Teakwood - Review - Hayes Valley - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"The Burmese restaurants have a range in SF. Go to Burma Love with big groups, Pagan when you want to roll up in sweats, or Yamo for a sub-$15 meal. Teakwood is the swankiest of the Burmese restaurant pool. The Hayes Valley spot (from the Burma Superstar and Burma Love people) has gorgeous floor-to-ceiling murals, glitzy circular lamps hovering overhead like UFOs, and a full bar that practically sparkles. While the Burmese staples, like the rainbow salad and mohinga aren’t the most memorable versions in SF, they’re still solid. Go for the sweet-spicy ginger chili pork belly or the platha with dip and you’ll have a good time. Since this spot is near a lot of downtown theaters like Davies Symphony Hall and The Orpheum, it’s the spot for pre-show meals, or to take a load off after buying monogrammed suitcases on Hayes Street." - Julia Chen

The Team Behind Burma Superstar Is Opening a New Restaurant Called Teakwood in Hayes Valley - Eater SF

"A new concept from the Burmese restaurant chain, Teakwood, will open on the corner of Grove and Gough streets this spring. The Burma Food Group team is working with Studio KDA Design to renovate the space. Menu details remain scarce, but a press release promises fans can expect not only the restaurant chain’s well-loved tea leaf salad, but also new dishes that 'highlight the flavor influences of neighboring countries such as Thailand, China, and India.' Teakwood will serve both lunch and dinner, on top of offering happy hour — though that will likely launch after the opening. There will be a full bar with drinks designed to pair with the 'fresh, tart, and spiced' flavors associated with the restaurant group’s menus, per the release." - Lauren Saria

Tea leaf salad was delicious and mixed table side for us. Duck curry was good but there wasn’t much duck considering it’s $32. We appreciated that they changed our plates and utensils after the salad. Service was friendly and efficient. We want to come back to try other dishes.

Absolutely delicious! Loved everything we got! Green curry is super fresh / not from a paste, tea salad has good crunch from peanuts, fiery tofu is delicious and the right level of spice. For apps the mushrooms were a highlight, so delicious!! And the spring rolls were full of flavor. Will definitely come back :) 60% or more of the menu is gluten free. Very well marked for all dietary restrictions and waiter was super knowledgeable of allergens.

This was my second visit to Teakwood. The food was flavorful and creatively prepared, just as I remembered. The restaurant itself has a modern, calming atmosphere—comfortable seating, beautiful colors, and thoughtful design accents that really add to the experience. The cod noodles were delicious, though the portion of cod was surprisingly small. The duck, while generously portioned and nicely seasoned, unfortunately wasn’t cooked through. It was tough to chew, and when we cut into it with a steak knife, parts of the meat appeared raw, with visible ligaments and uncooked flesh. Matt, our server, was extremely understanding and apologetic. He promptly removed the duck from the bill and even offered a complimentary drink as a gesture of goodwill. I truly believe this was an isolated incident, and we appreciated how it was handled. Thanks to Matt’s professionalism and kindness, we’ll definitely be returning in the future.

I visited Teakwood for Sunday brunch and had a pleasant afternoon catching up with friends from out of town. This was my first time at Teakwood, although I have visited various sister restaurants (Burma Superstar, B Star, Burma Love). This experience felt a bit elevated compared to the other ones I've been to. Decor and ambiance were really nice. The food was well portioned. The milk tea was very sweet and tasted a bit like ice cream. The keema platha was an excellent appetizer to share amongst four. We especially liked the dipping sauce. I preferred the noodles over the duck curry, surprisingly. Cons: I felt the curry was a bit too much, as in the first few spoonfuls were delicious but after a while I could not finish it. Another friend got the chicken curry and similarly, she took most of it to go since it felt too heavy for lunch. Our waiter was friendly, but we reminded them to refill our water many times. Maybe a bigger pitcher for the table was necessary haha Overall, I enjoyed Teakwood. I prefer it to Burma Love but Burma Superstar is still my favorite of the sister restaurants.

This place was great. Keep in mind, you would be better served with a reservation. The mohinga was very delicious. The scallop dish was good along with the tea leaf salad..the cocktail were also very good and the bartenders were great and very good. The decor was very modern but also traditional. It was a tad bit pricey but the affiliated restaurants do a good job of promoting Burmese food.

Absolutely outstanding! I believe this is one of the Burma Love family’s newer outposts, but I’m so incredibly grateful that they brought this little picture of Burma into Hayes Valley. The food is absolutely delicious, the service is on point, and the space is just beautiful. Our server, Matt, was extremely attentive and friendly, as well as quite funny — I appreciate with them dealing with / going along with our shenanigans as we fought for the bill. They were also great at handling dietary restrictions / allergies, although I will note that the menu’s allergy markings are not comprehensive (there were a few items with peanut in the description but didn’t have the little peanut allergen sign marker; I hope there weren’t any where peanuts weren’t mentioned on the menu at all, but just something to watch out for if you have a deadly allergy). Food-wise, we split the tea leaf salad, hawker garlic noodles with shrimp, and Inle fisherman. My favorite had to be the tea leaf salad, a Burmese classic and just such a wonderful symphony of flavors and textures. I love the crunch from the sesame, sunflower seeds, garlic chips, and chickpeas (as well as, if we got them, the peanuts) paired with the freshness of the lettuce and cabbage, plus the slightly pungent / funky, super umami flavor from the shrimp powder and fermented tea leaves. I absolutely love this dish every time I get it, and it’s a must-try at any Burma Love family location if you haven’t had it before. They also mix it for you and explain each ingredient table-side, so it has a fun presentation. For our mains, both the garlic noodles and fisherman were quite tasty! The garlic noodles were super flavorful — certainly very garlicky but also a great hit of umami and salt from the soy sauce — and the shrimp was sweet, juicy, and tender. The noodles to err a bit on the greasy side, so I think they’re a great item to split but I would personally feel a little heavy / uncomfortable if that was all I had. The sliced cucumbers on top were a lovely pop of freshness to balance out the grease, though. I think if I had saved some of the tea leaf salad to eat alongside the noodles then that would’ve been perfect. I also really enjoyed the Inle fisherman; the cod was very flakey and tender (although certainly on the fishier side, if you’re less comfortable with strong fish flavor), and it had a great flavor from the slightly sweet, sour, salty, and spicy sauce and roasted heirloom tomatoes. The fish was paired with a wedge of cabbage, which might have been one of my favorite things that night. The cabbage was very tender but still had a good level of crunch, and it was topped with a delightfully umami, not too spicy chili crisp. All in all, such a wonderful spot for dinner! I thoroughly enjoyed my meal at Teakwood and cannot wait to come back!

First time having Burmese cuisine, the style is kind of blending a bit of everything from nearby countries such as India, Thailand, and China. Tea leaf salad is a must-order, the taste of the dressing is new to me and delicious; Mohinga is the most typical Burmese dish, the broth has the flavor closer to Thai, and the rice noodles are similar to Chinese style, overall tastes pretty strong and savory The platha stuffed with jack cheese and beef is the one I don’t like the most, as the cheese really makes it taste a lot more greasy, the flatbread itself is okay

So this place used to be called citizen cake a while back. Now that I ate at Teakwood, I would say you can NOT have your cake and eat it too. From the start, yes the place is cozy nicely decorated and inviting. The wait staff ranged from friendly to a bit clueless, but then it was a Sunday evening and maybe they were tired. It's just if you pack 7 ppl on to a table that can barely accommodate 6 then you better tend to the empty dishes fast otherwise dinning becomes a challenge. The food: The appetizers were overall nice, with the roti being spot on. The tea leaves salad worked but is far second to some of the other Burmese places I ate at. The scallops were beautiful, the correct temperature, and melted on the tongue. The calamari were under cooked and therefore chewy, it was a good workout for my chaw muscle. The mains.... I don't know why so many restaurants perform on appetizers but fall short on their mains. None of the dishes besides their presentation is worth a second attempt. The pork belly was too sweet like it took a dip in a sugar glaze. The fish, yes crisp and soft but buried in spices. Hint for the chef, bring the spices to the side and let the fish dominate that way one can experience both flavor ranges. The Duck curry... Mmm there was something off, neither ingredient brought out the potential of this dish. So it goes on and on. Great presentation but none of the dishes did a tribute to Burmese cooking or the California cuisine. Sad but we tried.

Yelp
My first Burmese experience and what an experience it was! Teakwood is a modern and chic restaurant perfect for date night or a group dinner. We started off with some delicious cocktails including some great NA options. I loved that they had such a wide range of asian inspired cocktails served in beautiful different glasses. As I learned, like any great Burmese meal, we started with a tea leaf salad. I've had tea leaves in Hawaiian food but never in a salad. It was so delicious. The salad itself has greens and some crunchy bits, but the tea leaves are cooked and add a nice complexity and texture to the dish. Because there was a large group of us, we were able to order a bunch of items to share. We had both the chicken and duck curry, roti, eggplant, noodles and fried rice. Honestly, everything was so good! The food was incredibly flavorful and rich and full of spices. I don't know that I could pick a favorite or even a stand out given how great everything was. I'm definitely in search of more Burmese food after eating here. I loved the complexity of the dishes and the depth of all the flavors we ate. I'd love to return!

Yelp
My experience at Teakwood left me ambivalent. Came for a Wednesday night dinner with a friend and hung out at the bar while I waited for him to show up because of a BART delay. I was one of maybe 3 people seated at the bar and 1/6 parties in their fairly large restaurant. Decor was modern and rustic enough to match their claims of "upscale [insert ethnic group] cuisine". Service was okay, bordering on terse. Duck Curry: $33 for an unevenly cooked duck breast the size of my palm in a fairly standard yellow curry base whose only redeeming factor was the sugar-sweet summer squash. I love duck as much as the next guy, but when the middle is cooked through to medium rare and the tail end is rubbery and still quacking, I'll have questions. Also, there was hardly any curry - just enough to appease the eyes by covering the bottom of the plate and not doing anything for the stomach. Superstar Fried Rice ($29): This was a great fried rice. It was flavorful, it had well-proportioned ingredients, it was pretty. However, it is also kind of where I draw the line. There are dishes you can only "elevate" to a certain point before you begin questioning if what you're paying is worth it and fried rice is one of them. Conceptually, I don't think this dish deviated positively enough from its humbly satisfying predecessor to warrant its price. Happy i tried it, but I don't think I'll return.

Yelp
Unfortunately, my experience at Teakwood was pretty disappointing. From the start, things were off -- one of my friends was given a cup with a lipstick stain still on it, and another friend had to ask for new utensils because of dried food stuck on the fork. Not the best first impression, especially before we even got our food. We ordered the tea leaf salad, platha, and rainbow popiah, which arrived after about 20 minutes. These dishes were actually pretty solid -- the salad was fresh and flavorful, and the rainbow popiah was light and tasty. The portions were on the smaller side, and we finished those quickly, but then had to wait another 20 minutes for the next dish: the aged duck curry. The duck curry ended up being my favorite -- rich and comforting -- but again, the portion was small and kind of bare. Just a few pieces of duck lined up on one side of the plate, with no veggies or anything else in the curry itself. For the price and the long wait, it felt underwhelming. The final dish to arrive was the short rib khao soi, and it sadly missed the mark. The flavor just wasn't there -- it lacked depth and richness and didn't feel worth the wait or the cost. We dipped the platha in the duck curry, which was a great combo, but after all five dishes, we left still hungry and ended up getting more food elsewhere. We thought about ordering more, but waiting another 20-30 minutes for another small, pricey plate didn't seem worth it. The interior is beautiful -- soft lighting from shaded windows, a striking bar with liquor bottles neatly stacked -- so it might be a nice spot for a date night or a small party of 1-2. But for groups, or if you're looking to leave full and satisfied, this probably isn't the place. To top it off, we were handed a postcard with a giant food stain on the back when we left -- which felt weirdly on-brand after starting the meal with dirty utensils and a stained cup. I'm not sure if we just had bad luck that day, but I wouldn't come back. I'd love to explore other Burmese spots in SF instead -- I know there are better ones out there.

Yelp
Date: Tuesday, May 27th, 2025 Meal: Lunch Delivery Party of: 2 Time Ordered: around 2:30pm Time Arrived: around 3pm Delivered: via DoorDash *TEA LEAF SALAD ($21) - NO PEANUTS *COCONUT CHICKEN CURRY ($26) I adore salads. Especially a tea leaf salad. But I'm not a fan of peanuts. For some reason, most Burmese places on DD don't have a no peanut option or they have turned off notes. Luckily Teakwood is one spot that has a no peanut option. The salad was a good size. I liked the combo of chewy, crunchy, spicy, fishy, etc. Give me all the flavors! I do like a lot of jalapenos and greens in my tea leaf salad, so I added some peppers and green leaf lettuce to the dish. They did provide two sides of fermented tea leaf, so that was enough for the added ingredients. The hubby ordered the curry. He found it a lil too sweet for his liking. Otherwise, it was fine. He made his own short grain rice to pair with it. Slightly pricey for delivery, but at least I can get my tea leaf salad without peanuts. If other spots did this, I would order from them too! Yelp
We came here with two kids for dinner before the symphony. I like Burmese food and it's been a while since I've been to one. To find out that it was the same owner as the Burmese Superstar, I was excited. However, I thought the menu was a bit limited. Their Tea Salad was wonderful but what happened to the rainbow salad? I couldn't order much for the kids except garlic noodles and the paratha. We also ordered some drinks, chicken curry, fiery tofu, and for desert lava cake. Those were great and kept us really full with leftovers. The service was wonderful. All the folks that helped us were friendly and attentive. The food came out relatively quick. We enjoyed our time here.

Yelp
I love Burmese food but after having Teakwood, I CRAVE Burmese food!! First off, the ambience is fabulous. Love the decor and the table settings. Asian yet modern. Very clean and gorgeous inside. Service was great! Our waiter was amazing and recommended fantastic dishes. Food came out timely and every dish was beautifully plated. For drinks we ordered the Broken Compass and Purple Mist. Exotic looking beverages that pack a punch! Very tasty indeed. For starters we had: Tea Leaf Salad: My all-time favorite Burmese salad and Teakwood's version did not disappoint. I love all the colors and textures! And I love how they mix it all up at the table. Samusas: Flavorful with the right amount of heat Hen of the Woods: Uh-mazing!!!! I love mushrooms. This dish tempura'd these maitake mushrooms to perfection! Right amount of crisp without it being greasy. Perfection! Rainbow Popiah: Didn't know what to expect but it certainly did not disappoint. What a beautiful and delicate veggie roll with fantastic flavors. For dinner, our table shared: Coconut Chicken Curry: Tender pieces of chicken with an amazing curry. I could slurp this sauce like a soup. So good over the Jasmine rice too! Lemongrass Steak: Another hit at the table! The thinly sliced beef was cooked perfectly with aromatic flavors. We couldn't get enough! Hawker Garlic Noodles: Delicious and full of flavor Superstar Fried Rice: Well done! The desserts... Mango Sticky Rice and the Chocolate Lava Cake -- I have no words! The two we ordered have been the best we've had hands down!!! I need to come back!!!

Yelp
The ambiance and presentation of food & drinks here is truly up-scale and immaculate. I think it's a bit overrated and overpriced, but it was still quite an enjoyable experience. What we ordered: + Purple Mist [5/5] + Letters from Myanmar [5/5] + Aged Duck Curry [4/5] + Branzino [5/5] + Mango Sticky Rice [4/5] For the cocktails: I thought the Purple Mist [5/5] was really delicious. It was refreshing and sweet , and I would definitely order again! The Letters from Myanmar [5/5] was strong and bitter, exactly what it describes on the menu! For the Aged Duck Curry [4/5]: I thought this was pretty good! I would've liked the curry to be thicker and more flavorful, and the duck wasn't as tender or salty as I usually like it either. The portion size is good! All in all, I've had better duck curries for a better price point. For the Branzino [5/5]: My partner and I both agreed this was DELICIOUS. It was such an impressive presentation, and good portion size for the price point. We thought it was quite worth it! I do love a good branzino. For the Mango Sticky Rice [4/5]: I thought this was really good except for the candied mangos on top, and the small portion size! Overall, Teakwood is an impressive high-end restaurant with beautiful and tasty dishes, but you'll definitely need to drop some money to afford it!

Yelp
Wow! I was so pleasantly surprised by my experience at Teakwood! I did not realize how beautifully decorated and sleek this restaurant would be inside. We ordered the lemongrass steak and garlic noodles to share and both were so flavorful and delicious! My favorite was the steak because it was perfectly cooked, spicy, and had the right amount of acidity. The service was also excellent with our waiter making sure to ask about allergies and being informed about ingredients in different dishes. There are so many more items on the menu I look forward to trying!

Yelp
I attended a private dinner here with work colleagues, and the entire experience was exquisite. From the elegantly moody decor to the elevated comfort food it couldn't have been better. When we arrived, we were treated to cocktails by our excellent bartender. I had a lychee martini which was sooo good. The cocktail looked sweet, but it was actually quite savory. Soon we were treated to samosa-like appies and fresh salads before the main courses arrived. From noodles to eggplant to chicken skewers, the food was all delicious - like a cross between Thai and Indian foods, is how I can best explain it. At the end, we shared freshly baked lava cakes with ice cream and fruit. I had such a nice time here! My only regret is I didn't have time to return on my short trip to SF. This is definitely on my list for my next visit!

Yelp
This was my second time at a Burma-Love restaurant and it did not disappoint! After having their tea leaf salad over a year ago, I've only been dreaming (and drooling) about having it again. Luckily it was as tasty as I remembered it--definitely cannot come here without ordering it! We also shared the Chicken Coconut Curry with jasmine rice, which was delicious. Needless to say, our plates were left clean. This location was super nice, comfy chairs and beautiful decor. Service was great! Would absolutely come again!

Yelp
Ok this place is GOOD the ambiance is VIBEY and the food is BOMB. But I'm still left with this one question: what's the difference between Burma love and teakwood? I got the garlic noodles, tea leaf salad (a MUST), and the eggplant. I liked all of them but would say I had better tea leaf salads at other Burmese restaurants (and liked Burma Love's more?). The eggplant was spicy with a good kick, and the garlic noodles had great flavor. Impressive presentation for all 3 dishes. With all the amazing Burmese places in the city, what is special about the place is its location. I like how centrally located it is, with the bustle of Hayes valley and shoppers and boutiques nearby. The food is quite expensive, but it is a nice spot you can use with the doordash dine-in discount. Overall, solid new Burmese option but I still liked the authenticity and fuller selection in the menus at the other Burmese restaurants in the city. Hint: it you really crave good good Burmese food, my fav spot is Mandalay in the Richmond.

Yelp
From the moment the three in our party entered we knew it would be a great experience. We were greeted by the hostess and although we did not have a reservation full service was available at the bar. The lighting and decor was vibrant but not overwhelming. The bar was the ideal seating option for viewing what others ordered and the servers at the bar were extremely attentive. We tried the roti, black cod, eggplant and tea salad. We also enjoyed cocktails Smoky Desmond and the Purple Mist and the Burma Ale. Highly recommend! Hope to return soon!

Yelp
What a lovely space. Yummy cocktails, a modern take on Burmese food with a Thai twist provided by their new chef. I loved the tea salad but wish it had been a bit larger portion. Flavor was outstanding as was fish. Can't wait to come back and try more things.

Yelp
My bf and I were super excited to finally try Teakwood after passing by it so many times whenever we're in the area! We each got our own Burmese Treasure Box -- I got the fiery braised tofu for my entree and he got the coconut chicken curry for his. The tea leaf salad was refreshing and light. The tea flavor didn't seem too strong so it could've had more tea leaves, but it was a good start to our meal. The samusas had a nice crunch and paired well with the tangy pickled mixture that came with them. For the main part of the meal, we definitely made good choices for our entrees. The fiery tofu had a nice firm bite to it and was covered in a deliciously sweet yet slightly spicy sauce. The chicken in the coconut curry was tender and had just the right amount of sweetness to it. The curry mixed with the warm rice was super satisfying and was perfect for a cold sf day. As someone with many food allergies, Im always cautious when eating out at Asian restaurants, but I thought they were pretty accommodating with different dietary restrictions. Our server was attentive to both mine and my bf's allergies, which is always great to see! It was also nice that some dishes had the option to be made vegan, as this worked in my favor because I had to get vegan version of the tea leaf salad which was still tasty. Overall, my bf and I were pleasantly surprised and enjoyed our meal. We left with full stomaches and leftovers that were just as delicious the next day. Getting 3 different dishes for a decent price was such a steal, and they were all actually tasty! Their interior was so cute & modern and the ambiance was great, even for a chill weekday lunch. I'd definitely go back to try the rest of their menu!!!

Yelp
It was my first time coming for SF Restaurant Week. My friend and I chose the prix-fixe dinner menu, which included a starter, entrée, and dessert for $75 each. We also ordered a tea leaf salad separately. For starters, we had the tuna tartare and the stuffed chicken wings. Our entrées were the braised beef tongue and the pork cheek curry, and we each had a Meyer lemon tart for dessert. They forgot our asparagus side, but we didn't mind--we were already so full from everything else! The food was incredibly tasty, the ambiance was lovely, and the service was great. I'd definitely come back to try more of their menu.

Yelp
I have been eager to try this new Burmese restaurant in Hayes Valley, and it completely met my expectations. The restaurant is in a great location with a lovely ambiance and modern interior. It's perfect for a date night or dining with a group. For drinks, we ordered the Makrut Spritz and Island Haze IPA. The Makrut Spritz had a lime and ginger flavor making it a refreshing cocktail. For our entrées, we ordered the garlic noodles, 48 hour braised pork belly, and coconut chicken curry. All of these dishes were fantastic! It was just the two of us dining this time. But if we were with a larger group, I would love to try the Tea Leaf Salad, Platha, Short Rib Khao Soi, and Branzino. The menu items are pricey. But they do offer good portion sizes for the entrées. We'll definitely be back to try the other menu items!

Yelp
Came here on a busy Friday and was sat pretty quickly. The hostess and waiter were kind and was always checking in to see if we were okay. We got two drinks, a lychee martini and some mango spicy drink(I forgot the name) but both were pretty good and kind of strong. For food, I wanted to try the samosas and only really came in to check the place out since I like Burma love. Samosas were nothing special but still good. Overall, would check it out again if I'm in the area.

Yelp
My friend and I stopped by Teakwood after learning of it from a Yelp Elite event. While I wasn't one of the event attendees, I was curious to try another Burmese spot in the city. Worth the drive! We made a reservation for Sunday evening-- bustling with energy upon arrival! Seems quite popular already. The interior is modern and intimate, air buzzing with the hum of conversation. Service is attentive & courteous, but a bit slow. MAKRUT SPRITZ: Refreshing yet strong (IMO)! SAMUSAS: Delicately fried with savory, fluffy filling-- some of the lightest samosas I've had. Two pieces are plenty. Good to whet your appetite GARLIC NOODLES: Super QQ noodles! The sauce is mouthwateringly good. Not greasy at all. EGGPLANT WITH GARLIC SAUCE: Literally melts in your mouth. While the noodles were barely glazed with garlic, this was heavier, much more decadent. A nice treat. AGED DUCK CURRY: My weakness... A good duck curry :') Holy cow is this good. Must-try if you love that gamey, rich flavor but amplified. The curry itself is sweet, complements the meat well, but the aged duck is to die for. I have yet to be disappointed by a Burma Love concept.

Yelp
I don't know if I've ever had such a wide sampling of Burmese food before but now that I have, I'm certainly seeking it out in my home city of San Diego. Needless to say, I've already found a few places in town that I'm going to be visiting and spending my money at. Thank you for opening my eyes, Teakwood! Our group was treated to a "buffet" style to start our night with appetizers that were self-serve. The salad was so good that I went back for seconds... don't judge me. When seated we had several sharable portions brought out to the table suitable to feed about 4 people comfortably. The lemongrass steak was so damn good with the chicken skewers coming in as a runner up. You know what really blew me away though? The sparkling water. Yep, leave it to me to find my new favorite sparkling water at a Burmese restaurant. If/when I come back, I'm going straight for the salad, followed by the steak, and washed down with a bottle of Vellamo (from Finland) sparkling.

Yelp
Vibes? Check. Upscale, hip, great music, dark but bright. It's got classy vibes. Service? Check. The team was so helpful from planning a dinner event. Food? Swoon. THAT STEAK. The tea leaf salad. The cocktails. But, let's talk about that steak. It was melt in your mouth. The curry was spicy and quite delicious. Overall, I'll be back again when needing a spot to eat in the 'hood. If you're looking for a nice corporate group dinner option, this was so good and very easy to work with. Big fan. Thanks Teakwood!

Yelp
Teakwood is one of those upscale places that's perfect for a night out with the dimly lit interior and upscale ambiance.. but it might be just that. I grabbed 2 seats at the bar for food and drinks but definitely recommend a table for more comfortable seating. The bartenders are awesome and put out photogenic cocktails. The burmese iced tea was refreshing, but they put a ton of ice in it so it was gone before mid-meal.. Gotta have tea leaf salad when eating Burmese. The portion is perfect to share, but I wouldn't say it was "tossed tableside" like how it says on the menu. It was crunchy, nutty, but needed more of the fermented tea leaf flavor. My jaw was a little tired afterwards, haha. I also enjoyed the mohinga and thought it was nicely spiced but wish it had more rice noodles. The fish in the mohinga was flaky and fresh. We did not enjoy the hawker garlic noodles as it just tastes like regular soy sauce chow mein. I've had way more flavorful and garlicky noodles at seafood places. Seemed like there wasn't any chopped garlic at all, just toasted garlic chips.. Which is disappointing. I see other patrons order mostly appetizers so perhaps that is the selling point along with their cocktails.

Yelp
Nice recommendation by friends . Service was fast and courteous . Meal was delicious . We ordered one set lunch with curry chicken, tea leaf salad, samosas. And one ginger salad . More than enough for two . Definitely coming back . Small negative .... My fork was definitely not washed properly

Yelp
Alright, so an easy five-stars but I have to air a grievance here... why aren't you in my hometown, Teakwood?!? Such great food and vibes, and yet so many thousands of miles away. If you're not as familiar with Burmese cuisine like myself, there are going to be better sources to explain it, but what I would succinctly say is it's some soft of magical combo between Thai cuisine and Indian cuisine. Fresh, flavorful, and many many options to choose from. We came here as a smaller group and loved everything that was offered. Tea Leaf salad, samosas, fancy cocktails, veggie green curry, coconut rice, chicken skewers, and more. There was a lot of good convo and catching up, so I can't say I paid as much attention to the meal as I might always, but all I remember is that delicious item after delicious item kept arriving. Service was on point. For my drink, I ordered the High Tide which has chili infused tequila, tamarind, basil agave, and red chili sea salt. Delicious, but spicy! One of my coworkers got a kick out of me nearly choking with each sip as I tried to balance convo and a surprisingly spicy lil drink. My next night was at another Burmese restaurant, so it's clearly in my wheelhouse. Already looking forward to my next time in here.

Yelp
I'm giving it a little benefit of doubt by giving it 4 instead of 3 stars. Interior wise, well decorated place with a good vibe where it is not too loud but also people are having conversations and an overall good time. We started with the tea salad which, hot take, wasn't that flavorful to me? That might be the nature of the tea salad though where it's a more delicate flavoring, and we did get it vegan so it is probably more flavorful with the shrimp powder had we included that. I did appreciate that they mix at at the table and there is a variety of texture with nuts and other crunchy bits included. Our favorite dishes were the garlic noodles (great chewy noodle texture and garlic flavor) and surprisingly the stir fried tofu side (very delicious sweet and savory flavor). The short rib khao soi is not a bad choice either. However, the garden green curry was disappointing despite multiple Google reviews saying to get it. It lacked the flavor I would normally associate with green curry, to the point where we ended up asking for salt to season it which I can't remember the last time I've had to do at a restaurant. Hopefully it was just an off day but it was definitely rated the lowest of the dishes we had at this meal. The servers are polite, we did have to waive them down for water since we kept emptying the water pitcher, but otherwise they were good about our requests for extra bowls and napkins and such.

Yelp
We had a lovely group dinner here to kick off our annual team conference. We out-of-towners are jealous of San Fran's vibrant Burmese food scene. The evening kicked off with drinks- their menu had a fun variety of Burmese inspired flavors (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic). From there, we enjoyed a mini buffet of appetizers including a salad and roti. This ended up being quite the feast with probably 8+ dishes sampled in whole. Green curry, lemongrass steak, eggplant, coconut rice, and so on. I especially loved the salad and the cake/ice cream desert (I wish I had the exact name- the texture was so lovely). Last but not least, the atmosphere was so lovely. The decor, the lighting, etc. It made for a perfect evening.

Yelp
I was simply blown away by my recent experience at Teakwood. You will always have me at "Burmese," and Teakwood is no exception, from its sumptuous ambience (soaring ceilings, beautiful Asian artwork, teal walls and gold accents) to the personable service to the unique takes on classic Burmese dishes. But don't worry, the flavors that you know and love are going to be present in every dish. We had a large group dinner for around 15 people in the main dining area by the bar and it was the perfect environs for us, enough space to move freely in a cocktail hour style moment before we sat down to a family style dinner. The food here is delicious, from the tea leaf salad to the samusas to the green curry to that insane coconut rice (don't sleep on this!) but what I truly appreciated was how conscientious they were about our group's dietary restrictions and allergies. The Burma Superstar/Love family of restaurants always comes through for me and I'm now a diehard fan. In fact, I visited BL just three nights later. Not sure which one I love most (I think BL has more vegan options, including my all time fave, the samusa soup). Putting Teakwood on my list for next time I'm in SF!

Yelp
Service and decor are super classy and the cocktails are 5/5, absolutely delicious. Cocktails: Fiery mango: fruity, spicy, fresh. Lichee express; fruity, bright, rich. Can't speak on the main courses but I did try the Birria quesadilla which was very rich and delicious, however it was a tad too greasy for my tummy! Stay away if you're sensitive to a rich/fatty dishes. If you're made of steel than definitly give it a go and share with a dinner mate!

Yelp
My partner and I have been wanting to try this place for a while and finally got around to it today! There seemed to be a long wait as they estimated a 55 minute wait time, but we were able to get the lower bar seating to avoid the wait time. The lighting was quite nice and each table had a good amount of spacing in between. My partner ordered the Mohingha rice noodle and the Burmese milk tea and I got the Inle fisherman with a Burmese lemonade. We also got the tea leaf salad as a starter and the drinks and salad arrived pretty quickly after! Our waiter was the bartender and he was friendly, but was quite curt to some of the customers. Drinks: 3/5 The milk tea and lemonade we got were pretty average. Nothing different from the norm that stood out Tea leaf salad: 4/5 Our favorite dish from here! It was very nicely seasoned and a good portion. We just wished there was a bit more tea leaf Mohinga rice noodle: 1/5 We were very excited to try this dish as it seemed to be a popular choice among most yelp reviews. It was quite oily and bland and we sadly had to request salt to add some taste to it. The curry flavor wasn't very strong and it tasted a bit like watered down curry :( Inle fisherman: 3/5 The fish was very nicely cooked and the sauce was delicious! It is definitely a bit on the spicier side which I liked, but it was a bit too hot for my partner. The fish was definitely the highlight, but the surrounding vegetables didn't really stand out to me. The fish was accompanied by grilled/roasted cabbage, tomatoes, and mixed greens. The sauce gave the tomatoes a nice flavor and the cabbage had a nice smokiness. The mix greens were pretty average and didn't add much to the dish. Though I enjoyed the cabbage, it took up half the dish and I ended up eating a bite or two of it before I was over it. Overall, I am definitely glad we got to try it, but we have definitely have had good or even better Burmese food at a lower price point. The entire meal came out to be around $115 with tip which is not too bad, but the fish dish alone was $30 for a small piece of fish and a quarter of cabbage. We would likely only come back for the tea leaf salad.

Yelp
I've been a fan of Burma superstar although their quality has been going down. So I was excited to hear this new upscaled location was opened by the same owner. Overall Food, cocktails, service are all p good but smaller portion for $$$. We sat at bar and cocktails we tried were all good, I had lychee espress and passionista, which wasn't on menu anymore, but our bartender was nice enough to make one. For food, we ordered tea leaf salad, Branzino (expensive for portion), eggplant (salty by itself from miso so order with rice!) and garlic noodle. They are all good except garlic noodle didn't taste like garlic noodle, but more like noodle you get from street food with soy sesame flavor. The restaurant ambience is nice for date night and packed on the weekend so make reservation in advance!

Yelp
Food: Tasty and satisfying, though not particularly memorable. Good variety across the menu. Ambiance: Warm and inviting--great for date nights or casual outings with friends. Service: Friendly and helpful, but could be more attentive. Overall, I'd say it's a solid choice with a nice atmosphere and diverse menu. Worth a visit!

Yelp
Had a reservation with a group of friends and we decided to go family style. So many great options at Teakwood that it was hard to choose. Highlights of the night were the garden green curry and the roti. There was a lot of thought put into what vegetables were in the curry and also how they prepared and cooked the vegetables. If you have had roti before--I don't think I need to explain why roti is such a hit. If you haven't tried roti before--100% recommend. The mango lassi was also really delicious and cut through some of the spice. It was like dessert in a drink. The price wasn't too bad for dinner. It came out to under $60 per person for a group of 5. The portions were perfect for sharing and we didn't even have room for dessert at the end of the meal.

Yelp
I came here for a company team lunch and was pretty disappointed by the food despite having high hopes. The pros was that it's a cute restaurant with very friendly staff, and the ability to make reservation online made it easy for a group lunch. Food wise, I have to say it was okay. We ordered roti with curry which was a little on the harder side, tea leaf salad, and a soup noodle dish. Everything wasn't super flavorful compared to other Burmese food places. I probably won't come back but if you need an easy restaurant to book online this could be an option.

Yelp
Enjoyed our pre opera dinner on Saturday at this beautiful restaurant! Two of us walked in about 5pm without a reservation. The hostess told us in a very polite and kind tone that we could be seated at a table but only until 6:25, so we took it. Tea leaf salad and lemongrass steak were perfect portion for two and delicious. Very convenient location, attentive staff, tasty food. It was a wonderful way to start our opera night. I would definitely go again. Thank you!!

Yelp
After we saw the ldomeneo opera at the War Memorial Opera House, my friends saw Teakwood in the search of restaurant near the opera house. We walked in and got the table by the window. It was our first time dining at this restaurant. I was impressed with the dining room ambiance. Our server was very pleasant and patient. For drinks we just ordered hot water with lemon and beer for my other friend. For appetizers we ordered the popular Tea Leaf Salad, Roti Platha with coconut curry dip, Plancha Calamari. The server tossed the salad on the table side. He told us what he was tossing. For main course, we ordered the eggplant + garlic sauce with a bowl of rice and garlic noodles. We enjoyed the savory of Burmese food, however, the salad had the kick. The calamari was served small & different from what we expected. The Burmese food we ate had the rich flavor. For dessert we had the mango sticky rice. I don't mind returning when there is any opera show only.

Yelp
Had a good time at this Burmese restaurant on Monday evening with a friend around 6 pm! They have either walk ins or you can reserve through OpenTable. My friend went ahead and got us a table while I was heading over. Nice interior that's classy and luxurious. Great vibes and it steadily got busier throughout the night. We ordered family style: - Hawker Garlic Noodles: great portion of noodles that were savory with a semi-strong flavor profile of garlic. Great medley of vegetables. - Wok Caramelized Cabbage: interesting flavor profile from the burnt char making it bitter with a sweet glaze from the sauce at the bottom of the dish - Mango Lassi: sweet, acidic from the lime, and refreshing - Burmese Fried Chicken: good portions of 2 chicken pieces that was juicy, crunchy, and succulent Great Burmese place

Yelp
We had a reservation but they made a mistake and gave our table to another person. However, they quickly fixed up another table for us. Food was a bit disappointing compared to Burma Love -- every dish was too salty. Our favorite dish was the pork belly with coconut rice! Would probably skip this next time and just go to Burma Love instead.

Yelp
Came here for dinner on a Monday night as a friend had it on her list of places to try! The place was surprisingly crowded for a Monday, but easy to get seated. The ambiance was upscale and very nice, and would make for an excellent date spot! Some of the things we tried: Tea leaf salad: 5/5- SO good!!! Highly recommend Roti platha: 4.5/5, overpriced honestly for what you get (especially charging 6 dollars for the tiny dip?) but tasted good. Fried rice with chicken- 4.5/5 delicious Garlic noodles 5/5- sooo good. Great portion Firey tofu: 4.5- spicy and delicious, a little sweet, large portion. Overall the food was excellent and I would absolutely come again! Prices are expensive but portions are good.

Yelp
I was really hoping to like this place a lot better however, I had such a bad experience. Being a huge fan of Burmese food I was excited to try this place but right off the bat when we got there, we were told they were fully booked for the evening. But then another woman told us that it would be at least a 30 minute wait and that we could get added to the waist list. We were told two different things by the two hosts who seemed to not know what they were doing. We then waited at the bar for over 30 mins, while there was a table open the entire time we were there. After pointing the table out, we get sat there 30 mins later... Next, I ordered the garlic noodles with chicken. These were not garlic noodles. It tasted more like soy/sesame noodles. Also there was a piece of chicken I ate that had a bone.. I had to request for them to re make my dish. At that point I kind of just wanted to leave. Also the menus on our table were dirty and had food stains. Overall, a horrible experience. Update: I just went to eat the leftover garlic noodles and the first piece of chicken I ate had a bone in it, I had to spit it out immediately! This is unbelievable. They remade this dish, and still there are chicken pieces with bones?!? Yeah I will definitely not ever be coming back here!!

Yelp
Came here with a reservation and a group of 3 and got seated immediately. Good: - The ambiance was great, it's a beautiful interior and good for catching up with friends - The garlic noodles were a surprise hit of the day! Surprisingly flavorful - The tofu green curry also had a lot of flavor - The roti is always my favorite, so chewy and the sauce elevates the taste Bad: - The tea leaf salad didn't have as much flavor as I thought, at least it's larger in portion size than the ones at other Burma love locations Overall this was a decent experience, good for catching up. More on the $$$ side.

Yelp
My husband and I really enjoyed our meal at Teakwood when we came on a weeknight in late August. I made a reservation two days before coming and we were able to get a reservation at 6:30 pm on a Thursday night. The restaurant is located in Hayes Valley on a busy street. We came in a little earlier than our reservation time and were seated immediately. Our waiter was welcoming and efficient. The ambiance here is chic and trendy. We ordered four dishes to share between us, including the plata, garlic noodles, khao soi, and the popiah. I'm ethnically Burmese and grew up eating Burmese food, so I recognized traditional dishes on the menu. However, Teakwood is a modern Burmese restaurant, much more so than its sister restaurant, Burma Love. So if you're looking for very traditional Burmese food, you won't find it here, but you'll get a very good meal.

Yelp
Grabbed drinks and snacks here a few weeks ago before a show at the Bill Graham! The service was great. I don't remember their name but our server was super helpful and pretty funny! The highlight was definitely the roti platha. The roti was crispy on the outside and nice and pillowy soft on the inside. The curry was so flavorful, perfect for the rainy day we had. As for drinks, I got the passion it's and their espresso martini. Both were great! My only "complaint" would be the prices. I wish there was a happy hour, but the prices weren't too crazy for the city. Overall, I definitely would come back if I have a show at Bill Graham!

Yelp
This place is quite spacious with a refined jungle-y feeling to the restaurant. We ordered a tea leaf salad as well as the chicken coconut curry and both were quite large in portions and delicious in flavors. The service was also kind and quick!

This was AMAZING. I love the ambiance and the food. It is a little more on the expensive side but I would recommend for a cute date anniversary!

Yelp
Recently came by for lunch by myself. I usually have a pretty casual workday lunch unless I'm dining with a colleague friend or a bunch of us go out to celebrate a birthday or something. So coming here was a bit different, but good different. The service was friendly. I am into easy-going vibes and this waiter has it. On this day, I opted for the Burmese Treasure Box ($25.95) which includes a portion of the Tea Leaf Salad (good) and a mini Samusa (it's meh). For the main, I chose the Kebat Shrimp (+$6) (it's okay) and a choice of jasmine or coconut rice, I chose coconut rice. While not the best Burmese food I had, it's a nice addition to Hayes Valley. Hopefully it will improve with time.
