3-1/2 stars (bumping up for friendly service)
I'd been interested in trying The Butcher's Daughter for some time, and my partner and I had the chance to visit the Weho location. Our server was really friendly and helpful in recommending what to order, and we opted for the Surfer's burrito (with Impossible chorizo) and the Mixed Mushroom pizza. I also ordered the cardamom rose latte as the beverage of choice. Place wasn't too busy when we went close to noon, but it fills up fairly fast; I would reserve in advance for a peace of mind.
Food came, and the portions were decent: I appreciated the tortilla was toasted on the Surfer's burrito, but I found the filling (Impossible chorizo, cheese, tater tots) inside to be overly greasy and rather bland: the salsa on the side helped with some added flavor. Also wish there were more eggs and tater tots added to the burrito. The Mixed Mushroom pizza was also very rich and, while we smelled the aromatic truffle oil, strangely enough, we barely tasted it. Also a bit bland and one-noted with just cheese and mushroom, and the ample arugula on top could've been more incorporated into the pizza, as it just tasted like salad thrown on top of a pizza. Crust was decent, though, with that nice balance of crisp and chew that I enjoy. Sadly, my cardamom rose latte wasn't good, as the coffee was sour and I did not taste much of the rose flavor.
To be honest, the prices didn't fully justify the quality of the food: we paid $62 for two plates and a coffee (not to forget a 22% tip!), and we thought the food was just-okay. Overall, a pretty and aesthetic restaurant with decent, albeit slow, service, but for the quality and price of the food, I think I'm good with just this once.
