Nicole was absolutely phenomenal!!! It was one of our best dining experiences as we started at 6pm and closed out the place at 11:30pm?! While we are very sorry to keep the staff late, we thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated Nicole and the entire staff for being so accommodating. 20 glasses of red wine later, we managed to finally leave and safely return home. Definitely be back and more mindful of the time in the future. Thank you so much!!

Google
The staff made all the difference — they knew we were driving from New York and welcomed us with amazing service, totally worth the tip. The food was 10/10, everything clean, and the location is perfect for a stop in D.C. Great spot for families or groups, and the cheesecake was spectacular.

Our server Nicole was amazing. So friendly and helpful. She was so sweet. Made the experience so special. It was our first time there and loved the food.

Our meal was everything we hoped for. Deliciously seasoned and served elegantly. Our waitress and other staff went above and beyond to provide excellent service. Highly recommend!

I wanted to do something chill for my birthday dinner, and this was perfect. My girlfriend and I sat at the bar, Michael our bartender was attentive and funny. 😁 They brought out 4 types of bread, I love bread and I tried a little of each one, and the pumpernickel was ok, but I would pass. We had the lobster/crab cake❤️, truffle parm fries, no truffle flavor at all😬, tuna tartar👍🏽, scallops with risotto❤️, sea bass❤️, and he brought dessert when he found out it was my birthday🙏🏽🥰. A flourless chocolate cake, dense and eh, mini cheese cake, crème brûle 👍🏽with berries and whipped cream. We shared everything, didn’t finish anything except main dishes. I think for the prices, I’d rather be Wow-ed, but I wasn’t disappointed. I heard the steak is very good.

Google
Old school steak house located steps away from the Capitol. Menu contains usual fare such as dry-aged steaks, shrimp cocktail, calamari and creamed spinach. Ideal place for a power-lunch or if you are looking for a nice sit-down restaurant while touring nearby museums!

While visiting Washington we stopped for a mid day snack. Lucia was above average customer service. Very knowledgeable and courteous. Cheese cake was amazing.

Google
Excellent steakhouse. Pricey, but great food and service. we had 3 different meals and 3 sides and everything was delicious. Feels like an old time steakhouse from the 60s. 4 stars because of price only. we did have 2 desserts that were also awesome.

Yelp
If you go to a steakhouse and don't get a steak, were you ever really there? These are the mysteries of Yelp. On this day the spouse and I were checking out a few places to host an event. One option was The Capital Grille (TGC). The staff were very nice and answered all of our questions by showing us the various setups they can provide for the various number of guests along with menu options. Very nice staff and at no time did it seem like an upsell of trying to push certain unneeded options on us. Since we were there why not have lunch. It was a Saturday and surprisingly very empty there. Speaking with one of the managers, she mentioned that Monday through Wednesday was the busiest times due to its proximity to the US Capitol. Whenever I see calamari on the menu it is a must for me to try. I have to say fried calamari is a very hard thing to mess up and with this being TGC you have some expectations. The expectations were met. I am not the biggest fan of banana peppers coming with my calamari but at times it works. Glad this was one of those times. The menu is a bit scaled down especially for lunch time. Here is where the dilemma came to me. I wanted to try their steak, but I had it the night before and I am a burger connoisseur. The burgers here I believe are the same as at Capital Burger since they are owned by the same organization. Capital Burger gets great reviews, and I went with the burger (medium rare) with duck fat fries. The hype is real. The burger was cooked at a perfect medium rare with just the right amount of pink. Fries came out very hot. I was not disappointed by my choice as I see myself coming back here anyway soon. I have to say that wanting to go back to a place in the DMV with so many options here says plenty. Prices are very reasonable, and the service is great. Located within a 3-5-minute walk of the Archives-Navy memorial metro stop this is a great place to checkout.

Yelp
We came here for our wedding anniversary. We were seated immediately and it was very pleasant, the quiet part of where they sat us was very pleasant, and our waiter greeted us with two glasses of champagne and threw heart confetti on the table which was too cute . They started us off with a huge basket of assorted breads like a baguette, matzo bread, dinner rolls, all different types which was awesome. We got the mini crab cakes for appetizer. I'm from Maryland and I always try a crab cake to just see how it compares to Faidleys crab cakes (iykyk ), and they were ok I'm a snob about crab cakes so don't take my word for it. I got the rockfish with pearl couscous which was good! The couscous was a Mediterranean flavor and it stood out and tastes delicious. My husband got the Kansas City steak, it was medium rare and to be honest it was okay. It was not worth the price I would skip the steaks unless you don't care about money and just want a steak. We were certainly full by the end of the dinner, and they surprised us with an anniversary tiramisu and chocolate cheesecake with happy anniversary written in chocolate. So cute. Definitely a date night restaurant or a special occasion type of spot mainly because of the price.

Yelp
Very nice experience. The staff very attentive. Took care of all experiences and needs with class. Special touch for our anniversary.

Yelp
This was amazing. Admittedly not someplace I can afford to frequent but as a special event celebrating my daughter's birthday and my upcoming wedding it was the perfect destination. Started with the Grand Plateau which had enough seafood in it to be a full dinner for two but equally filling as an appetizer for four. Two of us had scallops, one NY Strip and I had the filet mignon (strip was Kona crusted, my filet was with bearnaise. All were excellent. They even did a special happy birthday played dessert for my daughter. With a bottle of wine we were at almost $700 without the tip. But totally worth it. Again, I'm not used to dropping this kind of money for "dinner" but it's a great place, nice environment - nice without being stuffy or pretentious. Will have good memories.

Yelp
My fiancé brought me here for a belated birthday celebration and completely surprised me with my ring! As we were seated, I excitedly told our waiter.... whose name, I believe, was David (forgive me if I'm mistaken; he was an absolute gem)--that I couldn't wait to have the coconut cream pie. After going over the menu with him, we placed our orders. When he returned, he walked right into the moment my fiancé was opening the ring box, and I was already in tears lol! A short while later, he came back with two glasses of champagne, our dinner, and an assortment of desserts to celebrate with us (see pictures - it's at least 3). To be honest, I don't even remember what we ordered... everything was absolutely delightful and delicious. A perfect 10 across the board for service, food, and ambiance. It was pure perfection. It made for great leftovers the next day too!! Maybe you'll see us again for our anniversary or birthdays this year!

Yelp
Great location, easy to drop in or make reservations online. I was able to get a spot at the bar the evening I visited, without a prior reservation. The bar has comfy bar chairs and a nice ambiance. The bar tenders are seasoned professionals who make great drinks and wine recommendations. I actually had calamari and their famous Caesar salad. The salad was perfect! The right about of dressing/cheese ratio and the calamari was flash fried and not overcooked, spicy twist and very delicious! After the appetizers and more wine, I was too full to have one of their epic steaks. I have tried the steak menu on other visits which are always cooked to perfection with one of the best Bernaise sauces for a steak house chain. Great location, service and excellent food even for the higher price point. It is worth it for the consistent experience when in this area of DC.
google avatar

Nichelle B.

Yelp
Perfect for a fancy lunch. I had the Cobb Salad which was great. I think they use guanciale instead of bacon. The steak was cooked perfectly. They also have this really delicious homemade grapefruit soda. I heard they make bomb martinis, but I have yet to experience one. The restaurant gets pretty busy for lunch, and sometimes the staff can be a bit overwhelmed.

Yelp
My second time visiting this location and it was just as good as the first! I went with a group of friends on a Thursday night with a 7pm reservation. The service is impeccable! I was greeted warmly when I walked in and sat at the bar until my party arrived. Jared was our server and was amazing. He assisted us with a detailed overview of the Generous Pour, appetizers, mains, and sides. We started with truffle fries, which were good. We all ordered different steaks and sides. All were good! We came for the Generous Pour which featured 7 different wines, ranging from white to red. An amazing deal for $50!

Yelp
Service: Top notch. Emily, our server was friendly and funny. I can't say enough about how she was able to balance attentiveness with letting us talk and eat. She is definitely an asset to The Capital Grille. Also the persons refilling water and bussing tables were very professional and courteous. Food: Everything was really good. I can be petty and picky, but I'm finding it hard to fault anything. The one minor thing was my burger was closer to a medium well than a medium. A friend's bone in strip was medium well and not medium. The flavor and presentation were great though. I would say the burger should have had just a tad more seasoning, but the meat did speak for itself. Ambiance: Intimate. Not somewhere you would go to have wings and yell at a TV screen. It was relaxing. Very nice with dim lighting.

Yelp
Excellent food with a variety of menu items, ranging from burgers to caviar to steaks. Friendly, efficient service. Menu items are available at a variety of price points. Dressing up is appropriate as is coming in from a day of sightseeing in casual tourist attire. Decor is old fashioned and delightful with antique art. Downfall: bathrooms are in the basement, which is difficult for elders.

Yelp
Couldn't get a lunch reservation on a crazy busy DC weekend -- so we sat at the bar and had a fabulous lunch! Barkeep Mike was superb as were our lobster and steak salads!!!

Yelp
Been here twice. Good food. Akim made us feel like family. Definitely coming back when we return to DC

Yelp
The NY Strip was cooked superbly and the calamari was excellent. Our server was attentive but not intrusive.

Yelp
Disclaimer: My lasted visit was in May 2024, which I highlighted with a picture of U.S. Senator Ted Cruz. Since 2007 I have been patronizing this particular location of The Capital Grille on Pennsylvania Avenue off and on either on my visits to or when living in Washington, D.C. Please excuse the delay in ever reviewing this establishment it's just I never thought my review was something of importance nor desired. The Capital Grille on Pennsylvania Avenue is the premier, consistent, low key elegant place in D.C. If you are looking for excellent service, outstanding, fresh food, ect. look no further than The Capital Grille on Pennsylvania Avenue. Reservations for a table is recommended. However the bar area is come first serve. As an individual who tends to dine solo this establishment is welcoming. I appreciate that the staff from the host, waiters, bartenders, ect. engage me in respectful conversation. At times as a solo individual I tend to be overlooked at places versus an individual who appears with an entourage. Although I have over the years have had other items on their menu I tend to gravitate towards the chop salad. Having had chop salad at different restaurants around the country their chop salad is the absolute best. The lettuce is always at a crisp and the ingredients are fresh with a dressing to the side. To drink a must have for me is water and my decaf americano following my meals. This is one the few places where I have entertained a glass of wine or two. The place has an extensive list of wines and has access to wine that may not be listed. Furthermore The Capital Grille on Pennsylvania Avenue tends to attract some the individuals you may see on C-Span for you political junkies and historians. For the most part I tend to leave people alone because everyone deserves privacy especially when enjoying a men. However on my latest visit people were approaching me and starting conversations, which led to the picture with the U.S. Senator. Overall The Capital Grille on Pennsylvania Avenue is definitely a place over the years that has demonstrated consistency and excellency in fine dining. This establishment I found to be reasonably in price and forgiving in dress code. As for myself I have always had an enjoyable experience placing my best foot forward in the wardrobe department and enter with an open pallet when comes to the cuisine. Look forward to a future visit involving the presence of well prepared food and quality conversations.

Yelp
My boyfriend took me here for my birthday! I love a good steak house. The food and service were amazing. We ordered the 22oz bone in ribeye steak cooked medium! It was cooked perfectly and seasoned to perfection. I think the star of the show was the creamed spinach. Best creamed spinach I've had at a steak house. As soon as I left I was on Reddit trying to find the recipe. Capital Grille made my birthday absolutely amazing. From the host to our server to valet everyone was perfect.

Yelp
Nice place and staff is always pleasant. Nice and clean inside and outside. The food is pretty good I don't have any favs except the mint lemonade lol the calamari was pretty good but not great unfortunately.

Yelp
Capital Grille is an upscale steakhouse chain. It's a good fine dining experience with great service and delicious food. They do a generous pour event every summer, you have the option to try seven wines for $50 with the purchase of an entree. I would highly recommend trying it, it's perfect for group dinner. The steak was cooked perfectly and the Oscar style option which adds crab meat and asparagus is a great addition. For sides the lobster Mac and cheese and mashed potatoes were amazing.
google avatar

Kelly P.

Yelp
Although this place is actually a chain, it is pretty fabulous! Inside was warm and cozy; we opted to sit at the bar instead of getting a table and that was fun. The taxidermy buffalo & deer heads were dressed up with Santa hats for Christmas, and our bartender was cool. We got wayyyy too much food, and it was all lovely! We got the sprouts & mushroom sides as starters. They were fabulous! And the bread was super good, too. For my main I got the Seared Tuna which was delicious & we shared Mashed potatoes (though, maybe I'm the only one who ate them). Everything really was great and I'm glad we came by.

What else can be said its the Capital grill at the countries capitol fantastic location down the street from the white house outstanding service old school upscale decor cozy yet private and you can have your own beverage locker the food is outstanding as is the wine list all first rate a must do when in DC

Yelp
Came here for dinner tonight. My first thought, upon entering, was that this was the place government types came to smooze: very energetic, lots of older people, younger alpha males drinking a lil too much, cursing...and hard-working staff putting up w/ it. This bar is not nearly as sexy as the Capitol Grille in Tysons but the food is decent and the jazz is nice. In-Fashion cocktail - boozy...a straightforward Old Fashioned. Blackberry Bourbon Smash - Delicious. Nice balance between sweet and sour - much better than the version I tried in Tysons. Tuna Tartar- tender Tuna but bland. Wouldn't order again. Prosciutto-wrapped mozzarella - tasty! The accompanying sauce really makes the dish. Heather, my server, couldn't have been better.

Stacey V.

Yelp
Once upon a time, two people went to The Capital Grille for their anniversary. This was before everyone had a camera phone - and definitely before smartphones. The thoughtful folks at TCG had a point-and-shoot camera and a printer, and they sent the couple home with a lovely memento. Seventeen years later, the couple returned to the same cozy Wine Room with that photograph and enjoyed yet another phenomenal meal. Surf and turf. Scallops. Prosciutto-wrapped mozzarella! And what dinner at TCG would be complete without lobster mac and cheese?! Thank you to Oscar and Kelly and the whole team at TCG - especially the unseen folks in the kitchen who made our anniversary meal such an absolute pleasure!
google avatar

Yelp
Food was tasty. Summer wine event was a party!! Service was amazing, our waiter was great! Ambiance was amazing since we sat outside and had a view of the capital.
google avatar

Ryen W.

Yelp
Food is good. Not worth the price though. Customer service is pretty good though. Ambiance is a little outdated. Overall, it's pretty good depending on your mood.

Eric W.

Yelp
The food and service was amazing! Best lamb I've had in years. You definitely need to order the creamed spinach!

Steve W.

Yelp
Solid food, the service was average. The Cobb Salad was good for an upscale lunch. I would return.
google avatar

Yelp
The truffle fries are too hard, the best place I ate truffle fries from "The Capital Grille" was in Ponte Vedra Florida
google avatar

Yelp
The food was amazing. Very Tasty and filling. The lobster Mac & cheese was so good. I think I had a Mango mojito. Strong but manageable.

Yelp
Classic traditional steakhouse in our nations capital was the evenings destination for a birthday celebration. Our server was professional and quite friendly. Enjoyed the Steak Tartar and the crab cake as appetizers. The steak tartar was accompanied by toasted bread crisps capers, white onion and diced egg. Seasoned exceptionally. Simply iconic in flavor. The crab cake was full of blue crab pieces and not just sea legs. On to the entrees- two strip steaks, one filet and a filet and cold water lobster tail. All prepared exactly as ordered. Pricey for a steak and a plate - no frills, but a true medium rare delivered as a medium rare! The Au poir sauce and fresh peppercorns were a real treat mine. The Au gratins were excellent and there was hardly room for the pork belly Brussels sprouts. A great experience at this - the 3rd oldest in this chain. This is how steakhouses are meant to be enjoyed. I highly recommend The Capital Grille only blocks away from the Whote House
google avatar

Laura J.

Yelp
I've been to many capital Grille locations and this one is by far the worst Some thing were out of their control like the extremely loud big mouth lady at one table. I was hoping management would ask her to lower her voice because it was thinking it for the other patrons Apart from the disruptive patron the food quality was poor. How do you mess up Cesar salad ? Why are the truffle fries soggy? The crab cakes were gross as well. I hated my meal and the atmosphere.
google avatar

Jadyn M.

Yelp
The Capital Grille is a classic nice steakhouse. With elegant, fine-dining decorations and ambience, you feel fancy just being there. Everything is delicious, from the cherrywood smoked bacon, to whatever steak you order cooked to perfection, to the irresistible lobster Mac and cheese. The au poivre sauce is a nice addition to any steak and the au gratin potatoes also make a great side. This is a traditional steakhouse in which you order the steak and then order sides separately to share. The desserts are equally delicious and a nice sweet treat to end the meal. The service is the quality of what you would expect in a fine dining restaurant -- polite and attentive.

Yelp
We came here as a small group for a surprise birthday party for my son... We stopped at the bar before being sat at our table. The bartender and experience was decent. They have a nice cocktail menu and a huge wine list, with some decent by-the-glass offerings. Once sat at the table (which they jazzed up with sparkles, but no bday card, like we've experienced at the Tysons location when going for special events in the past), our server was great... very friendly and attentive, as well as outgoing and accommodating. We started with the Nueske's Cherrywood Smoked Bacon with Korean BBQ and their Tuna Tartare with Avocado, Mango and Sriracha and bother were fresh and tasty... the bacon is highly recommended!! Next course was some salad, two of us split the Wedge with Bleu Cheese and Smoked Bacon, which was fresh and tasty. Love the smokey flavors of bleu cheese with bacon! For dinner, they were offering an American Wagyu strip, as well as an 8ox lobster tail, so we had to get both of those. We also got their Kona-Crusted Dry Aged Bone-In NY Strip with Shallot Butter and their Dry Aged NY Strip au Poivre with Courvoisier Cream and the temps of our steaks were all spot on! The flavors were great and that Wagyu was OUTSTANDING! Dessert was excellent as they made a huge platter of incredible sweets for the table. Overall, it was another really nice experience... Highly recommend stopping in for a nice steakhouse diner!

Yelp
If I could give it 10 stars, I would. By far one of the best dinning experiences I've ever had. The staff was amazing, cocktails top notch, our waiter recommended the perfect bottle of wine to accompany our dinner. The filet cut like room temperature butter. the atmosphere was classy yet not stuffy. Just an overall perfect experience.
google avatar

Yelp
Left the National Art Gallery and stopped for a quick drink and snack w/ my hot wife. Had a Stoli Doli (amazing!!) and the lobster crab cake. All of it was amazing.

Rod O.

Yelp
Everything is perfect, including the waiter. The rack of lamb is fat and tender. The Seabass is fat and dripping in butter. You need a reservation. Ask for Akim.
google avatar

Lindsay F.

Yelp
Talk about class. This place has it up the wazoo & rightfully so. The service here is impeccable. Everything we got (various cuts of steak) was tasty & they even brought us champagne & dessert for our engagement, which was a nice touch (& surprise)! This is the kind of place you'd take family in town, to celebrate a special occasion, or if you just want to have a nicer dining experience.
google avatar

Anthony C.

Yelp
I'm not sure where to start. I have been to the Greenbrier and this food reminded me of the times there. Everything is al-a-cart so be ready to spend a little more to have a wonderful experience. Their bread basket was delicious and the sides were absolutely amazing. We had the brussel sprouts with bacon, Mac and cheese with bacon, cream corn, filet mignon, NY strip and the special was Halibut. The server we had made the place welcoming and was polite and personable.
google avatar

Rebecca K.

Yelp
So delicious! I had a steak salad that was out of this world! My husband enjoyed a cheeseburger that was also very delicious. We sat the bar area and service was amazing and extremely friendly. If I do come back to DC , I will make sure to eat Hera again!!!
google avatar

Arvand A.

Yelp
Great steak Frites. Steak was cooked medium rare like I asked and the fries were nice and crispy

Yelp
This is the second Capital Grille I have been too and the service and food do not disappoint. Consistency is key especially varying from location to location. I would love to stop in here again as well as any other future location. Our Uber driver said this is the place the politicians go but this might be the one thing they have good taste in-kidding! We saw a lot of families and celebrations (birthdays) around us. The drinks are well made. I also feel like you get a lot of bang for your buck with the food and the prices are more than fair. If you leave here still hungry, you're not doing something right. They should be rolling you out. Glad this time around I had room for dessert! Excellent view at night and even during the day of the capitol building from outside the restaurant.
google avatar

Ahnae S.

Yelp
Let me start by saying everything about this restaurant is AMAZING! My reservation was sat immediately and our waiter was quick to order our drinks. We decided to do the generous pour which was a great price for the amount of wine you get. You're able to request the ones you liked most and I do not suggest drinking and driving after this! The lamb chops were cooked to perfection, the lobster Mac and cheese was the best I've had(I've tried almost all of them and have never liked it), the Brussels sprouts are a must have, and the potatoes were good as well. The desserts we ordered are not pictured but the cheesecake is to live for! Lastly, the ambiance was so elegant and relaxing. I give it a 10/10 and I would be back!
google avatar

Adam C.

Yelp
While so many of Washington area restaurants have been forced to close, the Capital Grille continues. This is a great place for a four martini lunch. The ambiance is upscale and the service generally quick. I recommend the steak over salad and then you can claim you had your greens as you wash it down with your martinis. The steak is decent.
google avatar

Mike W.

Yelp
I just don't get it. As DC residents we walked down to the national gallery of art for the Paris 1874 exhibit. After we finished we decided to have some lunch here. We sat at the bar and ordered terrible martinis....then we thought let's try the food. The field green salad was well composed with Italian dressing that tasted like it came out of a bottle of Wish Bone Italian off a shelf at Safeway.....terrible. The Ceasars salad dressing tasted like salty water....again, a huge miss. My other half ordered what was possibly the worst margarita he ever had.....I saw the writing on the wall and avoided another cocktail. The onion soup was essentially beef broth, caramelized onions, and melted Swiss. At this point we decided to try one last thing. The tuna tartar did not disappoint and is the only reason I gave this awful restaurant a 2 star review. Why this spot carries over a 4 star rating is just beyond me.....I'd never go here again.

Robi P.

Yelp
Classic DC stop! At lunch the Cobb Salad is the best thing one you will eat! The grapefruit soda is so good as well. If you are looking for a sweet treat, do yourself a favor with the coconut cream pie.

Yelp
best meal i've had in maybe forever. delicious fat piece of sea bass, lump crab cocktail, brussels sprouts and scallops were all perfectly cooked, presented, and delicious. im a ny'er and it's hard to blow me away but this place did. server Nate was first rate, and we were not rushed nor harassed. i would go back for sure. they brought us a coconut cream pie for dessert and it was also just out of this world. i would DEFINITELY return here and order the same exact entrees. highly recommend!

Sharon G.

Yelp
This was my first time dinning in, I usually order takeout , we were celebrating my daughter birthday!!! They spoiled us, the food was so good and the portions allowed for 2 servings let the seasonings set in Yumm.. The staff from the top to the bottom are always polite and professional. My daughter may treat me on Birthday in December. I'm ready Love this place.

Alex J.

Yelp
Amazing food, large portions Filet mignon, lobster mac and mashed potatoes were great. Yummy bread served upon arrival. Mocktail passion fruit mojito was amazing! No wait, good and fast service. Quiet, relaxing atmosphere.
