The Fast Casual Power Rankings - Washington DC - The Infatuation

"Taïm remains a lunchtime GOAT during the Dupont lunch rush. The food, think Mediterranean Chipotle, is incredibly appealing to look at it though we admit the ordering part can get a little overwhelming since bowls are made-to-order and there are so many proteins (falafel, meatballs, kebabs), vegetables (pickled cabbage, marinated tomatoes, smoked eggplants), and sauces (spicy green chile, harissa, whipped garlic) to choose from. But in all honesty, it’s nearly impossible to make the wrong choice, everything is just that good. " - Omnia Saed

Google
Overall a good place to go and grab a quick bite. I tried the chicken shawarma bowl and picked my own toppings. There’s only indoor seating and it’s open pretty late for the area.

Google
Happy to see that there is still a Taim in the DMV. Stopped off after a cruise through the farmers market and a stop at Un Je Ne Sais Quoi. The staff were friendly and service was relatively quick. The sabich sandwich was delicious and the lemon mint ginger lemonade was refreshing on a hot summer day. Fries were good but could have been crispier. I would definitely recommend the sabich if you like eggplants or an alternative to falafel. Interesting in trying their shawarma on my next visit.

Google
This isn't really a place to linger but the food is excellent and so is the service. It's not cheap but you get a good sized portion of fresh, healthy & very yummy food. And they have a great awards program if you order from them on a regular basis. This is now the go-to place at Dupont for my whole office!

Google
Very fresh and flavorful Mediterranean fast casual spot. Same concept as Chipotle or Bibimbop next door but with falafel, harissa, lemon mint dressing, kebobs, pita, humus, baklava, and more! I made my own pita with a side of fries. The fries were mid. But the wrap with the vegetables was so fresh. I even had harisaa ketchup and lemon mint in the side which made the flavor even better. Service was excellent. Location is excellent. Would recommend for a quick lunch, date spot, or dinner plans.

Google
Loved the food! It’s healthy and tastes really good too.

Google
This is one of my favorite falafel ever. Most restaurants serve frozen brown hockey pucks. Taim has freshly made green falafel. Fresh ingredients that you can add to the classic toppings. My standard green falafel all the way, add hot pickles, chickpeas, pickles. I have eaten at Taim even when it was just a little counter on Spring in NY, was very excited to see it in DC. Still only order my standard order.

Google
Early dinner on a Friday night. Very few people. All you're getting here is a pita sandwich or a Mediterranean bowl. The food was good, not amazing but good. The honey harissa steak was interesting, not really "steak' tasted more like yummy tender pot roast slices to me. I'd come again if it was convenient, but might not seek it out.

Manav Kapadia

Google
Awful service, the lady taking the orders is really rude and unapologetically rude. Plus, there's so many discrepancies with the loyalty program, just don't bother the headache.

Yelp
Great falafel, fun atmosphere, good job, would expect this place to be packed if they knew how good this is

Yelp
Stopped here out of the blue earlier for a mid afternoon lunch. I originally had wanted to eat at Kramer's across the street, but it was packed in there and I wasn't planning on waiting for a table. Taim was more "tame" in comparison and more my speed for a place to eat peacefully and read a book. Their menu is pretty straightforward. You pick a base, a protein and then you can choose your toppings with a sauce. I got a super green plate with chicken shawarma, cucumbers, tomatoes, carrots, picked onions, and picked radish with a topping of harissa (server recommended it if you like spice) and tahini sauce. This also comes with a pita on the side. It didn't take long before my plate came out. It was almost $15 which is a bit pricier for a salad bowl, but the bowl was very filling and much larger than I expected. The food was fresh and all the ingredients blended well together. My only drawback is they didn't have a napkin dispensers on the floor, so I had to ask for napkins and a lot of the tables had crumbs on it. Granted, one of the workers cleaned the tables after I pointed out there being crumbs at the table I wanted to sit at. The store was pretty empty when I walked in, so not sure if maybe there was a rush beforehand, but beside that, good food and I'd recommend.

Yelp
A once-great DC chain that has severely declined in quality. I went here recently with three friends for a weeknight dinner and had massive difficulty ordering with the cashier due to communication challenges. I got the chicken shawarma bowl and was very disappointed. For over $17 with tax, the portion size was small, there was barely any chicken, and the extra spicy sauce that I got had no kick. Additionally, the half pita that came with the bowl was in plastic and ice-cold; I remember when Taim first opened the pitas were hot, fresh, and topped with za'atar. Taim used to be the gold standard for Mediterranean fast-casual chains in DC. It's sad that it is now just an overpriced, lesser Cava or Mezze.

Yelp
Took take out of their Falafel bowl and it was yummy. The sauce tasted good and it was worth the price.

Yelp
We were visiting the ATT store and happened upon Taim. I'm a huge fan of Mediterranean food, so we decided to stop in. I highly recommend the Ginger Mint Lemonade it was sweet and refreshing. I love the options here. You can pick the ingredients for your bowl, pita, or salad. First, you pick a base, I chose hummus and Jasmine rice, then a main ingredient. Falafel was my choice. Then add veggies. I chose the red pepper baba ganoush for a side. It was a dollar extra, but worth it. I do wish they would provide pita bread with the meal. I had a lot of hummus and baba ganoush left and nothing to eat it with.

Yelp
I ordered the special of honey harissa steak bowl! This was my first time coming to Taim, and I really enjoyed the service! The staff were incredibly friendly - much friendlier than I was expecting for ordering from kiosks. For that I'm giving them 4 stars :). As for the food, I ordered a takeaway after joining their membership rewards for 50% off, and I wasn't blown away, but it was decent mediterranean food. Definitely comparable to other mediterranean chains like cava. One thing that really disappointed me was the rice. I think they had given me the bottom of the rice cooker because it was crunchy and dehydrated ):. The honey steak though was really good. Will I go back? Maybe if I'm in the area, but not a place I'm dying to return to. Seriously though, their smiles brought a smile to my face!!

Yelp
I'm sorry but Cava WHO - taim has absolutely defied all my expectations for a fast-casual spot - I am a die hard protein enthusiast but the eggplant and the cauliflower are a must. this eggplant will turn you into an eggplant fan, it's the absolute perfect consistency. it's juicy while staying intact and avoiding a terrifying mush - the cauliflower is SO flavorful. it's decadently crispy without even a twinge of burn. It has even more flavor than the shwarma chicken as just a veggie! - the chicken is always ALWAYS a FAT portion. everywhere loves to skimp on quality ingredients but taim loads on the protein. it's always moist and tender. - I'm usually a greens base girl in all my bowls, but this hummus is worth the full base. i believe it is mixed with tahini because it has this amazing nutty taste. it's soooo smooth (no chickpea ick from a clump) and i eat it with a spoon alone. not too heavy of a base either to make you feel ill - the other toppings all taste so fresh. especially obsessed with the pickles onions, cucumbers, and banana peppers as they bring a sharp salty flavor into the cool savory hummus flavoring

Yelp
Falafel was over cooked. Over fried in oil that had a texture to it. No flavor whatsoever and for $14 for a plate had nothing to it. Wasn't seasoned. Don't waste your money

Yelp
My recent discovery of Taim has actually has me looking forward to going into the office! You can eat here multiple times a week (which I have done) and not get bored. The menu is about as long as a CVS receipt. There are sandwiches, pitas, salad or rice bowls. Don't like rice? There's couscous! Carnivores will love the chicken shawarma, honey harissa steak, or meatballs. Vegging out? There is cauliflower shawarma, meatballs, falafel, roasted eggplant, vegan kabobs. Toppings and dips are endless. Get them all! But especially get the toum which is a whipped garlic sauce that is so potent you may potentially scare away a future lover ... but honestly being at home, watching a rerun of Schitt's Creek with a giant bowl of falafel balanced on your lap is way better than any relationship. Did I mention that fresh cut fries are a topping as well? The touchscreen menus are a bit confusing and the bowls can get pretty pricey at $16 a pop but I'll blame #inflation and not Taim for that. So glad you are in my life

Yelp
I tried to use the app to order food. None of the rewards work if you try to order online. As soon as i tried to apply them to my order they disappeared. It waa super disappointing. Chicken shawarma bowl was delicious. Love the toppings. They add a nice spin to the normal shawarma. I ordered to eggplant with tahini too but it was very oil and not crispy.

Cathy H.

Yelp
VERY delicious Mediterranean food in a nice atmosphere. Consider getting the deep-fried eggplant as a protein; it's fantastic.
google avatar

Anna G.

Yelp
Okay, yum! I got the bowl with hummus and rice, falafel, and all the toppings. The flavors are great! Especially love the pickled cabbage. Service was quick and friendly. Super happy I popped in for a take out dinner.

Yelp
Really fantastic Middle Eastern food that's difficult to find anywhere else. The falafel is fantastic and then they have hard-to-find items like sabich. Great shawarma (chicken and a vegetarian option). Don't sleep on their sides either. Best zaatar pita in town and love their hummus

Yelp
Every visit to NY, Taïm is always on the list of a go to spot. Their green falafel rocks my world. I arrived at my hotel and searched restaurants close by, luckily for me Taïm was in walking distance and not closing for another 30 minutes. Walked over and ordered my standby, green falalel add pickles, hot sauce, chickpeas and pickled onion. It did not disappoint. Amazingly enough, I have been to three locations in NY and the DC was the best one yet! The ladies working were super nice and made my sandwich with amor. Just writing about makes me crave more falafel. Be sure to read the menu and look at the add ons and definitely add their green hot sauce.

Yelp
One of my greatest personal tragedies of 2022 was that the Taim in Georgetown closed its doors. Thankfully, the Dupont location isn't too much further and is able to fulfill my cravings for their absolutely unbeatable bowls. To make things even better, they have such an amazing selection of things that are both vegetarian / vegan AND gluten-free, which can be such a struggle to find. I've been to Taim countless times, so it's hard to even recount all of the different things that I've ordered from them, but you really can't go wrong with anything on their menu. I always make a bowl with half hummus and half leafy super greens (or a mix of super greens and lettuce if I'm in more of a salad mood...but Taim's hummus is so good that it just doesn't feel right to pass it up). All of the vegetarian mains are amazing -- the falafel is fried to crispy and golden perfection, and either packed with the freshness and flavor of my entire herb garden or with the deep umami and light kick of harissa, depending on which type you opt for. Personally, I think a half-and-half blend is the way to go to get to fully experience both flavors, but each one is absolutely delightful on their own. If you've had enough of the chickpeas from the hummus but still want a bit more protein, the impossible kebabs are delicious and super aromatic and flavorful. They're a little bit on the salty end for my taste, but they're still fantastic. And, if you're instead looking for a bit more veg, the cauliflower shawarma and golden eggplant are both perfectly crispy and absolutely packed with flavor. They go perfectly with the tangy mango sauce, which really brightens up the entire bowl. I also love that the golden eggplant comes with a hard-boiled egg, so you're not missing out on your ~protein~. As far as toppings go, you really can't go wrong with any of them. The only one that I might not 100% recommend is the fries, especially if you're getting takeout / delivery -- although they're deliciously crispy and wonderful when they're first made, they don't fare all too well when placed in a bowl with other hot things and then transported across the city. But if you're eating immediately? Absolutely go for it. I'm also a huge sucker for the marinated beets and Moroccan carrots; honestly, if I could just buy a giant container of the Moroccan carrots, I could just eat that with hummus and be 100% satisfied. All of the sauces are tasty, but I do have a special place in my heart for the spicy green chile...it definitely packs a bit of a punch, but it has such a wonderful flavor. Taim will never cease to be one of my favorite spots in DC. There's a seemingly endless number of fast-casual Mediterranean spots across the city, but none of them can hold a candle to Taim. Truly can't recommend them enough!
google avatar

Kitty K.

Yelp
Very fresh and tasty. They had impossible kebob so that is a plus. I really liked all the variety of topping and the pita was well made. This would be a weekly go to if we lived in the area.
google avatar

Lauren W.

Yelp
Easy ordering on a tablet in the front. Super friendly staff that will help place orders as well if needed. Food was extremely fresh and huge portions!! Very much worth the money! I had a salad with chicken shawarma and added cauliflower shawarma, eggplant, and roasted carrots. Everything was well seasoned and very flavorful. Fresh, fast, and easy!
google avatar

Jordan M.

Yelp
I cannot believe that I haven't tried this place before. Foods is absolutely incredible. I did the make your own bowl with a side of Pita. Inside: chicken Shawarma with rice super greens, topped with pickled onions, mango curry, pickles, and a few other veggies. I absolutely loved it, the chicken Shawarma is seasoned really really well. It's a pretty big portion as well. The pita opens up so that you can put the bowl contents inside and eat it like a traditional pita sandwich/ wrap if you want. I'll probably be back this week.!
google avatar

Phoebe D.

Yelp
Great option for takeout in Dupont! I got a pita with chicken shawarma, which was delicious but I think next time I would get a bowl instead as the pita was a bit messy to eat and the ingredients weren't very well distributed. However, I do love how customizable everything is - there's tons of toppings options and they are definitely generous with them, and there's a good number of different sauces as well. The kiosks make everything easy to order but I would suggest ordering online well in advance as they seemed super busy during lunch hours.
google avatar

Kimi Z.

Yelp
If you're looking for a quick, healthy, flavorful meal, this is the place for you!! I was craving cava and on my walk through Dupont I stumbled across Taïm. It's similar to cava in theory- you order a base and "protein" and build your own bowl, but unlike cava the options are healthier, more abundant, and more flavorful! We ordered the eggplant sabich, cauliflower shawarma, and the saffron aioili famous fries. The eggplant was crispy and cooked perfectly, and came topped with an egg, delicious tahini, and toppings of your choice. I recommend getting the Za'atar croutons and the crispy onion/garlic flakes on top. The cauliflower was also crispy with a hint of cumin and other spices, also with toppings of your choice. The fries were the perfect balance of salty, crispy, and soft, and the saffron aioli had a nice saffron flavor without it being too overpowering. As a potato lover, the fries were hands down the best part in my opinion. We loved everything we ordered and will definitely be back to try more of the menu.
google avatar

Nini J.

Yelp
I am not a vegetarian but I do try to eat vegetarian meals at least 5x a week and Taim makes it so easy! Every option is filling, flavorful and healthy. But I like their eggplant and their cauliflower the best. Also, their hummus is so smooth and creamy and their fresh pita is heavenly!
google avatar

Austin G.

Yelp
Taim Dupont Circle is the second location of this NYC-based falafel fast casual restaurant. It's just off the actual Dupont Circle on a strip with many other restaurants and shops close to the Dupont Circle Metro. During the pandemic, Taim is open for a takeout only. I safely walked in for lunch on Monday and didn't have to wait. For under $15, I ordered a green falafel sandwich with french fries in it and a Coca-Cola. The falafel has the perfect crunch and very tasty. If you like falafel, I recommend trying Taim.
google avatar

Anna X.

Yelp
I'm a huge fan of Mediterranean food and taim did not disappoint! I ordered a bowl with greens, rice, chicken, and a bunch of toppings. Everything was flavorful without being overly salty and the pita bread on the side was SO SOFT AND FLUFFY. Portions were great as well.
google avatar

N C.

Yelp
Totally disregarded my order and gave me a bowl with egg (I'm allergic) and with no falafel. They also left out my pita bread. Don't order taïm through DoorDash--ever.

Asam S.

Yelp
This is kind of like fast food Mediterranean/Israeli. Not much in terms of atmosphere but that's not what people should be coming here for, anyway. Food is good, the staff was patient and kind (I wasn't used to ordering on the screen where I had to pick all of the different options and I got confused several times and they were very nice about showing me what to do). The food is very fresh and it's a good value for your buck. I got a felafel bowl with a couscous base. It was filling and delicious. It was also enough to split with two people without a problem. If I found myself in Dupont Circle around lunchtime again, I would definitely do this.

August O.

Yelp
I had a bowl and it was good. The restaurant is clean and the staff are very kind. My only gripe would be the music the play is a little loud.
google avatar

Sofia R.

Yelp
Such a gem - best fast casual in DC by far. Discovering taïm has been amazing! Our favorites include the falafel pita and the chicken shawarma bowls. The fries are fantastic but don't travel super well, definitely recommend digging in ASAP.

Daniel S.

Yelp
The food is honestly pretty decent for the price point, but at least this location screws up the order at least half the time. Often it's just forgetting to add some of the toppings, other times it's adding the wrong ones. Mistakes happen, but when they don't include items that cost extra, "like $4 of falafel", or give you lettuce instead of rice, it's a bit much. If you order online for pickup, they also only offer "help" of a phone number that rings for a minute before hanging up. There's no recourse to correct your order or to get at least a partial refund for the items you don't receive. Guess they'll just have to deal with the credit card company as they're too busy screwing up orders to answer the phone.
google avatar

Jeremiah L.

Yelp
Good food and easy ordering. Toppings to meat ratio was off and unbalanced, but when I got a good bite it was very good. The space is quaint and not very busy. Plenty of room to stay and eat or grab and go. A decent repeat spot for a very good pita, now if the add ins and get balanced out it would be great.
google avatar

Jarret S.

Yelp
Service was impeccable, the person behind the counter could not have been nicer. Food was very good, though we expected the bowl to be a little bit bigger. The falafel itself is delicious.
google avatar

John M.

Yelp
This place only had three workers, who have to focus on getting the orders done however there's nobody taking orders (because they're all busy making food) and only one system to take people's orders, which I can't imagine is impel because the couple in front of us took a whole 10 minutes. Completely inefficient model that isn't conducive to allowing more customers to dine in a faster efficient fashion. An apparent model that's says we don't care about customers. Will never come back to this place again.
google avatar

Samuel D.

Yelp
Taim is a trendy Mediterranean spot in Dupont that serves Chipotle style bowls and pitas. You order from a kiosk and the food is ready quickly. There is plenty of seating space, the music is at a good volume, and there is plenty of natural light from the large windows at the front of the restaurant. I got za'atar pita and tzatziki and fries with saffron aioli. The pita was okay, the tzatziki was delicious and very garlicky, and the fries and saffron aioli were a perfect pairing. Tasty, quick, at a good price.

John W.

Yelp
By far the best Mediterranean fast casual, in DC and probably in the US. On Sundays, great deal: pita wrap and fries for $10. Food is excellent. Fresh, large serving, many options. But what really sets taim apart is the extremely friendly, hard-working staff - and the spotlessly clean and well-designed restaurant. Much better than Cava and similar options. Recommend checking taim out.
google avatar

Leeann J.

Yelp
I'd been seeing a lot of talk around Taïm on social media, and as someone who really appreciates build-your-own-bowl places, I think it lives up to the hype. Not only are the bowls aesthetically pleasing enough for insta, but they're also delicious. They make the mains to order so they're crispy and warm. I got the eggplant sabich and added Moroccan carrots, and my friend got the cauliflower shawarma. The eggplant is good, definitely very crispy, but the skin can be kind of tough. The cauliflower shawarma is incredible, so if you're not feeling falafel that day, I'd HIGHLY recommend choosing the cauliflower. The Moroccan carrots were the best in the whole bowl imo. They're tangy and soft but deliver such a powerful flavor with the pickled cabbage and shifka peppers. The cumin rice is also fantastic. It's not an overpowering flavor and provides a nice compliment to all the zest and spice you get from the add ons. Overall, it was a really solid meal. While they're a bit more expensive than places like Cava or Roti, you're getting a totally different meal with great flavors. I'm excited to come back again and try the falafel!
google avatar

Nanette H.

Yelp
The menu appealed to me, but when we went inside, the staff was grumpy. When I checked in on Yelp, I was offered a free drink that I chose to redeem right then, after purchasing three meals, totaling $70. When my daughter took my phone up to show the yelp reward and redeem our drink, she was told that we would have to pay for it. The employee took my phone and deleted the reward. Later in the meal she came over and once again offered to give me a drink as long as I would pay five dollars for it. I told her I wasn't interested in making another purchase, and was merely trying to redeem the Yelp reward. She did not ever redeem the reward. Expensive food and poor attitude made me not want to go back.
google avatar

David H.

Yelp
Tasty bowls, very filling. Both falafel types are good but the green one is my favorite. Hummus is good, fries are delicious. The chicken shawarma, eggplant and crispy cauliflower were all delicious.

SJ J.

Yelp
Best falafel I've had in U.S. Only thing better would have been to get french fries in the falafel sandwich, like on the street in Israel.
google avatar

Marshall S.

Yelp
I always attend this strip for lunch and this was my 1st visit, Absolutely delicious & The Fries were the greasiest I've ever had. The staff was friendly and even helped with my order. I greatly appreciate the help of navigating through a new menu. Thumbs up to tonight staff

Yelp
Edgar Moreno is an absolute lifesaver!! We placed a gold belly order, which ships from this location, and after experiencing some technical issue with goldbelly, Edgar was able to easily sort everything out and make sure that our orders were due to arrive to the proper recipients. Not only was he incredibly kind but he was incredibly professional and I can happily say that I would gladly order from this location anytime! Three cheers for Edgar!!!!

James D.

Yelp
Great bowls! The hummus is very good, but don't make the same mistake I did and get hummus as both the base and a topping. Do this if you want essentially hummus soup!! Service was excellent as well!

Sepi S.

Yelp
We just had tried their amazing delicious food from their new location at Falls Church. This will be my new favorite place to go to when they open. Thank you for coming to our area and will highly recommend this to all my friends and family! Can't wait for you guys open tasting a real homemade food at the restaurant!

F E D.

Yelp
Food is well prepared and executed. The service is very good. However, not the most attractive or cleanest place to eat. Always do take-out.
google avatar

Akhilesh P.

Yelp
Even since I visited Israel earlier this year, I've been looking for the flavored, succulent chicken shawarma that I had there, and finally found it at Taïm!
google avatar

Maddie S.

Yelp
This place is great for a fast causal meal in DuPont - perfect for your lunch break. They have bowls with rice, hummus, or lettuce. I highly recommend the falafel option. Very easy to customize your order

Jon T.

Yelp
Got the impossible kebab bowl with hummus and romaine. Very small portion and the bowl had a ton of liquid on the bottom. Im guessing whoever made it didn't care to drain the romaine or the cabbage before throwing it on there. If you want to pay more and get less fresh food than at Cava, this is your place.
google avatar

Stephanie R.

Yelp
WOW! This was delicious. Perfect lunch spot. The shawarma and meatballs were both fantastic. Don't miss the fries with harissa ketchup.

Willis K.

Yelp
Food was good, but it took about 40 minutes to get our food. Cook just announced they have a 100 tickets and there are just three of us (cooking) with a bowl taking 15 minutes to make.
google avatar

M M.

Yelp
This place is phenomenally good and healthy in many ways. The cauliflower schwarma (I know that's spelled wrong) is fabulous. The toppings are great. I was in DC on a biz trip and literally got it two days in a row because it was so good. Nothing to complain about other than the drink selection. Will definitely be ordering again if I'm in a city that has a location. SO happy to see you can order through Goldbelly!!! The first time I had the cauliflower I thought it was not fried; but I'm not sure now if it is or isn't. Not being from around any of the current locations, I will probably try making some version of it for myself at some point. I really wanted to try the Moroccan carrots but didn't want to pay for a side when it was plenty of food for me as just the bowl itself.
google avatar

Yelp
Delicious roasted beets, falafel, hummus, and zatar pita! Not too, pricey either and a lot of food, too!
