Tacombi in downtown Brooklyn is one of those spots that immediately draws you in with its vibrant atmosphere and inviting setting. The décor has a fun, casual vibe with a distinctly Mexican flair, making it an enjoyable place to sit back and share a meal with friends. Its location is also a big plus—easily accessible and surrounded by the lively energy that makes Brooklyn dining such a great experience. On the service side, the staff is attentive and welcoming, which definitely adds to the overall positive impression.
That said, when it comes to the food itself, there’s room for improvement. The portions are fair for the price, which I do appreciate. It doesn’t feel like you’re being shorted, and value-wise it lines up with what you’d expect in the area. However, the flavors don’t quite deliver on the same level as the atmosphere and service. While the tacos and other dishes look appealing and are plated nicely, the taste can feel a little underwhelming—missing some of the depth and punch you might anticipate from authentic Mexican street-style food. Nothing was terrible, but nothing stood out enough to make me crave coming back solely for the food.
Another point worth mentioning is the drink selection. Tacombi only offers Lupita sodas, which feels limiting. While Lupita may be their in-house brand, it almost comes across as being pushed onto customers since there aren’t other soda options available. If you’re not a fan of Lupita’s particular flavor profile, that leaves you with little choice, which takes away from the overall dining flexibility.
All in all, Tacombi has great potential. With its charming setting, convenient location, and solid service, it sets high expectations. If the food’s flavors were elevated to match the rest of the experience, it could easily become a go-to spot. For now, it sits at a solid three stars.
