Two New Restaurants Open at Kimpton Alma in San Diego’s Gaslamp District | Eater San Diego

"Opening October 23, I experienced the Cafe as an appropriately named all-day spot—bright, easygoing, and meant to be the inverse of The Desmond. Mornings it offers bacon‑egg‑cheese sandwiches, afternoons feature grain bowls, and evenings move toward crudo and cocktails; guests can be in the lobby drinking Champagne or sipping a martini in a very casual setting. Hours are breakfast Sunday–Thursday 7 a.m.–noon and dinner Sunday–Thursday 5 p.m.–9 p.m., Friday–Saturday 5 p.m.–10 p.m." - Paolo Bicchieri

Google
Great spot to meet friends and share a nice meal in a very cool establishment. Cute, artsy neighborhood with shops and a bakery just outside the restaurant. I ordered their roasted chicken pasta salad and it was such a large portion that I took half of it home for later. Would love to go again and try some of their other menu items.

Google
I'm really digging all the upgrades they're doing! The food is amazing as always. If you've never tried the Tomato dill soup or the fiesta bean salad, you need to! Simply amazing! The cakes are all homemade and they look so delicious. Also, They now have a band that plays in the main dining room from time to time. They were great!

Google
I originally came here for fried chicken as there is some positive review. However, it is only available during dinner hours. So I ordered the fried chicken sandwiches instead. The fried chicken is very average, not particularly juicy and crispy. For the other dishes, all of them are very blend and lack of seasoning. Therefore I don't think I will visit this restaurant again.

Google
Had the huevos rancheros and it was fantastic! Great flavor, generous portion, and our waiter was friendly and helpful! Highly recommend The Cafe if you’re in Louisville.

Back in The Ville after a decade and a BFF recommended we visit Paristown Point where we discovered an art-filled environment and a warm and welcoming cozy place to dine— The Café. Vanessa and her team took extraordinary care of us and made us feel right back home sweet home. We had a scrumptious Southern breakfast at 2 o’clock in the afternoon. Exotic cheese grits with the piping hot eggs Benedict is worth a repeat. A must experience!

Google
Great experience ordering for a catered business lunch. Each order was packed carefully, and the staff thoughtfully included the notes I had submitted so folks with allergies felt safe and accommodated. Note that occasionally street access is closed, and while I was not informed, I was able to move cones to pull up in front. Pick up with plenty of buffer time as there may be others picking up large catering orders. We’ll be back!

Google
Had the scrambled eggs and bacon over grits. The grits were creamy with a good flavor. Bacon cooked nearly prefect. French toast was good, but something seemed missing. The presentation of all the food was very good.

Delicious chocolate moose cake. Been here several times including my Bachelorette party. Food always been great

Yelp
Ordered spaghetti and meatballs which was very tasty. Bit of confusion on who was going to wait on us...I think the staff was short handed? Restaurant was clean and comfortable.

Yelp
Stopped in for a quick bite and to pick up some cupcakes for the birthday girl The welcome and service was exceptional as always!!

Yelp
I have always been to this place for either brunch or lunch but I tried it for dinner for the first time. The dinner theme is Southern comfort food so expect fried green tomatoes fried catfish things like that. Overall I thought the meal was extremely heavy and oily. But I believe that is to be expected for any kind of Southern food. I walked into the cafe thinking that it would be an extension of its brunch and lunch, but I'm not so sure about their dinner options anymore. Maybe it was an off day? I would definitely like to give them a second chance.

Yelp
Had an awesome Sunday brunch at the café. Have never been here before. Very cool atmosphere with jazz music in one section and a really neat bar area in the other. Service was phenomenal at the bar and the food was perfect for a Sunday noon time brunch.

Yelp
Came back during another road trip and it's still good, still with Gluten-Free options. Service is still amazing. I love having a go-to stop. Savannah took great care of me! I'll be back!

Yelp
We were looking for a great place to have lunch when getting ready to leave Louisville, when I stumbled upon the listing on my maps app. The menu looked great! Breakfast and lunch offerings--looked great! We got there, and it was a clean space, moderately busy with an early lunch crowd. We were seated and waited on Crystal ( I think!) promptly. I ordered the Early American sandwich and hubs had the Rubino. My husband w thoroughly enjoyed his while mine --well was ok. The French bread looked like it hadn't been cooked at all. I was stunned a server would even bring something that obviously uncooked to the table. My fries were almost cold and were beginning to shrivel. I was in no mood to complain and send it back. I was hungry and tired and merely wanted get on the road head back home. But lesson learned, we won't be returning.

Yelp
Met a friend for lunch. Parking was quite an issue- you may need to drive around the neighborhood to find a spot. I had the Art Deco (a BLT w avocado). Sandwich was very generously sized. I wish the bread hadn't been toasted- gave the sandwich an overall dry feeling but the taste was great. The tots were crispy and not at all greasy. Location was busy and it was rather loud inside. We both wished it had been quieter so our convo would've been easier. Service was still quick!

Yelp
The Bloody Mary is beyond ridiculous! I hate that this place is two hours away bc we crave their food and their house made Bloody Mary mix is unbelievable! Lots of seating so wait isn't typically a problem. Hours open are minimal but the food is really great, feels priced accordingly. The brunch drinks are exact perfection!

Yelp
Anything at paristown is getting my approval. This place is good for breakfast brunch or dinner

Yelp
This place is blandly named and blandly decorated. It's just a big, open, loud space. I know they have music/events, but still. It was packed, as was every other place for Sunday brunch, but at least they could seat us. Service was awful. We could barely flag down our server to get waters, silverware, etc. I thought my shrimp and grits were just OK; most in our party did not care for their food. One person's plate was incorrect and it took forever to get the correction. I know it was a busy weekend in the city, so I'm trying to be empathetic but it was such a dismal experience.

Yelp
We stopped here for a 6 PM dinner prior to attending a performance across the street at the concert hall. We had allowed a 2-hour window; however, we were feeling it was not enough time due to the restaurant staff appearing to be spread thin. We ultimately made it in time, but I'm thankful our venue was located across the street. I was able to order a margarita about 20-30 minutes after being seated and am glad I also decided to go ahead and put in an order for a Kentuckian sandwich and bleu cheese Cole slaw -- no cooking involved, just assembly. Wise choice! Our food arrived and the margarita was finally delivered to the table 10 minutes later. We had each requested frozen with salted rim, and both were inaccurate. We opted not to say anything due to time constraints. Venue was moderately loud due to almost capacity crowd. It was punctuated at times with sharp increases in noise when the staff person bussing tables would shove dishes into his bin in what seemed to be one feel swoop. The majority of the patrons would jump to attention each time this happened, and it was more the norm than the exception. We plan to return here in a few weeks when we attend another event in the area, so I am willing to give it another try to see if this is the norm or an anomaly. Maybe I will even be confident enough to order a hot entree or even an appetizer and not feel pressed for time. Food items we have had are always fresh and delicious.

Leigh C.

Yelp
Where do I start..... under staffed... order a drink? You probably won't ever get it. The appetizers were actually decent but the entrées tasted like tires. If you looked up "mismanaged" and "restaurants who don't have good service or any of the foods you want", you'll find this place. If you pick this place, god speed, pre order 4 bourbons... you got this

Yelp
The Cafe is easy, good food in a nice environment with a kind staff. The Huevos Rancheros was a great pick! The Biscuits and Gravy were 10/10! We enjoy coming here for breakfast, lunch & dinner!

Yelp
This was our first time eating here, so we were excited to try it! We showed up early, but they were very strict in waiting until reservation time. They did seat us exactly at 7, but we were very shocked to see only half the room was filled and it still took about 10 minutes to get water. The waiter was very knowledgeable about the food and the crab cake appetizer was delicious. My boyfriend got the southern style fried chicken which was seasoned well! I got the catfish and while it was very fresh, it was really plain! No amount of tartar sauce could save it! I was really excited to try the Mac n cheese and it was cold. I do believe this was due to the cheese sauce that is used, but still disappointing. The waiter did bring me another side of it which was a little better but it still got cold hence my conclusion on the cheese. While our waiter was kind, it just took too long to be greeted checked on with no full restaurant. It was a cute space, but I do believe some live music would be nice to add to the space! We saw a piano but it was covered up. For me, dinner was a bit over priced for the experience as it was $65 for 2 meals and an appetizer with waters. I would like to give it another chance for their breakfast!

Yelp
While semi-hidden, this spot shines out with delicately crafted cocktails, flavorful dishes, & great staff! To start off, the small classic Caesar salad was plentiful with fresh lettuce, aged Parmesan, and a roasted sliced lemon. The Kentucky Sour was gorgeous, like looking at a fall sunset! Our waitress, who is also a bartender, did an amazing job with the drink! Then, we had some Fried Chicken Sandwiches tossed with Buffalo sauce. Very yummy and not dry. Our sides consisted of the garlic roasted mashed potatoes (which the flavor of garlic cloves oven roasted) & Brussels sprouts, both delicious. We finished off with a large portion of bread pudding (warning: it does have raisins, but you can easily take them off). Next time, I'll definitely be back for brunch or dinner!

Yelp
We stopped back in for another dinner. It was the same. I would love to give The Cafe a better review as our server had a great personality. Maybe, we will try agin in the future.

Yelp
Love this place. Been eating at the cafe for over 25 years. Of course it's moved a couple times since then. Love the unique foods and fresh breads and their delicious desserts. They have very good ice tea as well. Never had anything I didn't absolutely love. My favorite is the pimita pizza and tomato dill soup. However even the kids pb&j is delicious not sure how they manage that (Breads are wonderfu). This is one of my favorite happy places to eat. Staff and management Always friendly and accommodating. Must try!

Yelp
First time customer. Arrived at 12 noon. They stated that it would be an hour wait, so please reserve if possible. Even though there is a lot of seating, they do get a lot of customers. To kill time, we walked around one of the little shops inside the establishment. We were seated at 1pm. The waitress let us know that it was going to be a wait, which it was. We didn't get our food till 2pm. During our waiting time, we was entertained by a 3 man band called the 'Derby City Dandies.' They played with a stand up bass, drums, electric acoustics guitar, and Ukulele. They played a little bit of everything from jazz to bluegrass. We ended up grabbing their business card before leaving. Once we received the food, my order was fine, but the other dishes, the eggs were cold (my friend didn't eat it), and the tator tots were extremely salty (my sis didn't eat it). Also, if you are not familiar, make sure to read the menu when ordering, there were some and/or which we was thinking it came with the order and it didn't. I thought my Belgin waffle came with the fruit and whip but you have to ask for it. If not you will just get the waffle. My friend thought her order came with potatoes and it did not. So just confirm what your order comes with or doesn't so you won't be shocked when you don't get it. My friend had to ask for her orange juice twice (once from the lady that brought our drinks and second time when she reminded the waitress). She finally got her OJ when her order came out. I personally won't be back. I don't mind the wait but when your food comes out cold, especially after patiently waiting, it's just not worth it. Pros: 1. A shuttle picked us up from the public parking. Driver stated that he was available till 2pm. Though it's not a far walk, it was right on time. It was pouring down raining and as soon as he seen us parking, he asked if we wanted to ride. 2. The little shop had a lot of interesting things for shopping while you wait to be seated. They even had a 'Paint You Art Out' section where you can sit and paint on ceramic plates. 3. Place is spacious. 4. Waitress was nice. 5. The band was entertaining. 6. Sits across from ice skating ring. Cons: 1. Cold food 2. Wait time (better have patience). Waited to be seated (1hr). Waited another hour to get our food.

Yelp
After going to the Saint James Art Festival we had lunch at The Cafe. Although we had reservations for a little later we were able to get a table sooner by just dropping by. Unfortunately Open Table could not update an earlier time due to some issues. Grrr. Do note that the menu has been streamlined. For one thing they no longer have the Pick Three Combo but now have the Pick Two Combo that includes 1/2 sandwich, soup and a beverage for the same price as the Pick Three. That being said our server was unaware of the menu update and charged us for our drinks. Our server did correct this, however, I was told to double check my credit card to make sure we weren't overcharged. Grrr. When Sal and his wife sold the business people were concerned that prices would go up and quality down. The quality of the food is still good but prices have gone up quite a lot. Oh, when I attempted to call them after not being able to change the reservation online I got voicemail that said all reservations have to be made online. Grrr. At least when Sal and his wife owned the restaurant someone would answer the phone. Frankly, it's become impersonal these days.

Yelp
The Cafe has been staple lunch spot for as long as I can remember. I don't recall entrees being on the menu until they moved to their new location, which is basically just down the street. The Cafe is one of the first places that comes to mind when anyone asks for a lunch recommendation. Regardless of who you're dining with, this establishment seems to be a crowd pleaser. If you want to try something that is unique to The Cafe, at least in my experience, the Pimita is a must. It's basically a flatbread covered in pimento cheese and topped with bacon and red onions. It's served with a cup of chili, and quite possibly the most craveable thing on the menu. When it comes to deli sandwiches, The Cafe doesn't disappoint. It's also a go-to for southern favorites like Benedictine and chicken salad. They serve various breakfast dishes, an assortment of cakes, and dinner entrees as well. If you're trying to find the place that has something for everyone, look no further. The Brent Street Burger is solid. I personally would opt for their tots over their fries. You can't go wrong with a side of brussel sprouts. Be sure to ask about the soup of the day. The soups are delicious and available in larger sizes for takeout, making it a perfect spot to stop by on a cold winter day. Their salads and sandwiches are equally refreshing year-round. Pictured below is the pork chop. It was perfectly adequate, especially for the price point, but not the best I've ever had. I'll reserve judgement on the entrees until I've had more of them, but for breakfast or lunch...you can't go wrong.

Yelp
The food and my cappuccino were fantastic. Service was slow but the restaurant was probably understaffed. Also, my cappuccino came in a to-go cup even though I was dining in with my boyfriend. These issues, however, were made up for by a perceptive server, great food, and generous portions. The tater tots were tasty although salty and the roasted chicken sandwich was one of the best sandwiches I have ever had.

Yelp
Went on a Sunday for brunch. Able to get a reservation that morning. We had 4 adults and 4 toddlers and they were accommodating. Food took a while but there were a lot of tables and it was peak "brunch" time. Enjoyed our meals.
google avatar

Yelp
I enjoy stopping for lunch. My normal order is the RUBINO, their version of a Reuben. It is always flavorable. And of occurs the staff is always friendly.
google avatar

Yelp
Dinner with friends and family! The bar side was unique and the perfect spot for a girls dinner and the service was top notch! The hot brown was so good. And I love the dip trio for a quick lunch break. Perfect central spot.
google avatar

Jason E.

Yelp
This place is very nice and the owner takes time to talk to you. I was here for Hot Brown Week as usual and of course I'm too cheap to pay the regular price. I wouldn't buy at the normal price but for $12 it was OK. Their sauce is a little bit different kind of sour but OK every once in a while and wouldn't want it all the time. The bacon was mediocre little bit chewy not as crispy or strong flavored as I like. The turkey was pretty good. The toast was excellent. I sat at the bar and service was pretty good. I had music playing live in the main room a smooth jazz. Everything was very clean and the place is pretty.

Yelp
Brunch today at The Cafe. This is a restaurant that we frequently go to for a quick lunch or dinner but today we decided to get brunch. And we're so glad we did. Many of the dishes at The Cafe are good but we have also had our share of limp overdressed salads some food not arriving hot enough. So we approached brunch with high hopes. Let me tell you, I believe breakfast /brunch items are their specialty. I had the Foster that consisted of country ham and swiss cheese served on toast. It had Dijon mustard and mornay sauce on top with spinach and tomato. It comes with sunny side eggs on top but I had them leave them off...don't do eggs unless they are scrambled or an omelet. It was delicious. Son had the Breakfast Special - Two eggs scrambled with bacon ( had a choice of bacon or sausage) and the bacon wasn't at all great and was nice and crisp. It came with grits or potatoes or fruit and he went for the grits which were creamy and buttery. Also came with a side of what they call Italian Toast. Again, zero complaints. One of the top things about The Cafe is the wait staff. Friendly, efficient and make you feel comfortable and "at home". The decor in minimalistic, large open area with high ceilings.
google avatar

Yelp
Delicious lunch! I had the Lunch Combo #3 with Tomato Dill Soup and a 1/2 order chicken salad (which I ordered without bread). Husband had the Shrimp and Grits. Everything was delicious. Service was friendly and attentive. Great lunch spot.

Yelp
Whew! What can I say!? F- experience. I *never* write reviews but this was abysmal. Sat directly by the door when we were one of the first seatings of the evening. The tater tot appetizer's mornay was flavorless. We ordered a four course prix fixe and the scallop appetizer didn't come until the entree. Never received our dessert. Our wine (merlot) came as a cab sav 3/4ths of the way through our entree - and only two glasses for a four person table. The other two glasses came stemless - not the right glass for red wine. Waiter kept saying everything was either out of stock or not available. Never received our dessert course. I guess they had to go to Kroger to procure that as well. Just an absolutely awful experience. DO NOT COME!!!!! Will not be back!

Yelp
Absolutely fantastic. I really wanted to try benedictine and found out this place served a sandwich with just the stuff. I made a reservation for breakfast and I'm grateful we had a rental car because this place was a little bit of a trek from our hotel in downtown Louisville. No reservation was needed at 9am on a Wednesday as there were only a few tables. This place is huge though! I imagine it is probably quite crowded during brunch times, and deservedly so. The staff were awesome, the server was one of the best servers I've ever had. I ordered my queen anne sandwich with homemade benedictine with sliced cucumbers and lettuce served on walnut wheat bread. This usually comes with bacon but they were able to omit this upon my request. It was definitely unique and not like anything I've had before. The spread is delicious. The cucumber was copious. I didn't hate myself after eating it, there was definitely some nutrition in there. GF ordered "southern grits scramble" with grits, scrambled eggs, bacon, tomatoes, and cheese served with toast. She says, "delicious". The server was so awesome he delivered a massive slice of chocolate cake with the check. The cake was AMAZING. It was such a nice touch!!! What a great place.

Yelp
Finding a nice restaurant in the Highland/Phoenix Hill area at 3:30 in the afternoon is not easy to do. It seems most everyone closes after their lunch rush and doesn't open again until five. However, we rarely get into that area, and were hungry at 3:30! Who would've thought?! And we wanted to eat something we couldn't get out in "the country," where we live. Fortunately, we thought of The Cafe, where we hadn't been for a few years. a Really glad that we did! I had not seen their new location under the same roof as Louisville Stoneware & across the street from where they were previously. Even though I was tempted to stop and gawk at the attention-grabbing bakery products on display as we entered, a sweet lady met us and escorted us back into the restaurant proper. I absolutely loved the colorful posters on the walls, and since we were the only two patrons, there was plenty of time to walk around and look at things to our hearts' content. While there is also a bourbon bar, that's not something either of us cares for, so we ignored it. Writers option! We had barely gotten seated when a server took our drink order and left us with menus after a debate with one of the other servers as to whether we qualified for the breakfast/lunch menu or the dinner menu. The breakfast and lunch won, but we also got a look at the dinner menu to decide if we would like to eat dinner there sometime. We would. I ordered the Stephen Foster sandwich, which is basically their version of a Hot Brown with country ham and eggs. I was a little concerned that the ham might be a bit chunky and overwhelming, but it was more shaved than chunky, and it was delicious. The eggs added an extra exciting element that I'm not used to in a Hot Brown. I wouldn't have minded a little extra tomato, but I couldn't finish the whole plate, so I really didn't need anything more! Hubby ordered the chicken sandwich, well done, along with some tater tots. He was quite pleased with his meal and cleaned his plate in short order. We had seen the available cakes for the day as we entered the restaurant. Although we didn't have room for dessert there, they were more than happy to prepare a couple of slices for us to take home. We haven't tried the cake yet, but will probably have it for dessert for at least two, and possibly three, days! It was difficult for me to pass on the Italian Cream Cake, because I have had it in the past and know that it is delicious. However, I couldn't resist the Strawberry Cake. I will try to remember to come back and add that to this when I have eaten it all! My review for the restaurant would easily be a 5 star, but the facility is still under construction and the restrooms weren't available. The facility in the communal area wasn't very clean with garbage cans all overflowing onto the floors. Hopefully, the restaurant's restrooms will be completed & cleaner when we return.

Sharon M.

Yelp
Service was a bit slow, but our waitress was fun and persistent! Food was very good. I ordered avocado toast- regret. Barely any avocado, needed more! Hollandaise was good- but with poached eggs, it was not significant addition. Peppers and onions would have added very much The rest of our group were thrilled. Will be coming back!

Yelp
Met up with some coworkers here for lunch during the week day. Highly recommend making a reservation well in advance. We were able to get a time, just a little earlier than what we had originally planned (side note: this was during the winter holiday season). There is plenty of parking in the lot for the Paristown activities which is a hidden gem. The eating area is very spacious and they have a wide variety of items to choose from. We had a hummus and dip platter which was delicious and I got one of the boxed lunch combos (Louis XIV and pasta salad). Here's a few #WorthyNotes: 1) Make a reservation in advance 2) Try one of their delicious cakes 3) Visit the other Paristown attractions while you're there

Yelp
Great ambience well lite space roomy and airy. I loved the live band Service was fast and everyone was so nice food was amazing I got the tuna on pita With Lays chips and a fruit cup

Yelp
There were signs directing us to free parking in a lot nearby (very short walk). You basically walk across a street and a courtyard area that appears to host music concerts and has Cornhole and ping pong you can play. Great outdoor area between 3 restaurants/businesses. We had an early super at around 4pm and were the only one in the restaurant! It is huge and has a fun vibe to it! I bet it is a happening place at night! Indoor and outdoor seating available. One large room was light and airy, while another seating area had the dark bar feel. Both great spaces! We were seated right away and the food came quickly. Our sole purpose for eating here was to try a Kentucky Hot Brown while in the area. They have a gluten free bread option, so I was able to enjoy it as well. It was amazing!! Would love to go back someday, because so many things sounded good! Would definitely recommend. Maybe there is somewhere to check if there is an outdoor band or something playing? Enjoy!

Yelp
The food here is very yummy. The food prices aren't really high. The drinks are a little on the pricier side but the bustle of the place is nice. The servers are always nice and knowledgeable.

Yelp
I was craving a sandwich and wanted delivery. After consulting a certain app to see what's open and available, I landed on The Cafe and its Rubino. This sandwich includes New York style corned beef, Swiss cheese, house Dijonnaise sauce, coleslaw, tomato slices on grilled artisan Milwaukee rye. And I got the pasta salad on the side with tomato dill soup. I liked that this meal offered a lot for the price. And it hit the spot. The corned beef was great, only wish there was more of it. It's been forever since I was last at The Cafe and its newish spot in Paristown. I'll have to go pay a visit soon.

Yelp
I tried coming here for a quick breakfast, but ended up staying way longer than I wanted. We weren't acknowledged for the first 20 minutes. We weren't offered any water or coffee either. Our sever finally came and apologized, but sometimes the damage has already been done, it was far too late for an apology. I try to be understanding, he was a great guy with a positive attitude, so I definitely didn't give him a hard time about, but still worth pointing out. My wife ordered their Biscuits & Gravy. It was a huge plate, but the gravy wasn't the greatest. It was too watery and lacked flavor. The biscuits were good though. I ordered their Hot Brown. This was my first time eating a Hot Brown and it was actually pretty good. It came with bacon, tomatoes, turkey, and a delicious cheese sauce. A weird combination I must say, but it all complimented each other. I wouldn't hesitate ordering a Hot Brown again, but will probably order it at another restaurant before returning here.

Yelp
We had reservations at 11:15am on a Sunday. Our table was ready when we arrived. There were a few empty tables for larger parties but other than that most tables were occupied. Our server was very nice. We all got a round of Bloody Mary's & Bloody Maria's while we decided on what we wanted to eat. By the time we decided on food our drinks arrived. Our food came out not too long after we put it in. I decided on the breakfast special with bacon, scrambled eggs, & fruit. I was very happy with the amount of bacon they give you. Some places only give you a couple of strips, but The Cafe gave me about 5. My eggs were delicious. And the fruit was fresh. Definitely enjoyed my brunch!

Yelp
Excellent selection and generous portions of food. Great service and atmosphere. Love the area and the ceramic shop connected to the venue.

Yelp
Loved this big open space. The service was a little slow but nothing that ruined our experience. My sister got the Huevos Rancheros & loved hers. I did the lunch combo #3 the Edwardian, tomato dill soup & tried their pasta salad. The sandwich was good, fresh ingredients. My favorite of the three was the tomato dill soup. Oh & it came with a huge cookie. Saved for way later & it was delicious. We can't wait to bring others back. We didn't realize how cool Paris town is. I loved that they had a big parking lot strictly for the area. I'm sure it is full at times but it was really nice for our visit. Lastly, the store connected to the restaurant called Stoneware & Co. you have to check it out. So many awesome quality things & a lot of unique to Louisville items.

Yelp
I was a frequent diner at the original Cafe at the antique mall and also at the second Brent St. location. Today I thought I would try the latest version as I've not been there since the transition to new owners. Unfortunately, I could not have been more disappointed. We arrived around 3pm and were seated in a huge dining room that appeared to have been the spot of a graduation party. The dining room was a mess! There was food and garbage on the ground from the large party, chairs were askew and nobody seemed to be cleaning it up. We were seated at the first table by the door and we were greeted by our server within a few minutes. I ordered a dirty gin martini with no vermouth (from the special cocktails menu). My companion ordered a Moscow mule. I'm not sure how they managed to make these basic cocktails taste so bad. The dirty martini tasted nothing like gin and had a strange sweetness that could not have been caused by the blue cheese olives --maybe it was that mass produced "dirty" brine that has never seen an olive--It was so bad that I had to order something else. I ordered a Moscow mule too and geez, again a disaster. The ginger was so faint that I could barely sense it and the drink was so watered down that I'm not sure it even had vodka or lime juice in it. The soup was good, although very different from the original, delicious tomato dill under the previous owners. It was mealy and certainly was missing the hint of heavy cream that I expected. I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich, which arrived on a stark white, un-toasted (possibly uncooked) baguette. It was as bland as the Moscow mule. At least I'm now sure that I haven't been missing anything. Although, that is what is to be expected when owners of pseudo-regional sub-par restaurant chains buy out small family-owned businesses. Paris town deserves better.

Yelp
This probably won't be a fair review because our whole experience was altered based on a 50+ party arriving about the same time as we did and we were also advised that 2 cooks had called in... so they were short staffed and were slammed. Upon arrival, I immediately thought "this is definitely not the vibe I think we'd like" as it looked like a 60+ age vibe but that might've just been because of that large party being the only people I saw. We were sat in a different area that was MUCH better. I believe dinner is new for them as well. Our waiter, Chris, did a good job despite it all with the large party and kitchen issues. After waiting a while, a manager explained the situation... all good. When our food started to be served for 6 of us, it was served in shifts... 2 people got their food first. A good while later, a 3rd person got their food. And then we waited and waited for the rest. Finally the last 3 got their food... but it was cold. Taste was there but I ended up taking mine home (mine was one of the last to arrive and was cold... ribeye steak frites) in order to eat later, warmed up. I'd heard rave reviews about the Tomato Dill soup and it lived up to the hype... it was amazing... we got that quickly, thankfully or I might've became hangry. haha. I think everyone was good on the taste of their food, so that's a plus. It just wasn't a good night for the restaurant. I'm sure the place is wonderful on normal terms and I look forward to going back sometime, probably for brunch. The menu looks great! And I will add, the staff did take care of us... they discounted our bill and gave free desserts (one of which was bread pudding which is my favorite dessert... it was ok, served with an orange flavor). I appreciate them recognizing the issues and doing what they could to try to make up for it.

Yelp
Enjoyed the cafe on a Sunday morning with a group and It was fantastic! We made a reservation, but was able to get in early. Waitress was attentive, all our food was correct and delicious! I would recommend the biscuits and gravy. Easy parking near by and the Louisville stone shop is next door. Very cool place and will be back!

Yelp
The Cafe takes reservations; however, our spot for 10a wasn't needed. Plenty of spots to sit! One area feels more casual in the open floor space while the other feels like a intimate bar and restaurant. We were places in the later and while I enjoyed and the vibe and our server, we were placed next to the kitchen. In general, I dislike being able to see the coming and going of restaurant kitchens. All of our dishes were enjoyed. I got the breakfast platter with eggs (over hard) and chose bacon (delicious, crispy and 4 pieces). It came with toast but it was actually more of a hoagie-type bun that was toasted. I also selected fresh fruit (over grits or roasted potatoes). The roasted potatoes are a solid choice though. My husband got them and they were crispy. Be aware they have small onions in the dish. I was able to eat around them. Other dishes to mention - biscuits and gravy. Huge portion and I will come back for this. The Belgian wafffle was a good size, but fairly basic. Toppings available but at almost $3 each, including the whipped cream. My youngest isn't a breakfast guy and opted for the fried chicken sandwich. He was super happy with it and the side of fries ... at 10a LOL Fantastic service from check in to leaving. The front desk even passed along two cookies to our kids and they were so good. Chocolate chip but with cinnamon sprinkled on top. The Cafe seems to be known for cakes. Huge slices available as well as scones and bread pudding. Looking forward to our return visit! Plenty of public parking in front of and near the Cafe. Open 7 days a week. Great for groups and families, or cocktails with friends.

Yelp
Found this restaurant while in town overnight and visiting Louisville Stoneware. We were hungry and decided to have lunch here. Cute place! Baked goods out front looked amazing but we didn't indulge. I ordered a chicken salad sandwich and it was thick and delicious. Chose bean salad for my side and it was really really good! My husband had a meatball sandwich and said it was delicious as well. Our server was attentive and food came quick. Will definitely return!

Yelp
This place was awesome! Clean and updated old style warehouse with modern twists! Flavorful traditional and southern style breakfast! My Husband had the English muffin with cream spinach. Artichoke, ham and poached egg- was cooked to perfection! I had the scrambled eggs on biscuits with bourbon bacon jam!!!! Delicious and filling- grits with cheese were outstanding. Ray and our waitress made us feel right at home and were super accommodating! Also Bloody Mary's were on point! All in all a great experience. I highly recommend.

Yelp
We went for a bachelorette. It's a really big space and relatively affordable. All of us enjoyed our meals. If you enjoy girl dinner they have an excellent caesar salad. Service was pretty good. They had to deal with a big party of 6 and seemed to handle it well.
