Inside Hello Kitty’s Rise to Food Superstardom | Eater

"A multi‑generational, family‑run farm founded in 1940 by an immigrant farmer that has recently partnered with a major character brand to add seasonal attractions — from Hello Kitty plywood stands at its pumpkin patch to a winter Santa tour and a Sanrio village — and now offers spring strawberry picking with photo opportunities; the collaboration, initially approached with hesitation over preserving the farm image, proved wildly successful, driving new visitors and necessitating pre‑sold parking passes for weekend harvest festivals." - Zan Romanoff

Super fun place for a group activity. The parking is large and everything has signs and designated areas. The staff is super friendly and helpful. You can take a tractor ride and the farm while the staff give information along the way. We spotted off to hear a vegetable and fruit presentation with being able to sample the food. You’re also able to pick a vegetable and we got a small watermelon before leaving. There’s a small little farm with she animals you can pet with hand washing stations nearby. They also have picnic areas if you’d like to just chill for a bit after being in the sun. There’s history posting on since walks as well as places for photo ops. You can visit the store to buy items all in support of this farm.

Fun! Fun! Fun! Took my mom and grandma for Mother's Day, and they had a great time picking strawberries and the veggie of the day, which was brussel sprouts. If you're concerned about mobility, you have to bend a bit for the veggies, but the strawberries are grown vertically, so everything can be done standing, and the walkways are flat.

Recently attended their hilltop afternoon tea and had a great time! The staff were incredibly courteous and did their best hosting this type of event for the first time in the hilltop space. The event ran an hour longer than they intended for but I think staff wasn't expecting how long food service would take or the amount of attendees. Regardless, all the food was well-made and the tea station was regularly stocked throughout the day. Marshalle created a great menu! Props to her and Sarah for leading the event. My family and I are happy to support Tanaka Farms going to events like these :)

We had an ok time here. It was pretty and we liked the farm animals. We came for the Halloween event. Everything was nicer quality than other pumpkin patches we have been to, except for the corn maze, which was beyond disappointing. Not sure if we will be back because it is difficult to get there for us and they told us we couldn't take public transportation since they don't allow walk-ins.

There's a dirt parking lot for your car. There were plenty of spots yesterday before the 3:30 tour. The merch was so cute. I spent more on the merch than I did on ticket entry for one. The secret vegetable our group got to pick was an enormous Romaine Lettuce head. You're able to pick 1 lb of strawberries. If you go overboard you can also eat the strawberries as you pick them. There are barn animals you can see at the end of the tour. Plenty of opportunity for cute pictures throughout the experience.

This is your sign to not go strawberry picking in the summer. Unless you like to touch gooey half eaten strawberries by bugs and be swarmed by fruit flies, which was our experience. We weren't warned by our tour guide that the strawberries were gushy due to being eaten by the bugs. It was difficult to fill your basket with good ones. Walking up to the runners it LOOKS like there's plenty of fruit but once to start to pick forget it all you feel is the mushy and bugs flying at you. My child hated her experience. We didn't fill our plastic containers up as we only had 20 minutes which sounds like plenty of time but not this time. Literally walked 3 rows trying to find decent ones and it was so uncomfortable touching all the gooey ones since from the outside they look great but once you grab it forget it. Total waste of $50 for a bad experience. Not sure why they are still offering this tour at this time.

If I could give Tanaka Farms more than five stars, I absolutely would! I've been here three times now - 2x for strawberry picking and another time for watermelon tasting + cherry tomato picking with friends. Both experiences were so fun at a great value of ~$24, which includes the wagon ride, samples, stories, a box of fruit to take home, and a visit to see the barnyard animals. From the moment you hop on the wagon ride, you're greeted by the friendliest staff who make every moment fun and educational. They know their stuff and deliver it with a side of humor, charm, and veggie puns. It's clear they love what they do and want every visitor to leave with a smile (and a box of veggie goodies). You'll laugh, you'll learn, and you'll leave with a newfound appreciation for the hard work that goes into growing the food we eat. They make it their mission to connect us to where our food comes from, how it's grown, and the hands that make it all happen. It's humbling, heartwarming, and honestly, just so amazing to see it all up close. If you're looking for experience to make memories with friends, family, or even solo, Tanaka Farms is the perfect spot. Definitely try their strawberry picking tour to bite into the juiciest strawberry you'll ever have, or try their watermelon tasting tour to indulge yourself in so many different types of melon! Nothing beats trying different types of melons with good friends and enjoying the company of friendly bees who also like melon, too. I can't wait to go back for more u-pick activities, and try their cookouts, farm tours, and educational workshops. Thank you, Tanaka Farms, for the wonderful hands-on experiences I've had so far and for teaching my friends and I to cherish the food we eat and the journey it takes to nourish us!

I haven't been to Tanaka Farms in over 20 years, and to have visited again was amazing. It was my partners first time, and she loved it. We picked our own blackberries and ate as many as we could. A great place to visit and enjoy.

Yelp
Tanaka Farms was a hot topic with my friends in college because of their Sanrio collab before. So I was a little disappointed when I finally when a few years ago only to find out they had discontinued that partnership just the year prior! We stayed and explored anyway and I'm glad we did because the place was bigger than I expected. If you're visiting for the pumpkin patch in the fall, just take note that the pumpkins closest to the main path will be smushed from people walking on them (either accidentally or jumped on by children), but don't be too discouraged because there are plenty of pumpkins further into the patch! We've managed to always find at least 5 pumpkins we want to take home.... and I need to narrow down my selection before my arms get tired lol Also, don't ignore the shop! We found cute mini pumpkins in the bins, and the pie pumpkins here make pies leagues better than what you find in the grocery store. IDK how, it just tastes so much more flavorful! I kind of don't like that the rides are included in the ticket price now because we don't do the rides, but I understand that there was some confusion with guests previously, so I get it. We've also come here for the holiday events and enjoyed riding the tractor to see the lights around the farm. We will try to make it back for this strawberry season!

Yelp
I had such a great time strawberry picking at Tanaka Farms with two friends on 3/26! We went during their happy hour special, which was a great deal at $12 + a $3 service fee. For that price, you get 20 minutes of picking strawberries straight off the vine, and you can even eat as many as you want while you're picking! We were also able to take home 1 lb of strawberries. These strawberries are grown hydroponically and covered with nets to keep them clean, and I have to say - they were absolutely delicious! The sweetness and ripeness of the strawberries really stood out, and it was clear they take great care in growing them. Before we got started, we even had a short tractor tour around the farm, which was a nice touch. The farm space was beautiful and peaceful, and it made for such a fun experience. The experience lasted about an hour total, and I definitely felt it was worth the price. I would absolutely recommend Tanaka Farms to anyone looking for a fun, local farm experience. I'll definitely be coming back for another seasonal fruit picking adventure!

Yelp
I've lived my whole life in Orange County and I've never been to Tanaka Farms. I've been seeing friends on Instagram going strawberry picking so I decided to plan a little day date for me and my husband. I booked the strawberry tour online a week prior. It was an easy process and it cost around $25 per person with a service fee. I booked the 11 am tour and it said to arrive about 15 minutes earlier to check in. We arrived at 10:55 am and checked in and they gave us two plastic containers for the strawberries. Then we stood in line to go on a tractor ride with a group. The tour took us around the farm to see the different things they grow. We got to first pick some Maui green onions for about 10 mins. The last destination was the strawberry field. We had 15 mins to pick about 1 lb of strawberries while also eating them. Loved that we got to eat them while picking them. Don't be grossed out, it's organic. Some dirt is good for you. The whole process was about 45 mins. Afterwards, we walked to check out the barn animals and chickens. So, all together we were there for about an hour. I think it's a cute and fun thing to do with families with children, group of friends or your significant other. It was what it was. I would do this again during a different season to be able to pick different fruits and vegetables.

Yelp
This a farm school...Basically, this farm is an incredible place that educates, entertains, and feeds families year-round! Every season brings something new to enjoy, and the activities are perfect for creating lasting memories. One of the highlights is riding the tractor-pulled flatbeds, which are outfitted with benches, to pick seasonal crops like strawberries or corn. It's both entertaining and educational, offering a fun way to learn about farming and agriculture firsthand. My absolute favorite seasons at this farm are the pumpkin patch in the fall and the strawberry-picking season, which happens to be this month. Both offer unique and exciting experiences that truly capture the charm of the farm. The pumpkin patch feels magical with its festive atmosphere and vibrant autumn colors, while the strawberry season is a delight with the fresh, juicy berries ready to be picked straight from the vine. Each season provides its own special memories, making this farm a year-round destination I always look forward to visiting... It feels like a farm-themed Disneyland! The entire atmosphere is sweet and charming, making it an ideal spot for learning and having fun. Aside from seasonal activities, they also sell fresh produce at the front, so you can take a bit of the farm experience home with you. One of the best parts of visiting is the interactive tractor ride around the farm. The staff take you on a guided tour, sharing interesting facts about the farm and stopping at various sampling stations. At each station, you get to try fresh vegetables like green beans, carrots, sweet corn, cucumbers, and strawberries. You can even fill your own carton to take home and eat as much as you'd like during your visit. Tickets for this experience cost around $27, and it's definitely worth every penny. If you're planning to visit, make sure to buy your tickets online in advance, especially during peak seasons like the pumpkin patch. For example, we found that tickets were completely sold out three weeks before the date we chose. It's an incredibly fun place for kids, with plenty of opportunities for them to explore, learn, and enjoy nature. Whether you're there for the pumpkin patch, strawberry picking, or just the farm experience, it's a place where families can connect with the land, enjoy delicious fresh produce, and create wonderful memories. It's definitely a must-visit destination!

Yelp
A sprawling spread of land (about 30 acres) marks the site of this farm. It has a traditional stand for fresh produce plus additional items like baking goods, honey, even some clothings. It hosts a variety of activities including fruit and vegetable picking, guided tours, dinner arrangements and etc making this farm a fun and healthy place to visit. The farm also has a CSA ( Community Support Agriculture) program that you can subscribe to in which you pay a fee for a box of fresh seasonal produce weekly or biweekly. We subscribe to a small box biweekly for $29 each and received 7-8 items each time. The items are so much fresher compared to those you get from supermarkets. The farm is a proponent of a 'Responsible Farming Method' which combines organic farming with limited use of pesticides when necessary. We attended a "Meet the Farmer" tour recently. Mr Tanaka himself gave an interesting narrative of the history of his family and the farm. The highlight of the tour was a strawberry picking that everyone enjoyed tremendously. I do encourage anyone to pay a visit to this farm.

Yelp
Tanaka Farms is a gem!! Do the farm tour. We got to pick fresh bok choy with our strawberry picking tour. The strawberries were huge and so very sweet. Pack a basket to take and eat all you want while you fill your basket. Delicious and very easy to pick strawberries from the three tiered tower of rows. Friendly staff and super cute spot with donkeys and goats to pet. Family farm feel is awesome and happy to support this generational family farm. If you don't have time for a tour, swing by for their farmers market for fresh veggies and fruit!! We will be back for blackberries and more strawberries!!!

Yelp
Strawberry picking review - Let me say I do LOVE Tanaka Farms! It's so great for kids - the u-pick, tractor rides, farm animals, story time etc. it's all great!! However, in my opinion the strawberry picking (and other u-pick veggies) is wayyyy TOO SHORT! You have about 10-15 minutes to actually pick and every time it feels so so so rushed. Especially if you are trying to wrangle a toddler/child and take photos. I really really wish they would adjust to give everyone more time or offer special extended time tours or something.

Yelp
Update for Tanaka Farms. This time I tried the you pick pre season strawberries. What a treat! We rode on the tractor through the farm while our guide told us all about the history of Tanaka Farms. First we stopped at a romaine lettuce patch and pick our own lettuce to take home and eat, so big and beautiful! Then we rode to the strawberries and our guide showed us what to look for and how to pick strawberries off the vine. It was all you could eat and a pound to take home. So fresh and delicious! I can't wait to try another you pick later this year.

Yelp
I've been going to Tanaka farms for years and used to love it. I've done the watermelon, strawberry and vegetable tours and liked it. I haven't been here in a few years and was a bit disappointed. It's so expensive now. Parking on the weekends is $10 and Entrance is $22. Weekdays Entrance is $20 with free parking. They used to give lots of information about the farm and cool facts about fruits and vegetables while on the wagon ride, but not this time. Food and drinks at the Tanaka grill is pricey too. $4 for bottled water that we couldn't open and $8 for strawberry lemonade. Chicken fingers with a bag of chips are $14. The pumpkin patch was not as nice as it used to be. There are lots of activities but everything else is an additional fee. I didn't enjoy my last visit here.

Yelp
Our absolute favorite place to go. I've been taking my kids since they were babies, and we love it every time. We do the you-pick fruit or veggies. Strawberry season is where it's at! Watermelon tour is ok, but often the fruit is overripe and it's messy. I mean... we go for both! But if you have to choose go for strawberries. I even love an off season veggie trip with the kids. The tractor ride is fun. The kids can go to the petting zoo after, and there's goats and sheep and chicken and a pig. Very cute.
google avatar

Yelp
This is long overdue but I've never been to Tanaka farms in the past, but heard so much about it. My cousins took me here with their babies (lol) during the pumpkin patch season and I loved it! I'm sure my cousins' toddlers loved it too. The animals were so cute to pet and see and we rode the train and was able to see an overview of the farm. It's massive. It was really beautiful during the fall season/pumpkin patch time. I can't wait to come for Christmas!
google avatar

Rachel B.

Yelp
Super cute Hikari Light Festival here, which is fun for people of all ages! A friend and I went to look at the lights, enjoy the petting zoo, and take a nice ride around the farm. There were plenty of activities to do, and food to purchase as well! I would definitely recommend as a great festive experience.

Yelp
Strawberry Tour was a fabulous 1st time experience at the Farm; especially on a weekday. No crowds. Lots of parking. The only set back is that the Farm-to-table food booth options & kid-friendly activities were closed so unfortunately didn't get to have the FULL experience. The great part about having no crowds though is that you can have a better leisurely pace while exploring the grounds after the tour; like visiting with the barnyard animals, taking advantage of their photo ops, or shopping at their outdoor marketplace. Our tour guide & tractor driver today (1.30.25) were friendly and super helpful & knowledgeable about the farm. The tour of the Farm was very educational & informative. And when you finally get to the destination of the Strawberry row section and pick & taste your own strawberries, you will be in strawberry-tasting heaven. Divinely NO pesticides and you can freely enjoy them straight off the vine if you fancy. Juicy. Sweet. Mouthwatering. I think the tour price is a tad-bit pricey, BUT I love supporting family-owned businesses; especially farms and freshly grown vegetables & fruits so I don't mind paying a little bit more that will go towards a beautiful cause & the hardworking workers that help this business run.

Yelp
This is a good LA/OC surrogate for a family friendly farm experience. Staff is pretty friendly and accommodating. Parking is convenient but there may have been a charge for it somewhere. That said, you're not driving 4-hours to "rural SOCAL/ Central Valley" to see a farm. If you're from out east, it's not like a farm there, but uses some version hydroponic-looking tubing and plant stacking to be profit making. They do have U-pick areas which are traditional plant in ground and that was a good value vs cost in terms of veggies and experience. I'd only hesitate on a hot day.
google avatar

Daniela S.

Yelp
Tanaka Farms is my go-to season activity spot. I've been for strawberry picking, the pumpkin patch, sunflower picking, and for Christmas time! They always have a nice setup for photo ops!
google avatar

Gabriel B.

Yelp
I came for the pumpkin patch, the pumpkins are rather pricey but I guess this is mainly for the vibes. It'll be very enjoyable for the kids! I just wish there were more lights at night for the tractor farm. Overall, it's a nice place to visit if you want something to do on a weekend night.

Yelp
I really like going to Tanaka because it's an actual working farm and they provide a lot of agricultural knowledge that I didn't know. We started going during the pandemic when they had a drive thru pumpkin patch. Yes, that sounds interesting but those were interesting times and it worked. Fast forward to present day and things are back in full swing. Now, I feel like it's a bit of a money grab. You have to pay for parking and pay to get into the pumpkin patch and pay for the pumpkins. The wagon ride is included in the cost of admission and you can pet some of the animals. But, everything else is an additional cost. There's a petting zoo and there were carnival type games in addition to a pumpkin launcher and some other fun stuff. You can really make it a day here because they also have food. However, it's hard to do what because it's so packed. It's hard to really enjoy the place because there are so many influencers posed on everything. If you're a "I love the Fall" type person this is probably your jam. I think we're at the point where we can get a pumpkin from the grocery store and call it a day.

Yelp
Came here with a friend to go on the Melon Tour! Parking was easy at a dirt lot, and the place overall is quite clean. Signs were easy to read and follow, and our time slot had roughly ~10 people. We were seated in a two-piece wagon, and we got a tour of the entire farm. It was nice to see what fruits and veggies were grown, and the person was really knowledgeable in sharing about the history of the farm as well as the season. After ~30 min on the wagon, we then had the melon tasting. We were able to eat a bunch of different melons (yellow/red watermelon, cantaloupe, honeydew) as well as harvest/pick peppers! I was SOO full from just eating melons; the only con of all this is that because the melons were super sweet, there were a lot of bees and flies swarming near us. Also they didn't really provide any napkins/hand sanitizer so my hands were super sticky. What was nice is that at the end of the tasting, We got to bring our own watermelon home! Overall, I felt like the melon tour was nice but it was a tad short and not worth for the price I paid. I wouldn't do it again but it was a good experience!

Yelp
I had never been to this farm before but decided to get a ticket for their U-Pick tour and Farm-to-Table Cookout event. I went with a group of friends and had the most fun I've had in awhile. Upon check-in, you receive a reusable bag with two compostable bags and a container inside. Then you take a wagon tour around the farm and stop at 3 fields to pick produce. We ended up picking kale, beets and cherry tomatoes. I was surprised at how much produce we got for the ticket price The staff was very friendly and very informative. After the tour, we had a chance to greet the barnyard animals. Then we moved onto the dinner portion of the program. The area was nicely decorated with lights and there was live music for ambience. We each got a plate of food that consisted of kale salad, coleslaw, baked beans, stir fried zucchini, roasted chicken, tri tip, roasted corn on the cob and fresh fruit. There was plenty of food for a second plate. The staff was super friendly and the food was so good! Definitely check out the farm events if you have never been. They also have a produce stand if you don't want to pick the produce yourself. I will definitely be back!

Yelp
I came here the other day and just wanted to walk around the pumpkins/maybe get a pumpkin or snack. Parking: $10 weekends Entering the farm: $20 PER PERSON What!? Just to enter? This includes the whole thing so veggie picking and a pumpkin and the tractor ride, but I didn't realize that is the only option. This place is cute but a complete money grab and rip off.
google avatar

Karen K.

Yelp
Our field trip to Tanaka Farms was great. The strawberries were so sweet. Way better than supermarket strawberries. You get to fill your box and eat as many as you can. We also hot to pick kale, learn about plants, and pet the animals in the petting zoo. They had sheep, goats, and chickens. They let us ride on the tractor. Then we had a picnic on the picnic benches. We ran out of time so we didn't get to go shopping at their store. Maybe next time. They said melon season is coming next.
google avatar

Pedro G.

Yelp
Tanaka Farms is always a good time! This is my second time coming back! Luckily they now closer later which is nice because the set up lights all around the pumpkin patch which is really nice. Parking isn't a hassle but I do recommend buying the tickets prior to showing up. They have plenty of porta potties as well which is nice. The games are fun, the animals are cute, and overall the whole vibe is great at Tanaka farms. I definitely recommend.
google avatar

Brynn L.

Yelp
Super fun farm and pumpkin patch! Highly recommend going early and buy a parking pass ahead of time. We took our two kids and they loved it. Your entry ticket gets you unlimited wagon rides, corn maze and seeing the animals. Crafts, games, face paint and the you-pick garden cost extra tickets but we had a blast and only purchased 5 extra tickets. Will definitely be back!
google avatar

Megan I.

Yelp
I just did the early season strawberry picking and had so much fun. The tractor tour of the farm was entertaining. We saw all the crops they grow. Then we picked a head of lettuce and afterwards moved on to pick bright red strawberries in the fields. Afterwards, we perused the barn animal quarters and spent time with Tanaka's rescue horses, donkeys, pigs, goats, and chickens. Came home and made homemade strawberry ice cream that night. Delicious!
google avatar

Angela V.

Yelp
Such a fun outdoor activity! A bit pricey around $20-$25 to pick your own strawberries but it's for the experience. You are taken to the fields in a wagon while your tour guide teaches you some history about the farm. They give you a container upon admission and you can fill it up with as many strawberries as you can. They offer different tours all year round depending on what fruit is in season at the time. I would highly recommend it if you're looking for something fun to do.
google avatar

Yelp
Easy 5 star experience!! Got to come here for the first time! Actually first time fruit picking since I became to US!! The price of entry for all fun activities was $24/person and you get to ride on a tractor tour, fresh kale picking, strawberry picking, and mingling with animals! Twas quite fun time! I definitely recommend this trip! I had amazing amount of Strawberries and you could eat as much as you like for limited time! I'm very content with this service and I hope they are continually serving a good service like they are doing now! Come visit and enjoy Cheers

Yelp
My friend and I did the watermelon tour and it was so fun! We got to taste vegetables and tons of watermelon of different varieties. Everything we ate was so juicy and delicious. We were so full during our tour and apparently there were more watermelons to eat. We also got to pick cherry tomatoes which we took home along with a yellow watermelon. Our tour guide was great and I strongly believe we the value for this experience was well worth it. Definitely coming back again with friends and family.

Yelp
We went there last night and we had an amazing experience at the Hikari Festival of Lights @ Tanaka Farms. You really have to go there with your family. They have truck wagon rides, weekend live music (last night there was a violinist ), pic with Santa, activities for the kids, and you can also visit their barnyard animals. Customer service is top notch!
google avatar

Michael T.

Yelp
We love going here. We use to subscribe to their produce box and now live close enough to just come weekly. Besides produce they have other products for sale from merchandise, candies to salsas. You can never go wrong with whatever you decide to buy. Our favorite time of the year is Christmas to come and see the lights at the farm. Bring the kiddos and the family for a great time. Make sure to dress warm in those cold nights.

Yelp
Came by for a farm tour which included strawberry picking and a vegetable. It was one of the last harvests of their famous strawberries and the days vegetable was Brussels sprouts! Living my farming dreams. The tour was so well put together with some history and facts about the farm. They also gave us a sample of their sweet corn. I had no idea you can eat it raw! It was non gmo organic sweet corn. It was so good raw and cold. Like a sweet corn ice cream. I even bought some after to share with family! It was a very hot day so suggest a wide brimmed hat and sunglasses. They have a special variety of strawberries you won't find in the market. Something like San Andreas? I may be wrong. But the whole tour + picking was about 45? Minutes maybe. The strawberries were so sweet and jammy. Beautiful shape and color. The Brussels sprouts took some work to get them out but that was so cool to see how it's harvested and grown! Made a delicious Brussels sprouts side dish with them and devoured the strawberries. Of course with any farm fresh produce, there will be bugs and minor defects. Just wash well and pick carefully. Great activity with friends and family. Saw a few young kids with red stains all over their face haha. They have other tours based on the season, I think now is melons. And then I also saw a cookout happening as it was father's days.

Yelp
Our group of 8 (4 adults, 3 kids aged 3-7, and a 1 year old) enjoyed the farm tour! Docking one star because it is pricey! While waiting for the tour (or after the tour), there were lots of vendors to browse and food and snack options, as well as an area with farm animals that you can try to pet through the gates- chickens, goats, sheep, horses, miniature horses, and more. Strawberry season ended in May this year bc of how hot it was, but we got to pick cherry tomatoes on the tour, and then the tractor took us to a partly shaded area where we got to sample a bunch of produce! Green beans, sweet corn, cantaloupe, and 3 kinds of watermelon. We loved it!!! The samples were plentiful, and all of us left stuffed to the brim. We each got to take a watermelon home, too (except for 1 year old)

Yelp
Melon tour with the sisters was fun. A tractor pulls two wooden wagons full of visitors for a tour of the many acres farm. We stopped to pick Shishika peppers. Then tasted four different kinds of melon. Afterwards, we got to choose whichever melon we like best to take home with us. This was a great way to spend a few hours having fun in an unconventional way.

Yelp
Prices are a little high and a few things are disappointing. Also, it is not friendly to those not in a car, as one would expect from something in Orange County. Otherwise, we loved the experience here. We came for the Halloween experience at night. They have delicious food, many photo opportunities with pumpkins and more. The corn maze was disappointing, though, and it is smaller than some of the other places. Our favorite part was the animals. The assortment of chickens was amazing. All the staff were friendly and welcoming, too.

Yelp
We haven't had the opportunity to do the melon tour and it was amazing. 3 and under are free. Each additional was $20. But this includes the tractor ride, access to the farm animals, story time and picking of the fruit. The kids got to start by picking grape tomatoes then we sat and got to taste the melons Tanaka grows. We had sun melon, 2 red watermelons one seedless and one with seeds and a yellow watermelon. Then you got to pick which melon you wanted to take home. Who does love fresh local fruit and a fun tractor ride around the farm. We love making sure to come here every year. Blessed to have this farm so close to home.

Yelp
I would've loved to give this review a 5 star, but our experience on the day we visited was "meh". We came on Tuesday October 24, 2023 in the early morning. The reason why it was "meh" is because we came on a weekday hoping to avoid large crowds, especially because our Goddaughter/Niece is not a people person & sensitive to loud sounds. Specifically why we came on a Tuesday morning hoping to avoid crowds & loud sounds. We paid $60 for our entrance (3 adults, babygirl got in for free) We came here because we thought that the Hello Kitty display was going to be up like in previous years we've seen online, but it was not (very disappointing). It did say so online but we didn't read that until after we bought our tickets. Nevertheless we still wanted to check it out. On the morning we came unbeknownst to us there was school field trips occurring -.- & it was packed & I mean PACKED. There's no notice online to let people know of school field trips therefore if you're going thinking it won't be busy think again. We were not able to enjoy our visit because there were long lines for everything & screaming kids triggered my goddaughter to start crying. What we thought was going to be a peaceful family day turned out to be catastrophic. We did manage to find a couple spots that weren't too busy but we could not enjoy them for long as the crowds of kids/teachers/ volunteer parents made their way. I'm sure this place will be more enjoyable when she's older & not as sensitive to loud sounds. I wish places would announce online when they're hosting large groups such as field trips because no one likes a crowd, & no one likes a crying baby. They should've at least charged us half off, because paying $20 a person for a place we drove an hour distance from & only walked around 30-40 minutes was not our idea of a pleasurable day. On the upside we did manage to take a few pictures & this place is gorgeous. We're going to try coming back again when she is older. In the meantime if you have babies I recommend you wait to bring them. My recommendation to Tanaka is to inform people if you're going to host larger groups to avoid the overcrowding.

Yelp
My family and I come to Tanaka farms a few times a year, usually for Halloween and Christmas, plus once on when there are no holiday festivities happening. It's pricey, but we always enjoy ourselves. The petting farm is great and the games are also fun for my toddler. The only negative is that they are somewhat inconsistent with collecting tickets and parking passes. For example, we went for the holiday lights and the online booking system forced us to buy a $10 parking pass. We get there, and there are no attendants checking for parking passes, so turns out parking was free and we paid $10 for nothing. That was frustrating.

Yelp
I always love to see a small farm that appears to be thriving. TF have figured out a formula to keep this family farm going through the generations... not an easy thing to do, especially in CA. Did you know that our nation is losing farmland at an unprecedented pace? The good news is that supporting a farm like this one will keep these farms in business that provide wholesome food and entertainment for local families. We walked the pumpkin patch, skipped the free bag of produce because we had a bit of a drive back and I'm not a big fan of turnips, and the cilantro would've wilted. We bought a very generous cup of food, and got to feed the goats and sheep which was an awesome experience!!! I do have one little bone to pick with TF. I understand that it's not easy and maybe not possible to offer farm to table meals, but for a farm that touts education, I would've liked to have seen healthier food options offered. Consider ditching the shaved ice and super-sweet lemonade, and offer some more wholesome options like roast nuts, turkey dogs, empanadas etc... you get the drift. As far as pricing goes, I agree with others who say the food and drinks are on the pricier side for what you get. However, I urge these people to consider the few extra dollars an investment in community and small farms/ local food. This experience was an adventure, and we loved every minute of it!

Yelp
Tanaka Farms is a cute place to visit if you live in the area, but I wouldn't recommend traveling from afar to visit. Pumpkin Patch prices are a bit steep, $22 weekends +$10 parking fee or $20 weekdays with free parking before 12pm on Fridays. Last year we paid $10 entry for a weekend visit so there was a substantial increase. All staff members we encountered were nice. Visited the pumpkin patch this past weekend with my two year old, and he had a great time. He loves visiting the petting zoo and chasing the chickens! There are very few activities for the young toddlers, so can't comment on that. Although he does love watching the pumpkin cannon! There are quite a few cute photo ops available. The actual pumpkin patch area is large with a variety of pumpkin sizes. There is almost no shade if your out in the field, so sunscreen, a hat, and an early morning visit is highly recommended. A good selection of food stalls, and it's always fun to walk through the market. I look forward to bringing my son back for the holiday season.

Yelp
Fun for the family- I think ticket prices have gone up but not a bad deal because it includes the wagon ride and I feel like every year they just get better and better with the decor and layout Kids loved the barnyard and animals experience We didn't get to try the corn maze this year but loved how it was decorated I liked how they added a separate play area for smaller children Filled with photo op areas And kids favorite part is the veggie picking

Yelp
Tanaka Farm is a wonderful place to take your kids or anyone who enjoys farm animals and exploring. We came here for the baby yoga that they offer only 3 months out of the year and I saw this and immediately wanted to try this out. Super cute event, your outdoors under a tent and they bring about 5-6 baby goats out and yes they will poop and pee on you, so you have been warned. The yoga is simple and works on mainly good stretches and you have plenty of time to be with the baby goats during and after the class. Once your done your able to walk around and explore the other farm animals and take pictures. It's a really cool place, would recommend in coming back for other events.

Yelp
Tanaka Farm offers a wonderful experience, despite having limited activities on weekdays. I highly recommend visiting for their two large pumpkin fields and numerous photo opportunities, which make for a great family outing. There's also a small play area for children, and the barnyard, with its variety of friendly animals, adds a charming touch to the visit. On top of that, they provide wagon rides, a U-pick veggie patch, a corn maze, and U-pick pumpkin fields, ensuring a diverse range of activities for visitors. While it's a bit busy even on weekdays, I can only imagine how packed it must get on weekends. You'll likely have different experiences depending on when you visit, but both weekday and weekend visits are worth it. The staff is incredibly friendly, and the farm is well-maintained and clean. They offer pumpkins of all sizes, and I found the prices to be very affordable for the experience provided. In total, you can probably explore everything in about three hours. Overall, it's a fun, family-friendly experience that I would recommend for both locals and visitors.

Yelp
Beautiful place to bring your family and kids to enjoy the farm specially for pumpkins in October. I love the vibe of this place. Plenty of parking which is a plus!

Yelp
Came here with my first graders and had a BLAST! I loved the tractor ride and picking a pumpkin! There are lots of lunch tables and they give you a map (even though the farm is quite small). The corn maze and barnyard are also cool to check out! Great spot for kids or for a date!

Yelp
Fun time at the pumpkin patch. This place always delivers. Nice variety of events and activities. People are always sweet and informative. A little on the pricey side for the actual pumpkins but a great way to spend half a day. Tractor rides, pumpkin launch, animal feeding, fields of u pick, plenty of photo opportunities in addition to weekend food stalls and activity stalls. Toddlers to teens will find something that floats their boat.

Yelp
Went to Tanaka farms for their autumn event which was good for little kids (but very overpriced as you have to pay for parking, admission & most activities). However, my low review mainly reflects my checkout experience while trying to make a purchase. I was very dissatisfied with my check out experience at Tanaka farms while trying to purchase pumpkins. I was with my toddler who picked 3 white casperita pumpkins that were advertised as $3.99 each or 3 for $10.99. Upon checking out, the clerk rang the pumpkins by lbs. I explained that they these pumpkins were advertised as a flat rate. She said they usually are sold by lbs, so I told her where I found the pumpkins and then went with my kid to take a photo of the pumpkins with the price. I walked back, showed photo (to confirm size and pricing) and then she said she needs to ask for more help because there was no button on her POS system for the advertised price. Upon her colleague helping her and me showing a photo, that person went to a manager to clarify the price. I then see a few staff going to the pumpkins, looking and eventually pulling the sign. Meanwhile, I'm waiting at the checkout stand with my pumpkins boxed up ready to go. One of the staff said "they will probably honor it since it was advertised like that" and the price of the mini pumpkins rang up since that was $10.99. We're waiting and waiting... One of the girls eventually walked over to the pumpkin area again and talked to a manager who said they won't honor the listed price but they will give me a 10% discount for the inconvenience. Okay, I am never the one to complain or make a stink- but it was clear that staff made the mistake on the pricing so why not honor that price as advertised up to the point where the realized their mistake? The 10% discount doesn't do much when their pumpkins are already overpriced. What was advertised as $10.99 for 3 pumpkins would cost me $50 even with a discount. I told the check out staff that it's pretty weird that they wouldn't honor the price when I clearly have a photo of the marked prices. I know she can't do anything about it, but overall the whole checkout experience was lacking from me having to "prove" the price by walking back to take a photo to the wait to just get a clear answer. In the end, I did not get the 3 pumpkins not only because it was a rip off but because of the principle. The worse part was having to tell my kid that we aren't getting the pumpkins, which were for his teachers. I prefer going to Manasserro farms for better pricing and way more charm in their esthetics.

Yelp
We had a great/fun time here at Tanaka Farms! We enjoyed looking at all the beautifully grown pumpkins at the patches- varied in different colors, shapes, and sizes! There were a plethora of photo ops at every turn! There was also a feeding zoo full of cute goats and a mini zoo full of adult farm animals in the back. Tanaka Farms also had a mini grocery store before leaving the area, just in case you'd like to take some souvenirs home. Overall, a great experience for the family! Tips: 1. Bring hand sanitizer 2. Buy parking online beforehand (I forgot to buy the actual tickets so I bought it in-person- I think they care more about the parking than anything). 3. Parking is $10 and entrance fee is $22 pp 4. Feeding zoo is $10 for 3 cups of feed for the goats 5. I came during the golden hour (4:40 pm) and the weather was great! Got good photos too :)

Yelp
How to describe Tanaka Farms? A working farm, field trip destination, petting zoo, photo ops and farmers market? Yeah, that's it! I've been visiting since 2019. I came for the pumpkin patch first, which was a fun adventure. At that time there were Hello Kitty signs and themed elements everywhere. I've come for the Hikari light show which was so unique and impressive. I've come for wagon rides and petting zoo as I didn't buy strawberry picking tix in advance AND I've finally made it to strawberry picking. So why a 3? First is cost. I'm picking my fruit and veggies and I've to pay high prices for that?!? The tour guide, while nice, was too quiet so I couldn't hear him. Patron were talking a lot during the ride- why are you here if not to learn? Oh yes, for the 'gram. Why bring your 6 month old baby to bake in the sun? Or your chatterbox child who "hates" fruits and vegetables? 2nd is the lack of ticket availability. I came during spring break and there were school tours/trips. During. Spring. Break. So it's extra crowded. I booked my tix early as I learned from last year and I felt it wasn't worth the $20 per person for a box of strawberries and kale. 3rd the staff don't seem to know answers to questions or give incomplete directions. It's not their first day working there. It feels like it's gotten too big too fast as it's the thing to do. So for that my visits will be very thoughtful.

Yelp
This is one of those places where I am late to the party and I am sorry I was. Just a 15-minute bike ride from my house, and my first time here despite living here for so many years. Tanaka Farms exceeded my expectations. In fact, I am surprised I don't hear more about it. There is certainly more to this than just Strawberry Picking. There is an animal farm you can visit, tractor-trailer rides, educational seminars and plenty of photo ops. Food options are limited so if you can bring your own food, but they do have an assortment of snacks at their gift shop. I went with my friends and my inaanaak and had an absolute blast, even being a 3rd wheel. We all enjoyed the history behind the area, some fun facts about fruits and farms and enjoyed the animals and scenery. I'd definitely recommend to anyone with kids looking for something to do in Irvine
