The Barn - Review - Half Moon Bay - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"There’s a time and a place for getting dressed up and eating dainty food, but sometimes you need to go to town on a hot dog and drink a cold beer at a picnic table. The Barn on the side of Highway 1 is for the latter. Expect burgers piled high with white cheddar, crispy onion rings, and buttermilk ranch dressing, as well as thoughtful vegetarian options like a mushroom-farro veggie burger and the vegan BBQ jackfruit sandwich." - Gabi Moskowitz

The Best Restaurants in Half Moon Bay | Eater SF

"This roadside stop converted an old barn into a restaurant for burgers and beers. It’s super casual, with an outdoor space filled with picnic tables, and a tented outdoor dining space. They source produce from local farms and sling grass-fed burgers, as well as a griddled hot dog that’s fully loaded, plus fried mac and cheese nuggets with buttermilk dressing for dunking." - Dianne de Guzman

It was our first time going to The Barn located right off 1 Freeway in Half Moon Bay and everything about it was above and beyond! We went as soon as they opened on a Wednesday morning, and they were already swarming with people. Despite parties filling in, it did not take very long for us to get our food. The food tasted great and they provided extra sauces like ketchup, mustard and hot sauces. The vibe was very nice, we went on a nice warm day so it the experience made it great. Everything about the seating area was very cozy, felt like having a picnic. It was also very clean! On top of all that, the staff was friendly with us and attentive. Will be going again once we make another trip to Half Moon Bay. We don't live near so unfortunately we can't have it as often as we'd like to, but I think it makes the place more special. Highly recommend!

I had a great visit to The Barn in Half Moon Bay. The relaxed farm-style setting made it the perfect spot to unwind outdoors. I tried the “What Cluck” chicken sandwich which was crispy and flavorful, and the “Where’s the Beef” grilled cheese was rich and satisfying. The BLT was fresh and hearty, and the mango lemonade was the ideal refreshing drink. I finished it off with a slice of Lolliberry pie that was sweet and tangy. A memorable meal in a charming spot.

The fries were some of the worst I ever had, cold, super stale texture, tastes like double fried or old oil, and overly salted. The chocolate shake tasted like there was little chocolate and ice cream, lots of milk. Really want to like this place because the menu sounds amazing, but sub par food and service in my opinion. Hope they turn it around, would try one or two more times before giving up as they have nice outdoor seating, but quality is just not matching their prices. 7 dollars for the worst fries ever, although portion is large.

Google
LOVED the food here! Everything was so flavorful and fresh (contrary to previous reviews) — I had the ‘What the Cluck’ chicken sandwich which was the staff recommendation and it was fantastic + my brother had the ‘Hot Farmer’ burger and he said it was one of the best (if not the best) he has ever had. The chili was also great and fries were simple but good. The prices are expensive, but typical for this area. Wait times can also get quite long depending on the time you come, but the food is honestly worth it. There is also loads of seating (all outdoors), and it’s a great place for any size parties or children. Would recommend — the perfect lunch spot!

The entire crew and ambience was amazing! Really enjoyed sitting right next to the barn and then also in the garden by the fire pit once a little bit of a chill came on with the fog! Beautiful surroundings and incredible firm to table cuisine.

Google
Burgers were delicious! Mac and cheese bites were giant and good, not greasy at all with the perfect amount of crispy breading but need more cheese or flavor.

Google
The food was absolutely delicious, I got a burger and a mint chocolate chip shake. It was probably the best burger I’ve ever had. The service was alright, there were no waiters so you’d have to get it yourself, and to me that’s my preferred way to order food. The atmosphere was wonderful, it really fit the name and was a great experience. I give it a five out of five, the food was perfect, the service was alright, and the atmosphere was great. HIGHLY RECOMMEND

Google
Super cute place but the peach and burrata salad was not it. Way too much dressing and the toppings were not evenly distributed. Wouldn’t recommend this menu item but the burger was a lot better.

Yelp
First time in HMB. I chose the Barn burger which was fantastic!! Right amount of food and very tasty. We also got some fries which were very crispy and the kids enjoyed them. They also carry a few gluten free options and vegetarian as well! And we loved the outdoor seating area with a fire pit, lawn games and music to set a mood. Definitely recommend this place!

Yelp
Food: great. I always get the pretender, which is a grain based burger, with jalapeños. My kiddo gets the Mac attack, milkshakes and lemonades and fries all around. Ambiance: charming, especially the garden. The wait: do not come here if you're in a hurry, this is not fast food. The bathroom situation: DIRE This is the one thing that makes me not wanna come here . There's something like 20 tables and only one bathroom and I don't mean a bathroom with multiple stalls, just one bathroom with one toilet. If you're desperate and there's a long line then you are S--- outta luck, pun intended. I had to wait so long. I would literally have been overjoyed to use a porta potty, but there was none.

Yelp
10/10 seating and ambiance! Food: the barn burger and fries were a bit pricey and tasted like any other burger in my opinion. Still super good! Service: the workers were kind! Ambiance: outdoor seating on top, with a garden next door you can also sit in. We sat under the canopy after a hot day at the beach and loved it!

Yelp
What a great Mother's Day treat riding along the coast back from a trip to the Bay Area and stumbling upon The Barn. After my husband found this spot on Yelp, I was pleasantly surprised it wasn't just a rest stop restaurant..but so much more. The Barn is such a cool destination restaurant. Great service and people who are super passionate about what they do and what they're cookin' up, a beautiful backyard vibe with outdoor games, fun music, and just the place you want to be. Lotsa families, doggies, and groups were out, although we were able to snag a picnic table by the grass area for the kiddo to play. Menu-wise, such an awesome variety of comfort food done right. Big burgers, fried chicken sandwiches, juicy pulled pork, fresh salads, fried mac n cheese squares, homemade pies, shakes..the list goes on! I feel like we were so hungry, our group really went for it (love the full paper towel roll at the table, much needed!) Also to mention beer/wine. I haven't had a piece of homemade pie (and homemade whip cream) in so long, so thank you The Barn for giving mama exactly what she wanted..and a little something for everyone! Fair pricing, parking available (but when crowded, ya may need to find parking in the neighborhood), and def worth the visit. Farm to table done so, so right!

Yelp
This place is really cute with outdoor seating, twinkle lights, fire pits, and a place to play cornhole. They also have blankets for people to use when it gets chilly. The food, however, is bland. I got a cheeseburger which was okay. The fries were bland though. My friend got the mac and cheese balls and there was no seasoning on them at all. I saw other people getting salads and they looked good, so I'd suggest maybe trying one of those. The vibes are cool here but the food was mid at best.

Yelp
Burgers and Beers near the sea, came here for lunch around 12:05 and there was a long line, by the time we left around 1:30 the line was much shorter. It's in an old barn with a small amount of seating near the ordering and pickup area and a back space near the parking lot that is much bigger. If you do eat near the entrance the line of hungry people will be watching you eat. There is one bathroom and it's also located right where everyone stands in line. Barn Burger: 1/4-pound Pomponio Ranch grass-fed beef, served with cheese, lettuce, homemade Barn pickles, tomatoes, caramelized onions on Wild Bill's rustic burger bun with ketchup, mayo and mustard. The beef was so good and I would repeat this. Also not that big which is appreciated. What the Cluck: 1/4-pound organic chicken breast marinated in lemon oregano buttermilk goodness, prepared crispy-crusted or grilled, served on Acme ciabatta with goat cheese, arugula, tomatoes and barn-made buttermilk dressing. Another repeat, the greens gave it a nice fresh and light taste and was not heavy. Fries: Hand cut Kennebec potato fries, the perfect french fry, totally finished split with 3 people, 2 adults and one teenager.

Yelp
I've been twice now and both times were a great experience! The Old School Pork (sweet) with crispy onions added is my favorite! Delicious, juicy and so flavorful. I also love the fries they're super salty, which I enjoy. The outdoor eating area is kept super clean with spots in the shade or the sun. The service was really fast even on a busy day, our food was ready less than 10 minutes after ordering. Also dog friendly and only a minute from Miramar Beach.

Yelp
We stumbled upon The Barn while looking for a place to grab lunch in Half Moon Bay. The exterior was adorable - basically just a big rustic barn with "Barnalicious" written across the front, and two separate outdoor seating areas. It was pretty busy on a Saturday afternoon, but the line to order moved quickly. I got the What the Cluck sandwich and a Barnold Palmer, and my friend chose the Salad Special and a cup of Tomato Bisque Soup. We also got the Mac Attack appetizer to share. We were handed our drinks and a buzzer, and we snagged a picnic table in the meantime. We wanted to sit in the garden area, but unfortunately it was full. The seating area closer to the barn was also nice though, and had both sunny and shady options. Our Barnold Palmers were tasty and refreshing, and our food didn't take too long to be ready. The Mac Attack appetizer was easily our favorite item - best fried mac & cheese bites of my life! We loved the salty exterior and soft texture inside. The What the Cluck sandwich was also great. I chose to get it with grilled chicken, which was thankfully well-seasoned and not dry, but I'm sure it's even better with fried chicken. My friend's salad was good too, but she wasn't as crazy about the Tomato Bisque Soup. The cup was a very small portion size, and it had a surprising kick to it (which I didn't mind). Overall, The Barn was perfect for lunch - great food, awesome vibes!

Yelp
I love that I can have a meal with my dog. The seating area including the garden is very cute, clean and convenient from the parking lot. I really like that they have plants around the property. I love the flower arrangements on the tables with fresh flowers and rustic pitchers/vase. Now the food, We had the grilled What the Cluck, the Farmer Burger and fries. What the Cluck - the chicken was dry and sandwich was over dressed. It was nothing special; not enough to make me comeback. The burger patty was juicy and seasoned well, onion rings were thin and somewhat crisp and the bacon, its bacon. The fries were fresh and crisp. Enough to make me comeback? Not anytime soon. The food is very overpriced but it's expected, we're in the Bay Area. We spent over $60 for a burger, chicken sandwich, fries and Diet Coke. I like the fact that I saw the kitchen making my food from scratch, the sitting area was great, flower arrangements were fresh and the burger was good.

Yelp
This is a lovely outdoor spot to get lunch in Half Moon Bay. There is parking available and counter ordering within. The heaters were not working and it was pretty cold. Service was very friendly. It is a crowded spot, and you should expect to wait for your food that is prepared fresh. The food is delicious, but it gets cold fast outside.

Yelp
Stopped by The Barn when my sister and I were in Half Moon Bay and I cannot recommend this place enough. The food was soooo good. I had the pulled pork sandwich and my sister had the chicken sandwich. We both enjoyed our food. I loved the setup of the restaurant. Plenty of seating and a cute outdoor area. Although the parking is limited, service is quick so the parking lot clears out fairly quickly. Can't wait to go back again.

Yelp
Took a visit to The Barn a few weekends ago after seeing them featured on KQED's "Check Please!" Menu options were great, plenty of outdoor seating available with patio heaters and blankets if you're chilly. I loved the garden area and overall atmosphere. We ordered the Mac Attack mac & cheese bites, the Barn Burger, The Hot Farmer, a milkshake, Diet Coke and fries. There were various beverages available, including a few beer and wine options. There's also veggie and vegan food options. I'm giving The Barn 4/5 stars because I upgraded my burger (The Hot Farmer) with the spicy option and they forgot to include this upgrade on my burger. I was looking forward to the upgrade which was listed as barn-pickled jalapeños and sriracha aioli. I didn't mention it since our milkshake was also forgotten and we had to ask for it. My favorite part of the meal were the mac and cheese bites. They had a lot of flavor and a little kick to them which I enjoyed. Burgers were good but I'd try out the chicken sandwiches next time. I'd stop by here again if I had a large group after a hike or beach day in Half Moon Bay. It's really close to my favorite - Roosevelt beach.

Yelp
Stopped by on the weekend - I can't remember the exact name of every single item we ordered but we got the barn dog, Mac attack, hot farmer burger, fries and chili in a cup. Everything was okay but my favorite item by far was the burger. My husband also enjoyed Mac attack but I think I didn't love it because of personal preference. There was nothing special about the barn dog and the chili felt like it lacked a bit of depth in flavor. Not a bad meal at all but for the most part everything except for the burger for me was just okay. If I were to come by again, I'd only get the burger and maybe the fries.

Yelp
Just the cutest little spot. We were visiting friends in Half Moon Bay and they recommended meeting at The Barn! We had an easy drive over to this adorable little barn that had open seating and a fun play area for the littles to run around in that was fully equipped with a giant jenga tower. We were pleasantly surprised at the decor, each table had a beautiful bouquet of fresh picked flowers. It was the perfect setting for a sunny weekday lunch. Also, every table was fully stocked with a big roll of paper towels, perfect to wipe the sticky fingers during our meal. Kids enjoyed thier gourmet grilled cheese and had a great time picking out thier milkshake flavor. So much variety! The settled on vanilla and cookies and cream, while I got an affogato shake. This place was kid and mom approved!

Yelp
Just on food alone, I would give this place 5 stars. I got the hot farmer burger and fries. It is a bit pricey at $16 for just the burger without fries, but nonetheless it is a fantastic juicy and tasty burger, with tons of sauce and flavors, the way I like it. The fries are also great, perfectly crisp and fluffy on the inside. The one thing is we went for dinner at around 6pm and of the about 10 tables, they had 2 working heat lamps. When we asked if there was anything that could be done about it, they shrugged and said they were out of propane and there was nothing they could do. Considering this restaurant has no indoor seating available, and even on the hottest day when the sun starts to set in half moon bay it becomes freezing, this was a bit ridiculous. We sat outside freezing while eating, which kind of took away from our enjoyment of the food. Other than that it is a good option when craving a burger, but be prepared to be totally freezing and service not really doing much to help in that department.

Yelp
I love the chicken sandwich and the fries, the burger & caesar salad was alright. Service was good and the outdoor seating was amazing (they have blankets for when you get cold).

Yelp
Visited the barn 3/23 around 2:30 pm. The parking is pretty limited but there is a second parking lot next to it for additional parking. The line was out the door but moved pretty quickly. We got a couple things to try- Strawberry lemonade which tasted more like agua Fresca compared to lemonade. It was good but a little too bitter for my liking. The Mac attack (which was the biggest reason why we picked this spot) was honestly the best. While yes it was crispy, the mac and cheese lacked flavor and seasoning and wasn't cheesy at all- discussing it we agreed that the ratio of cheese to noodles was probably not similar. The chicken sand which was ok but nothing to brag about. Burger was almost like a house made burger, good but also nothing major. This place seems pretty popular but I think the vibes and ambiance gives it a lot more attention than the food. The garden seemed pretty nice and a good place to hang out in.
google avatar

Yelp
Some of the best food I've had in a while. I wasn't sure what to expect from a place serving food out of a barn, but I was pleasantly surprised. The chicken sandwich was incredible, and so was the burger. And don't even get me started on the fried mac n cheese bites. The only downside is that ALL of their seating is outside. I went on a cold day, and wasn't prepared for the weather. Definitely bring a jacket if you're unsure if you'll be warm enough to eat outside. That said, the outdoor dining spaces are pretty nice. This place is definitely worth going out of your way for.

Yelp
Such a cute place to stop and grab lunch on a nice day in Half Moon Bay - they have a ton of outdoor seating in a cute garden area w/ an outdoor bar as well. My key highlights of our lunch were definitely the chilli dog & the mac n cheese bites. Highly recommend both!

Yelp
This is a great eatery in beautiful half moon bay. There is only outdoor seating, but there is lots and lots of it. The outdoor area is huge with yard games and blankets if need be. I ordered the imposter without cheese, which was a delicious veggie burger made from Whole Foods. I added pickled beats which was a tasty and unique addition. The bread was soft and delicious and the burger was perfect! It's a little pricey here, but it's worth it for a treat or a casual yet special occasion!

Yelp
Located a 5 min walk from the quality in. Next door to a Chinese restaurant. I knocked it down a star because I thought it was a tad expensive. We got a burger, fried, salad, beer for $51.96. The price is probably comparable to other places in the area it being a resort town and all. Fries were perfectly crispy. They are thin fries. You get a small bag loaded with fries. Plenty for two to share. Burger is just ok. It's piled high with fried onions. I wish the patty was thicker to match the amount of onions that is on the burger. It needed to be juicier and a thicker paddy and less onions. Summer Salad-fresh green mix, peaches( under ripe, not sweet), nuts, burra cheese, dressed. It was a good big salad. Beer was good to the last drop. Ambiance was nice. Sit in the beer garden. It's an enclosed area with heaters and lights the space is wonderful. There is a second area to sit right outside the food service area. It's like sitting in the parking lot. Pass on this area. Overall I'd return. It was walking distance from our hotel.

Yelp
I have the best salad I've ever had in my life at this place. It was a seasonal salad back in November of 2024 and ever since then I've ordered a similar salad at every single restaurant I've been to that offers similar salads and none of them have compared. That salad has a special place in my heart and you will see me in November of 2025 hoping that salad will be served again. Literally it was a spiritual experience yall. I'm sure there other salads are great but THAT SALAD. Nothing I've ever ate since has compared.

Yelp
Love this place ! Food is delicious . It was beautiful outside and we Sat in the Garden. This is new since I had been to the Barn. I had the burger and my friend had a salad with chicken. Both were delicious!

Yelp
We went on a Saturday during lunch time and we found parking quickly & there was about a 10-15 min line to order your food. There was plenty of seating and loved how they added the garden space to accommodate more people! We ordered a variety of food: Half Caesar Salad (pretty standard), Mac Attack (THE BEST ITEM ON THEIR MENU IMO!), a Burger, a Grilled Cheese, & Barnold Palmers. Everything was delicious, however, my friend ordered a side of fries and received a separate scanner for them and never got them by the time we all finished eating (she did get a refund tho). I will be back & get the What the Cluck sandwich! I've had it before and it was a phenomenal combo of ingredients!

Yelp
Love this place! The barn is super cute and makes for cool photo. It's in Half Moon Bay but far enough from the beach to not have heavy crowds. It's a chill place for a meal on a warmer day because they only have outdoor seating. They also have a cute little beer garden area! Dog friendly :-) It's a farm to table restaurant and you can immediately taste the freshness in all their food. They have great vegetarian options and I always love a place that has all day breakfast options. I ordered the pretender and added fried onions (my favorite) and beets. It was a hefty burger but omg sooo tasty. The patty is made from mushrooms and farro so it's very filling and hearty. The lemon arugula balanced out all the flavors. Yum. My friend and I shared the mac attack and they're not over hyped! If you are a mac and cheese lover you must order these. They were crispy and gooey, great cheesy flavor. Definitely recommend when you're in the area!

Yelp
On a little getaway trip with our pup we decided to dine at The Barn as they offer all outdoor seating by their restaurant and have an additional "garden patio" area with additional seating. You first walk inside to order and then take your buzzer to the tables and seat yourself. They have blankets to cover the benches in case it's cold and outdoor heaters that can be turned on. We ordered the Barn Burger (classic beef burger), the What the Cluck (fried chicken sandwich - can also be served grilled if you prefer), a side of fries, and the Mac Attack (fried macaroni). The Barn Burger is your classic burger - which was thought was pretty standard. Ingredients tasted fresh and the bun kept everything together. The only downside was that the beef patty was quite small and not to the shape of the bun. At the end we found ourselves with bun + toppings, but no more beef. The What the Cluck is served on ciabatta bread and the arugula is a nice touch. Chicken was fried well and was tender inside. The portion is sizeable as well. However, if you're not a goat cheese fan, you may want to sub out the cheese as it was quite strong and overpowered the sandwich quite a bit. The Mac Attack is a nice side addition. Fried perfectly to a crunchy crisp and velvety cheesy goodness on the inside. It's served with ranch and four pieces is plenty for two people! We were surprised by the portion of a side of fries. You can definitely share between two people as they give plenty. Self serve water outside and you bus your own table when you're done! Overall, love the outdoor dining area and that it is dog friendly. Would return with our pup when in Half Moon Bay!

Yelp
Works Like a Barn Operating since 2015, The Barn operates under a simple mission to bring the best of the coast to hungry diners using farm-to-table sourcing from local farms around CA. The Good: *Dog-friendly outdoor dining *Parking along the PCH, but they also have their own private lot. *Family-friendly w/ a children's play area *Fast-casual order at the counter, get a buzzer, and wait for it to you know, buzz, and stuff. *Small but mighty local brews on-tap that heavily features Hop Dogma (HMB) & Santa Rosa's Russian River Brewing (Pliny!!). They also have locally-fermented grapes, as well. *Mac Attack is hyped up, but well-deserving of the hype; crispy, creamy, and full of cheesy flavor. These are a must-order. *While we're on sides, their French fries were also superlative. Fresh, hot, and salty just the way they should be and with a little bit of skin still attached. *Old School Pork (pulled pork sammich) was really good and had proper proportions. My only complaint is they claimed it was "spicy," but honestly, they need to kick it up a notch to even register. The Meh: *The burger was put together well, and all the ingredients were fresh, but the proportions were all off imo, especially with the meat, which kinda got lost with all the veg. I'd recommend getting a 2nd patty for the burger to up the ratio for a more perfect burger. *Despite being on the PCH, there's no ocean views here, which can be good, as it's never crazy busy. The Ugly: *All their dining is outdoors, so maybe not a great spot on those cold, rainy days. Conclusion: Chill spot to grab a brew and enjoy some tasty locally-sourced comfort foods.

Yelp
Decided to try this place out after a morning hike in Half Moon Bay. We went right at opening and were the first customers there on a Friday morning! I believe they only serve breakfast on Fridays and Saturdays. The place itself is super cute and looks like such a nice place to grab food with friends and family when visiting. They also have a grass area for people to play cornhole and giant jenga! Plenty of tables for seating as well. My friend and I ordered the avocado toast with bacon and a side of scrambled eggs, breakfast burrito, and a side of fries. The avocado toast was on a perfectly toasted piece of sourdough and was topped with arugula, tomatoes, and pickled onions. I added bacon which they chopped into small pieces and put on top. The pickled onions were such a nice touch and I really enjoyed them! The breakfast burrito was also amazing! It has eggs, potatoes, avocado, and chorizo. Super filling as well. The fries were so good and tasted so fresh! Similar to in n out fries (for reference) since they're made so fresh! Would definitely come back and take more friends and family here!

Yelp
A neat, cozy place with fast service and amazing food. We were in midst of our hike on half moon bay coastal trail when we stopped by here. The olalieberry shake and avocado toast were amazing. My husband also got the chicken sandwich which was really good too. Would love to come back!

Yelp
This a great place to grab a burger in HMB! Great space for sitting outside when the weather is nice. On the foodstuff: the cheese burger was fantastic while the mac attack failed to impress. Pro-tip for ordering: if the line is really long and you don't want to wait - you can order a pick up from DoorDash and pick it up at the counter once it's ready. Tested this out and it wasn't any longer than in person ordering.
google avatar

Yelp
Awesome. This place has been on our radar but we do not venture into HMB often, and usually went to pasta Moon for lunch when they used to be open during the week. But this trip to look at plants and my never ending quest for the APEX burger had us in a position to check it out. Wow, we really like this place. The establishment is quirky and fun. If you are heading on NB on US 1 and miss the turn ay carumba its a pain to get turned around but we managed. The food was fantastic. The burger was good enough to get a spot in my Top 5 rankings The Hot Farmer: What a great burger. I made it hot by electing for the pickled jalapenos and sriracha aioli. Even with this the heat was there but not enough to overwhelm. The patty was well seasoned and tasty. The cheddar cheese had the right hit of richness and had that hint of sour that helped balance the richness. The onion strings were freshly fired and added a sweet crunch to each bite. The arugula was lightly dressed and the sourness of the buttermilk dressing helped again with the balance. The bun shockingly was up to the task. What The Cluck: a perfectly fired chicken patty which in and of itself was quite tasty. Add to that the fixings and the goats cheese which helped again cut the rightness. It was a fantastic chicken sando. Caesar Salad: greens were fresh and it was cheesy as advertised. It a personal choice but to my palate it needed more acid and amp up the anchovies taste. But I get they have to appeal to the "love me some bland" crowd as well. Draft Beer: served in a cold glass and fresh. Not much more to ask for here. This is such and fun and fantastic place and we will be back

Yelp
This was a GREAT burger stop for us! I got the jalapeño burger while my husband got the regular barn burger. Both great, but we agreed mine was better. The fries were pretty good and I also really liked their cookies! They have a great (relatively) fenced in eating area so kids can run around and play - great ambiance with outdoor picnic vibes. Service was relatively quick as well. If we are ever back in this area we are for sure coming again!

Yelp
Reading the description for the chicken sandwich sounded super tasty and delicious. Nope! Super bland and super chewy chicken. For $18 it should be very juicy and tasty. We wont be returning.
google avatar

Krista R.

Yelp
Was so excited to come here because the menu looks so good. Was actually disappointed in the flavors. The Mac and cheese attack balls were prob the best thing I had but that's kinda a reaching. The hot chicken sounded like it would be so good and spicy with all those flavors and it was over powered by the pickled jalapeños, and the spicy aioli had a funky taste to it I just couldn't put my finger on it. I came here over the summer and which there was more shaded areas in the larger table area. It's an order up at the bar and they give you a buzzer when it's ready.

So yum! Delicious food, great outdoor seating (and they left blankets out because it was a tad chilly!), and friendly people. A great stop when heading to Half Moon Bay or more south, perfect for friends, family, or a date!

Yelp
Went on a sister day and ended up coming here for lunch! I love how simple the menu was they had all the classic favorites for lunch like burgers, sandwiches, salads, and a few breakfast items. It was well priced and delicious! I loved the garden and the outdoor seating was clean and comfortable. I appreciated the blankets on the benches as well. It made us feel comfortable and it made us feel taken care of at their restaurant. The girl who took our order was wonderful and the order/pickup process was easy! Made for a great stop!

Yelp
This is my family's go to when we're in the area. This is definitely not your typical burger joint and is a bit pricey but I will always come back! Plenty of seating in their patio even when it's very busy but some of it is uncovered which isn't great when the sun is out. Ambiance is great. As for the food, the quality of ingredients is amazing and fresh. I think their fries could use some work and their fried Mac and cheese balls are pretty bland (definitely needs salt and pepper).

Yelp
Amazing local restaurant with burgers, sides, and milkshakes! We especially loved the fried mac and cheese bites, fries, and chili. The chili was well executed with a good amount of ground beef, beans and cheese, scallions, and sour cream as toppings. Having the fries to accompany the chili was a plus on a cold, rainy day! The hot farmer burger had crispy fried onions which gave it a nice texture. Service was quick and there was plenty of seating outdoors. Don't forget to try the affogato milkshake. It's by far one of the best milkshakes I've had!

Yelp
Update: since writing this review, an employee of this restaurant has privately messaged me to call me all sorts of names and threaten to beat me up, all because I said they make a shitty milkshake and that no one smiles. These are the people your money and tips support. My original review had two stars, but clearly that had dropped to one. ------------------- So so SOOO disappointed. The decor and vibe of the exterior seem like the restaurant will be so hip and fun. However, as soon as you are (NOT) greeted by the staff, the experience goes downhill fast. The female cashier did not smile one time during our conversation as we placed our order. We asked her simple questions, to which she half-answered, half-shrugged off both. I wanted to know if their Cookie milk shake was cookies and cream or maybe Biscoff, and she said "Uh, I don't really know what kind of cookies they use but it's a cookie." Did not offer to ask the chefs, and does not seem like she cared to find out to do her job well. Then we asked if she would recommend the french fries over their mac and cheese. She said "Um, it's pretty popular." She meant the mac and cheese, but did not offer her preference. She then brought us my husband's beer while I was standing outside the restroom waiting for him. She didn't say thing, just looked at me while holding his beer. I was holding our infant, but asked her to place the beer on the shelf next to me. She did, but said no words and walked away. The rest of the staff would not smile while making eye contact with us either, only when chatting amongst themselves. The entire restaurant needs a lesson on friendly customer service. I understand that HMB is a beach town and there are only so many options if you want to stay close to the beach, but it doesn't mean we as customers have to come to your restaurant if everyone is unfriendly. In terms of food, the only "good" item was the fried mac and cheese. It was salted well but there was nothing revolutionary about the flavor. It just tasted like noodles, cheese, and a good breading. I would inhale these if I were 22 and tipsy, but I would not go out of my way to return here just for fried mac and cheese. The burger was meh. Just a burger. The meat lacked salt and the bun was cold. Seriously, we paid $14 for a burger smaller than my palm, and on a bun that was just pulled out of a bag? We are in the age of social media-hyped food. Come on, that is just lazy. Last thing, I am appalled by all who praised their milkshakes. They cost $9 (which is more than most large containers of ice cream at the grocery store), and come in the small 12oz mason jars. We ordered the chocolate milkshake and it was literally just cold, frothed chocolate milk. No ice cream, not even ice. I have never been so disappointed in a milkshake in my entire life. You know who makes great milkshakes for under $5? Jack in the Box, McDonalds', even IHOP. The milkshakes here just shameful. We will not return here.

Yelp
Look the space and vibe of the area. Super cute benches to sit outside. Ordered drinks and coffee. Coffee took a while but was good and fresh when it came out. Everyone was nice and welcoming. Gets pretty busy

Yelp
We went to this burger joint after the rave reviews it received on Check Please Bay Area. We had the veggie burger, mac and cheese bites, and milkshakes. The burger was ok, but not particularly flavorful. The mac and cheese get a similar review, and the container you get the ranch dressing in has an opening that is narrower than the cube of food, which just seems a little shortsighted. The milkshakes were perfectly fine, but also pretty standard. There is one single stall restroom, so going to the bathroom involves a long wait. We spent $60 on a pretty average meal (also had a beer, but not my first choice as a number of the selections were out). We shared the mac and cheese, so it was a fairly light size portion. So I would say that this place is really not as wonderful as the reviewers on Check Please made out. And you are definitely paying for convenience to Half Moon Bay and other beauty spots. But you get to sit next to a busy road with constant traffic noise, so not exactly tranquil!

Yelp
The spot and concept is awesome. Love that they use a local farm for the beef. Maybe we came on a day where the kitchen was backed up but we waited a crazy amount of time for our food. Good quality but nothing to rave about as far as burgers go. My tomato bisque was fantastic and had a spicy kick to it which I liked. Wanted to love this place because of the laid back feel and family friendliness to it. Will have to give it another shot.

Yelp
Drove there an hour away for the bbq jackfruit sandwich and their famous milk shakes. Tip: call ahead for availability. They had neither. Had the mushroom burger. It's aiiight. Could have found a better one locally. My finance had their what the cluck. Under seasoned, uneven toasted bread, breading in the chicken was falling apart, overpowering goat cheese dressing. Consider asking for it on the side for you to make the choice of how much to add. Sorry to say. Just won't be going back. Better tasting food in the East Bay. Have a pickle to address with "Bay Area check please" show next.

Yelp
Greetings from Half Moon Bay, California. This is Walt from Walt's Adventures and today I ventured to The Barn. The Barn, no doubt, had origins as an actual barn but has since been transformed into an eatery. They serve breakfast and lunch and have outdoor seating only but had covered and heated options. They have limited parking. We ordered and waited an acceptable amount of time for the restaurant was at maximum capacity. We ordered their fried Mac and cheese squares. These had me wanting more for their taste were exceptional. Their chicken sandwiches were both light but filled with flavor and their BBQ Pork sandwich was the best I have experienced. The milkshake that was consumed had us turning in an empty glass before we were done and even the straw fries, having the appearance of frozen beginnings, were not the case. Only freshly made fries could have given us the satisfaction that our fries had. The Barn is a gem worth traveling to and worth waiting for because like the restaurant's humble beginnings, those within their walls have dedicated themselves to excellence.

Yelp
Outstanding hole in the wall place for food. Great food with lots of variety. Outdoor seating, but plentiful and well taken care of (i.e. cleaned up). Good beer and wine selection. Food made to order. Will be back on my next trip to HMB for sure.
