Taverna East Village

Writing this on behalf of someone. Went with a group of four and did the walk in. Got seated right away even though not everyone present together. Food came out at a decent time. The place is clean. Attentive staff. Delicious food. Recommended the broiled shrimps. The fish tasted good too. Must try this place if you like Mediterranean cuisine and around the area. Personally, I will try this place in the future.

This is my second time at this restaurant (first time was 5 years ago) and the food is still delicious - despite a change of ownership since. Everything we ordered was very good apart from the oysters, which was fresh but had no taste at all. Definitely will be back for a third time.

Long time looking for trying out there East village location. It did not disappoint but needs some improvement to serve better. We ordered the Greek salad, although it was a small options. I was shock how the portion was. Imminently feeling really excited for the entrees. And yes portions were huge including the entrees as well. The grilled calamari was super chewy for me. I’ll definitely order the fried for next time. Grilled shrimp was incredible juicy and well grilled. One of all time favorite, you can choose side of rice, French fries or lemon potato. Which seems really interesting so we ordered it. The ingredients of the salad were fresh and served with virgin olive oil. That’s extra points for this place. They are offering desert which was giving me scent of baklava and pudding in the same time was a huge hit. Over all very enjoyable happy hour taverna meal for us. We got sit a very tiny corner table in a non-rush hour, that’s kinda making me unhappy during my meal. Since the portions aren’t small we definitely needed a bigger table.

Great experience. Took mom for late lunch. From being greeted by the staff, the suggestions for food selection, the freshness of every item and even came with a free dessert. T reminded me of my experience when i when tto Greece. The hospitality, good food and ambience…amazing. Im definitely coming back.

It's a very shabby place, the employees are friendly, but I didn't like how they kept coming to the table to check. There was a constant rush even though the other tables were empty. The salad and fried vegetables were really good, but I found the fish I ate very oily and didn't like it. But since there are few places like this, I give this Greek place a good score. Only minor changes need to be made. By the way, if you are looking for Turkish raki, you can make a fortune here.

I ordered a ginger ale and grilled calamari. The calamari was plated well, and it built the anticipation for me to indulge. I was happy with the first bite. I haven’t had grilled calamari in a while, and this was a good portion and it was tasty/filling. I was also given dessert which resembled a cheesecake, and it was pretty decent. In all, I wouldn’t mind coming back and trying more of the menu, especially the seafood. The one thing I would say is that I was charged $20.95 for Calamari and I was there after 4 pm (their Happy Hour is from 4 pm-6 pm). ( This is a 3.5 / 5 star 🌟 review)

Food was good. Octopus nice and tender, fish fresh. Try sample of their spreads with warm pita. Chicken was a bit dry. Got complementary dessert as well, nice touch. But, what is 3.75% NON CASH CHARGE? i thought maybe that's 'new NYC thing', since i haven't been in a while, but this is only establishment during our stay that actually put that charge on a check.

We came here with friends on their recommendation and had a fantastic dinner. There’s a huge selection of seafood and we enjoyed pretty much everything we tried. Some stand out items include the grilled octopus, sea bass, and shrimp. They de-boned the fish for us as well so it was very easy to enjoy. It was a great experience that I highly recommend!

No real notes. Service, ambiance, food, 5/5 across the board. Sides are delicious, loved the lemon potatoes (so lemony), beets were solid, and zucchini chips were incredible (retained their crisp even 3 hours later as leftover). Bronzino was some of the best I've ever had, so fresh tasting, simply prepared, perfectly fileted, very meaty. Only low light was the free dessert at the end, which was just a little too jello-y for me. We're coming back, and I can't wait. May go to the Astoria one instead to check it out. Thanks team!!!! The service is so bad! Hardly anyone in the restaurant and how typical a slow night makes the staff slower too. We had to wait so long for food to come out and nobody checked on us most of the night. I've been to some tavernas and other ones in the city are better! Lemon potatoes are a pretty standard dish and these ones were so lemony I needed to drink water right after and the calamari tasted like nothing with a lack of seasoning. I'd only come back for the octopus but that's not enough to come back here over another greek spot that also offers it. Huge let down here.

Came for our reservation at 8pm. Was told there are no seats. 5 minutes later, they arrange a seat for 2 other customers without a reservation. Attitude and service was disrespectful. Please make it make sense. What is the point of making a reservation if i cant get seated when I arrive?

Forget Astoria, this was a pretty darn decent establishment to get Greek food! Even if it does has its faults. The fun Greek style architecture is fun and listening to the kitschy Euro beats adds a cute touch to this restaurant without overpowering the overall experience. The lemon orzo chicken soup is spot on with what you would get at other Greek restaurants. This is a heavy soup because of the eggs in it. It is quite heavy and dense that it could work well as an entree. I got the seafood pasta as a main. There is plenty of cooked seafood in the dish and the pasta is great too. I feel the seafood is slightly off, as some of the calamari was a bit rubbery, and the sauce the meal is served in is quite rich. Maybe it was an off day. This dish has lots of potential. You also get free garlic bread with your meal which is nice and toasty, even if it is a little overdone. My server was super cute and friendly. He deserved a little extra in tip and hopefully he was appreciative of it. My water glass was never empty and he had a great sense of humor as to how I attacked my meal and how he served everything up. The free custard cake that comes with the end of the meal is nice as it is creamy, silky, and delicious. I would still like to make my way to Queens to try the real thing, but if it is anything like this location, I am excited.

The OG Astoria location is my family's staple restaurant for seafood - one of my friends was craving seafood and this location was more convenient - I've never been before and ofc my expectations were high and they definitely met them!!! The restaurant has a great aesthetic and is a "perfect size". It's roomy and comfortable. They still have outdoor dining FYI. They had a great selection of cocktails / wines. I ended up getting the "KYCLADES" to start; as well as a bottle of wine with our main courses. We ordered a bunch of apps (can never go wrong with some grilled octopus that was grilled to perfection ) & main courses - (swordfish kebab was also cooked just right - the only complaint is that the rice was not as good as the OG location) The servers were all so welcoming and even packed up our dessert to go (because as you can see, we were in a food coma hehe). Whenever I'm in the city and want a quick Taverna fix, I will definitely be coming back!

Thinking fresh seafood and Greek mediterranean cuisine in a casual setting but you live in Manhattan not Astoria? Taverna Kyclades was pretty perfect in my recent experience for a small family get-together and Sunday lunch. Just look at this spread! All of it prepared really well. Service attentive without being obtrusive.

We love love love the Taverna. It's a trek via subway and taxi from Midtown but it's worth it. We come to NYC at least once a year and Taverna is a must. When we travel with friends, this is where we go out for dinner and everyone loves the food here. Ordering a few appetizers is enough for a meal as we have learned over time. The portions are generous and tasty. The octopus is tender and flavorful with olive oils and a splash of lemon. Yum! The mussels are sized small but delicious with the tomato and feta. Dip some of that bread in the sauce please! The Greek salad is huge and my issue with it is that it has too much tomato and cucumber and barely any lettuce. The slice of feta is amazing. It is not anything like what you get at the supermarket because of its freshness. Our friends had the salad with chicken which was tender and the grilled fish with lemon potatoes. He raved about his meal. One less star because they used to provide complimentary dessert but no more. Great place to enjoy delicious Greek food. Weekends are crowded but worth the wait.

We came without a reservation on a Monday night at around 8pm. The place was full but not super busy/crowded. We were seated in a cozy corner of the restaurant. The music was blaring though so we didn't think it was the most intimate of vibes. We shared the salad which was really fresh. I remember eating all types of Greek salads while in Greece this year. This reminded me of the simplicity and freshness of greek salads. I could eat it everyday. The octopus was good and so was the fish. I wasn't expecting lemon potatoes to look or taste like the lemon potatoes we got. Im still trying to figure out what I ate. It was good but not what I was expecting! Come check this place out if you're in need of some simple fresh greek food. This made me want to go back to Greece again!

Seafood-centric Greek food. Our party of four ordered the holoumi and the four-dip appetizer (airy and divine, one spicy). For mains, there was grilled sardines, baked sole, calamari and a sauced up shrimp dish. The shrimp was overcooked but the sauce was incredible. We had a side of steamed vegetables and sweet beets- healthy and delectable. All the seafood is on ice on full display. The waitstaff are vigilant. They shared an amazing dessert- on the house. Even with a reservation, we were seated at a banquet table and tables had to be moved. Overall, a terrific experience destination to share with friends.

I truly love the food and service here! Specifically I'd order the grilled octopus, branzino, and scallops agains. The manager is great and always checking on how you are doing as well. The environment is perfect for big group environments

The food and service are both exceptional. Try the peppers and fish - stunning. The location is nice and the noise level allows for a chat.

My recent visit to this restaurant left me incredibly disappointed. We had a reservation for 8:30 PM, but upon arrival, we were asked to wait for an additional 10 minutes because the table was still occupied. This delay extended to 30 minutes, despite our inquiries. To our surprise, we observed an empty table, but when we requested it, we were told it was reserved (ironically, we had a reservation too). During our 40-minute wait, we stood near the bar and live seafood section, where we witnessed concerning practices. The bartender handled drinks with bare hands, touching his face and the cocktail bottles, which were visibly unclean. The waitstaff handled food with dirty hands before serving it. This experience not only eroded our appetite but also left us disheartened by the service. We decided to leave and Uber to another restaurant, where we received the service we deserved. I hope the restaurant takes these issues seriously and improves its service and hygiene practices for future customers.

Nice greek vibes and food. Their seafood is great. The salad was fresh and its white cheese is truly greek. Highly recommend for Mediterranean food lovers. Service is nice, make a reservation if you want easy seating on the weekend.

Wanted Greek food and definitely hit the spot!! It's been my go-to from there Bayside Location. Ordered bunch of things from Grilled Octopus to Lamb Riblets and even Steak . Great Night out , this place never disappoints!! Ambiance - 10/10 Service- Parking - Street Reservation- Might be Required MUST TRY Lamb RIBLETS

I used to be a local at the Astoria location and was glad to see that there was another location in my new area. I'd say that the food was amazing as per usual. I should branch out and try other things on the menu but I tend to usually get a rotation of the same 5 things. This time I got the the horiatiki salad, oktapodi, and the Kyclades special w/ a side of lemon potatoes. These 3 dishes are more than enough for a party of 2. I went on a Saturday afternoon and would most likely describe the ambiance to be cozy. I made reservations ahead of time because I saw that this location also tends to get really busy during the night time but would say a reservation is not needed for lunch. The service was average. Would I come back? Definitely.

How upsetting the racial discrimination I just experienced here. I came with reservations for 8pm. When we checked in the hostess told us we no spaces inside for us. And I asked once more once we sat to our waiter whom also told us NO. Not five minutes later 2 Causasian patrons entered and they immediately made a table for 2 inside. I went inside and asked them what that was about her first excuse was they didnt have tables when we walked in 5 minutes earlier. Nope you specifically pulled apart a large table for them, which couldve been done for us. Hostess said we were white just like the other patrons. We are fully korean. Disgusted.

The food is good. The service too but I wish they hadn't moved us to a corner table. We walked in and the wait time was about 20 mins. I suggest making a reservation in advance. Oh about getting us moved to a corner table, the waitstaff offered free drinks and desserts.

Really relaxed dining environment, casual. Large amounts of seating. Nice signature cocktails with a greek twist. All the seafood was exceptional including the oysters and octopus. Great option to get a bunch of different options and share it amongst your dining party. The food was flavorful and authentically greek. Its a busy spot so try to make a reservation. Loved by locals for sure

Erica was our server and was absolutely wonderful! The food was great, music was great, service was great, and we got both drinks and dessert on the house! Best restaurant experience I've had in a while!

Delish Greek Restaurant in East Village At Taverna Kyclades you transport yourself to Greece from the freshness of the food, the quality and the decor. The menu is more seafood based and enjoyed everything I had! I specifically LOVED the Grilled Octopus- so soft and tender. Overall, I enjoyed everything I got and would reorder each item. This place is not same! Recent visit ordered red snapper. Charged $75 for a fish for 2 people. Dessert - galaktoboreko was terrible, supposed to be custard this was dry and grainy. Old man who seems to be running the place is curmudgeony speaking loud talking about customer who owes him money....quite frankly TACKY! Place was empty know I know why. Won't be back!

The food was very good. The mussels were amazing! The Greek Salad was good with fresh ingredients and the Spinach pie was also tasty. The reason I did not give it 5 stars is that all the food came out at once, which I do not like. I specified that we like to share each dish, but next time I go I will specifically stress that they bring the food out one dish at a time. The food got cold because we could not eat it all at once.

I recently had lunch with a friend at a Greek restaurant located in the East Village. It's incredibly convenient as it's located right next to a subway exit. Every dish we ordered was delicious, but I highly recommend trying their grilled octopus - it was so tender. The scallops were also incredibly juicy and full of flavor, and the pasta was bursting with flavor as well. Surprisingly, I decided to try the baby shark, and it was absolutely delicious! I'll definitely be returning in the future

Taverna Kyclades is a great spot in the east village for seafood lovers! The MUST gets are: - lemon potatoes (so good I was inhaling them) - octopus (pro tip: dip the table bread in the oil) - lamb chops (full of flavor and cooked to perfection) I'm not a huge seafood lover but i still thoroughly enjoyed my meal!

The food is pretty good, but the service is atrocious. The seating is oddly close together, it felt like I was third wheeling the tables first date next to us.

If you dream of lemon potatoes, charcoal grilled seafood, and hearty Greek salads the way I do, feeling transported to the Mediterranean is as easy as walking into the East Village location of Taverna Kyclades. Somehow this restaurant on the very prime corner of 14th st and 1st ave is much easier to get a table at than the original Astoria location, where it feels you have to know someone to be able to dine there on some days. I should note that while it has felt cozy and charming during dimly lit, busy dinner hours, visiting recently in broad daylight for lunch had a little bit of a lights on at the club feel. The chairs felt really flimsy and the tables a bit sticky, and no frills, which is a bit incongruous with the pricing. I'm more concerned with the flavors than the ambience when I dine out so this was easy to brush off, but a footnote to my lunch nevertheless. We started with some delightful Greek white wines recommended by our server, which helped set the tone for our summery transportation to the Greek islands via our taste buds. Of the things we tried, the Kyclades salad with a grilled shrimp add on was my favorite. The portions of all the dishes were quite large, and the shrimp were butterflied and charcoaled, really amping up the whole salad. We also enjoyed some saganaki, lemon potatoes, and spanakopita, because what classic Greek meal would be complete without these dishes? They offered a complimentary dessert at the end of our meal, but I found it overwhelmingly sweet. All in all it is a fine option in this part of town if you're seeking a traditional Greek meal with friendly and speedy service in a no frills kind of space.

Came here on a Tuesday around 5pm to meet up with a group of friends for dinner. This place was really empty throughout our entire stay, which somewhat surprised us. We started out with Fried Calamari ($18) and Pikilia ($15). Pikilia is an assortment of homemade Greek style spreads: Skordalia (Mashed Potatoes with Garlic), Tzatziki (Yogurt, Garlic & Cucumber Dip), Taramosalata (Caviar Dip), Melitzana (Eggplant Dip), and Tirokafteri (Spicy Feta Dip). Tzatziki, the staple Greek spread was the best one of the bunch. Tirokafteri would be my second choice as it had good flavor with a kick. The other three dips I was not a fan of. Fried Calamari is pretty standard amongst Mediterranean restaurants and meets expectations. The Charcoaled Grilled Mediterranean Octopus ($26) they bring out two large tentacles before cutting it into pieces in front of us for presentation purposes I guess. Super tender and tastes amazing. A dish I recommend ordering, backed by other Yelp reviews. Branzini ($40) is a Mediterranean Sea Bass, highly raved amongst a lot of Yelp reviewers and of course a must order also. If you ever traveled to one of the Greek islands, it really takes you back as if you were there. Ribeye Steak ($37) we had an issue with. We asked for the steak of be medium. We were expecting the meat upon slicing it to be pink. We were met with a plate of blood and the meat were bright red. Steak was rare at best. At the end of our meal, we were given complementary dessert. No clue what it is called (I think it's Galaktoboureko upon Googling "Greek desserts"). It was a sweet gelatin, not as sweet as Baklava, with an interesting texture. I didn't finish it as I was super stuffed with everything we ordered. In terms of service, I would say that it was fair. Our waitress was professional, but kept a straight face throughout the interaction. Not sure if it's because she was annoyed with us or what as we did hold off on ordering entrees as we were waiting for a fourth to show up.

Super friendly service, homestyle-meal. I personally have a penchant for the Astoria location (it used to be BYOB a long time ago), but this place is great addition to the East Village Greek food scene. The mixed-seafood platter was super impressive, and we all loved the Greek salad (feta slab?? yes please). Beautiful decor too, and also right next to the L subway line... great place to take the family, great vibes all around (albeit slightly pricey)...

The service is bad along with the attitude from the hostess. Would not recommend dining here.

I love this place. The one in the east village is my favorite with the variety of spreads. Everything is yummy and ambiance makes you feel like your in Greece.

I had a fantastic meal at Taverna Kyclades. Everything is so fresh there and I enjoyed it all. My absolute favorite dishes were octopus and scallops.

It had been a while since I had been to the Astoria spot of this location but I remember loving my experience. Great seafood (and awesome portions), great ambiance, and a great staff. The last time I visited it was a perfect summer night, the restaurant was packed. All in my group were happy and content with everything. I remember the calamari being a particular standout. Flash forward to now, the winter of 2023, to their spot in the East Village and thankfully not much has changed. Food is still good, portions are a-plenty (wait till you see what a "medium" salad looks like), and the staff is sweet and hospitable. While my current lifestyle does not allow me to indulge in every single thing I would've loved to have had on the menu, this is seafood we're talking about, and so even on a low-carb kick, this place has some fantastic and delicious options. The Paidaki (lamb chops) are absolutely delicious. I'm usually not the biggest fan of lamb chops in restaurants since you get very little and often pay a lot. But these were a perfect size, seasoned wonderfully, and had amazing taste. Prepared exactly how they should be, and again, portions here are friggin' awesome. Loved these. I didn't have the Lemon Potatoes but let me tell you, my date absolutely loved them, they looked incredible and smelled friggin' amazing, so I had to add a pic here cause you need to get these. They're a perfect side. The Oktapodi (octopus) is categorized under "Appetizers" but this is a full meal. Again, going back to the portions that they serve here, this is a pretty big app if you ask me. Absolutely DELICIOUS. Loved every single bite. Flavored and seasoned to bring out all of the delicious flavors, this was a great dish and I'm sure they'll rearrange this and put this under their "Mains" cause damn, this ain't no starter. They also do a nice little show of cutting it up for you before you dig in. The scallops were delicious, very plump, and very big. Another great starter and it was swimming in butter. And lemme tell you: scallops and butter are the way to go. Just so damn good. Any salad you get from here is a winner. Just make sure you get feta cheese along with it. Because if you don't, you're doing it wrong. Great spot and awesome service, can't wait to go back. Oh, and there's an actual fish market towards the back of this restaurant so you can literally see the freshness of your food when it's being prepared, and maybe take some fish home with you if hanging out with whole fish after dinner is your thing.

Visited Sunday evening Was not that busy . As always great food . Unfortunately not greek music was on. Angelo our server was polite, on time and attentive. Had great experience. Grilled octopus must have !!!

The food was amazing! We had the octopus, the sardines, a salad, the spanakopita, and the beets. Everything was fresh and flavorful. Now the service was a mess: we got the wrong salad, no one ever came to refill our glasses of water, ask if we wanted more drinks, or remove the empty plates; what's more, the server even forgot to bring my husbands drink. Every time we needed something, we had to flag the servers. We literally sat there for 10 minutes trying to make eye contact for someone to bring the drinks menu... when we realized that that wasn't happening, my husband ended up getting up and asking for the check. At first, I thought of having my team dinner here after tasting the food, but by the end of the dinner, we were so fed up with how uncaring the staff was that we decided to leave. Needless to say, we won't be coming back here and won't be recommending this place to anyone. Such a shame because the food was good.

Their portions are generous. That us about it with the perks of this restaurant. The side dishes taste like something they cook in bulk and use all week. It had potential in flavor, but the sourness of the lemon was just too much for me. My whiting fish was good. Whiting is hard to mess up when all you have to do is get it. The complimentary dessert is definitely thoughtful. It was the saving grace of this otherwise very mediocre dining experience. My friend holds a special place in his heart for this place, so I will just end this review here. It may be the go-to for some, but for me, one time was good enough.

Put aside the car fumes, NYC's hustle and bustle and sit outside (you'll be fine). Call and reserve for indoor seating. Hubs and I are die-hard fans of Taverna Kyclades in Astoria. So much so, we put them up on a pedestal and see if other Greek spots we go to measure up to Kyclades' master plan. This 14th St & 1st Ave location in the East Village did us right when we seized the opportunity to dine here on a Thursday night. FYI- if you go to Taverna Kyclades' website, it only lists both their Astoria and Bayside Queens locations while this Manhattan spot is MIA. We called and questioned if they're all owned by the same person and the gentleman phonetically said, "is a parrrneship". We went anyway. Indoor was booked and dined outside. Service was terrific and attentive. First round of cocktails were knocked over by our server which she happily put another order in and were docked in the end. Thank you. Our Greek Salad with Feta was refreshing on a humid night and the 3-piece $22 Grilled Octopus appetizer was like butter and cooked to supreme perfection. My Swordfish Kebabs tasted as if they were submerged in a glorious lemony+seasony marinade because every piece was juicy. Hubs' M/P ($40) Branzino was clean and headless. So far, we've visited 2 locations and have encountered fantastic food and friendliness. There's nothing else in my book. Kyclades just rules!

we were really looking forwards to trying this place and it was a big bust. we thought the food was average and the service was absolutely horrible. place was not busy but the waitress/server was hardly ever around, and when she did show up with our food and drinks she complained under her breath about her manager, having to work, etc. i very rarely if ever don't leave a half decent tip but this sever just sucked and didn't care. too many other places to try in the neighborhood to bother going back there for an ok meal. that said the selection/presentation of fresh fish on ice did look impressive-and tasty too, but nothing that blew us away and the sides were adequate at best.

I have eaten at Taverna Kyclades many, many times-and generally had good experiences and excellent food. The other night, i encountered the rudest manager i have ever met in my entire life. We brought our own bottle of wine to dinner, as we have done there before, and after we called earlier in the week to confirm that we could bring our own wine. The manager started screaming at us that he wouldn't allow us to drink it (the staff had already opened the bottle) and then as our appetizers arrived, he kicked us out of the restaurant. I was flabbergasted and have never in my life been treated so rudely, in any restaurant, in any city. I went there less than three weeks ago and spent $600 on dinner with my family-and this is how they treat customers. Never, ever again.

I had a weird dinner experience. It's supposed to be a sea food restaurant, but ... the night we went literally more than 80% of the fish dishes on the menu were Not available. They had only 2 mp options (no price written - it's "market" price) and sardines! The mp was $120 for 1 fish! Like seriously? (We ordered sardines). They also have a 4% credit card surcharge. Service was very slow - but on the positive side the food tasted good. No way I'll go there again.

Great local find. Food was delicious, we enjoyed everything except for the grilled halibut. Big portions so this restaurant is great for small to large sized groups. Service - overall very friendly but a bit slow (not always bad if you're not in a hurry and pacing yourself between courses). The complimentary dessert was a nice touch. Great food service and ambiance Authentic Greek food Whatever they're doing, they should keep doing it

I know the menu looks expensive but oh my goodness the value/portion size of my meal was beyond worth it. I ordered the whiting fish and lemon potatoes for $20.99 and as I type this I found out it also comes with a desert. My plate was enormous and delicious. So happy with my choice to eat here. And the staff was so accommodating and nice. It seemed like they were training the woman working the bar- she was beyond sweet. Please keep her

Had lunch on a sunny Friday and took one of the outdoor seats. The weekday lunch options are fairly cheap but still deliver great quality. We got the seafood pasta and the grilled sea bass. Starting off the complimentary bread brushed with olive oil was well heated and got the crunch outside with a nice fluff inside. The seafood pasta had a generous portion of different seafood (we literally finished the pasta before the seafood), the lobster bisque sauce was very well flavored and rich with a perfect thickness that stick on the pasta. The sea bass was perfectly cooked with flavorful crunchy skin. They also offered a complimentary Greek dessert that is like a custard pudding to put a great end to the meal. Great meal and definitely recommended.

The original is in Astoria. I love the aesthetic of the East Village location. So romantic and intimate. The seafood is incredibly fresh. It is very similar to the Astoria location and I was able to make a reservation which was great. We didn't get the starter salad which is my favorite. The service was great. The waiters were super awesome and attentive. They made great recs. I highly recommend this location. Absolutely lovely!

Taverna Kyclades in East Village is one of three locations, and in close proximity to where I live. So, we decided to try it out, with lunch here being our last meal of the year together :'( Fortunately Taverna Kyclades came through! The service here was exceptional. I do not use that word lightly. The service only perpetuated the stereotype that Greeks are very, very friendly, and take it to the next level. We were offered bread and olive oil while waiting for our entrees, as is customary. But also, we were offered a free dessert on the end, that came out of nowhere! And it was good. Our server was very attentive and helpful throughout as well, thanking us as we left. For the service alone, I'd love to come here again. Loved the decor as well. I've been to restaurants where the nautical theme is shoddily executed. This isn't one of them. Music is also played in the background, with acoustic covers of famous songs, and I must say it adds to the nice, feel-good, clean atmosphere. We ordered from their lunch special menu, which is quite affordable, with sizeable portions. The chicken kebab was tasty, and felt healthy, which is a plus. However, I wish the accompanying sauces were better, as without them the dryness is present. It comes with a side of rice and some greens. Rozena's spaghetti with mussels and shrimp was tasty, with a nice sauce, and the portions were large enough to require us to take some home. Taverna Kyclades is the real deal when it comes to Greek food in the east village. I can't say much more about their dinner menu, but their lunch menu is affordable, tasty, and leaves a hungry diner full.

My favorite neighborhood Greek place! The food is great and the entree portions are HUGE. Definitely great for sharing or to have dinner with leftovers for lunch the next day. The food is all delicious and reasonably priced. Some of my favorites are: -Pikilia (assortment of dips) - I love all of them they are incredible -horiatiki- my favorite salad, it is always fresh and flavorful -grilled chicken- great flavor and comes with a side of your choice (I always opt for the potatoes or fries) -grilled baby shark- they don't always have this but when they do it is a MUST. So delicious -lemon potatoes -fries: the French fries are more like fresh potato chips than traditional fries but are deliciously seasoned and best when dipped in tzatziki! -broccoli rabe- my favorite vegetable, it is covered with olive oil and feta, a must on the side of whatever you order. (Also great with eggs the next morning)
