23 Essential Restaurants in the Sprawling San Fernando Valley

"Sabich, schnitzel, challah, shawarma — it’s all possible at Tel Aviv Grill, the Kosher Valley micro-chain that makes some of LA’s best Israeli food." - Virali_Dave, Jessie Evans

Tel Aviv Grill Review - Encino - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"Tel Aviv Grill is an Israeli mini-chain with locations dotted across the Valley. Their flagship in Encino looks like any other fast-casual lunch counter, but the quality of the food here stands out like a pair of Crocs at a wedding. As early as 11am, a line forms out front for their shwarma, schnitzel, and skewers served with a multicolor assortment of Israeli salads and dips. You'd have a great meal here if you just close your eyes at picked from behind the counter at random, but our go-to is the beef shawarma pita stuffed with generous portions of shaved, marinated meat, garlicky yogurt, cabbage, pickles, and chopped salad." - Nikko Duren

Delicious Israeli Mediterranean food. I really enjoyed the Sabich plate - it was actually 2 plates of food! 2 hard boiled eggs, lots of grilled eggplant, hummus, tahina, salads, cabbages, pickles, then a second plate with fries, fried eggplant, and pita. My husband got schnitzel in laffah, which was a big sandwich wrap, and also came with a side of fries, but the salads were only in the wrap, not on the side, like in a plate version. Still, tons of food. Everything was fresh and yummy.

Google
What an experience !! First time to Tel Aviv grill and the food was a mouthful, no pun intended ☺️. Large portions and get plenty of delicious food for your moneys worth . Of course you can choose your portion based on your hunger level . I had the pita which sufficed by hunger . One can also order a Laffa, baguette and a plate . I must say the plate looked amazing and will try it next time . The place is on a busy strip mall, but has dedicated parking spots upfront and plenty of parking behind. Must try . Enjoy 😉

Google
Its a self serve, self select eating establishment. The portions at a plate level are huge and quite frankly big enough for 2 people. The smaller options are the lava? which is the Israeli version of a burrito and is still huge and the pita which is 3/4 size of the lava. I had the falafel which came with a couple of salads and optional additions such as sauerkraut and red cabbage you can also add French fries and baked eggplant pieces. Suggest you stay inside if the weather is warm but the patio has more seats but less cooling. Food is superb!

Google
I love this place. The best opportunity to have a delicious middle eastern meal, and it being kosher is a huge bonus point. The food is yummy, portions are huge so you can take home, and they have a great array of meat options (and falafel). The service was good and speedy, but the place is generally packed when I go with my family. So I recommend going in not packed hours. You should 100% come and eat here!!! You will not regret it! 🤩🤤🤤

Google
October 13, 2024 Great place to eat Israeli food. They're foods are also Kosher. Their meats are freshly grilled and their salads are also fresh as well as their hummus. Everything is freshly made! The area is clean and nice and it's busy. This place is good for family dinners, date, or any occassions. I would defenately comeback and refer this place to my friends and families.

Google
Tel Aviv grill made me feel as if I was eating in a restaurant in Israel. The food was fresh and very tasty. The dish was very well priced and the quantity was more then satisfactory. The wait time was less then expected and the staff didn’t give a limit to the amounts of salad I could choose. Everything was delicious and plentiful. I will definitely be coming again. Two thumbs way up.

Definitely a must if you love Mediterranean food - shawarma in particular.

Yelp
I am obsessed with Tel Aviv grill and this location is particularly good! If you love Israeli food this is the place to go in LA! They have everything from chicken shawarma to ribeye skewer to schnitzel to falafel for all the vegetarians out there. Prices are a little high, generally in the mid to high 20s. You can get either a pita, laffa (wrap), baguette, or plate (with rice), filled with the proteins above and your choice of spreads and veggies. That being said, the amount of food you get in one order is big enough to serve 2. So come hungry and expect to take some food to go. You order at the counter, then go to the sides station where they make your plate just how you like it. You can fill your pita or wrap with hummus, tahini, veggies, and hot sauce if desired. All orders come with a side of fries and fried eggplant. The thick-cut fries are perfectly lightly fried and well seasoned with salt. They are honestly some of the best Fries I have ever had! I usually get their chicken breast; it's always so juicy and perfectly grilled. Their chicken shawarma is also good if you like the crispy bits. The restaurant has indoor and outdoor seating which is great if you have pets. The staff was very friendly and it's nice because you get to serve yourself. Great for a quick bite and go.
google avatar

Hanh N.

Yelp
Food was superb. The guys at the station was like artists with their food work of art. We ordered pita with rib eye and laffa house kabob. See the images and videos below. We fell in love with this place and got our stomachs increased by few inches. And did you know that you got 2 free falafel as first time customer?!? Highly recommended

Yelp
One of the FRESHEST and most delicious foods you can have in the valley. The restaurant is VERY clean, including the restrooms. I have never seen restrooms this clean. They offer delicious, fresh kosher food with the highest quality ingredients. It was my first time here and I will definitely be back at least once a week to eat here. I got a chicken breast plate, which is literally a chicken breast they grill infront of you. It can't get any fresher than that. The employees are kind and you can literally customize your plate and add less or more of anything that comes on your plate. My favorite is the red and green cabbage salad and the cucumber tomato salad with the hummus, fries and eggplant. The quality is amazing and you can taste the freshness. I read from another yelped that this is the closest to Israeli food you can get outside of Israel and I definitely agree. Everything here is 10/10

Yelp
The food is always fresh & delicious! Falafels are perfectly seasoned and cooked. The pitas are so soft & tasty. I love the Shawarma! They have the best french fries too! Their fried eggplant is a bit too greasy so I never order that as a side. Service is always good & the wait staff are super friendly. The restaurant has plenty of indoor & outdoor seating. It can get a bit loud when it's super busy. It's our go to restaurant for Falafels.

Yelp
This place was so bland , no season tasted more like French European cuisine, so not recommend

Yelp
This review is LONGGGG overdue!! I've had some serious Yelp writers' block thus far in 2025!! Forgive me, Elite family!! But regarding Tel Aviv Grill... WOW. This place BANGS!!! Some of the best FOOD you'll ever have, period!!! It might be the closest thing to Israeli food outside of Israel you can find!! Nobody better be giving Tel Aviv Grill less than 5 stars!! In a nutshell, every time I'm down south in the Los Angeles area I HAVE to hit up Tel Aviv Grill!!! 'Tel Aviv' is located in Encino (South San Fernando Valley) off Ventura Blvd and inbetween Louise and Amestoy. To be more specific, 'Tel Aviv' is within 'Plaza de Oro,' next to a barber shop and Encino Escrow. The only con of this place is the parking situation is rough. At least out front. Their parking spots are ridiculously narrow. Whomever designed this lot needs to get fired lol. A Prius could barely fit! Makes no sense. There also isn't a lot of space to Reverse. So I'd recommend parking in the back of 'Plaza de Oro' as there is much more availability. One thing to note if you haven't been is Tel Aviv Grill is a 100% Glatt Kosher restaurant. And they observe Shabbat, the Jewish day of rest. So don't come Friday evening or Saturday because they will be closed! 'Tel Aviv' is a casual dining restaurant and there is something here for everyone! For my Middle Eastern/ Israeli food lovers you will be in HEAVEN. When ordering first pick your protein (rib eye, beef shwarma, chicken shwarma, schnitzle, kabab, chicken thigh, or falafel) and then decide how you want to eat it (in a pita, laffa, baguette, or on a plate). When I came here last I opted for their chicken shwarma plate. After you've ordered at the counter you'll head to the "kitchen / plexi-glass area" where you are given your food. A staff-member/ food-prepper will ask what sides you prefer and you'll choose a la Chipotle or Subway. Once your order is complete, grab any available table. But don't forget to get your own silverware and/ or water! 'Tel Aviv' has both indoor and outdoor seating. It is a large facility, but does get busy depending on the time of the day or evening! My chicken shwarma plate came a giant side of hummus, Israeli salad (cucumbers and tomatoes), onions, cabbage, banana peppers, zhug (it's kind've like a spicy chimichurri), egg plant, french fries, AND pita. The portions are HUGE! A TON of food!!! And everything is always EXTREMELY fresh tasting!! Maybe the freshest tasting food I've ever had! My mouth is watering just writing about it!! Each dish is a plethora of flavor!!! The Shawarma is juicy, hummus is creamy, vegetables are crunchy, pita is fluffy... and don't even get me started on their fries. Maybe the BEST french fries I've ever had!!! Everything is absolutely PHENOMENAL here!! And if you've never had Israeli food it'll be a fun experience for you!!! In a nutshell, if you're in the San Fernando Valley and are loooking for some fresh, healthy, and DELICIOUS Middle Eastern food, Tel Aviv Grill is THE spot for you!!! You will NOT leave hungry or disappointed!! And to my LA Elite friends... ship me up a Laffa and I'll Venmo you!! (JK, but not really...) 8000/5 stars!!!

Yelp
Located in an ethnic shopping center, right next to a Russian market, Tel Aviv offers delicious kosher cuisine built on fresh ingredients and gigantic portions. I ordered the laffa sandwich with beef shawarma, and jam-packed with tomato, onion, and pickled vegetables. I worked hard at finishing it, and none of my friends was able to finish their plate. The downside was that it must be seasoned with a lot of salt or MSG, because all of us became extremely thirsty after lunch.

Noa G.

Yelp
Could do significantly better with improved customer service. The girls at the front are always unfriendly and the owner is quite rude. After messing up my order on 2 different occasions I'm choosing to stay away (was given no proper refund and owner was very dismissive). the food is great, not for the price and attitude from staff though!
google avatar

Amantur S.

Yelp
I first went to Tel Aviv Grill 10 years ago. And I went back again 2 weeks ago and so I ordered the chicken plate. That's the most popular item on the menu, it was delicious so flavorful I would go back again again and over and over and over.
google avatar

Linda G.

Yelp
Great place. Highly recommend. Wow. Chicken Shawarma was very moist, huge portion. You can see it all in the pictures. The sabich plate was fine, but really not that special. The eggplant is yummy and that was included. Wraps looked great. The food was a big hit. inside the restaurant was pretty loud so we sat outside. Everyone knew everyone else, was a very friendly place. you could tell it was a favorite of the locals - we were just visiting area. We chose it for the reviews and menu - and it's kosher, too. Which is just an added nice thing. So so good.
google avatar

Joseph J.

Yelp
Always clean fresh amazing food I recommend to anyone good good place to get Shawarma Very fast service as well
google avatar

Adina C.

Yelp
Always hits the spot! Best Israeli/middle eastern food around -- fresh, flavorful, and super satisfying. The portions are generous, the meats are well-seasoned, and the salad bar is full of delicious toppings. This place never disappoints.
google avatar

Regine S.

Yelp
It was so many years I had not been to Tel Aviv Grill! I truly love that Israeli place: it was the first time for my friends to try it, and they all loved it! I'll do your order your food and pay at the register, with your receipt go to the next counter and tell them what selection of vegetables and other items you want.... I have to admit that their service is excellent: the stuff is very friendly and very attentive and professional I had the ribeye plater: I like mine rare and that's exactly how they cooked it to perfection! I also really love the white cabbage salad and red cabbage salad! The portions are so bad that it will be another two meals for me I highly recommend that place but you wanna go probably early almost as early as they open because it gets very crowded especially during the week because of all the offices store employees around there.
google avatar

Yelp
I've had my fair share of Middle Eastern food, and felt that every experience was sort of on the similar side. I was really impressed with the kebab and the chicken plate was that it had a taste into it that was definitely fresher, and felt like it had less preservatives than what I usually get, in other Middle Eastern restaurants But if you like me, and all about the sides, then you're gonna really be blown away. But the red cabbage and regular cabbage slaw are amazing. The peppers, pickles and grilled peppers are amazing and the cucumber salad was sliced in some sort of mandolin which made the texture and bite of the cucumber delicious Also, the pita bread was fluffy unlike any pita bread I've ever had, and it made it really enjoyable. Also, the stick cut fries are something special and amazing about them where they're not like your average fry, it felt more like a In-N-Out fresh fry, but less soggy , I wonder how they do it, it's definitely delicious. The grilled eggplant was also surprisingly nice, I like eggplant and I really enjoyed this eggplant. For the amount of food and sides that's piled on and a price tag of about $30 for each plate. I'd say the value is definitely there. One thing that was noticeably mentionable was the tahini and hummus was served with the hummus on the bottom, and the tahini poured inside the hummus. I wonder if I can ask them to serve it on the side next time. There was something about the hummus that was not the best tasting hummus, and the tahini was not as amazing compared to the rest of the plate, which is kind of a hard ce since I feel like the rest of the plate was absolutely amazing
google avatar

Yelp
Really not good food. Fires are always half cooked. Chicken is disappointing. Falafel is dry. Not going back. Don't get it.
google avatar

Jim G.

Yelp
The rib eye, or any plate for that matter, is massive. Certainly enough to share for two. At $30 I would say it's not cheap, but again split at only $15 is a deal. I wish there was more of the ribeye, but everything was super tasty with a nice variety of flavors. My highlight...We also ordered their falafel which were the best I've had. Nice spice and moist, fried to perfection.
google avatar

Zackary H.

Yelp
The best Mediterranean I've had. Packed but efficient. Friendly staff and friendly people eating here. Huge portions. Will definitely be back.
google avatar

Johnny K.

Yelp
Awesome! I have been there several times and usually order the ground beef kebabs and my wife orders the chicken thighs. The food is fantastic, healthy, and more than you can consume. Service is quick and the chefs prepare everything in the open kitchen.

Nisim S.

Yelp
Great food! Kind service and fresh as always . Will definitely come back again. Highly recommend the beef shawarma
google avatar

Chris R.

Yelp
CHICKEN SHAWARMA!!!! I always order the chicken Shawarma plate. I get everything with it: french fries, eggplant, hummus, all the veggies and I order extra pita bread. The pita bread is cooked fresh daily and oh my God! If you like Israeli food, you gotta get this place into your life!
google avatar

Bianka G.

Yelp
This plate is amazing! So good, huge portions, fresh, and tasty! Let's not forget this place is keeping it Kosher 100%. The price is a little high but having said everything above, it's worth it! For instance, can't go wrong with the half chicken and half shawarma plate. You get the best of both worlds for $26. The plate is loaded with both meats and u can add on the side the cabbage salad, cucumber tomato salad, a pico de gallo, pickles, cilantro, sumac dusted red onions, hummus, and tahini. Then comes the fries, rice, and pita should u need more to grub on. It's a feast no doubt. What I also really really enjoy (me being a spicy food lover), is the green salsa you can add to your hummus and the grilled Serrano peppers you can add to your plate for extra kick! Bomb. So Bomb. I also really enjoyed the falafels here. Perfect texture and flavor. I've had some pretty bad falafels in my life. These are worth trying even if you aren't vegetarian. This place gets really crowded for lunch but the line moves fast. Since u order at the counter and then proceed to one of the service "windows" to watch them prep your plate for you. Pretty efficient. The place is big and clean. , with employees cleaning up and quick to make tables available. PS I did t try to come in one day with my latte in hand, and I wasn't allowed to go in until I was finished with it or I could leave it outside. Again, this place is Kosher. Anyway, come hungry or come as you are and chow down and even take some leftovers.
google avatar

Kevin B.

Yelp
We had to get our Kosher on. My second time here around 2 weeks ago. Me and my work crew stopped here for lunch. I wanted some Chicken Shawarmas. The chicken ones here are real good. I also love the Israeli Salad. Lots of different vegetables and flavors. Prices are not very high. You get more for your money in portion sizes. I recommend Tel Aviv Grill.
google avatar

Nora W.

Yelp
This place is amazing!! The food is absolutely fresh, portions are great, and the atmosphere is wonderful. Been here 2x the last month, inside and outdoor seating is great! Food: 5/5, we got the falafel plate, chicken shawarma plate, and ribeye pita (2 times). Delicious! No words, absolutely amazing Ambiance: 5/5, great as well, love the outdoor seating option as the weather cools down! Service: gotta dock them 1 star but 4/5, first time we were there forgot about the ribeye pita, and waited almost 20 mins for it (normally 5 to cook it up etc). But the guy behind counter forgot, and didn't know what was happening, but nothing to bad! Overall, would give this place a 4.8/5
google avatar

Mayi B.

Yelp
Had a yummy lunch at Tel Aviv. The food is always delicious, with perfect shawarmas and must-try salads. The service is great, the ambiance is nice, and parking is easy.
google avatar

Barbara Carol M.

Yelp
This was my first time trying Israeli food, and I was completely blown away. It's easily one of the best meals I've had in 2025! The food was fresh and flavorful--juicy, perfectly seasoned meats, crisp vegetables, and rich, delicious sauces. The pita bread was soft, pillowy, and the best I've ever tasted. Unfortunately, the experience was marred by the cashier, a blonde girl with a lot of lip filler. When I asked for her recommendations, she was shockingly rude--rolling her eyes, laughing under her breath, and was extremely dismissive. As someone who worked in customer service, I understand everyone has bad days, but her attitude was so unprofessional and disrespectful that it really soured the experience. The food is phenomenal, and I'd come back for that alone, but I hope the service improves.
google avatar

Yuriy Y.

Yelp
Cashier is not nice. Food is awesome. Guys on the are super friendly! Recommend for everyone!
google avatar

Mike G.

Yelp
Always a great time going! They hook it up with the food big time and arguably the best shwarma in the city. I eat here like 3 times a week.
google avatar

Mastaneh H.

Yelp
Very fresh food. Fast service. Place is very comfortable to sit and enjoy. Great Israeli food. I highly recommend this place.

Yelp
Every time we are going to the valley, we stopping by Tel Avid Fish grill to eat a shawarma!! Food is insanely delicious!!! Highly recommended
google avatar

Lissa G.

Yelp
Stopped in for a later lunch after strolling around the LA Zoo for a few hours. Unfortunately, they were out of beef shawarma (and don't serve it with lamb), so Jim G. and I opted to share the Rib Eye Plate. We had to wait about 8 minutes or so for the rib eye to cook, which is totally fine. The plate is massive! All the sides on it, plus eggplant and fries on another plate. We also opted to order a little falafel to taste and they were very tasty! The rib eye was but there wasn't really a lot of it there. I realize it's an expensive meat, but the $30 plate cost is comparably more expensive than the other meats. We shared a bottle of red wine ($37) and chilled out with our friends, who all enjoyed their food, too. Huge parking lot in the back, with just a short walk to get to the front of the shopping center, where Tel Aviv is.

Ala M.

Yelp
We were overcharged on my credit card vs the receipt. The waiter didn't want to give me my receipt until I insisted on it. We ordered for a total of $56.52 vs the credit card charge of $67.82! Please see the receipt vs the transaction. They are bunch of thieves!!!
google avatar

Yelp
Really good food. Excellent service. I'll continue to stop by when driving through the Valley.

Yelp
Food rocks!!!! All of it! Can't go wrong with all the dishes. They are quick and friendly too. Enjoy!

Yelp
I havent had TAG for many years after an experience with their food i had. However, i really, really wanted falafel and i saw that they were one of the places that offered it in the dense pita bread. Man, this was the best falafel pita ive had. Ive tried all the places here in the valley, and none of them used this kind of pita that i enjoy. I have to drive to anaheim for that. I even got a big amba side and that was even good. But wow, this was amazing. Thank you Tel Aviv, ill be back!!
google avatar

Jerry K.

Yelp
We drive 15 miles to get food here. The service is fantastic and friendly. They make plates that are huge and family friendly. You will always leave with food to go there is so much on the plates. I miss the Past manager he was friendly and always came out to say hello. We do miss him... Turtle is we have been there around 5 times since he has not been employed there anymore and the new manager has yet come out to say hello.
google avatar

Yelp
Come hungry, portions are large. However expensive ($22/Per plate approx.), but worth every penny. Will come back!
google avatar

Peter M.

Yelp
Let's face it, not easy to find a superb falafel pita sandwich. But you do not have to go far, the Israeli restaurant, Tel Aviv Kosher Grill on Ventura Blvd in Encino, delivers the best product in the SFV and more. They make their own pita bread, the falafel is cooked in front of you, and their toppings are colorful, fresh and extremely tasty. In addition, there are grilled Serrano chilies, egg plant and French fries, that come with the Falafel Pita. They seem to have done away with their own red hot sauce and only have a green one. But no complaints, that green one packs a heated punch. Tahini and hummus is also well prepared. The pita is assembled to your liking. You have to include the red cabbage, onions, tomatoes and cucumber. Every bite is divine. The eatery also serves different types of Shawarma, kabobs and skewers. Sandwich bread choices in addition to pita are, baguette or laffa. Service is excellent.
google avatar

Lina P.

Yelp
I've heard TEL AVIV GRILL has the freshest, most satisfying shawarma sandwich, and let me tell you - the hype is real! I'm a huge fan of Middle Eastern shawarmas (there are so many variations, right?), and this Israeli spot definitely delivered. The seating area is spacious with plenty of room, and even though it was pretty busy, they kept everything clean and organized. It was a little noisy, but honestly, that didn't bother me at all - just adds to the lively vibe! They load up your pita or plate with tons of meat and as many salads as you can handle. The sandwich? Delicious. Everything else? Also on point. I wouldn't say it's my absolute favorite shawarma, but it's definitely up there. I'll be back for sure!
google avatar

Ezra G.

Yelp
I most say best place to have good Israeli food Everything just great Customer service is grate Try shoarma plate Big plate, solid, hummus, chicken, Shawarma or lamb Shawarma There pita is so good Love it
google avatar

Xavier A.

Yelp
Incredible! Simply, incredible. I have been ordering takeout from these guys for quite some time, and not once, have they left me disappointed. The food is great, the portions are massive, and the service is very friendly. I am literally trying to find a flaw, but it is getting harder to do so every time. I will definitely be coming back, for sure.
google avatar

Tatiana N.

Yelp
We ordered in the restaurant and picked up food to go. We appreciate the service being so helpful with our large order. There was about seven adults who were all pretty hungry, and we ordered six meals, but we very well could've ordered possibly four and it would've been enough for sure. We got mostly the chicken, Shawarma, beef, Shawarma, and falafel. I appreciate how customizable everything is. It made for a wonderful spread for our family.
google avatar

Lisa K.

Yelp
This fulfilled all of my beef shawarma dreams! Perfect combination of flavors, meat was delicious, veggies were fresh and my tummy is so happy. The place has counter service with tons of seating available. 10/10 would recommend.

Yelp
TelaViv has such amazing food. Their portions are huge and the food is so fresh! I catered a small event through them and I had enough food for another party. Everyone absolutely went crazy over the quality, taste and quantity. Ohr was so helpful and kind with my order HIGHLY RECOMMEND TELAVIV!

Yelp
Excellent shwarma. Plate is huge portion enough for 2 hungry people. Nice newer clean restaurant. Good service. Haven't tried other locations.
