LA's Best Pop-Ups Of 2020

"There’s no meal more comforting for me than chicken parmesan. So in a year as sh*tty as this one, I was very happy to discover Parm Boyz’s residency at The Corner Door in Culver City. The chicken parm is pounded thin and extremely crispy, but is still moist, and the eggplant parm nails that happy medium between too-dry and too-mushy. Both versions take me back to some of my favorite meals from my childhood, eating tremendous Italian-American food in Boston’s North End, and I suspect this isn’t a coincidence, since the chef is from Lynn, MA, just north of Boston. They also put their own spin on other classics - like garlic bread stuffed with burrata, mascarpone, and cream cheese, and a Caesar salad with brown butter croutons - that set the mood just as well as the red checkered tablecloths. - BK" - brant cox, kat hong, brett keating, james montgomery

Los Angeles’s 9 Best Gin and Tonics to Drink Now | Eater

"This cozy interior of one of Culver City’s favorite cocktail bars begs you to stay a while (the sidewalk seating isn’t bad, either). A surprisingly substantial food menu ranges from eats like oysters to short-rib tacos to an 8-ounce dry-aged rib-eye, but it’s the deft hands behind the bar that keeps the neighborhood regulars coming back. Stick to tried-and-true basics like a drafted Botanist G&T with citrus (why make G&Ts one at a time when you can simply put them on draft?)." - Vox Creative

12 Best Margaritas in Los Angeles | Eater

"A big focus on cocktails makes this Culver City bar stand out, but anytime favorites like a burger and fries and fish tacos don’t hurt either. You’re here for the drinks, of course, and you can always expect the ‘tenders to do something interesting with the classic, like their summer-ready take on the margarita, the Kelly’s Caddy, which incorporates Espolón blanco, lime, bell pepper shrub, and Grand Marnier. Whether you stop by for discounted fare at happy hour or you wander in late, you’ve got nothing to lose but time." - Vox Creative

Google
what a great place! i went for happy hour and the had some solid drinks at some solid prices the food was good but i think the deal magic lies in the atmosphere. going to go back soon to try their lions main martini!

Google
Great cocktails, good happy hour (limited options) and really cozy comfortable vibe. Good music and trendy ambience. Would definitely recommend a visit!

Google
My friend told me this is a great neighborhood spot so I strolled over an hour before sunset.... I wanted to relax after a high-stimuli day of work and looked forward to winding down from work mode... Unbeknownst to me... a group of 30+ people came for a film networking event (!) a few minutes after I walked in. I had to leave much earlier than I wanted to b/c the atmosphere was not what I wanted or expected (but I am glad this film networking group was so well-attended - none of them knew each other!). I had the chicken skewers - they were tasty! Matt and Miguel were wonderful. Very friendly and attentive. There are very cozy and comfy velvet couches... I look forward to coming come back with friends and/or a date :)

Google
Wish I could give ten stars. It’s rare to find a cozy spot that has friendly service, great cocktails, AND a good happy hour, PLUS fantastic music. What more could you want? Oh yeah, they also have tasty food specials for happy hour. We got patatas bravas that were perfectly cooked, and Rose Margaritas (“Rosarita Margarita”), which were delicious. Bonus items: 1) small patio outside: 2) great lighting and decor; 3) live music on some nights; 4) attentive service, without pretentiousness. In summary: cozy as hell…just pop in!

Neha Sadruddin

Google
Great vibe! We came for happy hour and got the rosarita and mule. Both were pretty good especially for the price. We also got the skewers which were on the sweeter side but tasty nonetheless. Will defo come back!

Google
I enjoyed the environment, the music choice was excellent. The drinks really stood out. I chose the Castor and Pullox and highly recommend it. I ordered the lamb neck tacos.. and I kind of expected more. There wasn't enough flavor to hide the gameness of the lamb. And all I could taste was the fell of the lamb. Other than that, the burger was excellent and the wings had great flavor. I enjoyed my brief visit and will be back again.

Google
Wow what a great place with amazing drinks. Matt and another gentleman at the bar who was working tonight (I wish I got his name!) were so sweet and welcoming. An excellent cocktail bar with immaculate vibes. I will be back!

Google
Happy hour cocktails are delicious, service is friendly and quick. Plenty of seating at the bar as well as sofas, armchairs in the open layout. Great place to have a drink before dining at the nearby restaurants.

Yelp
This is a repost from my Google review: I want to shoutout Kieran and Matt for coordinating one of the most meaningful and fun experiences I've ever had at a cocktail bar. With their help, I coordinated a two year anniversary for me and my partner that included custom drink menus that they printed out with our picture on them. The attention to detail and genuine willingness to ensure we had a good time was really heartfelt. Plus, the drinks were bomb. This is really their style even during normal nights, and it's the reason that this is my favorite bar in Culver (and maybe on the Westside as a whole). If you want bomb drinks, great service, and a cozy vibe, look no further.

Yelp
Thought this place was cute and really enjoyed the vibe! Lots of couches and seating and cool decor. Fun music but not so loud that it's hard to have a conversation, which can be hard to find on a Friday night. Really enjoyed the pineapple mezcal cocktails here as well!

Yelp
Ended up here one night with a friend. First time. Will not be my last. Even if I have to drive around the block looking for parking again. Even if it's busy, which it wasn't the evening I was here - don't ask which night because I'm so far behind with my reviews that I don't remember. Even if it's not quite a full menu as it's a bar that serves food, not a restaurant with bar. At least that's my take. The decor is hard to explain. A bar. Some tables off to one side. Then an area set up like a living room or lounge. Quirky. Fun. That's the vibe I felt. That's the vibe I like. Back to the parking. Street parking. Free after 6PM I think. Confirm the time. If you go by my review and get a ticket, that's on you. There's a happy hour. Two, if I remember correctly. Check the menu. I didn't take pics of it. Or maybe check their site or social media. Chose a seat at the bar. Great, friendly service. Bartender took care of the drinks and served the food (see pics). Enjoyed the food. Loved the drink. Burger hit the spot as it was cooked as requested, wasn't dry and tasted good. Fries were crispy, not under or overcooked. The drink was balanced not overpowering and considered ordering a second, but opted for dessert (elsewhere) so, passed until my next visit. What I really liked about this place was the feel like it's one where you'd go happy hour or to just hang out with friends. I don't want to go so far as to say that it feels like home - but for me, I felt comfortable enough to say that I can see myself as a regular here. Remember, to each their own.

Yelp
I was looking for a chill Saturday evening and The Corner Door did not disappoint! The bartender was super attentive and helpful, starting me off with a Margarita that was super tasty. I followed that with a glass of Sangria which was also very delicious! For food, I ordered the Patatas Bravas - very yummy. Although next time I would probably ask for a side of the garlic aoli for extra dipping pleasure. Thank you for the yummy food and drink - I will be back!

Yelp
Went on a date here once. I probably wouldn't get food here, but a good place for a weeknight first date when you are first getting to know someone. It's kind of cute but can feel a little exposed due to the layout, not for someone who is going to be overly shy.

Yelp
Stumbling through this bar around 11:30pm on a Friday night and it is a jewel . Visiting Cali for the weekend and it is so hard to find a bar opens pass 11pm near Santa Monica, luckily we found the Corner door. When I walked in, I was surprised how cute the place is. It is decorated with Christmas theme and have 4 Christmas trees with a lot of Christmas decorations. Also, the drinks were delicious . If you are looking for a Christmas theme bar, come and check it out

Yelp
Great spot for a cozy Happy Hour and catch up with friends. Can't beat the Burger and old fashioned HH deal

Yelp
The staff was extremely friendly and attentive... the drinks were truly some of the best I've had in Los Angeles. I also asked for a mocktail and they made my friend a lovely NA drink. The ambience is great all hours of the day. I can't wait to go back especially on a night they have a DJ!!

Allegra H.

Yelp
Kieran is amazing, this place has a great vibe. Get the yakatori and get your drinks from Kieran! So fun!

Erika A.

Yelp
This place is a hidden gem! It's perfect for a date or with a group of friends. It's not too loud so you're able to hear each other while enjoying good drinks. Highly recommend you visiting the corner door.

Yelp
Went on a Tuesday so it was pretty empty but was the coziest vibe for a girl check in with a friend! Lots of options on drink menu, I got wine but my friend tried the Mai Guy and I had a sip and it was tasty. Great slightly upscale little bar for conversation and just cozy vibes. Loved the decor as well!
google avatar

Anna S.

Yelp
My drink was good but we only stayed for that as we wanted food and they had a pizza vendor there where you had to text your order and pay via Venmo. I forgot what my drink was called, it was first on the menu with mezcal and cucumber- very refreshing. All cocktails are $15. And the pizza pie was $20 for "gourmet" size so small.. like 4 slices. I won't be coming back- atmosphere was just off.

Michael G.

Yelp
The Corner Door is an awesome spot that strikes a delicate balance between laidback neighborhood bar and elevated cocktail lounge. Some highlights: - Cozy interior with decor that makes you want to settle in for a great conversation - Drinks are delicious, unexpected, and painstakingly prepared - Staff are friendly and hardworking, going out of their way to take care of everyone - Reasonable happy hour menu and expanding business hours A few wishes: - I hope they continue serving pizza, and experiment with other food partners - I'd also love some new beers on tap, although the ones they have are excellent Overall, I'm a big fan of this bar, and am glad it's part of our neighborhood. Everyone should give it a try!

Yelp
Best whiskey sour I have found in Culver City/ LA great service and environment as well

Yelp
The drinks were amazing. We got the cactus prick and the "better than green juice" and they were soooo good! Totally a hidden gem in La. Good service. Came on a Wednesday late night.

Yelp
it's like your cool aunt's living room who lives in hawaii and loves to party, but better! amazing neighborhood vibes, good music, cool drinks, just wish I knew about it sooner!

Yelp
This is such a small cute place located in Culver City! The decorations and the vibe here was great but I was disappointed by the food and drinks quality. Personally, I didn't enjoy the food and drinks. I ordered the Tokyo old fashioned and the mushroom risotto. The Tokyo old fashioned was bleh! The ice cube was too big. And sorry, the bartender didn't do a good job on the portion, the sweetnesses and the whisky taste wasn't right for old fashioned. The risotto wasn't well-cooked. I know risotto is supposed to be on the heavier side but this one was way too heavy and greasy. I ended up throwing up later of the night and my stomach was bothering me the next day. I'm sorry but I think I won't come back!

Yelp
Where do I begin. I loved the corner door and their previous menu. But now for some reason they are parm Boyz and boy oh boy was that a mistake. First of all everything is soaked in their marinara which is identical to the 5 gallon buckets of marinaras that hospital cafeterias use in their buffets. I'm not being facetious at all. This stuff certainly comes out of a big plastic bin and it's the most disgusting sauce money can buy. It's unfortunate because the chicken was fried well but then it's doused in this bargain brand jarred sauce that even looks as artificial as it tastes, not to mention every meal is around 20 dollars so you're not paying a bargain price. The fried mozzarella is terrible because it's soaked in the sauce. The meatballs, terrible, soaked in this sauce. The spaghetti, terrible, it's soaked in this sauce If you want Sams club vat of marinara spread atop over cooked pasta then this is your place to go. Otherwise do not come here, it's really embarrassing to call this Italian at all

Yelp
Turn down the damn music. People live around here!!! We shouldn't have to listen to pounding base at 1am!

Yelp
Went here during the Parmboyz collab! Being from Jersey, I missed good Italian food and saw this place on Instagram so I had to check it out. We were seated cute outside area with lights but unfortunately next to the door for the bathroom. I had to order on my phone but it took a while after glitching a few times. We got the dream bread, fried mozzarella, and chicken parm. The dream bread is to die for! I've never seen it tasted anything like it. However, it looks bigger in pictures than it did in real life so I wish they would've served 2 for the price. Still, pretty good Italian food for LA.

Yelp
Review for HH only! I've wondered about this place for a while but did not find my way over here until recently. Came for HH one Wednesday night with a friend. One great thing about Corner Door is that the HH is available throughout the whole restaurant, not just the bar! The bar and big communal table were full so we snagged a table inside. FOOD: - spicy fried chicken sliders - not spicy at all, so that was a bit disappointing. Good crispy and portion size and the buns are nice and soft. - fish and chips - did not come out very hot and the fish wasn't tender or flaky. Fries were solid, nothing to complain about. - short rib poutine - I don't eat short rib so I picked around it. The fries were fine to me =/ - tempranillo wine - not bad for HH and a decent sized pour SERVICE: Friendly and food came out relatively quickly. Didn't have a problem with signaling our server for anything we needed. VENUE/PARKING: The space is pretty cool and it wasn't very crowded or dead on a weekday night. Bathrooms are clean and street parking was easy to find right on Washington for free! Glad I finally tried it, but don't think it would be at the top of my list for HH places in the area.

Yelp
I can't speak highly enough of this place! The food was incredible, the drinks were out of this world, and the staff was amazing! We had almost everything on the menu, the mozzarella brick was INSANE, the chicken parm, the drinks! You just have to go to see for yourself :)

Yelp
I originally came here with a friend to check out their menu via dineLA but we called an audible. Located on W. Washington, there is a lot of street and neighborhood parking. After 6pm, the two front meter spots will be open but those are reserved for valet. Once inside, there's seating all around and a bar to your right. Before my friend arrived, I went to the bar to get a drink - Tito's and soda. Mixed drinks range from $8-$11. We were able to make our reservation through Open Table and we were seated as soon as my friend arrived. The menu is short and straight to the point. There's a charcuterie section, starters/appetizers, main dishes and desserts. We ordered the following: -Starters Avocado Toast French Fries Carbonade Pork Belly Sliders -Main Course Dry Aged Burger Mushroom Pappardelle Remember this is for 2 people. The starters came out first and were delicious. The avocado toast was tasty but it might just be enough for 1-2 people [measured around 2 inch x 4 inches]. The pork belly sliders packed a punch since they had a lot of flavor. The pork belly was crispy and went well with the kim chi. These sliders came in three. The French Fries Carbonade were delightful. They were topped with beer braised beef, slow roast garlic aioli and farm house cheese. We couldn't get enough of this dish. After the tasty starters, we both got the main dishes and decided to share. The burger was around 8 ounces and was incredible. The bun complimented cheddar, arugula, caramelized onions and truffle aioli. The taste and all the burger went all so well together. By the way, we got the burger cooked medium. The mushroom pappardelle was also divine. I am not sure if the pasta was handmade but it was this thicker pasta but went well with the will mushrooms, brown butter and truffle. It was a simple dish but very good. All in all, all the dishes we tried were very good. We both had a cocktail so the bill came out to be around $50 per person which wasn't bad for all the food we ordered. I am not sure why this place is a 3.5 stars but word is they got a new chef. I'd definitely recommend it.

Yelp
The Minor Incident was the best cocktail in LA ... save maybe the Avocado Project... Great stuff all around here. Mucho good cocktails. Liam, is a great manager. Outstanding service and understanding how drinks are priced! Add a star!

Yelp
In a word: downhill. In two words: downhill fast This place used to be great and then management bolted for greener pastures. If ownership is ok with the current state of affairs, I can understand why Came in for some drinks. Took forever to even get a menu or a hi. After that, it never happened. Anything. Nothing. Nothing happened... unless you want to count watching the bartender, quite literally, walk around in circles doing god knows what while she had a perfectly good (and sweet) barback cutting garnishes. Asked for a manager. No one ever showed up. So you suck now. Got it. Went to detour and got served promptly. Guess I don't have to walk the few extra feet anymore.

Yelp
T H E G I S T..Pretty awesome experience and a definite hipster approved location. Currently running an Alice in Wonderland inspired menu with thematic illustrations spread throughout the pages. This menu theme won't last forever(maybe for another 6 months if its successfully adopted for the L.A. scene) or until they roll out with the next theme. However, its best to check it out now before they move on..just in case. Reservations are recommended. F O O D Nothing like the good ole American gastropub fare! Even though they specialize in drinks they still have a good selection of appetizing mouthwatering morsels. I would recommend looking over the attached menu..if in case the HH menu is more of what you are looking for, you can then save a Hamilton or two. Items here can get pricy the hungrier you are so its best to come with others to share a variety of goodies. We've tried: Little Oysters(2 for $3.5), Baby Artichokes($12), Avocado Toast($14), Lobster Tacos($17), Skirt Steak($26), and the House Burger($19). For drinks, we ordered: the Snowdrop($14), Mushroom Valley($18), and the most popular drink..the Drink Me Punch($18). Meal Highlights: LITTLE OYSTERS - Although these vary by market selection, the ones we had were fairly larger than what we were expecting. They were also quite tasty. I was tempted to get another round but held off. Luckily, the next side of sides came out right away. BABY ARTICHOKES - Delicious! I'm usually not a big fan of artichoke hearts but their preparation well done. The waitress also recommended it as well. AVOCADO TOAST - Has quite a unique presentation. Very colorful with the added fruit slices (what we thought was sliced watermelon). Also quite tasty HOUSE BURGER - Nothing much to it..just a good ole yummy hamburger to fill the hunger. The Dijon horseradish aioli was a good touch and the fries were perfectly crunchy. MUSHROOM VALLEY - I'm not much of a drinker, but when I do it better be worth snapping. The delivery of this drink is quite a scene. The drink comes atop a plastic wooden log slice, encased within a glass dome filled with smoke. As the waitress waits upon your cue, then she lifts the dome in a elaborate style to make the smoke ripple in waves as it dissipates revealing the drink along with 2 edible macarons on a bed of Oreo dirt. Make sure to have some dirt and mushrooms as you drink it..they go really well together. Word of warning it is quite strong. DRINK ME PUNCH - The famed drink itself. Instagram worthy like the mushroom valley but not as strong of a drink in comparison. It's actually quite sweet. S E R V I C E We arrived about 20mins before our reservation but they let seated us anyways..which was nice. Gotta mention that it was a Tuesday so we weren't really expecting any crowds to begin with. The server had a kind and welcoming Cheshire smile and served us immediately. Tending to us often throughout the serves. It was quite busy but it did pick up around 9pm or so. As far as I could see, each of the tables were neat, clean and tidy..the staff was on top of their game. P A R K I N G Mostly street parking. After a certain hour, I believe the metered parking stalls are free (don't mail me your parking ticket if I'm wrong)...make sure to check all signs. A T M O S P H E R E A very moody candle lit intimate scene. Although, it makes photography very difficult(make sure you train in low lighting situations lol). I'd say it would make for a good date spot or in my case to celebrate a close friends birthday. :) ...hmmm...not sure why my reviews are getting longer. Sorry for the ramblings. :D

Yelp
I was in the area to go to one of my favorite places - ChocoVivo - but we wanted to catch a quick bite beforehand. So, since it was two doors down, we stopped in to check out the Happy Hour menu. The food menu had a selection of cheeses, salad, avocado toast, smoked salmon terrine, poutine, pork belly sliders, fish and chips, and sticky toffee pudding. We tried the french fries "carbonade", which was their version of poutine. It had beer braised beef, garlic aioli, and a farm house cheddar spread. We also got the fish and chips, and the avocado toast with burrata. Skip the fish and chips. There was essentially no fish, just a thick, crispy, fried skin. The fries, which were the same ones in the poutine, were fine. The cheese concoction wasn't very pleasing on the poutine. It may have been the combination of their house cheese spread and the garlic aioli mixed that didn't complement each other well. The best thing we tasted was the avocado toast, which had a nice helping of burrata, diced avocado along with pickled radish, sea salt and olive oil and it was topped with arugula. This was very well-seasoned and the burrata was a nice addition to the avocado. While the food wasn't the best, the space is inviting. We sat at the communal hi-top table and ended up conversing until after Chocovivo closed! Corner Door is a cute place, but the HH options we tried need some work and service was average. The reviewers are right...3 stars.

Yelp
Thank you PARMBOYZ for coming to Culver City! I had the pleasure of first experiencing their amazing chicken parm at Ronan and was beyond thrilled when I heard they were moving to my neighborhood. Dining is available outside or you can order take-out. We decided to dine there and the hostess took our temperature then seated us at our table. They had plenty of heaters as the sun set so no worries there. The food was delicious and piping hot and the chianti went perfectly with my meal. I can't wait to go back!

Yelp
This place was decent, but it felt like so many other bars I've been to in the area. Shocker-Craft Cocktails and Brussel Sprouts on the menu. Although I love both of these items, this place needs something else to make it stand out. The drinks were well made and service was fair. I don't have any complaints, but I also feel this place is kind of forgettable.

Yelp
Nice casual place to grab a bite and a cocktail. Met a friend here last week during Happy Hour and took advantage of their HH drinks and bites. Since I enjoy foie gras from time to time, we ordered the Chicken Liver & Foie Gras Mousse. The mousse was very smooth and creamy, and with that layer of (duck) fat on top mixed into the mousse, it added extra depth of flavor to it. It was delicious, and plenty in that we ordered more bread for it. The Smoke Salmon Terrine was good but not conducive putting on the toasted bread to eat. The salmon didn't cut easily, and the terrine quickly fell apart. The flavors, though, were good. One problem with the toast that came with the mousse and the terrine, they were not consistent with the toasting/grilling. There were pieces where a 1/4 of a slice would be charred on the verge of being burnt. French Fries Carbonade was pretty tasty from the combination of the beer braised beef, garlic aioli and cheese. I know others didn't care for the combination, but we enjoyed the dish. My least favorite of what we ordered were the Spicy Pork Belly Sliders...they were mildly spicy but were a bit too much on the sweet side. The pork belly did not have any fat to it, so it seemed a little dry. Our server was polite and efficient. I'm just not a fan of places where the servers either squat down by your table to take your order, or sit down in an empty chair next to you to do that as well. I understand the casual atmosphere of the place, but I prefer traditional service methods. One of the runners for our food simply plopped the dishes on our table without letting us know what he's serving. 3.5 stars, rounding it up to 4 since the mousse was delicious, we enjoyed 3 of the other 4 dishes we ordered.

Yelp
Had greatly anticipated trying Parm Boyz but hopes were dashed on first bite. Sauce is just bad. No point in going on from there. What are you thinking?

Yelp
Corner Door is one of my regular spots in Culver City. I ventured into this little gem one evening looking to get my oyster fix, after my typical oyster place closed early on me. It must have been fate because I never stopped going back! The manager, Liam, is great and it's always a pleasure when he's working behind the bar. I typically sit at the bar but there is a comfy seating area around the bar that would be a great spot to sit with a date or friends. They have changed their menu recently, which I'm a little sad about because I loved the avocado toast (please bring back the avocado toast... PLEASE!!!) But the new menu is to die for. I definitely recommend the lamb tacos!!! And of course, the oysters! The current drink menu is based off of astrological signs which is neat. I tried the gemini & the virgo. I loved the gemini however, i wasn't a fan of the virgo (but honestly, who likes us virgos anyway?) I hear they might be opening up for brunch soon, which I'm very excited about! Maybe they will put the avocado toast in the brunch menu?? All in all, this place is phenomenal! The owners and staff are super cool and the food + drinks are top notch. I recommend Corner Door to all my friends!

Yelp
Love that this place is walking distance from my house, and that it's small and quaint, unfortunately it stops shorts at their very limited menu and some items that just don't hit the mark. My friends and I decided to order several things on the menu for all of us to try. We ordered the charcuterie, the risotto, the Cauliflower, the octopus and the chicharrones. I'll start with the good... The chicharrones are amazing. Growing up eating chicharrones that ripped open your mouth, really makes me appreciate these deep fried delights. Dare I say it's air spun pork rinds. They melt in your mouth. Next, the Collie flower. Nice flavor. Well done. Then we get to the octopus. Flavorless and not so tender. Octopus even a little tough is not a good thing. We all took one bite and that was enough to know that it wasn't worth it no matter how much we paid for it. The risotto. I never thought I could have a risotto this bland and flavorless I was quite shocked. It really lacked any kind of character. I would've been satisfied had there been at least one mushroom in there. Last but not least, the Charcuterie. I must say I wouldn't have been so disappointed had it not cost $28. It literally looked like they took a couple of pieces of meat, a couple of pieces of cheese and spaced them out along this dinner plate to make it look like it was worth it. The apricot paste, I think it was apricot, was about two bites and they must've counted the nuts, there were so few. It was quite an insulting dish. My advice to the corner door, take a look at your menu and do some self reflection. Your place is great the wait staff seemed like they cared, but you just didn't quite get there. And for the prices you're charging, you really need to get there and beyond to keep the locals coming back. And lastly, BRING THE BRUSSEL SPROUTS BACK! It was the one thing you guys had going for ya.

Yelp
Bought a new car today & was in the mood for a celebration drink. Couldn't have chosen a better place, super friendly bartender. I let him know what I liked & he made it happen. Delicious!!! Don't hesitate to stop by, won't regret it!

Yelp
Came here for food and drinks. I spent $110 for two people just for dinner and drinks, which, for an establishment of this size, is crazy expensive. The chicken was dry and flavors didn't go well with the potatoes. The mussel and chorizos (they didn't have clams that day) weren't good because the mussels were not fresh. The only items on the menu we enjoyed were the deviled eggs and maybe the brussel sprouts but they were a little too tangy for me. Seating here is first come-first serve. It does get crowded. Maybe during happy hour, when one can get the burger, my impression of this place would change, but for regular dinner, this place is simply overpriced bad food.

Yelp
Happy hr is a rip-off. And it feels as though it's carefully designed to deceive. While this is not uncommon, this place does it in a more seedy, shameless, and Vegas-style way. 1st. The happy hr mixed drinks are watered down w/ a lot of cheap ice. There's not really much drink in the drinks. I switched to beer because at least I knew what I was getting. 2nd. They will ask you if you want fries w/ the happy hr burger. Since fries are not a menu item, the question leads you to believe they are one side option, not an add-on. The fries are $5, the burger $10. So, $15 (full price) for a happy-hr-sized burger and fries. The burger is an obvious, but laughable, rip-off of the Father's Office Burger. And you are never provided a napkin or any utensils. 3rd. They padded the bill with 1 drink I didn't order. This might've been an honest mistake, but when combined with everything else that seems purposefully designed to deceive, it's hard not to wonder. Anyway, if you're looking for a happy hr that makes you wonder what you just spent $85 dollars on ... this is your spot! Enjoy.

Yelp
We came here for happy hour on a week day afternoon when the place was empty. The service wasn't very friendly, but it was attentive, and they were nice enough to let us bring our infant son in, in his stroller. The lounge-y couch area was very cozy and comfortable. The happy hour prices weren't the best deals, but the food was good.

Yelp
I totally like it here. It's Saturday and didn't know the offer happy hour! Love the $5 mini fish tacos! Love the french fries! If I lived in Culver city this would be "my spot." I would come back in a heartbeat... Had gin with eucalyptus and coconut garnished with a friggin Rose! Delicious!. Love that it's "mom and pop!" Runs by sweet millennials ass far as I know. Not a doggone chain with pre packaged food and drinks.

Yelp
3.5, since I know how much a .5 can make or break a situation and this is definitely one of those where they deserve the extra .5. The Corner Door has been on my list to try (which grows longer by the minute) for some time and I was finally in the hood with an appetite recently, so made a resi via the Yelp app for that same night about a half hour after discovering that I was starving. That process was super easy and simple. The restaurant was not as bustling as I had expected, but it was a Tuesday night, so I was happy that because of the sparse bodies in the restaurant, there was absolutely no wait when we arrived earlier than our reservation time. The staff was friendly and efficient. The menu had some things worth pondering and I think it would be a great place to go with a handful of dishes so you can play a little musical chairs with the dishes so you could try a variety. I went with the GHOSTBUSTER ($11) for my adult beverage. The price and the taste were 5-star. I loved the cocktail and was extremely sad when I had sucked the glass dry. The bourbon, peach bitters, habanero cordial, lemon, and ginger beer combined for a tart but sweet affair. It was delightful. I shared the brussels sprouts ($11) with a friend and I'm glad we ordered them because I always enjoy seeing each restaurant's spin on them now that they grace practically every menu. I love the addition of feta on these bad boys but they were a little too drowned in a sweet substance for my taste (I like to taste the fried and roasted preparation). I ordered the fried chicken ($11) for my solid that evening. And while a tall order to execute to perfection since everyone has their own idea of how fried chicken should be done, this one was a bountiful dish of poultry to say the least. Three plump no-bone breasts full of meat. I loved the crispiness of the exterior. The first one I tried had a weird chewy texture that freaked me out a bit, but I just moved that piece aside and tried the other two, which were plump and juicy and caused no look of surprise or angst on my face. The Sriracha creme fraiche did lure me to this dish over others and it wasn't as great as it sounds but was a nice cool creamy addition to a few bites of the chicken when I chose to lather it on. The bill was brought to us before inquiring about dessert, which was foolish, as we're not the kind of table to refuse such a thing. We sent it back and asked for the pecan sandies ($8), as that is not something you see on dessert menus everyday. The cookies came with a scoop of maple mascarpone ice cream on top (very creamy, very rich), which was a nice complement to the shortbread flavor and crumbly nature of the cookies, as well as the raspberry coulis. Affordable fare, which I appreciate, and definitely worth a visit, but I think next time I'll be more strategic with my ordering or my visits to the westside and hit them up on Sunday night burger R&D or Monday night grilled cheese R&D.

Yelp
The short version: Meh. A solid three star place. The service: superb The atmosphere: hipsterish yet trendy The food: not bad, but not delicious either. The long version: My boyfriend and I went out to dinner with one requirement: I wanted a charcuterie and cheese board and a glass of wine. The pictures of the food looked pretty good so we decided to try it... We entered at 8pm on a Saturday. Over half the restaurant was empty--including a large community table and several booths. Two staff members conferred for a sec and seated us at a two-top in between a large party and another couple. I checked the wine list, saw a cabernet and ordered. The wine came right away-- extremely sweet and completely underwhelming. We ordered the corn (cilantro, butter and chili), charcuterie board, Brussels sprouts, and burger, figuring we could always order more if we were still hungry. The Brussels sprouts and corn come out... Brussels sprouts were tasty, but soggy and lacking in overall ideal texture. The corn was still on the cob, and lacked the spiciness of the chili powder promised on the menu. The charcuterie board arrived--no cheese. Crap. Okay, I should have asked if it included cheese, but at 18$, I kinda expected for the damn thing to include cheese. The waitress was highly attentive and asked how everything was... I asked about the lack of cheese and she said she would see what she could do... she came back with three slices of feta cheese on a plate and said that was all that was slicable in the kitchen. She called it ricotta, but whatever-- she tried!! 5 stars for service. The burger arrives... see picture below. Burger is on white bread toasted and crust less with potato chips on the side. I left my wine undrunk on the table--a first, as my bf pointed out. We are not a couple who leaves food unfinished, but we felt no desire to finish any of the dishes. Overall a pretty underwhelming food experience. If I return it will only be to try the cocktails, which everyone seemed to be enjoying. Again, the service was amazing. The food is not worth anyone's time. I recommend going to waterloo and city (restaurant next door) then hitting up corner door for drinks afterwards.

Yelp
Nice place, good atmosphere, servers are attentive kinda. We had good drinks but the food.... not good at all , I had the clams pasta, it was the saltiest food I've ever had , I was extremely hungry and was really looking forward my food. The portions are small comparing to the amount that they charge and the quality.. well it was too salty to figure out if it is good or not? I may return but definitely not for food. I was gonna tell the server about the food but I thought she might not pass it on!

Yelp
The setting was dimly lit but it is a great place to have a drink and dinner with friends. It's one of those more elegant restaurants in the area, while still maintaining a sense of casualness. I ordered the roasted chicken. I was impressed by the unique flavors and the use of couscous in their dish. The dish borrows ingredients from different cultures. It's definitely a dish I would recommend. Service was exceptional as well.

Yelp
Came here for a late bite because the Detour Cafe was closed. B-: Chicken slider - maybe because I just had some awesome crispy fried chicken at the Attic in LB, this act was tough to follow B+: King Crab tacos - love the freshness of the crab and the little hard shell tacos, sauce was bland B+: Bruschetta - pretty interesting. Large chunks of peeled tomatoes on a slice of bread, these tomatos were bursting with flavor, very sour, we suspect these have been soaked for that extra sourness umph Cool place, food was ok, may/may not repeat.

Yelp
4 Stars cause that's the top for a new place in my book because each time is better than the last and I like it as a great "Local" bar/restaurant without too many tourist who seek out 5-star only. A little noisy and crowded after work, but it dies down. Try the signature drinks! . Cheers! E!

Yelp
Came in on a Sunday night for some late dinner and drinks. Small, cool, casual, and local bar. There's not a lot of seating area. It's meant to be more of a small-intimate group. Good music section playing in the background. Not too loud, enough to keep the crowd entertained and soft enough to carry a conversation with others. Service was really good. Our server, Patrick was attentive and informative. He even wrote on my to-go box, "lunch" n "dinner." Haha. Sprouts: it wasn't too bad, but a bit on the sweet side. I'm spoiled by Baco Mercat's Sprouts that nothing really beats them. Roasted Chicken: Full of herb flavor. Cooked well and juicy, not oily. I loved the couscous and yogurt combo. Went well together. If I'm in the Culver City area, I wouldn't mind coming back. Cheers!

Yelp
Honestly, and who starts there review that way anyways. But Yea Honestly I've been in this area for quite some time and this spot has it all. Good Drinks, good Music, Good Food, and good energy. If your looking for a spot to come by and be yourself and share some times with some good patrons come by and get away from the LA where no one speaks to each other. You can come here and converse with any of the staff and if your nice and cordial about it you might make a new friend or two. Try it because what else are you going to do... Keep going to the place you've always gone and never explore? Get out and come meet us. Your first point of contact can be a bartender named Charlie. Or a friend of mines Named Liam. Or a Bartendress named Anna you can't go wrong. See you there. I'll probably be drinking at the bar.

Yelp
So a friend was celebrating getting out of the hospital, and wanted to try this place. With trepidation, I agreed. What I hadn't realized is that there's a new owner. This time, when we two old guys came in, we received a friendly greeting from the bartender. He ran down the specials for us. My friend went for the ten buck burger and beer, and enjoyed it greatly. I too, had a beer, and then we thought about having some tequila. They have several were unfamiliar, so the bartender spent a few minutes with us, telling us the different characteristics of each, asking what we liked, and then gave us recommendations. So we really enjoyed ourselves. We'll be going back.

Yelp
Packed on a Thursday night, this place is LOUD! But the food is solid. The place was absolutely buzzing between 8:30 to 10p but after that, the crowd died down and it was a much more pleasant experience. First off, the lobster and shrimp bolognese is da bomb! Thick and luxurious and just absolutely flavorful. I regret getting this dish later in the night when I was somewhat full and could only nibble. But there was so much to choose from including the delectable chicken liver and foie gras mousse as well as the amazing banh mi. Plus the cocktails were superb and the service, attentive. My only gripe was how loud and crowded it was for a weeknight. Definitely make reservations on any night as they seem to be packed all the time. This is a little spot to which we will definitely return.
