"NYC’s popular Mexican chain touched down in the D.C. area in 2021 with beer-battered fish tacos, homemade tortillas, and tequilas. Yelp
I give this place a 5 for the food and dranksssss but I would give a 3 for service and comfortably. Imagine folding lawn chairs at a fold up card table because that's what this place gives. I felt like I should have been playing dominos in Little Havana. So seats are not comfortable if the atmosphere was more upscale or at minimum comfy I'm pretty sure people would actually stay awhile versus eating and dashing but maybe that's the plan. When you first walk in you are given a half sheet to make your selections on the slip of paper for both drinks and food. There were 5 drink options which included a spicy margarita and regular and taco options along with quesadillas but that's it for the menu. It was a Tuesday so taco Tuesday met buy a taco get one free. The tacos were flavorful and refreshing. The drinks were strong and tasty I drank my first one down without blinking. Would return as a drive by but will not seek this place as I can get authentic tacos at other establishments with a much warmer atmosphere.

Yelp
Starting out with the good. Loved all of the sauces/salsas available on the table, especially the darker spicy smoky sauce. Yum. Atmosphere was fun & light and I happened to be there on a lovely day where the doors were opened and it was a great indooor/outdoor vibe. The avocado tostado was hearty & yummy. Easy to eat & great flavors, especially with a little extra house salsa. Definitely recommend it. Onto the not so great, which made me overall unimpressed, unfortunately. The tables were dirty to me & unfortunately this seemed to carry throughout the restaurant and bathrooms. I ordered a carne asada quesadilla and it came open faced & it was missing ingredients. I asked about it and they confirmed it was the quesadilla I ordered, but to me it felt like something I would throw together with leftovers from the week. Snapped a pic and will let you decide. Overall review, I'm sure it's great for drinks and snacks and a relaxed atmosphere, but would not recommend as a lunch spot.

Yelp
The staff was great, and also ambience. However the food was NOT worth the hype. We had been looking at this place for a while, given just beside the Alamo movie hall. We ordered the pork belly and chicken tacos - however both were pretty average. We also ordered the guac toastidas - this was actually great. So do recommend the appetisers but not so much the tacos

Paige I.

Yelp
Sad to report they changed the margarita recipe and it's soooo sweet and thick now. The fish tacos are still the best thing there. The chicken and steak tacos are so basic no onions or cilantro. Little disappointed for the price point. Service is still great.

Yelp
We've been to Mexico city. The tacos here are trash... and overpriced... There are much better taco places around here. I could have given a mid 3 star, but end up 1 star because of the terrible service. So they probably sent 1 of my taco order to the wrong table by mistake, no big deal, just make me a new one. Simple, right? Apparently the manager didn't think so. He made me wait almost 30mins for it, a single order of Al Pastor. Did he think I lied??? My waitress reminded him 3 times of my missing order!!! He just didn't care. Well if he thinks he has enough business already, then he can lose this one. Won't come back ever.

John C.

Yelp
Great street tacos! Highly recommend the pollo yucateco tacos. They had three salsas available at each table. One tomatillo, one classic red salsa, and one that was almost like a barbecue sauce. They were all really good, but I wish that at least one of them would have had more heat. Over a great spot.

Chris S.

Yelp
The tacos here amazing! A bit pricey, but it's worth it if you want a REAL taco, not 10 for$10 at Taco Bell. Make sure to get a Paloma or a Fresh juice- I tried the pineapple and it was 5 stars! The juice is made fresh daily which is a plus! Also make sure you take some chips and guac home. These are the best chips I've ever had at a Mexican restaurant. Can't wait to go back.

Shelby P.

Yelp
Incredible! So authentic to the tacos I get in Texas. The quesadilla was odd that it was open when served but it was good! It was plenty of food for lunch and a good price. Nice decor that seems like a place in California. Really liked it and my friend said the birria was incredible.

Meghan B.

Yelp
Food was meh at best, as was the service. Very overpriced for what you get and won't be back any time soon. Place isn't bad on the inside, but $7 on average per taco isn't worth what you get

James H.

Yelp
Pretty good experience here. It was raining and the Water Park food options aren't covered so I stopped into here. Coming in, a lot of reviews commented on the service but I didn't feel like it was bad. Just order everything on that sheet of paper and things come to your table. The food itself wasn't necessarily visually appealing but the taste was great. I just ordered three tacos and a beer. I did notice happy hour prices aren't really outlined anywhere for whatever reason. Still a solid experience and the place has a cool aesthetic. Worth a try if you want to break away from the food kiosks nearby.

Amir A.

Yelp
There is a lot of parking houses nearby so you are good to go in terms of that. The place has a unique authenticity inside and makes you feel you actually are in a place way south of Arlington. I have had tacos here several times and the scampi and fish tacos are great. Never a miss, always a hit in terms the freshness and the taste. Perfect cooked with that extra crunch. Colorful and tasteful. Service can improve since it sometimes seems to not be well coordinated. Prices are high for food and it is European sizes, so do order more than you would normally do. I would still recommend to check it out

P H.

Yelp
Omfg, man I've been eating tacos for 5 decades and this place fkng rocks. Absolutely one of the best ever. Especially the crispy fish taco, shrimp taco, and Al pastor. Don't miss the chance to eat here, seriously.

Kiyomi Arimitsu T.

Yelp
There is a cute outdoor various food stalls but we decided to cross the street near the Amazon store to see what this bus skin place was all about. It was packed! And we didn't realize till we sat down but it's BOGO tacos on Tuesday! No wonder. Loved the interior design giving sort of a retro feel. Food was great (although the fish taco smelled and tasted in my opinion not good at all...) I think the best was the Al pastor tacos. The birria was a little too cinnamony for me. Don't order the chicken tacos... it was dry and not very flavorful. Great taco Tuesday deal and great vibes

Equana D.

Yelp
The delicious aroma from this restaurant drew me in as I walked by. I also loved the openness and aesthetics of the eatery. I tried the fish taco, shrimp taco, birria, and pineapple agua fresca. The fish taco was my favorite, though the pineapple juice was a bit too sweet for my taste. The service was good, and I spent $31, including tax and tip. I would definitely visit again.

Lynn P.

Yelp
I have visited Tacombi many times as it is close to my office. On my most recent visit, my coworker and I de used to come in for a late lunch during the workday. There were only a few tables with customers, yet the service was lacking. We both ordered esquites, but only one arrived. When I asked for my order as well they claimed I hadn't requested any. I had to ask for my esquites, as well as my drink a few times before finally receiving them. The the pork on the Al Pastor was dry, and the corn in the esquites was tough. The agua de sandia was good as was the Baja crispy fish taco. Overall, it's just ok.

Tony W.

Yelp
Food is good, but this the third time I ordered pick up And it was not ready at the time they said it would be. I know it says approximately but 20 minutes after the approximate time is too much specially when there is no where to park for a quick take out

Romelle M.

Yelp
Waited in line for two hours and didn't get to eat because restaurant had strict closing time which is fine because it was a special event. At the end marketing person got frustrated and started cursing at those of who waited hours in line. Very unprofessional. I was excited to try the food but will not be returning given the way the staff talked to us at the end when we had waited hours and didn't do anything wrong.

Polina K.

Yelp
Oh tacombi... so much potential! Food and deals: 100/10 we come here every Tuesday, you cannot beat this deal. I suggest this place to everyone JUST beware of the service which will leave you guessing whether your server even remembers that you are there. Service 0/10: every time we come we plan a buffer of extra 15 mins for the forgotten food to arrive, for server to get our order, or for someone to pick up the check. If you arrive with low expectations of service you will greatly enjoy this place. The only employee with reasonable response time is the bus girl. Pro tip: place the whole order all at once and ask for the check right away.

Julie D.

Yelp
In search for a quick bite, we decided to try out this spot across from our stay. We got the corn esquites, beef birria, al pastor, and carne asada quesadilla. All very flavorful & tasty! So far the best corn esquites we've tried with the beef birria being our other fave! Very good assortment of sauces provided! Only complaint would be that portion sizes are small relative to price.

Chelsea A.

Yelp
I really wanted to like it here, but unfortunately I most likely will not return. Came here before the dinner rush at around 5:45 with a group of 6 (including myself) We all waited a good amount of time for our food. Each person received their orders, except one. They had the audacity to charge us even though they never ended up bringing it out. Thankfully it was removed from the order. Other than that the tacos were decent. We were planning on a quick eat, but it ended up being almost an hour and a half waiting about 30 minutes for my horchata drink at the end. Not sure how they prepare it, but it definitely was NOT authentic. It tasted watered down with unfiltered Arlington tap. The only redeeming quality was the corn esquites which was filling and flavorful with a nice elote seasoning. If I were to make any suggestions to anyone trying to go here, go as early as possible for happy hour to avoid longer than usual service.

Yelp
Wow, what an amazing review for Taco Tuesday! I was absolutely famished after my site visit and while I was waiting for traffic to subside, Tacombi caught my eye and let me tell you, it did not disappoint! Everything was absolutely phenomenal! My girlfriend and I indulged in the most delicious esquites, guacamole, baja fish taco, el pastor, and to wash it all down, a refreshing margarita...hold the salt, please! The highlight of our meal was definitely the margarita, esquites, and baja fish taco. That fish was so flaky, meaty, and full of flavor, it was truly a culinary masterpiece! The restaurant itself had a charming diner-style seating arrangement, complete with checkered floors and unique seating options. The vibe was very cool and laid-back, and our waiter was absolutely awesome and cute to boot! If only we had more time, we would have ordered even more delicious food and continued to drink the night away. They even offer happy hour specials, quesadillas, and other traditional dishes at a very reasonable price. And ladies, every table has a sturdy coat rack for your convenience! You can't beat the combination of cheap and tasty eats that you'll find here. So what are you waiting for? Go and enjoy!

Kris D.

Yelp
Great spot for tacos! Super fast and filling. I had the avocado tostada (delicious!!), Baja fish taco (crispy and well seasoned) and the sweet potato black bean taco (really good but not WOW!). Love the house made corn tortillas and the array of hot sauces on the table. Monopolia IPA was pretty good...I'd never had it before. I tried the piña aguas frescas and it was like pure pineapple juice. So good. Great service too. Check it out!!

Trang H.

Yelp
The crispy fish tacos are amazing! I highly recommend it. The beef birria tacos are also good, but carne asada is a bit bland.

Yelp
Already a favorite from Miami, I stopped by for dinner with a group of 3 other coworkers after a long day of traveling and meetings. It's close to the hotel I was staying, and a quick stroll near the new buildings in Arlington VA. On the way back, we even saw the Washington Monument! Like most spots of this cool chain, the place has a shabby chic beach town aesthetic. You write your order down on a slip of paper and within a few, your goodies are freshly made at your table. Our server was also nice enough to take a group picture of us. I started with their black beans and rice appetizer, tasty as always with a decent helping of black beans and the rice not overly sticky. The chips I borrowed from my colleague's order of chips and guac were nicely crispy. Next up, I enjoyed an Al pastor taco with well seasoned pork and a fresh slice of pineapple. If you like spicy, make sure to order one of their "burritas". The marinated chicken on the "pollo superior" one definitely had a nice amount of spice and was definitely well seasoned. The pina colada - also nicely garnished with a chunk of real pineapple- was creamy and refreshing but could have used a touch more booze. Still and all, it was refreshing.

Yelp
Took my mom here after I picked her up from DCA. We were hungry and were seated quickly. You mark down what you want to order with a pencil and hand it to the waiter. Once we were done with that our food came out within a few minutes as well as our drinks. The lighting is very bright and the chairs are like patio chairs inside which made it feel very casual but the price did not reflect that. We ordered a few things to try. Beef birria tacos (comes with 2): 8/10 very good consome sauce! I wish they had crispy cheese on the outside of the tacos that would bring this to a 10/10. Best thing we had tonight. Margaritas: 8/10, good and balanced would get again but a little small. Seared fish taco: 4/10 too much Mayo and lacking seasoning. The fish wasn't that crispy I wouldn't get this again. Black bean and sweet potato taco: 7/10 very tasty and the cheese was fresh Avocado tostada: 6/10 reminded me of nachos it was good but I wish it was spicy. Overall, I would come back for drinks but not sure it was worth it for the small portions and big price tag.

Yelp
Summary: This is the closets to Mexico City I have had in a while. I compare a lot of tastes to Taco Bamba in the suburbs of DC because they are so popular and everyone loves them so please take that into consideration in reading my reviews. Also, I grew up on Mexican food because my parents are Mexican. Before I start this off, let me add a fact for your consideration. I have spent years in Mexico and enjoyed street tacos on the streets of "La Cuidad". Thats Mexico City for those of you who haven't spent time south of the border. This is one of the closets to a Mexican street taco that I have found in the DMV. The sauces were quite good as well. One of them is straight Chiptole sauce, which to my taste buds reminded me of home and added a particularly enticing heat to the food. We had aqua Fresca' of Horchata which was really tasty and Jamaica (weird thing is that they give you a agave sweetener with it because the drink is tart.) But to each your own in taste buds. (Both delicious IMHO) I was disappointed that they didn't have jalepaneos on the table but "beggars can't be choosers" when it comes to street taco places. My wife, who is always seeking adventure, tasted the Avocado tostada which is "really good". She also had the sweet potato taco labeled black bean sweet potato. which is also really liked. She wished they had dessert. I share this thought. The service was laid back, not intrusive and accommodating. I even got an extra tortilla. The secret to this place is that they keep it simple and don't try to over do it on the creation. One of the indicators is that they use really good tortillas that have a lot of flavor. I think this sets them apart. I ordered three tacos to taste the range of the flavors. Carne asada, pollo yucateca and sinola shrimp tacos and all three tasted accurate. I mention this because its important point to a location of a restaurant in the middle of Crystal City Virginia, that is full of government contractors across the street from Amazon HQ. Overall, I was impressed with the taste of the food. The carne asada was on point. The pollo yucateca was tasty and also the sauces impressed me that were very close to home and I loved sitting outside at a table that reminded me of bbq's when I was a kid in Puebla. The parking situation stinks but they have underground parking nearby and I think that its free 30 minute parking. I would go back and try more of their menu. My hope is that they keep things simple and Tasty. I have seen this place packed during the lunch rush in the middle of the week. Bein provecho!

Tank G.

Yelp
This is a hip/colorful Mexican food spot located in the heart of Crystal City. There is metered street parking, and commercial garages within a reasonable walking distance. They have a small patio out front and a decent sized dining area with a small bar in the back. The patio has tables with umbrellas and some chairs. The restaurant is table service only. You get a pencil and a sheet with the menu on it that you use to place your order, including drinks. The menu includes entradas, tacos, enchiladas, quesadillas, and burritos. They also have breakfast tacos and adult beverages. The staff there was friendly enough. They did not go out of there way to engage or anything though. I ordered a couple of tacos and a drink (not one of their savory cocktails though). I got a Al Pastor, Carne Asada, and a Beef Birria tacos. It took them about 15 minutes to have my tacos prepared. They were fresh and hot and the typical sized tacos in the soft fried shell. My favorite was the El Pastor, but I am partial to pineapple. To wash my food down, I got Aqua De Sandia. It was a different kind of drink and was savory. The only real down side is that it did not last long and their are no refills.

Stuart O.

Yelp
This is a small, casual taco place in Crystal city. You fill out your Order at your table on a paper menu. We got margaritas, guacamole, and 4 tacos--2 fish and two black bean and sweet potato. The guacamole was very fresh and chunky. The margaritas were good, maybe a little pricey for the ambience. The tacos were very good.

Dave H.

Yelp
The tacos are good for the DC area, but they are overpriced for what you get. I did like the corn in a cup, but it was more expensive than I am used to. The fish taco was tasty as well as the El pastor. With all the metal folding chairs and card tables I would have expected more economical prices. They have a lot of juices, but wish they had tamarindo.

Kevin H.

Yelp
Smallest Tacos ever! You pay $7.00 and it wouldn't even fill up a small saucer plate. Taco was good but not for the price. This will be my last time at this place. Especially since there are so many other spots across the street . Don't waste your money. Can't imagine them being open another 3 to 6 months

Ian S.

Yelp
The tacos were amazingly flavorful and quick out of the kitchen. The ambiance is open and welcoming! I'd recommend they get comfier chairs since most of them on the high-tables are hard metal. Also, avoid the quesadillas because they take longer to make and they aren't much more food compared to the tacos. The servers were all very good, but were so busy with other customers that they could never get us more water or more tacos.

Annie A.

Yelp
I'm from Southern California, so my standards for tacos are much higher... However, considering these were tacos in DC, I gave it 4 starts (would give 3 in SoCal). Meats were flavorful, but portion sizes were small. Plus each taco was expensive like $5-$7. I ate three to feel full, and I don't eat much.... If you're a decent eater, you'll want to pay $30 or more for your meal of tacos.... I'm not sure if that's worth it

Tammie D.

Yelp
Stopped in late last night and they were closing at 10 so we ordered to go. Our order was taken at the bar and the guys were very helpful. We got a variety of tacos Birria. Al Pastor and carne asada. I also ordered rice and beans and we got some drinks to go. I love the whole aspect of using the tiles for the counter tops and tables. I will definitely return and dine in to get the complete experience.

Josh S.

Yelp
The service was great, quick and easy. I ordered two carne asada tacos, one baja fish taco, beans, and rice. Carne Asada tacos need some help. There are cheaper carne asada options around Arlington that are easily better than what they serve here. The Baja fish taco was on point. Black beans and white rice meh get the job done but nothing great about them.

Adeeb A.

Yelp
Nothing special about this place whatsoever. You can get a better burrito from chipotle. Highly expensive and greatly lacking flavor

Hunter B.

Yelp
We came here on a Sunday night and it was easy to grab a table. Interestingly enough the menu did not have burritos on it but the waitress said they do sell them so I got a carne asada one. It was great, full of spices and flavor that was very satisfying. A cool vibe to the place as well so I would come here again for Mexican food if I was around the area.

Jason M.

Yelp
Food, service and ambiance are all terrific! We opted for happy hour margaritas (they are not sky on the slice for their spicy versions!) and al pastor and Baja fish tacos. Everything was freshly prepared, served at the perfect temperature and in a very social atmosphere. Informal, approachable and consistently delicious are the hallmarks of Tacombi!

Yelp
Came here for happy hour on a Friday and we found our new favorite HH spot! Greeted at the door by a super nice manager, the servers were very attentive, and the food was quick! We tried a variety of tacos (birria, shrimp, Al pastor, black bean and sweet potato, and yhe carne asada). If I had to choose my favorite it would have been the birria or the shrimp, while my wife really loved the birria and the black bean/sweet potato. The carne asada was fine, but it gave us the chance to try all the sauces on the table which were incredible! Lastly, we tried the avocado tostada (AMAZING) and the corn equites (corn in a cup with cheese and spices)--both are MUST orders. The restaurant is open, moderate sound, and low lighting at night. We couldn't possibly come back to this place quickly enough! Come for the happy hour, the margaritas are super fresh and only 9 dollars!

Vivian H.

Yelp
We stumbled upon this place randomly and were taken aback by how cute it is. It wasn't super busy on a Tuesday at 7 pm. The food came back so quickly. The highlight was the elote! I do wish the tacos had a double shell, however. I would definitely come back for happy hour drink deals.

Michael C.

Yelp
Excellent pre-movie place to eat if you are visiting the Alamo Drafthouse. Came here because me and my date had about 45 min to spend before going to a big movie at the Drafthouse next door. In most cases, that would be pushing the time limits. Not here. Fast service. Straight forward ordering. Quick drinks. Quick bill. Very tasty Mexican food. This place is awesome whether you watching a movie or just in the area. Use garage parking on the weekend to save money too!

Melanie O.

Yelp
If you don't want to travel all the way to Mexico, this is a great option for some real deal authentic tacos! There's plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, the staff was so friendly and gave us their top picks. We tried the birria tacos (10/10), chicken (10/10), carne asada (10/10)! They were all so delicious, flavorful, and bursting with flavor. It was well decorated and very chill, great for hanging out with friends, family or a low key date night. I definitely want to go back to try all the other tacos and menu items. It's a must (especially with how quick they are)!!

Daniel P.

Yelp
We're the tacos expensive? Yes. But man oh man if they weren't some of the absolute tastiest tacos I've had. I devoured them to the point that I didn't care if it was costing me a bit. There's were some seriously good tacos! It was quick and the restaurant was cool definitely a good spot for a casual date night or just hanging with friends. Nothing here disappointed and I debated even coming back the next day to try more tacos!

Jordan K.

Yelp
In town for a work conference and felt like some Mexican food. So glad I tried this place!! SO GOOD! Neat atmosphere and while it wasn't super busy while I was there during the lunch hour, their service was great!!

Ellie D.

Yelp
The location has a nice indoor and outdoor seating area. The servers are pretty hands off with you interacting with different servers throughout your meal. When you order in you receive a piece of paper to write down the quantity of the items you'd like. You hand that off to a server and your order will come in a relatively short period of time. When you're ready to pay you flag down a server and, at least in our experience, they already have the card reader on them so paying the bill is quick and easy. What I got: Norteña quesadillas - 4* the meat was fantastic and overall this has great flavor. It is on the small side making the price not the best. I definitely thought it would be a bigger meal.

Garrett P.

Yelp
Food is really good but it's very small portions almost like a tasting menu. Service is good no complaints you order everything by filling out a ticket and they bring it out to you. Price wise it's way too expensive for what you get. Those tacos shouldn't cost more than $2.00 a piece they are so tiny. You're better off going to chipotle and getting a burrito. The cost is way better for the amount of food you get. The margaritas were good though. They were too small as well especially for $9 on happy hour. Overall I wasn't impressed although the tacos are good they couldn't be costing the restaurant more than cents to make seeing how small they are. $7 a taco is insane.

R P.

Yelp
Haven't been at the brick and mortar yet, but have ordered food from here multiple times. Everything has been great - particularly like the quesadillas (chicken and beef) which are not overloaded with cheese and have nice flavors, the al pastor taco, and the esquites/elote. Portion sizes are appropriate. If you want a calorie bomb, go to Chipotle and get over half your RDA in one burrito

Kat B.

Yelp
The service is amazing! You fill out your food on a menu sheet and they take it to put it in. The food is authentic! Coming from Texas I've had a hard time finding authentic Mexican food. However, the horchata is real not powder. It's de leche not de agua. The rice and beans are soo good. The pastor is trompo and the esquites is amazing .

After Tacombi opened in Crystal City I just had to try it. The ambiance is somewhat basic, and reminiscent of a taco bar in Playa Del Carmen (their original location), but you go here for the food, not atmosphere. The tacos are the bomb. Carne asada is super bold and flavorful albeit a tad spicy. The baja crispy fish taco is also very good, fresh, and tasty. They have some Tacmobi IPAs that are great and very reasonably priced, which I found a good alternative to the margaritas (my wife loved their skinny version). Only drawback is the chips and salsa are not free, nor are they on the menu. Great homemade chips, which you should absolutely order. I hear the happy hour here is great, so I'm very eager to return for that. Overall, great new addition to Crystal City and very affordable and tasty authentic Mexican tacos!
