"The Mission outpost of The Coffee Movement only has two flavors of soft serve, but their espresso soft serve more than makes up for a lack of variety. Even your most coffee-adverse friends could probably find something to like about it: a velvety texture that’s slightly roughened up by specks of coffee beans, or maybe the bittersweet flavor that doesn’t go too far in either direction. Be sure to follow along on Instagram to see what seasonal flavor is on rotation and for updated hours on when the soft serve is available." - julia chen 1, lani conway, patrick wong
"With just 100 made daily, the donuts from The Coffee Movement inside of Side A can be a hard snag. But if you make it to this Mission coffee shop before noon, you should be able to get your hands on at least one of the two rotating flavors. While the cake donuts are great, the yeast ones are even better. They taste like they’ve been pumped with air and disappear after just a couple of chews. Our favorite flavor so far is the lemon glaze." - julia chen 1, lani conway, ricky rodriguez, patrick wong
"Joining the likes of Hi Nrg, this outpost of local coffee chain The Coffee Movement is yet another place in the city to drink coffee and listen to vinyl. It's only open on weekday mornings and located inside Side A, a small American restaurant in the Mission. Most days, the handful of bar seats and tightly packed tables are filled by caffeine dependents with vinyl collections. But no one stays for too long, thanks to the “Please, no laptops" signage. This is for the best, because your attention should be on the coffee and whatever record is playing, anyway. photo credit: Patrick Wong The donuts, too, deserve your attention—maybe more so than the coffee and vinyl. The Coffee Movement only makes about 100 per day, typically in two rotating flavors, with usually one yeast and one cake. Our favorite is the yeast that has a Krispy Kreme-adjacent airy texture. And if you’re lucky, it'll be lemon glazed. And if you're too late for the donuts, the coffee soft serve is a fantastic consolation. It tastes like freshly roasted coffee with flecks of beans in almost every bite. Just note that it's only available from 11am-1pm on weekdays as well as 4-5pm Thursday through Monday. photo credit: Patrick Wong" - Patrick Wong
"The Coffee Movement has its triumphant summit-like original cafe and the newer Balboa Street location for the cyclists and west side stans. But founders Bryan Overstreet and Reef Bessette linked with Mission District newcomer Side A to provide coffee and soft serve alongside the restaurant’s doughnuts in the morning. The breezy seating, with a proper bar, provides a somewhat singular cafe experience in the city. Try the lavender ice cream, while it lasts, and settle in for a while — phones discourage." - Paolo Bicchieri

"One of San Francisco’s sleekest newcomers is for sure a fantastic morning coffee option, a side of just-fried donuts arriving on a tremendous plate before sliding into a to-go brown paper bag. In the evenings, Side A is a smart solo option as the line pools into an amoeba of would-be-diners in two and three person crews. You’ll have to wait for the bone marrow burger and garbage salad, riddled with pork belly, either way. But arriving as a party of one beautifully expedites the whole shebang." - Paolo Bicchieri
