The 38 Best Restaurants in Denver

"No frills but all heart, this little soul food joint in Park Hill serves up pure comfort in the form of smothered pork chops, cornmeal-crusted catfish, gumbo, the hot wings implied by the name, and more — including trimmings like black-eyed peas, collard greens with smoked turkey, and peach cobbler. The 26 Best Restaurants In Denver 2024

"When the Blazing Chicken Shack II (the original was a food truck) opened nearly a decade ago, it beefed up Denver’s lacking soul food scene. The ladies working here are always ready to warm you up with spicy collard greens, creamy mac and cheese, crispy catfish sandwiches, and that juicy fried chicken that just might be the city’s best. The space is pretty bare bones with just a few tables, but the food and hospitality inside are pure Southern comfort." - allyson reedy

Where to Feast on Fried Chicken in Denver | Eater Denver

"Though this soul-food surprise in Park Hill also offers a half-chicken platter, its name’s a clue to its signature: hot (and honey-hot) wings, which defy logic with a crust that remains thoroughly crisp and crunchy despite its thickness and lavish coating of tangy sauce." - Eater Staff

Google
I got some bad news about a close friend and decided I needed some comfort food. I’ve been wanting to try The Blazing Chicken Shack II for over a year and I’m so glad I finally did. The Half Bird was delicious and the breast was large, tender and juicy! The sides were nothing short of amazing in their own right. The hospitality that all the employees showed me is unmatched in the Denver Area. Not only did Noblee make sure I had everything I needed, she also made a bad day feel a whole lot better with her caring nature. It was just what I needed. Don’t hesitate and go get some real food with real soul today.

Absolutely incredible food, very friendly staff. I decided to bring my friends here on a whim and wow we weren't disappointed. Still haven't missed a beat on restaurant recommendations I tell you what

I don’t live in this part of town, but I was in the area for work and was looking for a local spot, was going to check out the catfish place next-door and a few people who were hanging out outside told me to skip it and go to the chicken place instead. Solid recommendation and always good to listen to the locals. This place isn’t really trying to impress anybody. It’s clearly a local spot for people who live in the area. The food is unpretentious the people there were friendly and neighborly, both customers and staff. Food took a little while, I don’t mind that it was clearly being made to order. I got fried catfish with collard greens and potato salad. It was lovely. I think the thing that really stood out to me was that there’s not very many tables, maybe six or seven, and a guy came in getting some food to go and wanted to have a beer while he was there. The girl sitting in front of me who is eating alone offered. Her seat, struck up a conversation with him so that he could enjoy his beer while he waited for his food. I think it says a lot about a place that the customers feel comfortable enough to invite a stranger to sit with them. Very likely to be back.

Great atmosphere. Very kind staff. Good was amazing. Ain't nothing like good people and good food. Food was ready before time limit expected. They had some good music on too as well. Felt like I was at a family members home.

I just moved out here to Denver from Atlanta due to work. After hearing a co-worker recommend them I decided to give it a try. Price I Paid : $24 dollars and some change. Order: Wing Dinner w/ Macaroni and cheese and Collard Green. With a additional side order of Candid Yams. Customer Service: - My first impression was through a phone conversation when I called to place the order. The woman who answer to place my order was rude and basically rushed me. My order was to the Fried Chicken wing dinner with a side of Macaroni and cheese and the Collard Greens. She tried to rush me off the phone before I could even ask for a side of Candid Yams which I had to throw that in at the last minute before she hung up on me. - My order was incorrect instead of my order of Collard Greens I received an additional Candid Yams. Which was more than likely dude to the impatient woman who rushed to take my order without care. I informed them of the incorrect and the employee at the stand (light skin girl) was really sweet and nice and tried to get who I assumed was the bosses attention regarding my situation for the woman to yell at her employee. I then had another older black woman rudely come up to me snatch the bag out of my hand and then walk away to get me my missing order of greens while not speaking a word to me. The Food: Cons: - There’s nothing Candid about the Yams. It’s just cooked sweet potatoes with an attempted candid yam syrup. Very Watery, tasteless. - My first impression on the macaroni was the fact it looked just like velvetta so you can imagine my surprise when I tasted it to get a mouth full of Velvetta Cheese. You can tell they added extra cheese and a bit of spices to spice it up but the Velvetta is strong and can be pinned out from anywhere. - I didn’t realize the Collard Greens had cabbage until after I opened the container. This is something very unique but it seems like they use the Cabbage as a filler because the cabbage overwhelms the actual greens. It could also be seasoned a bit more. Pros: - Chicken Wings were well seasoned and a decent size. All in all I can not say I care to return back to this restaurant. I would have been more than happy to try to give their other menu options a chance regardless of how I felt about my order today. However the service and customer service alone was enough to deter me from this Black Owner Business.

Google
Best chicken and soul food I've had in denver so far and I've been here for a few years. Go check them out if you want top tier chicken. You will not be disappointed. Also check if they're accepting orders before you drive out from wherever you're coming from.

Google
In Denver for work! Found this place on google! The wait for the food was a bit long like 40 mins but I guess because they were in that kitchen putting somebody whole body in that food! When I say they did not disappoint! The hostess at the door very pleasant and friendly! While to be seated a Chinese woman walked out and said this raggedy place I’m like wow! Small but clean! When we were seated they automatically brought over water! The waitress was just as pleasant as the hostess. But as I said it was the wait for the food but the wait was well worth it! I was ready to go back today but they closed on Sunday! Definitely recommend

Google
This was my second time eating here. The owner and waitresses were very nice. I went in a Saturday, and it was popping. My food came out pretty quick, although my son, who was there before me, took an extra long time. We asked them to check on it a couple times. The owner quickly went and got it once she noticed a I was still there waiting and asked. I ordered oxtails greens and yams, and everything was tasty. The only reason I had a 4 for food was because I felt it could have had a little more flavor/ seasoning and spice. Not salty, just flavors. I also ordered peach Cobbler, which was good. I had a good amount of dough like i love it. I will be back soon. My son got the fish and shrimp he said it is good as well. Nice vibe wishing they were open on Sundays, I'm sure they would be packed out as well.

Yelp
This place looks quite different from when the forest opened. Good environment in the dining room. They did have someone at the front checking online or door dash orders. They had it all under control even calling door dash after an order sat for a time without being picked up. Family establishment, family vibes.

Yelp
Came in to visit from Vegas. Park Hill was where I grew up. Knew about this place when it first opened awhile back. My first stop off the plane. Have to admit food was outstanding!! Everything was hot!! Props to the cook and the owner!! A major staple to the area!! Will definitely be back!!

Yelp
Food was excellent. Service knocks overall rating down. I brought a restaurant owner as my guest, as I had an excellent previous visit which was 5/5. We were the only table, coming in for the highly recommended oxtail dinner, which we ordered. We had a drink, waiting for our dinner. A couple of menu items caught our eye. We ordered them around 5 minutes within our original order. Our server was annoyed and rude. In an empty restaurant at the time, I would think appreciation for more businesses, not being annoyed. It's not like she was slammed, taking care of a bunch of tables. I had others I was going to bring, but poor service to friends won't be tolerated.

Yelp
Out-freaking-standing! Can't remember when I had a meal this good. Fried chicken - cooked to order and best I've had. Red beans and rice - who knew they were that good. Gumbo - hot and full of shrimp, sausage, and chicken. Even the cornbread was outstanding with a little bite with every spoonful of beans or gumbo. Pretty damn good music too. I will 100% be back. Like I said earlier, the fried foods are cooked to order and it takes awhile to fry chicken. They do a lot of take out business too, so even if the place is relatively empty, you're probably not at the head of the line. If you don't want to wait for freshly cooked food, you should probably go to KFC with all the other bums.

Yelp
If you did not live in the neighborhood, read about or was told about, I am confident you would drive by. But tucked inside the rundown, barred strip mall is a soul food hidden gem. The posted hours are a mere suggestion and the service is spotty. I think the owners maintain that as part of their charm. The food is solid. I have had better fried chicken, collard greens along with Mac'n cheese, but I licked my plate. The corn bread was tasty and the star by far is the Carmel cake. I came straight home and looked up a recipe. Would I go back? Sure

Yelp
Please take my review with a grain of salt as I don't often eat traditionally southern/comfort food but this is in my new neighborhood and seems popular. Pros: Nice staff. The chicken was good. Cons: They play the music SO LOUD in here like its a club or something. I waited 35 minutes for wings and fries, insane. The exterior is a little sketchy with cages on the doors and windows. While the chicken was good, I thought everything was quite plain. Plain green beans, unseasoned fries, interesting cut of chicken with sauce. Just not my type of place but they seem to really be popular so you should absolutely give it a try.

Yelp
A year later my sister and I came to the place and ordered lunch. She ordered the shrimp dinner With her sides of okra, and red beans, and rice. My sister said the red beans rice was done to perfection. She loved it. I got the catfish dinner with sides of collar, greens and yams and it was very good. It was worth the wait. The food came out hot and it was awesome. We both ordered peach cobbler and my sister gobbled it up.(she was hungry lol). We will return to order again it's worth it . It was a nice inside and it was peaceful and you got to take your time eating. There was no rush. The waitresses were awesome.

Yelp
Went here last Saturday, 7/22. They were quite busy and only have a small kitchen. I ordered the Fried Chicken dinner, 1/2 a Chicken, Breast, Wing, Leg and thigh and you get two sides. I ordered the Mashed Potatoes and Green Beans, and you get a piece of Cornbread with it. Extra sides were $5.00 each, except the Mac and Cheese, which was $6. The Mashed Potatoes were rather salty, but the green beans were excellent. I also got some Mac and Cheese and it was a good size and was very Cheesey and delicious. The chicken was moist and fried just right. Very lovely ladies that work there and they were very helpful. I would highly recommend eating there.

Yelp
A Park Hill staple, The Blazing Chicken Shack II, is a great soul food eatery. Come hungry and leave happy and full. We had the 12 wings and the 3 wing meal and the food was very flavorful and delicious. We also had the cornbread, and I will have to say that their cornbread is some of my favorite cornbread from a restaurant. All the food that we had here was nothing short of delicious, and the staff were friendly and welcoming. From the moment we walked in they made sure that we had water and were taken care of.

Yelp
Too Late; Did not Read Grub literally Got Soul Service Super Bad After a couple solo trips here for takeout, I wanted my Mom to try the fried chicken at Blazin' Chicken Shack, so we decided to dine in. Big mistake. I won't make it again. The vibe was anything but comforting. Sometimes, a hole-in-the-wall spot just isn't worth the struggle. The kitchen cranks out quality comfort food, but the the focus during busy times is on takeout orders, not diners. We showed up around 5pm expecting to eat there, but left well after 6pm with takeout, and finally got to eat--back home after 6:30 with no fried chicken. Total disappointment. Our server was friendly in taking our order. She warned against fried chicken, saying it takes 25 minutes to cook and the kitchen was 30 minutes behind, so 55 min was the best we could hope for if we ordered that. Huge bummer. No such delay for other items, she assured us. Mom ordered gizzards (rarely seen on Denver menus) and I asked for the catfish, which I knew was delicious in a huge portion. I've been here before and was ready to be patient. Good food takes time. As noted by other Yelpers, the staff seem poised to snap at people they deem impatient. I know better. Over the next hour, we gave up trying to get our server to fulfill her promise of a cup of ice for our bottled Coke. Refill our waters? Forget it. On each trip to adjacent tables--including serving food to people who ordered after us--she somehow turned away or just didn't hear us asking for her attention. I get that they were busy, but ignoring customers for an hour is bush league. Eventually, I went to the counter to ask if we could have it to go. I was the only customer there. After a few minutes of watching our server and others box and ring up takeout orders, she turned her back on me and walked away. No one else helped. I checked. I'm not invisible. I followed her until she begrudgingly acknowledged me. While waiting to pay, I overheard that they must have misplaced or lost our order. No apology. Instead, the person who took payment mocked me to my face and then to other staff. I had not complained, only asked for takeout. Perhaps having enough staff would afford time to actually provide table service without being openly rude or ignoring customers. Maybe not. The surliness seems baked in--a feature, not a bug. If you like long waits, empty water glasses, and staff too overwhelmed to acknowledge you, dining in at Blazin' Chicken Shack will be right up your alley. If you're looking for comfort, just get takeout or go elsewhere. Negative stars for "service" cancel out good food.

Yelp
I came to get food and they telling me they closed earlier than the hours listed ! Wasted gas

Yelp
The waitress has a terrible attitude with women! Food is k ... not good enough to be treated like trash, while paying for subpar service. I will NEVER go back to this shack!!! Momma needs to fire her daughter.

Yelp
Wow! If I could give this place 10 stars o would. One of my things about using Yelp, is finding hidden Gems. And I definitely found one here. Don't be put off by the street appeal. As it really doesn't have any. Once you walk in you are greeted by a a few of the staff. The place is not very big, so hopefully you'll be lucky enough to find a seat. Saw that a lot of people coming in, picking up to go orders. I had the Fried Chicken with Red Beans and Rice.L, and potato salad. I can tell you here not only is everything made from scratch, it is tasty and filling. My friend had the Gumbo, he was surprised as to how good it was. He kept giving complements to the waitress and he asked to see the cook. He let her know it was the most authentic meal he has had in years. The prices are very reasonable, especially for the amount of food you get.

Yelp
This place was surprisingly wonderful. So wonderful, I had to complain as I had intended to bring home half of the enormous amount of food that was served - I got the oxtail with rice, cornbread, green beans and collard greens - and it was so good, I didn't have any leftovers to take home. Best cornbread I've ever had, the oxtail was a huge serving - one whole tail, I believe, and it was so amazingly tender. Everything was on point, and I can't recommend it highly enough. The staff was also fantastic. It's a gem!

Fannie E.

Yelp
Food was great but attitude of staff was disappointing... you can't enjoy your food when staff is rude to customers.... Bar person who took my order brought sausage when I ordered chicken then argued with me about it..... I heard her tell staff to take order at another table but not to submit to kitchen.... She was totally rude! To staff and customers!

Yelp
The Blazing Chicken Shack II is a place that makes you feel at home the moment you walk in. You can hear people laughing and giggling. And just enjoying life. Then, the closer you get to the bar, immediately you will know that it is just a bunch of grown folks enjoying each other's company. I love that they have expanded to a larger dining area and bar. When I first started coming here, it was just the front room with 2, maybe 3 tables available for dining. Though the restaurant has changed, the quality of food and the quality of service hasn't. There are so many good things I can say about the food, but I won't say it all only because I will sound like I am getting paid to say them. But trust me, I'm not. The food here is just so good that you know from the first bite that this was made with love. Every bite I've had from this place just told the story of how much passion was put into these meals. If this isn't the definition of soul food, then this must be the definition of true love. I have tried majority of these dishes, and I have to admit that there are some that I love more than others. But any given day I would not kick my wife out of bed if she had any of these dishes waiting for me next to her. My highest recommendations to have are the fried catfish and the oxtails. These 2 plates will not disappoint. Some may be put off on the fact that the menu isn't as grand other places. But I can only appreciate the short menu because I know with confidence that these items are dishes that they have perfected. In addition to the fabulous food, the service here is also something that touches your heart, in addition to your belly. We have always had a warm greeting that lets us know that we are welcome. That type of treatment only jumpstarts my hunger. This is why I always come in hungry and leave full and happy.

Yelp
I've been twice in the last month to have the catfish. The catfish is coated in cornmeal to perfection and crispy. It's so delicious. I've had greens, mac n' cheese and a couple other sides - all were tasty. I particularly like the greens made with collard greens and cabbage and smoked turkey for flavor. I will be back for more! Good, friendly service, in a nicely decorated and clean restaurant. Don't be fooled by the outside.

Christine M.

Yelp
Great catfish and gumbo. The gizzards were amazing. It's been a while since we've been here so this is the first time we saw the new addition. It's great to be able to sit at a table and relax there. Great service!

Gadge W.

Yelp
Didn't even get to experience wanted a to go order at 5:37 and they were unfortunately not taking orders. I understand that but an hour before close is a little excessive I feel, however they were not gentle in turning us down very rude.
google avatar

Elma K.

Yelp
Love the food here, place is a hidden gem. I've been there twice and both times food we ordered were amazing. Both my husband and I order fried chicken gizzards, fried okra, oxtail soup, pork neck with gravy, and gumbo. Every dish came out great, not overbearing with salt it was perfect. This is my go to spot for soul food for sure.

Yelp
Now this is some good cooking!!! Visiting in town from Georgia, and I was a little skeptical about having soul food so far from the South. Well honey let me tell you, this is the real deal!!! These ladies can COOK. When I tell you everything was delicious, not a crumb was left on my plate!!! I ordered the chicken wings with Mac n cheese and fried okra. WELL SEASONED. I didn't have to even think about reaching for the salt or pepper. My cousin ordered the catfish with fried okra and red beans and rice. Again, DELICIOUS!!! No complaints at all. Are you going to have to wait for your food? YES and you gonna be patient and have a smile on your face while you wait!! The food is cooked to order, so it's hot and fresh when you receive it. I highly recommend!! By far the best food I've had in Denver!
google avatar

Yelp
Best spot in town for soul food The staff is so nice and welcoming And the food is ON POINT every time Also there is a dining side now!!

Yelp
First off, I'm mad because I didn't take a picture of all the food we purchased! The food was GR-RRRRRREAT! Being a chef myself, I had to tip my imaginary hat to the chef! Good Lord she loves what she does! The service was great! It's something about good service...it makes the food taste even better! Lol My husband and I ordered the Oxtails. Mac & Cheese. Greens. Yams. Fried Catfish & Cornbread! It allll tasted amazing! I will definitely be going back again and again! Thank you Ms. Leola for your words of wisdom as well! I love it when, The owner, Ms. Leola walked through & ensured her guest enjoyed their food!!

Yelp
I loved the artwork and atmosphere. Feels homey, plus they have classic foods. They had the game on too. I got a hotdog and mashed potatoes and filled me up quite well. Service was fast and attentive. Will be back for sure
google avatar

Hannah P.

Yelp
Easily Denver's best fried chicken. It isn't close. I'm from down in Oklahoma & this might be the best fried chicken I've had ever, period. The sides are good, the vibe is friendly and everybody ends up a regular. It's just that good. Don't come if you're in a hurry, and try to get there early if you can. This is hang-out food! Come on by.
google avatar

Jonathan M.

Yelp
Delicious food. Good variety, love the vibe, soul food and music. A lot of culture. Will definitely come back. I really reccomend.
google avatar

Steve C.

Yelp
Their site says "Once you come in, you're family". This is true. Like in the "you know you fucked up, your Momma found out and she gonna whoop your ass when you come in but has to feed you first to withstand the beatdown" kind if way. Don't come here expecting warm fuzzy's from the staff. Just sit down shut up and enjoy the great chicken wings. The greens were very good, the fried okra was a little underwhelming. Let me say one more time, the chicken is really good. Just come in and eat, don't expect to be babied. Be a big boy or girl and don't be thin skinned.
google avatar

Azalea M.

Yelp
The service was bad and the food was bad. They need to pick a struggle. We ordered 1/2 chicken, it took over 30 minutes, then, when I had the "audacity" to inquire on the status of the order, i was quickly reprimanded about my patience and the need to wait. The chicken finally comes and it two thighs, a wing and a drumstick. SMH. They didn't even include the breast that they claimed took twenty five minutes to cook. SMH. The red beans and rice was watered down with no flavor and the Mac & cheese was bland and runny. Definitely not worth the wait or the money. The owner even had an attitude when we didn't ask for to-go plates for that nasty food

Venita T.

Yelp
The food at this restaurant was phenomenal! I had the fried chicken dinner with greens and cabbage, red beans and rice, cornbread and caramel cake. I ate everything and was happily full. The portions were large and all of the food was flavorful. My sister had the shrimp dinner with mac and cheese and greens. She took home a slice of lemon cake, peach cobbler and pecan pie. All was delicious. Her fiancé had gizzards and loaded fries. The customer service was great. I can't wait to go back!

Hayes M.

Yelp
Had the catfish sandwich and it was great. Quality ingredients and very welcoming atmosphere inside. Really sweet workers and good service. Will be back!

Sandra M.

Yelp
The chicken and gizzards are the best. They are slow moving but the food is good. Only thing some time they close early can't eat after 6:30 week days getting off work.

Yelp
Sooooooo.... Let me just say, I was blessed this evening by the food gods! I'm from the souf... yep, I said it... the SOUF and know what good soul food is! I have owned and operated 3 soul food restaurants in Atlanta and I was sooo impressed with my dinner on tonight! I don't play about my oxtails and these fell right off the bone! My collards with cabbage was wonderful as well as my red beans and rice. I also tasted the Mac n cheese and yams! Everything was spot on.... and topped everything off with red kool aid and warm peach cobbler! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I wish you much success because you all deserve it! We got into Denver late today and just checked into our room and wanted to grab a bite before settling down for the night... went to Yelp and here we are... mind you, I'm leery about soul food spots outside of the souf! Exceptional!!! Wait!!! I forgot about the cornbread... my greedy self had to order extra pieces!

Yelp
Hidden inside Holly ST , you'd be wondering how businesses survive tucked this deep. Firstly , the outside of the restaurant is super dingy but inside is like a whole new different heavenly place full of SOULLLLL Massive TVs , alcohol , full staff , this place is the epitome of hole in the wall . As for the food , all I can say is Amazing !!!! The food ta takes a bit of a time but that's primarily because they only cook to order . Menu is perfect size for a cook ro order food and I noticed that they offer specials . What I got Catfish and then I added some fried chicken . Catfish was 4/5 . I have had better catfish but their catfish was super on point . I may just have High standards on catfish as I eat catfish a lot but this place wouldn't disappoint anyone . I loved the catfish overall Fried chicken 5/5 . now I came for the catfish but the chicken here was to die for . Firstly , the chicken is cooked to order so that tasted like it was playing my taste buds allllll day . Man the fried chicken here was to something memorable . Service was so so . They require you to pay ahead which didn't bother me . As long as the food is good , service is secondary . It helps that their food was superb at least . And one of the best at most Loved this place and I'll Be back for sure

Yelp
Found a sweet gem for Soul Food here in Denver called The Blazing Chicken Shack II Don't take my word for it. This is a must try and you won't be disappointed! I started with the catfish dinner with collared greens w/cabbage & smoked turkey. Well damn! It was delicious. Had black-eyes peas as my other side. Note: they also sell alcohol. It's a small spot and we all know the best places are what some call " hole in the walls" but this place has truly impressed this Mississippi girl. It's family owned and ran. Had to try the wings and few other sides to go. All smiles

Yelp
Tonight was the last time I will support any black business who does not think customer service matters, especially when doing business with their own ...less is NOT okay! I drove 45min from Castle Pines to dine here with my children. I arrived before 3pm didn't leave until 515pm. Dined in and placed an order for my family 2 oxtails dinners w 2 sides of greens, 1 catfish dinner with mac n cheese and black eye peas. 1 gumbo. Patiently waited an hour for our food to be served, then when the food arrives it is missing 1 green and 1 oxtail plate. Initially the server attempted to tell me they put both sides of greens in one bowl, then I explained I had been there before and know how it is served. She then brings out the 2nd bowl of greens, but apparently forgot to put in the order of oxtails the 2nd time as well. So while my kids are eating I am waiting for the 2nd plate of oxtails, however when she comes back to the table 45 min later (never checking in btwn) she only gives the check. That's when I said where's my food?? She says "Oh I made a mistake and didn't put it in." I have my son pay for the food and tip (lowered undesevered tip but did so anyway, because that's who we are!) However I think it is important that the owner be made aware of my experience to offer a proper solution. Customer Service 101! Owner was made aware by regular staff member, the owner did not address the customer herself, just relayed the message it would be another 25 min and I would have to pay full price for the meal. No attempt to correct, offer future credit, half off, or even an apology for the horrible mistake or in wasting my time, or creating a horribly uncomfortable dining experience for my family. I did not eat! Did not want to pick at my kids food so, I respectfully let my kids eat while waiting for my oxtails during the second hour. Customer Service 101 (We had already been there over 2 hrs) my youngest is falling asleep in the booth. So asking for the oxtail meal to be served to go and comped was not unreasonable on my part. What is unacceptable is for a business owner in food service, not to address a customer with a proper solution who has been waiting over 2 hours in your restaurant to eat food, which ultimately I did not get, food! This is why soul food restaurants don't survive, because we as black people think we dont have to provide the same level of service when dealing with one another. I didn't come to that establishment to get free food. I came to eat and ordered most of the menu and paid. Shamefully the owner did not take the time to educate herself on the patron, why I drive 45 min to your restaurant or attempt an amicable resolution rather than filing complaints w state or BBB. In a restaurant, you never know who you are entertaining, so treating people with consistent respect should be a regular business practice, again Customer Service 101. It saddened me when the patron that sat behind me, tried offering assistance by asking the waitress if we had been helped because he and his wife came in after us, ordered got served and I'm still waiting for food, then saw me at my car, apologized himself for what happened then said "The food is good, but you know how we are! Hopefully you'll have a better experience next time." NEXT TIME?! FR?! The problem is I was left feeling like the owner and staff could care less if I came back or not. I will defintiely not be approving any catering, funding, or recommendations for this establishment or related affliates. It takes a lot for me to take the time to write an unfavorable review. I usually go out of my way to give kudos and funding to businesses in particular who are interested in providing good service and operate with integrity. This is not my first time having issues here personally in addition to others who have been referred there for various reasons. I would not even think about referring this restaurant to subject another family or business to have a similar experience as my own. Personal experience is the best experience.

Yelp
Great food. Fried chicken was solid. Chicken was a little on the salty side, but not a salt bomb like KFC. Mac and cheese and red beans and rice were excellent. Cornbread is some of the best around town. Caramel cake was pretty good. A little on the dry side. Didn't care for the peach cobbler. Little too heavy on the nutmeg/spices. Crust a little over baked. Pecan pie was good. Probably closer to 4 1/2 stars, but the sides pushed it to 5. Solid soul food.

Yelp
I found this place from eatery website and suggested to get the pig ear sandwich and okra, and it was something different for me but delicious. The pig ear was tender and tasty, the fried okra was perfectly cooked and slightly salted. I added hot sauce on both and I devoured it. I'll definitely come back to try other items from the menu when I'm in Denver.

Yelp
Very sad to receive the meal I've recently received ordering take out. I've ordered the catfish sandwich maybe 5 times. Initially it was a very nice sandwich. A nice catfish file. The last 2 catfish sandwiches have been very disappointing. The fish is so thin you can barely find it between the two pieces bread. I'm done. I wonder if i would get the same thin piece of fish if I ordered in at a table. Very disappointing. Denver CO

The food here is USUALLY AMAZING! lately literally my lst three meals have been meh! and when you call to inquire on two of the occasions there was a rude elderly woman on the phone. I'm all about supporting black businesses we have to take take care of each other- but if I cant get my order right or consistent like fish sandwhich should like the picture not whatever bread you have around..I'll return .Sad cz flavors are there.

Yelp
The food was decent. I ordered lemon pepper and hot wings. I also ordered fried okra and chili cheese fries. These were some of the best wings I've had in Denver. I placed an order for pick up and was told it would be ready in 25 minutes. When I showed up 30 minutes later there were still 4 orders ahead of me. I came back about 20 minutes later and the food was ready.

Yelp
We've seen this place every time we go to the library right across the street. It's a small place - and by small I mean no seating available - so it is a to-go style restaurant. Plenty of options means that everyone from meat eaters to vegetarians can find something to fuel up on. We predicted that the portion size would be big, and for the price, we were spot on. I tried the Gumbo w/ Cornbread, and my wife had the Shrimp Dinner. Both were great - mac was fantastic. Super friendly, very tasty, rib sticking food! We will definitely be back!

Yelp
Got the half chicken and catfish. So good. The catfish was plump and perfectly seasoned and cooked. The half chicken is fried and really crispy and yummy. Everything was so good. People were friendly and treated everyone like family. We'll be back for oxtail on Friday or Saturday! The inside was very cozy and clean. You could tell they love and care well for the restaurant.

Yelp
Feels like home! These ladies welcomed us the minute we stepped inside and the food tastes like Mom or Grandma were in the kitchen. We took our food to go but next time we'll just pull up a chair & stay a while! We sampled the chicken, catfish, shrimp with sides of Mac 'n cheese, yams, green's & Texas toast. Had a cocktail while we waited. Yup, next time we will stay a while! Thank you for a great meal!

Yelp
Chicken was great. Sides were okay. It was more expensive for a full five stars. I enjoyed it, but want to explore more options before returning.
