The Fancy Convenience Store Trend Is Spreading | Eater

"A boutique grocery created by the salad chain at its original Georgetown location, positioned as a “full-time indoor farmers market” carrying locally made items like pickles, kombucha, honey, frozen yogurt, produce and some ingredients used in the restaurants (local cheeses, tahini). The shop functions as a way to work with small suppliers who can’t scale for full restaurant distribution, serves as a pickup point for online orders, and intentionally does not offer beer, wine or the chain’s prepared salads despite its name." - Whitney Filloon

Food is good. Healthy. Tasty too. You can make your own rice bowls here. The food is locally sourced, clean, green and environmentally friendly stuff. That’s all great. I would recommend this chain. Only issue is it’s damn expensive. I mean a normal person can’t afford this daily. My Whole point about this place is, a chain which cares about society should be affordable too.

I had an unpleasant experience at Sweetgreen today because of one of the staff members, Cam. He was rude and unfriendly throughout the interaction, with an irritated, almost poker-faced expression that made me feel like I was bothering him just by being there. What was even more concerning was that he was visibly sweating — a lot. The sweat was literally dripping from his face, and considering how close he leaned over the food containers, it felt extremely unhygienic. I was genuinely worried that some of it could end up in the food. This isn’t just about poor customer service — it’s also a health concern. I hope management addresses both the staff’s attitude and the store’s air conditioning situation. It’s unacceptable for employees to be working in such conditions, and it’s uncomfortable and unsanitary for customers too.

Google
First time diner at Sweetgreen really enjoyed some clean eating ,had the guacamole green. Delicious and great fast efficient service. Nice to see the calorie count on the menu. Really useful so thank you.

Google
Fresh. Plenty of indoor/outdoor seating. Solid Sweetgreens location.

Google
I have been a long time fan if this place. Food is always good and fresh but how can a restaurant lock their bathrooms and put a sign that it is out of service. How can it be okay for employees to ise but not customers. They might as well change the sign to “sorry we don’t want to clean restrooms therefore it is out of order”. They had no explanation as why it is closed. So inconvenience to their customers!

Google
Excellent salads. Their homemade Minty Peach Fresca drink was amazing. We had the Summer Corn Bowl and the Green Goddess Avocado Salad. All was delicious! Can't wait to come back.

Google
My elderly dad who is in a wheelchair needed somewhere to get out of the cold weather and charge his wheelchair. The guys here was super nice and accommodating. Aside from their accommodating my dad, the food was incredible.

Google
Salad restaurant, steak didn't taste good at all, very small portion..

Yelp
I love this place. I used to go all of the time in CA but moved to UT and there aren't any there. I was stoked to see them back in my home-home town of DC while visiting. The Harvest Bowl is my go-to. It's fast, healthy, and reasonably priced.

Yelp
Went for my first time ever after hearing praise from a friend. Got my salad and found a big bug in it. After letting the worker, javi, know about the incident, he acted surprised and never once apologized. I then asked for a refund for which he hesitated to do so. All i needed was reassurance that they will wash their produce better instead i got attitude and a gift card.

Yelp
$66.00 dollars for 3 salads? since when ? i remember a few years ago when you could get a decent salad with local ingredients for around $12.00-$13.00 bucks at sweetgreen... the food was not that great. i felt like i was just eating to eat, not really for enjoyment or taste. aside from the food, place was clean and spacious.

Yelp
Great team of servers! After being disappointed for months in the deteriorating service at sweetgreen in Foggy Bottom, I was really pleasantly surprised to discover that the Georgetown location is faster and the servers are so much more thoughtful. Great experience! Highly recommend!!

Yelp
Cute spot in the corner with an upstairs indoor seating which is where we sat for lunch. I was going to try the summer bbq salad they had but ended up making my own salad bowl. My friend got the crispy rice bowl. My salad was delicous! I got greens and rice with sweet potatoes, beets, broccoli, premium tomatoes, watermelon, and blackened chicken. I tried the pesto dressing with it which was recommended by the worker. It was a good lunch for a rainy day in D.C.

Yelp
After a bike ride on the c&o we picked this spot out of convenience. I had the blackened chicken salad swapping out kale for romaine. The food was good...... coulda used more chicken especially coming in at almost $14.00 but I did have a beverage. The location is good right off M street and easily accessible for the c&o and the cct. The staff was polite enough and the bathrooms were clean. If you are looking for a no guilt spot to eat this is a option.

Yelp
Delicious over priced salad. Only one working bathroom which there was a long line for. I was satisfied and it was filling but might find a cheaper option next time.

Christopher W.

Yelp
The barbecued salmon plate was awful! The small piece of salmon was overcooked beyond belief and tasted like cardboard. The plate was overwhelmed by a watery wild rice mixture. The barbecue sauce was overly sweet. What a waste of calories!

Yelp
you can't go wrong with sweetgreen. it's quick, easy, healthy, and has a blend of fresh, tasty ingredients. a good portion of chicken in each bowl, and pretty customizable too.

Yelp
When I'm in Georgetown and want something fast and healthy to eat, I always stop by this Sweetgreen. Usually the staff at this location are pretty friendly, which is always a plus. Even though there are only around 5 tables on the ground level, there's extra seating upstairs! Honestly, you can't go wrong with Sweetgreen any time of the day! I love that it's an easy option to eat something fresh and healthy. You can choose one of the many salad creations that Sweetgreen has on their menu, or you can customize and create the salad of your dreams! My ultimate favorite is the Guacamole Greens which has chicken, AVOCADO (yum!), tomatoes, and tortilla strips. I get it with a medium portioned dressing, and it's so good. During this particular visit, I tried one of their seasonal salads, the Buffalo Chicken Bowl which was so tasty! Next time if I go for this salad, I'll ask if I can swap the blackened chicken thighs for their regular roasted chicken.

Yelp
I feel like this location really exemplifies what sweetgreen stands for & creates a really good customer experience - from the food to the location to the people: *it's one of the largest I've been to! *there's a large chalkboard at the front of the line that lists out the ingredients & where they're sourced from - this is core to sweetgreen's ethos but I don't recall seeing this at the other sweetgreen location I went to in the DMV *The staff was incredibly efficient, yet still friendly! ISSAVIBE, Y'ALL! But, I guess it makes sense since Sweetgreen did their start in Georgetown after all! I went with the Spicy Thai (roasted sesame tofu, raw corn, cucumbers, shredded cabbage, basil, cilantro, spicy sunflower seeds, organic arugula, chopped romaine, lime squeeze, spicy cashew dressing). This one replaced one of the OG salads (Rad Thai). So tasty and refreshing. It also just fit my macros a bit better. My only complaint is that I went to sit upstairs and it was incredibly stuffy and hot! Seems like there may be AC issues up there? No wonder everyone was stuffed downstairs! 214/365

Yelp
SO SO SO GOOD HIGHLY RECOMMEND... food is so fresh and amazing and the staff was super nice and great location best dressing ever

Yelp
This DC sweetgreen did not disappoint! I got the harvest salad with burrata cheese and it was delicious! Blackened chicken thigh with walnuts and tomatoes--amazing! I really wish we had this in Seattle because it's honestly amazing.

Yelp
Great option for fresh, healthy eats! Stopped in while shopping in the Georgetown area on a Saturday afternoon. We were looking for a healthy lunch option to tide us over for the afternoon. I love the atmosphere - bight, modern and sleek! You walk up the counter and order your salad cafeteria style. You can opt for options on the menu or to build your own. They had great options and everything appeared fresh. The staff wasn't overly friendly but they got us our food in a timely manner. I really liked how they ask how much dressing you like because everyone is different! I decided to try the spring salad. It was light, crunchy and hit the spot for me. I wish sweetgreen was closer to home!

Yelp
The salads are tasty, interesting and without a doubt on point if you are not sure if salads are your thing. I recommend salads with kale because they are more filing. The drinks are also great since they have cool combinations.

James G.

Yelp
We're in town from nyc and have gotten pick up orders the past few days. The staff at this location are excellent. They are very helpful, friendly and the salads have been fresh and perfect each and every time. Highly recommend this location

Yelp
You know, if liking a $10 salad is wrong, then I don't want to be right. When I was a junior in college, I snagged an on-campus apartment with a kitchen, which meant I was finally eligible to opt out of the university's meal plan. One of my roommates struggled in the kitchen and often subsisted on oatmeal squares. "How did you feed yourself before this?" I asked. Her answer: the dining hall, Sweetgreen, or her mother. Considering that Sweetgreen was started by a few Georgetown alumni and that it's a stone's throw from the front gates of the university, it plays a substantial role in students' diets as something reasonably healthy that tries to mitigate the side effects of all the cheap flavored vodka and late night quesadillas they consume on weekends. You can customize your own salad, but bear in mind that you're limited to four non-leafy green ingredients. If you choose one of the salads on the menu, you can substitute one of the ingredients for something else of your choice -- my go-to is the Kale Caesar (the parmesan crisp really completes the salad) with apples instead of tomatoes for that added crunch. Since you're forking out the money in an attempt to be healthy, remember that the bulk of a salad's hidden calories come from the dressing. Good thing you can opt for light, medium, or heavy dressing at Sweetgreen!

Yelp
Wow. Try the Buffalo Chicken bowl, it's so damn good. I got the hot sauce on the side and dipped my fork in it before eating. I'm a major fan of pickles veggies so I loved it. blackened chicken, pickled carrots + celery, tomatoes, cilantro, blue cheese, za'atar breadcrumbs, shredded kale, chopped romaine, sweetgreen hot sauce, caesar dressing

Yelp
It's worth the wait for the grand opening. I haven't been to Sweetgreen for years and I just had the crab amd watermelon salad. Really good stuff.
google avatar

Una D.

Yelp
Honestly I wanted to just get this crossed off my list of places to try. I'm not a big fan of paying for salads however this was my exception. I got one of the warm bowls which was the curry chickpea bowl. it was okay there was nothing amazing about it except for the price which I thought was pretty high given the ingredients but I won't qubble about such things.I'm glad I tried it and crossed off my list but I doubt I would come back here. There is no parking in the area and it's very hard to come by unless you're here on a Sunday so it's better to take a cab or lift

Yelp
I was visiting from RI and staying at the Kimpton Glover Park. I happened upon SweetGreen while out for a walk. It was refreshingly delicious. I had the Harvest Bowl and made a few modifications: I got the blackened chicken. I added avocado. It was delicious and filling. I ate there for a couple of days after.

Yelp
Maybe I came on a bad day, but ingredients were all out of whack. I ordered a Guacamole Greens salad, and the avocados were all very brown and looked old. The dressings all needed to be refilled. And in general, the food didn't look well prepped. That said, the staff was super nice a remade my salad with better food the second time around.

Yelp
Sweetgreen is one of my absolute favorite fast casual restaurants in the dc area - and this location in particular is just super. If you're not familiar, sweetgreen sources its salad ingredients from a lot of local and/or organic farms, so everything tastes super fresh. They have extremely creative and satisfying salad selections; even when I'm craving pizza and burgers, and I force myself to eat healthy instead, I end up leaving here completely full and happy!! Seriously, everything is so so delicious. My favorites have to be the summer seasonal burrata and peach salad, the classic guacamole greens, and the spicy Thai. They also serve delicious housemade teas and juices. I especially appreciate the service at the Georgetown location. The other day I went in at dinner time and ordered a salad, and a few of the ingredients were still being prepared so I had to wait a few minutes (which was totally understandable) but they comped my salad! I couldn't believe it and it really stood out to me as excellent customer service. I have tried other salad places but nothing has topped sweetgreen for me. I'm a loyal customer for life!

Yelp
Let me tell you, I was hesitant at first to try this place because I thought it was going to be a basic salad place. Well let me tell you, I was wrong. From recommendation from a friend I decided to get a warm bowl that was already assorted. I decided to opt for the chicken pesto because it had all the things that I love- pesto and chicken. Now, the prices are a pretty penny and I probably shouldnt be buying a salad or bowl from them everyday but its a healthy option. The customer service was great. The person preparing my bowl was kind and helpful! The bowel itself was great. Its basically a chipotle for salads and everything healthy. If you havent decided if you want to spend a pretty penny for Sweetgreen, I say go!

Yelp
2017 Review 95/100 Not a shabby stop for a healthy lunch. But at this location, be prepared to wait. Sweetgreen has a variety of options for whatever your salad fancy, from premade to custom. The ingredients are very fresh and, while the salads are a little pricier than you might find elsewhere, you do get a lot for your money - the salads are a substantial size. I did have to wait a good amount of time for my salad and the service wasn't the friendliest, but I would chalk that up to this location. Georgetown itself is quite busy and I did stop in during the lunchtime rush on a weekday so I can't begrudge them too much. Overall, I liked sweetgreen but I would likely just try a different location next time.

Yelp
I am loving the proliferation of fast-casual healthy restaurants. Back home, I am a CoreLife Eatery junky and also a huge fan of Ziingo, which is locally owned but doesn't have eat-in seating. While in DC, I discovered two chains that offer their own interesting takes on the fast-casual healthy premise. I liked Sweetgreen WAY better than Cava, and think if they opened one in Kalamazoo I might have to just live there. Most things in DC were two to three times as expensive as they are back in Kalamazoo, whereas Sweetgreen offered the best meal I had out East for a whopping $11. I had the Harvest Bowl, which featured wild rice, kale, apples, sweet potatoes, roasted chicken, local goat cheese, toasted almonds, and a boatload of balsamic vinaigrette. I'm drooling on myself right now remembering it. The sweet potatoes were perfectly prepared, which is not something you especially expect at a fast casual spot, and all the flavors and textures were amazing together. I feel like the variety of menu items here certainly outpaces Cava and slightly outperforms CoreLife, and while CoreLife has more drink options than Sweetgreen, they haven't yet jumped on that acqua fresca train that's so popular out East, and which is much less calorific than the lemonades on offer at CoreLife. If CoreLife and Sweetgreen got together and had a big salad baby, it would so be my bae!

Yelp
Was hoping to find what their menu advertised but I found nothing. This restaurant is overrated for no factual reasons. Cold whole chicken in a very small size I could not get it how they call this little thing a whole chicken. I thought I would be getting a green avocado salad and a real whole chicken not a thigh and they sell it as a whole chicken. I wonder if every sweet green restaurant is like that one in George Town. Never again.
google avatar

Russell A.

Yelp
Great salad and service but I'm giving this place 1 star in hopes that they read this review and fix a super dangerous problem they have. Upstairs they have fire sprinkler pipes along the wall with open-ended ball valves! The pipes have 50+ psi pressure and the worst part about it is the valve is at a child's hight and points right at their face! Over the next couple years, I guarantee a child will pull the valve and shoot him/herself right in their eye possibly making them blind or killing them. See the picture I took of it. Please management, do something about this before you kill a child.

Yelp
So so good..... Wonderful flavor & freshness!!!! Ordered the Kale/Ceasar Salad!! So so so delicious! My feedback would be friendliness!!! The cashier/clerk wasn't very helpful w/ questions & suggestions.... It was our first time & with it not being very busy, felt as though we were a bother.... On the upside the salad was AWESOME!
google avatar

Yelp
This is a Georgetown classic, sure to be filled with sweaty Soul Cycle fitties or Georgetown students. Unlike the previous Georgetown location, this sweetgreen has plenty of seating and never runs out of ingredients. *Tip* Upstairs seating is quieter and pretty spacious. Food: Once you try sweetgreen, you're either converted into a believer or question your sanity why you just spent so much money for a bowl of leaves. I'm a true fan, but limit my consumption to let my wallet breathe. For a heartier meal, I recommend the Harvest Bowl. The goat cheese, sweet potato and apples complement each other perfectly, and the warm grains and chicken make it perfect for the colder weather. Service: OK. If you go near closing time, the staff will make it clear to you that they want you to leave by loudly banging the salad bowls as they are cleaning up. Overall: One of the nicer sweetgreens to actually sit down and enjoy your salad in.

Yelp
This isn't all Sweetgreens, just this one. It was a Saturday afternoon, there was long line when I arrived, so long that I had time to go to the bathroom and get back in line and still wait a few minutes. There were 3 White women ahead of me who were ordering together. ALL of the staff (4-5 people) who were working the salad or cashier station helped them. Nobody said a word to be for at least 7 minutes. I was at the front of a line of about 20 individuals and the only Black woman in line. It's a cashless store so all you had to do was swipe your card, sign and leave. When someone finally came to help me, he acted as if he didn't want to be bothered. I ordered my salad and he made mine and another person's at the same time. He was pleasant with her. Asked her how her day was going. As my salad was close to being finished, I noticed that there was one person at the cashier register, one helping me and two people helping take orders/make salads at the head of the line like an assembly line. So they CAN work together, I guess when it's a Black woman who needs help, the line breaks down. Albeit, I don't know what I should have expected from a place that doesn't accept cash. Not only are they racist but classist as well.

Jelene D.

Yelp
I'm normally not the type of person to leave reviews like this. And I always enjoyed eating here before. But this is ridiculous. As I was almost finished eating, I came across a VERY big insect in my food. Wasn't able to see it initially because I thought it was a mushroom, but I was sadly mistaken. Definitely not acceptable, and definitely not sanitary.

Lydia G.

Yelp
Classic sweetgreen. Delivers and does just fine. I trust the ladies working here to get me a good salad and quick. I got the elote bowl. Hashtag yum hashtag arugala lover hashtag corn.
google avatar

Amara C.

Yelp
The whole staff, especially Andrew is great! Excellent customer service, and all their house made dressings are so good!
google avatar

Meredith S.

Yelp
The Harvest Bowl Salad is my favorite salad option they offer! I love the fresh and locally sourced ingredients and the fact that I can customize my salad. I've been to several of their locations and had consistently good experiences at all of them. They give you a big portion with plenty of ingredient choices. I know I am getting a healthy meal out of it, but the price is a little on the high side.
google avatar

Victoria V.

Yelp
Not bad if you're looking for a filling salad on the go. I had the fish taco salad and it was over dressed and sort of salty. I was pretty hungry though so I wasn't too up in arms about it.

Rhonte D.

Yelp
The Fish Taco bowl is amazing. Great protein and you can customize the Fish Taco bowl to your preferences. The beverages are amazing. This is my go-too location. The staff are nice
google avatar

Yiwei L.

Yelp
Amazing salad! I tried the guacamole greens, with organic mes clun, avocado, roasted chicken, tomatoes, tortilla chips and fresh lime squeeze. They offered a side bread as well. The lime squeeze definitely gave the salad some extra zing. I also liked the fact that they used fresh avocado in the salad instead of guacamole, not that I didn't enjoy guacamole from time to time. I look forward to checking them out @ Boston.
google avatar

Kel D.

Yelp
I really love sweetgreen and am a regular at this particular location. It's a great place to go on the way home from work or a workout. This location does often run out of important ingredients for some of their more popular bowls/salads (like burrata for the burrata bowl or parmesan crisps for the kale caesar) and usually won't tell you until half the ingredients have been put in the container and its too late to change your mind. Just a heads up!
google avatar

Aly L.

Yelp
Really friendly + helpful staff, nice space, good service. They also patiently explained to me how to use my credit in the app but still kept the line moving so it never got too long. Overall the best experience I've had at a sweetgreen!
google avatar

Vincent H.

Yelp
Ooooook, didn't expect this place to be so good and filling. It's like Chipotle but way better and healthier haha. The special of the day was their elote Mexican corn bowl and it was delightful. Well rounded flavor with fresh ingredients and you're able to choose how much sauce goes into your meal. Only thing I would have chanced would be to opt for the wild rice instead of quinoa but that's just my personal preference.

Shanelle H.

Yelp
I ordered online so I wouldn't waste so much time waiting in line during my lunch break. I went to pick up and walked back to my job (all the way on 28th street), sat at my desk ready to enjoy only to see that my order was complete wrong. The receipt said my name and had all my ingredients written on it but the salad was wrong. I'm a pescatarian (does not eat meat) and the salad had chicken on it and a bunch of other things I did not want. I waisted 30 minutes of my lunch break and walked all the back to sweetgreen. The girl making the online orders clearly knew she messed up by the "Oops" look on her face and she grabbed my correct salad she had sitting in the corner. This was such a waste of my time which I was trying to avoid all together by online ordering. Never again.
google avatar

S G.

Yelp
Friendly staff and normal good sweetgreen experience but minus one star because a loud front door bell goes off every time the door opens (hundreds of times while was eating my salad) ... Very annoying! Minus one star because they took away Sweetflow.

Jane D.

Yelp
I absolutely love Sweetgreen. I make my own with arugula, wild rice, tomatos, apples, corn, sweet potatos, chickpeas, and avocado with lemon and olive oil, one of my go-to places in DC. I have never had a bad experience w Sweetgreen
google avatar

Mike W.

Yelp
Fekn fantastic! Took forever to renovate the old bank into this salad store. The shroomami salad is my favorite. Two days in a row and I still want more.

Mitch M.

Yelp
Great salads. Feeling full after all the heavy meals. On a nice day, eat outside or take down to the Potomac which is a short walk from there. Good healthy food.

Regina A.

Yelp
I absolutely love everything they have that is non-meat. They are willing to allow substitutions which is awesome. I wish there was one closer to my house.

Hannah S.

Yelp
I normally love sweetgreen for a healthy albeit overpriced quick meal, but I went to their new Georgetown location today and found a dead fly in my salad attached to a piece of goat cheese. Day 1, even before their grand opening, and there were health violations? Absolutely absurd. Will not be returning.

Lindsey R.

Yelp
I love this place. Even my boyfriend who never eats salad loves this place. The harvest bowl is by far the best. They have plenty of vegetarian options. Falafel is a little too dry in my opinion but the tofu is excellent. The goat cheese and feta cheese are local. You can even create your own salad. Some items change seasonally. Seriously good salad!
