"Tacolina is the latest tenant of a Silver Lake space with a higher turnover rate than Forever 21 sales associate, but regardless of whatever middling restaurant inhabits this potentially cursed address on Sunset, the tropical patio hidden in the back remains truly spectacular. Tacolina's generic Baja-inspired menu is inoffensive but not worth planning a meal around, so we'd prioritize grabbing a table in the courtyard to drink fruity cocktails surrounded by string lights and enough palm trees to fill a nursery. There’s plenty of space for all the friends you can wrangle, plus mezcal and a bumping reggaeton playlist to keep them entertained." - brant cox, arden shore, sylvio martins, cathy park
"Tacolina has taken over the former De Buena Planta space and its incredible patio tucked in the heart of Silver Lake. Slip through the doorway to be transported to a lush, jungle-like patio that feels like an escape from its city surroundings. The menu is made up of shareable bites like skirt steak tacos, grilled branzino, and taquitos. Sip on a margarita, or a glass of Mexican wine, and search for any visible stars in the sky over Silver Lake." - Rebecca Roland
"Tacolina is the latest tenant of a Silver Lake space with a higher turnover rate than sales associates at Forever 21. Regardless of whatever middling, vaguely Mexican restaurant inhabits this potentially cursed spot on Sunset though (anyone remember Cowboys & Turbans?), the enormous tropical patio hidden in the back remains somewhere we want to spend an evening drinking fruity cocktails under string lights and enough palm trees to fill a nursery. Tacolina's generic Baja-inspired menu is inoffensive but not worth planning a meal around, so we'd prioritize grabbing a table in the courtyard for a few snacks and drinks. "Tacolina and the attached cocktail bar Jaguar Room have brought a piece of the jungle to the former De Buena Planta space in Silver Lake. Coming from the team behind Blue Plate Oysterette and Blue Plate Taco, Tacolina serves a Baja-inspired menu in an outdoor dining space surrounded by plants and trees. Split chips and guacamole and shrimp agauchile alongside cochinita tacos, Santa Barbara red snapper, and chipotle-brined chicken. After dinner, or if just popping by for a drink, head to the Jaguar Room for cocktails made with Mexican-produced spirits like the Hibiscus Breeze with mezcal. On weekend nights, street parking in Silver Lake can get tricky, so allow extra time and carpool." - Rebecca Roland
"When Tacolina opened in the former De Buena Planta space, it inherited one of the city’s best patios. Unfortunately, as with the last few tenants, the huge lush courtyard is the best thing about this Silver Lake Mexican restaurant from the Blue Plate Taco people. Tacolina’s food is inspired by Baja California, though it leans more toward California than Baja, with dishes like chopped salad, teriyaki mushroom tacos, and a seemingly out-of-place corn chowder. Save for the soft corn tortillas and chicken taquitos drizzled in chipotle aioli we’d happily snack with a guava daiquiri on that patio, there’s no need to prioritize a full meal. Bring your friends for cocktails, gather around the hidden fire pit, and pop into the Jaguar Room next door for another drink after a small bite. Food Rundown Taquitos If you’re interested in snacking rather than dining (our preferred way to use this place), these are a must-order. They shatter when you bite in, the chicken filling is juicy, and a lot is happening on top: guacamole, cotija, and chipotle aioli. photo credit: Tucker Kaufman Nachos Nachos usually make us happy, but these are a little sad. The tortilla chips taste stale, and the sharp queso chihuahua sauce is the only thing that provides much flavor. Skip. photo credit: Sylvio Martins Half Mary’s Chicken Not only does this chicken have deep grill marks and smoky charred bits, you can see how juicy it is even on the dark patio. The bird could use a little more salt, but it still works for assembling a nice taco with Tacolina’s great corn tortillas and salsas. photo credit: Tucker Kaufman Red Snapper Tacos We're pretty lukewarm about these fried fish tacos but we like light and puffy their crusts. (That and their tangy chipotle aioli that’s also on the taquitos.) photo credit: Tucker Kaufman Skirt Steak Tacos Similar to the fish tacos, these are just fine. The soft tortilla and juicy steak are overshadowed by the overly sweet marinade on the meat. photo credit: Sylvio Martins" - Sylvio Martins
