"You won't need to check your map to find this spot, as this bi-level space has a line that stretches down the block. Don't worry, as the line moves quickly at this locals' favorite. The large menu offers plenty of choices, but all eyes are on the tacos, especially their signature carnitas piled high on a double layer of soft corn tortillas. Other tacos to consider include the costilla de res, a tender bone-in beef rib that's packed with flavor. Portions are generous and prices are fair at this unfussy taqueria that runs on cash only." - Michelin Inspector

The 38 Best Restaurants in Mexico City | Eater

"Considered one of the best places to eat carnitas in Mexico City, El Gran Abanico is a local gem in the Tránsito neighborhood. While the taquería serves pastor, grilled steak, and longaniza tacos, focus on the carnitas. Order a surtida taco — a mix of lean and fatty pork meat — or, if you’re feeling more ambitious, order a pork shank served with fried beans, guacamole, and tortillas. If you take a car: Uber is the best way to get there, and be sure to bring pesos." - Natalia de la Rosa

Cash only. If you are looking for carnitas this is the place. Totally worth the 20 min + wait in long line to get in. Two stories and they are full of diners. I would w/out doubt go back even with the wait in line.

Second time here and absolutely did not disappoint and tasted the same as a fewyears ago. The tacos we had were Castilla - Puerto and surtida. If you are able to come give them a try please do yourself a favor and come. The flavor and portions are beyond. They offer a huge variety of options of food and drinks. Do not be afraid of the line to get i. Because it has 2 floors and it moves pretty quick. It was 5 of us and it roughly took 10 minutes for a table. The fresh waters are delicious but tacos and beer never disappoint.

What can I say that others haven't said. Delicious tacos and good portions. The best part? The prices. Some sit-down taco places can get pricey quickly, but it wasn't the case here. Staff was super fast and friendly. Place can feel chaotic at moments, but that's part of the place itself. There was a line to get in, but it went by pretty quick.

a true local spot with a great local atmosphere and delicious food. Highly recommended. We may need 15 to 20 min to be seated.

Google
This is the most high rated taco shop in Mexico city, so as a taco lover I felt like I had to visit this place. Honestly about the taste, I would only give ⭐️⭐️⭐️ because the taste itself was not that impressive, but the size and portion of the taco were very generous, so I gave 4 starts. I think people like this place because of the nice service and the portion of the food.

Some of my favorite carnitas tacos in the city. Two tacos are enough to fill the belly. The best combo for me is one surtida and one costilla. Jamaica (hibiscus) water also really good in this place. They are a local favorite and they are always crowded at any time. You can seat at the restaurant or across the street there’s a stand from the same place but the stand is cash only.

El Gran Abanico is the place. If you crave authentic carnitas with a great variety of cuts and styles, it has two floors for sevice because it gets crowded service is good for sure I will be back
