Food 10/10 No frills, hands down the best omakase place I’ve been to in NYC. Beautiful portions, amazing pricing, and the Japanese uni just hit. Their omakase set is out of the world. There were a few appetizer dishes before the nigiri came, and each piece was both fresh and unique. Super generous slices, each bite a rich explosion of flavor. The rice itself also had a perfect amount of vinegar. Atmosphere 10/10 Iconically located inside a cafe, without their own storefront, it’s the most unassuming yet homey spot for omakase. The owner truly said quality of fish is all I care about and I’m all here for it. That’s when you know the focus is on the food. Service 10/10 Super friendly and quick service, appreciate the hospitality!!

As a Japanese, I was a bit disappointed by the quality and freshness of the sushi and did not feel like it was worthwhile, especially since we came all the way by train having nothing to do around the neighborhood and the bill was 120 dollars for 2, which is not cheap. The skill of the sushi making must be good and the service was good, but the fish lacked the shine and vibrant color that it should have. (Ex. tuna is dark) I am not sure but maybe because the fish is mostly brought from Japan and it comes frozen (?) I’ve had better sashimi that I’ve ordered from Maine and I personally don’t think being imported from Japan is so important if it lacks the freshness. Also, the taste of shrimp was great, except that while I was chewing, I could feel the sand-like stuff in my mouth, not sure if the shrimp was properly prepared. It is a very old sushi place, I hope that it was just my experience and this place will keep improving and keep on thriving.

Toro scallion with uni on top (you have to order both to make this) The sushi chef is a gem… My recommendation: If you are in Brooklyn and looking for sushi come here. If you are in Manhattan and looking for sushi come here. If you are in Staten Island… nm. If you are in the Bronx and looking for sushi come here. If you are in queens.. you already know what to do. We got the 10 piece “sushi takesushi”, uni, Toro, and the shrimp appetizer…damn. After this I think he’s now my favorite sushi chef. The rice is also great!!

By far the best sushi place I've stepped foot in NYC. 🤣 the sashimi just melts in your mouth, and all the flavors is in harmony with each other. What a treat it was discovering this gem. Run, don't walk, or take the 7 train. ☺️

I’ve been supporting Takesushi for many years and I was so disappointed by this meal. We came for dinner and ordered sushi set B and Takesushi set along with the fried chicken, bill came out to $118. The fish was not up to par, many of them tasted off and the yellow tail for sushi set b was so badly and misshapenly made I was shocked. Takesushi used to be a favorite for me with its fresh and great cuts, masterfully put together by a true artisan. I’m not sure if it’s because they are Sharing a space with the cafe which makes it awkward feeling and they have an issue with storage or some other underlying issue happened when I was there but I was not happy with my meal. Two stars for service

Hidden gem. One of the best sushi spots in nyc. Fresh variety of fish. Old Japanese guys experts in their craft behind the counter. Authentic taste and presentation. Unpretentious queens vibes. Real ones know.

A chill Thursday night pairing with the best Japanese food. We ordered fried japanese eel (tempura), fried chicken wings, sunnyside salad, sushi set A, chirashi. Everything tastes soooo good! Sunnyside salad (for 2) is huge and good for 3 people sharing as appetizers. There are some fresh raw fish on the salad. It is great for summer. The chicken wings are so flavorful, juicy, and great with beer. Chirashi and sushi set are as good as usual. The scallop tastes creamy and sweet! Eel tempura come with some purple yam. I have to said they really know how to make tempura, the coat is thin and perfectly covered the eel. Very satisfied meal and every bite you tasted the fresh. The server and the chef are all so friendly and now they accept credit card! Yay!

It seems the tiktok hype has died down and it's back to the regulars now. I go frequently for lunch and sometimes for dinner. The quality is unchanged from their old location and the owner is still as friendly as ever. They hired a few more waitstaff to handle customers so it's a bit faster now. The quality of sushi is fantastic for the location, a neighborhood Japanese restaurant in Sunnyside. You can't compare this to Michelin starred omakase in Manhattan because that's not what this is. The homey neighborhood vibes and some pretty good fish (sometimes hand carried from Japan) are what you come here for. And the tempura. The tempura master here is the true hidden gem.

I love a good come back story. So when Righteous Eats featured Takesushi's closing on their IG page, it was great to see the masses supporting a local small business. It's been on my bookmarks forever, but with the sudden popularity, it made it hard to go try it out. So when the owner announced they were re-opening in a shared space with a nearby café, I had to go try it. There's even online reservations available on their website. I was surprised to see an empty store when I arrived at 7pm on a Thursday. Even though we made reservations, it wasn't needed. The restaurant remained fairly empty the entire time we were there. Also, there's "CASH ONLY" signs which I found off putting everywhere...on the walls, on the displays and all over the menu. The menu is pretty lengthy, so my husband and I opted to share a chirashi bowl and a few pieces of nigiri from Japan. We are not sushi newbies and have been eating sushi omakase way before it became popular. So being that this place was so popular, we had high expectations. Unfortunately, the quality of the fish wasn't that good. We ordered amberjack, striped jack and golden eye snapper sushi and it didn't taste fresh. The fish in the chirashi was a little better but for $56, I didn't think it was worth it. Also, the service was lacking. Usually when you eat at sushi restaurants, they explain which fish is which. Here, they just put the plates down. The fish is also, not seasoned, which usually can be a good thing to highlight the quality of the fish. But since it didn't taste fresh, we ended up dunking the fish in soy sauce. The standouts of our meal were the Maine uni and, surprisingly, the tamago. Both were very good. Also, the sushi chef recognized that the 1st set of wagyu nigiri we ordered was overcooked, so he sent out a complimentary 2nd set which was much more tender. Kudos to that. I'm happy to see this small business get a new start. I wish them them the best, but I won't return.

I'm not impressed! The original restaurant closed sk when I saw the sign Takesushi is open on the corner where Bon Cafe is located I was surprised. I walked in and asked if it's the same Takesushi and the host confirmed that it is. Now what bothered me was not only that I was misled but I had to see a sign next to the restroom in the back that states that they share space with Bon Cafe. The owner of Takesushi always prided that he saves money to his customers by not spending money in decor but investing in quality fish. I'll tell you one thing the quality wasn't what Takesushi was known for from back in the day when they were in the city & prior the pandemic in their original Sunnyside location. Yes I have been to all of the locations and I won't be coming back to the shared space with Bon Cafe. I just hate when places I liked disappoint me. Sad! At least if you are saving on rent make sure your prices are competitive for the quality that you offer. Sometimes I think I shouldn't go to places I liked before the pandemic as I really want to enjoy food and write good reviews. Never mind that I had two people coming to me asking me to put tip on my credit card while I explain to the first person I'll leave cash as I always live tips in cash. Just because you brought a dish to me and didn't even check on me doesn't make you entitled to a tip.

I can't remember the last time I came to Queens for dinner. We wanted to come here to support them as they have plans to officially close in October. Reportedly, this sushi place may be the first omakase place in NYC! We were happy to get a reservation for 5 on a Tuesday at 6:30pm. They seated us early as well. I think the news of them closing have generated a lot of business. Good thing is we never felt rushed or felt crowded. We shared the fried eel and chicken appetizers. They were expertly seasoned and fried. We then decided to do the 110 omakase special, which started out with an octopus sashimi in a very wasabi heavy sauce. I liked it a lot! Then we had the fried soft shell crab. The omakase of 12 came in 2 plates of 6 each. The rice wasn't the best as it came apart. We liked the simplicity of the fishes but I was left with a similar sentiment as other patrons that it was quite expensive for what we got. We finished with a hand roll. I'm glad we were able to support this business before its planned closure in October. I recommend making a reservation as the wait could be long.

The once-delicious Takesushi is no longer what it used to be. I ordered a set meal, and in one of the tuna rolls, I bit into two fish bones in a row, almost breaking a tooth. Out of goodwill, I informed the chef. And how did the chef respond? He angrily brought out a piece of tuna and told me it was connective tissue. Come on, I've been eating sushi for decades--I know the difference. It wasn't until I asked him to feel whether the "bone" was hard that he blushed and admitted it. No apology, no discount. I left a 20% tip and walked out. The skills and humility that once defined this restaurant have regressed. I'll never go back.

A last attempt at trying Takesushi before they close in October - I got there exactly at 12PM as they opened and got a seat for 4 quite easily on a Sunday but it was quite full already. There was 3 servers, mine being a sweet older Japanese lady that was very efficient and personable! I love love loved the agedashi tofu - it, and the tatsuta age, had a light batter and the tofu was super soft and light! The squid was pretty good, especially with the Mayo on the side. The sushi and chirashi tasted fresh and very tender, especially the scallop and chutoro. The uni was decent as well. The overall experience was good and not bad for the price but I had higher expectations just from all the rave reviews on Instagram. Definitely worth a visit if you can!

I don't understand why this place got hyped up because it was extremely disappointing. It might be time for the owner to retire because sushi, service, and decor are lacking. Got a reservation for lunch at 12pm. Got seated right away, but noticed the restaurant is very dim and has very basic decor. There is a small sushi bar and a bunch of tables. The staff was very disorganized, we had food brought to our table before we ordered. When we finally ordered, it took over an hour and a half for the food to come. The older lady came a few times and asked us what we ordered. It was clear she forgot to place our order a few times. This was extremely frustrating because I had 2 HANGRY young kids. I ordered the Uni Don, which they had the nerve to charge $75. It came with about 6 pieces of uni, ikura and mushy rice. Husband's combo B was alright. Other stuff was alright, not amazing. It took another 20 minutes for the bill to come. When we asked for change the girl bussing the table she doesn't know when we will get the change or at all. Like seriously? Overall, the experience was very underwhelming, and we will definitely not be coming back. It might be a blessing in disguise that they're closing in October.

A true gem in the New York City sushi scene. For Takesushi, it's not about maximizing profit, or capitalizing on the popularity of sushi, but instead bringing joy to the customers. It shows in the quality of the fish, their prices and their service. Glad they were able to open back up despite the issue with their original location.

Went to say goodbye to Takesushi, as we frequented this restaurant over the years but they are closing. This time we ordered some of the more expensive items on the menu, and everything hit the spot. I noticed complaints of service from other recent reviews but I noticed that they have added some staff to handle the larger volumes! In fact, with the crowds the restaurant has a much livelier vibe, which I enjoyed a lot! Sadly, I will probably not get another chance to return but glad that they are going out strong.

Thank you, Takesushi, for existing! I came in for some lunch specials but ordered from their regular menu as well. The last time I went for omakase, they served this delicious toro hand roll and a miso-glazed Chilean sea bass, which melted like butter in your mouth! The spicy tuna roll, soba noodles and HANDMADE shrimp gyoza were also stellar. I've tried a lot of gyoza in Sunnyside but this changed the game. Pretty sure I'm now uppity about gyoza

I stopped by to have some snack and sake before meeting with friends for dinner. Fish eggs, Salmon and Uni are just enough for hold me up. It was nice to have an easy place to sit while waiting. Service was good and I will be back next time for a full meal.

This place got hyped up due to the reason that it is closing. So now there is a wait. The whole time there was only one server for Sunday lunch. We were not served water or tea or even have soy sauce on our table. It's a very basic restaurant. The fish isn't that good and it's overpriced. It is definitely very pricy for what was served.

I came to this restaurant before the pandemic. I haven't been there since, and I've been wanting to check it out. The restaurant has room for you to dine in, but I wouldn't suggest bringing a large group with you. As you walk in, you see a sign printed out stating that it is cash only if you want to avoid the 3% surcharge. Many restaurants have these fees, which encourages you to bring cash. Good thing there are many banks in the area to take out money. That's what my friend has to do as we were low in funds. Anyways, the food was really good. It was a tad expensive. However, some of the seafood gets shipped from Japan, so it makes sense. We got the deep fried chicken, which is marinated in soy sauce, and it was very tasty. The grilled scallops were so unique in look and taste. I've never seen it before. I would definitely recommend it. They didn't have the fuzu ponzo and the Octopus. So, I got the jumbo squid instead, which came with this mayo sauce. I'm glad that I got to try that dish. For the main entree, I got the sashimi and California roll. I must say that the presentation skills and freshness of the seafood are great here. I would go back.

The sushi here is really nice and fresh, you can definitely taste (and see) how great the seafood is! That said, the prices are relatively high for dinner dine-in, though of course the quality is better. Service is really nice and polite, though you have to get cash. Ambiance is also calming though there was a party taking loudly on his phone during my visit. Hoping to visit one last time before they leave forever. Goodbye, Takesushi!

After seeing that this authentic sushi restaurant's head chef would be retiring, we got on their "exclusive" list and got a reservation. Now, keep in mind, we went on the day after NYC experienced flooding all over Brooklyn and some parts of Queens. When it comes to Omakase, I always say "Go big or go home" and opt for the pricier omakase experience. Tax, tip, and one bottle of sake split amongst 6 people cost just shy of $200 and it wasn't even a bar experience. I don't think that the staff is able to manage the influx of customers adequately. The meal felt really rushed. With 4 appetizers and about a dozen nigiri, one dish came after another with practically no time to savor anything. I eat a lot of sushi, but I'm terrible at identifying fish. Typically, the chefs/staff will tell you what piece is what fish. The wait staff here just placed the fish in front of us and practically ran away. With the nigiri, I asked which way we should start eating the fish. The answer I got was "the ginger/wasabi should be on the right". That doesn't tell me how the chef wants me to experience this - usually least fatty fish to the fattiest fish. Our waiter said that the chef has the fastest way to import the fish (then made a joke about it being smuggled in). Even if that were true, they must not have been stored properly and must be the average or below average quality of fish. Many of the pieces had a bad texture . Our first appetizer was octopus doused in wasabi. Think about why you don't see a lot of octopus in omakase. It's tough to work with and in this case, it was tough to chew. With the wasabi, it wasn't very palatable for my party. A few people opted not to finish it and told the waitress it wasn't good. Another piece of fish was covered with ginger (a trick done to cover excessive fishiness). In this case, it almost made me gag. Too much ginger and it still didn't disguise the fishiness. We ended our meal with a hand roll (but the staff didn't even tell us what fish it was). The seaweed was terrible and stuck to our mouths and was overly chewy. I wonder if it got caught in some of the flood during transit to the restaurant. TL;DR - Wait staff didn't tell us what fish we were eating. Food was rushed and we were barely finished with our food before they pushed the next course/set on us. The quality of the fish was terrible and I've eaten better sushi from supermarkets. I've spoken with my party and some people said they wouldn't eat here again, even if it was free. Paid practically $200 and would have gotten better sushi at 7/11 or Walgreens.

Came here on a Saturday night. You can make reservations now which is amazing. Service was good, can't complain. Got the chirashi. Super fresh fish, uni was great. Only mild complaint was that the toro was a little fishy which was a little disappointing. Otherwise the rest of the fish and scallops and shrimp were all amazing.

Cash only. Quite busy for a Friday lunch. We were reprimanded for sitting at a 4 seater table by the boss (we had 2 ppl) but it was his front male staff who told us to sit there, then he proceeded to reprimanded the female waitresses to not let people sit at bigger tables. We offered to move to the counter but was told to stay at our seats. Lunch open from 12-2. Everything was filled by 1pm. I felt like I was stuffing down my food to get out quickly cause we were holding up a bigger table. Food wise: both of our salad had a dash of ginger dressing, literally ate like 10% and then out of sauce. Why didn't we ask for more sauce? The three serving ladies are literally running around nonstop for every tables. We asked for water refill multiple times to get some.. didn't want to add more work for them. Most of the fish were good but nothing special about the pieces. I understand it was busy but the sizes of the fish were uneven (we ordered 2 of the exact same set). 2-3 pieces were not edible (two of the fish and the uni). One of the worst uni we've ever tasted, smelled really bad too. Rice was under seasoned in our opinions.. But the best two were toro (tuna) and hotatekai (scallop)! Def recommend those! For a whopping $190 (tips included) for two sets and a chirashi bowl. We'd choose a different spot next time.

I heard the place is closing soon, and it has been on my list for a while. It does not disappoint.

One of the oldest Japanese sushi restaurant serving good food. Definitely dated decore and no optical aesthetic...just a dinky restaurant cranky out tasty food. We went there and ordered the sushi omakase (150.00 pp), which came with 12 pieces sushi with 4 appetizers. The host recommended that we try the sea eel tempura and it was really good. I didn't use lemon or tempura sauce when I ate the sea eel tempura. The sea eel was cooked perfect...every bite had a crunch followed by the meaty sea eel to fill up your mouth. There is no pretentious plating to make the sushi more appeasing to the eye...just good quality fish and product served with pride. Not the cheapest but definitely a place that serve good quality food, like the old school way.

So sad the place is closing but glad I got to try before it's gone! The fish is definitely good quality and you can taste the difference. However I do think it's a little overpriced considering I've had similar quality of fish but paid less. Also the rolls are rolled up a little messily here I don't know why lol other than that had a decent meal!

My husband and I recently stopped by Takesushi for the first time after hearing about its impending closure (which is apparently no longer happening?). Our experience overall was decent, but not exceptional or noteworthy in any way. I know that they are known for their omakase, which is made abundantly clear when you're seated, as it's the first thing that all of the servers appear to recommend. We would have considered it if we were actually seated at the sushi bar and could have a traditional omakase experience, with each course/piece prepared and placed in front of you individually; however, when you're seated at a table, they bring it out to you as a set, which I think takes away from the intended experience. We opted for the sushi set for two, which came with complimentary lobster miso soup. The soup was okay. I love lobster and appreciated the added hint of flavor that you got from the lobster shells/legs, but there weren't really any edible pieces of lobster. The sushi platter was generous, but the rice seemed a bit on the cooler side for my preference, and a couple of pieces of fish didn't seem that fresh tasting. The service was efficient for the most part, but it did take a while for us to get our check. They were very busy for a Sunday night, probably because of the recent hype they've received. I am happy for them that they now have the means to stay open and would consider returning. It just wasn't a very memorable experience for me overall.

Some of the most delicious sashimi I have ever had in plentiful amounts! Life changing and fresh! I could have 100 sweet shrimp and never get tired of it! The fried short shell crab was so crispy and perfectly fried! You are in for a treat !

I was craving sushi on a Thursday night and choose Takesushi based on reviews and I am so happy I came here. Order take out. Had to wait a little bit the quality and freshness of the sushi was worth it!!!! Ordered the bluefin sushi, tuna sushi, yellowtail sushi, toro sushi and a spicy salmon roll. I will say I wasn't expecting how fresh the fish was going to be and the quality of the fish was beyond words. I Will definitely be back. Thank you for a great dinner.

Amazing amazing amazing! I have not been to this place in a while because honestly it has slipped my mind. I have known the owner through our children's Japanese school and he was always so supportive and giving to the school fundraisers. He is still very insistent on the freshest, best quality fish, at the best rate he can afford to give it to us customers. Today did not disappoint! The place is a very traditional Japanese sushi place, clean and minimalist. Not fancy but a solid, legit sushi place with great fish quality and good service. He has had to pair down employees in preparation of closing in October, and the influx of new customers due to IG foodies has overwhelmed his restaurant. I see people leaving nasty comments and low ratings, but please undertake the situation the restaurant is in. The owner and staff are doing the best that they can with limited bandwidth to handle all these new customers! He is very appreciative of all the support, but pls be mindful of your ratings. I had reservations for today's lunch and was seated right away. The food was delicious and the owner came to say hello and thank us for our patronage. I plan on going back before it closes.

We started to come to Takesushi in 2014. My older child had his first piece of tuna when he was 2.5 yo here at Takesushi. Robin sliced and served him his first piece of sashimi and taught him how to eat sashimi. We use to come here once a week. With work schedule, school schedule we fade our visits. We came here again tonight because my older kid, now 11 yo wanted to see Robin. Food is still the same. Robin only serves good quality food to his customer. We had a great time here and can't be happier with the quality of food we got and the price paid.

After seeing all the hype about this place, we decided to drive an hour to try it. We arrived at 5pm and the place was empty. The ambiance was nice as it is a cafe (shared space). The food was nothing special. We order the omakase w/2 appetizers $110. One app was octopus with wasabi sauce which was slimy. The 2nd appetizer was fried mini shrimp which just ok. As for the omakase, the very nice server didn't explain clearly what was being served. She was confused herself! We also had the assorted sushi $38, again, nothing special. Salmon teriyaki was good. The rolls were ok as well. It was quite an expensive meal that IMO was not worth it. CASH ONLY too!!!

Overpriced but it was delicious. I ordered it for pickup right around the time they opened for lunch, I had to call a lot before they actually picked up.

Some of the best sushi I've had in NYC. It does not matter where you live in the 5 Burroughs it's worth taking the time to come to this restaurant! Order the Omakase as a celebration, I tried to taka sushi sushi. The owner brings in only finest and freshest fish you can get. This is not inexpensive but it is much more affordable then what you would get in Manhattan if you can even find this good quality. Please note while the food is perfect this restaurant is owned and operated by the owner/sushi chef and his wife who works the front door. The service is quirky and can be on the slow side as there is mostly the owner at the sushi counter. The hot menu from the kitchen is just good as the sushi. You might as well be in Japan. Best miso soup also. I loved the black cod and yellow tail Kama. I can't recommend it enough.

Closing in October 2023. I will forever remember the fresh sushi I ate with my parents years ago. This is one of the last traditional Japanese sushi ya in NYC, with a true humble Japanese chef working hard in the kitchen daily. He's an old man now and deserves a wel earned retirement. Just a big lost to the community and afar.

Went to takesushi for the first time last week. Not a great experience. Ordered the sushi for two but they charged us for the deluxe. Waiter said it's cuz the deluxe included live lobster on the menu (but ours was boiled)...when the waiter asked the chef, the chef said they don't make live lobster? They were terrible at explaining and handling our questions. Ended up admitting they made a mistake on their menu and yet we were still charged the deluxe...that aside, fish was cut super thin. Nothing special about the flavor. Don't recommend.

I've been going here a lot since the beginning of COVID for my sushi fix and honestly it has been a god sent. First off, I love sushi and with all the time at hand, I enjoy rolling them up myself when I'm home. With that said, Takesushi sells fresh grade fish by the tray. This ranges from tuna to salmon to uni to scallops and I LOVE THEM ALL. Their fish are always good and the meat has this sheen of freshest that glisten whenever I bring it home. I usually like to just slice it up and eat it over sushi rice with a drizzle of soy sauce for my perfect meal. It's quick, with no cooking involved sans the rice of course. LOL. Do I recommend this please. The answer is HELL YES! I don't know of any other restaurants or even seafood mongers that sells all these goodies, other then ordering from a vendor online to have it ship to your home. The answer is no. Other then their seafood by the tray, I also recommend their actually food. I've ordered and dine in a few times and it's always good. Manhattan quality at Queens price. This is a family owned restaurant which makes me want to support them even more. The owner also takes pride in their food and they are always super friendly. Though keep in mind they are closed on Wednesday and every day from 2-5pm. Though if you're just coming here to get their fish by the tray, then they say you can come anytime between 2-5pm.

First of all, service was impeccable. I was served by Yoshi who was kind and attentive. I ordered the Sushi Takesushi, which is their 10 piece chef's recommendation. The fish tasted fresh and of high quality! Overall a great experience. I will be back!

I didn't want to come here because it was expensive. But then I heard that the owner himself goes to Japan often to get the main ingredients. The fish. He is not kidding. I ordered the chirashi which is a variety of sashimi over sushi rice. It is $56. It tasted just like something I would've had in Japan. It was that delicious. I was pretty full from my meal and appetizer of Japanese fried chicken but my friend decided to order the grilled squid. Omg, this squid was so delicious that I literally felt like I was in a restaurant by Tsukiji Market. If you want to have a taste of what the food is literally like in Japan, this is the place to go. You get what you pay for and you will not be disappointed.

Amazing as always. We went on a Sunday and made reservations. Staff are all amazing. Mr. Robin & two other sushi staff. The host, Simon was kind, friendly and nice. The servers are always friendly as always, Wayne and Leo. Thank you for your hospitality. It was very busy for lunch but we were able to get seated promptly and got our food right away too. Everything is delicious and on point! Thank you for your hospital again.

This is our first time at takesushi, we recently found out about this place and were looking for a good sushi place in Queens. We got 2 rolls (eel and tuna) and chirashi, the rice and fish were the perfect temperature and really fresh fish. The restaurant states cash only but the waiter said they recently started taking cards, which is a relieve because we didn't have enough cash with us.

Restaurant was hyped up too much by social media. Paid 190 per person (including tips + tax) for the omakase, you expect better quality. Not only did I felt rush when eating, the food was mediocore. I didn't know what I was eating and the pieces that we receive felt like I could get it cheaper at any other Japanese restaurant with similar taste.

I have been wanting to try Takesushi since I moved to queens in 2021 and I finally made it. The miso soup was one of the best miso soups I've had, I wish I ordered extra. The sushi was so tasty. The beef teriyaki was very good, a very good cut of beef. We also got edamame and pork gyoza. The service was wonderful, lots of servers but everyone very busy and super helpful. I wish I came sooner, but will hopefully be back in the next few weeks!

We just done the lunch today but we are very disappointed by your restaurant. At first we ordered Chirashi for $52... plus shrimp tempura for $19 and Sushi set A for $30.. First your chirashi come with a very tiny and thin small total 5 pieces with 1 piece of egg, a little fish eggs with they're separate from the bowl of rice!! they are not the same as show in your picture at all... your portion is too little...fro the price...your piece is an uneven cut!!! More than that this plate is missing the tuna.. then second...plate is sushi set A... all the fishs that top on the rice are uneven cut again!!! Small tiny pieces and tear off!!! We intend to come today for support your restaurant because we know that your guys is closing soon... and we come here so many times... but this time is so much worst.. we are so sorry, very disappointed!!

The BESTTTTTTTTT ! :) I love this place! Super simple restaurant that serves amazing quality food! From their super fresh sushi to their perfectly cooked tempura, this place just wins. They also sell various cuts of fish / uni in the fridges that you can purchase for a very low cost! 10/10 would recommend this place! Cash onlyyyyyyyy!!!!!

I was attracted to good reviews so decided to try since I didn't have to drive to Manhattan. Nothing so special about this place. Need to update decorations if they are going to charge Manhattan prices. And please sticky table was bot acceptable and very unappetizing.

The best sushi spot in Sunnyside hands down! Omakase is a must! Nigiri sake was also great. Fresh and delectable. Will definitely come back.

Came here because we were hungry though wanted something light since it was too hot to eat something too heavy. Heard great things but never got a chance to try this place. We walked in and it was a bit full though still there were some tables available. We sat down and was offered tea or water. My friend had water and I had tea -- which is real green tea -- so good. The reason I mentioned my friend had water is because at the end of the meal, the waiter asked if she would like a cup of tea. We split the meal since I didn't want too much food: Appetizer - Age Dashi Tofu (3 huge pieces) and pork gyoza (5) - both were on point. The tofu was lightly fried on the outside. The gyoza was 2 bites of goodness. Entree - got 2 rolls one was tuna and the other was a fish from Japan (I forgot the name). The fish was fresh. It was smooth and melt in your mouth like butter. So happy we came to try this place and now I have to try the other great sashami or sushi. There was a 45th Anniversary menu with fish from Japan on select dates. Go check it out. Restrooms are located downstairs down a flight of stairs. The women have 2 stalls and very clean.

The cook / owner of that restaurant was handling cash from the customers and prepared raw fish with no gloves or washing his hands in between. That's why I was walked away and care to take antibiotics after that meal. So ...if you care about your health do not visit that "establishment "

There might be better sushi in NYC, but I haven't found it. My brother lived in japan for a long time, this is the only place that reminds me of eating in Nanae with him. They put all the money into the food, it shows. It is how it should be, down to the wasabi and miso. The uni is sweet, the toro is fatty, they even get the good mackerel. They only take cash, they dont pay to update the website, they don't pay to be on apps, they dont replace the wooden tables. You have to call to order, and I resent that people are calling them dishonest for not having the website up to date... you spoke to a human when you placed that order, she always quotes the price. They are not dishonest.

This place is consistently the best in service, menu choices, fresh food and expertly prepared dishes.

Haven't been here in years. It is a hidden gem in Sunnyside with most of their fish flown in from Japan and run by real Japanese. We sat at the counter and watched our meal being prepared by an old master. It was an hour before they were closing but they treated us as if we were their first customers of the day. Unfortunately we found a few small bones in our sashimi but the quality of fish is far superior to any that we have recently had. The cod which we ordered to share as an appetizer arrived after we got our sushi but we didn't mind. It was so good that my bf and I started tearing. It's an understated homey spot but pleasant. It is not inexpensive but when you want authentic and fresh, you need to pay. It was cash only when we went and the security gate was down due to the window being broken from a robbery but it didn't deter us. Glad my bf thought of this place because it was excellent. I am sure the next time we go, their facade will be fixed and perhaps they will accept credit cards.

Takesushi is one of the best Japanese restaurants we have visited recently and we highly recommend it. There is currently no outdoor dining available but only Take-out. The menu is limited with super reasonable price and great portion. We had their tempura don, eel don, fried oysters and yellowtail Kama. The food was overall not delicate but delicious and satisfied especially the tempura don. There were 3 pieces of shrimp tempura, various veggie tempura over rice for only $7, which was an incredible price in NYC. The shrimp was fried soft, not crispy but still fresh and juicy. They also served sashimi and uni, which we would like to try next time. The only complaint is that it's cash only which is our concern during COVID-19.

The food here is spectacular. Came here to mainly try their freshly flown fishes directly from Tsukiji Fish Market from Japan. I gotta say everything we ordered, did not disappoint . They were out of kumamoto oysters and our waitress recommended their special "humongous Japanese oysters" @ $10 a piece. Toro was super duper fresh. We ordered Omakase sashimi , and it was my first time ever trying the sweet shrimp raw. It was delicious! Everything was A+ Including their kitchen food, chicken karagé app and chicken teriyaki main. No hard liquors here. They only serve sake, house wine and beer. One thing though, their restrooms stalls were pretty small and narrow. And they didn't have any baby changing table. =[ had to change diapeys in my car . Aside from that, def would come back and try other dishes. I believe the waitstaff were all Japanese. Which makes you feel even more in Japan. Lol Save yourself the 14-16hr flight. Who needs to fly all the way to Japan to try their infamous fishes when you can save the round trip ticket and dine here ?

Hand's down the freshest and most beautifully presented Japanese cousine. We lived in Queens a few years a back and had the pleasure of visting Kawada-san regularly. I am now in VA and my parents in PA, but whenever my folks visit they return with a small tower of Kawada-san's impeccable masterpieces to share with my older sister's family who also live in PA. I on occasion have been lucky enough to have been visiting PA and have been able to partake in these delights! Kawada-san is an amzing chief and have become a good friend through the years. Come here, you will thank yourself that you did!
