It was my 2nd time in London, and returning to The Beefsteaks at Maltby Street Market five years after my first visit still feels like a must-stop for anyone serious about great steak and fries in a laid-back, distinctly London setting.
I first discovered Beefsteaks while walking through the market, but this time around it was high on my list of things to do in London—so much so that I messaged them weeks beforehand to make sure I wouldn’t miss them at the market. Im so glad it didn’t disappoint!
They focus on high-quality, dry-aged British beef, cooked over sustainable charcoal, which gives their steak a smoky, rich flavor that’s hard to beat. The steak was as tender as I remembered, with a vibrant chimichurri that added a fresh, herby kick. The fries were perfectly crispy, making this a simple yet elevated experience.
Maltby Street Market as a whole is a hidden gem for food lovers, with vendors bringing flavors from around the world. Beefsteaks stands out here not just for the food, but for the way it blends unfussy dining with thoughtful, quality-driven preparation.
Beefsteaks isn’t trying to overdo it—they just know their steak and fries, and they do them right.
My only con is that they were sold out of the steak when I wanted a second round. :)
The chef/owner is usually there on the grill and also gave me recommendations for places to visit for a Sunday roast. The whole experience felt like revisiting an old favorite, and they’ve held up beautifully. Can’t wait to visit in the future!
