Hotel Review: Nine Orchard in New York City - AFAR

"Led by acclaimed chef Ignacio Mattos, the hotel’s bistro-style restaurant channels global bistro influences with consistently strong cooking: delicate oysters, a fish of the day accented with hollandaise and hazelnuts, and notably crisp pommes frites are standouts. Breakfast and brunch are highlights as well—overnight guests receive a complimentary continental spread that includes a flaky croissant from La Cabra and Counter Culture coffee, while heartier options include an omelette Française with gruyère, asparagus, and gribiche. The kitchen’s pedigree makes it worth seeking out even if you’re not staying at the hotel, though guests receive booking priority." - Aislyn Greene

I ordered the salmon salad and, although the salad itself was great, the salmon was very undercooked and cool in the center. I actually read the reviews on this place before ordering because I had trouble picking an entree and stumbled upon the review where one customer got not one but two undercooked orders of the fish and chips…needless to say, I gave the restaurant the benefit of the doubt and ordered the salmon anyways, but was sadly disappointed. Our server and the atmosphere was great and all of my friends’ food looked good so I’d still recommend coming here, but steer clear of any dishes where your fish/meat might be undercooked.

Google
We went here for drinks after dinner. Located downstairs in the iconic Boulderado hotel this little gem serves a great selection of cocktails, wine beer and food. We loved the atmosphere it was very classy and old school feeling. The drink menu was small but they had a very nice selection of wine and spirits. The cocktails were thoughtfully made and tasted amazing. The prices were reasonable and the service was excellent !! They have a plethora of televisions and are willing to put on whatever channel the customer requests.

Outstanding place. Worth going out of your way to try. Cocktails and small plates are epic enough to carry on their own, but there isn't a bad bite to be found!

Corner Bar is our go-to spot every Friday after skiing, and it never disappoints. As Boulder locals, we love the laid-back vibe, great live music, and the cozy yet lively atmosphere. The menu is perfect for both adults and kids—simple, well-crafted, and delicious. Since the kitchen is shared with their main restaurant, the food is spectacular, far beyond your typical bar fare. The balcony seating is a hidden gem, making it the perfect place to unwind with friends, especially when we have visitors from out of town and make a reservation. And the service? It’s always outstanding. The bus staff, bar backs, bartenders, and servers are always working hard to keep things running smoothly. And Wes and the whole waitstaff team make us feel so welcome always. Highly recommend!

Google
The food was really great, which is most important. I loved the GF blueberry pancakes. Our waitress was very nice. The hotel has 2 restaurants and the other one was very busy and after over an hours long wait, everyone came over to this one when they opened. Staff were nice and accommodating. They had a lot of tables to take care of all at once. The restaurant definitely needs a deep clean and updated furniture. Chairs are broken. I know it’s historical but that doesn’t mean you can’t have clean floors and walls etc.

Google
Had a really nice late afternoon/evening apps/drinks/dinner while enjoying the wonderful outdoor seating area during Happy Hour at the bar. Our waiter, Ben, was exceptional, so helpful and really went above and beyond to make sure we had a wonderful time celebrating our son’s 22nd birthday. Drinks were delish, and the truffle fries, steak, and smoked salmon tacos were excellent. We enjoyed Spruce a couple visits ago, but it doesn’t open until 5. The restaurant suggested we enjoy the Corner Bar until it opened - glad we did!

Google
I loved this Corner Bar! It is the hotel bar of the Bolderado hotel, which could easily be the set for Wes Anderson’s next movie. Beautiful and ornate old building with lots of charm. We went during happy hour and had a few drinks and some appetizers to share amongst our party of five. Prices are to be expected, and service was good. I am just passing through Boulder, so I don’t know if I’ll have the chance to go back, but it’s a very cool place!

Google
Monday night early winter happy hour, the lower level of the restaurant was packed. Service is good, friendly, and pretty efficient. The happy hour menu has glasses of wine about $6-8 as well as other drinks. The shared dishes are pretty big for the price - like six big meatballs on a bed of polenta for $10 (decent), crispy brussels sprouts (not crispy but well-cooked and delicious), calamari (decent) and firecracker wings (great taste and portion size for $9). It's noisy but you can still have a conversation. A good deal and very pleasant atmosphere with food that did not come frozen off the back of a truck and thrown into a fryer. Give it a try!

Yelp
I'm going to write a review about how accommodating the staff was to make the entrance into the bar accessible for my power wheelchair. They were crowded with guests and took the time to accommodate my needs. Once inside, their waiters were knowledgeable about the menu options and helped us to split Entrees. We were all (5) well fed and left Happy from our experience

Yelp
Food was excellent! The cinco de mayo special was so good. Service was great and checked on us often. Live music Sundays makes for good vibes.

Yelp
The Corner Bar is just down the street from the Boulder Theater, and this is how we happened to be there on a super busy Friday night. We were seated promptly, and drinks weren't far behind. We opted to sit outside because it was very loud inside and you know, we're old. hahaha... Our server was on it and our food came out pretty fast considering how busy it was. I had the fish tacos and they were delicious. Pro Tip ~ take a look around the lovely, historic Boulderado while you're there.

Yelp
This was by far our favorite meal while we were out in Colorado. So GOOD! We tried a few tapas, including this mushroom concoction that is to die for. Drinks were yummy and fresh fish from the Rocky Mountains was divine. Our server was really joyful too, which is always a nice touch. Cool decor and attached to a historic hotel.

Yelp
Second visit here. First time was pre-pandemic, so it's been awhile. We had clam chowder, calamari, and amazing mule cocktails. Service was excellent. Stopped in yesterday for drinks, it was my birthday and we were out and about in Boulder, a rare occurrence, and I remembered the great drinks we had prior. Apparently they recently changed their drink menu. Which is ok, but the ones we got this time weren't near as good. Service was also fairly poor. I get we just ordered drinks (we had already had lunch elsewhere) but we still spent $40, I would expect to not have empty glasses on the table for 10 minutes and have to wave down a server.

Yelp
We had a post concert cocktail and glass of wine here. My Manhattan was really tasty. Comfortable seating, nice surroundings, attentive staff, and close to Pearl Street and the Boulder Theater. All I can say about the food is that lots of other tables ordered food, even though it was 10pm, it looked great, and seemed to come out of the kitchen quickly. I'll circle back to try the food soon!

Yelp
The corner bar is situated in a lovely historic hotel Boulderado! Complete with 1905 elevator, cash register and original front desk! We stopped in for a drink and a bite to eat. There was live music that was really loud but awesome! I ordered a cocktail that I can't pronounce. It was nice and smooth with a hint of strawberry. I also ordered the cauliflower and Brussels sprouts appetizer and prime rib sliders. The veggies were delicious and surprisingly the sweet chili sauce paired perfectly with it! The service was hit and miss with the drinks but the waiter did mention that the bar was backed up.

Yelp
Didn't love - we asked for an outside table and were told that they couldn't service outside tables because they were too busy - it was 530pm......they weren't that busy and I'm in hospitality - inside to outside is about 20 steps but whatever let's move into the food - it was not good. None of us enjoyed our meals - when I asked everyone to give their assessments all they said was not good and over cooked - personally I had the fried chicken sandwich and it was so over cooked i couldn't eat it AND I don't usually mind well done food - so it had to be pretty darn over cooked. Service was marginal.

Yelp
Excellent food! I went on a Monday for lunch and it wasn't busy. I order the Cherry Chicken and Brie salad. Was delicious! I shoukd have snapped a pic of my food, but just got a pic of the item on the menu to send to my husband because it sounded so good! Lived up to expectations.

Yelp
My fiancé and I walked in here with the goal of eating late and healthy because we were still pretty full from eating a bunch of unhealthy German cuisine (which was great and zero regrets but I will save that for a different review) And it was a massive struggle when we saw how scrumptious the menu looked! We ended up ordering a lot more than I expected. The oysters were SO delicious and fresh. I could eat those all day. My fiancé and I ordered different soups, and I loved how flavorful my clam chowder was. However I think my fiancé fell harder in love with his butternut squash soup. Up to this evening, he is still talking about how tasty it was and this dinner happened last night! I'm starting to get a little jealous of that soup ha ha. We also ordered the Santa Fe chicken salad and asked to split the salad into 2 plates, but the portion was HUGE it was as if we ordered a full size on our own! At this point I was so full from my soup and oysters, I only took a few bites of the salad. I enjoyed those few bites though! Would love to come back when we are actually super hungry to try the more filling entrees. Also a huge plus that our waiter was super friendly and attentive!

Yelp
This is my go to spot for happy hour. Lots of delicious options, especially the prime rib sliders.. melt in your mouth service is always prompt and friendly and they make a great dirty martini.

Yelp
I liked the place overall (2 guys for dinner) Pros - Great atmosphere (quiet) - mostly family or old couples - friendly servers - alcohol was actually quite cheap (beer and cocktails) for a bar (sub 10) - gravy and vegetables were great Cons - Fried chicken was the specialty but it was less than average. Would not recommend. The potatos and vegetables tasted great though. - Fried fish wasn't very fresh. However, to do the restaurant justice, I am very picky about fried foods and fish in general. This place was just an average restaurant for both and I don't have high expectations on these for most places in the US. Therefore, for most people it would be a great place. I personally would pick non-chicken and non-fish menus in the future, as everything else seemed great.

Yelp
The better half and I had our travel's take us to Boulder, CO! It was a little late so We had limited choices. We came across a nice cozy bar with indoor and outdoor dining. Upon entering, we were immediately seated and the server was very helpful with recommendations. I got the Balsamic Chicken and she got the Leg of Lamb Sandwich. The balsamic chicken was very tasty! Only complaint is I had, was I felt for the $20 plus price tags it was barely 4oz. Her leg of lamb sandwich had a real nice flavor too it. The lamb tasted delicious, along with the toppings. One complaint, the bread used for the bun was HARD. She ended up eating it as an open faced sandwich. Overall, the food was tasty. Although for the price, we felt my portion was small and her sandwich's bun was hard. If it's late and places are limited, check The Corner Bar out. The bar looked welcoming, but the food wasn't worth the cost.

Yelp
Super cute area one block away from the infamous Pearl street. On the corner directly underneath Hotel Bolderado this place has a ton of charm & some great food. Don't forget to stop by the lobby and see the beautiful stained glass ceiling just steps away from the restaurant and get a sip of water from the coolest water fountain ever!
google avatar

Nora W.

Yelp
Really good food, best on the menu is the Bistro Burger for sure! Service was acceptable, food was exceptional. The appetizer (rib crostini) was wonderful and the seasonal drinks were creative and delicious. Will be back again.
google avatar

Yelp
I am a guest at the Hotel Boulderado. The staff was wonderful. The food was NOT. I went to the corner bar specifically for the mushroom toasts which The Spruce does not have on their menu. (They share a kitchen.) Three of the four toasts were BURNT beyond eating so I picked the mushrooms off and left the bread. I also ordered a side Cesar and while it had an abundance of Parmesan (shaved and grated!), it came with no dressing at all. I was thankful it had a lemon on the side so I could dress it with something. My waiter Bruce was very busy with the lunch crowd (so was the delightful woman working the shift with him) and I didn't want to bother them to complain. Definitely come for the hotel but skip the food.

Yelp
Fun times with good food lively service and accommodating seating for our group. Corn chowder was better after adding a little hot sauce.

Alex S.

Yelp
stopped in before a show at the boulder theatre and had ian at the bar. he was so attentive and answered all of our questions about the drinks and menu. he makes a mean espresso martini!

Yelp
This was our first lunch stop on our arrival to Boulder. They have indoor and outdoor seating. It was a beautiful day and outside seating was not available. We close to eat inside and enjoyed the historic feel of the bar and hotel area. They offer a regular and special lunch menu. My husband ordered the Bison Reuben and it was great. I ordered the Summer Trout. The portion was small but it was very tasty. I am allergic to walnuts so they were accommodating and substituted wild rice for the walnut pilaf. Service was a bit slow but our server was hustling trying her best to cover all of her tables. Be sure to check out the hotel lobby!
google avatar

Bonnie G.

Yelp
Cute, classy little place that feels like a more sophisticated neighborhood spot for great Angus burgers, griddled buttered burger buns, buttery salmon, and bison reubens. My burger was a little overcooked, but overall it was a towering feast of tomatoes, raw onion, and lettuce and I devoured it all. Really sweet people working here, too. (Shoutout to Sydney who was so kind to our dog!)

Jason S.

Yelp
I went on a Tuesday night. Good crowd for midweek The Chicken Sandwich was probably one of the best I have ever had. Tender chicken, perfectly cooked. Lily waited on us. She was professional, polite and made for extremely enjoyable dining experience. Bartender made killer dirty martinis. I highly recommend. Fantastic staff

Ryan C.

Yelp
the bar tender Ian is a great charismatic guy. very fast and good service. I have been helped out by both zoey, hayley, and lily who were very friendly, proffesional, and accommodating. would defiantly come back!

Yelp
Ate lunch here after hiking. Walking around downtown Boulder, it looked a like fun place and had nice seating right along the road. The service was good, friendly and prompt. We had a variety of their beers on tap and one cider- they were all good and a little unique- very enjoyable! The salmon sandwich, burger and prime rib sandwich were all great and you could get a variety of sides- including the truffle fries for no extra charge. The Brussels sprouts and cauliflower was a great app - the chicken wings were average- nothing to remarkably good. The restaurant is part of the Boulderado hotel and sits right next to it. This was a good lunch but nothing that really wowed us- still good if you are looking for a meal or a quick drink.

Yelp
We took our out-of-state guests here last night for an early dinner before they headed back to the mid-west. The menu has great options for vegetarian, non-vegetarian, comfort or standard bar fare and then also some not so traditional bar food which was perfect! My husband ordered the Bison Reuben and would definitely get it again. I had the salmon sandwich with some reservation about the onion marmalade, and I shouldn't have doubted! It was delicious and the balance of flavors was perfect. Our guests enjoyed the fish and chips and were delighted with the truffle fries (this is one of my husband and my favorite things here). I also highly recommend the Breckenridge Martini - love the basil!

Yelp
On New Years Eve, I was filming a wedding outside of the Corner Bar. While taking group pictures, someone came out(I'm guessing it was the owner) and donated 2 free bottles of champagne to the bride, groom and wedding party. Incredibly generous and a great atmosphere overall. Staff was incredibly nice to us as wel
google avatar

Yelp
Great vibe, delicious beers and adobo steak sandwichExcellent! And our server Candice was wonderful.

Yelp
Went for happy hour and food, service and location were all incredible. Best meal on vacation, and great value too ($50 for drinks and food for three). We had calamari, steak sliders, Brussel sprouts and drinks and everything was delicious and plenty of food - even had leftovers from three people. Servers couldn't have been kinder and more accommodating. Even helped to entertain our toddler.

Melanie T.

Yelp
Just an unorganized mess. Waiters had no idea of their sections, the menu, or the drinks, and it took forever to get the check. Could have been due to staff turn over and new people. Mediocre food. Drinks were okay. Much better places to eat in the area but I can see the convenience if you're staying at the hotel. On a positive note, the do have a Happy Hour menu on Saturday which is nice.
google avatar

Donna C.

Yelp
Stopped in for Sunday afternoon cocktail. Pleasant enough to sit outside at the table of our choice. Hostess was friendly and attentive. Server was pleasant and perhaps distracted. Service was slow and he didn't seem to be on his game. Received the wrong drink after he repeated our order. Brussels sprouts and cauliflower was not as good as we were hoping. Only 3 pieces of cauliflower and in an odd choice of something like duck sauce.

Emily B.

Yelp
We had a great early afternoon meal the the Corner Bar. Good, fresh salads and our server Zoe was a doll. We sat outside and it was perfect. Great food, great drinks, great service.
google avatar

Mercedes S.

Yelp
Love this place and every time I visit Boulder make it a point to eat here, their clam chowder and trout are very good
google avatar

Deb D.

Yelp
Nice way to enjoy a swanky hotel atmosphere without the swanky prices. Outdoor seating and a fine menu. Drinks were ok. Service was pleasant. A few times we felt forgotten - but touring the gorgeous historical hotel was the best dessert ever.
google avatar

Jennifer C.

Yelp
Stopped in for cocktails while visiting Boulder. Bartender was friendly, drinks were great (Ihad the Boulder Mule) and the vibe was cool. Would stop in again!
google avatar

Lexy C.

Yelp
Admittedly, we only came here because I wanted some clam chowder. Got a nice large portion for about $8, that was very flavourful, with lots of clams (and potatoes). It's not very thick, but still comforting on a cold winter day. For sides, fries had a good seasoning on them but the vegetables were five small pieces of bland zucchini. All in all, a good experience. It's a block away from Pearl Street Mall, if you're in the area but prefer a less crowded setting.

Paul S.

Yelp
The food and drinks were fantastic. I usually go to this location and the service is pretty mediocre. However, my server Zoe this time raised up the reputation. If I was management I would give her a promotion. Try the truffle fries, they are the best in Boulder.
google avatar

Corey R.

Yelp
Stopped here before our reservation for food across the street yesterday (Sept 23, 2020). The goal was to have a quick drink at a relatively enjoyable bar but our pleasant experience quickly became awkward when our waiter outside questioned the tip we provided. The combination of the tip at the table equaled about 22% of the total bill before tax but because the checks were split it seemed one of us gave less of a percentage. Regardless, a waiter should never say "that is all you are going to tip me, thanks for nothing" in a sarcastic tone. The waiter's attitude reflected very poorly on this historic establishment. Note to management: The drinks were excellent but the treatment by our waiter was rude and awkward.
google avatar

Ciara M.

Yelp
Very meh experience. The soup was cold when originally serverd and the staff was not very apologetic about it . The brussel sprouts were very good and the fish and chips were tasty. The hotel that the restaurant is located in is incredibly decorated. With all of the incredible dining experiences available in boulder this just really didn't stack up

Yelp
I hate giving bad reviews. I feel I have no choice in this instance. My bf and I flew in to Denver airport for a birthday trip to Red Rocks. We decided we wanted to stop in Boulder for lunch. After flying all day, we were starved and I looked up all the spots in Boulder on Open Table, and based on the menu and the ratings, we thought this would be a great choice. We arrived around 3 pm and could not have had a worse experience. First, when I asked to sit at a table with sun on the patio, the hostess was visibally annoyed, even though there were at least six open patio tables for all size of parties. I waited tables for many years and I understand that her job is to ensure proper table rotation for the servers, etc., but you never treat your customers with disdain, or argue with them over a reasonable request. This was just an omen of what was yet to come. The server for our table was very pleasant and polite, we ordered two cocktails for happy hour, but they were out of the pina colada that was advertised and that my BF had his heart set on. We then proceeded to wait 20 minutes for our drinks and got our first appetizer about 30 minutes after that, which were sliders that were completely cold. We sent them back. Another 20 minutes went by and we asked about our entrees. The server told us that my crab salad was on the way. I asked, "What about his chicken salad?" and her eyes got real big and then she said, 'oh yeah, it's coming too,' and then hurried off. We then waited another 20 minutes for the forgotten salad to come out with the sparce crab salad. Meanwhile, several tables that arrived after us were well in to their meals or already gone. We watched as the chef had lunch with his gf at table next to us, while our food was inexcusably delayed. We were there almost two hours and left feeling still hungry, ripped off and treated as just another number. I would never go back here and this lunch tarnished my arrival to Colorado for my birthday weekend.

Yelp
Came here for a quick bite during last call as my flight got in late. Had the warm kale salad with salmon and a bloody Mary. High compliments on the Bloody Mary- made with green Chile vodka it was delightful and packed a good kick! The plump olives were fresh which I really appreciated. The kale salad did the trick but was much more greasy and oily than I was hoping for. The kale was totally sauteed and mixed with peppers and mushrooms to a delicious but overall mushy mix. Thankful for the late night service but will look for something lighter next time. Ambiance: very trendy with fun bottle light fixtures and hunting paraphanelia!
google avatar

Veronique C.

Yelp
The Corner Bar is a nice casual place for lunch, happy hour or a late night bite. They also have a patio that goes around the corner of the Hotel Boulderado. I have been to the Corner Bar (usually for a late dinner) from time to time over the years and the food never disappoints. Portions are generous and prices fair. Their small plates are a nice way to sample a variety of food with friends.
google avatar

Julie G.

Yelp
We came in to catch our breath from the cold thinking of getting a drink and dessert and instead ended up sharing the salmon burger that was epic. Highly recommend and the service was wonderful. A gem for a cold night and I'm sure fun on other occasions too.

Valerie M.

Yelp
The servers are really awesome, but the food and drinks too forrrrever to come out. i The food wasn't as good as it was when I came a couple years ago, but decent. The calamari was tasty. I want to point out again, the serving staff is amazing!!!
google avatar

Sharon F.

Yelp
Amazing! We had the wings, Waldorf salad, salmon salad, chicken sandwich & salmon sandwich. Everything was outstanding! We did have to wait a while for our food but we were sitting outside and didn't mind. The waiter came with bill and said it was taken care of!

Keith M.

Yelp
There Steek and Fries are as good as the Steak Frites you get in nice café in Paris, France.
google avatar

Yelp
We couldn't get a table at Spruce & Fish for the time we wanted, so I asked the hostess if she coukd make a suggestion and am I glad she recommended The Corner Bar (TCB). We got one of the 3 small tables upstairs with 2 large tvs to watch football and baseball. I had the salmon on kale (after appetizers of brussel sprouts, calamari and truffle fries). I washed it down with a Breckenridge and a Key Lime pie chaser. The Hotel Boulderado has a cool vibe. The service was terrific. Can't wait to go back.
google avatar

Yelp
The Good: The location is amazing, inside of the historic Boulderado hotel on Pearl Street in Boulder. I love the neat old building, I love the historic bar, I love people-watching outside on the busy corner. One of my favorite spots in Boulder to grab a drink, sit at the gorgeous antique bar, or people-watch on the patio. Great happy hour drink specials. The Bad: I wish the food was better. I wish the food was good. I with the food was decent. We come here all the time but have learned to not eat anything but the fries. Not worth it to eat here, check out Zanmai Sushi next door! The Food: Pretty standard hotel-food, nothing good but the fries unfortunately. The Service: Never been stellar
google avatar

Morgan T.

Yelp
All hail Yelp for leading us to this gem after a long day of snowshoeing. HH Mediterranean Plate and Pinot ($1 off select wines by the glass) and the Sweet Potato Sandwich hit thespot. (add chicken!). Get in here for a televised game if you're of the less-rowdy laid back mood. Food and drinks took a bit to get out but we were in no rush and blame hanger for even whining about that in the least bit. Sweet spot!
google avatar

Alice K.

Yelp
I think the one saving grace to the Corner Bar, is that the location is very convenient to any Performing Arts-goers. The food isn't great but will be pricey (for CO standards at least). I would recommend it as a place to come and have some drinks - maybe before a show, or after. Then, drive to McDonald's and get yourself 20 McNuggets for $5. Yes, I keep it classy, and no, unfortunately (and sadly), this was not sponsored by McD.)
google avatar

Sean H.

Yelp
The location is great and they have a beautiful outdoor seating area. The bar looks beautiful and they are attached to a great hotel. Unfortunately, as like other reviewer's experience, the service is slow and spotty. I was aware coming here, but a little slower than I even expected. I think they are just understaffed. The food is fine, with nothing truly memorable. If your patient and being outside is your focus, could be a good choice given likely tables available on OpenTable. If I had an important meal or business meal I would look elsewhere.

Jerry C.

Yelp
Just stopped in for happy hour. Arrived at 2:55, didn't get to place an order until 3:05. Drinks arrived at 3:15. Check showed no happy hour discount and we were informed that happy hour discounts are applied based on the time we arrived. Out of calamari and muscles. Service was pleasant but slow. Won't be back.
