"Married couple Nadia Holguin and Armando Hernandez (Chihuahua natives, aka Chiwas) turn out excellent street tacos at their three Valley locations in Phoenix, Chandler, and Mesa. Order juicy barbacoa, their signature Taco Chiwas (filled with beef, ham, chiles and cheese), and the best tripas in town — all tucked in handmade corn tortillas. The pair have recently opened Cocina Chiwas in Tempe and Santo Arcadia in Phoenix’s South Arcadia. Both specialize in upscale, modern Mexican food." - Nikki Buchanan, Chris Malloy

"When measuring a burrito, tortilla quality sets the ceiling — and Tacos Chiwas makes some of the most celebrated flour tortillas in town. Nadia Holguin and Armando Hernandez griddle discs made from organic white flour. The result: pliant flour tortillas of uncommon fragrance and unshy chew. Burritos here come with nothing but meat and beans (except for the carne asada and pollo, which also come with lettuce). A juicy, flavorful picadillo makes a hearty inside as good as its wrapping." - Chris Malloy

The tacos were pretty good. They were not amazing, but they were pretty good. It’s a really cool restaurant, and the decor is on point. We had a good waitress, but she was a little overwhelmed by the number of people there during the lunch hour. She rarely stopped by our table. A lot of the hype about this place is the decor, the theme, and the presentation of the tacos.

Google
Had dinner here 3 times this week while in town. Tried all the tacos and a chicharron burrito. Got to say the food is fantastic and the service was 5 star. I'm already looking forward to coming back during my next visit!

Google
Decent tacos, cool spot to hang out at. It's right on Main St where it's beginning to flourish.

Scott Natte

Google
Well. A bit disappointed. Why? Small tacos with little flavor and very dry. At 3 dollars each that isn’t much but…. Unless I missed something…. Nah. Atmosphere.. noisy fan…. Not much else.

Heidy Santana

Google
Visited because everyone always raves about this place. I will say the decor is super cute not a “hole in the wall” vibe at all. The tacos are fine— but really their secret weapon in my opinion is the red chile gorditas — MUST TRY!!!! I crave them everyday. Oh also their salsa is actually pretty spicy just use sparingly

Google
So delicious! My wife and I visited Tacos Chiwas for the first time today for dinner. This is perfectly located in the heart of Downtown Mesa! The vibe is excellent. Patio is perfect. The flavors are over the top with authentic bold spices. Seat yourself. Bus your own table. Get one of everything! It's all so delicious! The Gorditas are magical. The barbacoa tacos! Be sure to visit the taco bar area to get the salsa, but most importantly, the spicy creme sauce!!! The drinks were also very tasty. We got two Margaritas and a Mezcal Mule.

Google
Highly recommend the spicy cucumber margarits! I dont usually enjoy regular margarits, but they have a variety of falvor options. Dinner was DELICIOUS! Chicken was tender and juicy. Carnitas had great flavor. Al pastor was very well seasoned. The fresh made tortillas are dreamy.

Danielle

Google
Drinks were tasty and the food was great. The tortillas on the tacos are so soft! I will be back for more. The person who took our order was patient and helpful. Downtown Mesa has really grow the past 5 years and we love to see it! Parking is easy as there is enough around Main Street and it’s nice to walk around and see what going on.

Yelp
This is the taco place that every neighborhood needs. Casual, convivial atmosphere in front and seriously good food coming out of the kitchen. Glad we found it, can't wait to hit it again. The wife says to not sleep on the margaritas.

Daniel W.

Yelp
Tacos, uhm, yeah! From the moment you step in, you're welcomed like family. Every taco has an authentic taste, especially the Tacos Pastor, with its tender marinated pork and the flavorful Carne Asada, grilled to perfection. Pollo and carintas were decent. Also, try their gorditas. It's pretty good, too. And don't miss their mango margarita, a good blend of tangy sweetness that perfectly complements your meal. $9+ a pop for a small margarita but has some decent alcohol content. The staff are warm and attentive, ensuring your experience is nothing short of amazing. Once you try it, you'll be hooked!

Yelp
Trying to decide what to order? Taco your time! There are so many delicious tacos/burritos/gorditas and quesadillas to choose from. Tacos Chiwas is a family-owned restaurant, serving up some of the best Chihuahua style food. They currently have three locations serving the valley: Phoenix, Mesa and Chandler. Why did it take me so long to visit Tacos Chiwas?! We may never know the answer, but I'm glad I finally did. On this visit, I decided to get a little bit of everything: ($9) Pollo burrito, ($3) carnitas taco, ($3) barbacoa taco and ($5) deshebrada roja gordita. All of the tacos use homemade corn tortillas while the gorditas and burritos use flour (yum). $3 for amazing tacos! Someone better take my wallet away from me before I go broke. Everything I ate was delicious and I would definitely order again... especially that gordita. One thing I didn't expect was the speed of service. My food was ready to go within a matter of minutes!

Meachele C.

Yelp
I had super high expectations for this place. Everyone at work raves about it!! I ordered the carnitas tacos with a side of beans....they lacked flavor and coming from a white girls that says something (LOL) Met my friend who is Hispanic so I was trying to find him some authentic food that I would also enjoy. He ordered the tongue tacos and was also not impressed. Very bland. The beans however....those were delicious!! The place was packed and the service was fantastic! Our food was brought out super fast and that appreciated. What is great about AZ is the variety of Mexican restaurants and that there is something for every tastebud!! Please come and enjoy Taco Chiwas....give your feed back. You may love it as so many do....as for me...I am glad I experienced it and that was enough for me. 4 stars for fast service and great beans! Tacos are a 3 star....the taste was bland. Not good, not bad...no flavor.

Yelp
My friend and I came here for lunch on a Saturday at about 2:30 p.m... perfect timing. There were plenty of seating, we walked right up to the ordering counter, placed our order, got our number and a seat at the bar. The restaurant from the outside looks small, but it's quite big on the inside. They also have patio seating. We ordered 3 tacos: Tripas, Pastor, Asada and a Deshebrada Roja Burrito and a side of Street Corn and a couple of Modelo's. The plates came out fairly quickly, looking great. The food was fantastic and with the hot sauce station, it made for the perfect accompaniment. I would definitely come here again. LOL, on a side note, before our late lunch we were indulging on cocktails next door at the AZ distillery which does not serve food... worked out perfectly! Atmosphere: laid back, casual fun feel. Food: excellent. Service: excellent

Jarek G.

Yelp
This was my first time here and I immediately loved it. I love the style of ordering at a counter instead of having a server. The menu was awesome, very well priced ($3 a taco) and everything was great. My favorite protein was the carne asada and second favorite was the barbacoa. The drinks we also amazing. I got the AZ heat and it was so good, just enough spice and chili heat to give it flavor but not overpowering. The inside vibe was awesome, we went on a Wednesday night and it was pretty full. They have a bar with a couple TVs and it was air conditioned as well!

Yelp
One year update... still delicious. Living in California I only get out this way a few times a year. But almost stop here for a great meal. Tonight was no exception. The flavors are so distinct from the traditional Mexican flavors. Tonight tacos were the calabacitas a slightly sweet Mexican squash. So good. Last words...another

Stephanie L.

Yelp
Not the best, and not the worst. Ok tacos for a quick, casual lunch and reasonable at $3/each. Of the three I ordered (chiwas, pastor, and carne), I would say the carne was the best. The pastor was fine but it wasn't as tender or flavorful as the pastor tacos I get. My coworkers had the picadillo and bean and cheese burrito and shared the same sentiment. The tres leche carrot cake caught my eye at the register. I didn't think to ask how much it was, but I wasn't expecting NINE DOLLARS!! It was stodgy and dense, drowning in (evaporated?) milk. 0/10 do not recommend this. I didn't finish it and I usually would have, especially since it cost $9!

Natalie D.

Yelp
Oops! I woodfed down my tacos and seasonal watermelon margarita before taking a photo!! I ordered carne asada tacos, calabacitas tacos (vegetarian) + a side of elote and everything was flipping amazing. The quality of the ingredients were top notch. Not to mention their made-from-scratch margaritas. Not premix here my amigos. The vibe is a little divey which adds a to the ambiance. Enjoy!

Gretel Y.

Yelp
Taco bout great food! Tacos Chiwas serves Chihuahua style food in a fast casual setting. The space has a fun and relaxed vibe. I've visited a few times and the food hits the spot everytime. The service is fast and friendly. I always get the shrimp tacos, cheese quesadilla, elote, and the special dessert, which changes seasonally. The food is fresh and flavorful. The corn tortillas are handmade. The tacos are $3, the quesadillas are $5, and the elote is $5. The prices are very reasonable! The portions are great, too. I always leave full and sometimes with leftovers!

Bailey L.

Yelp
Just an update - Still delicious and hits the mark each time! I tend to enjoy Taco Chiwas at least once a month, which is one of the few places I eat out to on a consistence basis. This is the spot I bring family and friends when visiting in town or just want something that hits the mark. Every. Single. Time. I still love the Rajas & Deshebrada Verde gorditas. I will indulge in a Taco Chiwas taco, quesadilla or elote as well with the craving comes on. Love all the salsas and they have now switched to a salad bar which I love. They do lean in the spicy side still, but so flavorful. Honestly, the only notes is that the napkins at the table are so thin! But I do love that that keep rolls on the table - gotta love that millennial napkin game. Service is friendly and quick and I look forward to every visit! The vibe is fun and casual, ample seating indoors and outdoors. It's still my go-to spot and recommendation.

Desi C.

Yelp
I came here the other night with family to start our night out. The building itself is kinda small for seating so be cautious it may be full. They have a couple couches in the corner for seating too. The line moves very fast and the service was really nice. I loved that even though it was busy our cashier still had a great attitude. The food came out really fast! It's not a super big entree so I recommend ordering a side too. The quesadilla itself was delicious though! The chicken was well flavored and packed in there pretty good. There is a salsa bar with three different salsa choices. I personally had the jalapeño cream which was spicy for me, but very yummy. The margarita was pretty good too, a bit more on the tart side but that's kinda expected with passion fruit. Next time I will try mango! Overall this place was a great experience. The vibes are nice and the food was good. The staff is very busy and there is signs to help them out by bussing your own table, so please make sure to clean up after yourself after enjoying!

Yelp
Tacos Chiwas has been getting a lot of hype. When I found myself nearby with some time to kill, I decided to grab lunch. I hadn't been to downtown Mesa in a while and the block Tacos Chiwas is on is a whole trendy vibe onto itself. Despite clear signs I didn't quite get the whole queue at the front end of the bar to order. Like many taco places, I suspect the best options are reserved for carnivores, but there is a vegan option here. I ordered two shrimp tacos. The guy working the register was nice enough but not exactly helpful for someone who had never been in before. I noticed he was a lot more chatty with the male hipster clientele. An offer of a water cup would have been nice. Also, there's a drink station at the back with soda and such that I didn't realize was an option when ordering. i picked a table and enjoyed the chilly desert weather with the fire door open. it took about 10 minutes for my food to come out at a non-busy time. The tacos were very solid and the shrimp were perfectly cooked. i felt like it was a good amount of food for $7 though if i had been hungry a third taco would have been a good idea.

Mary L.

Yelp
I loved Tacos Chiwas!! I am from Chihuahua myself and the delicious food brings me back home. I love the chile colorado burrito. It's my favorite. Great size and just the right amount of spicy. Try it you won't regret it! The place is always packed when I've stopped by. I usually just order online and pick up. Even then, the service has been great and fast.

Deb S.

Yelp
Service and food quality have been going way down recently. The tables were filthy, our order was incorrect (twice), and the tacos just were not the same as they used to be. The meats were fine, but not wow!! Also, their patio is NOT dog-friendly anymore, even though it is stated on the downtown Mesa website as being such. Sad visit for us.

Dominique D.

Yelp
The tacos here are amazing! I was visiting the area for the week and was on the hunt for the best tacos. I'd say this place is top of my list. I ordered an assortment of tacos and each one tasted great. The food was fresh and full of flavor. I honestly could've ordered more. That's how good they were! The service was great. I did takeout and waited at the bar for my food to come out. There is a ton of seating inside the restaurant. Next time I'm in AZ I'm definitely coming back

Dorally L.

Yelp
The quality of the food has definitely gone down. The "carne asada" tastes more like carne guisada. The rajas had no flavor. The tripas were too chewy Sad this place now seems to be catering to the demographic that doesn't like their food seasoned

Kat V.

Yelp
Wow wow wow tacos here are so good! We did not plan to come here but after two failed attempts on the same day to try their sister restaurants (one in Tempe and one in downtown Mesa), we ended up here knowing that we would get a good food. They are busy. The line is long. But the way they manage it is the right way. After we placed the order, we got the table. Once the food comes, we enjoy it. Then we put the dish away. I had lengua, barbacoa, carnitas tacos are delicious. Horchata is refreshing.

Kenny S.

Yelp
What a cool little place!! Tastey street tacos and cold beer !! I love their salsa bar as well. Jesse did an excellent job at taking care of us even though the place was busy! Great job Tacos Chiwas !!

Jenna M.

Yelp
This was a cool place. I liked the vibe and location. The food was just so so, we got a bunch of tacos and they just weren't that flavorful. For food 3/5. However, the margs 5/5. The guava one had to be one of the best margaritas I've had! We will be back, we will skip the food but come for a few good drinks

Michael H.

Yelp
Hey guys, don't typically write a review. However, I was very excited for this restaurant. My tortillas were not cooked at all. As in they were super cold did not even touch the stove top. I ordered eight tacos. And all of the meat was also cold besides, I think the barbacoa. But other than that, everything was cold. Tortillas cold meat cold. My shrimp taco tasted like it was recently thawed out. the food was overall not good. Also, the gordita tasted stale. It's almost like they have Gorditas on standby and then when you order it, they just fill it with your desired meat right then and there. The positive was the servers and the hostess. They were very nice and attentive. The next day I had to go to Bravostacos to really get my taco fix.

Shannon L.

Yelp
A MUST in downtown Mesa I started with their Mezcal Margarita and not sure if I'll be able to find another one that is even close to comparing to the deliciousness The food was quick and is the perfect place to stop for a quick, reasonably priced lunch. They have a bar of delicious sauces and salsas to add. Can't wait to go back and try more of the menu.

Amber G.

Yelp
Deshebrada Rojas Gordita was absolutely amazing I loved the Barbacoa tacos more than the carnitas but both were still top of the line. I will definitely be back here. Your food comes out so quick and it delicious. They also have a huge selection of adult beverages. Didn't get to try any on this trip but I will be back for more

Lalita M.

Yelp
sister restaurant to Espiritu (absolutely KILLER as well), this place is the fast casual answer to Espiritu's more grown-up, "sophisticated" vibe INSANE tacos (seriously, every meat they have is amazing) and very very veryyyy good cocktails at super affordable prices, this place is hard to beat when I think street taco, I think tiny and that I need maybe 4? 5? the tacos here are FAT and amazing - i'm usually good with one, 2 if i'm feeling real crazy. they also have the best salsa ever, off to the side in a serve-yourself bar service is always awesome - I live around the corner and I'm always so excited to see the staff here. shoutout Jinece and Maya!!!

Sloan P.

Yelp
I love downtown Mesa, and for some reason every time I'm down there I forget to check out this little spot! My daughter and my niece have been raving about this place for some time, so I finally checked it out for myself. Like many of the other businesses in downtown Mesa, this place is small, long and narrow with most of the inside taken up with a big bar. There is a little salsa station and water station toward the back. The big garage door opens up to provide a lot more seating when the weather permits. There is a huge TV behind the bar to catch your favorite sporting event. The menu is pretty simple: tacos, Burros, and a few salads. They also have a nice variety of delicious margaritas. My daughter and I had the veggie tacos, chicken, tacos, a quesadilla, a mango margarita, and a spicy cucumber margarita. We finished it off with a Berry très Leche carrot cake. Everything we ordered was delicious. The homemade tortillas are amazing. And my mango margarita, although, on the smaller side, was one of the best mango margaritas I have ever had. It was rimmed with a sweet and spicy Rimmer, and a beautiful, dry blood orange for a garnish. Although we were there on a random Thursday evening around seven, the place stayed busy and only slow down closer to closing time. I was very happy to see that! There are lots of places you should eat in downtown Mesa to support local, but I would definitely add tacChiwas to the list of must try!

Omari D.

Yelp
One of my top Mexican spots here in the valley with a great atmosphere that always delivers solid food!! They have a few locations in the valley (closer to me) but the patio off of Main St. in Mesa is nice & parking in the rear is plentiful. I enjoy making my way from the rear as they have direct access to and you stroll past the kitchen (Goodfellas vibe). Hit the line to place your order (the menu is on the wall, it ain't that complicated) and they will have your cocktails made immediately (hence sometimes why the wait) but they turn them quickly. One of my favorite items... the Elote... I'm a big fan of all the Gorditas, $3 tacos, burritos, and cocktails... lots of good margaritas. The Cocktails make the vibe here in Downtown Mesa... so when you want a drink, grab a taco or 2 & chill at the bar or the lounge area with the cool signage.

Casey W.

Yelp
This place is awesome! Miah and Jay behind the bar were incredibly knowledgeable and helpful. The food was on point. Ordered a Barbacoa (off the menu) quesadilla with the rajas (veggies)...would give this dish an A+ rating...in Miah's words this is "fire." Also grabbed 6 tacos, Pollo (best) Asada (close runner-up) Carnitas (not quite as flavorful), in our opinion...but all are delicious as advertised! Be sure to check out all the salsas, onions, and peppers at the self-help station. This spot is outstanding...will definitely be back...would give them 11 stars if I could!

Veronica A.

Yelp
Food is THE BEST. The servers are the WORST. They are rude. They aren't helpful with any questions. Take order flip screen for tip, walk away, just so rude. I reached across the counter to get my receipt and drink cup because she's so mean. Her name is Pam. Pam has no customer service .

Tyler V.

Yelp
I feel bad for giving this place three stars, but I think it's warranted for the hype and price. Right off the bat, I want to throw out there that every employee was super friendly and helpful. They were the stars of our visit and part of why I feel bad giving this place three stars. Inside, it's a cool spot to grab a bite off Downtown Mesa's main drag. Now, to my review... I saw the Triple D and Netflix shows that featured this spot, which fits into my review. I would say my biggest negative was that I ordered an Asada burrito and a taco (roughly $12-14 combined) and was still plenty hungry. I did not order anything else because, sadly, I didn't think it was worth the price. Were both the items I ordered tasty? Sure, but when I order a $9 burrito and $3 taco for that much money and hype, I hope it satisfies my hunger just a little. This was also the consensus of others in my party who were also familiar with this location. I honestly almost didn't write this review. Something that factors into my rating is if I would return. With the area and options, I wouldn't. I would say, though, to make your own judgment. There's lots to do in Downtown Mesa, and if you're in the mood for Mexican, try it and see if you would add it to your rotation.

Abi C.

Yelp
Best carne asada tacos I've had in the valley. Hands down. The pastor is delicious as well. What do they put in the meat? Sooooo good. Very reasonably priced. Quick service. Nice casual feel. This is quickly becoming one of our regular spots. Still need to try one of those margaritas!

O M.

Yelp
I've been to the one in Phoenix and the one in Mesa. The red chili Gorditas are my favorite. The one in Mesa has great vibes. Good place to go for lunch.

Blanche G.

Yelp
Taco Chiwas is our favorite taco shop in town so far! My first time was at the Chandler location. It was small but cute. I sat outside of the restaurant on their outdoor chairs because I brought my puppy with me. It was very nice of them to allow us to dine with our puppy outside. My boyfriend and I tried four different flavors of their tacos, and they were all amazing. I also tried their cheese quesadilla, which was super cheezy and great with beer. I'm not sure if they have alcohol offered at this location, but we tried Mexican coke for the first time. We definitely enjoyed the pairing with tacos and quesadillas. A few weeks later, we met with our friends at the Mesa location. It was our first time checking out the Mesa location and it was our friends' first time trying Taco Chiwas. The vibe inside was perfect for a Saturday brunch, with lively music, great drinks, and amazing food. We tried some more tacos as well as their gorditas. I was not sure which filling I ordered for the gorditas, but the style of adding stuff inside of a half-cut bread reminded me of a street food in China, rou jia mo. We ordered a side of elote as well. It was a little bit too savory to my tasting, but I think it'd be a good side food for beers and margs. Their mezcal margaritas were killing, and I had to get a second one before I left. The only thing I wish they would do differently is to allow dogs on the patio. They only allow service dogs at this point, but it'd be great if we could dine with our puppies since Mesa is a very dog-friendly city. We would consider going there more often if we could stop by after walking our dog. Overall, I definitely recommend this place to not only local residents but also people who visit the Phoenix area. I think the Mesa location is perfect for a hangout with tacos and drinks while the Chandler location is good for a quick bite or take-outs. We can't wait to go back again!

Nay L.

Yelp
We have brought sooooooooo many people to the Mesa location just for the eloté! Oh my word the eloté!!!!! The tacos are amazing. Great price for a reasonable serving, incredible cocktails, casual and fun. Even our toddlers love eating here! Don't be intimidated by the line, the service is quick and accurate every time. Love Tacos Chiwas!

Celia V.

Yelp
I have gotten Tacos Chiwas via Uber Eats previously, but I had to have it fresh and in person. My bestie invited me for lunch today, and wow, so much better when it's fresh! I had 2 shrimp tacos, a side of elote, and a delicious strawberry mixed drink they had as a special(sorry I did not catch the full name). Very delicious! The tortillas taste home made. They have a salsa bar with all the salsa you could want, the red has a very nice kick ! Inside is very cute and kept very clean. There is not a lot of seating overall, so beware if you are coming during a busy time. Will be coming back to try other items for sure!

Parker H.

Yelp
Service was amazing, ambiance was unlike any other, food came out quick correct and steaming hot. never in my life have i left a review for a restaurant but this was place too good to not too. 1000/5 stars.

Victoria M.

Yelp
Awesome location and such great energetic staff who work here! The vibe is so nice and chill yet energetic and fun! They explain the menu options and are helpful with suggestions! Portion size is kind of small but two tacos and a Gordita were perfect!!! Their drinks hit the spot and tasted amazing!! The michilada and mango Margarita are a must try! We will definitely be back here, the food was authentic and delicious!! Pastor Taco so yummy Picadillo Gordita gosh so yummy but order two because they are smaller with a great taste! Barbacoa these were my FAVORITE!!!

Stephen G.

Yelp
Use to be 5 stars, my fav place and would bring every out of town friend here. Been going down hill last several visits. 2 weeks ago= the meat was really bad. Dry chicken, had the consistency of tuna, and tasted off. The carne asada was also way below what I am use to. 2 burritos were falling apart, ripped, and VERY small. Then when I went to leave, I see this big pile of onions on a tray with trash by the pick up window...disgusting. This is after I got a hair in my burrito at the Chandler location a year ago, and they didn't seem to care, and then gave me a hard time about a refund, then only a partial refund. Is a shame, but I am done with them.

Darya S.

Yelp
After all I've heard about Chiwas, I was so disappointed. I got the lengua, asada, pollo, barbacoa, tripa, and calabacitas tacos. The only one that was edible was the lengua. The others were either greasy (asada), chunky (pollo), tasteless (calabacitas), or dry (tripas). I'm so confused by this experience. Also, other taco places add so much more in terms of toppings, and are way cheaper. I quite literally took one bite of each of the tacos and threw the rest out. So underwhelmed by this experience. Not even whelmed. To top it off, the waitress who took my takeout order was so rude! I walked away muttering to myself, "okay..."

Aerial P.

Yelp
Best tacos in Mesa and probably in the valley! Love coming to Tacos Chiwas for tacos, drinks, and their kind & quick service. The Mezcal margarita is the go to drink of choice, perfect blend of smokey spice and everything nice. Can't go wrong with any of the tacos, but the el pastor is drool worthy. Downtown Mesa is up and coming with so many good joints, but Tacos Chiwas takes the cake. I highly recommend starting here to begin your Mesa food & drink adventures.

Eric D.

Yelp
The tacos are amazing. Hands down the best carne asada tacos I have ever had. The Pollo tacos and well as the pollo quesadilla were great ! It's a must stop when in the area ! 9.75/10.

Marni B.

Yelp
Hands down some of the best tacos in the valley. Everything is good here-- the tacos, quesadillas, elote-- you name it, it's delicious! The staff is friendly and the food is quick. It's also in a cute area in downtown Mesa. Tacos Chiwas is a great place to get some authentic Mexican food and support an amazing local business!!!

Tony H.

Yelp
Everyone else has said it... this place rocks. I came in for a couple of tacos and a beer. One beer and six tacos later I am leaving. I was going to order more tacos but I didn't want to be in a food coma for the rest of the day. Service was fast, food was incredible and the beer was cold. Can't ask for anything more. Probably the best carne asada I have ever had.

Lana J.

Yelp
We've been here a few times and it's been very solid. I always get the barbacoa taco and refried beans. Outstanding! My husband ordered a red chili burrito ,-Deshebrada Roja and proclaimed it s the best burro he's ever had! The sauces/salsas are really good too. We've always had really good service here and the food comes out in a very timely manner. I was super disappointed they didn't have the flan that was on the sandwich board outside. I waited in a long line to order it and when I finally got to the front, they said they were out. This has happened to me once before. They really need to pull those items from the sign if they're not available.

Christopher R.

Yelp
I really enjoyed the food and I would absolutely go again. The food is delicious for starters. Is it my favorite tacos in Phoenix? No but then again there's virtually thousands and thousands of taco places so the best is definitely subjective. Is it one of the best? Absolutely. We did go at a time where it was not very busy so we got lucky that we were able to order and eat with no delay. I live around the corner so there's been times I've driven by and thought about going and seen the line and just kept on driving but that's seemingly any decent restaurant in the Phoenix Metro area at this point. So if you're looking for some of the best tacos you can get this is certainly the place for that.

Yelp
Great lil taco joint in downtown Mesa! Chihuahua style taqueria with all the vibes! Tacos are cheap, but delicious and full of flavor! You don't want to miss the tacos chiwas tacos and pastor tacos - my faves! Order/pay at the counter and they will bring your food out to you *or* sit up at the bar for a cool drink to wash down those tacos! I usually walk down the street to the local arcade and breweries nearby after having my meal. It's growing quickly in downtown Mesa, but it's so welcoming and definitely about the local community- and Tacos Chiwas is the Reina of the strip!

Yelp
I don't want the secret to get out...BUT it's too important: 5 stars for the awesome, homemade Bloody Mary! Really, really good. Pro tip-if you sit at the bar you can order directly from the bartender/cashier/server instead of standing in the ordering line, paying at the register and getting a number etc.

Yelp
If I'm craving tacos this is the place to go! The staff is incredibly friendly and I love the atmosphere of this taco spot. Their shrimp tacos, elote, and a yummy margarita is my go to!

Yelp
If you like street Tacos, this is the place. No thrills or frills for service but friendly staff and attentive to your concerns and questions. There wasn't a Taco or side order that wasn't delicious. Highly recommend will not disappoint.

Yelp
I enjoyed this restaurant. I ordered the quesadilla and carnitas taco with the Vamanos beer all were excellent!!

Yelp
Tacos Chiwas has been a go-to place of mine for years, I've taken multiple friends here over the years and they all agree that it's some of the best Mexican food they've ever had. The tacos and quesadillas are amazing, but the elote is next level. If they have it when you go, definitely get it. The margaritas are also some of the best I've had, they use fresh fruit and you can taste it for sure. It can be a bit small in the actual restaurant but I've never really had an issue finding a seat. The food is worth it for sure.
