase consisted of appetizers, nigiris, hand rolls, and dessert. The portion sizes were generous and everything tasted fresh. I thoroughly enjoyed everything we ate and I will definitely be returning!

This new trend of loaded hand rolls has taken over NYC, so I was so excited to try Sushiro. Excellent service too- we were out in 45 minutes. Their basic hand roll selection is a great deal and all the rolls are tasty in their own way; they have toppings and sauces in addition to rice and fish. My favorite were the salmon (felt like butter!) and the wagyu one. The quality of everything was also amazing. I wish they could open one in California!

I hesitate to write this, as I am sure this place will soon be impossible to get into! This is a GEM of a neighborhood restaurant. The Food is AMAZING. The style is casual with attentive and friendly service. The prices make this one the best value sushi restaurants we know. Calling this a handroll place is a bit misleading. While they do offer 'by the piece' sushi, most people opt for the Standard or Premium fixed menu offerings ( either is a bargain at $42 or $48). The 'rolls' are served in a U shaped piece of seaweed, each crafted to provide both a wonderful flavor and texture! The staff here works incredibly hard to make you feel welcome and wanting to return. I hope their ever-increasing success does not change anything about this Gem of a place.
