Been decades since I was here. Drive past once in awhile, but it seems out of my way. I guess it is, but it's not that far from my house either: 10-15 minutes. As close as any chain.
They just got written up in Food and Wine magazine as being the best pizza in Ohio, and Sweetie said she felt like pizza for dinner, so, why not? Ordered online because it was before opening (4 on a Friday.) That went very well, a little surprising for an old-school place. Basic menu: pizza, subs, spaghetti dinner, salad. We got three small pizzas, plus an Italian sub so I would have leftovers for lunch tomorrow. Pickup was easy; clearly mostly regulars, staff and customers super friendly. Small place, no seats.
The smells in the car and at home were awesome. And the pizza was darn good: thinnish crust, great toppings, great cheese and lots of it. Perfectly cooked. Cut in squares, unless you request otherwise (I chose "bite size cut" for Baby K's, which was perfect; you can also choose "pie cut.")
It's Columbus pizza. IYKYK. If you live here, you've eaten it and probably never realized what it was. It's a very very good version. We all enjoyed ours- K got just cheese, Sweetie added pepperoni, I had sausage and ham. Yummy. Excellent sausage, plenty of it, and big slices of very good ham.
I saved a bit of room to try the sub, and- wow. One of the best subs I've ever had. Good bread, stuffed with great meat. Cooked up just enough. Crispy on the outside of the bread, hot and juicy fillings inside. Again, yum. Double yum. I am full and still want more yum.
We have plenty of leftovers. We'll be back. It's been way too long. There's a reason they've been here forever. It's not fancy, it's just great.
