The 25 Best Restaurants In Santa Barbara - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"The Daisy looks like a boutique market—and the back section technically is—but this all-day spot on State Street is actually where you want to be eating brunch under a yellow umbrella. Located in the Victorian Court, it has a big patio and a high-ceilinged dining room full of people in sundresses or athleisure drinking wine and picking at mezze platters. (Hello, sesame lavash and a dilly trout dip with a rainbow of turmeric cauliflower, pickled onions, and radish.) The sandwiches, like the smoked brisket banh mi, are hefty and satisfying, and there are just as many options for vegans, like the chickpea salad and the pickled beet." - brant cox, sylvio martins, cathy park

The Best Restaurants in Santa Barbara, According to Eater Editors | Eater LA

"For an easy Mediterranean-ish lunch, brunch, or dinner, head to the Daisy on the far side of State Street. Here, diners will find dishes like falafel served with olive-oil-pooled hummus and herby zhoug; lemony chickpea sandwiches with avocado and tahini harissa dressing; mezze plates, fish plates, salads, and toasts; and dinner fare like lamb and beef kofta or a smoked half chicken with a black lentil-feta-tomato salad, zhoug, and tomatillo sauce. The bright, minimalist dining room is conducive to solo meals or a spread to share with the family." - Mona Holmes

"Johnny Nunn’s restaurant Daisy Cafe is going through yet another rebrand, its second this year. Instead of focusing on breakfast fare, Daisy Bar and Cafe will only serve a weekend brunch, instead focusing on dishes like peel-and-eat shrimp by the pound, potato-crusted oyster po’boys, fried chicken, and oysters on the half shell. Google
Best falafel in Santa Barbara (dare I say)! Made an impromptu stop for lunch at The Daisy and enjoyed every moment of the meal. Plenty of vegan and vegetarian options! You can tell they prepare the ingredients and care about the quality of the food - everything was super fresh. Also, I really appreciated how clean the staff kept the restaurant, even during busy periods. Everyone we interacted with from ordering to being served was extremely friendly and helpful. This place is food done right…simple, fresh, but made with passion. Chef’s kiss!

Google
Light, fresh and creative food, executed flawlessly! Good outdoor seating too (there's more in the back if the front is full). The restaurant is in the middle of a very touristy area so we weren't expecting much, but ended up enjoying every bite. The sandwiches were extremely flavorful (with good veggie options) as was everything else - down to the seasoning on the housemade pickles. Next time we're in SB, this will definitely be on the itinerary.

Google
The Daisy is to be loved, for it is entirely wonderfully delicious menu! We’ve gone to The Daisy 6 times and each meal has been fresh, interesting, tasty and healthy. The portions are a bit too big but I think the owners will work that one out. The atmosphere is comfortable, clean, hip and inviting. The staff are friendly, effective, professional, and efficient. The pricing is a bit high, but I get it—food inflation. I will definitely go back and I recommend that you go there too.

Google
What a letdown. The food was honestly quite disappointing—poorly prepared and lacking in quality. The burger was oversized to the point that everything slid out of the bun, and the patty had an unpleasant aftertaste. The ham sandwich was mediocre at best: the ham was overly salty, and the bread was cold, not crusty, and tasted stale. The banh mi was passable, but nothing special, and the bread was oddly chewy. Overall, it felt like a waste of money, and I genuinely don’t understand the high ratings this place has received.

Google
The Daisy is very spacious and airy. It felt really nice to settle down and wait for the food to arrive. We ordered at the counter, got a number and then a server brings the order. I ordered a BLT but asked them to hold the bacon and sub avocado, which they did. And my sandwich was so good! Great bread, heirloom tomatoes, big chunks of avocado, crisp little gem lettuce and a perfect aioli. All our food was delicious.

Google
Good food options. It's a bit pricey, but quality is better than most, and the portion size has improved. Burger is a bit bland. Needs seaoning or sauce to make it more unique. Ribs and fries are excellent. Cookie was way too salty.

Google
This little restaurant was very chic, clean modern but homey at the same time. A little pricey for what it was, but everything was fresh and tasty. It was raining outside so we sat inside at a communal high top table. I would definitely come here again, just prepared to pay a pretty penny for something as simple as roasted vegetables. Lol. Service was friendly and quick! A cute little place.

Google
What a fantastic little gem of a place! My daughter and her wife are vegans, so finding a place for all of us (because I'm not) can be a challenge, but we have come to adore The Daisy for its offerings for all palates. The pickled veggies are amazing. So much so that I buy some to take home. Everything else has been wonderful and their service is elegant and efficient. There's a different vibe to this place that just makes you feel... happy. Looking for a lovely, casual restaurant with genuinely good and fresh food? Give The Daisy a try. And get the pickles!

Yelp
The service was amazing and the staff are incredibly friendly and helpful with recommendations! Truly loved the food and drink options available!

Yelp
We had early morning coffee at Daisy's and were greeted by very friendly staff. A nice little coffee place right on the water front of the Embarcadero nicely situated to take in the sea air while you enjoy your coffee. A great experience!

Yelp
Where do I begin! Went here because I heard great things about its healthy eats, went by uber about a 1/2 hour before they were closing, loved their homemade soup served with two slices of grilled sourdough bread with a tiny and perfect sprinkling of corse sea salt - HEAVEN! It didn't hurt that I sat next to the cash register and the guy on duty was very happy and good-natured. Totally Cali! The cost of the soup is high, $11 (as was the uber from the train station) but it was a chance to relax and though NO ONE sits at the Counter, the truth is, it's the coolest spot in the house! I returned the next day, different soup, different server but boy was HE helpful, great vibes!!! Suddenly, it became a pleasure to pay that $11 for soup/grilled toast. I skipped a few days and tried other Santa Barbara spots (Hello SAVOY CAFE! Now open for Dinner ) but returned here one last time. Unfortunately it was not as pleasant an experience, I was hungry and the prices here are steep given the food cost so I opted to order a group of items available on the kids menu (falafel, etc.) which is reasonably priced...the young woman at the cash register told me there'd be an "up charge of $5" since I wasn't a kid! Hey, this business has every right to set down the rules as they see fit but the thought crossed my mind that this is a not-nice practice and that...I'd rather give my money elsewhere. But I caved and offered to get that part to go. She then placed my order with her icey cold vibe - who hired her???) Plus, she offered no kindness and for THAT, I no longer felt enamored by the place. So Daisy , it's been nice but this food writer is breaking up with you...I will miss the thing that helped make even the food taste better...your phenomenal staff, when food is served with love and compassion, the customer feels it. PS I'm not sure of the young woman's name but it's not the wise-beyond-her-years brown haired staffer who reveres her Mom, SHE was awesome! The nicer staffers will remember me, I was the only one sitting at the counter, ordering your awesome soup. Thanks, I loved Saint Babs!

Yelp
Cool vibe, a little louder inside if it's busy. Great outdoor seating options as well as indoor. We had a larger group so we reserved a table inside. You order drinks and food at the counter and then food is brought to your table. Order a few different plates to share! With the exception of the lamb & beef kofta meatballs (a little dry and disappointing) everyone really enjoyed their food. The cauliflower and pea shoot fritters were outstanding and the falafel was excellent. The chicken was very good - loved the zhoug and tomatillo sauces!!

Yelp
There are a lot of things to say about The Daisy and all of them are positive. From the atmosphere to the food, everything was very aesthetically pleasing and tasted very good. We ordered at the cashier before taking a seat in their outdoor area but they have plenty of indoor seats too. I got a Peach Blossom Tea ($4.50) and my husband got their Mizuba Matcha ($6 + $0.50 for oat milk). For whatever reason, I thought my tea would come out iced but it came out hot - No big deal, it had a mild sweetness and a nice flower/peachy taste - Just like the name. The Matcha drink was barely sweetened so it was a little bitter, but it was still pleasant to drink. My husband got the Smoked Brisket Banh Mi ($19) with fries. This comes with garlic aoli, pickled carrots and daikon, cilantro, a chili lime sauce, and tons of tender meat on a baguette. I thought the flavor in the meat was subtle and that the carrot and radish could have been pickled lot longer. The bread was really good. Their fries were crispy and made fresh - Pretty hot when they first came out and they paired really well with the garlic mayo (this was super good) and ketchup they provided us. I got the Daisy BLT ($19) with salad. This comes with green heirloom tomato's, basic garlic aioli, butter lettuce and thick cuts of house smoked bacon all on two thick cuts of sourdough bread. It also came with pickles, which I really enjoyed. I love that they use butter lettuce - it adds a nice soft texture to all of the hardness of the bread and bacon. The salad (with radish shavings and cucumbers) came separately in a bowl which I appreciated and had this really nice, light and refreshing vinaigrette dressing tossed in it. Inside there are things you can buy - Soaps, canned goods, teas, spices, candles, sweets and drinks. They do have bathrooms located outside and you'll need to ask for the password.

Yelp
Doc Holliday said it best: "You're a daisy if you do..." He meant "you're top-notch". And that's exactly what The Daisy is. I wasn't surprised to learn that this is a bigtime local's favorite. Seriously farm fresh veggies with all that flavor that you've been missing; delicious local chicken and creative takes on things like FALAFEL or just a straight-up CHEESEBURGER. We had THE LITTLE GEMS SALAD / add CHICKEN SALAD, add avocado. Sure, you've HAD snap peas and radishes before, but I'd be willing to bet you've never had them this fresh. And those little fresh sprigs on the chicken salad are sharp with flavor. Loves me, loves me not...loves me, loves me not. LOVES ME! Be a daisy. EAT at The Daisy.

Yelp
The food is amazing! You can taste the home made, high quality ingredients. This is surely food not to miss out on! It's a cute stylish place with lots of tasty options and even a boutique market section. Both the inside and outside are so comfortable and beautiful to be in! Great service, great deserts! Try the chocolate chip tahini cookie!
google avatar

Yelp
The food is amazing and the ambiance is nice! The only thing I would change, is the restaurant closing in the afternoons. We have specifically stopped in Santa Barbara to eat here on our way to LA, only to find it closed in the afternoon.

Yelp
Many great things about this place and easy to give if 5 stars. There is something for everyone especially love the flavorful all plant based options. Their lemony chickpea sandwich is excellent. I spoke to the lovely owner Dominic who advised why they don't have teapots or decaf - as not many are ordered and limited space. Am so grateful had listened to our inquiries and took the time to give us feedback. The dessert look great it'd be really nice if they had a vegan option. They are considering it. This is one of new favorite spots. Easy parking. Sweet service. Excellent food. Order at counter and find nice indoor or outdoor with shade seats. Sounds like they use fresh local organic ingredients as much as possible. Dominic for your butter and eggs, love to know the source. Love that you have all plant based options...keep them coming. Thanks will be back and update this again. Thank you Dominic and team. What a great addition to sba

Yelp
Celebrated my daughter's graduation here yesterday and it was amazing. I made a reservation for our big group a few weeks ago. When we got there I requested to seat inside since it was so hot during graduation and everyone just needed the shade. They were gracious enough to make room for us. The FOOD WERE AMAZING. Everything we ordered was great. My favorite were the trout dip, tomato and burrata, brisket, fries (best one according to everyone), brisket, chicken sandwich, and fish plate. The inside of the restaurant is welcoming and calming.

Yelp
Came here for dinner. Ambience and service was fine. Reminds me of a casual /sandwich shop. Ordered the golden chicken and I was very disappointed. Presentation was fine but chicken was bland and flavorless. Basically just oil and garnished. They should brine the chicken or add a sauce on the side The lamb falafel dish was not bad. Alittle salty for me but not bad. Overall- reminds me of a more casual salad /sandwich vibe.

Yelp
Great experience. The food was super fresh and well seasoned. The meatballs were moist and had a lovely kick of spice. The place was clean beautiful warm atmosphere coupled with friendly service.

Yelp
Still favorite when I am out in Santa Barbara. I love their plant forward menu, but every bite still packs a punch. I live for the pickled plate. The veggies are all fresh, and they have somehow managed to make a beets taste not like it was just pulled fresh from the Earth -- it was late it was sweet and the brain was definitely complementing the earthy taste of the beet. The carrots had some spice to it, but nothing too much and the cauliflower was just as tasty as the other pickled vegetables. Shout out to the staff that was working that weekend because there was a little human who was just throwing bread all over the floor and they were super nice and super helpful cleaning the floors so other patrons won't slip I love that they have wine selections, fresh vegetables, that truly embrace the Californian food culture. They also have a lot of funds finds in their market pantry like tea from Alfred. Their cold salads are also available for purchase. As well as little knickknacks from momofuku and even Sanzo -- calamansi in SB whaat?

Yelp
Fresh ingredients, unique dishes, beautiful ambiance right on gorgeous State Street! Order at the counter and the servers will bring you your food.

Yelp
We came to the restaurant that offered vegan options. You order at the counter and find a table to sit. We ordered the vegan falafel plate and the chickpea sandwich. The chickpea sandwich was really good, and the vegan falafel was ok. Overall, I liked how healthy everything was. The ambiance was bright, airy, and lots of seating options for outdoor seating.

Yelp
Man I have never tried a bad bite here. The Falafel plate is a dream of a plate. Filled with light and fresh salad, pickled veggies with the perfect amount of spice, kale and cabbage salad, falafel, hummus, tzatziki, and the most perfect flat bread that's ever existed. It is HEAVEN. And so much food. My husband got the burger. It was hearty, delicious, and the fries and sauces are *chef's kiss*. There is lots of seating indoor, outdoors on the patio, and even more out on State Street. Servers are helpful and friendly. Ambience is delightful. Everything is beautiful. Parking is close and plentiful. What's not to like?! Would be back daily if I wasn't operating on a teacher's salary.

Yelp
I was so happy to step onto the patio at the entrance and find it sheltered and warm. It was so cute but it was a cooler evening and I didn't want my friends to freeze because I wanted to sit on the cute patio. We ordered at the counter and most of our food arrived amazingly fast. The meatballs and the chicken thighs took a bit longer but not unreasonably long. We shared a falafel snack and everyone thought they were delicious. I loved my spicy braised chickpeas and everyone else enjoyed their dishes as well. I look forward to visiting again.

Yelp
I've had The Daisy bookmarked since it opened, and my only regret is not coming here sooner! The whole layout of this place is so cute and inviting from the moment you walk in. I especially loved that they have plenty of seating through out the restaurant, and a cute little bar. Their marketplace offers a variety of homemade items to purchase and take with you. They have salad dressings, beet and regular hummus, tzatziki, marinated cheese, and other yummy looking condiments. I was craving a burger on my visit, so I decided to order the Daisy Cheeseburger, which also comes with fries. I really enjoyed my burger, it was perfectly cooked and a generous size. I could only finish half, so it was nice to have left-overs. The fries were probably the best I've had in a while! They were light, airy and perfectly crisp. I couldn't stop eating them. The lemon aioli dipping sauce comes with the fries, which made it even more addicting. For my drink I went with grapefruit boochcraft, which was light and refreshing. They do offer a small, but nice selection of wine and beer as well. My friend ordered the soup of the day, which was a hearty lentil soup. This was served with two pieces of crusty buttery bread. I was so happy that she shared it with me! I love lentils, and this soup was not only flavorful, but perfect for a chilly windy day. She also ordered the lemony chickpea sandwich, which was also a generous size. I didn't get a chance to try it, because I was so full from the soup, cheeseburger and fries. She said it was really good though! Overall, we were very impressed with the fast service and the presentation of each meal that we ordered. The food was made with top notch ingredients, and the staff was friendly. I can't wait to come back and try other items on the menu.

Lisa I.

Yelp
The Daisy is one of the best restaurants in Santa Barbara. The food is fresh, everything is delicious. Flatbread is a must, with whatever you choose - hummus, mezza plate, order extra. Dominic and Carmen's hard work has paid off, and they have a wonderful staff, including our favorite, William! Always ready to help with great attitudes. Happy to see a local restaurant doing so well!
google avatar

Diane M.

Yelp
Food was fresh, but I wasn't overall incredibly impressed. My meal was excessively salty and the hummus plate lacked enough hummus and labneh. iI did enjoy the pickled veggies however. I don't know if I'll be back, or if it's special enough to make a drive out to, but if you're in the neighborhood, not a bad choice.

Yelp
Found our new favorite spot in Santa Barbara when we're visiting our kids! Fantastic food, in fact my son in law who's a HUGE foodie (and ex NFL player) commented that it was the best meal he's ever had out! "I never knew I'd scoop lentils off my plate with my fingers because they are so good," he said. The brined chicken and lentils, hummus plate, burger, salad with chicken and tahini dressing was all delish. The owner Daisy is an absolute sweetheart and a master in the kitchen. She spoiled us for my daughter's birthday as we sat at the counter and had a great time. It's a rare gem to find a place that feels like family with a beautiful atmosphere, fantastic food and great prices. Wish we lived close enough to be regulars, at least our kids get to be. Thank you again Daisy and good luck with empty nesting, it's going to be ok Mama :)

Yelp
The Daisey is a must-visit for anyone looking to indulge in a culinary adventure. From the mouthwatering Marry's Tarragon Chicken Sandwich to the refreshing Little Gem Salad, every dish is crafted with love and creativity. But its not just the food that makes The Daisey shine. The staff here is truly exceptional. They are friendly, attentive, and go above and beyond to ensure your dining experience is nothing short of magical. They are always ready to answer any questions you may have and offer fantastic suggestions.

Yelp
Absolutely love the Daisy! The interior is thoughtful yet minimal and chic with a little market with cute gifts, uniquely flavored sauces, honey, and more in the back of the restaurant. Their lemonade is delicious and tart, make sure you get it with their house made syrup! It makes literally makes the lemonade sooo perfect! The banh Mi is delicious. I once got their BLT sandwich which was also amazing but not sure if they always have that. We loved the hummus for the table and my friend loved her little gems salad. Overall, it's just the perfect place for a little date or to catch up with friends with delicious food. 10/10 recommended!

Yelp
I highly recommend The Daisy! I was surprised with the generous portion sizes, quick service, variety of menu options and the relaxed ambiance. I've been three times and plan to go back again! Not to mention the have McConnell's Ice Cream.

Yelp
Amazing! Amazing! Amazing! Visiting SB for the week, found this lovely gem walking around town. The look and feel alone drew us in. So happy it did. The Bahn Mi sandwich has now been ordered and consumed 2x in one week. The chocolate walnut cookie has been consumed 2x, the IPAs went down easy as well. The service folks were so sweet and wonderful. Meet the lovely/passionate owner, charmed the heck out of us. We cannot wait to come back. The Daisy will be a staple of every SB trip from here on out.

Yelp
Amazing food, helpful staff and a great atmosphere. We and our picky kids enjoyed this spot very much. It's a must try!

Yelp
Chicken salad with avocado on grilled sourdough and hummus with grilled flat bread... I'm very happy! Don't leave without a chocolate chip cookie. And Dan's smiling widely over his bahn mi. This is a lovely place to stop while exploring State. Friendly counter service and great indoor or outdoor seating.

Yelp
I just stopped here for the first time and had a delicious garden salad. It was so fresh! The Daisy has a great atmosphere and modern interior with lots of natural light. The menu has a great selection of salads, sandwiches and Mediterranean dishes for lunch and dinner. Order at the counter and then pick a table.

T D.

Yelp
Been here twice. Both times everything was awesome. Best three things we tried were the burrata salad, banh mi sandwich, and the smoked chicken. Great wine list.

Grace B.

Yelp
Was taken to The Daisy as a thank you present by a friend last evening and had the ribs. As a "rib" afficionado, I was blown away by how delicious they are. A generous portion with their french fries and one of the best cole slaws I've ever had.
google avatar

Seaward G.

Yelp
Always a treat on Friday's to pop by and grab the best burger and fries in Santa Barbara!! Not only are the burgers cooked perfectly to your order, but the special salad selections are so fresh. There are very few places left that the staff as well as the food match a perfect dining experience. Quite enough to enjoy your conversations, but cool enough to check out the people and the special curated music. 5 stars for both the food and staff.

Patricia W.

Yelp
Wow!!! I attended a wedding welcome party and birthday celebration at the Daisy! It was insane; incredible food, wine, beer and ambiance. Great service. Best venue in town. I was blown away. Can't wait to return.

Yelp
What a nice find on our day trip to Santa Barbara. The chicken tarragon salad was outstanding!
google avatar

Yelp
Stopped here for lunch and loved it! I had a brisket sandwich- outstanding! So much flavor and delicious. My girlfriend had a special which was naan, hummus, radishes etc that she loved. Seek this place out!!!
google avatar

David H.

Yelp
Had the smoked fish appetizer which was decent. Also had chicken salad sandiwch. Friend had the banh mi. Both sandwiches were mediocre. If you've been to vietnamese restaurants with good cheap banh mi it's hard to be happy with how dry and flavorless this is. But maybe that's fine for most people in Santa Barbara. The restaurant itself is nice, like a casual but elegant vibe.
google avatar

Emily G.

Yelp
Food: have to order before to get a table. Food looks good we got 2 sandwiches BLT and BBQ sandwiches. It's a lot of to eat. Taste was ok, nothing special. Service: have to order before you have to sit. Person behind the counter was very patient and pleasant. Ambiance: it's small place inside but plenty sits outside.

Yelp
This place is amazing. The food is outstanding and beautiful. The service was helpful and friendly. I'm so sad there isn't one in San Diego. If I'm ever back in Santa Barbara I will make absolutely sure to come back for more!

Yelp
another bucket list place I scrambled to fit in my last few days in santa barbz - this place is literally so California. so focused on farm fresh ingredients. super clean white aesthetic inside. I was soaking that up. - aesthetic was to die for, romantic candle lighting, just so pretty inside and outside seating. I was surprised you order at the cash register bc it seems so much nicer than that - every single food item that came out the kitchen did look exactly the same because they have pickled vegetables and butter lettuce on like every dish, but it also did look so amazing - I ordered the trout dip, which is a starter, but it was perfect size for a meal. It came with a variety of the freshest vegetables. look how colorful that plate is. they were lightly pickled which brought the perfect tang to pair with the thick creamy, trout dip. - my friend got the falafal plate and left stunning reviews. She used to be vegan so we can trust her - trout dip was like a bold choice but I'm going through a major fish - in - any - and - all - forms phase ... not overly fishy so lowkey chicken salad like

Yelp
My favorite meal while visiting Santa Barbara for a week. Wow, the food is so fresh, the ambiance is beautiful, the service was good. Don't skip on the house pickled veg with perfectly toasted sourdough. The sandwiches were phenomenal. Matcha was beautiful and even the lemonade was uniquely fresh. Very well done, Daisy Restaurant - I will always return when visiting, thank you!

Yelp
This review is beyond overdue and a well-deserved 5-stars. The Daisy has been such a wonderful addition to State Street. Everything you consider Californian Cuisine is found here. Fresh, organic and local ingredients are used in the large majority of their dishes--and you can taste the difference! They have an in-house baker so their baked items (breads and pastries) are perfection. Vegans, vegetarians and all others with dietary restrictions are happy campers here. While prices are understandably on the higher-side, the portions are large and easily shared. As for the food, I am going out on a limb and saying they have three of the best items in town: Banh Mi, Falafels and Smoked Trout Dip. Each and everyone of these is a show stopper! They offer locally produced beer and wine, plus my favorite refreshing Sake Spritz from Montecito. If you're in a pinch for time, they have pre-made grab 'n go cold section too. Until next time, Daisy!

Yelp
Amazing restaurant. I went here with kids and we loved everything about it. The service was great and we will definitely be back!
