The 13 Best Thai Restaurants In Austin

"Thai Thani is parked behind a Valero in Cherrywood, but it’s hard to miss. It’s a bright green and yellow trailer that looks like a box of Sprites—maybe grab a cold one from the gas station to go with dinner. The menu at this mostly takeout operation features most of the Thai classics you’re probably familiar with, like green curry, pad thai, and fried rice, but we especially like the pad see ew here. The Chinese broccoli gets nice and charred, and the brown sauce it’s all served in is rich, savory, and just a little bit sweet." - nicolai mccrary

Cherrywood’s family-operated truck cooks halal-friendly wings, noodles, and curries with bright, homey flavors. Called out by Eater Austin and appreciated by neighbors for consistent hours and value, it’s a low-key weeknight go-to.

Google
Really good! One of the best Thai I tried in Austin. This food truck has so many options and I decided to try the green curry. Spicy, flavourful, balanced, and large quantity. The little touch of coconut oil or aroma in the rice says a lot! I really enjoyed the meal overall! Super recommended!

Google
100% halal and It was so good! Highly recommend the cashew chicken it’s a family favorite now! We also got the drunken noodles which were the perfect spice level at level 3. And we got the pepper steak which was perfectly tender and delicious! They were the sweetest two ladies running the truck and food was a good quantity. There was even parking near the food truck which is surprising! Best Thai food in Austin fs!

Google
This is my go-to spot in Austin! I have lived in Austin for more than ten years and I continue to find myself craving Thai Thani year after year. Tai and her mother are incredibly friendly. My favorite menu items are the tofu pad thai and tofu fried rice. Both are very authentic. They can also make it truly very spicy, which I love. Most importantly, everything here is made fresh and exactly to order. Everything about the neighborhood spot is absolutely amazing!!

Sathvi S

Google
We were so looking forward to this place after seeing the reviews but ended up with disappointment. We got their drunken noodle, pad see eaw and egg rolls. The food was burning hot, but lacked salt, spice and any flavor for that matter. It was very very bland and dry. The portion was big enough for 2 people to share.

Jamie Haynes

Google
This is a family operation featuring authentic Thai recipes. We sampled 3 dishes, and they were all excellent. The soup was incredibly flavorful, and you can add tofu 😋.the green curry was on the sweeter side but still packed heat. The star for us was the drunken 🍜 you can control the spice from 1 to 5. We tried level 3, and I broke a sweat but loved every bite. Also, I love that they use compostable or reusable containers for the takeaway dishes.

Jeanie L

Google
We had the Pad Thai and Pad See Ew and were very disappointed. The portions were huge but the taste simply wasn’t good. The Pad Thai was way too sweet and the Pad See Ew was way too salty.

Raj Poosarla

Google
Food lacks flavor, wouldn't recommend it. I ordered chicken fried rice, and it hardly had any vegetables or chicken. It's just plain rice with eggs scrambled. Needless to say, the staff is not super friendly either. I am sure everyone has their taste, but I am seriously disappointed, and thanks for taking time to respond and asking what went wrong.

Google
Wrost customer service. Called to give feedback as this was second time l. Food portions are horrible. When I bought it up to lady she was screaming, rude, justifing count of items with order; 15 peices of beef, and market price. We paid for meal plus extra as if our money is any less. Bought up comparison to another thai location, she said than you to eat there. Not worth spending a dime with this business or would not recommend anyone place order.

Yelp
I just had the Pad See Ew and the Thai egg rolls and I was blown away. Definitely some of the best Pad in Austin. Will 100% be a frequent visitor now.
google avatar

Mary S.

Yelp
It's behind the building in the corner. There are plenty of seats in the shade. The wait is not bad. We really enjoyed our meals from here. I ordered the mildly spicy green curry with chicken. This was more substantial than expected. It came with a generous portion of Jasmine rice. We had a hard time deciding what to get because everything on the menu sounded amazing, so we plan on coming back to try everything.

Yelp
Thai Thani is an excellent food truck located on Manor Road and certainly not to be missed if you're in the area! I've been coming here for almost four years and have yet to be disappointed. The portions have definitely gotten smaller over the years, but they're still pretty generous, so this isn't a huge problem. I also love how personable the staff are. I don't go super often, but when I do, they remember me and already know my order. Everyone is extremely friendly and work quickly. There are a few picnic tables out front, but I think for the most part everyone does take away from here. The food is delicious, so you may as well enjoy it in a comfortable atmosphere!
google avatar

Birgit S.

Yelp
The food is always flavorful and huge portions. The meats are always perfectly cooked and good cuts. Fast service too. Love this secret spot on the east side.

Jade P.

Yelp
Chicken Pad Thai, chicken was sketch and the rice noodles were so overcooked it was practically mush. Not much of a flavor profile. Just not good at all. Green Curry with beef, again, beef was so sketchy and weird. Flavor was ok.
google avatar

Munsa M.

Yelp
Me and my bf came here to grab a quick bite and the food was excellent! We got the chicken drunken noodles and the green curry with chicken with a 3/5 spice level for both. The food seemed freshly made since it came out piping hot and the service was relatively fast considering that. Everything was really well seasoned and nice and spicy!! We were definitely full after each getting an entree. We will definitely be back!!
google avatar

Kassiel G.

Yelp
Picture might not do it justice... but I NEED y'all to know- this truly might be some of the best Thai I've ever had. The Green Curry was one of the most delicious curries, with a spice level that rises at first and then plateaus, complimenting the meal perfectly. It also stays piping hot so it's great to eat there or to-go! $12 for a really good serving, I ended up having leftovers and ate twice! Seriously, cannot recommend this place enough.
google avatar

Nikita S.

Yelp
Best Thai food I've ever had in austin Texas. I've tried spicy drunken noodle, pad Thai and green curry. It's a good truck, space is small and only 2 tables to sit, 3 car parking space. Mosquitoes everywhere. Better to pick up food and drive home.
google avatar

Beth M.

Yelp
I always drive past this spot and have been curious to try it. Tonight we decided to give a go and were so happy we did! Super quick, food was hot when it came out and very delicious. We got the pad Thai, and drunken noodles level 4 spicy- both some of the best I've tried in Austin. I opted for level 4/5 because I normally am underwhelmed by spiciness at thai spots around town but this level 4 was actually hot so be careful lol. We will definitely be back!
google avatar

Rachel T.

Yelp
TLDR: very generous portions, especially for the prices in austin, but not anything id go out of my way to eat again things we ordered: - basil beef - drunken noodle - cashew chicken - pad thai chicken - pad thai beef - spicy chicken wings one good thing is that the portion sizes are very generous (pad thai chicken fed me for 2.5 meals)! basil beef- 3.5/5 the basil beef was alright. it was a bit watery, and the rice to meat ratio wasn't the best, but the taste was still not bad. drunken noodle- 4.5/5 my dad asked for level 5 spiciness and it made it really good! he did say next time he recommends a 3-4 lvl bc he had many trips to the restroom after that! overall, though, the drunken noodle was really yummy with a good variety of veggies to balance out the overall dish. cashew chicken- 3/5 the cashew chicken wasn't very spectacular either. it did not have much distinctive flavor. pad thai chicken- 3/5 i didn't find that the pad thai was spectacular at all. the noodles were mostly stuck together in large clumps and were pretty mid in taste. pad thai beef- 3.5/5 the beef tasted pretty good in this pad thai, hence the additional 0.5 pt, but overall, the pad thai noodles were sticky in large clumps with not much flavor, similar to the pad thai chicken spicy chicken wings- 3/5 the chicken wings didn't taste like usual spicy chicken wings, but didn't have a very memorable flavor

Yelp
My go-to place for Thai food in Austin. The food is consistently great ( The Yellow Curry Tofu is my go-to), reasonably priced, and the owners are remarkably kind and friendly. I am so happy they are in my neighborhood.

Ian H.

Yelp
Excellent food. I have been going here for years. My favorite is probably the yellow curry but lots of good choices. They are also very nice.
google avatar

Carrie M.

Yelp
There were no prices on the menu, which is really exciting because I love surprises. The surprise was that the price is similar to what you'd get at a sit-down restaurant, and the quality was definitely not comparable. The parking lot was extremely small and tight, and there were only two tables next to the food truck. I had the drunken noodles and they were not good. They were somehow spicy but without any flavour.
google avatar

vanessa g.

Yelp
The beauty of THAI THANI is consistency. Same lovely ladies cooking means same bomb food every time! The green chicken curry spice level 4 is my go to and it's so damn good every time. Do not try to make green curry at home! Just get it from here!! I also love the yummy wings, drunken noodles with beef, the Basil Beef with mint and could eat the mango sticky rice every day, no problem :)

Richard L.

Yelp
Awesome Thai food in East Austin, don't miss the pepper steak, and the yellow curry is wonderful as well! Friendly service,, call in your order and it'll be ready in 20 minutes usually.
google avatar

Sheema S.

Yelp
This is best thai food in Austin! I travel a long way to eat here! Their portions are generous and food is just simply amazing!
google avatar

Shradha A.

Yelp
The yellow curry was sweet and watery. Not something I'd return for unfortunately. It was prepared quickly.
google avatar

Sara J.

Yelp
I ordered the green curry with beef and it was really delicious! I enjoyed the flavor and the level of spice. It is spicy but not overpowering. The portion size is good for the price. The service was not very friendly, I didn't feel very welcomed or like she was even happy I was there, that was disappointing. I love supporting local food trucks like this, but expect more friendly service. I would still go back since I just got food to go and it was yummy. I also got a Thai iced tea and enjoyed that!
google avatar

Maddie B.

Yelp
I came across Thai Thani on accident as I just happened to be in the neighborhood, they were closing soon but were happy to get me some pad Thai and white rice which made my day because I was feeling really sick. This was the perfect pick me up, and was so so delicious! Some of the best pad Thai I've had in Austin so far & I can't wait to go back and try more off their menu!'
google avatar

Ashley C.

Yelp
This is a cute family-owned and authentic Thai food truck everyone should check out! It can be a bit hard to find, but it's just behind the gas station. I walked up and spoke to the mother. I asked her what she recommended and she suggested the Drunken Noodles if I don't want something too sweet. She said their Thai food is traditional and unlike the sweeter, Americanized Thai food restaurants- good to know! The Yummy Wings were delicious and crispy on the outside, but juicy on the inside. However, the price for them at $10 for 5 is pretty steep. The Drunken Noodles, a reasonable price, had a nice flavor to them, were decently priced, and I got level 2/5 for spice, which I thought was perfect for me. I would definitely go back!

Karen M.

Yelp
One of the best Halal Thai food in town. There food is absolutely delicious and flavor full. Quantity and quality is excellent. We ordered Tom yum soup, Thai basil chicken , Green chicken curry and Shrimp fried rice. Every dish has very authentic flavor. I highly recommend this place. Owner ver friendly
google avatar

Mike P.

Yelp
I was craving Tom yum soup tonight and I stopped by Thai Thani close to my house. It wasn't on the menu so I asked. They said they can make it but it would take maybe 15 or 20 minutes which was fine. I ordered it super spicy because no Thai place in town makes anything spicy. I waited and received a small container of soup. I thought for 11.99 I would get a quart but it wasn't. I said something to the young woman about the size and price. When I got home I opened it and it was so jammed packed with meat and vegetables and the flavor was the best the Tom yum soup I have had in Austin. And it was spicy. It was well worth the 11.99. So my apologies for saying anything negative to her and I really appreciate them taking the time to make something off menu for me. I could eat this every day. Add it to your menu!!! Thanks again.
google avatar

Hira S.

Yelp
Sorry the pics aren't amazing quality but the food definitely is. Green curry sounds interesting with the eggplant and bamboo but trust me - it is amazing in flavor and texture. A bit of a spice kick so it was just addicting to eat. I didn't love the pad Thai because it was quite sweet but still a good Thai spot overall.
google avatar

Baneen N.

Yelp
SO excited to have a halal Thai place in Austin! Verbally confirmed by the person working, both beef and chicken are halal. Went to school here and had no idea this place existed. We tried the drunken noodles and yellow curry, both with chicken. Both were supposed to be spice level 3, but the noodles were much spicier than the curry. The curry was much more sweet than spicy. I'd say it's about the same quality as Madam Mam's or Tuk Tuk. Excited to try more things off this menu, and hopefully we'll figure out the spice levels as we go along.
google avatar

Martie S.

Yelp
I got the chicken pad thai and enjoyed it. Maybe it was just me but it had a barbecue sauce ish taste to it.. it wasn't bad just different than most pad thai I've had. The portions are also very big, 1 order is enough for 2 decent meals. Overall a great choice for easy and quick take out
google avatar

Taylor K.

Yelp
Delicious yellow curry! Does take awhile, recommend calling ahead if you don't want to wait 30 min outside the food truck. But this mother daughter duo knows what they're doing when it comes to Thai food. Great portions for the price. My new fave neighborhood Thai truck!
google avatar

Lauren M.

Yelp
My new favorite Thai place in austin! A friend told me to stop by this food truck for great pad Thai and he was exactly right. This venue is run by a hardworking mother and daughter, and the food is prepared fresh upon ordering it. My chicken pad Thai was seriously good - rivaled most that I've had at other Thai restaurants. I can't wait to go back soon! As a tip, their pad Thai on the menu still says that it has tofu, but they said they actually don't include it anymore in the recipe.

Matt S.

Yelp
so good! I've lived in thialand and have found it it hard to eat authentic Thia food here in Austin. I have finally found the place! eat here if you love Thia food
google avatar

Mala D.

Yelp
I unfortunately see what this place went out of business for a few years. I just figured it was because it's hard to maintain a food truck with so many brick and mortars nearby. However; I called around 6 to see when they closed, whomever answered the phone actually seemed a little annoyed by the question; but I choked it up to them thinking it was a stupid question since the website does say they close at 9. Anyhow,I think placed my order around 7:50 when I got home and Waited the amount of time I was told AND arrived maybe 4 minutes later just in case. Stood outside of the window trying to peak my head in so they could see me. The lady saw me approaching and looked directly at me. I stood there longer and she was about to stand up and just sat back down. The person working the grill never turned around; but I could see them chuckle from behind. I promptly left and won't be returning.
google avatar

Yelp
Pretty solid Thai food trailer tucked behind a convenience store off Manor. Big portions, friendly staff, cool location w plenty of picnic tables in the vicinity. We had pad kra pow, green curry & pad Thai and all of them were solid. Also worth noting, most Thai restaurants cook in vegetable oils which are terrible for your health. Thai Thani uses olive oil which is very impressive. Tastes better too.
google avatar

Doug D.

Yelp
Best Thai in Austin. The yellow curry is my favorite. The lady is super friendly, everything on the menu is amazing.

Adam K.

Yelp
Good-not-great pad thai, comparable to other places we've tried but not just much closer but also a much better deal in terms of price/serving size (which is enormous).
google avatar

Josh C.

Yelp
Some of the cleanest, freshest, tastiest Thai food I've had. You taste more of the authentic flavors, and less of the heavy creaminess. The owner is very friendly, with many interesting personal life stories, and she talks about how she tried to make the food taste like it would in Thailand. Highly recommended

Reilly C.

Yelp
This place is seriously amazing! We love the ladies who work there and get the Vegan pad Thai with the fried egg rolls as our usual meal. We have lived close to this place for the past few years now and it is our go-to takeaway! Give it a try!
google avatar

Gena P.

Yelp
What can I say? I love this food truck. I just moved back to the Manor Road area, and I'm so glad Thai Thani truck is back as well! I love the green truck her husband built too! I love spicy so my favorite is the green curry

Liora K.

Yelp
Pros: huge amount of food, spring rolls Cons: Pad Thai is sugary and I love Pad Thai in general. Feel a sugar rush

Evan T.

Yelp
This shit slaps. I've never known my purpose or why I'm on this planet...until now. It has become abundantly clear to me that I'm supposed to eat and enjoy Thai Thani with the time I have on Earth. Thanks.

Erik V.

Yelp
Recently opened again at a new location. I've traveled to Thailand w/locals from a village just outside of Surin, they took me to several dive spots where tourists often don't set foot, so I know what authentic Thai food is supposed to taste like. I can assure you that THIS is the closest you are going to get without taking a 20+ hour flight to the country itself. ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE FOOD! Definitely the best & most authentic Thai food I have tasted in the United States, everything is made from scratch. Do yourself a favor & check this place out if you want to know what HOME COOKED Thai food is supposed to taste like. I highly recommend the Basil Beef, Ginger Chicken, any of the Curries, and the Tom Yum Soup. However, do not skip the Yummy Wings either, they are amazing! For the most part, they can make your dish as spicy as you need it to be, but remember this is authentic Thai cuisine, so you may want to start off nice & easy until you know exactly what you are getting into. You spice-heads are going to love it, and this is true comfort food, especially if someone needs to warm up in the cold weather! Keep in mind that it is usually HOT in Thailand, so it's not as if cold weather is required. Treat yourself and try the Thai Iced Tea, as it is inexpensive and not overly sweet like some other places. Location is quite convenient, on Manor Road, close to campus and downtown. There is plenty of seating in the dinning area outside. Prices are very reasonable as the tax is included in the menu price. Many might be surprised at how healthy the meals are, and the soup can actually make you feel better if you are ill. If authentic representation of real Thai food is what you are are looking for, you truly cannot pass up Thai Thani. Once you visit, you will surely be thinking about the next time you can return.
google avatar

Steven H.

Yelp
I kinda don't wanna review this place out of fear it might get too popular and prevent me from getting quick access to some of the best Thai food in Austin hands down. The curries are flavorful and hit at your taste buds hard, they also have an amazing Tom Ka (Coconut Shrimp soup) that might not be on the menu but they always have it and it's my favorite. The place is delicious what more can I say? Order the wings. They are called yummy wings for a good reason.
google avatar

Mary J.

Yelp
Yum- good, but small portions for normal prices ($10.99 for beef or chicken pad see ew)
google avatar

Britt G.

Yelp
Fantastic food and sweet people making it! Pad Thai and green curry were steaming hot and full of flavor, perfect for a cold night. I'll be going back!

Florence P.

Yelp
Don't let the fact that this is a food truck fool you into thinking service is quick. It took our order 40 MINUTES from the time we ordered to the time it was done. During our long wait, the owner pulls up and drops off his wife to help. Well, we ordered at 12:25 pm. It was lunch time. You think they would plan for lunchtime schedule. Food was alright. My pad Thai noodles were tasty but the beef were the smallest bits I've ever seen. DEFINITELY NOT WORTH THE WAIT! I'd get faster service at a sit down restaurant even during covid times!

Len S.

Yelp
My wife & I stopped in here for dinner and it's delicious.we had Pad Thai (beef & Tofu) and its the best Thai food in East Austin hands down. We are definitely coming back! Great service & food
google avatar

Ezgi K.

Yelp
Soooooooo tasty! They have great options on the menu and it is vegetarian and vegan friendly! It is authentic thai food. The owners are mother and daughter from Thailand! Everything was so delicious!
google avatar

Nicholas B.

Yelp
So wonderful!! What a great addition to Manor St and the Cherrywood neighborhood. After a five year hiatus, the folks who own Thai Thani are back with all kinds of wonderful new recipes - and of course all the classic favorites. My wife and I ordered the beef/rice plate, which had tons of ginger, just the right amount of spiciness, and a bit of mint. The portions were quite large. We also got the Yummy Wings, which were as good or better than anything you'll find at BWW for sure! We also got a sample of a breaded + fried banana... very TX, very good. Everything was perfectly cooked. I loved that the owners serve food on non-disposable plates, so as to minimize waste. They were also so kind to us... came out to check on the taste and experience. This place is a real jewel, and will surely become a regular stop-in.
google avatar

Stacey T.

Yelp
I walked over from my apartment sick as a dog. The girl asked whether I wanted stir fry, noodles, or rice and I told her I was sick and I just wanted to feel better. She said her mom would make me a lemongrass soup that is intended to heal sickness. She told me her mom would make it from scratch in five to ten minutes. A short wait and the kind ladies of Thai Thani made me a spicy lemongrass soup with chicken, rice, peppers, basil, and more. The broth was healing--perfect for my sick day. It was like having one of those special "feel-better-mom-hugs" in soup form. It hit the spot and changed my day. It felt even more special because they made it for me. I cannot wait to go back to this food truck. They make everything from scratch. The mom told me she preps all the ingredients each morning. Cash only. Call ahead or order there. Closed Monday. Hours are 11-3 and 5-10:30 all other days. The fact that they took care of me when I was sick says so much!
google avatar

Wajiha R.

Yelp
Thai Thani is back! I was a huge fan before it's hiatus and the other day I drove by and saw that it had re-opened and was ecstatic! It's hard to find a good Thai place in Austin so Thai Thani's return was much needed. Everything is made fresh to order. My favorite is the Tom Kha. It's so complex and restorative and wonderful on a cold day. You really can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Mariam, the owner is so warm and kind. Highly recommend!!!
google avatar

Jen H.

Yelp
I still adore this place. Almost everything is great (perhaps avoid the pad thai- it's a bit lackluster) but everything else is so good and fresh. I give it five stars mostly b/c you can't get thai this good, this convenient, and this inexpensive anywhere in Austin. It's also down the street from my casa. The curries (green and yellow are divine). I like the green curry the best- especially with the thai eggplant! The cashew chicken and the pad sea ew are so good. You get a free eggroll. How can you argue?

Ian H.

Yelp
Good food. Great people. It is nice to see how popular they have gotten as they deserve it.
