Swedish Hill Bakery & Cafe - Review - Bouldin - Austin - The Infatuation

"If you’ve been in Austin for any amount of time, you probably know the Swedish Hill name. They’re home to excellent baked goods, salads, and generally brunch-y items, with a few locations around town. This particular one is on South 1st St. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - Nicolai McCrary

Stopped in the check out the bakery, we had just eaten so will have to return to try the food because it looked really good. Beautiful place with a good vibe. I received friendly , quick and attentive service. The bakery items are delicious! Parking can be difficult because of the busy area but they do have parking behind the restaurant.

They got a really cute place here. It has running water at the entrance, really relaxing. I had their fruit salad, it does have little hints of mint in there which I didn't expect. Their seasonal muffin, (blueberry today) was delicious. And their croissant is so flakey and buttery, I have never had anything like that!! It was cold next to the window, because that's where the vents are, so I sat outside, but they got fans outside, it was a great experience.

The food and service are always excellent and consistent. I had the best sandwich ever. Made even better by the best server ever Ken who was super accommodating and kind. If you go, hope that you get Ken because he was awesome.

Their newest Austin location is lovely - modern decor, beautiful garden and fun atmosphere. Their shared space with Heath ceramics makes it a fun spot to visit. Staff was friendly and accommodating. Areas for improvement: - check-out line: although there is one checkout line, there are multiple “check out” points but difficult to navigate/cross through due to tightness of the line. Also, staff was not clear in communicating when they were open. -food quality: pastries were tasty but quality was mediocre. The everything croissant was not flaky nor layered and rather doughy. Also, the amount of cream cheese inside the croissant was minimal. Bagels were fine but the eggs were the highlight. Perfectly cooked! - family bathrooms: they’re clean; however, there is no changing table. We unfortunately had to change our little one on the ground (thank goodness we had a pad to use)

Best location yet! Spacious and a nice place to sit down inside or outside to eat brunch or lunch. Food is super fresh and healthy for the most part. Their baked goods are a great bite as well along a coffee or tea.

Google
very cute cafe spot that serves drinks, pasteries, and food. it is very popular so expect a bit of a wait. go early to make sure what you want is available, when i went they were out of bagels and chocolate croissants. i got the matcha latte which was pretty good and the hand pie which was definitely yummy!!

Wish there were a star for value. It’s good, but $5 cookie is what I’m used to in Midtown NYC, not Austin. Nice space though, more or less the original design of the previous ‘Foxtrot’ remains intact.

This place is a window to Europe :) Delicious pastry (I’m a home baker and can tell for sure - their laminated pastries are top notch!). The salad bar offers a variety of healthy options and the dressings are very good too. The sourdough bread is just what it’s supposed to be - full of flavor and aroma, yet not overly tangy or acidic. The service is great-nice, friendly and helpful even on busy weekend mornings. My only complain is that there are so many flies over there… Other than that - I’ll be returning there to try out other food too. Thank you!

Yelp
Dog friendly - yes Indoor and outdoor seating Parking - yes but busy Order inside, lots of fresh options of savory and sweet Coffee was good and strong, not watered down Service was friendly Egg salad sandwich was good! Fresh, not over eggy or mayo, stuffed and good balance. You can choose the bagel it's on. Banana cream pie tasted fresh as well, flavor of banana came through and not too sweet. Will def come back! Only thing is there are lots of flies outside so they need those fly fans at each outdoor table. Decor was comfy yet elegant.

Yelp
I used to frequent the Clarksville location often and I was very excited when they opened a location close to us, although I was sad when Fox Trot closed. I have visited this location at least 10 times since they have opened! The service is always great and the food is good, although I wish they would add a dish or change up a fresh Sala or side dish, but I suspect when fall rolls around, things will change. The thing I miss about the Clarksville location is that they have a freezer with cookie dough and other frozen treats that the location on S.1st does not offer. I have noticed that they include a take out fee and for that reason, I either do not tip or it is significantly less. I have never been charged to takeout my own food! It is not as if you dine in, that you are waited on, so what is the difference? I love getting the caesar salad and adding the chicken salad on top. It is so good. I am also obsessed with the whipped jalapeño cream. The rotini pasta is good, the desserts are all lovely and we love the rotisserie chicken dinner special! The chimichurri sauce is divine. I will say, that when placing an order to go, CHECK EVERYTHING before you leave and I mean, open up the boxes. Twice I have left and my croutons for my salad were missing or the chicmichurri sauce for our rotisserie dinner was missing. I had to send my husband back and although we live around the corner, it was still inconvenient. Thankfully, when I called to inform them of the mistake, they presented my husband with complimentary cookies to make up for it, so all was forgiven!

Yelp
OVERVIEW: 3.5-4/5 - I've visited this new location 2x now and have had decent experiences. Where they shine is their pastries/bakery items - both times I've enjoyed a pastry and would definitely revisit for that! The rest is good but nothing to write home about. Coffee and drinks are your average Austin coffee shop lattes, lemonades, etc. Service is casual - order at the counter and pay and they'll bring out your items once you find a table. QUICK FACTS: - Parking? There's a lot behind the restaurant and street parking around the area. If you go during peak hours it may be tricky to find a spot. - Reservations? Not needed. - Outdoor and indoor seating available! FOOD/DRINK RATINGS: - Swedish iced coffee (3/5): The first time I had this, it was phenomenal. The coconut cream flavor really elevated it, and it was made well. The second visit, it tasted like a flavorless latte. Super milky, no sweetness, no trace of coconut flavor whatsoever. I asked for the coconut cream/foam to be added and they told me there wasn't any foam and didn't offer to fix it, so I asked for simple syrup instead. Inconsistent. - Seasonal Danish (5/5): So good. Flaky and buttery and fresh fruit flavor. Love this one! - Quiche (3/5): $14 for a slice and some greens. Not the best quiche I've had. Super oily and mushy. I probably won't order it again.

Yelp
Met a friend for Sunday morning coffee and pastries at this new location of Swedish Hill bakery. It was certainly a popular place, but the line went quickly and there was lots of seating both inside and outside. The space is bright and open, my almond milk latte was creamy, and The chocolate croissant my friend had was huge, buttery, with a healthy serving of chocolate. I'll definitely be back!

Yelp
Swedish Hill South First is a brunch/bakery spot near downtown Austin selling brunch items such as avocado toast and breakfast sandwiches, as well as baked goods such as almond croissants and chocolate chip sea salt cookies. With indoor and outdoor seating, it is a perfect stop to grab a bite while getting some work done. There's a small parking lot in the back of the building, which is also helpful in the busy area.

Yelp
Amazing service, they accidentally messed up our order and were so gracious and kind in their recovery. The team working was excellent- Loved everything we ate and the coffee was so delicious! Great vibes and ambiance - we will for sure be back!

Yelp
So stoked to have a Swedish Hill close by! Super cute inside and the patio area is really cute too, as long as it isn't a million degrees outside. The ham and Gruyère croissant was out of this world and my coffee was delish. I can't wait to come back to work from here! Friendly staff, too!

Yelp
Giving you 5 stars because I don't like rating local businesses who are trying to making a profit poor ratings but please for the love of god get the flies in your store under control They're crawlling all over the pastries and breads that you're selling and putting those propellors is not the solution. The solution is to put air curtains above all of your doors to keep flies out, and inside of your shop, putting fly zappers around the premesis to attract and kill whatever is inside.

Yelp
I was so excited when I heard they were opening a new Swedish on south first. I think this is their best location honestly. Amazing menu, great to grab a bite with friends or work remotely and get a coffee

Yelp
First of all, I have been a follower of S.H. bakery for over 30 years! this was my first trip to th S.1 location and it is impressive! Really great ambiance and many choices for seating. I have to say i was disappointed to not be able to get a cup of coffee at 4:00 in the afternoon because it was too close to closing! At 7pm!!!! Wow! Then was told the soft serve was out. They eeked out a melted small serving and told me no strawberries! I settled on something after two more tries and just asked what they had. The soft serve was 90% melted by then! The girls at the counter were rolling eyes and giggling. Not customer service!!! I hope there will be training and improvement with afternoon staff! I know they can do better!

Yelp
Renee, the manager, went over and beyond to make our experience a pleasant one!!! Our delivery order got messed up - so since we live in the neighborhood we hopped over and he had our correct order waiting for us when we got there!! For our troubles he threw in 2 delicious macaroons (pistachio and s'mores)! He was so nice and awesome and I LOVE SWEDISH HILL
