Google
Excellent cheeses and meats. Great service. Asked the gentleman to surprise us with 3 cheese 2 meat monger board. Everything on it was excellent. Way more than we were expecting.

Google
We loved trying all the cheeses!!! They also have fresh bread and wine which is amazing. I can’t wait to come back!

Google
I love The Cheese Shop!! Such a great place to get all your apretivo needs. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. They let you sample before you buy. Wonderful selection of meats, cheeses, jarred goodies and more. Definitely try it, you won’t be disappointed!

Google
I stopped to purchase cheese/meats for a charcuterie board. They spent a good amount of time with me to curate the perfect board. They were very knowledgeable and their love of cheese resonated in the service they provided! In addition to the cheese/meats, they had a great selection of accompaniments (crackers, jams, olives, nuts). What a great place to have in Des Moines!

Google
Incredible selection of cheese and wines! Stopped by for a board and ended up leaving with a selection of delicious cheeses to share for the holidays! Great gift Idea and they curate larger boards for parties. Shoutout to Maggie for curating our experience and giving a slice of the hospitality Des Moines has to offer.

Google
Lots of cheese to choose from and a good vibe. Eat in or take cheese to go. "Cheese monger" charcuterie board was a big hit ( with lots of good meats, spreads and odds & ends). I'd give it 6 stars if Google would let me.

Melinda

Google
Came here after trying their restaurant on Ingersoll, specifically to buy their pepper jelly. I'm kind of obsessed with cheese and was excited that they gave out samples. I lived in France for awhile and have been searching for a specific cheese for quite some time. They didn't have it but did inform me that they are getting something very similar this week. I'm extremely impressed by their knowledge of foreign cheeses and equally impressed by their inventory. I bought a few pounds of cheese, some house-stuffed olives and peppers, and left happy. The wine selection looked pretty extensive. The space is pretty small but they've managed to get a few tables in one corner of the shop for small groups to get together. Pretty neat concept. Reminds me of being in Europe.

Google
Easily one of the best experiences I've had I. Des Moines. Incredible and knowledgeable staff, welcoming atmosphere, and great products. The colleague that recommended this place said "it was a slice of France." She was spot on. Go here. Don't hesitate. You cannot regret it.

Yelp
This place is incredible. Came in last minute for a charcuterie board, selection was A+ and they have a MILLION options let them craft the perfect board and have a glass of wine while you wait. I'll definitely be back next time I'm in town. Service was really good and knowledgeable.

Carol P.

Yelp
Excellent find! Lots of great choices. We bought fresh blue cheese and white cheddar.

Yelp
This is the place to go if you love cheese. the people that work there are so knowledgeable and are able to find you the perfect cheese for your pallet. The cheese board with meats is a perfect meal, snack, decadent treat yourself. If you're unsure what you want, you can trust the guys behind the counter. Every time I'm in Iowa, I make sure to come to this place. They have great pairings of wine, and the accoutrements are all you need. It's small, but feels cozy and welcoming. I love the ambience of this place, I love the cheese, I love the meats, I love the chocolate, I love everything about it..

Yelp
Cute lil place. Just join their cheese club so have to see how that goes. The cheese club is quite affordable if you do pick up locally. The service was very nice and had a lot of staff to help. There wasn't much place to stand so it got crowded.

Yelp
I'm visiting out of town from San Diego, CA, and I didn't know that I'd be going with my family to The Cheese Shop today. The staff was very friendly was very generous with the cheese samples they gave us and did not hesitate to share with us top notch cheeses from their collection. The lighting and wood interior also lent itself to a cool experience. The alcohol selection was very nice as well and will follow up on the cider that I purchased. We are looking forward to the cheese that we purchased today. Will return again when I visit Iowa again. 5/5 Highly Recommend

Yelp
I Was visiting Family from Northern Ca and stopped by the Cheese Shop and loved there selection and quick suggestions!

Yelp
Nice little cheese shop with plenty to choose from. Some cheeses are local, some domestic and some not. If you're looking for Velveeta then this isn't the place, although they coukd steer you in the direction of a much better alternative. The women working there were super friendly and so knowledgeable about all of their cheese. They also are a small cafe with a few options should you decide to eat there.

Yelp
We stopped by to dine in and try different items from their menu. We ordered the Monger board, which was very delicious gave us an opportunity to try a few things. We also ordered the raclette sandwich and a hot cheese, which I was surprised did it come with any crackers or bread. The prices are a little high, but the quality was very good. The staff were patient with us to explain items on the menu. It is not a big menu, but it is a fun experience. We did not purchase any cheese from the case, but it was amusing to see people come through and spend hundreds of dollars on cheese. I don't know if this will become a regular place for us, but fun to try now and then.

Yelp
Happy Birthday! A cheery crowd and lots of corks popping. Definitely a well liked neighborhood hangout. I had a sandwich of some kind and wished I specified to warm the sandwich to really bring out the soft buttery Brie. Check it out, there just aren't many places like it around. I didn't have any wine but I'm sure they have a nice upper end selection.
google avatar

Yelp
Absolutely love this place! The staff is always friendly and very knowledgeable. The food and drink selection is always has something new. We tend to eat out most nights so it's nice to always have something new to try.

Yelp
Acorn fed pork? Yes, PLEASE! Oh my goodness, you cannot imagine pork that the fat lusciously melts in your mouth like acorn fed pork does until you are eating it. Little slices of heaven is what I prefer to refer to this as. My cousins and I came here for a late lunch. Naturally we had a terrible time choosing what to get because the menu is extensive and everything sounded delicious. We settled on: 1. Burrata Toast - the fan favorite. Crispy french bread with sublime burrata topped with sprinkles of salt and pepper 2. Cheese Plate - 3 different types of cheese with local bread. Delish 3. Quince Paste - this is a must for me with cheese and this version was soft and creamy versus harder slices as I usually see 4. Fig Spread - also a must with cheese 5. Marcona Almonds - another must for me with cheese 6. Country Pate - not a fan favorite. It had an odd metallic flavor that we didn't love 7. Creme brulee cheese - this was a unique soft cheese with a flavor not unlike brie that was topped with vanilla sugar and bruleed. A lovely combo of savory and sweet 8. Lard cooked potato chips - not as earth shattering as I had hoped The other negative was that our waitress took our order and then disappeared. We would have ordered more wine but didn't have anyone come by our table and by the time they did, we were already done with our food. The runners were nice though and explained our dishes well. They also have a fabulous selection of local honeys and I got some delicious candy too. Overall a cute place but they need some work on their customer service.
google avatar

Eric J.

Yelp
Great place. I think what we enjoyed the most was your willingness to explain where everything came from that was on our board. You knew the best pairings. We will be back!!

Yelp
Would I like a sample? Ohhhh, I don't know, it's such a difficult decision. What's that you say? A complimentary hunk o' Portland bleu washed in a pear wine mixture? Alright, alright, you don't have to pull my leg. From the adorably friendly "cheese man" behind the counter to the diverse collection of chutneys, jams, and jellies, this place is a little slice of heaven (especially for those of us who at any given time have 5+ different types of cheese in the fridge.) I was on a mission to create a cheese board during my visit, so I enjoyed being able to sample and find a mixture of options ranging from sharp and gritty to smooth and nutty that would please a variety of palates. And, if you're on a search for Iowa-based queso, The Cheese Shop is the place to go (easily spotted 10+ local options). I rounded out my cheese board by purchasing a ridiculously delicious spicy plum chutney (I'm stocking up next time), fig cake loaf and fresh bread from La Mie next door. My next visit is bound to be one of two scenarios: pulling up a stool at the bar to tip back some vino with a generous slab of Iowa cheese in front of me or 2.) attending one of their fondue nights (only $30 for 2 people - not shabby!). **Note: the strip mall this business is located in makes for an ideal afternoon mosy - oil/vinegar/liqueur shop along with fresh breads and pastries from La Mie.

Yelp
OMFG! This sweet, sweet little place rocks outstanding Charcuterie and cheese! Des Moines is a happenin' little town and this precious gem certainly helps cement that impression. Killer salads and wonderful Charcuterie - what a find! Tip: Go off the menu and ask for their custom, Chef-selected Charcuterie board - see pic.

Yelp
I just walked away from my first visit to The Cheese Shop of Des Moines. Pried myself away, kicking and screaming, actually... The shop is not just filled with delicious collection of cheeses, it was also filled with a great sense of excitement, enthusiasm, and great ideas for using and appreciating the options available. Coupled with some solid knowledge about their goods and a healthy dose of locally produced items... ah, I could have hung out all morning in this foodie haven. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience of waiting my turn at the counter (a smidge crowded though it was) and look forward to my next excuse to stop by and see what new and interesting wheel has been rolled in.

Rachel H.

Yelp
Adore this place! Staff is very friendly and knowledgable - I don't know anything about charcuterie but they always bring me something amazing. Great local & global selections served fresh. Huge fan of the jams/preserves and house-made crackers also. My partner dreams about their grilled cheese options - huge portions of melty goodness. The mac and cheese is also lovely. Some of their specialty cocktails have been hit or miss, but I find that easy to overlook. They use small local sources wherever they can - I love the circle of support they've built for other small businesses. Cannot recommend this place enough.
google avatar

Yelp
This is my go to place to satisfy my cheese / charcuterie cravings! They have fondue for 2 for $15 or for 4 for $30 on Wednesdays from 2-7. It's a steal (they give you unlimited bread and pickles). Their Mac n cheese is delicious and this site thinks they're the best in Iowa: https://www.google.com/amp/www.purewow.com/food/best-mac-and-cheese-in-America%3Famphtml%3Dtrue. I can confirm it's great however I cannot confirm it's the. Eat in Iowa--as I'm new in the area. :) Their banh mi has a generous amount of pate, so if you love pate like ME--it's a must try! Their service is always extraordinary.

Yelp
Literally walked into a meat and cheese heaven! I cannot believe it took me so long to come here! The toasties (their grilled cheese) choices, sandwiches and of course the meat and cheese board selections were amazing. The atmosphere is literally, a Cheese Shop. Walk in to the coolers housing the cheeses and the many selections of jams and spreads. It's a very small shop and this is why they are expanding to Ingersoll with a more restaurant like atmosphere. They would like the keep this shop more like a retail shop. Their new location will have fondue every night. The service was 4/5. Very helpful and knowledgeable. Although our server did forget to bring us some spreaders after we asked a couple of times but she finally brought them. Trust me though, the Food was so good that we forgot about the spreaders for a good ten minutes at least! The Food: Toastie with fig spread add-on 5/5 Delicious with the right mix and amount of cheeses and the fig spread was phenomenal! Toasted Ham and Cheese 3-1/2 out of 5 This sandwich was tasty and plentiful. I just didn't think that it stood out much from any other sandwich that I could get elsewhere with similar meats and fillings. Meat and cheese board with Pate and prosciutto 5/5 I wish I could tell you what Cheese came with the board but I was too into everything to care! But the Pate was delicious and done just right. Tomato Jam 3/5 Not my favorite but wasn't bad at all! The Pate, fig jam, and pepper jam were so good that I came back the next day to buy jars of the jams and a chunk of the Pate! Will definitely be back time and time again!

Yelp
Small shop with a huge selection of cheeses from around the world! If you cannot decide- guys at the counter will help you, they will let you try whatever you are thinking! It would be a nice place to come in when it's nice and warm outside. You can get a wine samples and charcuterie board and enjoy!

Yelp
What an amazing, fun store. GREAT selection, old favorites, but no matter where you have been, you will see something you haven't. Orders a Cheese Board and was amazing, bought some other assorted stuff, was all top notch.
google avatar

Renee M.

Yelp
I love this little spot. Both times I've been here I have ordered the Monger's Choice Platter, whilst letting staff know that I like ultra funky, ripe cheese, and the weirder the better. They did not disappoint either time. This is one of those eating experiences that takes longer than usual, because it's worth it to savor every single bite. Each piece on the board both stands out alone and pairs well with all the rest. It's a really fun array of things to eat! Also, the staff are amazing! On our second visit, the girl helping us was actually studying dairy as a science. Or was it cheese, specifically? I can't quite remember and I wish I could so that I could give her the credit, but she was a lovely human and I remember being impressed by her relevant knowledge. If you're not there to sit and linger, they've got a really impressive selection of cheeses and things to buy for take-home, too! I love it here!
google avatar

Yelp
Who doesn't like Cheese??? No one. duh. I'm sure lactose intolerant people love cheese too, but we may not love what comes next from them. Price: Look to spend around $10-15 per dish. Probably another $10 for a glass of wine. Parking: Lot in the back & small lot in the front Food: Mac & Cheese - I hate to admit it, but this beauty looked more delicious than it actually was. It actually came out kinda liquidy which is weird for mac and cheese made with real cheese. A little sweet too. And super oily, yes from the cheese, but much added extra oil from the taste of it. Cheese platter + baguette - It's probably just preference, but they cut the cheese Service - slow Overall, I wasn't comfortable in this place because it was super hot and stuffy. The food was ok. I guess it's a cool concept but I would think twice before coming here again.

Yelp
The Cheese Shop is a one of a kind spot in Des Moines. They offer a massive selection of cheeses and meats with extremely helpful staff who help in selecting the perfect cheeses for a cheese board, or just finding the perfect cheese to snack on! They also offer other things for a cheese board like fig jam, Marcona almonds and even prosciutto. It's a one stop shop to create a show stopping cheese board for your next weekend dinner party. They also have lovely sandwiches and bites to have for a meal available in the small seating area. It's a wonderful place to grab a hot pressed sandwich and relax. Their staff is very knowledgeable on the products and are extremely helpful in finding just the right thing! The Cheese Shop is the perfect stop to get awesome cheeses in Des Moines!

Yelp
The cheese shop is your go to location for foodies and drink connoisseur. I had the pleasure of partaking in some of their hot toasties and the mac and cheese. Unfortunately these items are moving to their second location called the cheese bar. But fret not good friends , the cheese shop still have a plethora of goodies to offer. Ranging from a vast selection of wines and cheeses ,to specialty beers and cold meats. You owe it to your tastebuds to stop here....Cheers!

Yelp
Where do I even start with this place...when I first heard about this place I just assumed it was a shop where you go buy cheese to take home to eat and cook. I thought, ehh I'm not that big into fancy cheeses so I may pass on checking this place out. It was after checking out Yelp reviews that I found out they serve actual meals and food here along with their full service cheese counter (like a local butcher but for cheese). We walked in and at first it appeared to be just a busy cheese shop with a good number of people waiting to order their cheeses and meats. A kind staff member recognized our confusion immediately and asked if we were here to get an order or to eat lunch, we happily said we were here for lunch and we were seated at a table. The decor is very...cheese shop-like haha, and I've never been in a cheese shop, it was nice and "real". There aren't too many tables so I wouldn't be surprised if they lacked seating some days for lunch or dinner. The staff members are all extremely friendly and knowledgeable about the products they serve. We had a few questions regarding the menu and everything was answered to our satisfaction. For those who are wondering, they have a separate menu for those eating in that is not on the menu board at the counter. Also, for those eating in, anything on the counter board is free game to order for your meal. Same goes for all their drinks and wines. I ordered the standard Toastie, which is a grilled cheese sandwich and I believe the item they are best known for. You can added different meats to it, but I just kept it plain. Obviously I had to get a cup of tomato soup with it because you have to eat grilled cheese sandwiches with tomato soup or else the fabric of the space time continuum will rip. IT WAS AMAZING! THE TOASTIE AND THE SOUP OHH , NOT GONNA EXAGGERATE, BEST GRILLED CHEESE IVE EVER HAD IN MY LIFE! The texture, flavor, everything was perfect! My wife ordered the special Mac and cheese which was a special that day. It was a bit pricey and the dish itself was complex with complex ingredients. It tasted pretty good and exotic, but for the price I would stick to their simple dishes which I know they will knock out of the park. We also got two drinks, ginger ale and root beer, they were both good and would recommend them. We are counting the days until we make a repeat visit back here! So many things I want to try! You will love the atmosphere and staff as well, I'm glad our town has a place like this!

Yelp
Rolled into the Cheese shop yesterday to share a drink on the patio since it was so beautiful out! The Cheese shop is one of a kind in Des Moines! For me I'm Vegan so I don't do any of the Cheese stuff, but they have an amazing BEER selection! And I'm going to go out on a limb and say they would have the perfect Cheese to go with all of them! Tons of cheeses, other snacks, and sandwiches fill up the menu! Might be the only place in Des Moines where they have an actual Pig's Leg that they shave meat off of right in front of you! (Scary for a Vegan) but also kinda incredible to see in real life! The staff is super knowledgeable about the cheese and wine, and there was even a Wine tasting going on while we were there on a Thursday afternoon! Beautiful store inside and out! Make this your one, stop cheese shop!

Yelp
Wow...it's been awhile since I have handed out a 5 star but I believe that this place warrants it. I stopped by today to meet a friend for lunch on a cold Iowa day. Summary -Order any kind of toastie you want - I recommend the Royal -Arrive by 1145 if you want to sit at a table on a weekday -Order extra gherkins if you order the Royal -Come back time and again, this place is AMAZING The decor and layout is perfect for what this place is. It's a cheese shop + benefits. Namely simple but perfectly executed dishes that showcase the tremendous cheese that they sell. Glad we came early as all the tables filled up for lunch and all that was left was bar seating by 1145. I looked at their large yet simple menu and settled on a Royal Toastie. You will see in the picture that this is a grilled ham and cheese sandwich covered in bacon crisps lathered in mornay (cheese) sauce, topped with a fried egg and served with pickled gherkins. Think of it as a high class rare bit. This thing was delicious from every angle, each bite was rich, sweet, salty and crunchy. The egg was perfectly cooked and runny and the gherkins gave it a good acidic punch to break up all that rich creaminess. The waitress was awesome and brought be a large serving of gherkins! Now it does end up being a pricey lunch (the Royal is $12) but you can't have this everyday (otherwise you would be in for cardiac arrest). On your cheat day, eat this. It's worth it!!

Yelp
Love everything about this place. but nothing is better than enjoying a glass of local wine and meeting local people you may have never come across if you hadn't stumbled upon this place

Yelp
How did I forget to review this place!?!? Very professional cheese shop, great selection, cozy inside, employees have good product knowledge, and they put a lot of effort and pride into their business. If you're a cheese fan then this is the spot for you. I especially love them for recommending Mt. Tam from cowgirl creamy, such an amazing cheese!
google avatar

Matthew O.

Yelp
Wow. Wow wow wow. What a great, great little place they've got in Des Moines. Artisan cheeses, incredible cured meats, and a cozy little spot on 42nd St. I had the Pig & Fig sandwich and loved it. Prosciutto, fig spread, crisp lettuce, ciabatta bread...wow. So good. Would love to order from their deli, would love to sample some of the other prosciuttos and meats they had -- definitely going to have to come back when we road trip to Chicago because this place is terrific.
google avatar

Florence N.

Yelp
Very frustrating - went here for lunch with my daughter - we ordered and fifteen minutes later the waiter came out and said they were out of salad. I ordered an entree salad and it is unbelievable that they ran out of salad greens and that it took them so long to tell us. We left and went elsewhere for lunch!
google avatar

Lindsay B.

Yelp
Better than Zingerman's. Yeah, I said it. This is the first legitimate excuse I have come up with for coming to Des Moines from Chicago. The service and cheese selection is unparalleled in the Midwest and probably the country. I've only had one chance to sit down and try their weekend menu, but it was fantastic - by the time my group walked out, we'd "had" to order almost every dish on the menu. No reservations, though, and it can get a little crazy later in the day; be prepared to wait to pounce on a table.
google avatar

Erin O.

Yelp
If you want to: eat something delicious; feel cool; and enjoy the best that Des Moines has to offer- patronize The Cheese Shop. I enjoyed a Toastie ($6) with Pepper Jam ($0.50). It's safe to say I've thought about this sandwich five times since that fateful lunch. It was served warm, buttery and ooey-gooey. The sandwich was so satisfying that I was able to eat half at lunch and the other half at dinner. Let's talk about atmosphere: awesome. I felt cool just sitting in the place. Great clientele, chill vibe, mouth-watering cheese all around us; no wonder people come back again, and again, and again. Prices are decent, our server was attentive. It's obvious The Cheese Shop has found an unexplored niche in Des Moines. Farm-to-table, locally-sourced dairy goodness -- and then some. I'd say this is gourmet fare at its best in the heart of Iowa.

Yelp
If you're looking for something unique, intimate, high quality food & drink, and away from the chain restaurant jungle of WDM you need to check out the Cheese Shop! Located in the little strip mall of the Shops of Roosevelt, halfway between downtown Des Moines and West Des Moines. Space inside is very limited, but comfortable. High top table seating is available as well as several seats along the counter. I could live off the LaQuercia Prosciutto, but all of their meats are fantastic! If you have the chance to talk to CJ (the owner) grab him and ask for his recommendations. One of my favorite things about visiting this place is the story behind he food. CJ and his staff are extremely knowledgeable about where the food comes from, the regions, the family history, etc. The Cheese Shop is a different dining experience from what most people are used to but once you come here, you'll want to come back!
google avatar

Erin H.

Yelp
This is a go-to place for us for date night and I love it for a girls night out. The staff is incredibly friendly and it's clear they want to share their love and knowledge of their cheeses and cured meats. Normally we do a cheese plate and sometimes an additional item. One recent visit, we were there around lunchtime and ate from the menu. I had the mac and cheese, which was truly amazing, the best I'd ever had. My husband had a panini sandwich that he raved about. Another plus is that they have a wide selection of wines and beers and the mark up tends to be fairly low. The location is small, but that adds to the charm. We've never had to wait too long for a table or a seat at the bar. We've also just stopped in and bought cheeses to enjoy at home. They are always very helpful in selecting cheeses to go with our tastes or the type of event/meal we're having.

Yelp
Having lived in Chicago for 12 years, one of the things that that worried me most about coming back to Iowa was the potentially precipitous drop off in great restaurants. Places that not only have great food, but also a hip, yet inviting atmosphere. After a bit of a rocky start (good food in the suburbs is a bit of a "tough crowd"), we came upon The Cheese Shop and from the second we walked in, we knew this was going to be one of "our places". Don't let the quasi strip mall location fool you, this place is legit. It's small, it's charming, and has exposed brick. What more do you want? Creative beers you won't find anywhere else? Check. Grilled cheese "toasties" that reaffirm your faith in humanity? Check. A staff that is friendly and hip without being hipster? Boom goes the dynamite. The ham and cheese royale toastie was a caloric gift from heaven. The Off Color Apex Predator beer made me want to become an alcoholic. I wanted to put the giant block of prosciutto behind the counter next to my bed, and just feed off of it every night until I'm bedridden. It's not big or fancy, but is definitely 'farmhouse chic'. But once you try those toasties, you won't really care. You could eat those things in a padded cell and they'd taste just as good.

Yelp
Staff is sooooo nice!! I'm glad we checked out this little shop as we explored Des Moines. Worth the price and is so unique and fun!

Yelp
Customer Service: A+ I ordered the "Royal" sandwhich which is a rich, cheesy slice of heaven. I was very pleased with it and I'm really excited to come back here ASAP!

Yelp
These gentlemen (all) who waited on us were SO attentive and lovely... they gave us meat/cheese samples and MY-they were very busy!! A fabulous shop to be sure....THANK You!!

Yelp
One of the coolest shops/bars/eatery I have ever been to. Great quality cheese, food, and wine/beer. I have also taken a cheese class here, which was taught by the owner. The nicest guy. The class was informative, and the cheese delicious. I recommend coming here for food, a class, cheese, beer/wine. Super impressed! If you are in Des Moines you need to come here.

Yelp
The sandwiches here are amazing! I can't say enough good things about this place. My husband and I ate here last weekend and we couldn't believe we hadn't come in here sooner. I thought they sold only cheese. I didn't know they had a charming little cafe that served such great food. Right when we walked in, we were greeted with the wonderful aroma of meats and cheeses. That alone got us salivating. The whole place was buzzing with diners. Every once in awhile there would be customers coming in to buy meats and cheeses at the counter, too. I could tell this was a very popular spot. We were lucky to grab the last free table. We had come there with the intention of ordering one of their toasties (grilled cheese sandwiches), but one of their very friendly employees informed us that they were out of the bread that they use for the toasties. We were disappointed, but undaunted, we ordered one of their other sandwiches. We figured we couldn't go wrong no matter what we ordered. I got the Muffaletta and a cup of soup, and my husband got the Pig and Fig. It took a while for them to make them for us. But once we took a bite, we understood why. Perfection like that takes time. Our sandwiches were so good we were rendered speechless! I thought I had tasted good sandwiches before like those from South Union Bread Cafe or the B&B Deli, but those were nothing compared to this. This place has ruined all other sandwiches for me. Thanks a lot, Cheese Shop! Their roasted tomato soup was out of this world, too. We want to go back again next week and try their toasties and every other sandwich on their menu. I also want to try their mac and cheese and a charcuterie plate. It makes me so happy that a place like this exists. When I've visited sandwich places in other cities like Chicago or Fort Collins, I've always wished that Des Moines had a place like that where you could get an extraordindary sandwich. Now I don't have to wish anymore or feel sandwich envy. We have our own great little sandwich place. I almost don't want to tell anyone else. I want it to be my own little secret. But their food is so great, I feel that I must share this with everyone. I want this place to stay in Des Moines for good.

Yelp
Such a cute-quaint little shop! Customer service was stellar. We were in a hurry & The cheese shop delivered excellent food to go speedy fast. The mac & cheese was rich, filling & delicious! The corned beef toasty had multiple unique flavors melding together for a stellar sandwich. I'm pretty sure they were sweet pickles on the sandwich- which normally I really don't like but worked well! We will be back.

Yelp
You can't go wrong ordering anything off the menu, its all very good! CJ's love/passion for cheese is beyond obsessive which I think is OK. CJ and his crew do an amazing job

Yelp
Just ate here and had a wonderful experience! The cheese shop is a cute dainty place that offers an impressive array of local cheeses and meats. Great place to go for wine and cheese plate. I didn't know this till recently but they also have a fantastic cafe menu that includes mac and cheese and toasties (kind of like grilled cheese sandwiches) I had the Royal Ham and Cheese Toastie and it is AMAZING! It's a Toastie with ham, cheese, bacon and then lathered with a succulent cheese sauce on top. It reminds me of a Croque Monsieur but with a cheese-based sauce instead. Also tried a regular Toastie with fig jam and it has the perfect contrast of sweetness and saltiness. Mac and cheese here is also delicious. They use pasta that more closely resemble penne noodles. Will need to try a cheese plate next time I come in here. Kind of an under looked gem here that I think more people should try!

Yelp
I died and went to cheesy heaven. This shop is an amazing array of meats and cheeses. Also selections of wine and beers! The staff is amazing at recommendations of cheeses and giving samples!! And did I mention samples, small bite sized samples of pure bliss!!! I purchased a goat cheese, stinky but good! A wonderfully creamy Gouda, and a manchego cheese, which I will be cooking with tomorrow! The guy at the counter knew my weakness and kept showing us different products. But was always super friendly!! I must come back to try some of their deli menu items!!! I am so tempted by everything! A must come back when we have a little more time.

Yelp
The Cheese Shop is now one of my favorite places to eat in Des Moines. They've got a nice, kind of small, but cozy set up here. We had to wait a little while, but not too long. They can get you wine while you wait or they have a self serve cooler of beers and other beverages, with some pretty good choices. The first thing we tried was a bread and oil plate for $2 a great starter here. We had heard great things about the Mac and Cheese, and it lived up to it. It is probably the best mac and cheese I've had. It's has a Gouda and a 4 year cheddar cheese in it and then we added bacon, takes it over the top. We also got a Muffuletta sandwich too, which they did an excellent job and this also. We sat at the bar and got great service here too, they make you feel very welcome here. On a side note they've got one of the nicer bathrooms I've been in. In my opinion this is one of the best places to eat in Des Moines. I will come back to try some of the other delicious foods I saw.

Yelp
This was one of the best experiences I have had in Des Moines. They have the best selection of cheese. My wife and I really enjoyed a relaxing day enjoyed the meat and cheese board with a good glass of wine. The best part of the whole experience was the staff. They were very friendly and helpful. Next time I visit Des Moines I will make sure this is our first stop.

Yelp
Awesome wine. Great cheese and meat selection. Great staff. We stopped by on Saturday, had wine and cheese meat and appetizers selection including awesome toastie of blue cheese and honey! Some of the cheeses and sausage that we didn't like we're substituted with other delicious choices. Great experience. Will be back for sure!!!
