The 12 Best Beignets In New Orleans 2024

"Thai'd Up is where you'll find one of the best non-traditional beignets around. It comes in the form of roti, which they fry up, drizzle with condensed milk, sprinkle the tops with confectioner’s sugar, and garnish the whole thing with strawberry and mint. What we love most is that they're flaky and crispy in some spots and a little chewy in others. And if you didn’t just plan to eat fried dough while you’re here, grab some spring rolls, something from the grill like the butter shrimp, and a Thai iced tea." - megan braden perry

I want to start off by saying, "If I could give this restaurant more stars, I would!" I can't believe I waited the over two years it's been open to visit this place for the first time. First of all, the wait staff, Luan, Tommie, and Lexi, were so attentive, courteous, and friendly. They made sure that we were satisfied with our order, especially after my husband and I shared it was our first time eating Thai food. They made suggestions and recommendations that made our experience that much better! Now let me talk about the food! OMG, delicious is just the tip of the iceberg of my satisfaction with the food. It came out pipping hot, was fresh, tasty, and the portions were just right! If you are looking for a place to eat some great food, be served by a warm and attentive staff, in a cozy atmosphere, you have to visit this restaurant!

Thanks to my friend Britney, I discovered a true culinary treasure—Thai’d Up—and I couldn’t be more grateful. From the moment you walk in, the cozy, quaint atmosphere and warm, inviting staff make you feel instantly at home. The attention to detail is impressive—even the utensils sparkle! But let’s talk about the real star: the food. It’s nothing short of spectacular. This isn’t just Thai food—it’s Thai cuisine elevated to an art form. Every dish bursts with flavor, freshness, and care. You can truly taste the pride the chef pours into each beautifully crafted dish. The roti flatbread? Light, flaky, and downright heavenly—like eating a savory cloud. It’s a must-have every single time. The Pad Thai is hands down the best I’ve ever had, and the red curry is rich, aromatic, and absolutely delicious. An extra bonus? You can customize your spice level, which I love. If you like a little heat, I recommend starting with a level 1. Thai’d Up doesn’t mess around—those spice levels can definitely put some hair on your chest! If you think you know good Thai food, think again. Thai’d Up will completely redefine your expectations and keep you coming back for more. Once you’ve eaten here, no other Thai restaurant will compare.

Second visit (3-28-25).... Crab Rangoon was VERY good, appealing presentation, not greasy at all, with delicate flavors and creamy. Nice stimulating peppery sauce too. Regular Tom Yum soup was delicious with perfectly cooked aldenté veggies. Drunken Noodles with shrimp was excellent. Very accommodating and friendly staff. I ordered my items too spicy and to please me and help my palette, they re-cooked and reserved my Drunken Noodles; less spicy. So nice & it was perfect! The Pad Thai with shrimp was very good. Loved eating that creamy orchid too. Good value & price point! The crispy fried tofu w/ sweet chili sauce was a nice appetizer. Our creamy Tom Yum soups were delicious with perfectly cooked aldenté veggies. Yellow curry w/shrimp was stellar with abundant nice sized shrimp; plenty of perfectly cooked Jasmine rice. The Thai fried rice w/tofu was likewise delicious with a nice vegetable medley and beautiful edible orchid flower. We had everything "mild", which was a great way to test the Thai heat. Next time, I would go with medium but, for me, never Thai-hot! Highly, HIGHLY, recommended. We will be back!

Google
We ordered Thai Fried rice, creamy tom yum and red curry. They were wonderful and authentic. Red curry was a bit sweet but still good. However, the Thai tea was sugar water and it's not drinkable. I still recommend eating here. Just don't get the Thai tea.

Google
Delicious and Flavorful food!! I love coming to this spot, the food never disappoints. The service is friendly, and attentive. The crab rangoons are fairly small, but very delicious (probably my favorite on the city) and I love the Thai Fresh Rolls and their yellow curry. Everything on the menu is good really, you can't go wrong!!

Google
So my wife and I both liked this place but we think we ordered the wrong stuff. The roti was fantastic. She got the tofu basil salad and I got the seafood tom yum. Neither of us loved our dishes but I think we just ordered the wrong things. It was a Friday during lent. The other stuff people were eating looked really good and we will have to try it again.

Google
The space itself is a little small, but the food is some of the best Thai food in the city hands down. We came for my sister’s birthday and ordered a good bit of food. It came out quickly and everything was piping hot and fresh. Service was also great. 10/10 will definitely be back!

Wonderful spot with delicious Thai food. The flavors are wonderful, making it a great experience. Highly recommended, it’s definitely worth the visit.

Yelp
Authentic Thai is probably the best description. The Tom Yum had the most distinguishable flavors I have ever had - and I have had my share of Tom Yum across the United States. It is not the cream color I was accustomed to, and a tad sweet... and I would absolutely order it again. The fresh vegetables were clearly cut in house and the broth was perfect. Medium heat was borderline hot, which I like. The pad Thai was as it should be - hearty and familiar, with quality noodles and perfectly cooked shrimp (it's not often a restaurant cooks the shrimp right at its apex without overdoing it). Crushed peanuts and lime to add as one prefers were fresh. The servers were polite and attentive. It is a quaint establishment with a very welcome feel. I will be back.

Yelp
I'll start by saying their prices are very affordable! I was so shocked to see a restaurant that doesn't require an arm/leg as payment, but I was thoroughly pleased at the same time. I started with the roti for an appetizer and it was veryyyy good! One of the best I've had. The accompanying sauce was delicious also, not overly spicy. For the main dish, I had the butter Thai shrimp and added a side of jasmine rice. The shrimp were extremely spicy and very thin -- almost felt paper-like. The rice was super sticky as well which I wasn't a fan of. What's keeping me at the 4-star mark is the exceptional prices and my friends' food being really good! I didn't get pics but they had the spicy fried rice (my favorite) and another had pad Thai. If I'm ever in the area, I'd come back for one of those dishes.

David M.

Yelp
Delicious food, great service, nice little place. Very friendly staff. I got the zero heat but still tasty and full of flavor.

Yelp
Thai food is one of this city's culinary weaknesses, in my opinion. So this restaurant has been a real godsend. Although they don't deliver, it's worth the trip to dine in. The small space is basic, but the service is warm. I ordered the delicious fresh spring rolls served with two sauces, Italian soup with vegetables, spice level two out of 5. But it really had a kick and made my nose run. So be warned about their spice levels! I got pad see ewe because I was in a sweeter breakfast type of mood, and it was flawless. It's a dish so many Thai restaurants mess up or make kind of flavorless. They got the texture on the flavor spot on here.
google avatar

Xykia S.

Yelp
The food was amazing. Everything was freshly prepared and seasoned well. They were out of the crab rangoon but I'll know next time I visit to get there early.

Yelp
Hey there, running back this time. Tried The Curry with chicken w the rice on the side. All I can say is delicious. Had to go back to the calamari the portion size was bigger this time Definitely an improvement. I must've caught them on a bad day and it was still delicious and those jalapeno crab meat egg rolls definitely a hit with their just a right amount of spice. As far as I'll be asking service still the same. No complaints just a suggestion. I believe if they dim the lights or just turn off the main and just leave on their accent lighting it will be a more intimate setting at night.

Yelp
I went back a while later to sit down this time and had a different experience. The sanitary situation of the place really gave me pause. There were flies all over the front of the restaurant, there was some sort of gross dirt in the water we got, the cups didn't look clean, and the overall hygienic situation left a lot to be desired. We were not surprised to see that the health mark on Yelp was on the lower end. While there, we noticed that a group who knew the owners came in and went about the kitchen, which didn't seem very sanitary. One of the owners also came out to talk to them, and my dining partner who could see into the kitchen was concerned that it looked like he didn't wash his hands before going back to work. The food itself wasn't horrible, but about an hour or so later I had the worst GI distress since I ate at a suspicious taco place in Mexico. My dining partner has also been having stomach aches and my stomach still feels weird hours later. The food tastes about the same as other Thai places here, so you might as well try to skip on the GI issues. Not trying to be negative, but we went there today based on the high reviews and so felt like another view should be presented based on today's experience since I wasn't going to say anything until the GI issues started. This does seem like more of a take out spot, so it might have been more the water than the food itself. The service was relatively good, but they did do some odd stuff like forgetting to give us a knife until we asked for one. Otherwise, they were friendly and did a good job of checking in multiple times.

Yelp
It's so hard to find good Thai food in the area, I'm always down to try somewhere new (to me). A local store recommended this restaurant and we had to go. The restaurant is small, but there is some shared seating outside as well. Due to the heat and frequent opening/closing of the door it does get pretty warm inside, luckily our water was super cold and left at the table for us to refill as needed. We started with the spring rolls and they were hot, crispy and super tasty. I would order them again, they came as a set of four. For meals we got a basic chicken fried rice which was yummy! It was a large portion but due to it being so good I ate it ALL! We also go a spicy fried rice, again super good and a large portion. We also got a green curry, we weren't asked the spice level on this and honestly it was too spicy. A small portion of rice was served with it but we should have asked for more to help with the spice. I wouldn't recommend it unless you are in love with the heat. We will 100% come back here and enjoyed our visit.

Jamie M.

Yelp
I've picked up two or three times now. I really enjoyed the drunken noodle, grilled chicken app, and the eggplant dish! I would skip the calamari next time. While tender, the pieces were very large. Also, I only live five minutes away, but things like fried calamari never travel well.

Katherine T.

Yelp
I just went here for the first time and I absolutely had to write a review about the Roti. It came out piping hot and with an incredibly delicious curry sauce. I've been on the hunt for good roti in New Orleans for the last year and this is my new favorite. I made myself stop eating it to have leftovers! I got the pad Thai with medium heat. It definitely opened up the sinuses a little but it wasn't overpowering. I thought they were pretty generous with the shrimp as well. Can't wait to come try more things (and get more roti!).
google avatar

Eowyn K.

Yelp
I have to give the owners credit for the naming of their restaurant, which is what caught our eye. The location was also perfect for dinner after Jazz fest. The interior isn't much, clean and basic. But the service was good, and the food was great, and came out quickly. We shared pad see ew and beef salad. Both were really good, but the salad in particular was flavorful. Be aware that the heat level here is high. I've been to Thailand and I enjoyed the food here, so ignore the pretentiousness and check out this little local spot!

Yelp
Small, cute place in Gentilly, but let me tell you the food is amazing! Small portions but it's so worth it! Service is good.

Emily S.

Yelp
Workers really Nice people but sketchy block at night. Right next to a neighborhood bar that isn't nice Spice level not what we expected. We got the lowest and could barely eat our food. Got Takeout Green curry very much like a soup, rice crunchy, eggplant oily and had an expired oil taste. Very few veggies in curry Drunken noodles combo- two shrimp not many veggies Pad Thai- meh All average. Too many other really good restaurants in Nola to try. Food on plates AT restaurant looked better than our takeout Went because of reviews, but they are inflated.
google avatar

Allyson M.

Yelp
So good. They even let me sample their curry, delicious! A regular go to for my family

Yelp
Absolutely amazing Thai food in an area of NOLA w/o much competition. The service was great and the prices were much cheaper than what I expected. We loved it!!!
google avatar

Nick L.

Yelp
The service and food was amazing g best drunken noodles in the city I love a saucy noodle and they delivered!!!! The fried pinnacle rice with cashews and I added chicken was amazing they browned the chicken and it just taste so amazing
google avatar

Tom K.

Yelp
Thai'd Up is a small, cute, family owned/operated Gentilly restaurant. The staff is very friendly and the food is very good. I had the roti bread, Tom yum soup with shrimp, drunken noodles with beef with Thai tea. The portions were good. I finished the soup and took half the bread and noodles home. All for $40! I would bump the heat up to medium the next time. But still good!
google avatar

Jas L.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite Thai places in New Orleans- and it never disappoints. I always start with the Roti bc I'm just a roti kinda gal. Also, listen as I scream "GET THE GRILLD PORK!!!!" You will not be disappointed. The noodles dishes are always great, my husband and I will share those. However, we never leave without the beignets, they are so delicious and a great spin on a New Orleans tradition. Go here if you want good food and great service.
google avatar

Lindy L.

Yelp
I've enjoyed every meal here. Definitely recommend. Great service and great addition to gentilly area.

Make Me A Singer C.

Yelp
Sugar Sugar Sugar...super fresh but if you don't ad heat it is too sweet. Instead of asking mild medium or hot or one, two, or three in spice they should ask one cup, 2cup or 3 cup sugar. The food is super fresh and can fool you in the beginning but then all you can taste is sugar. I've been there numerous times and used to order to go also I think it's gotten sweeter. It is an Americanized version of Thai food and they add a lot of sugar. If you're the average Joe that eats fast food and sugar and corn syrup you will love it.

Yelp
I was excited and honored to be the first folks in for lunch today, their first guests ever!! Freshly opened today, July 1, 2022, where Catty Shack Tacos were for the last many years on Gentilly near the Fair Grounds Racetrack. And while I am sad to see Catty Shack go, I LOVE the new Thai Restaurant that now occupies the space next to Jockey's and Toast. If you haven't been into the space before, it has a very petit dining area (6 or 7 tables?). I love the cozy atmosphere they have created, but, just understand that they are better equipped for smaller parties and take-out. We ordered a green papaya salad, a Pad Thai with chicken and Drunken Noodles with chicken. Each dish was delicious and a wonderful example of the flavors I expect when ordering Thai food. Please try them out!

Taja W.

Yelp
Food is amazing!!!! Service is amazing definitely returning Thai' wings are perfect and cook to perfection Drunken noodles are amazing!!! Everyone must try you won't be disappointed.
google avatar

Shanedyra D.

Yelp
Scratching another spot off my list. This place is located close to the Fair Grounds, alongside Toast Restaurant. You'll miss it if you're not looking for it. I walked in and was greeted by a nice worker. Quick order process and he answered my questions. The food took about 10 mins to come, I took mine to go. I ordered the Pad Thai and fresh spring rolls. The spice level on my Pad Thai was medium and when I tell you it was hot (but not too hot). Just be mindful of ordering the spice levels because the medium was hot to me. Full of flavor!! Sweet and spicy and delicious. The fresh rolls were also great and came with a sweet chili sauce and peanut sauce. Both sauces were delicious. I'm definitely going back to try other items.
google avatar

Victoria N.

Yelp
Good eats and great service :) I've tried almost everything on the menu and it's very delicious and flavorful. I'm picky about my thai tea but love it here too. Highly recommend! We even make the trek from the WB.
google avatar

Kim H.

Yelp
My daughter and I wanted brunch and we put our name on a wait list. While waiting outside we noticed this quaint Thai place. We walked in and was greeted with a smile. After looking over the menu I knew I had struck gold. The Tom Yum soup was absolutely divine. It was just what I needed. The Basil Chicken was absolutely the perfect blend of herbs and spices. The padthai had just the right amount of everything. And each dish came with a cute flower just to make you smile.
google avatar

Connie C.

Yelp
Took us awhile to place a take out order because you must call because you can't order online. We ordered drunken noodles with chicken, the grilled pork, and the vegetable rolls. While everything tasted flavorful, for the price, we weren't blown away by the small portions of food or the quality.

Vanessa Z.

Yelp
Great hole in the wall Thai spot. Pad thai was good imo and is the dish I judge all Thai restaurants by. The roti and curry was OMGeee amazing! The butter shrimp had a nice spicy grilled flavor and the beef salad packs a spicy punch lol.
google avatar

Genevieve F.

Yelp
The fried tofu was excellent. In fact, I'd say it was one of the best in New Orleans. The sauce it came with is a sweetish sauce but it's thin and not too sweet. The Tom Yum Soup was spicier than I like but often that happens. The Roti was exceptionally yummy and I only got the side. Next time I'll get the appetizer.
google avatar

Arthur W.

Yelp
Let's get into this meal! I started with the Butter Thai'd Shrimp. The shrimp are cooked to perfection but the sauce really makes this dish. If they ever decide to put this sauce in a bottle and sell it, I need to know ASAP. I would put this on everything! 10/10. Next up, I had the drunken noodles. The best part of drunken noodles are the vegetables in my opinion. Thai'd up has found the perfect balance of cooked and crispy veggies. The bell peppers, the carrots and my favorite the onions just add so much flavor to this dish. I finished with the Thai Beignets. They were delicious, airy and flakey. It was very similar to a croissant or a danish. I am ready for more right now. This restaurant is small but a nice vibe. I am not sure who curates the playlist but I need the link! The restaurant was jamming the day I went. And the service is 20 out of 10. They are very attentitive and the service is quick. All my food was cooked to order and piping hot. As I finished one dish, the next dish arrived. The cooks had to be paying close attention to pull this off. TOP NOTCH!!!

Brittany S.

Yelp
The wings here are amazing ! Highly recommend to anyone looking for authentic Thai food.

Evie B.

Yelp
This place is a hidden gem. The wings I had were cooked perfectly and so crispy. Big portions for low prices and excellent customer service
google avatar

Chelby S.

Yelp
Shrimp Drunken Noodles 10/10 - medium spice is perfect, hot is too the AC may have been out the day we went in because it was way too hot to be enjoyable, but I will definitely be back for takeout ASAP service is great too! orders came out super quick
google avatar

May W.

Yelp
Honestly wasn't impressed. Went because of the Yelp recommendations. However, portions were small, and spices were limited. Definitely not authentic flavors in any way. We ordered crab rangoon, egg rolls, pad thai and chicken basil. Everything tasted watered down, and it was clear my friend and I weren't their target customer (we are both authentic food connoisseurs, especially of the Asian variety since we both come from multicultural Asian backgrounds). And despite being the only table there for lunch, service was painfully slow. Only reason I didn't give 1 star was because the place was clean, and I appreciate different restaurants by the Fairgrounds. I just wish this was a better representation of the awesomeness that is Thai food.
google avatar

Kelly A.

Yelp
I like my Noods Drunkennn!! Ok, yeah. I was waiting for this spot to open, and they did not disappoint. The drunken noodles are flavorful and filling with that perfect sweet-heat blend. My only qualm is that my order took an hour to be ready. I understand that it's a small establishment and I did admittedly order at 6 something...dinner time. But, I was told that the wait would be 35 minutes and after arriving and waiting for my food, I'm seeing dine-in customers come in and get their orders within 15 minutes as I'm standing, waiting for my to-go order. That's not cool. After I called this out to the staff, my order magically appeared in 4 minutes. But I digress...I just won't order during rush hour anymore lol. The food was totally worth it! It's hard to find delicious Thai..I have definitely been back since!
google avatar

Raeven S.

Yelp
It's a small cozy spot, suitable for date night. Most of the food was fresh & had flavor. I think the portions were worth the price. We ordered the Fresh Spring Rolls, Thai beef jerky, Drunken Noodles with chicken, & Pad Thai. (the spring rolls were the least favorite) I love spice & I'm glad I read other reviews because the medium level of the Drunken noodles was good enough for me. I would definitely try again.
google avatar

Yvette D.

Yelp
Always love the food here! Small place, but always busy. Entree meals are well-priced. Appetizers are good, but a little pricey for what you receive. I still love coming here!

Michele T.

Yelp
The food is so tasteful and full of flavor no matter if you get it to go or eat it there!! Consistency is key and they knock it out the park!!!!
google avatar

Jared H.

Yelp
Pretty decent for a reasonable price. Be warned they know how to turn on the spice. Big portion size so can turn into 2 meals
google avatar

Jairo A. G.

Yelp
This place was surprisingly wonderful! It's away from the madness of the touristy Nola areas in the best way possible. We eat Thai food often, at home and everywhere we travel, and I have to say they have mastered their sauces. Their Pad Thai is now my favorite of all time. The roti was flaky perfection. Don't sleep on dessert either as both the sweet roti and the beignets were delightful. Compliments to the chefs. 5/5 stars! Great service and hands down legit great food. We hope to come back soon as we're from out of town. This place is definitely going on my must visit list.
google avatar

Haley H.

Yelp
This place is NOT playing around with spice levels. I normally get a 4 or even 5 at Sukho Thai, and a 4 here on pad sew noodles had me running to the fridge for milk. That is a good thing for most! Lol. Affordable, yummt food and a shop run by nice folks.
google avatar

Christina H.

Yelp
This is my second time eating here, and it will not my last. My absolute favorite Thai restaurant by a long shot! The location is just a short distance from City Park, but worth the drive even from the West Bank! It's difficult not to order the same thing from my first time at Thai'd Up, but I made it my mission to try everything on the menu. I'll always order their perfectly sweetened and creamy Thai tea. And, I couldn't help but get the Roti Roti Flatbread again - red curry sauce is addicting!! To be a bit more adventurous, we ordered Pad Thai and Spicy Eggplant dishes. Both dishes were well-seasoned and flavorful. I highly recommend starting off with medium spice level if you enjoy spicy food. Lastly, we ended our lunch with Sweet Roti (we can't resist Roti) which was half filled with a chocolate spread, and the other half with a condensed milk spread. I left the restaurant fat and happy, and can't wait to go back for more!
google avatar

Jada L.

Yelp
I absolutely love this restaurant!! The staff is so kind and friendly! Tommy is always a ray of sunshine and makes my boyfriend and I's dining experience so enjoyable. The restaurant's ambiance is amiable and inviting, and it gives off a warm energy like you are with your family. The food and the desserts are delicious. I recommend everything on the menu! Everything about Thai'd is honestly excellent!!
google avatar

Gabi V.

Yelp
It gives hole in the wall vibes with limited seating and random decor, but through the years I've learned that places as such put out good food with no frills. It was hotter than hades inside so we were lucky to score a table close to the fan. To cool off we ordered Thai iced teas which were a little sweet for my taste but nothing I couldn't fix by just diluting with some water. I opted for Tom yum with tofu and even though the broth was nice, I didn't love the fact that the tofu was fried but again, that's just a personal preference. Calamari was decent. Drunken noodles with beef was flavorful and the beef was nice and tender. The green curry was delicious. We ordered it with shrimp but the few pieces of eggplant were the star. Next time I would order it just with veggies and ask for extra eggplant, it was so creamy and comforting! The tab was about $60 before tip and honestly, with how expensive food is nowadays, I didn't feel robbed. I wouldn't get the soup or the calamari again but I did see some chicken wings brought out to the table next to us and they looked great. The place was busy with lots of carry out orders. It's a tad chaotic and not date night vibes but a great spot if you're looking for flavor. I will definitely be back to try other dishes, I see why they are well loved!
google avatar

Janie T.

Yelp
Everything was delicious! It was busy all night but service was awesome with short staff. They were able to accommodate a table of 6. There's only street parking but was able to get a spot around the corner. Their takeout was busy too! Excellent amount of spice and flavor of the food. The fried calamari and chicken wings had right amount of crispness and flavor. My whole family enjoyed it.
google avatar

arthur h.

Yelp
Don't walk run to this small quaint gem of a restaurant. Staff is very nice and the food is amazing. Can't wait to go back. Be warned the Thai hot is no joke. Get the spicy sweet sticky wings to start then explore from there.
google avatar

Vina L.

Yelp
Every time I come down to visit, I always try to stop here to get a bite!! The food is so authentic and fresh every time. We got the curry with roti and papaya salad as an appetizer. And for the entrees we got the shrimp pad thai and yellow veggie curry with rice. The curry with roti bed is so good every time!!! The roti comes out super hot (which I love) with the curry sauce. The papaya salad is spicy but just enough to keep on wanting more. It's not to the point where you can't keep eating. The yellow curry consistency was perfect and they had carrot, potatoes and onions. It was good! The perfect balance of sweetness and the consistency is a little creamy! I asked for a side of chili flakes to kick up the spice a little. The shrimp pad thai was also very good!! The shrimp was cooked to perfection and we got medium spice. I love the combination with peanuts mixed together because you can get a little crunch to balance with the soft noodles. Also, can't forget to squeeze the lime! The service is always so good, I look forward to seeing everyone. The owners are the sweetest and I love the wait staff ‍ (I forgot to take photos of the pad Thai and yellow curry bc we were so excited to eat LOL)

Yelp
Authentic and spicy! If you love Thai food this is a great hidden gem in Mid City. Try the Tom Yum soup, it's amazing!

Yelp
LOVE this new place! The service is friendly and fast, the food is fresh and DELICIOUS and the prices are reasonable. The ONLY thing regarding pricing that I wish they would change is charging $3 for a tiny side of sauce. My entire glass noodle dish with beef was a reasonable $14. But then to charge $3 when I asked for peanut sauce seemed like a lot.
