Tacos El Patrón Review - Mission - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"This airy Mission spot has a great menu of taqueria classics like tacos with homemade tortillas, vampiros, and rich choriqueso. The shining stars on the menu, however, are the quesabirria tacos. Each crispy tortilla envelope is stuffed to the brim with juicy beef that blends perfectly with the melted cheese. We recommend getting at least three—two for now, and one for 15 minutes later. Other reasons Tacos El Patrón is the lunch and dinner MVP: free chips and salsa is still an art form, the portion sizes are huge, and you’ll always find a seat, even when this place is packed—and it usually is, since its greatness is no secret.  " - Lani Conway

Best Restaurants in Concord and Pleasant Hill - Eater SF

"Located next to a lingerie store and a car wash, the Pleasant Hill location is the original Tacos El Patron, followed by the more recently opened one in the Mission. The delicious birria tacos accompanied by a small tub of sip-or-dip consommé are the best. If you order two or more tacos, complimentary sides of radishes, nopales, refried beans, and onions grilled in a foil packet are available upon request. Vegetarians have choices too, including tacos filled with griddled red and green bell peppers, and onions, then topped with cheese and guacamole. Call ahead to order because there’s often a line." - Rebecca Shea

Food was really good with lots of variety! Loved the guacamole - nice lime flavor. They even have 4-5 different kinds of sauce to try. I’m Staff were super friendly. The only thing I noticed was a strong cleaner smell when I first walked in. Not my favorite, but I get that it means they keep the place clean. Overall, a great spot! It was packed when we left, so I’d recommend coming a little early.

This place was delicious! I ordered the carne asada burrito with everything (my default choice), and it definitely delivered. I especially loved that the burrito was grilled after being rolled — it added the perfect touch. The tacos were also tasty, though a bit pricey for their size. And the dessert? The cherry on top of an already great meal. I’ll definitely be back the next time I’m in the area!

Update 9/13: My wife and I were invited back by the manager to come and experience this restaurant a 2nd time with better customer service for us. The manger, Alberto, did not lie. It was amazing. We were treated like customers should be treated. We both felt cared for and cared about. Hilario (waiter, bartender) overall amazing.. helped to make this experience wonderful. His conversation, jokes and just his attitude made us feel warm and welcome. Thank you Alberto and Hilario for ensuring that our 2nd visit was top notch. I 100% reccomend this restaurant. Oh btw... get the Birrias and Margaritas when you go. They are soooo freaking good!!! Update 8/19/25: I was immediately reached out to by the manager (I didn't get the chance to post this sooner). He showed a concern around the issues that I listed. I appreciate the care he displays when it comes to issues at this establishment. He wants to engage that we have a better visit in the future. However, he asked me to reach out to him and unfortunately I do not know how to. If he or anyone fun his staff reads this, can you please send me a private message so I can discuss this further, as you requested. Thank you. Visited this place with my wife because of the amount of reviews and the positive reviews or received. I'll give all the good first. Pros: We were immediately seated. The chips and salsa tasted very fresh. The chips were served hot. We both ordered Super Birria Quesadilla with a side of rice and I ordered beans (Refried). She ordered a mango margarita and I ordered strawberry margarita. Our food came out hot Food and drinks were so tasty. The restaurant is a beautiful space. Cons: We sat 5-7 mins without anyone coming over. No one brought menus, water nor greeted us. The restaurant was not packed at all. They were mopping the restaurant during service time which is unsanitary and unhealthy due to fumes. That is something that should be done before or after hours. Not while customers are eating. Also, it is unsafe for customers to walk in wet floors (They had wet floor signs, but you still had to walk on the floor to get to your table. That is how you are sued for unnecessary slip and falls). When we were finally greeted by Sebastian, our waiter, we were happy. However, about 2 mins later we were given another waiter, Ricardo. We didn't understand what happened to Sebastian. Ricardo did really well until accommodating us for a good amount of time. However, my wife asked for some items and he never brought her 2 items she requested, so she had to ask for them again. Right before we paid our bill, my wife ordered 2 strawberry lemonade. However, once we paid the bill. We sat and waited close to 10 mins for lemonade that had been sitting made over 7 mins ago. Ricardo never came back. My wife even reminded him when he picked up the card payment machine. I guess we became irrelevant after we paid our bill. That was not considerate of us as paying customers. Oh and yes.. he received a tip. Another waiter was nice enough to get it for us when my wife told him that we had been waiting. He even gave us a drink tasty because we had been waiting so long. I forgot his name, not his face. Thank you so much for caring. Hope to see you next time when we visit again. Lastly, the drink menu states that there is real fruit. However, we didn't see any fruit added nor really taste it like it had fruits. The strawberry lemonade was bland. We will return again, but Ricardo cannot be out waiter moving forward.

Old Lady Piedmont called me and said she wanted her radiator flushed out, and I straight up told her no! But....I told her if she spotted for lunch at Tacos El Patron & Bar, I would bring Joe the Albino and Skidmark to her place, and they would tag team the job! To my surprise..she agreed. I settled in for some of the best food from Tacos El Patron, and it was amazing, the tacos were so good..I had 9 of them! 5 stars 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟

I came here for the first time recently and I got the patrón taco, the vampiro taco and two lengua tacos. I liked all the tacos but the patrón and the vampiro was my favorite. On a whim I also got the churros which were also pretty good (should be shared though its too much for one person). My experience was good and I may return to try ther birria offerings since they are known for that.

First time walking thru the door... friendly, professional service. While I waited...fresh, amazing salsa n chips were provided...the tequila bar is well appointed! Salsa bar too! Do not miss this taqueiera! Very nice design :)

Absolutely awesome tacos. They have amazing sauces as well. My new favorite Mexican place in the bay area. The Birria was top notch and not to be missed. Don't hesitate to give this place a rrey!!!

Yelp
Love it! The lengua and cebollas asada grilled onions side are great. My favorite was probably the lengua street taco patron style. Service is great. Place is crowded. I sat alone at the bar. The pastor was good too. I will be back for more lengua and to try the chorizo and carne asada, and for more lengua The tacos especial were good too but honestly I prefer the street tacos

Yelp
I can't believe I was passing by Tacos El Patron daily without trying it until now! The tacos are incredible here, and I am dreaming about my next bite! First, the proportions are huge- and two tacos easily filled me up, although I decided to stuff myself silly and eat three. I tried the birreria taco, tacos patron (shrimp) and pescado taco. All three were absolutely fantastic, but my favorite was the pescado with its perfectly cooked and freshly fried white fish and flavorful toppings. FYI ordering 2 or more specialty tacos includes extra sides for free- radish, cactus or grilled onions. Even the complimentary tortilla chips were SO good- fresh, thin, crisp and warm- which perfectly implemented the salsa. Now tacos would not be complete with a drink pairing and I would highly suggest getting an agua Fresca! The portion is enormous, and the watermelon flavor was absolutely perfect. I would also like to add that the service was excellent- and our server was friendly and kind. The food came out very quickly- maybe no more than 10 minutes after ordering. I can't wait to come back and eat more tacos, and try the hibiscus agua Fresca next time!

Yelp
We came to visit here and we loved it. The flavor was goods I recommend getting the hot sauce. It's spicy and tasty

Yelp
Good tacos, amazing birria! I thought the Al pastor (4/5 stars) was better than the shredded pork (3.5/5 stars) but my partner disagreed. We both thought the birria (5/5 stars blow your mind amazing) may be the best birria we've ever had in our lives! We can't wait to try their SF location in the Mission. FYI - at 3pm on a Sunday nearly every table was full. No wait to be seated, but it was busy!

Yelp
I stopped here before heading back to Oakland . I ordered birria meat enchiladas with salsa verde and they were on point . The chorizo beans were very delicious and flavorful . My fiancé ordered the wet burrito with mole sauce and lengua/cabeza. The flavors were also great . We shared a large horchata and I was happy that it was not powder and tasted authentic , creamy and yummy. The plates are generous size , I was only to finish one enchilada and the beans . We did wait about 20 minutes to get sat but definitely worth the wait . The service was fast and friendly . The ambiance was chill not to loud nothing fancy just like a small mom and pop shop . You can def see all the cooks popping off orders and making sure to fulfill all the tickets coming in DoorDash and in-house . I did order a flan to go so I will update how the flavors were when i eat that :) .

Yelp
Update to a previous review. A friend and I visited Tacos El Patron again after have not gone back in awhile. The last time we were there they have an outdoor tent with seating. This trip they had expanded new indoor seating and an enhanced menu. I tried a Chili Verde Tostada and a Carnitas Taco. I loved the tostada, the chili verde was tender and flavorful. Sadly the carnitas taco wasn't as flavorful, the meat seems to be boiled so it doesn't have the nice marinated flavor or crispness when the pork is fried. With the onions, cilantro and cilantro it tastes okay. Way back when I first visited the carnitas were crisped up on the griddle. My friend had a carnitas taco, lengua taco and a Chorteada with pork belly as the meat. He absolutely loved the Chorreada and said the pork belly was tasty. He said the lengua was good but that he wouldn't order the carnitas again. The restaurant remodel is nice, tables turn over quickly, staff is attentive and quick, everything we have tried so far except for the carnitas is good. We plan to come back and try one of the many dishes they have. Chips and salsa are very good and is complimentary. For some very good Mexican food, service and pricing, try Tacos El Patron, one of the better restaurants in the Pleasant Hill/Concord area.

Yelp
They have quite the menu even though. Parking is tiny so come outside of busy times. Inside isn't too big either. They were quite busy when we were there on Sunday late afternoon. Food came out quickly. But took a little time to get their attention to order. I had the super burrito, which was pretty decent size. Table came with chips and salsa and 4 types of sauces. One of them has a pretty good kick. My super burrito was good but a little dry. For some reason it didn't come with sour cream. Not sure if that's standard or I'm supposed to ask for it. I just added a whole lotta sauce and it was very good. Price wise it is not cheap. But we enjoyed our meal.

Yelp
Friendly staff and good food in this cozy inviting establishment! The remodel has made this a true sit-down restaurant which retains its "family-run" feel. On our latest visit, my son and I walked (2 miles!) here from his apartment - I was sooo glad for the large iced tea then had a marg to reward myself! The food here is always tasty and fresh. The drinks are also very tasty.

Yelp
Came in today for lunch. We ordered nachos, margaritas, and topped it off with lava cake for dessert. Our server was Paulette, and her service was outstanding. She ensured we had everything we needed from beginning til end. Not one time did we have to look for her when we needed something or had a question as she was that attentive. Best customer service at a restaurant that I've had in a while. Thank you! 11/10. Side note -- their chips are amazing! They taste like they're freshly made. The sauces are amazing as well. There's a good amount of choices, whether you're into super spicy, or prefer something more subtle.

Yelp
Came in for the first time since the remodel. The place looks super nice and has a bar in the corner, so it's now a better place for dinner and some drinks! We ordered the queso fundido and one taco each. The queso was alright. It's mostly just mozzarella cheese, so it largely tasted like a melted cheese stick. I thought it was pretty underwhelming for the price. I got one pastor taco. The meat was a bit tough and super oily, but had little flavor outside of that. They offer 4 salsas. The mild tomatillo is the best--very flavorful and goes well with their chicken!

Yelp
So I came here a few times before and the food is always on point and very consistent. I came here the other day specifically for the Birria Ramen and it was super good! My usual place I get Birria ramen at was closed but I found a new favorite place! The restaurant is small but very good vibes! The service was great as well, shoutout Elias for the good service! Will be back soon 10/10

Yelp
Wow. Amazing little place with fantastic prices and a fun atmosphere. Great service & flavors! You get free sides with tacos and their salsas are on fire!

Yelp
this place is actually so good! best tacos i've had in the east bay. this is a sit down restaurant, not a taqueria & they charge 2.2% for all credit card transactions. I ordered chicken tacos and they were great! they have 4 different sauces on the table. The orange is the spiciest and you seriously can't be doing more than a few drops of it (which i love lol). i also ordered churros that comes with a chocolate & caramel dipping sauces & a side of vanilla bean ice cream. i'd definitely come back!!

Jason H.

Yelp
I was kind of skeptical to try this place just because the outside of the restaurant didn't look like much. It didn't help that there was some sort of lingerie shop next door as well. Thankfully once I walked in, it looked more lively and like a real Mexican restaurant. I got the super birria quesadilla and it was delicious. The shredded beef was really tender and I loved the gooey melted cheese. The broth was rich and the tortilla provided a slight crisp with every bite. It would have been really flavorful if they added some spice but since it was a hot day, I'm glad it wasn't spicy at all otherwise I might have worked up a sweat eating it. Service was great. The staff was friendly and nice. I'm not sure what happened to my server but she never came back to my table after she brought me my food. I just wanted a refill of water and good thing there was a guy who stepped in and got that for me. I loved that they had chopped vegetables in their salsa which tasted really fresh and authentic. It was delicious with their crunchy tortilla chips. This was a small location with limited seating inside. They did have a small bar but no big screen TV if you wanted to watch a game. The parking lot was narrow and you needed to be careful that you didn't end up backing up into the building or other cars trying to get in.

Norma H.

Yelp
Very good chicharrón! Highly recommend it with their red salsa. Red salsa is spicy but very good. Only bad thing is the place is very small.

Yelp
Monday night date to tacos EL Patrón! beautiful place with a cute / cozy inside including booths or be wild and sit at the bar, wherever you like! service is warm and authentic here..especially when they kick it off with fresh chips and 4 mini bottles of hot sauce, house made from mild to hot!! (We fell in love with orange one, moi Rico!) Food: We got the street tacos (2 veggie, 2 chicken) these are $4.50/ea and come with a house made corn tortilla which melts In your mouth and you get 1 free side per taco. (We chose nopales and fresh radish!) The tacos were Presented beautifully, authentic, hot, and made to order. The flavors were really good and unique for both the chicken and the veggie. Poppin in yumminess and hittin all the taste buds! House made horchata: cool down from the hot sauce with this timeless classic, yummy and creamy and Tacos Patrón does it just right. Lastly, we were too full from our tacos and chips but the dessert menu looked dank.. you can get fresh made mini churros with vanilla ice cream and coffee or a coffee flan! Who else has that?! No one. Muchos gracias - we're coming back!

Yelp
So after coming to this spot a few times they officially passed the consistency test. Let's get into it. The Norteno is top tier. Tender steak, sweet pepper, and doused in heavenly queso. This taco is my favorite taco by far in the Bay Area. Next the Taco Patrón, filled with shrimp alll rolled up in a blanket of the same cheese! With a side of guacamole! Delicious. The stunner had to be the gah dam quesabirria grilled cheese bites. 10/10 super unique, tender, cheesy, and the consume is bold and smoky! I see why this place got the good reviews. One of my favorite spots for Tacos!!
google avatar

Amy Z.

Yelp
I went this spot for a work lunch as we were told this is one of the best Mexican spots. And indeed it was! Don't like the outside fool you, these were some of the best tacos I've had. These were about $6 each and super loaded. The taco patron had these delicious shrimp and layer of cheese. The Vampiro was loaded with meat and guac. The chips and salsa also came with these 4 sauces of varying levels of spicy. We came a bit after 1pm and they were a full house. We waited about 10 mins for a table. I would definitely come back. Staff were super friendly and there is a handful of parking spots outside.

Yelp
It has been a while since we have been back to Tacos El Patron, but things are still fantastic. I definitely wanted a birria taco with cheese, but I saw a sign for birria tamales and had to have one of those as well. Oh boy, that is the right connection - birria meat in a tamale and consomme for dipping. I may never look at tamales the same again! We also had the shrimp quesadilla - loaded with shrimp, although more like bay shrimp based on their size. Service here is still a high point - efficient and friendly. I still cannot believe how useful it is to get their four sauces in small squeeze bottles. No wasted sauce and easy to distribute the sauce on each chip or other bite of food. I now have to look at getting some of those small bottles for use at home.

Yelp
Have been going to Tacos El Patron since their outdoor seating was just a tent in their parking lot! So happy to see it as a full sit down restaurant now. Love to come here for their $1 off Taco Tuesdays - I always get their fish tacos and of course the famous birria tacos. Their super burritos are delicious as well especially with their complimentary salsas!
google avatar

Larry M.

Yelp
Everything here is top notch, wish there was more seating... but guess it's good there isn't, it can only get so crowded The Alambres plate is fantastic, if you're hungry... the Al pastor, asada, lengua are all excellent
google avatar

Phil N.

Yelp
I love this place. They have done a nice job expanding it from a small stand to a sit down restaurant with a full bar. This place is about the tacos, get them. Service is fine but it's not a white table cloth joint. Homespun feel Great value
google avatar

Jim A.

Yelp
I came here for lunch with some friends. Based on all the reviews I ordered the Birria Tacos. I thought they tasted really good. They packed a lot of meat into the tacos, so two tacos will probably fill your up. We sat for a long time and talked and were never pressured to leave to open up our table to people waiting. There was a line outside when we left so be prepared to wait for a table.

Yelp
Tacos El Patron has always been great but recently did a remodel and now has a bar with delicious infused tequila margaritas and one of my favs - birria ramen! So great especially on a cold day

Yelp
If you're looking for an unforgettable Mexican dining experience, this newly renovated gem is a must-visit! The minute you walk in you se the restaurant is full! They have a great bar area with a FULL bar! Specializing in all sorts of food we always come here for the Birria, they serve it in nearly every form imaginable!!! From the classic tacos to indulgent tortas and even birria ramen. The flavors are rich, with that perfect slow-cooked savoriness that birria lovers crave. The tacos are crispy, generously stuffed, and served with a side of consommé that's just bursting with flavor. The renovations added a sleek full bar that brings the vibe up a notch. The bartenders are skilled, offering a solid lineup of cocktails that pair perfectly with the bold flavors of birria. Whether you want a margarita with a twist or a classic Mexican cocktail, the bar has you covered. We ordered the prickly pear margarita and the Paloma and both were delicious and strong! The atmosphere is new, cool and lively, with a modern touch post-renovation that makes it feel fresh and like a sit down restaurant. After the renovation they got rid of their outside seating which was kind of nice! The service is friendly and knowledgeable, with servers who know the menu inside and out and can guide you through the options if you're new to birria or want to try something new. If you're in the mood for comfort food with bold flavors and a fun, casual setting, this spot has it all. Man all the sauces they have are so good, there are four different kind all ranging in heat intensity!
google avatar

Tara L.

Yelp
This place has the BEST birria tacos!! They also have a taco called the El Patron which is shrimp, melted cheese, pico & guac.....get it, You won't be sorry! Also tried the carnitas flautas which are covered in an amazing salsa verde, shredded lettuce & cotija cheese. I promise the pics don't do them justice, I'm sure they are plated nicely but the place was PACKED (as it should be) so I took it all to go. Love this place & SO happy there's indoor seating now.
google avatar

Yelp
Best tacos, burritos, Birria hands down! Every time I go I'm never disappointed by how delicious everything is! They are always quick with service and the food is always fresh! It's a nice cute place to grab a bite or take home to go! Never disappoints!

Yelp
We were hungry and looking for breakfast! Came across this place in Concord, and boy I'm glad we stumbled upon this cute little restaurant. They have amazing breakfast burritos and tacos with cute little salsas! They serve unlimited chips and salsa. The staff are super friendly and food came out fast! Probably our go to breakfast burritos spot!

Yelp
Food is pretty good! I know they got big based on social media but I got wind of it through someone at the gym. Service is pretty fast and the ambiance is a bit small but really clean. They're known for their birrira (I probably misspelled that, my apologies) so get birrira kink on and go for it! The price is a bit expensive though but YOU DO get a lot for your money. We got a shrimp burrito (not their specialty) and a quesabirrira. I really enjoyed the quesabirrira but the shrimp burrito was ok, just a couple of small shrimps mixed with rice and beans and salsa. Overall its pretty good though and I would recommend this place to friends.
google avatar

Destiny R.

Yelp
Me and my man used to come here when they were only take out for the most part, to our surprise they renovated and now have dine in experience. We come here for the birria tacos and reg street tacos, those were BOMB and flavorful as usual. We branched out and tried the birria tamale and it took me back to when my grandma used to make them every Christmas (she passed a year ago). They aren't exactly like hers but such a close second! Food came out less than 10 mins later and all the salsas + pico were great. They deserve this renovation 100%.

Yelp
Great customer service!!!! Veggie burrito was full of flavors.. the birria taco super delicious a must have when you are here. Highly recommended this place

Yelp
SUNDAY LUNCH: MEAT NOT SKIMPY Around early October on a Sunday I picked up my sister along with her daughters from SFO as they came back from Northeast for vacation. She took me out to lunch where we ended up eating at Tacos El Patron. This taco joint is very small located in a tight parking spot. She said this place is popular with the locals. I looked at the Taco Especiales section of the menu. The two tacos that stood out were the patron and birria. On the Street Tacos section I ordered the cabeza. I came thinking the tacos served at Tacos El Patron will be the usual small tacos at other places that are not only skimpy with the meat portions. but also with the flavors. I couldn't be farther from the truth with the tacos served here. Even though the tacos were small in size the meat portion was not. The prime example is the patron as there was a lot of shrimp packed into the small tortilla. Yet shrimp can taste too watery, but not the shrimp I ate at Tacos El Patron. Most the quesabirria tacos I've eaten there is more cheese than meat. At Tacos El Patron the birria emphasized more meat than cheese. The birria taco at Tacos El Patron still had that crunchy tortilla similar to a quesabirria. My favorite taco of the three I ordered was the cabeza. There was a big portion of the fatty head yet the richness of the cabeza was balanced with the raw onions and cilantro. If I had just ordered three cabeza tacos from Taco El Patron I would have been more than satisfied. My first visit to Tacos El Patron I was impressed. Now I see why locals love this place. Because of the portion of the meat you can get a filling meal with these small tacos at Tacos El Patron. Yet you won't feel queasy after eaten them. I can see myself coming back to Tacos El Patron. If I do come back I will still order the cabeza, but I will try other tacos such as the pork belly, lengua, and tripa.

Yelp
Went here for dinner after a workout and loved the options available on the menu. There's a good number of indoor dining tables to accommodate patrons though the parking spaces are limited. We tried a few of the special tacos and street tacos. They are flavorful and the meats are cooked well. Also took home an horchata and it's pretty sweet but hit the spot

Yelp
Don't go here it's awful... I am just saying that so it doesn't get too crowded and popular. Love this place. My wife and I sit at the bar, have a few drinks and smash excellent food...

Yelp
Best Birria tacos in Contra Costa County! I came here for lunch around 1:30pm on a Wednesday. There was plenty of parking and I got seated immediately. Service was attentive, and chips and salsa were served quickly after I sat down. I ordered 3 tacos - 2 Birria tacos with cheese, and 1 Taco Patron. Highly recommend both. The free side of grilled onions were good too. I got full off of 2 tacos and took one home. I also ordered a Watermelon agua Fresca, which was delicious! I also appreciated the air conditioning, and good music playing.

Yelp
Amazing! My friend and I are big taco fans and we've done a lot of research in Oakland and found some amazing taco trucks there! When I moved to Concord, I decided to give the tacos here a shot. To sum it up, their tacos are amazing! Things we got: Lengua tacos - this was the most tender lengua meat I've ever had Tripa tacos (tripe) - ok, so my friend and I had a big ol' debate about these because our favorite place in Oakland introduced us to tripa tacos and I've never found anything as good as those. Until now. My friend felt these were a close second to the Oakland version, where-as I thought they were slightly better. Regardless, high compliments. Beef birria taco was amazing! Absolutely amazing. Shrimp taco was really good too and so full of shrimp! Pork belly taco - this one was not great and I would pass on it. The watermelon agua Fresca was also good. Overall, really nice low key joint, lovely service and amazing food!

Yelp
First time dining at Tacos El Patron and certainly not the last! We were a party of nine and service was outstanding. Every dish was terrific and everyone enjoyed. Prices are very reasonable especially for the quality. Can't wait to return.

Yelp
Was told to come to this little hole in the wall Mexican spot. When you walk through the door that's the last thing that comes to mind. It's a cute nice modern vibe. Sebastian our bartender & waiter and salesman was fantastic. Even the funny Tito who bussed our plates was a pleasure. We had a little of everything and it was fantastic except for the guacamole which was mid. Needs to be made fresh per order. And what's up with the queso "cheese dip". That's should be immediately removed. Def order queso fundido with pork belly and top with salsa of choice , fish tacos, norteño and chile verde. The fresh fruit margaritas grilled pineapple and mango. Yum!!!!! Just go!

Yelp
We've been coming to this place since 2021. A lot has changed for the better and I'm glad to see their business expand. They now have indoor dine-in vs the outside tents from previous times, so definitely much more comfortable. Good quality and serving size are still on par with their amazing reputation. Service was quick and very efficient. Make sure to try their birria tacos as they're a must try! Extra sauces are available - some avocado cream (mild), salsa verde, salsa roja, and I think the last one might be habanero (extra spicy accdg to friends). 2+ tacos also come with your pick of 2 sides (e.g. radish, cacti/nopales, grilled onions, or frijoles - so take your pick). Lastly, unlimited chips and salsa with your dine-in order! We also tried their churros with ice cream (as pictured). It came with both caramel and chocolate sauce. 10/10 as well! Pro-tip: we've deduced that 2 birria tacos are the perfect serving size for an average person. So I almost always order an extra for to-go! Most of the time, me and my friends just drive here to enjoy the food and serve as a meet up place since we don't live around the area. If you're still in doubt, just look at all the reviews raving about their food! P.s. didn't get a chance to take a photo of our tacos since I inhaled them as soon as it arrived at our table.

Yelp
This is an update, and more an attempt to convey information to management than a review. I'm going to maintain my 5-star review, even though my most recent visit wasn't 5-star. I first tried Tacos El Patron 4 months ago, and I've been back for lunch several times, and had carryout a few times. It's always great. This was my first late afternoon happy hour visit. I arrived at 455 and it was almost empty. I wish management would add some information to the website ... the only reason I knew about happy hour was some old pictures here on yelp... one picture is a sign saying happy hour is half-off margaritas. I dont think my server is a server, I suspect she's management. She was friendly, took my order and explained happy hour works out to about $3 off on a drink. I ordered my food. As 5pm arrived, one after another staff member walked in, greeting her, etc - I recognized some from previous visits. My food arrived so fast, I dont think it took 5 minutes. The queso birria taco was fantastic as always, good frijoles, nopas, Chips & salsa. On my very first visit, my fish was cold in the taco. I asked if it was supposed to be on the next visit, and was told no - fish has been served very hot all visits since. Except this visit, as it was slightly cold again. I really should send it back when it happens .. it's still edible and tasty but less satisfying, and I don't want to make a fuss in the restaurant. My margarita was very good - $9 for happy hour. I was done by 515 or 520. The place was getting busier. I couldn't get my server's attention for the bill - I saw her behind the bar, and she appeared to be doing some bookkeeping, which is why I think she's probably management. I got my bill from another server and paid, no problem. Everyone there is very friendly and helpful. I don't think I'd go back alone for happy hour again. This is just me, when I go other places at happy hour, I can sit and relax a while... tacos El Patron really isn't set up for slow dining. No complaint ... I'll keep going back for lunch. And carryout, and I'd go for happy hour or dinner with friends. So not a review, really, but, in addition to restating I really like the place, two comments for management 1) what's up with inconsistent temperature on fish tacos? and 2) maybe enhance the business hours section on your website to include info about happy hour - you might get a little more business in the afternoon.

Yelp
We used to live in Concord and thought we had tried every taco spot in town, so we have no idea how long this place has been here--but I wish we had known about it sooner! This little hole-in-the-wall is fantastic. The tacos are packed with flavor, and the variety of salsas is impressive--each one had a unique taste, I particularly love the habanero flavor one and we couldn't get enough of them. The prices are reasonable, and to top it off, there's a parking lot on the side, which is always a plus. The service was friendly and quick, making the whole experience even better.

Yelp
One of the best Mexican restaurants in the bay. Especially for tacos. Super burrito is solid too Lengua super burrito $13.75 - good, not the best I had, but I have very high standards for super burritos since that's my go to at taquerias. Ingredients were well balanced. It isn't written, but guacamole is included. Good size Birria taco with cheese $4.95+1, fish taco $4.95, taco patron $5.95 - all were very good, big size, and loaded with ingredients. I did find the shrimps a bit unusual as they were small and pink rather than the usual white shrimp/prawns used at most places. Still tasty though. It was nice that consome was included even for my single birria taco Also comes with complimentary guacamole, pico, and small container of refried beans Order at the cashier then they will bring the food to you. Limited amount of parking in their small parking lot, but plenty on the streets

Yelp
I came in today for some tacos and to check out the new remodel. The new restaurant interior looks absolutely amazing! They bumped out the restaurant to be much larger and the interior is fresh and modern. Not to mention the bathrooms were well stocked, clean, and had a good sized changing table. They were also playing tiny desk concerts for music, which I loved. Now onto the food. We obviously started out with the bottomless chips and salsa, which were served to us fresh and warm. We decided to order some guac with them as well which was perfectly creamy and delicious. We also got some drinks; my mom got the mango margarita, I got the prickly pear lemonade, and my dad got the agua fresca. All of them were refreshing and super duper fresh with real fruit inside. For entrees, we basically got every taco on the menu and they were all excellent. I have to mention that the staff were all so kind and attentive, and were able to give great insight on everything on the menu. This is definitely one of the best taco spots around and I highly recommend checking this place out!

Yelp
7.22.2024 + 7.29.2024 - Monday ritual with my gals after hiking. Have you ever hiked at the Lafayette Reservoir, especially through the Heart Attack Hill? Well, if you did, then you'll know that hiking trail will kick your butt! If you haven't, you ought to try! What could possibly be the best way to comfort our post hike pain? Food + Alcohol!!!! After reading some of the reviews, Tacos El Patron makes their own tortillas. And apparently, it's family owned. Once you step foot into the restaurant, you definitely feel the family-like atmosphere. Service is great, food is great and their margaritas are excellent. Super heavy handed with their tequila pours with very exotic flavors. Each sip, the margaritas tasted stronger and stronger. They don't be playing around and are very generous! This place is the first spot where I've tried Tripa (beef tripe) tacos. You can get it original or crispy. They prepare this so well because usually, intestines or any organ meat comes with a weird taste if not seasoned well. Tacos El Patron know what they're doing. Their carne asada are also very well seasoned. I love how they cube the beef rather than thinly dicing them. If you order 2 or more tacos, you can choose any 2 complimentary sides. (1) Nopales (2) Grilled onions (3) Frijoles (4) Radish On our last visit, on of my gf brought crickets from Mexico for us to try and she was so generous to offer it to the entire restaurant staff too. They loved it! My girl brought a taste of home to them. After offering more to the owner, I was hoping he would eat it, but he made guacamole and added the crickets and served it to us. Alberto is his name. So nice, funny and kind! It was a back-and-forth giving spirit, a rare family-like meal with strangers. We already have plans to come back next Monday after our hiking shenanigans. We truly found a gem, where service meets food and alcohol to create such a harmonious dining experience. Gracias Alberto and staff! We can't wait for Monday to come.
