I had my lunch today in this restaurant, clean place. Food is okay. I enjoyed it thank you guys..

Authentic Mexican! I had the Super Tacos 🌮…you only need 2. Taste like I was back in California for meal. I’ll definitely be back. And learn a little Spanish while you’re there, it’s called consideration. 🥰

I ordered some tacos al pastor with some guacamole on each of them. I paid extra for that but what they sold me was messy. They put guacamole wherever they want and that isn’t what I expect from them. I don’t recommend that place and do not order for to go..

She barely showed up asking if we needed water or any spoons, plate or anything. Worst part was when it came time to pay the waitress crossed out tip options and told me I was obligated to leave the tip option she had put, this was the first time I ever heard of this from any restaurant. It was my first experience here and last honestly.

Ordered the enchiladas mixtos & the girlfriend got some tacos and a mole tamale. The enchiladas were one of the better ones I’ve had in NYC. I prefer roja over verde, and I felt like the flavor was perfect. The meat inside was also great too. I tried one bite of the tacos and tamale too. The Al pastor was the best, carnitas was also good. The fish taco, unphoto’d, was not good. It’s just a broiled salmon taco. Will come back again and try one of their main platter dishes soon. We first tried to come here on a weekend evening and it was completely packed, with an abuelo playing a guitar and singing, 🔥. Weekday evenings are pretty mellow for finding a table.

The food is your typical authentic Mexican food but I can’t complain because the dishes are large portions. We came to this place to see if it had improved from years ago when I went with my mother and it did honestly the service is now and attentive. I ordered grilled chicken with rice and beans and a salad and it was appetizing.

Affordable great food it's an easy choice for a satisfying meal!! Service is on it very friendly too.

The chilaquiles and vegetarian burrito were amazing. Lots of options to choose from and all of the food was great. The frozen margaritas are super affordable but tasted like margarita mix.

I absolutely love Tacos Matamoros! It's become one of my go-to Mexican restaurants, especially after a night out. The food is consistently on point, and I can't get enough of their carnitas tacos--definitely a 10/10! The $30 pitcher of margaritas is also a fantastic deal. There have been a few times when certain menu items weren't available, especially on holidays and weekends, but it hasn't taken away from the overall experience. This place is still a top choice for delicious food and a great atmosphere. Highly recommend!

Was on the hunt for some Mexican food and this popped up. When we entered, the restaurant was a bit dark and the waitress was speaking in Spanish to us. We ordered a burrito and the Texan nachos to share among three people. But honestly, the nachos could've fed us all as it was HUGE. The chips were a bit stale which ruined the nachos, but it was still tasty. The burrito was served on a plate.

I love Matamoros! We got the shrimp nachos, 3 small tacos -- carne asada, chicken, and Al pastor with a side of chips and guac. Wifey got an Al pastor burrito. All soo good and cheap! I think that's what makes this place great. Great prices , great quality food. Hole in the kinda vibe -- great authentic Mexican. 10/10 would recommend. $5 coronas and $6.5 margaritas too.

Food is the best in the neighborhood. Service is much much better now. Place gets really busy at times so be prepared to wait a few. Definitely worth the wait

I visited with my family. Upon arrival, there was a line and a 20-25 minute wait. The host that hand wrights your names on a pad in order of arrival said it woube a 10 to 15 minute wait. I guess at the time we arrived is popular timing. Our waitress was cordial, not too talkative or informative, but she was professional. The service was decent. We really enjoyed most orlur food with the exception of the green tamale. It was dry and like over heated but it did have good flavor. I would return to have other authentic Mexican dishes.

This review is for their delivery orders, ordered dinner tonight and ordered 2 sides of rice and beans and decided to forgo the beans little did I know they would forgo half the rice too. (I was not expecting more rice for less beans... I was just expecting no beans and same amount of rice) Instead of the black container that it usually comes in they packed it in the tiny white boxes and it came hard like there were balls of rock hard rice like it's been there for a minute and it was less than half empty I've never had this experience before when ordering from here, they also forgot my carne asada taco. Probably my last time ordering takeout delivery and tip wasn't cheap for stale rice and missing tacos.

Food is good. Authentic Mexican food, Servers mostly speaks Spanish only. Place gets crowded easily and they have good selections on their menu. 3 stars only because I saw roaches running around and it seems very common to the servers ... ‍

I love this place. 1) food- always on time and delicious. 2) service- friendly staff and they're always attentive even when it's busy! 3) it's so culturally decorative. The paintings are so nice. To anyone that thinks this place is expensive, please go to park slope and then compare it to this place. To anyone that thinks this place lacks communication (language barrier)-- okay what do you expect we're in sunset park? Don't complain cause you can't speak Spanish. Be patient with the staff. It's not their fault management won't staff up. Times are tough. Cook at home if you're not patient enough.

The food was good no complains. It was definitely a lot of food like this place give you stuff to fill up the table and piled high. Ordering can get alittle difficult if spanish is non existent, but it can be worked around. The place gets super packed at dinner time and the ambiance is definitely alittle hectic but hey that's place is bustling with people so you know it's good. The taste is good and the portions are ginormous so you know you get your moneys worth with tasty food. It's going to get real messy, so caution for the white t shirt cause they got sauce on top of sauces. What can go wrong with them rice and beans, and meat like straight up can't mess that combo up. Definitely would go back when craving for some Mexican food cause this place is fire

Awesome drinks! $5.75 for frozen margaritas and $6.50 for mojito! There were also various live singers all throughout the night! Really festive environment!

The service was quick and attentive. Cute decor inside and many tables. We came on a Saturday around 1PM and there was no wait. The tacos are super affordable and delicious! I got 2 large tacos - carnitas and pollo asado (each $3.50) and they were filling!

No tacos will taste as heavenly as Los Tacos, but these still satisfy! With only an 2018 menu to base off of, my brother and I blindly bought 8 large tacos. We ordered the Al Pastor, Pollo Asado, Suadero, and Carne Asada, which luckily only came down to around $28, which isn't too bad! The tacos came warm, safely wrapped with no mess. The green and red sauces were super liquidy unfortunately. The tortillas were also on the dry side. But taste wise, they had that taco taste we so crave: saucy, tangy, with that kick of cilantro and onion taste. The Carne Asada and Pollo Asado came with guac, which you know, makes everything taste better. Each box also came with some onions(?), that had a texture and blandness of a peach, and added that fun crunch element to eating tacos. Overall, decent place! I was also eyeing those delicious looking quesadillas off their 2018 menu, so I can't wait to go back for those!

I came here for dinner on a Wednesday night. The place was packed even on a cold Wednesday night so the place is definitely popular. We ordered the mixed ceviche tostada, carne asada tostada, and the pork chops with salsa verde. The pork chops came with rice, beans, and tortillas. The portions were large and the prices were decent. I really liked the carne asada tostada. The tostada was crunchy and there was a lot of toppings. The pork chops were a bit dry but there was a lot of salsa verde. I really like their salsa verde since it was actually spicy and not too watery. Service was okay, our waitress only spoke Spanish which I definitely to brush up on since I only know food terms in Spanish. I would come back, hopefully with better Spanish since I have Duolingo on my phone.

This place is awesome. Thier food is fresh and very tasty. The service is friendly and warm. Very affordable. We ordered the Carne Asada platter with some flautas. The food was delicious and tasty. The restaurant atmosphere is pleasant and the music played is authentic Mexican mariachi. The restrooms are.very clean. The restaurant also has an A rating from the NYC Health Department. I am very satisfied and will highly recommend this place. I will definitely come again.

If you order nachos this is what you will get!! This doesn't even look like nachos and for $10!! Nope!

Food is usually good but no one speaks English and they always screw the order up. Place looks like a typical Mexican spot with all the cultural decorative nuances you'd expect. If you can get past the all the communication barriers and obstacles, food is decent.

This is my go-to place for dinner :) The atmosphere is casual, but it's still a sit-down place. It's nice for a chill date night or an easy meal with family/friends. It can get busy, which can make service slower sometimes, but it's worth the wait! The food is super good for the price. I haven't gotten bored of this place even though I've been so many times because the menu has a wide variety of options. Also, the cocktails are super affordable and good! Definitely recommend

Decent food. I ordered mole con pollo which came with a side of rice and beans. The rice and beans were delicious the mole itself was okay, I finished the whole thing so it wasn't bad. Service was pretty fast and friendly. The only thing I was very weirded out about was there were no tortillas with the mole and I was only provided a fork and no knife.

Delicious burritos!! My family loves ordering from this place. I live in neighborhood. Sometimes we walk and get our burritos or just have them delivered. I love their shrimp and Carme asada burritos. Recommend to everyone!! David V

el lugar no estaba mal siempre he ido ahí pero ahora resulta que los meseros dicen que la propina que uno les deja no les alcanza para nada vomo que fuera exigido dejarles una gran cantidad bien dicen que la propina es voluntaria al parecer el restaurante los les paga un salario ya que lo que uno les deja para ellos no es nada mal servicio y no volvería a llegar nunca más a ese restaurante

Matamoros is very popular and has descent service but that did not help the taste of the food and drinks. Drinks were extremely weak. I had Pina colada and a margarita and the the alcohol was so weak and extremely sweet. The guacamole for $7 was very weak. Portions were tiny and they gave a lot of chips for a tiny amount of guacamole. Molcajete $24 has pieces of steak, cactus. sausage, cheese, pork, chicken and shrimp in ranchero sauce-comes with rice and beans. Sounds good right? but it turned out to be a dub, with small portions. It also come with tortillas. I also ordered a bunch of tacos cost about $2 but it was underwhelming as el bronco taste a lot better.

The food is really good , the problem I have with them is .. every time I order delivery they always forget something .. my order never comes complete . Service is not good !!!

Tacos Matamoros OVERALL: 7.1/10 The food is alright. It used to be better, but I feel like it's going on a down hill so don't expect it to be good when you go. FOOD: 7.1/10 I got the chuletas with the green sauce. It was good. It was my first time having such a authentic dish. But I definitely did finish the plate. I been here many times, mainly eating tacos, burritos and stuff like that. Those are alright too. The steak in the picture I didn't have so can't comment. SERVICE: 10/10 Service was typical. I met my lady here on a Tuesday around 5pm since she works a few blocks away. After reading a glowing review from Peter D, I figured we couldn't lose. Service was pretty good. We didn't have 1 person, but it seemed like whoever was available came over to take our order, clear plates, deliver food and pick up the check. This way often seems much better since someone is always walking around so you never have to wait more than a few seconds to get whatever you need. We ordered some nachos for an appetizer. They were hot, very crispy and dripping with cheese, guacamole & chicken. A great start to the meal. For dinner I ordered beef fajitas which was super filling. A ton of veggies, meat and about 5 or 6 tortillas. It also came with a side of rice, refried beans, pico and guacamole. My date got 2 tacos (carne asada and chicken). They were HUGE and had so much creamy guacamole slathered on top. You just can't lose with that much guacamole. Overall, the meal was filling, hot and very tasty. I'd definitely go back. The only 2 small less than perfect things I noticed was: 1. There were a lot (about 1/4 of the meat) of chicken pieces in my beef fajitas. Don't get me wrong, it tasted great, but if I'm paying extra for beef, I expect to get all beef. 2. The meat & vegetables on the fajitas were super oily. Again, still yummy, but no one wants oil dropping from their meal.

I have no complaints, considerate staff, great food, cheap drinks. Cocktails are $5.50-$7.50, beer is $5, food is reasonably priced and portions are generous. Quesadilla was $8 small tacos start at $2, large at $3, entrees aren't expensive either I just had a bunch of apps. I took some great pictures. I loved the ceviche with oysters, sorry but cant remember the name but there is only the 1. offset for us non Spanish speaking, most staff don't speak english WELL but not anything to worry about because they brought over staff that could help.

It pains my nimble little fingers to do this, but I have to keep it 100 for all of the good people out there relying on Yelp for their important choices in life. Tacos Matamoros has always been my go-to, quick, and all-around favourite taco spot in NYC, but it's just not what it used to be. I've been a happy patron for the better part of my adult life, but my recent order was underwhelming and unlike any experience I've ever had with them. I ordered 6 small Al pastor tacos and a small seafood ceviche for takeout. When I got home, I was shocked to see what was NOT there. I was expecting an aluminum foil abundance of limes and radishes as per usual, and the classic green and red-brown salsas, but to my dismay I was given 3 like wedges and only the spicier red-brown salsa. I tried not to let that sour my dinner, but when I opened the Styrofoam boxes, I realised that they cut corners there too. The, once crispy, perfectly seasoned pork meat was replaced by a characterless soggy facsimile that was not as flavourless as their past tacos. I'm really disappointed in how this most recent experience went, but I hope it was an anomaly. I will try them again after I recover from this disappointing experience, and will provide another update after. I guess it's time for me to move on. Tl;dr - it's gotten Meh.

Came in for lunch in this horrible heat. You have to wait to be seated but it was literally a two minute wait. We were given menus right away. They're thankfully was enough air conditioning to make this place feel cool. We ordered guacamole and chips, Bistec encebollado and mixed fajitas. They came very quickly with our beverages and appetizers which is always a good start. I'm glad appetizers didn't come out at same time as meal. The guacamole could've been bigger as it was in a small bowel about 4 oz. Next came the main courses. The mixed fajitas came with mixed vegetables, shrimp, beef and chicken sizzling on a fajita plate. The smell was so good, I almost ate my dates food. The sides were yellow rice and refried beans which were seasoned well. The bistec encebollado also came with rice and beans. I ate every bite of that steak as it was tasty and wasn't over powered with the onions. The wait staff was attentive and we will be coming back here. Well priced and good food.

Honestly the worst. So expensive and the amount of food isnt so great. Used to be the best. I had order two order of chicken nuggets with french fries. They gave a poor amount and suggest it was because they was too busy. Never again !!!!

This place was recommended by a friend whom had been there many times with her Mexican co-workers. So gave it a try. Very nice comfortable atmosphere and always music playing but not loud. We sat and offered nacho chips and dips. Was good chips. The grilled pork chops rice and beans were good and tender. Chicken and pork tacos were really good. Definitely order their rancheros guacamole. So good and big portion. We ordered virgin pina colada and mango margarita. Both were really good. We enjoyed our dinner and food was good. Not much service as I didn't remember any one came back to ask how we were. But definitely recommended to try. I would go back.

Let me put ya'll on. This is one of the best taco place in this neighborhood. I live 1 block from this place and I pass by everyday when I go to the train. There's always people eating in there, no matter if its 10am, 1pm or 8pm. That's how you know its good. I always get the lengua and cabeza taco. My BF gets the steak taco and my sister gets the vegetarian taco. All of them are on point. You can't go wrong with the tacos here. Can't speak for the other items on the menu but I'm sure it's just as amazing! The only thing I wish is that guac isn't extra LOL. For some tacos like the steak, guac is included but not all. I also noticed some reviews about how the food has gone downhill and they are cutting corners. Yeah yeah, this neighborhood is getting gentrified. They either have to raise the prices up or cut corners. It is what it is.

Disappointed Pros: 1. Restaurant looks nice from the outside, but don't be tricked Cons: 1. While you eat, you think : "I could have cooked myself, and it would have been much much better" 2. They charged me $1,50 per extra corn tortilla. $1.50 per corn tortilla!!! Restaurants in the area offers free extra corn tortilla (note, they probably buy tortilla at Key Food next door, where ~100 tortilla are sold for $2). Insulting.

My mother went there to eat with a friend, she also ordered large chorizo tacos to go for me. When I opened the tacos there was barely any chorizo on the taco, it was more tortilla than any else. I will say that when I call they offered to replace the tacos only after I said that I was going to place a bad review of the order online, I decided not to get the replacement tacos since I don't think their food is worth it anymore.

If I could give this 0 stars I would. The food is disgusting. I am currently sitting in their establishment with a plate of old microwaved rice, it smells. My sister ordered a ceviche tostada that was served to her with frozen seafood.. like the seafood was literally frozen on top of a tostada and served to her. My son ordered chicken nuggets that look inedible, they look like they have dar spots. The server walked over and I'm assuming she saw me taking pictures of the bad food, she just put dirty napkins on top of the food that my sister was still working on. When I asked for a to go container I got offered a piece of foil. I won't be coming back here and I don't recommend anyone to come here, you may get sick eating their food.

One of the best family dinner mexican restaurants you can find in nyc! Service is great, food is great, and it's always pretty busy without a wait!

I thought their tacos were okay. Not as flavorful as some other taco places in sunset park, but still good. I had the al pastor taco by the way. Also had the chorizo Mexican cheese fondue. Chorizo was good but the dish itself was a bit salty. They give you some tortillas to eat with the dish. I also had the mango shake which was so good! Cold, refreshing, and slightly sweet. Would recommend the shake but food was just ok.

We stopped into Tacos Matamoros to catch the Mexico-Korea game, and had a nice time, even if the food was average. Most importantly, we were grateful for how accommodating the manager was for making extra space in the main room so we'd have a table to sit, order lunch, and watch the game. He literally went into his back room, grabbed a small table for two, and stuck it in the front room between two other tables, just so we could watch Mexico win and not be alone while watching. It was a fun place to watch the game. Several families--parents coaxing their children while keeping one eye on the game, and many people who had clearly just come to watch. A diverse crowd, & no jerks. Given how nice the atmosphere was, I'd like to be more superlative with the food review, but it was pretty normcore. Guacamole was the highlight; salsas too watery to be of much use; tacos were too dry to get much flavor, so we found ourselves straining lime wedges into them (which did help). Between al pastor, chorizo, and carne asada, definitely go for al pastor. It was the only one where I was really savoring every bite. I doubt I'll be back, but I did appreciate the service!

I don't care about what anyone says about this spot , the food is great !!!! The tacos are amazing and the tortas aswelll. Me and my girl enjoyed the food here . I would definitely recommend. I'm definitely coming back here .

Your drinks are watered down, the "bartender" cant make a "gin and tonic". I ordered steak and it wasnt cooked to temperature. I dont know man, you guys have little going for you past your name. bathroom was clean so i'll give you a star.

Man I wish this place was local to me. It's a spacious, casual Mexican joint with really fresh, delicious food - what's not to love? I do think the portions could be larger- both the guacamole and the huevos chorizo entree were small. The guac is barely enough to split between two people, and the entree is not enough on it's own to fill up one hungry person. Although both were delicious. And their tacos were really out of this world, so if you plan on supplementing your meal with a few you'll leave stuffed. We ordered the shrimp, chorizo, and carnitas tacos. Dressed with either fresh pico de gallo or cilantro and onions, these were some damn good tacos. The carnitas were tender enough to melt in your mouth but not so tender that it becomes a stringy, mushy mass. The chorizo was flavorful without soaking the soft tortilla in grease. Even the table-side salsas were outstanding- particularity the red salsa, it had a hint of smokiness. They also have fresh juice- not cold pressed, just fresh (so there's more texture and foam), and I elected to get a mixture of everything green on the menu and throw it in the juicer.

Came here for Cinco de Mayo and it was a great time. Arrived and got seated right away and it was really busy at the time. It was such a cozy feel and the place was nicely decorated. Ordered the Strawberry and Mango Margarita as well as Piña Colada for drinks. Had a variety of tacos, sausage cheese fondue, melted nachos with chicken, and chips and guac. Staff was friendly and attentive for it being such a busy day for them. Prices are fairly cheap and so were the drinks. Atmosphere was nice and chill with festive music playing. Wish we had time to try a dessert but maybe next time. Overall, it was such a great place to enjoy cinco de mayo!

The inside was large compared to most places in Brooklyn and there was plenty of seating. I ordered jamaican water but none was available so I settled for horchata. I ordered sopes with chicken and red salsa plus a steak burrito. There were 4 sopes with decent size and amount of meat plus cheese (no lettuce or tomatoe) and they were each good. I did not get to eat my burrito as I got full with the sopes, ordered a box to go but forgot the box at the restaurant.... bummer. It was confusing whom my waitress was, as each (3 waitresses) would pass by and asked if I needed something or brought me food/condiments. Normally made eye contact to get one of their attention.

Wow, where have you been all my life Matamoros? As a recent transplant to NY from San Diego, I've been longing for good Mexican food. My housemate told me about this spot and we decided to go together. I got 3 tacos (adobada, carnitas, pollo asada) along with a verde tamale. The meat was tender and flavorful, especially the carnitas. The meal came with a verde and rojo salsa, and I have to say that though it wasn't phenomenal, it definitely did the job. I'm not a huge tamale fan, but the tamale here was pretty moist and tender, overall really tasty. The best part? Tacos were only $1.75 each, while the tamale was $2-something. Quite exceptional for NY standards! Their frequent and polite service was a plus too. Looking forward to coming back to try more things~

There are tacos on the menu, and there are Super Tacos on the menu. I don't know who in their right mind would order a non-super taco given the choice, but at the risk of redundancy, I want to tell you that you need a Super Taco in your life. (Preferably al pastor or chorizo, but it's your choice if you want to get an inferior meat.) In addition to just being Super, these thoroughly stuffed, juicy and flavorful tacos come on a 6" flour tortilla* with quesillo, lettuce, pico de gallo, queso fresco & sour cream. These are all good things, particularly the quesillo, which is apparently just little tiny bits of fried cheese. Tiny bits of fried cheese! These cannot possibly be a bad addition to a taco. I suppose it's not really fair to compare all the other tacos with Super Tacos, but these just might be the best tacos I've had in Brooklyn. _______________ *I don't want to debate the merits of corn vs. flour here. I love a good corn tortilla. But I do want you Corn Only Fanatics to recognize the fact that a bad corn tortilla, with its mealy/cold/unfreshness can ruin a taco utterly. Not so with a flour tortilla.

Cinco de Mayo extended... My friends and I ate here Saturday night and the place was packed. We were immediately seated but it took forever to get served water and to see who our waiter was. After 15 minutes of patiently waiting and we were about to leave, our waitress came by. We knew we wanted a pitcher of margaritas on the rocks and Modelo beers. We told her we wanted the regular nachos and chips with guacamole. Only the chips/guacamole cane, no nachos. One of my friends ordered the chicken fajitas and my other friend ordered 2 vegetarian tacos. I ordered the Super taco with chicken, pico de gallo, sour cream and guacamole. My taco was just ok and after my fourth margarita I needed more food. I ordered cheese enchiladas which were pretty good. It was an off nite for this place( one of my friends has come here for years) We were in the mood for fried ice cream which they ran out of(????) so we decided to go to Rocco's near home. I can highly recommend any style of margaritas. The pitcher was well worth the $24 since in Bay Ridge it would have cost us @$38 or more. They do serve margaritas with Patron tequila. * I wanted to take more pics but my friend doesn't want this place to become too popular

This is my all time favorite Mexican place. I've been eating at Matamoros since 2012. Seriously the best! Best rice and beans, best nachos, best el pastor tacos, best queso fundido, I can go on and on. I've never been disappointed. When friends and family visit from out of town I always take them to Matamoros.

I've been a customer for over ten years and order delivery from them every now and then. In the last delivery orders they messed up my order, when I called them to complain about my order they told me that they were too busy to get my order right and next time they will do a better job. However, I called them today to order a deliver and they told me that they do not deliver to this area (they've been doing it for years) and they never deliver to this area before. The most ridiculous part was that they had my address in their computer system, and when I asked to speak to the manager they hanged up the phone on me. I hope that the management of this place can address this issue, and retrain their employees in order to do THEIR JOB in a professional way.
