The 8 Best Bars In Highland Park - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"If you're looking for a mellow spot on Figueroa to sip fancy cocktails with friends, the front room of this Highland Park cocktail bar is a reliably chill option. The moody, low-lit lounge plays 80s throwbacks for an early 30s crowd and serves interesting drinks, like a ginger-infused vodka and blood orange number that might jumpstart your appetite. Fortunately, Arroyo Club also serves an excellent double smashburger with crisp-edged patties and spicy chipotle aioli, which you order using a QR code at the table. If a dancier crowd is more your speed, Arroyo Club shares a back patio with a speakeasy-ish cocktail spot that we like even better, Good Housekeeping." - nikko duren, brant cox

The 10 Hottest Cocktail Spots in Los Angeles

"Highland Park’s Cafe Birdie is now a cocktail bar called the Arroyo Club. The bar has done away with the food menu, instead focusing on a creative cocktail menu. Try the Rio Verde with mezcal, tomatillo, cilantro, Combier orange liqueur, and lime, or the Lilypad Martini with vodka, dry vermouth, and olive oil. In addition to cocktails, wine and beer are also available. Though the bar itself no longer offers food, guests can order burgers from the Hotline via QR code to enjoy with their drinks." - Mona Holmes, Rebecca Roland, Eater Staff

Arroyo Club Opens in Highland Park With Easygoing Burgers and Cocktails | Eater LA

"Reopened in mid-January after a minor 2023 renovation, I found Arroyo Club repositioned from the old Cafe Birdie into a 2,200-square-foot cocktail lounge that still retains brasserie charm but now features new paint, indoor plants, updated furniture, and a reworked layout. Rather than operating as a standalone restaurant, it functions as a cocktail-forward room with food coming from the adjacent Hotline; customers can order via a QR-code menu through Arroyo Club’s app or from bartenders, and the Hotline burger window will offer bar bites such as beef or plant-based smash burgers, grilled cheese, and classic tater tots. Former Cafe Birdie barman Alejandro Santana developed a new cocktail program that mixes classics like margaritas and martinis with originals including the midnight kiss (rice-washed tequila, cinnamon, cold brew, amaro, and chocolate). The beverage list also includes a rotating natural wine selection (reds, whites, or a pet nat), beers, and a non-alcoholic cocktail menu. I noted the owners made the change partly to fit shifting dining habits and price sensitivities in the neighborhood." - Mona Holmes

LA’s New Restaurant Openings - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"Highland Park has a new bar in the old Cafe Birdie called The Arroyo Club, and it’s on the dark and moody side. This low-lit bar has exposed rafters, foliage dangling from the ceiling, and an illuminated bar pouring interesting cocktails. There’s the Midnight Kiss with rice-washed tequila, chocolate, and cold brew, and if you order the bourbon-spiked Tío Mio, your money goes to support historically Black colleges and universities." - Sylvio Martins

Google
Chill and stylish place to have a few drinks. Decent amount of tables and a few booths inside. There's also a small patio in the back. They have happy hour until 7 everyday. Highlights are the $12 cocktails. They have a small food menu with daily specials. You have to order off the QR menu from your phone and pick up at the window. The food is pretty good. Overall a cool place. Service was good. Friendly staff. There's street meter parking or there's a parking lot behind the building.

Google
This place is amazing the ambience is sexy, mature, clean, everything just goes well together . The first green, good , wood, and rustic colors are a whole vibe. We sat inside at first but wanted to take some fresh air and sat on the outside tables and there was shattered glass. I did get cuts on the side of my hand and we did tell one of the ladies which quickly cleaned up the left glass. It was honestly really hard to notice that there was any . She brought me a 🩹 and alcohol wipe to clean my cut . So thank you to the staff . The food was so good . I came on a Wednesday and it was a happy hour slider with fries. I did order it with beyond meat so it was $2 dollars more but so good so tasty . I also met the general manager and he was great .

Google
Love this place. Introduced me to spaghetts, and it’s basically all I drink now. The staff is so nice. I like the fries so much. Also last night 9/26/25, the playlist was awesome. Loved the music. I always meet the most random characters here too. It’s such a welcoming little place.

Google
This used to be cafe birdie and I think they're kinda uncertain if they're a bar or restaurant cause you can get food here tho it's a bar primarily. Drinks were nice and strong; atmosphere dark and chill. I had Blanton's for $21 which is a welcome change from the $45 they charge you downtown. We also ate, I had the jerk chicken sandwich which was ok, a little heavy on the vinegar. She had the short rib which she said was good. They have a very cool budget build -your-own highball which was great plus a pretty interesting drink menu. Definitely worth checking out!

Google
Brand new spot in highland park. Hip spot for unique cocktails + natural wine. Didn’t realize they had food but they have an awesome burger joint hidden in the back down a small hallway. Full on a Thursday night. Will come back

Google
Enjoyed the place as a whole. Cool drinks, and casual vibe. Met with a co-worker here both of would return here. Food was good too. We sat at the bar, bartenders all were friendly and worked great as a team.

Google
I hadn’t been in my old neighborhood for a while, so I was surprised to see that Cafe Birdie loved no longer at this space, but this new Arroyo Club looked vibing, so I came in with my friend for a drink. The energy was great, the cocktail menu was inventive, the bartender was friendly and attentive, and our drink order (Arak and a Hard Place) was a lovely change from the typical spirits you find in most cocktails. I’d love to come back to try more items, including the burger that they have on its own limited food menu. 🤌🏼

Google
this place rocks. atmosphere is top notch and classy. nice variety of seating (booths, stools, patio tables) happy hour til 7pm (on weekdays at least) great late night and good value food options throughout the night.

Yelp
I liked it. Cool place to have a few drinks. Inside is modern and stylish. Decent amount of tables and a few booths. There's also a small patio in the back. Came in for happy hour with friends. Happy hour is until 7 everyday. Highlights are the $12 cocktails and $10 boilermakers. There's a small food menu with daily specials. You have to order off the QR menu on your phone and pick up at the window. They send you a text when it's ready. Kinda interesting. We enjoyed the $1 wings Tuesday special. The wings were good! I liked the mango habanero flavor. Overall a cool place, would definitely come back. Service was good. Friendly staff. There's street meter parking up and down the block or there's a lot behind the building.

Yelp
This place is cute, kind of, and the customers are cool, but you 100% will be ignored if you aren't already friends with the bartenders. Like literally for a really long time. They won't take your order, they will forget to make your order, all the while hooking up their friends who came in wayyyy later than you and just sitting and chatting to them while you sit at the bar waiting. Not good business.

Yelp
Went for a drink with friends before our reservation at a bar nearby (which I won't mention!). Had never been but found it on Yelp. My group of 4 was pleasantly surprised. Loved the interior and vibe. Would definitely go back.

Deidre M.

Yelp
Happy hour hopping yesterday and this was on our last stop! I hadn't been here since the Cafe Birdie Days so was happy to be back--such a cute interior. The bartender was v personable and enjoyed sitting at the bar (which I normally don't do). I ended up getting a margarita (was good) and my friend got the plum cocktail but they modified it since she can't have gin. It was bomb! She also tried to jungle cocktail and it wasn't sweet--it was perfect and strong! We also ordered the "thin fries" and although tasty, they were regular thickness haha No complaints here and would def be back! Thanks for the great service and yum drank!

Yelp
Awesome bar that I never really knew was here. I typically never come out to highland park during night hours but figured my buddies and I try something different. The bar is nice, music is good - loud but not loud enough where I can't hear the person in front of me. Luckily this place has a small burger bar (Smash Burger) that's actually pretty decent! Past the burger bar, there is another bar in the back along with an outdoor patio to enjoy your drinks. Even with the two bars and outdoor seating, this place can still get pretty busy. There is public parking in the back and street parking BUT play it smart and Uber!

Petey P C.

Yelp
We really enjoy the vibe of the arroyo club ,great music ,comfy booth and great cocktails .They have specials everyday on the food and the burger is pretty good ..l

Yelp
My new go to place if I'm hankering for wine and smashburgers! I can't believe it took me a long time to discover this place. Obsessed is an understatement. Music, ambiance, and service were just perfect. Good music. Good selection of wine and mixed drinks. Yummy smashburgers and tater tots (speakeasy style). Good service. Outdoor area if you want some quiet and decide to bring your furbaby. Drinks - order at the bar Food - order on the app and pick up on a side window Parking - street Best new "club" in town. Do not share. Haha

Yelp
I stumbled upon The Arroyo Club on instagram. So, I decided to swing by on their one year anniversary. I can see what all the fuss is 'bout. I had a wedge salad. Yes! They serve salads here. The people next to me at the bar had a grilled cheese sandwich and fries. Who doesn't love a grilled cheese sandwich!? At the bar...... I drank bubbly and since they were celebrating their anniversary they had a flash tattoo artist in the patio. Yeah! I got a tattoo with my salad. The service? Wow! Alejandro is a character in the best way possible. A hoot if you will with love and respect. He knows his stuff! First time here and not my last. I'd give you five stars but considering it's your birthday I don't know that the vibe is always like this and the service this good. Maybe next time. Maybe....... Happy February everyone!

Yelp
Great local spot w/ $1 wings on Tuesdays and a daily happy hour which is nice for a weekend. Can be a casual friend meet up or a first date spot. Most of the tenders are super chill and will drum up something nice for ya. I do wish the crowd was more diverse but I suppose it's just HLP in 2025, we'll blame it on Le Labo up the street HAH.
google avatar

Rosita T.

Yelp
The vibe here is awesome. Very elegant but cozy. The best part is the Happy Hour from 6pm to 7pm on a Saturday! The drinks are very different and creative. I tried the Arak and a Hard Place and it was delicious! The Burger was cooked to perfection and you can never go wrong with Tater Tots. The barkeeper was very nice too. We'll be back!
google avatar

John E.

Yelp
What a cool spot to hang out on a Saturday afternoon and enjoy some classic cocktails. Excellent service and excellent drinks. Be prepared to spend a little money but the reality is if you want a quality cocktail in this town that's just the way it is now. This place certainly delivers. We will be back.

Yelp
Time to pull a Madonna with a name change. Formerly known as Cafe Birdie, this place has transformed into a bar. I liked that they had a bar inside as well as outside area. Good Housekeeping and Arroyo Club are both interconnected as they share the same restrooms and credit card machines LOL. When I checked my credit card statement, both transactions stated Cafe Birdie even thought they are both technically two different locations. Be prepared for some strong drinks at this bar. I still prefer Good Housekeeping in the back

Yelp
Second time at this bar love the vibes and the drinks I would just say the older gentleman at the bar that's there at night isn't the friendliest and he's rude noticed this both times and don't feel comfortable ordering from him! He definitely doesn't make the place a good experience at all!!!!! The other 2 younger bar servers were great!!!

Yelp
This is my new favorite bar to recommend. Let me first by saying it's a whole VIBE. This is the kind of place you go for a craft cocktail in a cozy and casual-upscale atmosphere on a weekday night -and I only say this because I have yet to come here on a Friday or Saturday night. I'm here catching up with a friend who's visiting from SF, so I gotta show him the best of LA. It did NOT disappoint.  Lovely lovely interior. I love the cushion booth seating areas, the plants hanging from the ceiling, the hidden back patio past the bathrooms, and the actual bar is elegant and stunning. You can't go wrong taking photos.  Service was outstanding. Our bartender Alejandro (who designed the drink menu) was so nice and made us feel at home. When he left, the other bartender was just as nice and attentive. Such a huge plus to have great service!  Cocktail drinks exceeded my expectations. I ordered two drinks. The first one was "Club Aqua," which is gin based and it comes with a pretty flower. It's not too sweet, but rather balanced with a unique combination of flavors. I never would have thought Yuzu and Hibiscus would be so tasty. YUM. I enjoyed every single sip. The second one is "The Beer" - and this one was so refreshing and tropical because of the rum, kiwi and passion fruit flavors. You barely taste the alcohol, but you know it's there. I'm obsessed! I must come back here again and try everything! I'm giving this bar 5 stars because I have absolutely nothing negative to say. It's great for small groups of 2 to 4, or a romantic date kinda vibe.
google avatar

Tiya V.

Yelp
If I could give zero stars I would. DO NOT GO HERE IF YOU WANT TO BE RACIALLY PROFILED. It was disgusting what my boyfriend experienced at the hands of the bartender last night. We sat there for 15 minutes with no greeting or taking of our order when there was a handful of people sitting with drinks at the bar. We were the only ones at the bar waiting for him to take our order when he blatantly ignored my boyfriend while he pleasantly and instantly greeted customers who just entered the bar after us (you know what color skin they were). Will never be going here again. Basic midcentury modern designed bar... typical of a non LA native establishment gentrifying the LA culture and city.

Yelp
I was taking an evening stroll in the neighborhood and noticed something new in the spot where Café Birdie used to be, so I popped in to check it out. The dimly lit ambience emits a warm & welcoming vibe. If you're looking for a romantic date spot. This is it. It's also a great place to hang out with friends or just chill on your own, which is what I did. Same owner different - different concept. With Café Birdie the emphasis was on food. However, The Arroyo Club focuses on delivering the ultimate craft cocktail experience in a lounge style setting. The background music is relaxing and the bartenders are personable and friendly. The food menu is simple. A Burger, Impossible Burger, Grilled Cheese, Fries, & tots. What you're here for are the exquisite cocktails (or mocktails) and the ambience. I arrived during happy hour. The fancy cocktails are not part of the happy hour specials, but margaritas are and that was what I was in the mood for. I love a good craft margarita and this one was perfect. It was nicely balanced and very tasty. Austin, the bartender, was an absolute doll. I'll be honest, I really wasn't a fan of Café Birdie, but The Arroyo Club is definitely my jam!
google avatar

Daryl D.

Yelp
One of the newest bars in the neighborhood. What a cool spot to hang out at. Is it open seating inside and there's a small back area too. You order at the bar. They have food you can order via online and pick up at the kitchen window. I stayed for a couple of drinks and I had the 'Arak And A Hard Place' which has a touch of pistachio. A little strong from what I usually have, but still good. I also had the 'Club Aqua' which is another strong drink (for my taste) and rimmed with Tajin. The drinks and the place is great. I'd love to come back again.
google avatar

Lia K.

Yelp
Cool new spot with a great ambiance! My boyfriend and I got a couple of drinks and food. I got the Club Aqua and he got an Old Fashioned. We also got a Patty Melt and the tater tots with ranch! The drinks weren't terrible but I think they were a little over complicated. The Club Aqua had too many notes going on that didn't quite complement each other and it ended up tasting overly sweet and syrupy. Next time I would skip on the cocktails and just stick to their beer or wine. The food was pretty good! You get a pretty large portion for the price. The tater tots were nice and crispy, not mushy at all! Overall I would definitely go again and recommend checking it out, I just think their cocktails were a little overpriced for what they were.
google avatar

Lily A.

Yelp
Love it here, I just wish it was open a little later. The food is surprisingly great and all the speciality cocktails are phenomenal and creative. It's cute inside but I always prefer to go to the outdoor patio between here and good housekeeping.
google avatar

Alvi R.

Yelp
Delicious mixed drinks (truly unique) and beautiful mid century modern decor. It's like you walked into another era.
google avatar

Milena H.

Yelp
This is a gorgeous space, with 2 back patios, 2 indoor bars, and lounge seating. The food menu is very limited. I ordered the Impossible burger and didn't take a photo of it but it was sad looking. Unfortunately, they do not carry tomatoes. I had a tomato-less burger. The chef shared that the kitchen is small and run by 1 person so they limit the ingredients they carry. Very minimalist. The mocktail menu looked exciting but unfortunately my mocktail was mostly ice. I had 2-3 sips and it was gone. Surprised, I asked if that was normal and the bartender said yes, unfortunately mocktails hold smaller amounts and are served in shorter glasses, compared to most bars. I appreciated the honesty and they poured in soda water to make me feel better but this is an important detail to share with y'all. Just know if you want just a few sips, get the mocktail. The cocktails seemed to be served at a standard amount. All in all, I would come back only for the vibes. Summary: Ambience 9 Drinks 4 Food 4

Yelp
Cute vibe in here. Dark bar with lots of seating and food options. Big public parking lot in the back

Yelp
Music is great, the food was really good and the drinks were very very good. Bartenders is cool, staff is friendly and the ambiance is great all around. Definitely check it out if you're in the area.

Yelp
SUCH a cute bar! Love the ambiance and music. Friendly staff and bartenders. The drinks are great. There are booths and chairs inside as well as outside seating that also connects to another bar in the back. I didn't get to try the food but will next time!

Yelp
Love love this spots thee ambience is what sold me... the colors are everything... The drinks are delicious. Bartenders are all very nice and friendly.

Yelp
I was visiting the area and I stumbled in this classy bar on a random Wednesday night. This bar is perfect for meeting up with small group of friends or for an after drinks date night. The Arroyo club was a nice and quiet bar where I didn't have yell to have a conversation. The drinks here were top notch. I had the Tio Mio and that was one of the best bourbon old fashion style drinks I've had in a long time. It was nice and smooth with no burn. It was also perfectly balanced. This drink was equal to the drinks I had in New York. Alejandro was our bar tender for the first half of evening and he was super friendly. He made me feel right at home. After he left, Grace took care of us for the remainder of our stay and she was also amazing! I'm giving this spot 5 stars because there is nothing bad about this place and my experience was great. I might just become a regular. I am definitely coming back for the Tio Mio after a long day of work.
google avatar

Andrew C.

Yelp
Not for me, the cocktail I ordered was undrinkable. It tastes and smells like super bitter chinese medicine. The tator tots were super salty. Overall, a very bad experience.

David W.

Yelp
NO SERVICE DRINKS ARE $$$$ expensive, 2 drinks 60$ wtf Food is subpar, all self serve. They have zero customer service. Bar food was over salted, seasoned, plastic serving sets. No where to bus/trash food. No one will buss your table you will sit with your plates and cups the entire time. Drinks can only be purchased at the bar, NO SERVICE!!! Would never go back
google avatar

Alex I.

Yelp
Super cool new cocktail bar in highland park. Unique cocktails. Burger station in the back (v good). Great service and atmosphere. Will be back.

Eee L.

Yelp
Recently came for a date and it's such a sexy vibe + the drinks are delicious with grear service from all of the bartenders.

Levi S.

Yelp
Definitely a go too. Ambiance is great, drinks are great, definitely chill vibes. Really did it.
google avatar

Amanda L.

Yelp
Very very slow service. Drinks were good, I liked the Rio Verde, but man, slowest bartenders ever. Seats are super uncomfortable, just like they were when this was cafe birdie

Martinez M.

Yelp
Rude bartender, yelled at me for taking a video of my drink. I don't go spend my money to be verbally abused by a bartender. If you don't want videos taken don't be a bartender be a server instead. I wonder if they yell at old white men too?

Claudio K.

Yelp
Could be a cool spot, has potential, but needs to work on service and tact. Walked by with our dog, asked if dogs are allowed, was told they were. We pick a corner and sit down, order drinks. Dog is chillin, hasn't made a peep. Halfway through, one of the guys comes over unapologetically tells us we need to move outside to their Covid era outside patio on a chilly evening. Not really the vibe we were going for. Would've picked one of the many other spots if we knew from the start. Not what we were expecting from a " neighborhood bar". Started on a high and ended up leaving disappointed. Bummer.

cristina s.

Yelp
Service and ambiance is excellent! We highly recommend this place while you're in LA. They open at 5 pm though. I wished they'd open earlier!!
