The Best Chips In London - London - The Infatuation

"There are two things you should be doing around Maltby Street. One is having a glass of wine at 40 Maltby Street and another is eating steak and chips from The Beefsteaks. These veterans of the London food market scene know their stuff, and the combination of perfectly pink hanger steak on a bed of not-too-thin but not-too-thick, freshly made chips is always a winner. Especially with a load of béarnaise." - jake missing, sinead cranna

The 11 Best Steak Restaurants In London - London - The Infatuation

"Sometimes you want steak on the move. We understand, we have a pretty showstopping iron deficiency too. For a quick and really quite delicious weekend steak moment, The Beefsteaks has got you covered. They serve steak and chips at Maltby Street Market and the prices are very reasonable. Of course, we could go on about how the beef is sourced and how it was bred, but all you need to know is that it tastes really good on a bed of hand-cut crispy fries, especially when both are drenched in chimichurri or béarnaise sauce." - rianne shlebak, heidi lauth beasley, jake missing, sinead cranna

The Beefsteaks Review - London Bridge - London - The Infatuation

"The Beefsteaks have been serving steak and chips at Maltby Street and other street markets around London for while. There’s an option of steak and chips with your choice sauce, or a steak sandwich. We go for the steak and chips every time. You should too. We could go on about how the beef is sourced, how it was bred, or what it was fed, but all you need to know is that it tastes really good on a bed of hand-cut crispy fries, especially when both are drenched in chimichurri or béarnaise sauce. photo credit: Giulia Verdinelli" - Oliver Feldman

The best food stall in London! Absolutely delicious food every time (and I say this after visiting several dozen times). The steak is always perfectly cooked, the fries are crispy, and the portions are generous. Definitely with the trip to Maltby Street Market for. Alex and Tony are both super friendly and make each visit a pleasure.

Top notch steak sandwich, *delicious* sauces (highly recommend the chimichurri and homemade ketchup), phenomenal chips, all freshly made. Can tell they prioritise high-quality ingredients and really great cuts of meat, makes such a difference compared to other street-food steak sandwiches I’ve had. Alex and his team are also super friendly to boot. 10/10 would eat again.

Been meaning to go here for a while and it didn’t disappoint. I got the steak Sandwich and it was practically perfect - Bavette steak is a little bit more chewy, but it was still soft and easily separated with each bite. Accompanied with a beautiful Chimichurri sauce that still allowed the flavour of the steak to come through. And the bread (lightly charred on the grill) was perfect also - unlike some baguettes that are hard and doughy, this baguette was just the right balance of crunchy, soft and airy. All the components work perfectly, finished with a bit of caramelised onion for a bit of sweetness. I loved it I loved it I loved it. Simple but well constructed sandwich.

The best steak and chips in London! The steak is always cooked to perfection, and the triple-cooked chips are to die for - not to mention the incredible sauces, which are freshly made (chimichurri is my favourite)! Best weekend meal ever.

The steak was cooked perfectly, with a great crust and just the right seasoning. The chimichurri was spot on—and the perfect amount. The chips were crispy and full of flavor. I’ll definitely be looking forward to going back!

I love eating the Chimichuri beef with fries. Everything I go to Maltby street market I go straight for this! Even on the hottest day of the year I chose the steak! It was worth it. Juicy dripping steak! Perfectly cooked! Lovely chefs!

Perfectly cooked, fresh sauce and crispy chips. Well rated and reviewed for a reason - a simple menu and they do it all extremely well.

It was my 2nd time in London, and returning to The Beefsteaks at Maltby Street Market five years after my first visit still feels like a must-stop for anyone serious about great steak and fries in a laid-back, distinctly London setting. I first discovered Beefsteaks while walking through the market, but this time around it was high on my list of things to do in London—so much so that I messaged them weeks beforehand to make sure I wouldn’t miss them at the market. Im so glad it didn’t disappoint! They focus on high-quality, dry-aged British beef, cooked over sustainable charcoal, which gives their steak a smoky, rich flavor that’s hard to beat. The steak was as tender as I remembered, with a vibrant chimichurri that added a fresh, herby kick. The fries were perfectly crispy, making this a simple yet elevated experience. Maltby Street Market as a whole is a hidden gem for food lovers, with vendors bringing flavors from around the world. Beefsteaks stands out here not just for the food, but for the way it blends unfussy dining with thoughtful, quality-driven preparation. Beefsteaks isn’t trying to overdo it—they just know their steak and fries, and they do them right. My only con is that they were sold out of the steak when I wanted a second round. :) The chef/owner is usually there on the grill and also gave me recommendations for places to visit for a Sunday roast. The whole experience felt like revisiting an old favorite, and they’ve held up beautifully. Can’t wait to visit in the future!
