"COVID-19 Update: Open for pickup and delivery. Prettily decorated cakes and baked goods are mainstays here, though we hear the best thing on the menu is actually the tuna fish sandwich. They make their own mayo, and serve it on freshly baked rosemary bread. There are also Sweet Lady Jane bakeries in Santa Monica and Encino. If you know, you know—Sweet Lady Jane never misses! 🍰 I recently had their cake, and it was absolute perfection. Moist, rich, and layered with just the right amount of sweetness. Every bite felt indulgent but not overwhelming. You can tell everything is made with high-quality ingredients and so much care. Whether it’s their iconic Triple Berry or a classic chocolate, it’s always a hit. Honestly, it’s one of those cakes that makes any occasion feel extra special! Highly recommend if you’re looking to treat yourself (or someone you love) to something unforgettable. 💕🎂

One of my favorite places to shop for pastries & enjoy a delicious slice of cake. The manager here, Karina, is very attentive & provides an exceptional customer service to clients. If you are new here, ask for her and she’ll be more than delighted to assist you with choosing the right cake/ pastry. Huge shoutout to Karina for keeping the spirits of Sweet Lady Jane alive!

Amazing spot for coffee and their Curried Chicken salad is amazing ✨ Staff is so sweet too

Google
Top notch service and food, I'm impressed. I got the Spinach, Sun-dried tomato, goat cheese omelette with Challah toast and added applewood bacon. French press coffee was good, although I prefer my coffee on the stronger side. The place is on the smaller side, but it's great atmosphere and decor is nice. Really great if you want to sit down and talk. Shared a curried chicken sandwich and asked for the bread to be toasted, which was really good and flavorful.

Google
Was great before but now they changed the design of the cakes to very basic. The taste is still good thank god but place is so not appealing not sure why they haven’t remodeled or updated over all these years. The prices have gone way up to what it is. I have been a customer for 15 years but I think I’ll stop . There’s a guy there name Aaron I think his name is he’s amazing that’s about it

Google
Really heavy on the frosting and the cake itself doesn't have much flavor. Tried the carrot cake - was more like a Christmas pudding. Also tried the vanilla cream cake super thick frosting layers that make the cake too moist. Service was really great unfortunately prices were a bit steep

Google
They had some gluten free options so I could take the flourless chocolate cake which was amazing . My niece tried the Carmel brownie bite and liked it too. Sadly my mom couldn’t have anything because there was nothing vegan there .

Google
My absolute favorite cake ever. Triple berry cake- so good. They give thick slices too which I love.

Yelp
Aww, heartbroken to learn that all the Sweet Lady Janes have closed down. Such precious memories with that Triple Berry Cake during a special era in my life. Wish they would have given us some advance notice, so that we could have enjoyed it just one last time! Thanks for the fond memories, Sweet Lady Jane!

Esther B.

Yelp
I have ordered from SLJ many many times. The last time I ordered was a $350 cake with my own design. Not only did they get the color deeper than I wanted, which I can excuse but the cake was dry. I messaged the manager about it and never got a response back. I guess once they take your money, they don't care about the rest. Never ordering again.

Yelp
I have to say I appreciate the whole fruit in the triple berry cake. It makes for a very fresh tasting cake. However, I do wish it was just a bit sweeter. The lemon and rasberry tart cake was okay. The coffee tho was good! The place is super cute!

Yelp
If you have not tried their cake and cookies, you are absolutely missing out. Great costumer service Place is clean and tidy Street parking available

Yelp
After 30 years, decided to get nostalgic and order the very first cake I ever ate here. The Carrot Cake. All in, this place will not disappoint. The best part of this cake is that the icing is not super sweet. What was once a standout in the LA confectionery scene, has now become a staple for Angelenos. Will enjoy this place for its sweet offerings and legacy as long as I possibly can.

Matthew B.

Yelp
Got the carrot cake through doordash---very small portion---very luckluster taste--not worth it---and I thought they would be incredible

Yelp
This place is an oldie but a goodie. My ultimate favorite cake in the entire universe is here at Sweet Lady Jane's. The Triple Berry Shortcake here is incomparable to any other cake. It is a heavenly fluff of softness with a medley of these three gentle berries that is interwoven between each layer. This is the cake that you envision taking a bite of when you want to be in a perfectly delectable moment that helps to seize time for just that moment. Where happiness blissfully surrounds you and there is no sadness for miles away. A must try indeed.

Yelp
I used to live not too far from here. I'd come once a week before Jane transferred this business to a new owner. I loved their Triple berry cake so much that I got it every time when I'm here. So this is a first time visiting after the pandemic. They still have many of the same cakes...but I was disappointed to see they had no beautiful flower decorated cupcakes like the old days.. those were my second favorite. I decided to get a Halloween cookie, a slice of Triple berry cake and carrot cake. Triple Berry Cake was super yummy as it used to be! Still light ( for here) and not super sweet...balanced with tart berries....which were in good amount. The carrot cake was a little bit too sweet for us! This was my husband's fav from the old days. He was disappointed that it mostly had buttercream frosting. We both prefer cream cheese frosting for carrot cake. There is some inside the cake though. It's all just very sweet. Not bad...just too much for us. The cookie was good and it was cute. If I come to this area, I will stop by for a piece of triple berry cake again and again for sure.

Yelp
So sad this amazing bakery had closed, abruptly on 12/31/2023. I will forever miss the iconic triple berry cake!

Yelp
I never thought I would rate two stars for anything chocolate. Granted the chocolate itself was dark and decadent, everything else fell short. Should have read some of the reviews before I went berserk and bought most of their pastries. All the brownies I bit into were crumbly, old and dried out. The lemon bar could have some more lemon to up the tartness and balance out the cloying sweetness. The raspberry walnut rugelach and blueberry scone were the only two that were less sweet than the rest. The dark chocolate cake slice was 75% frosting. I had but two bites of the cake part and was not wowed. They don't have restrooms and there's a sign indicating as much. Mostly street parking that charges $2 straight up when you use a card. The third star is for the nice European gentleman (sorry I don't want to say Scot or Irishman, I'm not good with accents) who was genuinely nice as compared to the other two who had pinched LA expressions and underlying exasperation. Located on the better part of Melrose Avenue, I accompanied my sister here and got some of their offerings as listed: Oatmeal Date bars- $4 Sea salt caramel brownie bites- $3.25 Chocolate Cinnamon Rugelach- $3.5 Lemon Bar- $4 Chocolate-covered macaroon- $5.25 Macaroon- $4 Sea salt brownie- $4 Raspberry walnut rugelach- $3.5 Dark chocolate walnut brownie- $4.5 Dark chocolate cake slice- $10.5 Blueberry scone- price not listed. Wouldn't drive through the traffic prone 101 and WeHo surface streets again for this.

Yelp
Grabbing some Triple Berry cake! These cakes are a work of art and so delicious!! You can never go wrong picking anything off their menu. The creamy fillings and icing that melts in your mouth. The sponginess of the cake as you cut through with your fork. It's heaven!!
google avatar

Becktoria B.

Yelp
I really do love their desserts! My usual picks are blueberry pie, mixed berry pie, sea salt brownies, mixed berry chocolate cake and the banana pudding jar. I do wish though that they would bring back the original larger sized jar for the pudding, now it's like half the size of the original for the same price. But, hands down, one of my favourite dessert spots in LA.

Yelp
Heard through the grapevine that they closed all their CA locations as of December 31st. Can't believe it. If known earlier would have gotten one more slice of my favorite cake.

Yelp
I am so saddened to hear about your closure of your bakery. I am really gonna miss your wonderful cakes......Thank you for all the WONDERFUL YEARS ......

Yelp
I don't understand what all the fuss is about. I'd been hearing so much hype about the triple berry cake, and it looks so beautiful in everyone's photos. So I finally tried it and here's my verdict: The frosting was great: very light, smooth texture and not too sweet. The berries were nice as well. But the cake itself was dry. To me, the most important quality of a cake is moistness, so I have to give this one a thumbs-down. And $9 for one slice of cake is kind of insane, even if it's a biggish one. As pretty as this cake is, I would rather have a SusieCakes cake that is less fancy but always moist.
google avatar

Angela J.

Yelp
I don't usually do reviews but I just had the worst cupcake of my life at Sweet lady Jane. At $5.50. It was small, it had hard slippery icing that reminded me of Crisco shortening and the actual cake which was supposed to be birthday sprinkles Tasted like nothing. The flavor was generic and could've passed for any flavor. I can't imagine the owners of sweet lady Jane, thinking that this is a good cupcake. I can only guess they are so far removed from their products that they're not paying attention anymore. Ralphs, grocery stores has better cupcakes. I regret the purchase and the calories.

Yelp
Super tasty cakes. Friendly service. Couldn't sit, we were late. We were around 5 pm. Closing time.

Yelp
I came here with a friend so she can try the cakes. Though most of them come here to buy and leave right away, we decided to stay and eat them since there was nowhere to really sit down to enjoy it. We got the Triple Berry and Dark Chocolate slices along with Iced Latte for my friend. I had their Triple Berry Cake years ago and I remember it being good. It was super moist and the cream was not overly sweet. I just tried to avoid the cream and berries as much as possible because I am allergic to blueberries now, sigh. All in all, my friend is from Korea and she enjoyed it too. We were too full to try the Dark Chocolate so I let her take it so she can enjoy at her hotel room later. Make sure you have your CDC Vaccination Card and/or digital record of it if you wish to eat inside the store. Guys helping us out were superb and friendly. I just wish they had longer hours so I can come after work. Oh its on Melrose so parking situation isnt the best so good luck!

Yelp
It might be a sign of how "Hollywood" this bakery is, but they don't answer their phone DURING business hours. It always rings until the voice message which the voice message states the business hours and such but no information on what to do when you call during said business hours. I wanted to place an order and it's been a few days of calling. You're better off dealing with a business that answers their phone & is actually actively helpful to customers instead of relying on past history to hold up the business.

Yelp
It's been a few years but I gotta say this place was AMAZING when I tried it. I was the Exec Sous Chef at Mastro's in Beverly Hills and they would deliver cakes to our restaurant for people who were celebrating and they never sent anything I wouldn't proudly serve. Understand I made many of the desserts at Mastro's so it was pretty unheard of to do this. Parking can be a challenge. The shop is small but enchanting!! And I swear you will LOVE everything they offer...at least back then there wasn't anything I wouldn't pig out on! Check Sweet Lady Jane out. I highly recommend it.
google avatar

Yelp
For years this light and lovely cake has dazzled.....well it continues to delight! Waves of whipped cream do the tango with a bounty of berries. This location is next to a dispensary, so shop this street in the correct order. The lemon bars are still puckeringly pungent!

Yelp
I've been loving this place for sooo long and finally getting around to leaving a review! There are some seating areas outside but indoor seating was still closed when I went. Even though we went during brunch time on a Sunday there were a couple spots left to sit! Their lunch menu sandwiches were pretty good but I really really miss their table service brunch menu of the ages past,,, their goat cheese omelette was to die for!! Definitely get the triple berry cake slice when you come here, the cake is soooooo perfectly balanced between the sweetness of the cream, fresh tartness of the fruit, and the vanilla cake base. It's easy for me to get a little sick of creamy cakes but not this one, and it's a huge slice too. I also love the chocolate version and their tiramisu! The banana pudding in a jar was also super good with a really strong banana flavor and creamy pudding. I also recommend their croissants ((: An absolute must if you're in the area!!!!
google avatar

Amani S.

Yelp
My aunt brought this cake one time for us, best fruits and flavor and moist cake ever! It is on the pricey end of cakes, but everytime i am never met with disappointment. There is a lot of icing around the cake, I could personally do with less, but that is just a preference. I bought one for my boyfriends mom birthday and she loved it! Can't wait to go back and try all the other flavors
google avatar

Cindy K.

Yelp
Cakes from Sweet Lady Jane are all the rave in LA. Tbh I don't get the hype that much. I recently ordered a Triple Berry Cake for my mom's birthday - it was 9" in diameter and cost $80. Pros: - tall cake in size - pipe work and detail of the frosting is great - custom frosting writing doesn't cost extra - staff are nice - cake itself is light Cons: - costs a lot, overpriced in my opinion - frosting is quite dense, heavy, and a lot - doesn't leave you feeling good after eating - no parking for the building, street parking is a pain to find in downtown - small storefront Overall their cakes are decent, but I don't think I would pay this much for these cakes in the future.
google avatar

Connie L.

Yelp
I was so excited to try their triple berry cake after seeing it on Instagram. I ordered a 8 in. for my boyfriend's birthday and the bread was dry. So disappointing! I read a few reviews claiming the bread in the cake was dry but I still wanted to try it hoping it wasn't true now because those reviews were at least 5 months ago. Honestly if the cake wasn't pricey I wouldn't care. But I paid $58, it was not worth it. Please do not waste your money and the drive to West Hollywood for a dry ass cake. In the photos, you could see that the bread is so crumbly because it was dry.. it's almost like a hard cookie. If the cake was moist, it would have been delicious because their frosting was light. Sadly, never returning to try their other items.

Yelp
They used to open earlier, but now it is 10-4 so as someone who is 9-5, I can no longer grab a box of pastries for the meetings before work and cannot swing by after work because they are already closed. What's your target demographic? "Cookie's" customers? Also, ordered Oreo Tiramisu cake for my daughter's bday a year back or so, at first they said they don't make it anymore, then they said they will make it and it wound up costing close to $100. Fine. Well, when we served it at the party - there was barely any sugar in the cake. Just loads of barely sweet mascarpone. At this point, I was over them. And yes, as someone previously mentioned, their customer service/interaction is not their strongest suit at all. Uninterested, unenthusiastic, at times abrasive staff.
google avatar

Heidi P.

Yelp
I was so disappointed when I called to order my 50th bday cake to discover that they don't make changes for allergies. The cakes come as they are, no customization or exceptions. All I needed was one ingredient removed. (Not replaced or substituted, just remove that one fruit) And they couldn't do it. So I had to order from another bakery.
google avatar

Caroline M.

Yelp
The most incredible bakery. Their cake, brownies, and everything is the best in LA. I've tried all bakeries in West Hollywood and Beverly Hill - you must go here. Jack the manager is very kind and knows producers the next customer service. Must go here for any sweet treat!
google avatar

Betty W.

Yelp
I heard great things about the triple berry so I stopped by for a slice. It's great in that the size is very generous and it's cloyingly sweet. But the cake was on the drier side for me.
google avatar

Belen R.

Yelp
Amazing, decadent chocolate ganache cake. A bit pricy. $80 for the 8" but I guess that's about normal these days. Ordered online and was ready on time as expected. No issues with pick up.
google avatar

Javier J.

Yelp
The look and silence given to you by the staff as you walk in is the most unwelcoming feeling I've gotten in any bakery. They look at you like 'what are you doing here'. The cake is overrated and over priced. Total garbage all around.
google avatar

buta b.

Yelp
I haven't had this cake for 20 years and it was still good as I remember it! I ordered a cake online and picked it up for my kids birthday. I wish they had one closer to where I live.

Yelp
This is hands down my favorite cake place in Los Angeles. One of my favorites I've ever had. Found out about them in the mid 90's when I worked for a large film studio and the President would order cakes from here. The three berry cake. It was so amazing. Fresh berries, not some processed jam or compote. Fresh whipped cream instead of frosting. A masterpiece. Since then this is where we get almost all our birthday cakes - unless we may have an ice cream cake on a given year - and even took a cake to New York to have a famous baker copy the cake to make our pagoda-shaped wedding cake. I've tried slices of many of their other cakes and some pastries over the years, and have always been happy with the lightness and flavors of the cake. They're sweet but not overly sweet. The balance is perfect. I can't imagine why this isn't just a solid 5 star reviewed place. They make great cakes, are accommodating, and have always been friendly with me. If I had to list two negatives, I would just tell you know that they are pricier than most places. Then again, you get what you pay for. Also, and this is nothing they can control, parking is horrible in the original location on Melrose. Last time we went it was a super nightmare because a dispensary or something like that had opened next door, so of course there was pot smoke all over the block and all spaces were filled with people going to score. That was a drag, man. I noticed recently that they have new locations in Santa Monica and somewhere in the San Fernando Valley. Might have better parking there. Also, they have a three berry cheesecake I just noticed. That's what I'm asking for this birthday! We already had the original triple berry for the missus' birthday. Just go! Do it!
google avatar

Melissa K.

Yelp
By far, my favorite bakery in the LA area. I first came here a few years ago and got a croissant and a chocolate chip cookie both were great. I had ordered a carrot cake for my birthday and it was amazing! This year I decided to get a cake from here after missing out last year due to covid. The cake was perfect, the berries were so fresh and it wasn't too overpowering with sweetness. The staff are helpful and super friendly. I will definitely be back for another cake! Thank you so much!
google avatar

Jonny C.

Yelp
We were recommended through friends to Sweet Lady Jane and were quite frankly disappointed. Feeling unwelcome upon arrival to the shop we were requesting quotes on wedding cake information left waiting for around 10 minutes. The owner then sat with us, seeming uninterested and proposing a very limited selection of ideas. As we suggested ideas and designs as simple as shaped sugar diamonds the response was a flat no due to the fact they didn't have the equipment to do so. The decision to end things there felt very mutual and we left with no intention to return again.
google avatar

Brandi S.

Yelp
Not the friendliest staff I've ever encountered. The triple berry cake here was pretty good but as other reviews have stated, the cake itself is fairly dry. The Bread Basket in Camarillo makes a better version.
google avatar

Ian B.

Yelp
Best bakery love this place ! Great service yummy everything ! Each location has the best assortment of cakes , pastries , cookies. Each year I buy a few cakes - the chocolate old fashioned is insane and delicious. The people that work at each location are very service oriented and care about what they are doing! The name says everything '"SWEET"!

David S.

Yelp
Ruined Wedding Reception!! There is not a low enough rating for the terrible experience we had with Sweet Lady Jane. We ordered a wedding cake and paid for a delivery of the cake. There was confusion between the staff on the order. We paid $150 for a special delivery on the day of the wedding AND THE CAKE WAS NEVER DELIVERED. Nobody followed up. We could not get in touch with anyone and there was nobody there that really seemed to care. What a horrible company to deal with.
google avatar

Nicole E.

Yelp
We've only been there for the happy hour. The food was very tasty, bartenders were friendly, and prices were reasonable for the happy hour menu. Looking forward to trying the dining room.

Sean M.

Yelp
I had expected this place to be trendier than it was. Two stars for a clean bathroom.

Yelp
I ordered a quarter sheet Triple Berry cake that is to die for and they gave me a cupcake and a slice of the triple berry cake on the house. their staff is absolutely amazing
google avatar

Natalia J.

Yelp
Worth every penny. The fruit and cream cake is the only one i've tried and i see no reason to try anything else. This is the perfect cake. It's sweet enough for chocolate lovers and packs in so many different textures. Smoothness of the cream but such moist almost wet cake that makes it easy to eat like three slices. The berries are wonderfully interspersed in the creamy layers and makes this a gorgeous and delicious birthday cake. Run, don't walk to SLJ.

Yelp
This is my 4th time here. I travel far and wide to come here each time! My favorite and must try is the triple berry cake. It's so good. Yesterday I tried the Almond crunch chocolate cake, it's super rich. If you like chocolate, try this one. I also had an Americano, very delicious and fresh. My mom had a raspberry rugelach. It was so good but on the hard side. I must note that I got a triple berry to go. I had ordered 3 weeks in advance for Christmas. My cake was ready to go. Service is always great, last night due to the holidays it was a bit lacking but definitely understandable. They handle rude customers (which there were some) very professionally. I love Sweet Lady Jane, I wish there was one closer to me in the Inland Empire. Be prepared to OVER pay though. It's a nice after dinner treat. However, the servings slice wise are large, for your information lol. Overall, it is worth the drive and worth trying.

Yelp
This is my favorite bakery! The staff is super friendly! Yay! Ellen Degeneres! Their lemon bars are signature!

Yelp
Honestly over priced and overly sweet. We use to be big fans for years but they've been in a steady decline. We use to even joke SLJ was my husband's mistress bc of how often he'd go to and refer their cakes, finding any excuse to order from them. Cakes... They use to have a lot of interesting cake flavors but they have scaled back their operations so much it's now boring. All you're really getting is some minor variation of chocolate or yellow cake. And what you're getting for the price isn't great. Triple berry is the best and is really carrying them. Even that, I feel like the cake crumbles so much so when you cut it, it falls apart (this wasn't an issue back in the day). The choco/triple berry is meh. The berry cheese cake is meh. Their carrot was ok. Imo you can find better cakes elsewhere for that price, if not cheaper. We use to always order their "almond roca" cake bc my hubs loved it, but that's discontinued. Their hummingbird cake was good but they discontinued that too. Their German chocolate was good but also discontinued. The coconut was good (though it had the same crumble issue), but they've discontinued it. Red velvet was ok, they still have that, but it's not a fave flavor in my circle so we have tried that in a loooong time. Pies not that great, crust too thick. Tarts are pretty good. They discontinued the blueberry one, but the pear almond one they have is pretty good. They use to have and Oreo trifle that was a fave in my group but they discontinued that. The tiramisu is ok (honestly not sure if they have that anymore either). We only go for the triple berry now, and only if its specifically requested. The last time we ordered it they lost our resv but luckily they had one we were able to take, and that too crumbled apart when cut (and no, we are not horrible cake cutters and it wasn't hot/melted).

Rick R.

Yelp
Always comes through with the best cake. Triple berry and triple berry chocolate for the win. German chocolate is a bit too intense for me. Croissants are decent. Cookies are delicious. Great counter service. Parking can be tough

Yelp
My first post pandemic visit to the Montana Ave, location and had arranged to meet friends for brunch on Saturday as they had fond memories of when Paul was the opening GM and the delicious lunches and sandwiches. Should have realized something was up as we were the only guests there. Very disappointed to find out all lunch and brunch options have gone and only cake and pastries are available. My friend used to work next door and had craved the grilled cheese. Seems such a waste of real estate with so many outside tables which had always been full at lunch and weekend brunch time. Now that Yelp no longer has a separate listing for the Montana store, I suppose that with more locations now SLJ has a more Starbucks corporate mentality of operating and no longer builds on the uniqueness of each neighborhood and the former established brunch and lunch busy offerings! Shame I recall the press when SLJ first opened on Montana and one reporter said "didn't know what Montana was missing until SLJ arrived!" I wonder if anything is actually baked on site or if everything is trucked in as we witnessed later in our visit. Not all changes are good ...also no longer accepts cash!!!

Yelp
Excellent 3 layer berry cake. Must try. Wish they would open a store near Pasadena so driving doesn't to be far to buy one.
