The Bagel Deli Review - East Hampden - Denver - The Infatuation

"The Bagel Deli is a deli in the same way St. Peter’s Basilica is a church. It is an institution, infused with memories and traditions passed down through generations. You can feel it in the tables of regulars who’ve been meeting here for decades, see it in the family photos—plus the requisite diner picture of Guy Fieri—on the walls, and taste it in Bubbie’s blintzes. While the strip mall setting might seem kind of ho-hum, the personality is inside, where the chatter is as consistent as the latkes. Save the super thick sandwiches for lunch and dinner and instead head over early for the lox and eggs and challah French toast stuffed with cream cheese. Ironically, the bagels aren’t anything to write home about, but definitely grab some chocolate babkas to go." - Allyson Reedy

Five Places Worth Trying This Weekend in Denver - Eater Denver

"This family-owned Jewish deli has quick pick-up counter service and booth seating. No frills, but traditional preparations lend themselves to items such as the chopped liver, chicken matzo ball soup, and stacked sandwiches spotlighting brisket, pastrami, and corned beef." - Gigi Sukin

Google
We were missing the Jewish Deli back home so we saw this deli on social media and decided to give it a try. It was super crowded but we only waited 15 minutes for a table. The service was friendly and attentive. The matzo ball soup was good. I was expecting a Coney Island style knish but got something completely different. It was tasty. The matzo brie left a lot to be desired.

Google
This place is so GOOD! I am big fan of sandwiches and these guys deliver. If I lived closer, I am pretty sure I would eat there 5 days a week. Yummy!

Google
Best bagels 🥯 in Colorado! They serve Vienna beef! Definitely make this a stop even if you're only visiting Colorado. Been coming here for years consistently great!

Google
Great deli. The pastrami on marble New York style was absolutely delicious. Everything was made the way you would want it from a outstanding deli. We will definitely be back.

Google
A great old style deli that is paired with a dinner style restaurant. Lots of prepared foods for purchase. I had the biggest and best Ruben sandwich for lunch.

Google
If you love Bagels, and if you love Eggs Benedict.... this place has managed to be completely ingenious and combined the 2 dishes with their 'Bagel-Dicts'. A perfect Benedict with the right consistency symbiotically blending with a savory smooth hollandaise sauce is always a hit or miss at restaurants. At this place was definitely a HIT! PS - This local mom and pop place is really popular in the city, so if you do plan to come her at any time, please use the Google maps to make a reservation to avoid a 15-45min wait time.

Google
Customer oriented deli in a strip mall. There's a fairly extensive menu including a lot of good breakfast options. The blintzes with sour cream and cherries were very good. The benedict variants sound interesting; I wish that getting them on challah were an option. The coffee was good. Service is excellent. They were very friendly and efficient. The dining area is comfortable and has many pictures on the walls. They do have password protected Wi-Fi; the password is posted on the wall to the side of the room. Although the official open time is 8 am, the door says 7ish because they do accommodate customers who show up a little early. There is plenty of parking.

Google
What a gem! And apparently everyone thinks so because the place was packed. Great food and excellent service. Loved our wisecracking server! Shout out to the staff for serving the gentleman who looked a little down on his luck - the servers treated him with great respect.

Yelp
Great food and service. As good as any deli I've been to in New York. Never had a bad meal.
google avatar

Christy P.

Yelp
Not bad, but I did expect it to be better. I had the everything bagel toasted, and it was just an okay bagel. The jalapeño cheddar cream cheese was great though. I had a latke a la carte, and it was very flavorful. Could have been a little crispier. I tried some of the breakfast burrito with chicken, and was surprised that I actually liked it more than my meal. I really liked our server a lot! Overall the place had a really great vibe. Even though I wasn't blown away, I'd probably come back.

Yelp
We love this place and stop in anytime we make a trip to Denver. Nice hole in the wall with cozy food. Love the reuben eggs plate and will almost always order it. The service is quick and friendly, be prepared to waitlist on weekends as it can get busy!

Yelp
Half the restaurant is sit down and the other half is a little market that offers sandwiches to go. Great, classic Jewish deli.

Yelp
Great deli & dining room. Everything cooked to perfection & chefs honor all requests. Be certain to check out the fresh challah (Fridays) and sweet treats.

Yelp
Solid 4-4.5 stars. Will definitely return. I'm a NY Jew, who grew up with the best Jewish delis on Long Island and NYC. This place compares- but I wasn't a fan of their coleslaw or the Russian dressing. My favorite spot is pastrami and friends on Long Island! Anyway- the matzo ball soup was good, nice dense matzo balls with shredded chicken and carrots- classic. The ambiance felt homey, but it was super crowded. I brought my stroller, and they were accommodating and put it in the back. It was kinda fun to sit so close to others and over hear conversations. I've been homesick and craving my fav soup and sandwich, and this satisfies the craving. It's not NY, it's Colorado- but it works and I'm super glad to have this here. The everything bagel tasted a little dull (for a NYer) of course if you're comparing to Einstein bagels there is no comparison! All in all this place is great and probably amazing if you didn't grow up in NY/Jewish. I just want slightly better bagels, coleslaw and Russian- but again- hey im here in Colorado and im happy enough just that this place exists!! I will 100% be back.

Yelp
This place was recommended by a customer who grew up in New York and it is excellent. The tongue and Pastrami sandwich was fabulous. We had four people there. Everyone got something different and all were excellent. Smells great when you walk in. Definitely will be back. They even have real egg creams
google avatar

Tracet T.

Yelp
Best bagels ever! We got pastrami sandwiches too, so good, as was the corned beef. Sandwiches are big, one is a good size for 2 people
google avatar

Yelp
Loved this place!! This is hands down one of the best Jewish delis that you can go to. You may have to go to New York to find a comparable spot. I really liked the Ruben, which could easily be shared by two people but I ate it all and gained 3 pounds, lol!! Everyone I came with loved their food, and we will be back from time to time for sure. Expect a wait, this place is popular. It has a little market on one side and a diner area on the other side. This isn't a ambiance spot, it looks like the place has been around for over 30 years & probably has! If you like good sandwiches or Jewish food look no further. Happy eating.

Yelp
Talk about a massive menu, jeez! I was already having difficulty choosing between the front of the menu, only to learn there was an entire back page with more lunch-type items. All the classics you'd find at any Jewish deli. This place was definitely busy and buzzing on Saturday morning - we had to wait about 20 minutes for a table for 2. The front host was very friendly. We meandered in the deli area and browsed the items there - lots of interesting bagel and sandwich choices, in addition to a few freezers full of take-home items like kugel. (I couldn't stop making Seinfeld references either, though I'm always making Seinfeld references, so no more unusual than any other day). We were finally seated at a booth near the window - thankfully they have those vinyl type curtains so it blocks out the sun that would otherwise very obviously be in your eyes. We finally decided on our lunch/brunch - my husband got the pastrami reuben and I ordered a tuna on marble rye, along with some coffee and juice. We were both a little underwhelmed by the food, surprisingly. My tuna sandwich was alright, but it had egg in it (is that typical?) and it was a little on the sweet side (not sure what would make it sweet?) It wasn't as good as a diner tuna sandwich. Not terrible, I've just had better. I got the potato salad on the side, which was also far too sweet and I didn't eat it. My husband said his reuben was also 'just ok' - the meat didn't seem to have much seasoning/punch. Just tasted more like generic meat. The fries were a great crispy texture though. As I'm on the hunt for bagel places, I may come back to see how their bagels compare to New York (I'm hopeful, but you never know) as I am realllll picky about my NY bagels.

Yelp
It was insanely busy but the dining area and bathrooms were still very clean. The servers were very friendly, not attentive though and did mess up our order but were very quick to fix it. The food was amazing! The pancakes were not overly sweet and the perfect texture. I really liked the greek eggs. My only negative might be that the beef bakon was a little too crunchy. And I love crunchy bacon but this was nearly burnt. Overall would recommend and will be back.

Yelp
Always great deli fare! The kosher items, the traditional matzo ball soup, everything is just great!
google avatar

Yelp
Some things are just a Denver institution and should be left alone. This is one of those spots that feels like it's been around forever and deserves our respect for the neighborhood staple that it is. Is it Michelin star worthy, maybe not, but is it comforting and delicious, yes. What they do best is corned beef and pastrami sandwiches, and their eggs bagel-dict is a fun take on eggs Benny. We enjoyed the chicken noodle with matzo ball, and they have great fries. The crispy batter coated fries that all the great diners serve. Come here. Enjoy the atmosphere of a crowded deli counter and packed tables because I have a feeling this place will be around for many more years to come.

Yelp
No one does it better!!!!!! The family that runs this place really knows what they are doing. I've been coining here since I was a kid and every time I step in the door I feel like I am home. Do yourself a favor! GO HERE. A LOT!!!!!!!

Elissa A.

Yelp
Love love love this place. Better than the corned beef sandwiches I had in my hometown Chicago, and that is saying a lot.
google avatar

Matt S.

Yelp
CRAZY GOOD!!! To go sandwiches and food are super fast and delicious. They have some pre-made stuff in the coolers to grab quick. Sandwiches are very generous with the portions. Staff was very helpful and answered all of my random questions. Lots of grab and go deli options, meats, breads, ect. Highly recommend this place!
google avatar

Yelp
Delicious authentic deli with healthy portions of food with great customer service and satisfaction

Yelp
A true Denver staple! Love stopping here for breakfast on the weekends. If there is a wait, it is worth it. My go-to is the meat & eats, classic and simple. Last time we went, my husband ordered the French toast and it was probably the most delicious French toast I've ever had. Other food I've had in the past are the knishes, deli sandwiches, rugelach...you really can't go wrong. Service is quick - the waits for tables are never TOO long because of this - and friendly. The interior looks like your typical diner but has family photos adorning the walls. Oh the way out, grab some food at the deli counter to take home!
google avatar

Jessica H.

Yelp
Visited for breakfast (2nd sit down visit) ordered eggs and meats. Eggs were okay. Bagel was dry and stale even though toasted. Potatoes were good and hot. The "beef bake " was horrendously salty and inedible. Should offer turkey sausage or bacon for healthier options. The grilled deli meats sides are gross. No other deli serves them for a reason. I don't recommend this place for breakfast. First visit was for lunch and their corned beef sandwiches and matzah ball soup were pretty good and comparable to NY style.

Yelp
Hands down the best Jewish deli in Denver! I've been coming here for about 5 years and I don't see myself ever stopping. Reminds me of the delis back in New York and it makes me very nostalgic to be in there eating, in a very good way. Seeing family pictures on the walls and accomplishments is great to see.The sandwiches are HUGE! I always get the classic Rueben on rye (or marble rye) with both Meats! 10/10 consistently delicious. The matzo ball soup is also very good and is a good portion as well. I find myself thinking about their chocolate babka which is as well divine. I've been very lucky the times I've gone if I've ever had to wait, the wait hasn't been bad. The staff there is fast and friendly and very helpful with any questions. I'm always looking forward to visiting again and again.

Yelp
A good sandwich, true.....I ordered a Pastrami on Rye and that's what I received! Again, it was good- and sizeable and came with a pickle spear and a side...but I guess I was expecting more...The Rye was good, but not blow your socks off, great. I didn't realize til I got out to my car that it didn't have cheese. And the order taker didn't ask me if I wanted any on it. Personally, Swiss goes great with my Pastrami sandwich, but not this time...also, no mustard, and no offer of it when he was taking my order. True, the Pastrami was awesome, but not how I'm used to. It was Tasty and warm, but again, not how I prepare mine, as I typically fry mine in a skillet, then pile it on the Swiss and Spicy mustard coated Rye. On a related note, I spend a fair amount of time in SLC. If you find yourself there, take the time to eat at Zieglers Deli near Sugarhouse/ MillCreek. Their Freshly baked Rye Bread, sandwiches and sides will blow your socks off!!
google avatar

J F.

Yelp
I love this place! I've been 4 or 5 times now, and whenever I'm in Denver I eat here if I can. The pastrami is some of the best I've ever had. The beef sausage and bacon is damn delicious! I've yet to have a meal there that wasn't excellent. Staff has always been friendly and attentive and the kitchen is pretty fast. Bring cash!
google avatar

Yelp
Bagel deli is our favorite local restaurant! We eat here at least 3 to 4 times a month. Everyone is always kind and the food is always good!

Sydney T.

Yelp
Amazing service, food is even better. Every time I'm in Colorado I make an effort to come here. Their bagels are phenomenal! I highly recommend getting the chocolate babka from the deli.

Sam L.

Yelp
Everything here is wonderful: an oasis in the delicatessen desert! We ate tons of delicious food here and will go back whenever we are in Denver!
google avatar

Andrea S.

Yelp
The Bagel Deli never disappoints! I've only been a few times and I've never ate in but I will eat in one of these days! This go around I popped in right before closing to get a few items to take to my friends Hanukah dinner. Since I'm not Jewish, I wasn't quite sure what to get so the awesome staff member helped me out. He suggested I be the sweets person so I grabbed some baklava to bring to the hubs and take some rugelach and babka to my friends for dinner. My friend said the babka was the best she'd ever had... so win!
google avatar

Linda C.

Yelp
Always great food and service. The meals are huge and taste great. Breakfast or lunch it can't be beat. A community gem.
google avatar

Yelp
My husband's family has been going to The Bagel Deli for Sunday breakfast for years, and there's a very good reason why. It's kinda like the Cheers bar where everybody knows your name. Very comfortable and welcoming atmosphere. A lot of the servers have been working there for years, although today we had a fairly new server, Sarah. She's been there about six months and is sweet as can be. Hopefully she will be there for a long time as well. Their breakfast items are everything you would want from a Jewish Style deli. My staple is the Very Veggie Eggs with a Latke on the side instead of their potatoes (although the potatoes are good too). The Latke is always nice and crisp, just like my grandmother used to make, and served with the traditional sour cream and applesauce. We also split an order of the homemade blintzes, which are irresistable. The deli has a counter where you can order sandwiches, salads, meats and goodies to go. There is also a freezer with some yummy frozen homemade goods. There is a good reason why this denver institution has been in business for 53 years. The are locally owned but just as good as any deli in NYC! The only problem is that the deli is only open 8am - 4 pm with the restaurant closing at 3 pm. I really wish they were open for dinner!
google avatar

Chris S.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite Jewish Delis in the US. The food and service are fantastic and I try to stop in every time I come through Denver. The sandwiches are well balanced and the meats and toppings tasty. I am docking a star because the prices are pretty nuts. I paid around $130 for soup and sandwiches four people and I think that's too much. I also was frustrated to have to take our food to a park because the business hours on their web page were not complete and did not let us know that the dining room closed very early.
google avatar

Jesse B.

Yelp
What great Jewish deli food should be. Homemade everything and they do breakfast, brunch and lunch so well. A go to for me on a very consistent basis. Excellent service and always busy (2x featured on Diners Drive Ins & Dives!)

Yelp
I love, love, LOVE Bagel Deli! Ex and I used to take the kids here once a month or so, and sometimes we'd go by ourselves for lunch while they were in school. The food is WONDERFUL! I'm a native New Yorker, and Bagel Deli GETS IT. Service is always excellent, smiling and friendly. The portions are GIGANTIC. I usually get the turkey Reuben, and I have NEVER finished more than half. The French fries are crispy and delicious. The potato latkes are YUM. I discovered today that BF has snuck over here quite a few times without me, because he loves their French toast. Too funny. Today he had pancakes. Enormous pancakes. I told him that when my kids were little, there was a family rule about not eating anything bigger than your head. He couldn't finish all the pancakes and his sandwich, haha. I love the ambiance. It's always crowded. Servers are always bustling about. Tables are bused efficiently. There are family pictures all over the wall, and today we sat in a booth that had a plaque that said, "Dan and Neil sit here. Or not." Lol! It really seems like a little corner of New York City, right off Hampden. Simply a wonderful place for breakfast, brunch, or lunch. You will NEVER leave Bagel Deli hungry! Good, simple food, perfectly made and generously provided. The quality of their deli meats is absolutely superb. Most, if not all, are produced in-house, IIRC.
google avatar

Yelp
We called the Bagel Deli on very short notice to provide meat trays and dessert for after a recent funeral (called on Monday morning for Tuesday afternoon). The short notice was no problem. The trays were beautifully done and the food was plentiful. Everything was delivered and waiting for the family when they returned from the funeral service. The entire family appreciated the food very much. We also go to the restaurant from time to time and find the food to be just what deli food is supposed to be - comforting, delicious and plentiful. The Bagel Deli is definitely our "go to" deli in Denver!
google avatar

Elsie J.

Yelp
Ok so I know 2 stars is pretty extreme and a hot take for this highly rated spot but hear me out and know this is just from my perspective. I have been to this place a ton and my dad loves it (it's like his favorite place in the world) but for me, it just isn't my favorite. The service is fabulous and everyone in there is super on it. It feels like you are stepping into a NYC deli with 1/2 being to go and 1/2 being a sit down restaurant. The restaurant side is adorable and resembles a traditional diner. The staff is incredible and super quick with getting stuff out. However, I personally feel the bagels fall super flat and being that it's in the name, it's an important aspect to get right. The bagels do not have the bounce and chew that traditional NYC bagels have and instead, feel rather dry to me - honestly more like bread. I've probably tried the bagels like 6-7 times and still just always leave disappointed and wanting more. Other than the bagels, the spread and matzah ball soups are always a hit. And while I don't eat meat, I've heard the sandwiches are incredible but if you are looking for a bagel, I would choose a different spot. Also, it doesn't open till 8am which seems a little late for a breakfast spot.
google avatar

Kurt N.

Yelp
Delicious deli menu. Huge portions. Great service. Very casual. Enjoy it every time we go. It's usually busy so join the waitlist online.
google avatar

Chris S.

Yelp
Definitely a 'hole in the wall' location that you'd never find by accident, but we're sure glad a friend took us there for lunch! It's an older, diner type place with plenty of seating in the dining area and a full deli on your left. Having grown up in NYC, a Jewish deli is always a welcome sight, not to mention they make bagels! It's a large, but simple menu, featuring lots of great Jewish foods to sample and enjoy. The Rueben is a must along with bagel sandwiches. Service was quick and steady, with the food coming out in minutes. Definitely great tasting food, just a bit pricey, but certainly shareable. Worth the time and a visit.

Yelp
I just lost my beloved Nana a few days ago, she was a regular here (Barbara Weiner Duran) and the day she passed my husband packed us in the car and we immediately drove down from Broomfield for lunch. She and I would come to The Bagel Deli for Matzah Ball Soup and Pastrami on Rye. She would always have hers open faced with a side of potato salad. We would share the Matzah Ball soup and just be happy to be spending time together. I always adored our time together here and I cherished every moment we would spend with enjoying a meal together. During Covid I made sure to have it delivered to her because we weren't able to go in together. This last year of her life was extremely tough for her and unfortunately she and I never got the chance to come back together. The moment I found out she passed away I longed to be sitting back in their dining room with her. I just wanted to be comforted by some matzah ball soup and my nana. By chance we were able to sit in the booth that she and I first sat at together many years ago. This time I had my daughter, her great granddaughter in tow, it was a somber time, but also a very comforting time to be reliving good memories. Our family of 3 enjoyed the same amazing food my nana and I would have had together and I felt as though she were right there in the booth with us. I am so beyond grateful that I was able to run to this restaurant and be comforted by a familiar place, enjoying a meal that briefly for a moment healed my broken heart.

Yelp
Zero flavor breakfast bagel. The meat is over cooked... hardly any cheese. I don't get the hype at all. The bagel seems ok on its own, but won't be having breakfast here again. Waste of calories. Service was slow, but friendly.
google avatar

Dorothy H.

Yelp
I absolutely love this deli/restaurant..I feel like I'm in New York..Now not being a New Yorker and those of you that are may beg to differ.. But I have had nothing but great food, meats, sandwiches, breakfast and lunch! It's been all delicious and the people that work there are amazing! Please give this spot a shot! I will say Weekends are crazy..but some of you love the excitement of a very busy place! I hope you enjoy
google avatar

Sheyenne B.

Yelp
Very disappointed. Ordered this for my birthday, got it delivered and opened up this sad $30 platter for TWO people. Two people but one bagel? Old wilted red onion, chunky old tomato, the salt bagel had little to no salt and the bagel was rock hard. I'm so confused, this place used to be good. Shocked - so I'd recommend not ordering online and eating there so you can look in their eyes when they try and serve you this monstrosity.
google avatar

Letha B.

Yelp
The best pastrami sandwich in Denver! The homemade cream cheese and bagel is so delicious! A must try
google avatar

Art M.

Yelp
First time visit for lunch. Wife loved the pastrami sandwich. They have almost no gluten free so I had a soup which was so disgusting. Do not go here for gluten free. Took some potato latkes and blintzes home. Tried one each and threw them away. This place is packed with long waits outside and I cannot figure out why. Won't be back.

Craig M.

Yelp
Really close to a New York kosher deli. Good food, typical New York waitstaff brings back memories. Lots of great take-home at the deli counter. Not quite what "bubbie" used to make, but pretty good for Colorado. Where else could you get tongue sandwiches?
google avatar

Erin L.

Yelp
Always a good option when in the area. So many choices. Love the cold borscht! Although the last few times I have been in it feels like they are getting lazy. My potato latkes were cold and burnt this go around.

Stacey S.

Yelp
The Bagel Deli is the best Jewish deli in SE Denver and is owned and operated by a family with deep roots in Denver. As usual, we were seated at a table promptly, even though it was still very busy at 1:15 in the afternoon. The three of us started with an appetizer of chopped liver, which was great and reminiscent of my growing up. One of my friends had a Reuben and the other had a corned beef sandwich. I had a pastrami sandwich. All the sandwiches were stacked high and the corned beef and pastrami were very lean. The service was very good and the staff continuously checked in with us. All this and reasonable prices. In the past 50 years a lot of Jewish delis have opened in Denver, however, none of them can compete with the Bagel Deli!!!
google avatar

John M.

Yelp
If you haven't been to the restaurant, this is a must do. They have staff there that have been there for over 2030 years. The ladies are incredible. The atmosphere is just good old time, Good food restaurant. Plenty of coffee and selection. I also has a fantastic bakery counter if you choose to bring something home for later! Of the best in Denver.

Michael K.

Yelp
Exactly what you want from a great Jewish deli. Everything I've had going back almost 40 years has been delicious.
google avatar

Olivia K.

Yelp
The service was great, only a short wait and the server was very nice and attentive. The food came out quickly and was delicious! It was everything you would want from a Jewish deli. This is a perfect spot!

Yelp
Genuine. Great. Bakery and Deli. Like my Bubbe enjoyed. I stop here on every single trip to Denver. No plastic in the takeout packaging, online ordering is easy-peasy, and every single item is a great example of its kind.
