The Cantor Roof Garden Bar

I wish it was more like an actual bar. They barely had any seats. Some high tables and chairs would be much better than the wooden benches which are too low and also don’t face the view. We went on a hot day and the sun was burning us up. Would have been nice to have some shade options. The “bar” is ok but also there I would have preferred actually glasses instead of little plastic cups. The view is great though. Definitely recommend coming up and at least having a look.

The Cantor Roof Garden Bar at the Met is an excellent place, weather permitting, to view the Manhattan skyline, get a cocktail, and a bite to eat.

I just feel like for $60 for 2 sandwiches, 1 alcoholic beverage and 1 soda they could have at least put out some tables. The view was great, the art was okay I guess.

Use the side entrance on 8th if you live in NYC for quicker access. The bar opens late May. Amazing views and they had this artist Egypt exhibit that was so cool! Great views!

I finally made it today thanks to "The Roof Garden Commission: Lauren Halsey" exhibit! The rooftop (elevator to the 5th level) has a good view of the West Side skyline across the Central Park. It'd have been worth a stop by itself, but now with Lauren Halley's Egyptian themed exhibit, the wow factor has more than doubled. We spent a good 30 minutes to soak it all in. There is an outdoor bar right next to the entrance. You exit at a different door which leads to stairs down to the 4th floor instead of elevators. I didn't ask but I would presume a wheelchair bound person would be allowed to exit from the entrance.

This place is such a hidden gem 💎 in NYC! When visiting the Metropolitan Museum of Art 🎨 look for the elevator that leads to the roof. The roof has an ever-changing display of sculptures 🗿 Go in the afternoon for a marvelous view of Central Park 🏞️ and Midtown 🏙️ - so iconic! 🌇 Great spot to grab some Instagram-worthy pictures 📸 I wish it was open more often (and that the elevator was easier to find)!

A visit to the Cantor Roof Garden Bar at the Met Museum is an absolute must. Not only can you enjoy a captivating exhibit, but the panoramic views on offer are nothing short of breathtaking. While we didn't indulge in any drinks, the overall ambiance and setting were truly splendid. Here's a tip: make the most of the extended hours on Fridays and Saturdays, as the museum remains open until 9pm. The evening hours present the rooftop in its most enchanting light, although be prepared for sizable crowds. During our recent visit last week, the space was brimming with visitors, attesting to its popularity.

First off, this place was surprisingly difficult to find. I had to ask three staff members before one kindly walked me to the dedicated elevator that leads to the fifth-floor garden. It's described as a rooftop garden bar, but in reality, it feels more like a simple coffee stand. The view is beautiful and offers a nice breath of fresh air from the museum, but don’t expect a full bar experience. I ordered a sparkling wine and was given it in a plastic cup. The food options were very limited and didn’t look particularly appetizing, and the alcoholic beverage selection was minimal as well. There were no tables or chairs, not even high tops, which made it hard to enjoy the space. The cashiers weren’t especially friendly but still prompted a 20% tip. I’d recommend visiting the rooftop for the view, but there’s really no need to make a purchase.

Awesome rooftop views with cool drinks and good vibes. Definitely a must see before it closes. A bit small, but a great place to view sunset and the city at night!

A bit of a wait to take the elevator to the Cantor Rooftop before viewing the Superfine: Tailoring Black Style exhibit was worth the wait to see the Manhattan skyline, have a bite to eat, and a cocktail to enjoy the view. Note: Friendly Fast-moving line to get a sandwich and a cocktail.

Came here with my boyfriend on a Saturday night just in time for sunset around 7PM in the summer time. Fun fact: you get free access if you purchase Met Cloister tickets on the same day and they have extended hours until 9PM on Saturdays. Not so fun fact: the line for the elevator was wrapped throughout the Met and several staff members told us that access was closed for the night, even though it was not. The rooftop itself is packed! Folks are bumping into each other to try to get the best photo possible. The sunset and the skyline were beautiful. We didn't end up ordering any drinks at the bar but there are plenty of people who did and are drinking. Sadly, in October they'll be closing the roof for a few years.

Unfortunately, time is running short. If you'd like a peek at the rooftop, go before October 19, 2025. After that, they'll be closing for renovations until 2030. Obviously, unparalleled views of Midtown and the Park. Try going a weekday, early or midday for the smaller crowds. For access, find the European & Decorative Arts section (after entering Met, a little way in and turn left) and then find the Rooftop elevator to the 5th floor. Enjoy!

WOW! This place is so cool. Very limited menu, but they do their cocktails and mocktails well. Service was as efficient as it could've been given the time of day, and the amount of people in line. It's a great place to check out and take a break while perusing the wonderful art inside. 1) It's pricey. But hey. It's a rooftop bar on top of the Met with a killer view of NYC. It is what it is. 2) My drink rocked. I got the blackberry gin 75 boozy cube, and it was super great. It's essentially Prosecco with a frozen cube of blackberry gin 75 that melts as you drink it. I enjoyed it. 3) The current installation was awesome (shoutout to Lauren Halsey), and I know they have great artists on rotation (because duh, it's the met).

We visited the roof garden hoping for a great afternoon, but getting there was surprisingly difficult. It's only accessible via a specific elevator, and despite trying a few times, we kept getting lost in the building. When we finally made it up around 4pm (it closes at 4:15pm), we discovered the refreshment stand had already shut since it closes at 4pm on Sundays. Although we managed to take some stunning photos with the skyline backdrop, we were disappointed not to enjoy a cocktail as planned -- which really took away from the overall experience.

It's cool- definitely a must see if you're at the Met visiting or live in NYC. The bar line can get pretty long but it's gorgeous rooftop and very relaxing.... Not the tallest building but very green and straight ahead view of the Manhattan skyline.

The Met offers one of the best views of the city! During the summer there are events or art exhibits to enjoy on the rooftop. I've visited the rooftop several times over the years and recently came here for Date Night held on Friday and Saturday nights where you can enjoy live music across the Museum. I had an amazing evening listening to music and dancing. The drinks are standard rooftop prices, but worth it for the view. Perfect spot to enjoy an afternoon or evening cocktail while visiting the museum. Tip: If it's your first time visiting ask one of the employees for directions, otherwise you may get lost. One of the city's best hidden gems!

It's a great view of the city and the art installation is interesting. It can be a little crowded depending on when you go, but weather permitting it's a beautiful experience.

One of my favorite places in New York. This is the rooftop of the Metropolitan Museum, actually IN Central Park. Think a glass of wine with the best sunset view over the Park you've ever seen, coupled with some cutting edge sculpture that changes often. I always used to take friends and relatives here when I lived in NY, and now always try to go when back as a visitor myself. The drinks are a little expensive and there's no real food on the roof. You also can't get in without a museum ticket, so there's a de facto entry charge. Fun fact: NY, NJ, and CT residents get into the Met on a pay-what-you-will basis, but you have to show proof of residency. Sadly "used to live in Manhattan for 25 years" won't get you a freebie ticket to the Met if you now have a Florida driving license. If I could only do three things in my last couple of hours on the planet it would be a) go here to the Cantor Rooftop and watch the sunset, b) stand on the steps on the Temple of Dendur inside the Met pretending to be a Pharaoh, and c) go see 3,00 year old Greek statues near Tiffany glass. Cantor Rooftop is one of the most beautiful experiences NY has to offer, and not to be missed.

The Met Roof Garden is a wonderful place to get a drink, enjoy an art exhibit and take in a gorgeous view of Central Park and the buildings surrounding the Met. It always is a little bit of a trek to get here. To get here, you must go to the second floor, find the elevator to the rooftop, take it to the top floor and then walk one flight of stairs. If you are wearing heels, be prepared to walk a flight or two of stairs. Thankfully, they have retiled some of the stairs to help with traction. I've been here countless times. Some exhibits were amazing, others were eh but at least the view is always excellent! The memorable events are as follows: 1) Oct 2008 for Jeff Koons Exhibit. It was so fun to see large balloon animals on the Met in the cooler months of October. People were so well dressed to see this exhibit before the exhibit ended! 2) June 2016 for a Google Meetup. We played a scavenger hunt, met some new friends, took some great pictures and saw the creepy deconstructed barn from Psycho. 3) June 2018 to see the Met Gala exhibit: Heavenly Bodies. Afterwards, my friend and I were thirsty and I wanted to see the view, so we sipped and chatted on a bench. Also Huma Bhabha, We Come in Peace was on display. It was provocative and very ominous. It's pen seasonally April to October, weather permitting. The Met is one of the greatest museums in New York and what better way to round off an afternoon of culture than with a Martini stop at the rooftop bar. The uninterrupted views of Central Park are spectacular and are beautifully framed by the backdrop of the Manhattan skyline. Best view in New York tip: admission fees at the Met are recommended amounts so don't feel under pressure to pay the full whack if you're just stopping by for a drink.

Simple enough. Little protection from sun or rain. Limited bar - they could not do gin and tonic but had two delightful pre made cocktails. Snacks a joke. Peanuts anyone? But the view to die for. The strange thing is access somewhat hidden up elevator guarded by a volunteer. Despite this enough people found a way up.

The Met's Cantor Rooftop Bar has been on my list for a while now, and I was finally able to visit this Summer! The rooftop was surprisingly serene and a different crowd than you see at most rooftop bars. We went on a late morning in August, so it wasn't too packed but starting to fill up with a diverse mix of tourists, older couples, families and girls out on the town. We were able to easily find places to hang out along the railing for a view and we're also able to enjoy our drink on the benches. Tip: Keep in mind that you will still need to pay admission to visit the rooftop, so utilize free museum admissions such as the first weekend for Bank of America customers or if work perks like free admission for Morgan Stanley employees. There was an art installation that was super unique, as you often don't get to see real life version art on rooftops but it added to it's allure and personality of the Met. The views were incredible, and unique from many of the other rooftops I visited in the city. It's more of a view from outside the city looking in, rather than the alternative at rooftops within midtown/ downtown Manhattan. There was a small bar at the rooftoop that had interesting and unique drinks I wasn't necessarily expecting at the Met. We ordered the Mango Margarita, which was absolutely delicious and semi-strong! My friend who normally doesn't drink very much thoroughly enjoyed this as did I! Visiting the Met's Cantor Rooftoop is a perfect date spot, an unique experience for a tourist or to just go and relax after a nice walk through Central Park. I would definitely go back if I'm in the area!

FYI: The met balcony bar is located inside the museum but you must be a member to go in! The membership costs around $100 and some change for the whole year and there are higher priced memberships with more "perks" just a quick FYI if you're looking for the bar with the view @ the met!

All I enjoy at the MET Roof Garden are the city views! The food is overpriced and I don't drink. I'm sure it's nice for MET Friday's. There are a younger crowd visiting the museum on Friday's after work. I have enjoyed some artistic experiences while visiting the roof. At one time they had the Hitchcock Bates Hotel piece there. It's the MET so you'll find art everywhere. If you're visiting the MET you should go up to the garden restaurant. Check out the menu. Most important is you enjoy the city view from each direction!

If you're in this museum and the roof is open, you'd be a knucklehead to pass it up. Wanna see some high art? Find the elevator to the roof! Truly unique views of the skyline from above Central Park; maybe even an open martini bar and/or cafe if you're lucky. Museums aren't my thing, but the MET has got quite the hidden gem with their rooftop access; check it out!

NO SHADE, no tables, no lounge area. The security staff are dressed in full suits and most are posted in full sun. I'm confused! The DJ booth and bar staff are shaded with umbrellas* but there is little shade for guests and security staff. This is bare bone most minimum effort of an establishment of the grandeur of the met. The music is great today, the DJ is providing great music. Everybody is too hot to really enjoy it.

Did anyone else have no idea that the Met has a rooftop? I've been to the museum a few times now but this was the first time I ever headed up top. I arrived around 6:30 pm on a Friday and it was poppin' with lines for drinks quite long and all of the seats full. After waiting for our (expensive) frozen drinks my friends and I found a little spot against the rooftop edge to enjoy the view and eventually watch the sunset. This rooftop has unparalleled views of Central Park and Midtown and it was so nice to just stand there and take it all in! This would be a great place to take a break if you're spending a whole day in the Met. That being said it's quite expensive ($16-17 for a very small drink) so I probably won't order again next time I'm here. But I will make an effort to come up again next time I'm visiting the museum!!

I'm so glad I found this place! All because of yelp! Thanks Yelp! The view was spectacular and I only paid $2 for it. I feel kind of bad but not really. To get in the museum it's $25. To get to the rooftop, you pay whatever you want for a ticket to go to the rooftop ONLY. I don't know if anybody else got lost and walked around the met looking for the elevators to go up to fifth floor. I pretty much robbed the met of their $25 museum admission because I saw all galleries on first floor. It was confusing to find the elevators and each gallery was separated and roomed in. I really didn't mean to look but I couldn't help myself. Anyway, the roof top is right on Central Park so you get a nice view of Manhattan and Central Park trees. The view is really amazing! Look at my pictures for proof! They have a bar no food when I was there. Drinks are expensive but you get a nice view.

You can get here either by taking the elevator in the gift shop area by the Greek & Roman Art section on the second floor or by walking up the very narrow stairwell next to the elevator, but the only way back down is through the same stairwell. While this one-way flow of traffic alleviates some elevator congestion, the trip back down isn't very handicap- or wheelchair-friendly. Sorry, Bubbe and Zayde. The roof is open only during the summer months, but don't expect to find an actual garden, as the only plants are shrubs and vines hanging from the wooden trellis by the entrance. The cafe and bar prices aren't much better than the cafeteria's, but at least the cafeteria's ingredients haven't been slow-cooking in UV rays on a rooftop all day. Aside from the widely publicized PsychoBarn exhibit (which is only a facade supported by scaffolding and not an actual barn you can enter), the only other thing to do here is to take in the panoramic view of Central Park (a view which from now until October will be partially obstructed by Cornelia Parker's sculpture). If you go up at noon on a Saturday when it's like a sweaty tourist central, don't expect the romantic sunset experience available on weekday evenings.

My friend and I were shocked by the view from the rooftop. It is one of the best the city has to offer. The frozen mojito is great and super refreshing on a hot day on the roof. I would a bit surprised by the lack of seating. If you are looking for a place to sit down this probably isn't the best place for you.

If you get caught between the moon and New York City, The best that you can do, The best that you can do is fall in love... One of the great pleasures of returning to New York over and over again is discovering something new that I thought was already familiar. I had no idea the Met had a rooftop sculpture garden until a colleague told me not to miss it. Truth be told, I had not been back to the Met in years as I think the breadth of the exhibits just overwhelms me every time. But this time, Jamie W. and I made as much of a beeline as possible to get to the elevator in the back of the museum to get up there. The first thing that strikes you is how popular a hang-out it is for tourists and locals alike. There are queues of people waiting to get $12 cocktails during the late afternoon to early evening hours, while others are just milling about. The second thing is the colorful heavy-metal sculptures by British artist Anthony Caro that look like constructor sets on steroids. The third thing that hits you is one of the most spectacular skyline views you could possibly get of Midtown short of knowing Yoko Ono really well (see photos). It is worth going just for the views. They have expensive drinks but they are super fun and you are paying for the experience of being there. Perfect for the summer.

This might be the Metropolitan Museum of Art's best KEPT secret! You have to go to the far end of the museum and wait in line to take the elevator to the 5th floor which exits onto a rooftop patio with phenomenal views of Manhattan. There are benches to sit on and some chairs-but the tables are actual art depicting people lying in coffin type fixtures...which is a bit "over the top" and "not functional" for the limited space and the amount of people. There are two bar sections and members of the museum have priority to privy table seating along one small corner. There are minimal food options. It was good to see once...decided not to get a drink just see the view and leave. FYI-Elevator Up..must walk down 5 flights...inquiring minds want to know how those that heavily imbibe manage?

What a great addition to a trip to The Met! The museum is kind of big, so it's probably best to ask an employee how to get here and they'll direct you to the correct elevator. The space itself is pretty big. I was there on a Saturday afternoon and it wasn't crowded at all. There were only a few people in line for drinks and there were plenty of places to stand. There's nowhere to sit, but that's okay. It's got such a great view of the park that you want to stand near the bushes around the edge and enjoy it. The drinks aren't priced too terribly. It was $9 for a beer and I believe it was $14 for a cocktail. It's what you'd expect for a rooftop bar at The Met. Definitely stop here before or after you begin exploring the museum. It's a great place to go see even if you don't get any drinks.

The views are great but I expected more from the bar. The cocktails are all pre-made, and they offer some basic beers and wines - small selection. The margarita I had was good enough. After work the place gets predictably jam packed and it's hard to move around in. There is a little bit of art but there were so many people it gets lost, I looked at the sky and the person I was with. The bar is free to enter so it's worth popping in for a moment even if you don't order anything, but if you have the option come on a weekday before 5.

The view is wonderful, but the lines are long and move incredibly slowly. The offerings are not consistent.

How cool is this place?! I absolutely LOVE that you can take a break from perusing the museum to grab a drink on the rooftop. Personally I can only browse sculptures and art work for two or three hours tops without a break in between and this rooftop is the perfect way to grab a drink or some snacks, catch a beautiful view of the skyline, and get some fresh air! I came on a Saturday afternoon in September (the rooftop closes in a month for the winter) and it was SO crowded! To get a photo I had to basically wait on the side for several minutes and then pounce for a good spot. As for drinks, they're a bit pricey but since this bar is a part of the Met it could've been much worse so I was okay with it. I grabbed a Pale Ale for $9. The atmosphere of the rooftop is also really interesting as there are sculptures interspersed around. Don't make the mistake of sitting on one! They're fragile. If you visit the Met before the end of October, definitely stop by the rooftop if just for the view. Hint: the view of the sunset is unparalleled!

- Favorite place in NYC - Nothing quite like embracing Art, Nature, and Wine all at the same darn time. I hear watching the sunset in the summer is quite MAGICAL. One thing the bar is missing is Coffee/tea. Id imagine some people do need to sober up when entering back to the galleries

Love. Have always wanted to come here but could not make it in time for closing the first couple attempts. Third time a wonderful charm; I rank this among the top one or two rooftops in NYC. Views of Central Park, upper east and upper west with many of the most famous notable buildings and architecture. Strolling through The Met followed by rooftop drinks, and a stroll through the park, is definitely a top to do in NYC as a resident or visitor - with a date, friend or family member.

Love, love, love this bar! It's one of my must-sees in New York no matter how many times I go! They are constantly updating the art installation and cocktails featured. I loved the whimsical frozen cocktails and popsicles they featured this past summer. Slightly expensive, about $14/drink. Has amazing, instagrammable views of the city!

Great place to get a great view of the city. Being the only building at this given height in Central Park that will allow for access to the roof, the Met Roof Garden provides a different and amazing perspective over the park. You can gaze all the way from the east side to the west and down all the way to the southern end and see the city scape for all its glory. It does get crowded so expect to see a lot of people bunched together or sitting by the edge snapping away. It's still a lovely place to enjoy the view.

The Met rooftop garden opened in 1987. I know this because I happened to be there that year. My first visit to NYC and I got to be at this (now well-known) place right when it opened. My friend who got me to NYC for the first time somehow got invited to one of the opening parties for this, and then took me! Over the years it's had a slew of different exhibits and shows. All "outside art" or course. But the real draw is the view of the park and city. And of course the martini bar. You can get snacks up there daily. I'm not sure but I think the bar is only open a few evenings a week. But well worth a visit even if the bar is closed. If only for the views.

If you are looking for a one of the best views of NYC you are in the right place. If you try to find great drinks at a good price this is not your best option. You can stay here for a while, looking at the environment but the bar is not the best thing. One tip, go directly to the rooftop and no need to pay por the ticket, just pay one or two dollars and you are in!

Fabulous view of the city and park. Just a shame there aren't more seats. It's a nice break from walking around the gallery and some more chairs would help. Even if it's bench seats around the edge to stay away from the art showcase. But definitely stop here on a trip to the Met.

If you are looking for a great view of New York City, then the Met Rooftop Garden is the place to be! Keep in mind that there is only ONE elevator in the entire museum that takes you up there. Do not be like me where you get lost trying to find it! The elevator is located right next to the museum gift shop (across from the large black and white mural) and can be distinguished by the ropes and security guard surrounding it. Due to limited space, the museum will only allow a certain number of people to go up at a time so be prepared for a line (although it goes by very quickly). The Rooftop Garden Café is like a secret escape -- it is incredibly trendy and provides a spectacular view of the city landscape. It truly leaves you in awe. Due to the limited capacity, it was not too noisy or overcrowded (which I found perfect). Take the time to appreciate the scenery or enjoy a beer ($9), cocktail ($15) or glass of wine ($13) from the bar. The café also offers an assortment of sandwiches, salads, and sweets! I highly recommend and would love to come back for another visit.

Amazing view of Central Park. The "unobstructed" view allows for views East to North. (~270 degrees). I put unobstructed in quotes because it can get quite crowded here so depending on what angle you are trying to capture, it can be somewhat challenging. Your best bet is to arrive first thing in the morning run through the museum to the elevator before people start to trickle in. I think the rooftop is open from May-October so you better hurry up while it's still open. There is a limited menu for drinks and snacks (I uploaded a photo of the menu) but don't expect much (beer - Amstel Light, Heineken, Budweiser, Corona). They do accept credit cards - fyi.

This rooftop has a spectacular view of the city skyline and central park! They feature a sculpture every few months and till October 2016 they're featuring Psychobarn by Cornelia Parker. They have beer, wine and a few cocktails. Not much to choose from. They have snacks too. It would've been lovelier if they had tables but we only hung out there for one drink because there wasn't much to do. Other than that..view is amazing! One tip is you can pay any amount to enter the MET. You can pay a dollar or more then take the elevator to the 5th floor for the rooftop!

The view is unbeatable. Right on the park with the entire city line to the south. 360 degrees. But there is a severe lack of seating and the specialty cocktail with multiple juices mixed together tased like a cold press cucumber juice. Nasty; I wanted a cocktail. Despite all that, daytime cocktails are great here for the ambience

So much potential here, but they fall short in almost every aspect. We were directly put off when they informed us that we would have to buy museum passes to be permitted access to the rooftop bar. They did say that we could choose to pay less than the suggested $25 fee. We took them up on that and paid only a dollar each, but it felt crappy, like we were scamming the museum or something. Anyway one we got offer the shame of underpaying we entered and started the delicate task of searching for the elevator. We wanted to move fast and not linger in the exhibits because we already felt guilty about not paying the full fee, but the museum is like a maze! We had to ask for directions to the rooftop multiple times and finally found the elevator. When we got to the roof we were surprised to find a large astroturf arena with no shade to speak of except for a tiny awning by the entrance where sunstroke sufferers huddled together on the scratchy plastic ground. The line for the bar was 50 yards long and I had to stand in the sun for 20 minutes to get a cocktail. Once I got my drink there was no where to sit so I had to awkwardly hover over someone who looked like she was about to leave. There are two positive aspects to this place. The first being the view. As an out of towner I really enjoyed the view of Manhattan and Central Park. The other saving grace is their strong cocktails. I think they hope to get people drunk enough that they forget how hot and uncomfortable they are. I got "The Greens" a delicious cucumber gin cocktail. It is not at all sweet but very refreshing and STRONG! If this place put some tables with umbrellas out, like alot of them maybe 20 or so, this place would be worlds better. Add another bar and some flowers or bushes and this place would go from a dud to a gem instantly.

Amazing!! After walking around the MET we decided to come up here and check out the rooftop. When I stepped outside my breath was literally taken away. I think I stopped mid sentence because the view is just so stunning. Overlooking the midtown skyline and the gorgeous trees in Central Park it is literally amazing. They have a bar stocked with some specialty cocktails, wine and sandwiches. The prices are not too bad as they are the typical prices of the bars in the area. They have benches so you can chill, relax and enjoy the open view. This roof deck is seasonal so it will be closing at the end of this month (October). If you missed it this year I highly recommend you check it out next year!

Really nice views of Central Park. The food and drinks are overpriced and could use more seating.
