The Ambassador Room

This place is my secret addiction. About three months ago on a whim I had a craving for turkey which I never have a craving for, and I came across the ambassador room who at the time was having a special on their turkey club sandwich. It was sincerely love at first bite! The turkey is super fresh, avocado is just perfect, the bread is wonderfully toasted - I truly can’t get enough of it. It’s going on three months now and I have ordered the sandwich at least once a week. Bonus points too, When I placed a delivery through ubereats for the sandwich and I received the wrong item, management personally made sure that the issue was resolved and went above and beyond to make sure that I was happy. They’re just super nice, professional and seem to sincerely care about keeping their customers happy. If you ever go here, try the best turkey club sandwich in all of Chicago!

We moved into the neighborhood about two years ago and knew about this place, so we finally decided to give it a try for their “Sunday Brunch.” We booked an 11:00 AM reservation on OpenTable, showed up a little after 11, and were told they were closed. It makes no sense to accept reservations for the exact time you’re shutting down. Food was still out and others were dining. What we did see was disappointing. The buffet itself looked like something out of a Denny’s—definitely not the upscale brunch we were expecting. The dining room felt tired, not special. When we told the staff we had a reservation, one of them actually asked if we had a coupon, which only made us question this place even more. Needless to say, after waiting two years to finally try this place, it was a complete letdown. We walked over to the Bellevue and were seated immediately, had great food, and a far better experience. We won’t be back to the Ambassador Room. See pics for yourself.

Sat down at the bar that was 1/4 full and ordered tiramisu to go, waited 30 min and received something that was just taken out of the fridge that had been sitting there premade… and it was $12.50

I dinned in for breakfast, and the food was below average. My steak was pretty much cold. The server was completely checked out. Go to this restaurant with low expectations.

Amazing experience!!! The price was absolutely worth it; there were drink vouchers and breakfast every morning. On the last day, we had a flat tire and they were so helpful in getting us going safely (special thanks to Fernando for putting on the spare!)

My wife and I were driving past this spot and I don't know why, there was something about this spot that had me stop and look at it online; and I'm so glad I did. The next day when my wife was at a work dinner, I though of treating myself here. Sometimes you have to treat yourself to a good time too! It was a spectacular experience. The atmosphere is in one word, perfect for an amazing evening. It be a date with your significant other, friends or family or like me, lone wolf for the evening, the environment is quite perfect for any company. There were over 500 pictures of celebrities from what felt like over a century. The service, complemented the atmosphere and I felt like at home. Since they weren't as busy when I got there, I was walked to a choice of tables to pick. I choose the one by the window. From their choiced selection of menu items, I ordered the Corn Elote Ribs and their Moscato D'asti. They surprisingly complimented each other like olives and cheese. Samantha took great care of me and shared on Fridays they have a live band playing that creats an even unique experience and ambiance. After such a lovely experience, before we head back to LA, I secured a date to bring my wife this Friday and treat her to the same experience, perhaps a bit more unique. If you happen to be in the Lincoln Park area of Chicago, do stop by!

I think there is a lot of room for improvement with the front desk team. Generally, a lack of hospitality and willingness to help guests. I stay here because its convenient but I always have an ick after dealibg with the frobt desk. Also, forcing peopke to book through your website and being able to walk in and book in person is a terrible policy, especially since your onlibe booking is terrible.

I discovered the Ambassador Room when I looked into working at Ambassador Chicago for a day. Although I did not reserve a room, I did stop by the Ambassador Room for Happy Hour. Let me start with the delicious $8.00 Old Fashioned. The cocktail is $25.00 after 7:00 PM. The Crab Fritters were tasty and reminded me of crispy hush puppies. I tried a small portion of the well-seasoned Buttermilk Chicken Tenders because I ordered the Crispy Chicken Sandwich with a kale salad. I also sampled the Butler Burger. The French Fries were so good, we asked for another order. Finally, I ended the meal with chocolate cake. If you are a dessert person, you will enjoy the perfectly sliced shareable cake. The ambiance was great despite the low lighting. We checked out the pictures on the wall. How many famous people can you spot? Overall, I enjoyed Happy Hour. I will stop by again and sit at the bar instead of the high-top table. Even though the server did not recommend the Grilled Cheese Sandwich, I will try it when I go back. If you are looking for somewhere different to have a cocktail, try Happy Hour at the Ambassador Room.

Had a great stay at The Ambassador Room, which is now run by Hyatt. The location was fantastic, walking distance to Lake Michigan, a bunch of shops and restaurants, and the red line. We had a king room which was spacious and comfortable, the AC worked great, the bed was nice and firm, and they had blackout blinds that helped keep the room dark at night and cool in the day when we were gone. Everyone we talked to at the front desk was friendly, and they were quick to take action on any service requests we had, waters, more towels, etc. The hotel has a bar and gym, I didn't use either on my visit, but it was nice to know the options were there if needed. The area was super clean and safe, and we loved being able to walk to so many places from our hotel. We were also pretty close to a few bike racks, so we were able to walk to those an get bikes almost daily.

Pros: nice location (quiet, Gold Coast), convenient (a few blocks from CTA stop), incredibly large rooms (larger than some 1 bdrm apartments!), comfortable bed Cons: no room service, very few outlets to charge devices and the most uncomfortable couch ever (like where do you even buy a couch that feels like you're sitting on cinder blocks?!?), no coffee maker in room Would I stay here again? Sure. Is it awesome and crazy good? Nah.

Great experience here. Free early check-in if you are a Hyatt member. Staff was very friendly. Location too is hard to beat. Right by the water and a quick stroll into downtown. Would easily stay here again. Only complaint was that the bathroom especially the shower was quite small. Would also recommend finding parking nearby elsewhere. Parked in a garage 2 blocks away for half of the price of the hotel.

This is a review of The Ambassador Hotel itself and not the restaurant. We had an early morning flight out of O'Hare so we weren't able to take advantage of our breakfast benefits. The Ambassador Hotel is located on the Gold Coast on a nice residential street right by Lake Michigan. The hotel is located inside a historical building and you can see that by its facade and how they made use of the layout in the interior. It's ornate, but not ostentatious. The hotel once was part of Ian Schrager's empire and you can still see those elements of the Ian Schrager design. Minimalism at its finest. We were upgraded to a terrace suite which had a fantastic view of the Chicago skyline and Lake Michigan. The suite was large with a full living room, dining area, a small kitchen with a fridge and two walk in closets. Whether true or not, this was Michael Jordan's preferred suite whenever he's in town. It wasn't all perfect though. The bathroom was very small for the size of the suite, with a shower tub combo. There was a glass divider for the shower, but for some odd reason they also added a shower curtain. The shower was not wide enough to accommodate a curtain so I found it uncomfortable when the curtain was get stuck to my skin when I showered. Also, while the terrace was fantastic and large, there was one chair on the terrace. So it was somewhat of a disregarded space. That was disappointing as there was so much you can do with that space. The kitchen was a nice idea, but rather useless as the sink was a micro sink. The one issue we found and because we had an early flight was the walls and doors lacked sound insulation. We could hear drunk partiers walking from the elevator to their room on the other end of the building. Also, it's definitely not an accessible building as you have to go up several flights of stairs immediately entering the hotel. Overall, it was a nice stay for what it was and served its purpose for us, but if you're looking for elegance and you're within the World of Hyatt program, I would choose the Park Hyatt on the Magnificent Mile rather than The Ambassador. Even in its central location, the Park Hyatt felt like you were in a different world once inside and insulated you from the hustle and bustle of the Mag Mile.

Review for the hotel itself: The ambassador is a comfortable elegant stay in the Golden coast neighborhood in Chicago. A little further away, but a bit quieter and very comfortable. The staff here are excellent. The housekeeping is polite and timely, the maintenance team was quick to assist with a question about the tv and the front desk was prompt and responsive with additional requests. The room itself is wonderful. A bit tight on the entry due to it being an old historic building. But once inside the room it is spacious and very comfortable. Soft new carpet on the floor, a large tv and an ac unit that works better than nearly every hotel I've stayed at (and I travel 2-3 times a month). The bathroom is also gorgeous. Marble floors that recall the history of the building, a spacious bath/shower combo. It feels more homely than many hotels but still maintains elegance. Very comfortable. I would absolutely stay here again.

Once a marvelous hotel, the Ambassador Room has fallen on hard times. Guest noise will travel easily between adjoining rooms. So, like us, you may hear other hotel guests all night. Be prepared to wait in the restaurant and miss a day or two of room service because they are both understaffed. Oh, and don't expect any coffee in the room.

The only reason I tried this restaurant was because I was staying at the hotel. The bartender, Carolina, was friendly when we first sat down. She told us about the hotel and offered her favorites on the menu. Service was fast. My friends had the hummus and said it was amazing. We said we would be back as she highly recommended the bread pudding. When we returned later that evening, she was a completely different person. We had left some papers on the bar. When we asked if she had it, She looked us in the eye and said no, I threw that away. No apologies, no nothing. It also took us forever to get our drinks. I went back later in the week to have breakfast - again because I was staying at the hotel and it was raining. I had the breakfast sandwich minus meat and coffee. The food came quickly. It was fresh and the salad was very salty! Looked beautiful. Once everything was served I barely saw my waiter. I had to get my own refill of coffee. I watched others do the same. Not impressed. Highly recommend the Somerset. It is worth walking .3 miles in the rain.

Visiting Chicago and of course the Ambassador on the gold coast is where we are staying. This is a charming beaux arts style hotel featuring a mix of architectural charm and contemporary styles. On check in we were helped by Lola. She was warm, welcoming, observed all the Globalist perks. Lola went out of her way to make sure our stay would be five stars. She found us a delightful and very comfortable room. Also Lola, Kiera and Jasmine sent a nice snack up to our room too. They really pay attention to details here. Ultimately any hotel is really just a big box of bedrooms, it is outstanding people like Lola, Kiera and Jasmine that bring it to life. Highly recommend.

Great location, Excellent Staff, Dirty Rooms Stayed at the Ambassador a couple times over the summer, won't be returning. The front desk staff is wonderful, kind and helpful. Beautiful lobby. Walkable, convenient location. The rooms were nasty. Stained pillows and curtains, dirty floors. Towels that need to be replaced. Used q-tips on bathroom floor. Aside from these obvious cleaning shortfalls, the place is desperately in need of a remodel and refresh. I'm sure back in its day it was very nice, but there comes a point where things are so old they can't be cleaned anymore and need to be replaced (toilets, sinks, tubs). The Ambassador is at this point. This is evident from the dated fixtures to the cracked molding and worn out furniture. I hope they can start improving the property to match the level of its outstanding front of house staff.

Came in for dessert. Ordered and never saw anyone again. We sat there for at least 20 minutes after ordering and finally just got up and left. Worst service in Chicago.

Stepping into history is one of the things that makes your hotel stand out from others. The Hyatt offers many hotels in the Chicago downtown area however, none offer the history and charisma as the Ambassador. The Ambassador is a landmark hotel with the classic elegance and grandeur of a historic property.The space and location cannot be better. The only thing missing is the level of customer service that accompanies such a great property. We had a 9 day stay from Monday, September 26th through Tuesday, October 4th. Over the stay, housekeeping completely missed servicing our room three days. On Sunday I gave the housekeeper a $5 tip before leaving and we still did not receive service that day. Additionally, four times the housekeeper did not leave body wash. She left four bottles, however she doubled up on lotion. One day she left a trash bag on the floor. Then on Monday this week, she also left a trash bag in our room. While one of these things are minor, the continued missed service and attention to detail demonstrates a lack of process and checklist for the housekeeping staff. I would like to mention the housekeeping staff did turn in a pair of Ugg slippers to security when they were left in the room upon checking out, which I appreciated. Upon checking out, I mentioned to the counter clerk that I purchased the parking stay package, the person checked with the manager and was instructed on how to charge for the room. HMMMMMM.... The 2 page paper receipt provided to me at checkout did not match the email copy I received. There was a third page of parking charges on the email copy; charges were for $24 per day. Again, I am not sure why there is a disconnect here, but it is bad business to omit details at check out. Since then, the manager has adjusted my credit card for the additional parking charges. Maybe it's time to find a new spot.

Came here with a friend to try afternoon tea and was so disappointed. First they require a charge card to reserve with consequence of being charged fee if don't make It or have to cancel late which I can understand but not when they charge the card without authorization. Friend and I split the tab and completed credit card transactions but then apparently they did it wrong and just processed card on file with no contact what so ever. They also automatically charge 20% tip to bill regardless of party size and then misleadingly put it on bill labeled as "service charge" and never mentioned this during meal. Tea options were plentiful and they were willing to bring more then one choice if request. Cakes were okay. Enjoyed scones the best but no comparison to afternoon tea experience in England. Server also couldn't answer questions indicating he was new which just took away from experience a bit too. Wouldn't return or recommend.

Friendly and helpful staff with easy check-in and check-out options. We stayed in a Junior Suite and my only feedback would be to have extra sheets, blankets and pillows for the pullout bed ready in the closet.

I was a bit concerned at the beginning based on my initial experience/interaction with front desk personnel upon checking in... Fortunately it got better, thanks to the bartender Alex who did all the good things in customer service. The management should recognize someone like him who 'gets it' in my opinion. The decor is really nice and it has the wow factor when you walk into the lobby. I love those vintage/classic properties with modern/clean renovation (w/o losing the original design). When I am in town, I will be back here again.

For a long extended stay it's been boogie w nice attitudes all the way. No complaints. The ambience of the old Pump room and attitude of kindness ,gracefulness , from the front desk to the restaurant to the bell hubs (always giving the dogs treats ) we just can't say thank you enough times. Location Astor St , Goethe and State parkway are far enough from the rush street nightlife that you can sleep well In These rooms. As an added extended stay I was given the Marylyn Monroe Suite and yes it's quaint w the dressing area which we used for the dogs room ,,,,,as well the masseuse area. Fabulous. The library in the am for your espresso!!!!!!Is beyond words. ‍ magical. Harry Potter backdrop.

The staff were very polite and friendly. I was fortunate to get upgraded to a one bedroom suite. It is very spacious with a lot of closet space. The bathroom was small though and very basic, with white tiles, small sink, and a commercial toliet. It flushes so loud that you also hear the next door guest flushing their own toilet. Chromecast worked perfectly however their high speed internet as advertised has intermittent connection and it's really frustrating. Destination fee is not waived even when you're a Globalist. Only when redeeming points. I confirmed this couple of times when I called them. I think this is the only place that doesn't waive destination fee or resort fee. I'd rather stay at Thompson Hotel or Chicago Athletic association as they are on the same Category now. Breakfast was basic but good. Just a little frustrated, our pastries were never served as promised. The bed, sofa bed and chairs were all very low. I wonder why. But the mattress is very comfortable. One thing I liked about this hotel are the black out curtains/blinds. It's very nice especially if you want to sleep in. Also, we appreciate the complimentary valet parking and 4pm late checkout as perks of World of Hyatt Globalist member. Location wise, this is nicely located close to Magnificent mile and Lincoln Park.

I stayed here from a Thursday to Tuesday on a Columbus Day Weekend. I came to Chicago for the Marathon 2022 and this hotel provided me with good support for my run by addiction healthy food choice in the morning. I especially liked to thanks the housekeeper, a Cantonese speaking lady named E.L. On 12th floor, Who refused to be tipped and fixed our room daily while taking good care of my runner gear. Although the room we were placed was kind of small, the location is convenient for me to get to the starting line as well as many scenic spots downtown. The gym is clean and good enough for me to get ready for my marathon. It made my stay delightful.

We snagged a last minute reservation here to celebrate my friend/business partner's birthday. We just wanted to eat Chinese takeout and watch movies and get away from the fams. The lobby is lovely. There is a sitting room off the lobby that is just gorgeous. I think if Covid wasn't a thing, they serve coffee and such in there. But it's just for sitting now. Bummer. Check in was sloooooow. There were two parties ahead of us and it took like a half hour. Our room felt... vintage. Small. We could hear our neighbors. But honestly, it was perfect for what we needed so it's all good. The location is amazing. Lots of things within walking distance. A good overall experience.

We booked the Terrace Suite - West for our anniversary after almost a year of admiring pictures of the views online. There are only two terrace suites at this hotel (East and West). It was a very special occasion for us. We've never booked anything so expensive, but we were excited and considered it our anniversary gift to each other. We received email confirmation at the time of our booking almost a month before our stay, specifically naming the Terrace Suite - West. My husband also called the property to double-check and was reassured that the reservation was in the system. We received a reminder email a couple of weeks later, naming that suite again. We even received a link for online check-in the night before our stay. We arranged for childcare, paid for pet care, and drove from two states away for this experience. Ten MINUTES before arriving, the front desk called to say that the Terrace Suite - West would not be available for us. We were beyond disappointed. The only other terrace suite was also occupied, so they could not offer anything comparable. The manager said something about "someone accidentally gave that suite to another customer as an upgrade" and they were already in the room. How is this possible when we booked that particular suite several weeks prior and had multiple confirmations in writing? Why did someone else get upgraded while we got extremely downgraded? We were already in Chicago at this point, so we just stayed in a random room (they offered a discounted rate, but we still had to pay) and free breakfast. We would have rescheduled to the weekend before or after if we had received ANY warning. The purpose of this trip was to enjoy the special terrace suite. Buyer beware: reservation confirmations, even in writing that you've printed out, might be changed at literally the last minute. Edited to add: we had booked directly through the hotel website (not a third party site) and arrived early hoping for early check-in, so giving away the room before 11 AM was ridiculous. Hyatt customer service is working with us.

Update: they refunded my credit card. They charge me $81 a night for a room. I said i already prepaid back in August. I got an apology. Yay!

Great 3 night stay at The Ambassador, a hotel I have stayed at previously whereas this was my first visit back to Chicago since 2014. This classic hotel has a warm vibe the very second you walk through the front door and head towards reception where you see the classic clock overhead and the cozy fireplace/living room area. Cool retro vibe and I really love the neighborhood it is situated in--a classy residential area that gives one more of a locals vibe (similar to Gramercy Park in NYC) yet still close to the Magnificent Mile, Old Town and Lincoln Park. On this particular visit many of the nearby homes went all out with Halloween decorations. The receptionists were all friendly and helpful, the rooms were decent sized and nice. Only suggestion: could upgrade the shower soap--but other than that a great visit. I did not have a drink at the bar in the restaurant but it is very cool (cave like) looking and love the old photos of celebrities hanging on the wall.

So happy to have a full-service bar back at The Ambassador. Great food, great staff, great atmosphere - and live music on Fridays. Superb.

Incredible history! Marilyn Monroe to Led Zeppelin, the vibes are real! Had a great stay at the famed Ambassador and loved the cozy "library lounge." Great location in ritzy Gold Coast. Local parking options are awful and hotel valet is expensive tho :)

Very pleased with 4 night stay here. As first time visitor to Chicago, I did not realize what a lovely neighborhood it is in... the "Gold Coast." I tanked up on good tasting, complimentary coffee every morning in the lobby and strolled the quiet streets which abut Lake Shore Drive.... My north facing room with queen bed was quiet, comfortable, clean and and spacious enough. Water pressure was Olympic quality. Occasionally, there was a short wait for elevators but not bad. Hotelier Ian Schrager must be the one behind the remodeling and upgrades of this 1920s landmark -- it has panache. Lobby and other hotel staff was very pleasant and Kenzie was particularly helpful with city info. Hotel bar and restaurant looked nice and have a storied history, but I personally avoid using hotel facilities when I am a tourist. Highly recommended hotel.

Had the best stay here! First off, the hotel has the friendliest staff I've ever encountered and they were incredibly helpful with all of our needs. Initially our standard room was a bit smaller than expected, however it was honestly very charming, clean, and reminded me of hotels I've stayed at in Europe. It ended up being perfect for us. The rest of the hotel is very chic and learning about the history behind it was so fun. It's also situated in the Old Town area of Chicago which is super walkable and close to both the beach and the city. I don't think we will stay anywhere else going forward, we just loved the Ambassador so much!

I left a favorable review on Trip Advisor - I would visit and stay here again - anytime! Ms. K. Robinson provided excellent service upon check in, and during my stay. Room was comfortable and clean, the bed was SUPER comfy, and I had everything I needed. Easy DoorDash delivery, and just a few minutes from a nearby CVS and Jewel/Osco. Ordered some food after check out and sat in the lounge area and played Scrabble before catching an Uber. I really enjoyed this hotel! It has a nice vintage stamp of approval.

The Ambassador was a huge miss for us. On the egregious side-- the shower had black mold, and quite a bit of it, and when we brought it up to the front desk they seemed unphased. Additionally, the beds don't have fitted sheets-- they only have flat sheets above an exposed mattress, so if you move at all in the night you'll touch a fully bare mattress. On the annoying side but not AS disgusting side--when we checked in did we find out that they don't offer any room cleaning or turndown service-- if you want amenities replaced you need to ask. They additionally don't offer room service, which is fine but something that needs to be noted. Folks working at the desk weren't generally kind, and when we asked to switch rooms were initially skeptical.

I had very high hopes for the Ambassador. Upon check-in, I was impressed with the lobby. The lobby is trendy, well-maintained, and even smells good! My check-in process was smooth and the staff was accommodating to my late check-in. Unfortunately, some service issues really brought down my experience and this rating. The first issue is that the Ambassador is in an old building, likely with plumbing that has not been updated for quite some time. I experienced a plumbing issue the first morning of my stay. I asked to have my room switched, but the front desk was unwilling to accommodate my request and promised that the issue would be fixed. I was leaving for the day before the hotel could send an engineer to check out the issue, so I asked for them to please call to update me when the issue was resolved. I never received a phone call update, and returned to my room in the evening unsure as to whether the plumbing issue was even fixed. I had to call the front desk and be transferred multiple times before I received an update... 8 hours after the original phone call to report the issue. The second problem arose when I ordered room service. I ordered a sandwich from the menu for a quick bite, and was told that it would be up to my room in 10-15 minutes. I was excited about the quick turnaround on food after ordering! Well, 20 minutes passed, 30 minutes passed, and finally at 45 minutes, I called down to inquire about my food. I was told "it would be up shortly." After almost an hour, the food was finally brought up. I am more than willing to wait for room service, particularly during busy hours, but please do not promise me a 15 minute wait and then take an hour to deliver my food upstairs. Finally, the blow dryer. It might seem minuscule, but this is not the type of blow dryer that should be in a 4-star hotel room. I walked to Target a few blocks away to buy a travel blow dryer because this machine could barely muster warm air. Unfortunately, my stay at the Ambassador did not meet my expectations for that of a 4-star rated hotel. I felt uncared for as a patron, which is never a good feeling to have when staying at a hotel. Some major changes in staff procedures and room upgrades need to occur before I would consider this a "luxury" hotel.

This place used to be my all time favorite - classy, romantic, sophisticated and sexy! Celebrated many events at the restaurant and the bar and stopped there just for the night cap every chance I had! It's in the crème de la crème Chicago neighborhood and hotel itself is at the amazing vintage building. This place was always a treat and I saw many celebs there having a good time. After the Covid I couldn't wait for it to re-open and I was there on the first week after opening. It was so sad to see how it changed for worse and service became awful. Restaurant was closed and never re-opened since. Bartenders were barely English speaking men, no manners, no personality and very unfriendly. So I decided to give it more time. So couple of days ago I stopped by again. Right from the start, I noticed the bartender, Karolina, and her very unpleasant demeanor. Very unfriendly, negative attitude and she looked like she just woke up. Zero conversational skills, no smile, angry face with zero makeup. I stayed for one drink and she was making so much noise throwing things around, making drinks for other customers, I can't imagine anybody was relaxing. It was so sad to experience this, especially that she couldn't even mix my cocktail correctly. I stayed for about and hour and noticed she never washed her hands and kept throwing things into the garbage can from the distance. Constantly flipping her long hair...Just very unprofessional. I also noticed another woman working there, she was kind of hostess I guess, but again, she looked like homeless. It was nothing to host there since restaurant was closed and empty, but she came few times behind the counter to whisper something to Karolina and then just stared at me. Very strange to say the least... I only hope that this is all temporary and things will change for better! Sorry, I just have higher expectations from such a historic place and also my favorite hangout. Where is the finesse, good looking, professional knowledgeable bartenders dressed nicely, pleasant music, amazing service, etc?? I will try again in few months.

My shirt was taken from my room by the staff when cleaning. I specifically traveled to Chicago for a concert and that was my tour shirt so it's very upsetting. And it took 6 phone calls of me following up because they disregard the issue that their staff stole from my room. I was never compensated. Problem still unsolved. 0 stars

I'm so glad I discovered the ambassador after a terrible bait and switch Airbnb booking. This place is nestled in the Gold Coast within walking distance to everything you would want from a visit to Chicago. Great food, views, and shopping are all steps away. Also the boutique hotel has a small but sufficient gym, lovely restaurant and bar(gave me a $10 gift card at checkin), and huge comfy beds. Shower was strong and piping hot. Staff are were friendly and super helpful as well. Checkout wasn't until 12! Can't say enough. Will definitely be back.

Disgusting service! We booked a suite! Our check-in was supposed to be at 3pm, we arrived at the hotel at 5pm. At the reception we were charged $1200 for the room rate + $200 deposit. After the payment went through, we were told that our room was not ready and we had to wait for it to be removed! To my question, how did it happen that you took the payment with a deposit and only after that they said that my room was not ready, given that the check-in was at 3 o'clock and not at 5 five in the evening, the manager could not answer anything! Not offering anything other than to sit at the reception and wait for the housekeeper to clean the room I do not recommend this hotel

Had an amazing long weekend stay at the Ambassador with my partner this summer. The kindness and amazing service by the staff really blew us away. Chef Greg, the bartender Jaas, and the staff on shift for breakfast all went above and beyond for us! We really loved starting the day with breakfast sandwiches (super yum) and iced coffee, and ending a long day of exploring at the hotel bar. Whenever we come back, we would love to stay here again! We booked through Chase travel, and had no hassles with our reservation or checking in. The location was a good base to navigate around Chicago - really close to the red line and we could get into downtown, but also easy walking distance to the beach and Lincoln Park. The hotel is also really close to Division Street that has a bunch of restaurants and bars, and also a farmer's market over the weekend. We didn't spend a ton of time in our room, but it was comfortable and provided a good amount of storage. Air conditioning was strong just like we like it. The bedding was a little weird (no fitted sheets like we're used to, just tucked in flat sheets) and there was no bedbug protector on the mattress, but the room was still very clean and we've had no issues since returning.

We just stayed at the Ambassador Chicago for a tradeshow visit. I have to say of all of my trips to Chicago through the years, and I've had many, the Ambassador is probably my favorite hotel. It's so quaint and old-school and charming. If you need bustling and up to the date and fancy then this is not the place for you. But if you like old-school charm , quietness , comfort than this is the right place. From checking in to valet service we felt welcomed and appreciated every step of the way. This will be my go to hotel every time I'm in Chicago from now on.

We had a wonderful special experience for afternoon tea at Frank Sinatra's private table. The scones, savory sandwiches, and the sweets made in house were absolutely delicious! The High Tea was beyond memorable at this Chicago historic haunt. We also enjoyed the visits and chats with the restaurant manager and chef, giving us context for the various treats. Thanks Bradly for the service!

Great find. Loved the neighborhood and the hotel. Accidently forgot something in the room after we checked out and the staff were extremely helpful in getting it back to us (Thanks, Tony!) Would definitely stay again if back in Chicago

The room they assigned to us was an extreme disappointment. Music blaring at night kept us awake. The curtain was covering the air conditioner so if you wanted to get air you had to keep the curtain open, but then light came in at night! No maid service was provided for our three day stay and the bathroom had peeling paint, pillows were flat and you needed several to get comfortable, lastly, you can't even sit on the toilet without bumping into the sink. The only redeeming value that this place has is that the staff were friendly.

Beautiful hotel and the people who work here and excellent. We came in here for some bar bites and cocktails very snazzy. It has the vintage vibe of Chicago with class and elegance.

You are paying for the location, not the quality of the hotel. The front desk people were welcoming and accommodating. I was able to check in an hour early, which was nice! Other than that, the bed and pillows were the most uncomfortable I've ever slept on. The duvet insert didn't have a cover, just a sheet on each side, which was very odd. The water pressure in the shower was great, but other than that, the bathroom was lackluster. I would not stay here again, and would not recommend, unless the price for a room was under $100. This hotel has so much potential, the grand entry way does not match the rooms. Ambassador Chicago, hit me up if you'd like someone to renovate your rooms. I'd be more than happy to take this on... you can do so much better!

We came to ambassador (previously the Public) two weekends ago for two nights. When I first made a reservation, I requested and was told that I would have one king bed. Surely, we show up and we are told otherwise. I told the receptionist of the mistake but she has no interest in amending the issue and was in fact frankly rude about the issue raised. Instead of arguing I let it be, we had two full beds. When the elevator let us off on our floor, we immediately noticed a sea of sounds in the hallway, made from loud TVs, loud and lonely dogs, and poorly insulated walls. So loud really that we had difficulty sleeping. We called down again asking for the front desk to handle the situation and much not to our surprise, it was not handled in any sense related to the word professional. Because of the rain, we went to the pump room for food and drinks. The service was awful and for the quality of the food, the prices were too high. The next morning, when I returned from a morning walk, sure enough we encounter an issue in our room; the cordless phone did not work at all and the TV wasn't functional. I had enough and approached the management about the issue. He firmly decided that we would not switch rooms and as a kind gesture delivered a bottle of champagne to our room later in the evening for the troubles. This was certainly appreciated, but, it solved zero problems. You are better off going to another hotel that has their act together. The place is in a nicer part of the city and charges top dollar to stay there; the experience at the hotel should match the price. It falls flat on multiple levels.

The hotel's location and customer service are what make this a great choice when in Chicago! It's situated in a quiet, upscale neighborhood where you can easily walk to restaurants, shopping, the lake, and the train station. We stayed in a Deluxe King Bedroom and felt like we were living in a swanky apartment of our own. It had plush carpets, a comfy low-profile bed, romantic lighting, and a spacious closet and bathroom. Shout-outs to Kay and Melvin at the front desk for their warm hospitality and Chris at the bar for allowing us to get a couple of drinks right at closing time!

Restaurant is closed and the bar closes at 9:30pm on Fri/Sat. So sad. Hope this historic gem can recover.

Excellent food and service. The old fashioned was one of the best I've had. Truffle fries were very good. Not necessarily a children's atmosphere but they were wonderful and kind to my kids.

Wanted to love this place but stay somewhere else. Had to move all my bags myself. Has potential but isn't the one for me...

I stayed there and left on 9/21. They charged me $100 a night for incidentals. It's 10/4 I haven't seen this money. I've called the hotel twice. First time the girl said ok it was released it can take up to 7 business days. Second time I called the guy told me to call the Mgr I think his name might be Malcolm he said it can take 21 days. If I knew this info upfront I wouldn't have stayed here

We chose the Ambassador Room because we were staying at the hotel. (Our room was clean and a bit small - no real desk for writing.) Although we were the first people in the restaurant, our waiter was not informed of our presence for some time. He, Brad, apologized and took our drink order. My wine tasted off, and he quickly got me a new glass of another vintage. During the long wait for our food (though there were only two other couples there) we were not offered a cracker, a breadstick or any other sort of bread. The food was good, but the portions were small, especially given the price. Brad the waiter was friendly and as efficient as he was able to be. It was, however, a disappointment for a 70th birthday dinner. A word about breakfast. McDonalds has better oatmeal. The tiny plastic spoon/fork combo we were given did not even reach to the bottom of the yogurt parfait plastic cup. Really? They could not manage metal utensils in a classy, cozy library setting? Overall, the Ambassador Hotel has friendly staff, but too many corporate shortcuts. I'm sure the standards were higher when Frank Sinatra visited.
