The Best BBQ in Lockhart, Texas 2024

"If the name Terry Black sounds familiar to you, it’s probably because you’ve gone to town on brisket and ribs at their Austin location on Barton Springs. Terry Black’s is the first place you’ll see (and smell) on the drive into Lockhart, and it’s the best overall spot in town for brisket that melts in your mouth, tender and moist spare ribs, and snappy sausages. And while the focus on excellent meat in Lockhart can mean sides are treated as an afterthought, that’s not the case here. The thick elbows of mac and cheese are glossy, and the creamed corn is a barbecue classics done right. There’s a pretty small indoor dining room if you want to enjoy some air conditioning, but the real action is outside, where you can watch the staff tuck briskets into the pits like they’re being put down for a gentle nap. The Best Barbecue of a Lifetime at Terry Black’s in Lockhart At 70 years old, I’ve eaten my fair share of barbecue from coast to coast, but Terry Black’s Barbecue in Lockhart, Texas, has set a new standard. The brisket was nothing short of perfection—tender, smoky, and flavorful beyond belief. The pork ribs? Absolute heaven. They were so juicy and perfectly seasoned that I found myself savoring every single bite. What made the experience even better was the exceptional service. Katie and Aidan went above and beyond to make me feel welcomed and cared for. They were personable, attentive, and truly passionate about ensuring every guest had an incredible experience. Their kindness added a personal touch that you don’t find everywhere. This meal was the highlight of my trip to Lockhart. Well, almost—because nothing beats meeting my six-month-old granddaughter for the first time. Still, Terry Black’s comes in as a very close second. If you’re in Lockhart and looking for the best barbecue of your life, this is the place. Trust me, it’s worth the trip.

Fantastic BBQ and wonderful service! Our crew had a bit of everything and found the brisket, the beef ribs, and the pork ribs to be really exceptional, with a perfect combination of crispy, fatty, tender, and juicy cuts of meat. Benjamin, one of the pit masters, gave us a tour of the BBQ pit and shared some great stories about how everything works. My only minor critique might be that their sauces are somewhat average. That said, the BBQ is so good, that you won't need any sauce. Highly recommended!

We were on our way to Austin and had to stop by Terry blacks in Lockhart! We got a tour of their smoking pits and even looked at their smoking process of their famous brisket! Veronica at the counter was super friendly and recommended us the best pieces and even gave us burned ends for free! The pork ribs and the brisket was insanely well seasoned and juicy to perfection! I would definitely recommend getting those and try the turkey which was surprisingly moist! Their sides are also well seasoned and definitely try their beans for some extra ranch style flavor! Would recommend anyone who wants to try true Texas bbq to go to Terry blacks in Lockhart! The experience and flavors are worth the trip!

Google
Fantastic place for dinner. When looking for that Texas BBQ, this is your place!!! I had the jalapeño sausage and ribs. With a side of Mac and cheese and corn bread, which is fantastic!!!! The ribs were fall of the bone delicious. The sausage was cooked very well and the meat didn't need any sauce, but the sauce was so dang good I put it on other stuff. We were traveling and a friend who lives local recommended the place so we decided to go here and it did not disappoint!! The temperatures were great so we sat on the patio which was a great as the lights were on and the smell from the smokers was awesome!

My first experience here is what my first time at Smitty's was completely missing: hot and tender meats with comparably delicious sides. The bark and flavor on that beef rib was amazing! Attempting almost 2 lbs of it was either ambitious or crazy, but I assure you none of it went to waste. Turkey was probably top 5 in my book and I really enjoyed the creamy mac and string beans. My most pleasant surprise had to be that creamed corn! I've had it other places, I make it at home, but that subtle cinnamon(just guessing) flavor is a ridiculous new wrinkle that made it addictive. Thoroughly enjoyable eating experience and look forward to the next visit, even if my wallet isn't quite as happy!

Meats are all really nice especially the turkey because it is soo soft and moist. Literally the best turkey I've ever had! All sides are also really nice! There is indoor and outdoor seating and parking area as well. Aidan and Katie were very kind and nice ! :)

Alright folks...theres BBQ, there's Texas BBQ, and then, there is Terry Black's BBQ! They hosted our group for lunch and we were fortunate enough to be able to see how they prepare a brisket and what they look for as they prepare the meat. We got a "pit tour" to see them put the brisket in the cookers, and then, we got to sit down and eat a meal. Best BBQ in Texas! The atmosphere was awesome and our hosts were most gracious! They answered any and all of our questions. Do yourselves a favor, make the drive over to Lockhart, TX and eat at Terry Black's...you will not be sorry!

This is the first time I have tried this location, and I'm glad I did. As soon as I stepped in, I was greeted with a friendly welcoming. I ordered my sides and meats with everyone being so helpful. The Brisket had a nice smoky flavor with a good bark. Ribs were falling off the bone. The sides, ahh, I'm glad I got them all. 3 different sauces that complimented the meats nicely. I will definitely be back again in the near future. Peach cobbler finished me off. Don't forget the sweet tea.

Yelp
Love the Mc & cheese and the staff is very friendly especially the two young lady's Amelia and Katie. They are amazing employees always working with a smile.

Yelp
Great bbq here! We ordered the brisket, turkey and jalapeño cheddar sausage. My favorite was the sausage followed by the turkey then brisket. The best sausage I have had in a bbq restaurant! The service was awesome! Laura, Lisa and Esmeralda were the absolute best and I appreciated how Esmeralda let me sample a few of the sides that I had questions about. The green beans were like none other in any other bbq joint we have been to. The brisket beans were on point! We shared the black margarita and it was outstanding! The atmosphere has a cool vibe and is very open. Everything was easy to find and it was easy to navigate! We have enjoyed our journey of the bbq capitol of Texas. Smitty's is next!

Yelp
I've been told about this spot for a while now and had to come try it out compared to Austin because of how much better the environment feels! I wasn't rushed and the service was great and the food was better! Thanks to Lisa for the time to not rush my older parents and Nick for being extra friendly and taking time out of his day to involve us and greet us when we got there and to answer questions we had about how the briskets are made! My family haven't had a better dining experience in Texas yet! P.S. - The Corn is really good and I cannot recommend it enough

Yelp
Scrumptious barbecue. Melt in your mouth brisket and ribs, tasty sausage, and beans with brisket in the sauce. Everything was delicious and everyone was really nice, especially Amelia and Veronica. Definitely worth the drive!

Yelp
Terry Black's in Lockhart TX. I have never been here before but REALLY love the one in Dallas. So let's start with the fact that parking is free. They were open on a Tuesday and they have continuous service on a Tuesday. They have indoor and outdoor sitting which is nice. So you walk in look at the signs, prices etc and start by ordering your sides first. Then you order the meats and pay. You pay and get your food which is always nice. We sat ate and enjoyed the place. The food was good but the BBQ in Dallas is better might be that the pits in Dallas are older so they are more seasoned. Go and give it a try as it is good and I will return.

Yelp
Amazing meal!!! Loved the atmosphere, helpful staff, we really enjoyed our meals. The sausage, turkey, brisket, ribs, & peach cobbler were just heavenly!

Yelp
Terry Black's is a standout bbq joint located in Texas' bbq Mecca, Lockhart. The first thing you are met with while walking up is that smoked meat flavor wafting in the air. Just look over and you'll see people tending those pits... and boy is that smell wonderful. We showed up on a Sunday, just a few minutes before noon and there was just a small line. We waited about 3 minutes to order our sides, the kids wanted mac n cheese, and then our bbq. Not a bad wait at all for something this good. As for the bbq, I ordered the holy trinity as that's how I judge every bbq restaurant. Brisket (both lean and moist), pork ribs, and sausage. Everything was wonderful! The brisket is quite tender and easily melts in your mouth and has a nice bark to it. The sausage was just real damn good, not sure how else to put it. And the pork ribs were cooked to perfection. Smoke flavor throughout, fall off the bone tender. I mean wow! The Mac n cheese was nice and creamy and worthy of your money. BBQ lovers need to find an excuse to make it to Terry Black's.

Yelp
Great BBQ and service. We had previously been to the Terry Blacks in Austin. We love the food there too but it's always so crowded and parking is a nightmare. This Lockhart location was much calmer and getting in and out was a breeze. Amelia and Veronica were super helpful. We ordered a family meal and even took some frozen meat to go. We enjoyed seeing the bbq pits outside and the patio was so cute! I also saw that they have overflow seating, though I didn't go inside that area. Pork ribs are our favorite though the brisket and sausage are really good too! Definitely worth the drive over.

Yelp
First visit to one of the Meccas of Lockhart, lunch time (so the meat was at its best), brisket, sausage, and 2 ribs. I just cant say I was blown away by anything. It was good, very good actually, but great? No. Ribs were probably the hit of the tray, and I did enjoy the texture and flavor. Sauce was also very good. Sides were forgettable. Brisket was a tad on the dry side, and just did not feel like that great a cut of meat. And sausage frankly had a mealy, gritty mouth feel...not my favorite but with the entire tray the taste was good. For the over $30 this tray costs, just could not get excited about the experience. Overall, definitely near the top of the pack in Texas BBQ, but the top 3 or 4 places are held by others IMO. Will definitely try again, and want to hit the Dallas location sooner than later. Definitely should be on your BBQ tour...just dont expect awesome.

Yelp
Wow! Super impressed! Food was amazing. Customer Service was incredible! The restaurant is awesome, I loved the outdoor area for beautiful days and the inside was cold and very inviting. I will definitely try it again! We had the ribs, brisket, and turkey and it was all soooo good! Little pricy but man isn't everything now a days? I tried another BBQ joint in Lockhart first and it was overwhelming, no menu, no designated line, computers were down. It was a mess so we ended up at Terry Blacks instead and we are all thankful we did. My husband said best ribs ever. The peach cobbler was incredible too! Definitely worth the stop.

Yelp
Turkey and brisket were amazing; rich, juicy, soo good!! Love the potato salad! Gave a ton of onions and pickles. Side of beans were also great with a lot of flavor. Workers were very nice and had great recommendations! The space is very nice and large: lots of large tables for big groups. Huge ceilings and wooden tables and benches. Casual, rustic, and lively feel overall! Would highly recommend!!

Yelp
Went to Austin with a list of bbq places! #1 without question is Terry Black's in Lockhart, TX! We ordered almost everything on the menu and can honestly say they serve the best bbq-the bark on the meat was amazing! Loved the ribs and brisket. The Mac and cheese was the best ever! Perfect! No room for dessert but we were told to get the pecan pie. This pie was absolutely delicious!! Do not pass up even if you're full! We had to buy merch too because we want to advertise the best bbq ! To make this a full 100% the staff was fantastic. They were all so friendly and made us feel so welcome. We went right after they opened so we didn't have a line but the restaurant was a little busy. On our way out with met Mike the pit master and he showed us the smoking process . I could see his passion for his specialized skill in providing customers the best bbq. Terry Black's is lucky to have him! Remember this is for the Lockhart restaurant!

Yelp
Traveling through town and had to check out Terry Black's! As BBQ connoisseurs we were excited to see how they stack up against the competition. From the moment we walked in it was a great experience, exceptional customer service and a very accommodating staff! The food was all delicious and our kids put their stamp of approval on the Mac n cheese! The hit of the meal was definitely the beef rib which our 10 year old son devoured! Thanks Amelia and KJ for making it a fun experience for the kids, usually when Dad stops for BBQ it's not their favorite but you guys gave them something to talk about! Eat more beef!!

Yelp
Great BBQ, Great service! Massive pork ribs, juicy brisket, smoke turkey was excellent.

Yelp
Giselle and Sam was awesome at Lockhart location. I was greeted and welcomed in. The food was fantastic! Gisselle and Sam gave a little history to this restaurant. I'm glad I came. I was driving around looking for a barbecue spot and I found this spot for the first time.

Yelp
Wow! We came here on a recommendation from a local we met at a bar in town and I do not regret it! Terry Black's is probably one of my favorite BBQ places in Texas from what I've tried so far. The person recommended trying the pork ribs and they do NOT disappoint! I actually prefer them over the brisket we got, although both were great. The ribs fell off the bone and don't need any sauce! The service was quick and good. Typical counter service. The ambiance was nice! It was a bit rainy the day we went so we didn't get a chance to sit outside but the patio is huge and looks fun!

Yelp
Drove to Lockhart for bbq. Have to admit, our first stop did an excellent job filling our bellies but Terry's came through with another solid platter. Previously enjoyed Terry's in Austin and thought it was the best platter Ive had to date. This trip in Lockhart, I had high expectations. Lots of seating indoor and outdoor. I took a lot of the meat home and it toasted up nicely.

Kelly S.

Yelp
Had a great experience! Amelia was awesome even after having a few difficult customers before we made it to the front of the line! Super kind and patient. Thanks again! Food was delicious and atmosphere inviting! Definitely making another trip!!

Linda S.

Yelp
What a great experience we had! The food was great and the employees were even better. Chris was a pleasure to talk to and made sure we had everything we needed. We were educated on the smoking process and given a tour of the pits by Ben. This California girl was clueless on how much meat they smoke. A must visit!!

Yelp
It's been awhile since I wrote a review and I decided it was time. I have one word to describe my experience at Terry Blacks bbq.... AWESOME!! It was one of the best bbq I have ever had. The brisket was superb! The ribs.... Wonderful. The sides were stupendous! The staff were all great! Very friendly. I strongly recommend Terry Blacks! It's a great place for bbq. FYI.. they do have a parking lot which is nice. I recommend you get there early because it does get busy! Strongly recommend Terry Blacks bbq! Great place! Will be back!!

Yelp
Eating at Terry Blacks was one of the highlights on our recent trip to Texas. We asked many Texans where to get their favorite barbeque and they all said we needed to go to Lockhart, the "Barbeque Capital of Texas". Most of them also said that they loved "Terry Blacks" and we agree totally. The place is rustic, homey and welcoming ... just like you would expect. The owner even greeted us and took the time to share the history of the restaurant. It was set up kind of like a buffet with lots of choices of meats and homeade sides. The staff were friendly, explained all the items and helped us with our orders. They cut the meat right there in front of you so you know it's fresh! There were six of us and we all tried a variety... top meats we liked were the brisket, ribs and turkey. Also popular were the green beans, beans and mac and cheese. They have a separate bar where you can get extras like pickels, onions and bread. It got really busy for lunch around noon... so a popular spot for locals. Would highly recommend. If you have time, visit the little town too.

Yelp
Came in and brought my brothers family. We had a little of everything. Everything looked great and tasted great. Pretty nice spot they have there. There was a line. So I'm worn in g u come early.

Yelp
We pulled up here late on. Sunday night after a long weekend of hunting! To say I was blown out the water is an understatement!! The pit master Shane was wrapping briskets and invited us over to watch him work. Then once inside our service was top notch. Sianna at the counter helped get us all the meat we wanted and couldn't have been more helpful and kind. I live in Utah but I will drive out here again just to come here!!!
google avatar

Raul Q.

Yelp
The brisket was on point, no pun intended! Jalapeno cheddar sausage seemed a bit dry to me but still had good flavor. The pork rib had good flavor, was juicy, and fell off the bone... I just didn't like that they gave me the end piece. Was your typical bbq joint, cut and serve your brisket right in front of you. Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating other than it's hot as hell to be sitting outside right now. Brisket was the best part so I would definitely be back!!!

Yelp
Visiting Lockhart, the Mecca of Texas barbecue, and after reading through some Yelp reviews we settled on giving Terry Black's a try so we could sample some great local smoked meat. We were not disappointed. This location is on the main highway just north of the central business district. As you enter the courtyard with outdoor seating, you will see the pit building in. Friendly staff will invite you in to take a look at the fine array of briskets, sausages and other goodies in the smokers. Terry Black's uses post oak exclusively as the fuel for their pits to achieve their distinctive flavor. The building on the right has the main dining room and serving area. Once inside, we chose brisket and sausage as our meats and had some of the pickled jalapeños, Cole slaw and Mac n' cheese for sides. Even though it was super busy on a steamy Sunday afternoon, we managed to find seating inside. Watching the carver slice off brisket onto our plate, I saw just how juicy the meat is. A perfect smoke ring circumscribed each slice, the brisket was tender, moist and flavorful with a nice balanced punch of smoke. The cheddar jalapeño sausage was thick with a meaty interior with just the right amount of fat. As for the sides, the Mac n' cheese featured extra large macaroni tubes in a velvety smooth cheese sauce. Cole slaw was tangy and straddled the divide between creamy and vinegar styles very well. You won't leave Terry Black's hungry. Service was universally excellent with staff being super friendly and welcoming. Prices are reasonable given the quality of the barbecue. Highly recommended.

Yelp
Let me get to the meat of the matter first (see what I did?...). We had the brisket (from the point). It was moist, flavorful, and meaty......pretty much awesome! We also had a link of their original sausage. It had great flavor, wasn't greasy, and was very good. That being said, I like a coarser ground sausage than what this was. Lastly, we had the pork ribs. While they had good bite and good texture, they were a little sweet for me. I thought they had a cherry flavor, but a stop by the pit crew revealed that they only use post oak (no cherry) for wood. They did say they used a sauce to glaze them with, and while I didn't get the actual recipe, they said it has simple syrup in it, so that is likely where the sweetness comes from, though it doesn't explain the cherry flavor. Maybe my taste buds were just off. Now, to the sides. We had the cream corn, potato salad, and banana Pudding. The cream corn was very disappointing. It was very undercooked and was so hard it was difficult to chew and swallow. The potato salad was just your average, run of the meal BBQ joint potato salad. Not bad, just nothing special. Lastly, the banana pudding had good flavor, but the consistency was more "whipped" than smooth, creamy, pudding. We were a little disappointed. One special note.......the staff were EXCEPTIONALLY friendly and helpful. Everybody we came into contact with were outstanding! The facilty was also clean, updated, and generally comfortable. We would definitely dine there again.

Jimmy R.

Yelp
Start with nasty unkept restrooms and end with chopped beef sandwich that tasted like chopped cardboard. Also, tasteless sliced brisket, sliced too thick to stay on the sandwich. Did not have anything else but based on this sample will never ever stop here again. Forgot, way over priced. And other high ratings are not believable. Big disappointment and "black mark" on Texas barbecue.
google avatar

David G.

Yelp
Alright to start I've had Terrys black in Austin but come to find out Terry Black's BBQ is the sons of Black's BBQ which both are well known in Texas! We came in after eating at Black's since we have tried Terrys before in the past but at the Austin location. Come to find out the pit room featured here provides about half of its briskets to the Austin location due to the high demand in Austin. So from eating it before it's to die for. We came in and had a few beers and peach cobbler which was amazing! 10/10 The pecan pie was soooo sooo flavorful and took more for the road! This place is fairly new compared to the other BBQ frenzies in Lockhart but glad to see they have ample amount of seating!
google avatar

K J.

Yelp
This was our first visit to this Terry Black's location. Absolutely fantastic! I know a lot of people complain about the prices at bbq joints, but we didn't mind paying it at all. $130 with tip and that was for a family of 5 with tons of leftovers. Good bbq is hard to find and it's worth the money. The inside was packed so we had to eat outside which was really hot, but shaded so that's nice. Parking is a bit tight. They run a great place. Cafeteria style and super fast. All the employees were friendly and helpful. We will stop by anytime we come through town. Also, check out the back story to the business if you get a chance. Cool story!

Yelp
OK, so yeah...that happened. I will admit that "Jolly" helped me in my choices for bbq during my Texas visit, and luckily it was only an hour away, so we went. Everyone was really polite and patient, as I was trying to guess the quantity of how much to order (I have never ordered by weight before). Ordered wayvtoo much, but we all had a nice "sampler platter." Without a doubt, best beef ribs I have ever tried. Amazingly craveable. I have leftovers which WILL be snacked on. The brisket was just as good. It's weird, though....thecpork ribs were good....but not great. Maybe stick with beef here. The creamed corn, Mac and cheese, cornbread, and all of the sides were very good. You MUST try the beef ribs here. Just be wary about weights....I treated my family to a tasting tray, and before I knew it, spent over $200. Well worth it

JoAnn S.

Yelp
OMG! Have to say this has been one of the best BBQ we've ever had. The experience as a whole was 5 ! The pit masters greeted us and showed us the process. My hun was like a kid in a candy store! Hats off to these guys! It's been one of the hottest weeks and although today was not triple digets, being outside and by those 12 pits it was 115°. Hot! I can't imagine when it was 110 last week. Then we went into the restaurant, th3n I was like a lady in a Tiffany show room!! Lol All the sides are delish!!! Now were at the meat counter and the 1st bad ass we meet is Gisselle, dang that girl can do tricks with that knife! Shes AMAZING NINJA N Sam these 2 are a great duo! My stomach is sooo content! The drive back home (Buda) at 7:40 was just the icing on the cake with a beautiful sunset. Thank u Jesus

Melissa S.

Yelp
Wow this barbecue restaurant is delicious! I highly recommend eating here! Gisselle provided great service and was pleasant. Thank you for a great experience.

Yelp
Got takeout here yesterday and faaaar prefer this location to the one in Austin, though I love that location too. Mostly it's less crazy Can't go wrong with anything, we just got a pork sandwich, chopped beef sandwich, and sides of macaroni and cheese and Cole slaw. Love the outdoor area here and that it's generally less crowded than the Austin location.

Yelp
There are obviously so many bbq places to choose from in Lockhart, but this one is the one we now consistently hit on our way through town. Everything is amazing! The staff is always friendly and usually gives us a scrap pice of bark with our order. ;-) We always order outside moist cut and we're never disappointed. The green beans are our one of our favorite sides, but the star of the show? Their cream corn. It's seriously a religious experience for us, and we're convinced it's made with crack. We always get an extra order to go home with us. It's hard to describe how it's different and better than any cream corn we've had, but it almost tastes like you're eating creamed kettle corn, if that makes sense. Just try it, I cannot imagine you would be disappointed.

Yelp
After a day out at the range, we stopped for lunch at this location and I was thoroughly surprised with my experience. However, I find the whole setup absolutely confusing. When we parked there was a sign that said "ENTER" with an arrow. We ended up behind the restaurant where the wood was...but once we realized there are about 5 ways to get to the entrance, we got in. The process begins with choosing your sides. There was only one lady working and she was very impatient; it made me feel so rushed and uncomfortable. You better know which side to get and if you want paprika on your potato salad and if you want pickles and/or onions or bread the moment you walk in (I'm glad I studied the people in front of me). The lady thanked me for saying everything I wanted all at one time. She also forgot my bread. I ordered potato salad and smoked turkey with a water. I think my total was around $12 which I wasn't mad about. The turkey was great! The potato salad was delicious and not too fully of mustard/mayo. The sauce was in a huge cooler outside which I thought was interesting. I quite enjoyed sitting outside on the patio and later talking to the guys at the pit. Loved that there were two all-gender restrooms so this place gets kudos for that. If I'm in the area, I will definitely check this place out. I don't think it deserves a long commute, however.

The location outside Austin really makes it special - away from the hustle and bustle, the crowds, and the nearly impossible to find parking spots. Their stash was Texas friendly and their BBQ ever so tender and moist. We just found our new BBQ joint to take our out of town guests.

Yelp
Wow! Oh! WOW! We visited from out of state for some MotoGP action and some authentic BBQ from Texas. After a recommendation from a local and reviews on Yelp, we figured we would give Terry's a try. Am I glad we did? Hell yes! We followed the entrance signs, Terry Black's knows what they are doing when they have you walk pass the delicious smell of the smokers doing their thing. Instantly, I felt that the service we were going to be provided was going to be a great one. One of the gentleman greeted us as we walked toward the restaurant. We walked in and instantly greeted by the sides counter... My thought, "Oh my gosh, so many choices." We went with the Mac and cheese (best I think I've ever had), green beans and some corn bread. I added cheese and a Jalapeño for a small charge. And then I added the complimentary onions and bread just in case to make sandwiches with any of the meats. Then the Meats and drink counter... "What to get, what to get?" We splurged for just the two of us because it was the first time we had authentic BBQ from Texas. We got half slab of ribs, 1/2 lb of brisket and some Jalapeño Cheddar Sausage. OH MY GOODNESS was it all AH-MAY-ZING! The seasoning, the flavor, and the smokiness... Ugh. Making my mouth water for some more at 9am as I type this up. We added some Original and Sweet N' Spicy sauce and it paired so nicely with everything. As we ate, another gentleman checked on us to make sure we were doing good at least three different times during our visit. Thank you sir for the hospitality! Terry Black's BBQ.... Thank you for the opportunity to try AUTHENTIC BBQ as we visited from Reno, NV. Hope to see Ya'll at the Reno, NV Nugget Rib Cook-off in the future!

Yelp
This new location is a great stop in the BBQ capital! The space is well designed and very welcoming. As you enter the restaurant, you walk through the covered BBQ pits smoking delicious meats. Food: our picks were delicious! Sliced beef and chopped beef sandwiches were ordered and they were loaded up with meat. The meat was so flavorful and tender that I didn't need to add sauce to the sliced beef sandwich. We got Mac and cheese and pinto beans and both were delicious. The margarita was a good choice and was a tasty addition to enjoy on the outdoor eating area. We arrived at an off hour time so there was no line. It was our first visit and all the staff was kind and helpful. The pitmasters are cool too, and let you come in to get a closer look at the pit area and smoked meats.

Yelp
2 of 3 voted Terry Blacks best of 3 places we tried. The third ate everything on her plate. Very happy that they are starting to use eco-friendly disposable items. Keep going!! Will return just for that reason.

Yelp
Ordered brisket and sausage, both were VERY DRY, the side of cream corn was good, I have eaten at every BBQ place in Lockhart and had high expectations, I was highly disappointed, especially for the prices, the only saving grace was the nice woman I spoke to on the way out gave me a couple of pieces of moist brisket.

Yelp
Simply amazing. There are a lot of great choices for BBQ in Lockhart but this is hands-down the best brisket and pork ribs. You get all three sauces (sweet, mild, and spicy) when you get it to go but honestly, you don't need the sauce. Mac and cheese and potato salad are my favorite sides but the corn seemed popular. Beer selection doesn't include Shiner which is odd for this part of Texas but you're not here for the beer. Service was great. They greet you at the pits and all the staff is smiling. They even came around the dining room and handed out burnt ends. Pro tip: Get everything packaged to go and just eat what you can in the dining room. I got here at 11am on a Saturday - no line but that may be because it was an ACL weekend.

Yelp
We've been to the Austin mamy tomes but are happy to report that the Lockhart location is just as good. All the superlatives apply. Freaking awesome bbq. The brisket is fall apart tender. The burnt ends are glorious. We are more than happy to benefit from the BBQ war in Lockhart. Their sides are awesome. The cream corn is my favorite. The potatoe salad and ohhh the pintos are swimming in brisket trimmings. Glorious!! Service is spot on. You don't feel rushed. Great new bbq place that let's you walk past all their pits!! So cool! 10 out of 10!! Way to go Terry Black!!

Yelp
Visiting Austin for the first time and Texas BBQ was a must. Terry Black's was amazing. The beef rib was the size of my forearm. The rib and brisket were melt in your mouth delicious. The cream corn was down right addictive. Great friendly staff from the pitmaster who gave us a tour to Sianna and Veronica who were also so welcoming. So glad we were able to visit.

Yelp
I wanted to write this review after the 2nd visit to make sure the first one wasn't a fluke. And it wasn't. Terry Black's is DELICIOUS. At some BBQ joints, the meat is delicious and the sides are eh. But at Terry Black's you can't go wrong no matter what you pick. If the weather is nice, pick a picnic table outside and enjoy the sunshine! Shoutout to Veronica at the register and Josh who cut up the meats...they're a lot of fun and remember you when you come in for the second time in three days. Even the guys running the smokers remembered us and welcomed us back! This place is bookmarked and we'll always stop by if we're in the area!

Yelp
Review for Terry Black's Barbecue Just had the most amazing experience at Terry Black's! The barbecue was out of this world, and I have to give a special shout-out to Robert A. (aka the Wiener Wizard) for his incredible sausage slicing skills. And a big thank you to Veronica for her exceptional, cheerful, and fun help at the register--she made our visit even better! Not only was the food fantastic, but the staff truly made it a memorable experience. Can't wait to come back!

Yelp
Scale of 1-5 Food: - Beef 5 ! Tender and juicy. Simply the best -Brisket 5 ! Moist and not too fatty. Flavorful! -Cream corn 2 it was just ok. Not very creamy (personal taste) -Potato salad - 5 made just right. Not overwhelmingly like some with heavy mayo Service : 5 ! One of the workers kept checking on us if we needed anything else and service was fast and friendly staff. Ambiance 5. Just go. Check out the pits ! You can see from my previous post I've been to a few bbq joints... including some at Lockhart. Finally had opportunity beginning of my BD weekend to head out for 1.5 hour drive to Terry Blacks BBQ And this place is totally legit and worth the drive. Looking forward to sampling other meats.

Yelp
The large beef ribs have the meat falling off the bone. There's a variety of sides which complement the meat. If you want a slice or two of bread, it's there for the taking as are pickles and onion. Don't forget the desserts, pie and two types of cobbler, peach and pecan during our last visit. The dining area has been expanded since my last time there. There's still the smoked smell and the slight discoloration on the walls, the sign of a great BBQ restaurant. If you're in the neighborhood, check it out.
