1st time here and let me tell you this was was awesome. Everything looked so good that we didn't know what to order. We ordered tacos tortas and a couple of breakfast plates. All seasoned and cooked perfectly. This is a must try if you are in the are and don't forget the drinks...horchata and Agua de Limon are so good.

Younger guy at the register was very attentive to customers and employees making sure everyone was ok. My food was on point and did not disappoint. I had not been here for over 1 year because food was off but man today was so delicious and will be coming back. Shout to everyone there who strive to give is best food and experience.

The food here is excellent. I had tacos this time, but the carne en su jugo is what you really want. Will be going back for that. Takes me back to childhood visits here.

I have been going to this place for years but today was my last time. They raise the prices whenever they feel like even if on the menus they have a different one. In other words they rob people blind if you don't check your receipt. Be careful!

Well I’m not a fan of this place... the food is bland, the salsas are also flavorless... the meat either has no flavor or it has an after taste... usually meat is a problem in most restaurants. The service is good. When pack there is a long wait and maybe bad service for some. I do not recommend if you want food with good meat and flavor. For the most part people are not picky, if you aren’t picky then you might like this place. But if you expect flavor, and good salsas for your food do not come here. I ordered a torta de milanesa and my dad some tacos... I wasn’t able to taste la milanesa at all... I couldn’t even taste the lettuce, tomatoes, and avocado :/ weird as it sounds but I’m not kidding. Salsas not spicy or with flavor, lack of salt and garlic that’s a fact.

This place was recommended by a friend that grew up in the area, i'd say expert in Mexican cuisine. I hate to say bad things about the place because i don't want to hurt people's livelihood. With that being say the food i ate didn't last two hours in my stomach. I think we got food poison, both my son and I. He had steak quesadillas with rice and beans and i had a steak burrito. The beans i think were bad and the mystery meat was grey in color after i asked to have it well done. It was chewy and it had a bit of a weird smell to it. The bakery next door was very nice. The restaurant looked like they were gonna knock it out the park. But sadly they struck out in my opinion. Again we all have a bad day here and there. Sorry to say that with all the other great choices in the area that i already know are great, I will not ever go there again.

Ordered our food and it was out, right way. I had Carne en su jugo and it good 🤤 also tried the tacos de tripas and they were delicious 😋

This place is okay. It has a very limited menu, but that's understandable given it's a taqueria and the pandemic happened. The place is very large, and enough options for you to choose your seat. The fans were off, so that's a good thing. Air seemed well in circulation at the time. Immediately after sitting down, we noticed there was something metallic which seemed very dirty and unsanitized. We realized it was either salsa, or hot oil. Either way, we had to ask the waiter to remove it from our table. The waiter gave us only 1/3 menus with a bottled salsa and no chips. I had to ask for 2 more menus. After giving us the other two menus, our waiter was ready to take our order. Note: we barely had time to look at the menu and see what we wanted. Our waiter also seemed very nervous serving us. It seemed as if the waiter was untrained, or if was their first day on the job. Once the food was ready, two people served us plates. The utensils are metal. Other places provide plastic utensils due to Covid, but this metal utensils. The food I did like, although it's very similar to other foods. Nothing too special. The restroom is not recommended. I recommend you use the restroom before you arrive. The restroom is very small, and there's a urinal right next to the sink. There is a bottle that says "Hand sanitizer" and no soap bottle around (although that was actually soap). There is an air dryer, but no napkins around. If someone opens the door while you're washing your hands, it'll be an uncomfortable situation for you. Upon paying, we were told it was cash only. We were not able to see that sign until it was too late. The signs are very small that you can easily miss them.

imagine you have been driving for a couple hours, you're hungry , have a headache & you get a tip that this is the place to eat. You walk in & they were nice enough, just the service could've been better. Once again we came here on a recommendation of places to eat here in chicago & i wish we wouldn't have listened. They accommodated our big group but they weren't a equipped to handle our orders. They forgot multiple entrees and served all of us at different times. despite all of this we were still fairly optimistic only to be devastatingly wrong. The menudo had no flavor, the quesadilla was literally just grease with the side of tortilla & cheese. (The photo of the quesadilla was after using around 20 of their flimsy napkins.) The tacos were bland & no amount of toppings & condiments could hide the fact that everything here is just grease meat. The horchata was good tho:)! They have an open kitchen in the front so you can watch them cook the horrendous food they are about to serve you. It's also cash only with an atm that doesn't work so if you come here prepare to be out of all your hard earned money for grease and tortillas.

Best carne en su jugo in town. I try the tacos really good, too The lonche de pierna so good Don't forget the jericallas and the 3 leches gelatina next door is the bakery too is cash only and they got arm as well The place is big and weekends are packed Service is always good

Los Gallos is not what it used to be...my 16.00 plate of carne en su jugo literally was old chopped up fat of the steak, the serving was small. The hot sauce was watered and the tortillas were hard and tasted old. I mean for the prices they are charging. I feel like the competition is better! Will never go again...such disappointment!

Hidden gem! This building has a great big sign, although it sorta blends in with the surroundings, once inside - Immaculate!! Spacious! Clean! Beautiful! Plenty of designated parking directly across the street, with murals and totems. Was greeted by the super friendly & respectful kitchen staff. Not much habla english, which was fine for me to go, as I was only here for the Carne En Su Jugo!! This soup is amazing. A Perfect balance of spice and flavor with a very generous amount of FRESH sides of garnishing to add. I can't get enough. It stayed hot for hours right out of the half gallon! I can't explain how exciting it was to share this with family and friends whom've never had anything like it. Truly one of a kind and the best of it's kind! I'll go out of my way for this place. I have plenty of patience, but I believe this is disrespectful. I did a phone order and came to pick it up. Once I arrived home, I noticed my order was wrong. I asked for my meat to be well cooked ( pastor), and it wasn't. I called back, calmy and explain what happened ". They offered to remake it, so I made another trip to pick it up. Got home once again to burned meat. I don't understand why they would do this, just unpleasant to pay for them to burn your food. Tengo mucha paciencia, pero creo que esto es una falta de respeto. Hice un pedido por teléfono y vine a recogerlo. Una vez que llegué a casa, noté que mi pedido estaba equivocado. Pedí que me cocieran bien la carne (pastor), y no fue así. Llamé de vuelta, con calma y explique lo que pasó ". Se ofrecieron a rehacerlo, así que hice otro viaje para recogerlo. Llegué una vez más a casa y quemaron la carne. Me diren carne literalmente quemada.

I have been to all the Los Gallos locations in the city, and this one is no different. They have all been consistent in service and consistent with their food. This location is probably the most spacious, was luckily was able to grab a seat right away. They have great customer service and quickly came to our table to take our order without giving us menus. It's like they knew! They knew we wouldn't have needed a menu, and we quickly put our order in for two large "Carne en su Jugo" entrees. The Carne en su Jugo is definitely one of the best dishes you can order once the temperature starts dropping. A very flavorful broth with the carne being cooked in its own juices and served with pinto beans, bacon, cebolla, cilantro radishes and avocado. They use skirt steak for the meat and but plenty of carne in this caldo. This dish is so flavorful and addicting to eat. It is also served with warm tortillas which makes for a very filling dish. You're free to try whatever you like, but I'd you leave this place without trying their Carne en Su Jugo, you're definitely missing out. This is a must try and you'll thank me later. Although there are other joints that serve carne en su Jugo, nobody does it like Los Gallos.

Great menudo! Must come early in the morning on weekends because they do run out. Great for take outs.

Service is just awesome, the people are great stumbled into the owner by accident great man with great spirit. Now let's talk about the food does not disappoint flavorful and delicious! Great job Los Gallos

God mode have to stop by here for carne en su jugo when even in Chicago makes me want y o love back no many good restaurants

So we were pretty hungry when we arrived here, so I hope I'm not biased, but I'd have to say I had a five-star experience here and left extremely satisfied with a smile on my face and wanting to come back. I had the al pastor taco, tripas taco, tostada de ceviche, steak quesadilla grande, ands small horchata. Tacos were really good. Al Pastor was great and the tripas were a good crispiness and saltiness. Decent amount of meat in the tacos too. The tostada de ceviche (paid the extra 75 cents for avocado on top) was great as well and remained crispy even after I let it sit after a while, but the avocados were a bit meager compared to other places I've had this .. 4 pretty thin pieces..not sure if it was worth the extra cost. I would get these three all again. To my disappointment, the steak quesadilla wasn't as great as I imagine it would be. Just average, may not get this again here, but it didn't really lower my five star experience since we had so much food to eat. Horchata was excellent and a great price for a small cup. Ask for less ice to get some more horchata. Wish we got a large but it was good enough. Unfortunately I didn't read the reviews until after we ordered...after I looked around and saw every single table around us eating soup!! I asked the waiter about this. He said it's their main dish. I also saw on the menu that they were on TV for this three times I think for their soup..carne en su jugo. I was really itching to try this now. I saw everyone dip their tortillas in the soup or pull out ingredients from the soup to eat in the tortilla as well. Was very intrigued. My husband asked the waiter if we could try a sample of the broth and he happily gave us a huge sample of pipin' hot broth. Tasted like a glorified chicken soup with a hint of bay seasoning (pretty sure that's not what's in it, just tasted similar) and slightly acidic. We were pretty full, so this will make us come back next time!! Oh and there was some pickled carrot/cauliflower in a container at some of the tables. We asked about this and it's a complimentary item at the table, so they brought us one. Interesting and new to us. Can't say I loved this or new how to eat it, but added to the great experience! Service was really good, staff was really nice and easy to catch if needed, ha. Five stars. We'll be back one day. Oh, and there's a really cheap pastry/bread place attached next door to check out after!

Great gem we found while going to the recent Mexican festival. The tostada was very tasty, got it with al pastor. I usually don't like tostadas since the breads too thick, but it looked so good and tasted as good as it looked with soft but slightly crispy bread and generous portions of meat and avocado. The chorizo taco was also very good, though a little on saltier side. Horchata is a must-order and reasonably priced. Finally, the steak quesadilla was delicious with stringy cheese and juicy steak pieces- though wish there was slightly more meat to match the meat quantity in all the other food items (can't tell I like my meat?). Overall, want to go back again and try more stuff, especially the soup since apparently that's a big thing there (only realized at the end of our meal when we looked around at everyone else's orders).

Tacos are good but small. Beans and rice are tasty. They charge for cheese and sour cream. Soda is pricey. I enjoy the food but don't really like the extra charges and small taco size.

I wish I could talk about there food but unfortunately due to their service or lack there of we left. Never got greeted by a server, and the final straw was a table that came in 10 minutes after us got serviced right away. I don't think anyone saw or cared that we left. Thats fine with us, we went down to El Nuevo Leon.

In December I went to Puerto Vallarta and had THE BEST Carne en su Jugo. I was on a mission to find a place that could closely resemble my new found favorite soup. Unfortunately, this was not it. Their Carne en su Jugo was very basic with little flavor. The tacos were around the same, basic, not much flavor. The place in itself was a little confusing as well. Wasn't sure if we were to order at the front or sit. We were told to sit and we waited a bit for a waitress. Throughout our meal our "waitress" was hard to find and we had to flag someone down multiple times. My search will continue.

I came for the carne en su jugo and I was not disappointed. Flavorful broth with chunks of meat and vegetables topped with a slice of avocado. It was the perfect thing on a chilly afternoon. Be aware that the menu is almost entirely in Spanish and my waitress spoke very little English.

Tortas de asada were very good. Haven't tried their carne en su jugo yet but I will try next time I come here. Otherwise, I enjoyed the food.

Today was my day off, but I would be accomplishing an important milestone in my Yelp life...my 400th. review would be written some time today. I chose the "underground" Chicago institution: Taquiera Los Gallos (the original location). Have you heard of "carne en su jugo?" I had that today for lunch. What did that taste like? You would need to stay with me for the following paragraphs... Before heading to Los Gallos in Little Village on the commercial W. 26th. st., prepare for $30 worth of cash for two (2). Otherwise, there is an ATM onsite with $2.25 surcharge. The current market price for carne en su jugo is $10/bowl. I've seen some pictures on Yelp from the past six (6) months with the price listed on the menu for $9.25. Please be aware of such change. I guess we came here with God's plan. We found an unpaid street parking spot In FRONT OF the taqueria. They do have customer parking across the road. I promise I will get to the food, as you all are anticipating. I just want to make sure I've touched base, in case you're curious about the neighborhood and its surroundings. Ok, are you ready for this? Carne en su jugo literally means "meat in its juices." The soup is consisted of beef, bacon crumbs, radish, cebollita, parsley, avocado, beans, and lime on the side to adjust whatever acidity you want on your soup. Surprisingly, the soup itself wasn't heavy, yet it seemed to function like a comforting agent like a chicken soup, as you would have it when feeling under the weather. In conclusion, I would definitely recommend carne en su jugo, before going to see a doctor in order to save yourself some unnecessary medical bills. They didn't skimp on meat. Personally, I felt $10/bowl was on a higher side. If you buy bulk to take home, I think it's a better deal since you can purchase a large tub from the cashier for $44. They provide the size specifications so you know the volume in each choice of containers. We also had small horchata and limonada. The beverages were decent. The service was adequate. If you choose to dine in, then take a seat. For to-go or phone order, please proceed to the cashier, pay, and take a seat at the waiting room. Yes, they have many chairs in the waiting room. They are busy like queen bees on the weekend, so the best time to come is the during the weekday afternoon, when most adults and kids are still at their work places and in schools.

This is my first time at this place. Got a steak burrito to go. Service was super good, the burrito was gigantic and tasteful. I wanted to try the carne en su jugo but unfortunately it has an ingredient to which Im allergic (and the waiter was super good by making sure if the carne en su jugo had contained this ingredient or not before trying to push me the product).

Can't go wrong here. Anything you chose is delicious. I love the tacos, I love the Mexican breakfast with Cecina, can't go wrong with the shrimp cocktail or ceviche tostada. And of course, everyone comes here for the Carne en su jugo!! Score!! Plenty of free parking in their private lot across the street. Good for large crowds, family or friends. Staff is friendly and extremely fast. Quick service and the restaurant is very clean.

Good burritos for a reasonable price. Situated on a plaza for outdoor dining. No indoor dining at the moment.

Finally made it to Los Gallos. Try the menudo. It's delicious! We eat with hominy, so doctor it up at home.

I seriously could only recommend one dish here, not because it's the only good dish, but because every time I come here it is expressly for their Carne en su Jugo. I have been to other places, but none compare. It may have to do with the fact that my father introduced the dish to me at this location years ago. As restaurant goes, it's clean and the servers are very friendly.

Not impressed at all. Had their carne en su jugo and the meat was tough and extremely fatty. Al pastor was dry and flavorless. Will not be coming back.

Ordered a gallon of Menudo which is a weekend only dish, the cost of this is $30.00. Which isn't cheap, I get home and find that i only have broth and hardly any meat. I decided to go back because that it just unacceptable, asked to speak to the person in charge and cashier just pointed to someone cooking in the kitchen, not one person was grabbing his attention, so I asked if I should go get him since no one else would. He came over asked what the problem was and said I didn't get any meat with my Menudo, he opened it and asked "How did I order it?" Why would I have to ask for meat, when you order it, you would assume that it has meat in it, at that point I didn't even want it anymore and asked for my money back. They did. Not one time did they apologize or try to make make the situation better. This is very disappointing because I have been going there for over 25 years and so has my family and friends, after this and how they handled it I have to say that my family and I will not be returning here. Never would I have expected that kind of treatment and service from this place that I've been going to for that long. Beware of anyone that goes here make sure you get what you pay for. They have lost long time customers.

Gallo's tacos have become bland and salsa watered down. Food orders are made fast but never hot, even in dine in. It's been on a downward slope for at least five years and food taste isn't consistent. Tacos and tortas are okay. Burritos and carne en su jugo are their specialty. No longer a top five restaurant in Little Village for tacos or tortas. (They fell off!)

If I ever die, I have no problem coming back from the dead just for this place. Their menudo touches my heart in such find ways. It is so full of flavor and taste it hits every palet in your tongue so perfectly. I have been coming here for Soo many years. The meat is superb. I love their tacos. No meat in specific it's all done very well. Service is consistent. I've known the ladies there since I was a little girl and it is so nice to see them always. They only have coffee with cinnamon. My dad always boycotts and brings his own coffee without cinnamon but that's his taste. I love everything about this place. Have come for many years before and will go for many years to come

Carnes en su Jugo are the speciality here and they are really the best in the city. It's a stu that contains steak, beans, and bacon! What else can you ask for? I have been coming here since I was a child and I probably bring my kids when I become a parent. I usually come on Sunday's and have learned that it's best when going later in the day. Sunday mornings are completely packed and there is usually a wait. This is the only reason that I'm giving them a 4 instead of 5 stars. They need to work on a system for seating because there has been times with other people have taken a table although I arrived earlier.

I have going to los gallos for as long as I can remember. When I moved away, any time I returned to Chicago, I made it a point to return to los gallos. Unfortunately, this time the tacos were horrible. The meat was undercooked and gummy. The flavor was off. Addis, the parking attendant is completely inappropriate. Makes sexually explicit remarks to women and still expects a tip. On my next visit, los gallos will not be on my list to visit.

If youre not a fan of any taco place on 26 street come here you will be happy. Pretty good taco and carne en su jugo spot to satisfy your jalisco needs. Tried out the carne en su jugo and it's so good. It has steak, bacon bits, beans, cilantro, onion, in a savory broth. Same goes for the tacos it's seasoned to perfection, not overcooked steak, a job well done.

Been coming here since I could remember eating. When friends come to town and want real Mexican food, this is where I take them. "Carne en su jugo" best soup in Chicago!

Taqueria Los Gallos is a Chicago institution for one must-try dish: Carne en Su Jugo. There are now a couple of locations in the suburbs and City, but this one on 26th street is the first and place has been a local favorite for years. Just a couple of suggestions: this place is all about carne en su jugo, which is a Jalisco favorite. If you don't like soupiness of the jugo, try the Carne Apache--decent, and you get all the fixins. Also: BRING CASH. This place does not accept cards, but an ATM is on the premises. Lastly, free parking is across the street in a supervised lot: take advantage of it, since let's not even talk about the ridiculousness of Chicago street parking. One complaint: there has been a definite aguacate/avocado shortage on Los Gallos' dishes--I want my green slices a-plenty!

Love the Carne en su jugo which is what they are known for. great tacos the burritos are huge and I love that they put rice in it. Great desserts and they now have a Panaderia next door that is just as good. Only negative for me is that they still only accept cash....there is street parking but they also have a small lot across the street that is free.

What with the people here hating there job or something first time ordering pick and the feel so around or some bait saying they dont take credit card. It would of been very helpful to know that by phone but that what you get dealing with people who dont care. Stupid ass restaurant should get with the program

Oh yes, I'm addicted to this place Steak Burritos and Veggie Burritos are amazing and super cheap I usually do takeouts but I've dined there before and usually is busy but still they're super fast and ready all the time! I don't recommend this place for 1st date but great place for the hungry guys and kids too

I come for the soup carne en su jugo. They raised their prices $11 yikes! Still delicious!

I have not eaten here in a looooong time -looks like it was 2009! However, tonight my husband brought me some "carne en su jugo" -or "meat in its own juice"...it's like a meat laden soup with pinto beans. Then you can add all these fun sides liked chopped onions, jalapenos, radishes, cilantro, dried roasted peppers, avocado and a dozen tortillas. This may be just as good as the pozole I had recently. It was a tasty and filling meal. I really liked it so we will have to find excuses to go to 26th street and pick some up!

I stumbled on this place at an odd hour of day and it was packed! When I took my first bite, I knew why it was so packed... it was really darn good. I had two steak tacos with rice and beans for $6! Juicy,well seasoned meat and large servings of rice and beans. Here's a few tips. The line at the register is for people who are ordering to go or paying. Sit down at any table and some will bring you a menu. When you are done go up to the register and tell them your table number - they have your bill. If you need anything while eating, grab one of the several attentive people walking around for help.

Most delicious carne asada tacos ever. I first tried this on a visit to Chicago a year ago and craved it for a whole year back at home in Phoenix, AZ. Now a year later, I've finally moved to Chicago and the first thing I ate when I got here was Los Gallos. YUM!

This is the classic example of a restaurant that once was great and now that they have their customer base begin cutting down on their quality. Ask anyone who has lived in the area and they will tell you how much better this place used to be. I'm disappointed because the food is good however when you take out for example a gallon of Carne en su Jugo it's only filled up 3/4's of the way and most is beans and the broth This place is still cash only, a major inconvenience, though they do have an ATM. Their tacos are the smallest I've ever had and not worth the price.

This is a solid Taqueria. I go here for the carne en su jugo, which is served daily. While it is not the best carne en su jugo I've had, it is the best value. A hearty bowl with everything (onions, radishes, & avocado), is less than $8, quite the deal.

This is my all time favorite spot for CARNE EN SU JUGO.I cant even remember the last time I ordered something besides that.Although I do recall ordering tostadas de ceviche a looooong time ago.I grew up eating their famous carne en su jugo.YES,FAMOUS!!!! I've come in with 5 or 6 people and we ALL order carne en su jugo.That must say SOMETHING.lol.But,yeah.........

You have to get the the carne en su jugo, (spelling?)which is essentially beef soup with tons of awesome stuff in it. It's really amazing. I think it was about $9. They also make great tacos and all the regular Mexican staples you would expect. If you don't know the neighborhood, I'd advise you to go during lunchtime and not wander off. CASH ONLY.
