Yelp
We were excited about coming to this bar to watch NFL games and our favorite team. We arrived as soon as the restaurant opened and had no problem getting a table next to the screen with our preferred game. I could recount our experience in chronological order, but I need to start with the most egregious and dishonest issue first. For all my yelpers out there, you know that many businesses offer a discount or some other perk if you check in on the app. So I checked in and there was a 10% off bill offer. When I was about to settle my bill, and showed the offer to the waitress, she went and told her manager about the coupon and he said he couldn't honor it because "it was only good for online and pick up orders." I knew that was a lie because there was no promo code AND the coupon said nothing like that. But because the waitress had me mark the offer as used, I couldn't verify. So I grabbed my husband's phone, downloaded Yelp and checked in and got the same offer and, just as I figured, it says NOTHING about online or pick up orders. So I show the waitress and she's like stumbling over her words and doesn't know what to say other than she'll get her manager. The manager comes and tries to tell the same lie, that it's only good for online orders, but when I showed him the offer, he then says he didn't know what it was, then said that they haven't honored the offer in years, and kept saying the offer was no good. Well which is it? Is it for online and pickup orders, are you unsure of what it is, or is that you know what it is and haven't honored it in years. Well, if the offer is coming up as valid, then that's not my fault. He kept trying to get out of honoring the offer. I suggested that they contact Yelp and work it out and in the meantime, it's only fair to honor the 10% off.
My other issue was one that could be seen as unfavorable upon the restaurant. Since the restaurant doesn't have an espresso machine, after I ordered my food, I walked next door to Coffee Bean and grabbed a latte. I returned to the restaurant with my latte and sat down. The waitress came by and said no outside drinks. Now, if I just tried to tie up a seat without ordering any food or beverage, I get it. But we were clearly ordering food and drinks. So I had to go outside while our food was being prepared and drink my coffee. Okay so there's the letter of the law (their business policy/practice) and the spirit of the law (an action the business could allow but it isn't desirable). Considering I'm ordering food and beverage from them, is it really necessary to make me go outside and drink my latte? For God's sake, it's 10am and you guys don't have a real coffee bar. Again, I get that there's a policy/rule, but I didn't bring in a drink that's being sold by your restaurant. If I walked in with a coke, sprite, or a fifth of alcohol, or chicken strips and fries from
fatburger, i should definitely be turned away. However, a latte at 10am seems pretty darn innocuous to me. My last issue with the restaurant isn't even worth typing. My basic conclusion is that we won't be returning here anymore. There's plenty of sports bars in town that we can support.
