The Barn Hockey Bar

Super fun sports bar hangout! This is the place before or after a Blackhawk’s game. Even though it was super packed, service was great and attentive. Food was great - we had the cheese curds, wings, pizza and fries.

Nice venue. Lots of tvs. Friendly staff. Fast service. Great for watching games. We ordered chicken wings, Caesar salads, poutine, & a grilled cheese sandwich. The food was tasty and was served within 10 mins.

The Hockey Barn Bar is a great pregame stop. Great food and great service. It is now on the short list of places to stop before a Blackhawks game.

So I will preface this with I was a visiting fan for a Blackhawks game, but I had to check out the barn. I say this because I didn’t feel like I was treated any differently by the staff or the people at the bar because I was an out of town fan (the Blackhawks also handed our asses to us 6-2, but that’s a whole other story). It was an absolute madhouse when we arrived, despite that, the staff quickly found us a table. The service was kinda slow, and our server walked by us a bunch of times when we were ready to order, but it wasn’t because she was ignoring us, she was just super busy. When we did put our order in the food came very fast. Once the bar slowed down the service was better. My only real complaint was they had a qr code for the menu on the table, but they have a separate late night menu, so we couldn’t order what we really wanted. I would have liked to have been told that or have something on the table that says that. Other than that truly minor thing, we had a great experience here, and if you are a hockey fan, you need to go here if you are in town.

WAS excited to try this place before the blackhawks game. Get some food and drinks and hyped for the game. SUPER DISAPPOINTED. We got sat in a corner not near any of the TVs or people all alone in a boring cold corner while there was PLENTY of other tables near the tvs and other patrons. Didn’t get acknowledged for a long time. Then when the sever was finally done flirting (also while watching many employees stand around on their phones) and came to get our order, My finance just ordered a beer, I decided to wait because I could already tell I was ready to leave. My fiance drank his beer we decided to leave since it was NOT the kind of atmosphere they advertise, what we were looking for - a fun hockey bar environment. She brings us the Toast to pay and says there’s a 3% service charge AND 20% tip already included. So now it makes sense why everyone can just stand around on their phones and socialize because they don’t have to work for the tips. Insane. Horrible experience will never be back. Too bad too, we go to a lot of united center events woulda been a nice place to visit. We’ll continue to go to Billy goat instead - where we finished our evening and had a great time.

An absolute must visit for any hockey fan. Terrific staff with out of this world recommendations. We were visiting from out of town to watch our hockey team play the ‘Hawks. Locals were gracious, friendly and full of hockey lore. Thank you for the Chicago Handshake

My friend and I came to this establishment to watch the games, after the Blackhawks game. We noticed there were seats at the bar- so we decided to sit there. A man approaches us and asked if we wanted anything. We asked for waters, not sure if we wanted to order anything to eat and/or drink. Not much time passed and a female approached us, asking if we wanted a drink. Which we both declined, at the moment. Not too far long after that, a man approached us and told us we couldn’t sit at the bar if we were not going to order anything. This whole interaction was only 20 minutes. From the moment we stepped into the bar to the man asking us to leave the bar because we weren’t ordering anything. No one had stepped foot into the bar, after us. It wasn’t like it was busy. There was a good amount of people who I could tell have been there a while. There are no strict regulations requiring an order. My friend and I felt mistreated and unfairly targeted. So we decided to leave the premise. If you take longer than 20 minutes to order.. be careful, they might kick you out!

I really appreciate the owner of this establishment for finding a way to put the Lions game on for us and creating such a fun atmosphere for game days. The service is really friendly but pretty slow, I think we waited about 45 minutes for a burger and cheese curds even though there were about 3 groups in the bar. We’ve also struck out on the food a couple times (I do not recommend the wings or the cheese curds) but the burger was fantastic! I do wish they’d update their online menu when they don’t have items though because both times we went, they didn’t have our first (sometimes even our second and third) options stocked. Also be aware they add a 20% gratuity to the bill and then default another 20% when you pay online!

If you're looking for the perfect pregame spot before a Blackhawks or Bulls game, The Barn is it! I always thought there wasn't a great place nearby, but my friends recently introduced me to this gem, and I'm so glad they did. Located just a quick 5-10 minute walk from the United Center in a safe area, it's incredibly convenient. The place was packed when we got there, but we managed to snag a table. Pro tip: if you're going with a big group, aim to get there at least two hours before the game to secure a spot. Even with the crowd, the service was excellent--our food came out quickly, and drinks arrived just as fast. They have super affordable beer pitchers with a nice variety, and the apps were perfect for a pregame meal. Our group shared a few orders of chicken tenders and pretzel bites, and they hit the spot. The Barn is definitely my go-to pregame spot now, and I can't wait to head back before my next Hawks or Bulls game!

This used to be a restaurant called The Ogden and I preferred it then. Now it's an over the top hockey bar. Food is mediocre and so are the drinks. Service leaves a lot to be desired. I waited like 30 minutes on 6 wings. How in the hell does it take that long to make chicken? When I received them they were big, which I don't like. They're also expensive - 6 wing dings were $14.00. I don't like establishments that automatic charge me gratuity, especially on a one person bill and on top of that they also charge you a 3% surcharge, so I paid $35 for an appetizer of wings and a drink. Yeah, I'm good, too many other restaurant options. I will pass and I will wait for the establishment to change hands again because this isn't it.

This was probably our 10th visit. Came in for a quick bite to eat and was fairly busy! As always, the food was good. Settled on the turkey sandwich this time. We prefer to sit at the bar but it was full so we sat at a high top bar adjacent. We did seem to have a dedicated server and there is a unique table number at each table but they seem to not use it? Every time a food runner came out, poor kid had no clue where he should drop off at. This isn't the first time we've watched this happen. The bar service here is great, the table service has lots of room for improvement. Edited to say: every tab has gratuity added. This time we were told about it but that's not always the case. I get adding gratuity for large parties but not a fan of every check.

Fun place, especially before of after and event at United Center. New place but has a good vibe as well as staple drinks and food menu. Food was tasty and others in our group really liked the burger. Place was very full before and after a Blackhawks game. Being new, they are still figuring a few things out. I have no problem with automatic gratuity but they should have it written and verbally let folks know. Also, they don't really assign a server and many people were helping us out. Worked OK but I think long term dedicated servers works be better.

The wings are delishhhhh, homemade ranch and blue cheese, buffalo could be spicier. We got the captain supreme calzone too, perfect amount for two before the game. Def could've been more sausage in it though. Server and hosts were nice. It's loud and fun with LOTS of TVs! Had to get some MALÖRT of course.. oh and the Valet is $15!!! And you can leave your car for the whole blackhawks game! Ten min walk from United!!! EDIT: THE MALÖRT IS $12 A SHOT!! #crazy

First time here... Place is DOPE! Hockey world in one place and i was STOCKED! Now, not to be a party pooper but my server Niurka, decided to add gratuity of 20% to a check for 2 people. Not 6 or 7... but 2 PEOLPE and BANG!... gratuity added. I'm just going to say what a hell girl ?!?....WHY?!?! So lame to do that! You made $12.80 cause of your stupidity versus - maybe i was about to tip you $20,$30... Your loss and unprofessional service all the way.

Customer service is a joke! I booked a golf simulator and they called me 45 minutes before my time and left a voicemail to say they have a league that night and have to cancel. They don't leave a phone number or the girl who called didn't leave her name. I've called & emailed multiple times to get my money refunded with no response. Booking is done through Tock and they said the merchant has to refund my money. Every time I call it's automated and you never get a live person. Be aware of the place!!!

They should have a part of the menu that says, not fried....you can taste the oil... Simply gross

Went here hoping to enjoy a hockey game and some good food. The hockey was good, but the food wasn't. Very disappointed since I had high hopes. Go somewhere else, trust me.

First time checking out this place. If you are a hockey fan or Blackhawks fan, you will love this place. Hockey memorabilia everywhere. TVs everywhere. My only downer was they don't carry ESPN plus which shows many college hockey games so only NHL games on the TV. Love the cocktail names. Decent beer selection especially with the Canadian beer but could use some more local craft beer. Solid bar food menu. Easy walk to the UC. Will definitely be back.

Solid bar and restaurant close to the United Center. I had gone a number of times when this spot was still The Ogden and not much had changed other than hockey branding. They've updated the space a bit and is still a great place to grab a drink & food before a game. Menu is big as is the draft list of beers. I'll be back!

The service was terrible and the food was not good. The food was cold and it showed up late. I should have gone to Madison.

Atrocious service and an atmosphere that screams neglect. The dishes were overpriced and tasted like they came straight from Jewels hot bar, yet the staff acted as if we should feel privileged to be there. The homeless person outside didn't even want my leftovers. Avoid this place unless you're looking to ruin your evening.

Heard about this place on Instagram and decided to visit on a recent trip to Chicago. The place looked really nice, very clean. A LOT of hockey memorabilia around. I had a Blackhawks IPA from Goose Island and it was very good. The wings didn't disappoint. I thought the server was a little rude and inattentive (I got there on a Tuesday just after 4pm when they opened). I also didn't like that they add a gratuity to your check. As much as I enjoyed my visit, I'm not completely sure I would go out of my way to visit again.

Best hockey bar in the world!!! I've been to most NHL rinks and there is nothing as good as The Barn. My friends and I went around 5 before a 630 game and it had a lot of great energy to it, even with the Blackhawks at the bottom of the standings. Food and drink are both great, everything about the menu is well thought out and also great service. I'm looking forward to coming back everytime I'm in Chicago, especially for pre/post game visits to the UC. There is so much detail and nuance of all the memorabilia, I need to visit on a quiet day to appreciate it all.

As the only hockey bar in the city of Chicago (which makes no sense to me), my spouse and I were excited to visit The Barn for the first time to watch a Stanley Cup Final game. It ended up being one of the most laughably unenjoyable bar experiences we've ever had (and we spend a LOT of time in Chicago bars). My spouse and I made a reservation a week in advance. We arrived right at our arrival time and the first thing we notice is the bar is INSANELY hot. Like uncomfortably warm across the board. But anyway... We show up and both of us are wearing hockey jerseys of the teams playing in the Cup Final. A couple in front of us (who were walk-ins) quickly got a table for two. When we got to the host stand and told them we had a reservation, we were told they didn't have space for us (which makes no sense, because we literally had a reservation booked, but okay?). The only available table for two was in a corner with zero view of any TV -- despite us being seemingly the only fans there for the hockey game (at the "hockey bar"). The host tells me we can sit there and then when the concert crowd dies down in "30ish minutes," he will move us. Well, we go to the table and we just don't get served. And I mean, we NEVER got served -- no one even came to clean the table before we sat! No single waiter or waitress ever approached us to take a drink order once. And even as the place emptied out, the host never returned to seat us at a different table with view of the hockey game we visited this hockey bar(?!) to watch. The people at the table next to us gave us a couple of their beers during our wait as they commiserated about the shockingly awful service they were ALSO experiencing. But after an hour of literally ZERO service or accommodation -- even as the bar emptied out -- we just left. What a hilariously terrible experience. As a former service industry professional -- I usually get it. I know how hard it is to run a bar/restaurant. Everyone has their bad days. But this was just beyond comprehension. Never going back. Anyone else got another hockey bar in Chicago??

Here's the thing, this location has turned over quite a bit. However, this time it seems different. If you haven't been, it is set up as one of the best, if not THE best places to watch sports in the entire city. There are TV galore here. The bar alone probably seats 25. All the booths have their own TVs. The TVs are NOT so dam high they kill your neck, they are placed perfectly! The sound system is second to none and they have the volume on for Bears and Hawks of course. They have added a back area where they are putting in golf simulators, YES golf simulators. They have Valet for $15 during Hawks games so use it! The chicken winks check all the boxes. I hope they can establish a regular crowd here even when the UC doesn't have something going on. I see this place capturing some college football fans. As long as it is staffed right and the kitchen can keep up there is no reason why this shouldn't be THE place for college ball in Saturday or any sports for that matter. I hope they do well here. Support this place. I met one of the owners Spence, a real cool guy with ties to the Hawks and coaches Hockey. I got my fingers crossed for this place.

Staff goes above and beyond to make sure everyone is taken care of, food is great, and the environment is great!

We went here before a Bulls game and it was awesome. There were TVs in our booth which we really enjoyed. The cocktails and pizza were AMAZING. It was a very quick, easy walk to the United Center. We enjoyed it so much, we ended up going back after the game, as did many people. I will likely come here before any event at the United Center. I would recommend making a reservation though.

Went to The Barn before a Friday night Blackhawks game. It was extremely crowded, but our server Niurka was amazing! Love the atmosphere and the smash burgers and fries were delicious. There were some issues with the kitchen that I hope they can work out. We ordered wings for an appetizer, but we never got them when two people's burgers were delivered. We canceled the wings at that point. The third person at our table ordered the Biscuit Blocking Turkey Sandwich. It was delivered about 10 minutes after the burgers. The turkey is served cold, so don't really understand why it came so much later than the burgers. It was quite a disappointment. The focaccia was not very good, and it was supposed to have pesto mayo, but it came with a spicy mayo. If it wasn't so busy, we would have sent it back. It was very disappointing and they probably should pull it from the menu. Because of the exciting atmosphere and our great server, we will go back again.

I brought in a group of 20-30 people and we have a blast!! Reservations were solid we had 2-3 really large tables before a hawks game. TVs everywhere and so much hockey memorabilia!! It was heaven. Drink list is solid. The nachos being made in a can is a favorite of mine and they were great. Everyone loved their food. Thank you Barn!

Not impressed! My friend ordered the cheese fries and was told they weren't serving them on the late night menu. It's a freakin' cup of nacho cheese! Wings were good but drowning in sauce. My wife ordered an Amaretto and Coke and was told they didn't have Amaretto. WHAT!?!? Where it really went sideways was with my Black and Tan. They don't use Harp or even Bass (or even a passable ale for that matter), but rather a Belgian style wheat beer with citrus and coriander. This does not work well with Guinness and is NOT a Black and Tan. Not to mention that the pour was incredibly bad and had nearly completely blended the two beers. They were at least kind enough to take it off our bill.

Great place to watch games & have great food & the atmosphere is wonderful. The service is not the best as they like to lounge around and not be as tentative but they have gratuity included in the bill so they aren't worried about tips.

The food is amazing and service is great. They were able to squeeze us in before the rush. Would recommend having a reservation we didn't realize you need them. But they were super nice and were able to squeeze us in and we had a great time!

Incredible menu, awesome atmosphere, great service, and hands down the best bar near the United Center. This area has desperately needed a bar like this for a long time. Highly recommend.

We asked what the wait was when we got there and we were told 45 mins. It became painfully obvious that wasn't going to happen, tables with their tabs closed sitting on their tables that weren't being encouraged at all to give them up. Meanwhile the bartender didn't know how to make a Tito's Press that my gf ordered at the bar and they had the nerve to add 20% gratuity to the tab without any mention at all (I only noticed because thankfully the tip line on the credit card slip was labeled "Additional Gratuity"... adding automatic gratuity for parties under 6-8, especially when they're standing room customers not at a table, is complete bullcrap and shady.). I would not recommend this place, it's only redeeming value is its proximity to the United Center.

Whether you're a sports fan or not, this place is so much fun. Both the food and the cocktails were so yummy, and they have Labatte on draft!! Perfect place to go after any United Center event since it's only like a 7 minute walk. They also have valet which makes it really convenient to leave your car there and pick it up after the game. Staff is super friendly and the vibes were 10/10. Place has more TVs than you could imagine, even in the bathroom!

Amazing experience! Went for the first time ever after a hawks game with my friends and the attention that the entire staff was beyond amazing. If our server wasn't attentive other staff was. The manager Chris even came to check up on us. I love that it was a 7 min walk from the United Center. The security Berto was also attentive prior to leaving making sure we were not cold while waiting for our ride. I HIGHLY recommend coming here for. A good time. Drink and music was on point.

At first I really liked it. After being greeted at the door by a serious man in a black suit with a secret service wired ear piece, at 11am on a Sunday, we were seated in a booth with 3 40-inch TVs. In the booth. My whole being was enveloped in televisions. There were more televisions in the booth than people. Tons of hockey memorabilia everywhere. But the closer you look at the memorabilia the more you realize you're sitting in a Hockey Applebees. But whatever, that's not my gripe. The food isn't my gripe either. It was a nice selection of bar fare. They even offer things to eat for people who don't eat meat every meal of their life. I inhaled my Impossible burger and was working away on my fries when a floating server came by and asked me if I was done. I still had 4-5 fries left but felt like I had to say "Yes, I'm done" or else I would look like a pig/cheap ass. Then when the bill came, the original waitress, who was plenty nice, told me that 20% was already added to the bill. WTF? I would've given 20%, I always give 20%, even when the service is terrible. But it isn't even my choice anymore?? Why is the world doing this to me? Why is everything in the world like this now? And then they added a 3% surcharge due to the rising cost of bar supplies or some nonsense. This place just opened! And then the final ball kicker was the prices on the bill did not match the prices on the menu. Christ on a cracker.

First time yelp reviewer. My friends and I have frequented this bar many times after United Center events, but I will never return after this last visit. The bartender service was great, however, I have never been treated so rudely as we did by the table server last night. When we got to the bar there were a lot of empty tables. We ordered drinks at the bar, but then decided to sit down at one of the smaller tables. We didn't see any servers walking around and after 10/15-ish minutes we went to the bar to order cheese curds and more drinks. I even told the bartender that we were sat at a table. A waitress finally came to our table to ask if we needed anything. We explained that we just ordered things at the bar and were content for the moment. The waitress got upset and told us that we couldn't sit at the table unless we ordered from a server. Which we understood. There were still empty tables around us and we were going to order from the server going forward. However no one came back to us. The next time the waitress came to our table she had new patrons with her and she started clearing the table without our consent and told us to leave. I tried to ask for the manager to resolve what I am sure was a misunderstanding, but was told they were busy. We didn't want to fight and just left. My friends and I genuinely did not understand why we were treated like we did something wrong. I will not return to this bar or ever recommend it after this experience.

Great new addition to the United Center area. The atmosphere was fun, great sports related gear to check out, food was excellent and good drink options. The Maple Leaf was a favorite among the table. Been back a couple times and it'll be the place we go before and/or after a game or show down there. Also checked it out on a Sunday, tons of tv's for football and menu is good for kids, as well.

Great food. Great atmosphere, bar tenders and staff are really nice, e they are engaging, attentive, and make you feel at home.

If there was an option for a million stars this place would definitely get them! Me and my girlfriends came here after the hockey game tonight for the first time and the service was BEYOND our expectations. Our server was amazing. I don't know her name but she had long blonde hair. All servers were very attentive and did not disappoint. Chris, the manager, was AMAZING. He made sure we were taken care of and were having a good time. When we were waiting for our ride outside, the security Berto... not Alberto or Beto came out side to make sure we were okay since it was cold outside he offered for us to wait inside. We will DEFINITELY be coming back soon! Our new go to place for sure! Thank you for ending our sunday funday in the best way!

I'm not sure where these reviews are coming from but I wish I had the experience these other reviewers had. We had a very inattentive server - We never got her name because she didn't share it- we sat maybe five minutes before she asked for our drinks then gave us the wrong order. The time between her coming to our table to take our order, Check on us, and handle requests probably added to 20 minutes each. Some feedback for the restaurant/bar - If you're going to have nachos, have nachos; not some Taco Bell BS. Cheese was nonexistent and the plate it sat on was more like a pan and difficult to get the nachos off. The place was pretty empty so it boggles my mind that your server acted like she had somewhere to be or other tables to serve- she was prancing around at the bar chatting it up with coworkers. There was only one server I saw actually doing her job and she had several tables including a large family. For a place that's been open only a few weeks, I hope they make improvements. Auto-Gratuity btw shouldn't be a thing at a bar unless you're in fine-dining. That auto-gratuity gives the staff a sense of entitlement to not service the customers. Get rid of it. For what you pay in there you'll be better off in River North, Pilsen (bang for your buck), or Gold Coast.

This place is very cool and great location near the United Center. The service was not fantastic, as I felt like we did not have a dedicated waiter or waitress, but instead just needed to flag someone down each time we needed a drink or wanted to order food. No one ever came to check on us afterwards. The thing that made me the most upset, we only had 4 of us in our party. They charged an automatic 20% gratuity on everything. I am actually ok with the automatic gratuity, especially on a busy night before an event at the United Center - but someone should at least have pointed it out to us. I ended up applying another 20% tip on top of that, which again, I would have even been ok with that if the service would have been amazing - but I couldn't even tell you who our waiter or waitress was for the evening, since I had to get out of my booth to go find someone each time we needed something.
