Contemporary food & fine wine served around a 24-seat marble bar

"The Modern is a fancy restaurant inside of MoMA, and it’s separated into two different rooms. The first area has a long bar, some lounge-y tables, and a semi-casual dining area. Walk-ins are accepted for this part of the restaurant, but you can also make a reservation. Stop by with your parents the next time you find yourselves staring at squiggles of paint on canvas in Midtown, and have drinks with some bar food that’s better than any bar food you’ve had." - bryan kim
"Adjacent to the fine-dining room, the Bar Room lets you get by for substantially less with a two-course prix fixe for $45 or three courses for $60 (à la carte is available); no reservations are required, so you can stroll in on a Sunday around noon, eat in about an hour, and still have plenty of time for the museum. Standout dishes include cured Arctic char with apricots and smoked eggplant, and lobster and artichoke ravioli." - Robert Sietsema
"I found a wonderful bargain in the Bar Room at the Modern, the more casual outpost of chef Thomas Allan’s Michelin-starred restaurant attached to MoMA; the prix-fixe deal (two courses for $45, three for $60) offers items you might see in the main dining room — think cured Arctic char with apricots and smoked eggplant, or artichoke and lobster ravioli — while the prix-fixe main dining room itself is not part of the Restaurant Week deals." - Robert Sietsema

We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - Team Infatuation
"The Bar Room at The Modern, helmed by Chef Thomas Allan, should be on a list of Manhattan’s best-kept secrets. The terrace overlooks the MoMA’s sculpture garden, and a mural alongside the far wall continues the effect of dappled light filtering through the trees. If you’re not up for a full meal, The Bar Room has a full menu of snacks to go with a Bianco Negroni, from olives marinated in coriander, to caviar hot dogs, and oysters with a kumquat kosho mignonette." - Lee Musho
