"West Village bakery the Doughnut Project is shutting down later this month. Owner Leslie Polizzotto announced the news in January. “This decision was made after considering many factors including the approaching end of our lease,” she said in an email. Polizzotto opened the doughnut shop at 10 Morton Street, near Bleecker Street, in 2015. Its big, chewy doughnuts with flavors like black pepper and everything seasoning drew fans beyond the Village. The shop sold its doughnuts nationwide on Goldbelly, and the recipes will soon be available in a cookbook, Polizzotto says. The last day is February 25." - Luke Fortney

"These big and chewy doughnuts often get a savory turn at the Doughnut Project, where flavors could include olive oil and black pepper or everything spice with cream-cheese frosting. If savory doughnuts especially appeal, opt for the beet version, which comes dipped in a magenta glaze and filled with ricotta so lightly sweetened this doughnut could qualify as lunch." - Eater Staff

"This place is aptly named, considering all of their interesting and experimental flavors. We like The Bronx, which combines a sweet glaze with black pepper and olive oil, as well as the Those Beetz Are Dope, which has a bright red beet-flavored glaze and is filled with whipped ricotta. They also have very good vegan cake doughnuts, including one topped with cereal milk glaze and cornflakes. We met someone who lines up before opening time every Friday morning, so The Doughnut Project clearly inspires a loyal following. We can see why." - Kenny Yang

The Doughnut Project is open from 9am till 2pm. I stopped by on. Thursday afternoon around 1:30pm and this was what they had left. The donuts were delicious. I got the Lemon Love Letter and Milk and Cereal. The Milk & Cereal donut was vegan and you got the flavors of cereal. It was a crispier donut but there was still softness on the inside. The Lemon Love Letter donut definitely delivered on the lemon flavor. The donut was soft and fluffy. If you’re a donut lover and haven’t checked this place out, add it to your list. I was so curious about the cinnamon roll donut so I will be back.

Google
This place and its maple cruller donut rocked my world. This place is amazing. Ordered 6 donuts from here and 2 of the signature maple cruller - my only mistake was not ordering more. Everything was delicious by my favorite has to be the maple cruller (can you tell by this point in the review?) and the yeasted plain glazed (so soft!) They both melt in your mouth and are absolutely delicious I will be thinking of the maple cruller donut in my sleep for the rest of the week. And I certainly will be back

Google
The donut I had was delicious. It was the service that threw me off. The lady (perhaps manager) seemed to be in a rush even though the place wasn’t crowded. Customer service is part of businesses so even though I was asking questions about the donuts, like the types and what is in them, the lady seemed quite impatient for me to just decide on a donut. To reiterate, the product seemed great, the coffee was okay, but the service is what drew my negative impression.

Google
No offense to the other donut places, 've tried them all and this place is the best out of the bunch, do not go anywhere else. I've gone TWICE as they were closing at like 1:50pm and both times I got some amazing fresh spectacular donuts like they just made them. Melt in your MOUTH donuts you have to try all the flavors, even flavors you think you might not like, get it and try it and have your mind blown. I want to go back just thinking about them while writing this review. Highlights: Apple, Bacon Maple, Cinnamon Bun, all great. Update: Super bummed about them closing permanently, I have been back every weekend since I heard just to order like 8 doughnuts because they are that good and I will miss them, losing a special place

Google
We've been coming here for years, and decided we needed them for our wedding dessert. They did not disappoint! We thought we had ordered too many doughnuts, but only ended up taking home a few. Our guests loved them so much, especially The Bronx, cinnamon roll, and The Manhattan Cream. We love stopping by for their weekend special flavors because they crush it every time when they think outside the donut box. Thanks providing awesome donuts, see you soon!

Google
Talk about amazing donuts! I got three different flavored donuts. The vegan maple glazed, vegan pumpkin spice latte and the vegan cereal milk donut. So far I have only eaten the vegan cereal milk one but felt compelled to write my review after just that one donut. The flavor was amazing! A little salty and perfectly sweet. These donuts are large as well so great for breakfast or a mid afternoon snack or dessert. I will 100% be back again to try more flavors and I'll update this after trying some more flavors. They have such a huge variety that there is something for everyone. I love that they have vegan options as well as traditional. These donuts are so worth the stop. Beyond just the donuts the lady at the register was nice and very helpful.

Google
Gosh I had the lemon doughnut and it is the best. Very rich in flavour and after 2 bites I already feel pretty filled up. The store is extremely cute in a nice little street. The woman who helped us also was very lovely. Overall a great place I definitely recommend. Go here instead of other places😗

Google
The BEST doughnut shop in the city hands down. They also serve incredibly good coffee. I’m lucky enough to live right around the corner and make sure to walk by every weekend when walking the doggo to see what the weekend special is. There’s sometimes not one but TWO weekend specials and I’ve yet to have one that wasn’t amazing. I love how they do collabs with other local places. Some standout specials were the sticky bourbon toffee and the milk + cookies for Santa. If you’re looking for something out of the classic lineup, you have to try the Skippy PBJ, the Maple Cruler, or the everything Doughnut (which is world famous). It’s literally the highlight of my week every time I come in 🤤🤤🤤

Yelp
Still my favorite doughnuts ever! It had been a while since I visited Doughnut Project, but I knew to order in advance. We got all the necessities- the maple cruller, everything bagel doughnut, maple bacon bar, and the cinnamon roll. When I got there at 12:30 to pickup my order EVERYTHING except the maple bacon bar was completely sold out. Preordering is important! And easy to do on their website. IMO, they have the best cruller I've ever had, even better than Daily Provisions. It's more dense - but still light, crispy, and chewy with a deep maple flavor. Cruller excellence. Speaking of maple, the maple bacon bar is legendary. The chewy yeasted doughnut bar covered in a their maple glaze and perfectly rendered piece of bacon. Bliss. If you're into doughnuts, Doughnut Project cannot be missed.

Yelp
I usually don't rave about donuts, but this was the best donut I have ever had in my life. The flavor was so complex the doughnut was amazingly fluffy, and it was just made so well. The service super quick and the prices are pretty reasonable for how good the donut is. It is definitely a grab and go, but you have to come here. It is delicious. I didn't see if they had any seating but you could just grab a doughnut and walk around the city.

Connie G.

Yelp
I've been wanting to try the donuts here for while, and I'm so glad I did since apparently the shop is going to permanently close at the end of February! I went around 10am on a weekday, so I was in and out (no line). I got the coffee crunch donut, and it was definitely one of the better yeast donuts I've had in NYC - super soft and fluffy. The donut was, however, on the pricier side (I think it was $5.25), and my only other critique is that the coffee flavor doesn't come through very much in the topping/glaze. Would still recommend people check this place out before it closes!

Mayuka K.

Yelp
Today, I got the weekly special which is Tiramisu doughnut and my favorite, maple bacon bar. Their weekly special doughnut is always good and I love it! They have many kinds so you can try and find your favorite! There is sometimes long line to get into the store, so you can also pre-order and just pick up! This place is amazing and I recommend you to try if you haven't!!

Lisa R.

Yelp
Staff: friendly and helpful Food: um, its a donut shop, so donuts. Whats especially good? Beet donut - more savory than sweet, and love the color... Sour cherry - tart and tasty! Coffee cake - classic and good Pepper Olive oil - fun and different Banoffee - (ya know, banana/toffee= banoffee) Has vegan options (more than just 2-3) Pro-tip: Flavors rotate so go early for more choices

David T.

Yelp
My favorite doughnut place in the city hands down! They always have a super cool special (only on weekends) that always change. Today I got the classic old fashion and cinnamon roll. Both scream perfection! I've had many doughnut places in the city but this one always takes the cake. You MUST come if you're a doughnut lover.

Janelle S.

Yelp
The best donuts I've had in the city! I had the vanilla glaze donut, the cereal crunch cake donut, and the cinnamon roll which many people speak highly of. The vanilla glaze donut was an elevated take on the classic glazed donut, it was super fluffy, not overwhelmingly sweet, and you could really taste the vanilla (not artificial vanilla tasting either!) I'm normally not a fan of cake donuts but I really enjoyed the cereal crunch cake donut. The texture of the cake donut wasn't dense and was the perfect amount of crumbly yet fluffy. The only con I would say is that the cornflake cereal toppings were a bit stale but overall a very enjoyable donut. Many people speak highly of Doughnut Project's cinnamon rolls, and I truly understand the hype! The roll itself was soft and had the perfect gooey cinnamon spread inside. Along with the classic cream cheese frosting, the cinnamon roll had a cinnamon glaze over it which was SO good and also not overwhelmingly sweet! The donuts are a bit on the pricier side ($4.50+ per donut) but I would 100% come back for whenever I want something sweet. They also have unique flavors that I believe rotate weekly, this weeks flavor was a chips and guac donut but I wasn't brave enough to try it haha.

Ayana A.

Yelp
Doughnut legends for this city! Hands down, the doughnuts just always are perfect! Sad that they will be closing at the end of February but I do hope that anyone that can visit checks out this spot. It's a must try for donut lovers and a great introduction to quality treats for newbies. They stay open until the donuts sell out so I got there around 9am when they opened. I got the Apple Crumble and Lemon Love letter (my fave!). You're in and out of there even if there's a line but it's worth the wait.

Yelp
I discovered this location through yelp and I'm so glad I did because it's great. The service was good & friendly. The donuts were so good that I ended up going twice for the cinnamon roll which was flat out great. I had the cinnamon roll ($5.75), glazed donut ($4.75), and new old fashioned cake donut ($4.75). My favorite was of course the cinnamon roll, it was delicious. The new old fashioned cake donut was alright but tasted even better when warmed up. The glazed donut for the most part was okay. All in all, that cinnamon roll donut makes this place an instant hit that I would recommend and go to whenever I'm in New York.

Yelp
Fun donut shop with so many interesting donut flavors. I came here specifically to try the BEC with Everything Donut. This was one of the limited special flavors that was around only for that weekend. I really liked how cute the shop was, and all the art on the walls. I had pre-ordered so I got mine right away. BEC with Everything Donut was really good. The donut is surprisingly quite savory with the seasoning and has only a hint of sweetness. The soft, pillowy texture of the donut was an interesting contrast to a bagel. Bacon egg and cheese was delicious, everything was made warm and melty. With the Frank's red hot glaze, it was a flavorful and satisfying combination. My only suggestion would be to clear out some of the clutter in the shop. There are two standing only counters where you can enjoy your food, however one of them was completely filled with stacked boxes and miscellaneous supplies so it really left only one counter to be used. I get that it's more of a grab and go shop, but I happened to go on a day when it was pouring rain. With the constant stream of customers hovering around with their food, the space definitely would have come in handy.

Kassiel G.

Yelp
Big and soft and chewy, a perfect donut! The lavender was very present in the blueberry, and the edible flowers were a delightful touch A little pricey, but great to taste new flavors and cross it off your list!

Yelp
Food favorites: maple cruller, the everything donut, bacon maple bar - they're all SO decadent and unforgettable!!!! Service: personal, quick Vibes: boutique, creative, unique

Yelp
This place is soooo freaking good I'm a huge donut fan, and have been on the hunt for the best donuts in the city and this is definitely among my top two! We got three donuts: maple crueler, coconut cream cake which was a weekend special (don't think it will be available any longer) and also the old fashioned cake. My fave was definitely the old fashioned cake, because this is more doughy and has the same texture as pound cake, and I LOVEEE cake perfect texture with the right amount of sweetness (I don't like donuts that are overly sweet and this was perfect). The maple crueler is their most popular option, and it wasn't bad, but not as good as the old fashioned cake imo. My least favorite was the coconut cream cake, because the cream and coconut on top was a bit too sweet for my liking. I definitely want to come back and try their Brooklyn gin donut which is apparently made with real gin! Overall, loveeee this place and how unique the flavors are! Ambiance/service: cute donut place. No seats inside, but has a small stand up section to enjoy the donuts. Staff was super friendly and nice.

Peter H.

Yelp
They're versatile. We make trips downtown specifically to try their weekly novelty doughnuts, and they always deliver. This is in a variety of styles and toppings too! S'mores, peanut butter concoctions, galaxy glazes, crullers... I think the maple cruller is a staple and perennial best-seller. Always visually stunning and fun to eat, no matter the style. Remember their fairly tight hours, 9 am-2 pm.

Rachel L.

Yelp
I tried the coffee cake crunch doughnut and it was fine! it had crunchy topping on it and the doughnut itself was light and fluffy. it didn't have that oily aftertaste and was relatively light considering how large it was. overall, it was good but not necessarily extraordinary!

Semaj B.

Yelp
I had been following the instagram account for years when i suddenly got very into donuts give or take within the last 5 years , however it was not until recently that i realized that it was in fact an actual store and not just an account posting about donuts! Upon discovery and hearing that this sunday feb 25th after an iconic run of 8 years they will be closing for good! so naturally I had to go, I have been 3 times, the first time I got the cinnamon roll as I am currently on the hunt for the best cinnamon rolls in nyc and loved it, 2nd trip was for their weekend special which at the time was the triple peanut butter and something with chocolate? Loved the peanut butter then i went for the third time yesterday and got the weekend specials of smores and also the vietnamese coffee and crembrulee donut both were amazing and another cinnamon roll!! Im sad to know that in 48 hours this will no longer be an option for me but I am so glad that I got to experience this !!

Cecile B.

Yelp
This is a really cute, artsy shop with a nice assortment of interesting donuts, and we couldn't help but order a selection: - "LEMON LOVE LETTER" ($4.75): Lemon glaze, Malden sea salt with lemon zest. This one was really good, bright and not too sweet - PEPPERMINT BARK SWIRL ($5.25): Peppermint white chocolate glaze, dark chocolate swirl, peppermint dust. Classic peppermint taste - CEREAL MILK CRUNCH ($4.75): Vegan cake doughnut with cereal oat milk glaze and toasty and crunchy cornflake topping. This was a surprising hit, given that it as vegan - NEW OLD FASHIONED ($4.75): Old fashioned cake doughnut with vanilla glaze. This was alright, but nothing too memorable and we've had better cake donuts - COFFEE CAKE CRUNCH DOUGHNUT ($5.25): Espresso glaze, coffee cake streusel topping. I don't like coffee but my family enjoyed this one The owner was friendly, and also offered free holiday postcards of the shop. In terms of overall selection, pricing, and ambience, this probably ended up being our favorite spot on our NYC donut tour, and would be a go-to spot if we lived nearby.

Corinne K.

Yelp
No one talks about how awesome their coffee is! Not only are the doughnuts so tasty and fresh, their coffee is *chef's kiss*

Jillian B.

Yelp
Been coming here for well over a year at this point and all I gotta say is this place is GREAT! While they have their staples (such as the cereal milk donut, cinnamon bun, and their coffee donut), they have a variety of rotating donuts as well. I've attached as many pictures as I could find in my gallery, including the classics in addition to the specials. On the standard rotation (aka always available), I'd say they have a selection of somewhere around 15 donuts - but for the most part, these aren't your typical strawberry, vanilla, chocolate, etc.. these flavors include maple bacon, PB&J, cereal milk, coffee crunch, cinnamon roll, everything with cream cheese, and quite a few more. Typically they'll have 2-3 seasonal donuts available for a few months, sometimes in partnership with another brand (for example, they had a donut in partnership with brooklyn gin which was delicious). In addition, they'll have 2-3 special flavors available only for one weekend: the kicker is that EACH WEEKEND IS DIFFERENT!!! I give them major props for their creativity and these specials kill it almost every time. TLDR; This place is a must if you're in the area and a fan of sweets. A bit on the pricey side but well worth it in my book.

Eunice K.

Yelp
Omg these donuts are so good. I usually get way too many things and usually not a fan of it but these... OMG should've gotten more to try... I can't wait to go back and get more to try for my sisters Blackberry bramble- subtle and light but also so flavorful! Love how fluffy and soft the doughnuts are Those beets are dope- OMG so good! My fav from the two I tried. The ricotta filling and the subtle beet flavor! Soooo good! Old fashion doughnut- waiting to try with a friend either later today and prob tomorrow so will update on how the doughnuts are when you eat it a little later Got an americano cus I was worried the doughnuts might be too sweet but it isn't. Black coffee and donuts are always so good together but I think a latte would've been good too! I think this might be my fav doughnut place in the city Service is great You can order the day before for pick up or order for delivery

Ruwan J.

Yelp
4.5 stars "do nut" touch my doughnut, but "dough nut " resist getting your own. the tasty hype is real and realized in this doughnut shop in the West Village. open in the morning til mid-afternoon daily--serving up unique and classic doughnut flavors. recommend the Coffee Crunch as well as the Everything Doughnut--both were off-the-beaten-path but also leading you back to the comfort of home-sweet-home which confection's rely for a familiar simple sugar-driven pleasure. the coffee cake crunch did lack "crunch" (and coffee-ness) but was still really good. the everything doughnut is a delight and different. weekends premiere one-off specialty flavors that aren't offered during the week. the interior is small, so grab and go (with a coffee as they serve that, too). expect popular flavors to run out by closing time like the maple bacon. definitely a must for tourists and residents alike...at least once. service is as pleasant as the doughnuts.

Karen J.

Yelp
All I can say is wow. By far the best donuts I've ever had in my life. This place is open for a short amount of hours for the day and they sell out fast. So if you're not there early or put in a pre order you may not get one of those novelty-speciality donuts lol. I tried so many flavors I don't even remember which ones I had but everything taste good. And the staff will give you good recommendations (they are pretty friendly)

Elianny S.

Yelp
Let's start with the good. This place is very cute! I loved the colorful nostalgic decorations and cool artwork. While the doughnuts were very nicely displayed, there was no discernable delicious smell of freshly baked sugar throughout the place. This should have been the clue! We decided to go with the new old fashioned and the black gold doughnuts. These 2 doughnuts were around $9! Once we actually tried the doughnuts, my reaction was pretty much disappointment. The black gold did not really have a noticeable chocolate taste. The new old fashioned had more of a sugary taste but was also dense and dry. These doughnuts were a waste of money and calories. Based on the ones we tried, I don't see the what's the big deal about this place. If you're just trying this for the aesthetics, then you will be fine, but if you're looking for a delicious doughnut, this is not it.

Olivia P.

Yelp
I came here on a weekend morning and was really excited about all the choices. The store is small but I like how they display all the donuts so I can choose with my eyes. I think I made the wrong choice unfortunately but it did intrigue me enough to want to try more. Vietnamese Coffee Filled Crème Brûlée Donut: 7/10 To be honest I was pretty disappointed in this donut. First of all it was extremely expensive ($5+) for this small little thing. The crème brûlée top would have been cool if the surface area was bigger. It's so small you can't enjoy the crunch you get from it. I wish the donut overall was bigger and think that would have made it better. The crème brûlée top could also have been thicker. I wanted a nice crack and crunch but that didn't really happen. It's a great idea but wasn't well executed. I also didn't love the coffee cream filling. I love coffee and cream filled donuts, but the coffee taste didn't come through. The whole time I was eating the donut I was trying to find either the crème brûlée flavor and feel or the coffee flavor and couldn't get either of them. I was trying to focus and find them but then after three bites the donut was gone. I would come back but definitely would not get this donut and not recommend it. The other flavors intrigue me though. I feel bad about the low rating but this was based on my experience, which wasn't great. Hoping to come back and change my opinion!

Abbey R.

Yelp
First time here and I recommend if you don't want to wait you can do delivery as the wait was about 25 minutes. I really wanted to see the donuts and select them when I got in there so I didn't mind waiting. My first impression of the shop is that is very cute. I love that is Owned by a women. The donuts definitely lived up to the hype these donuts are not your typical regular donuts I traveled here about an hour and it was so worth it. Each donut was unique and tasty. I wanted to get them all. I love that the quality match it's price. I've tried other pastry shops and they're overpriced for the quality. However these donuts are worth every penny. I've tried a couple of them see pictures below for details. My favorite ones were maple cruller , ever after and the everything donut even the bacon maple was really good and flavorful I would definitely be back and you just have to visit when in the city.

Yelp
For my birthday, I went on an epic quest to find the best doughnut in NYC and after visiting six shops, I am pleased to report that it is right here at The Doughnut Project. We arrived at mid day on a Friday and the place was poppin. The interior is cute and the employees were doing a brisk business but lord, was it hot as hell in there. Yes, it is August but damn, someone get them a fan or something please. We got 6 donuts: everything, new old fashioned, cereal milk crunch (vegan), cinnamon roll, those beetz are dope, and plain glazed. Everything: topped with lots and lots and lots of seeds this tasted exactly like an everything bagel but with the softness of a donut. Well played, guys. New Old Fashioned: probably my least favorite in the box. The donut itself was good but the glazed had a little something to it that I cannot quite put my finger on, but I did not care for it. Cereal milk crunch: wasn't expecting to like it but it was actually great. Toasty and crunchy and sweet. Ate the whole thing and honestly, no one would know it was vegan if you didn't tell them. Cinnamon roll: big and lucious. Had a hard time fitting it in my mouth and you could absolutely pop it in the microwave for a few seconds and sit down with a knife and fork. Probably should have shared but I ate the whole thing. Those beetz are dope: this is it. The best donut in NYC. Amazing. Get two of them, ok? My only complaint it that it was itty bitty but that fact made me appreciate it even more. Plain glazed: didn't get to it because we were too stuffed from the other donuts but it looks pretty. All in all, a good although pricey experience. But worth a trip for legit the best donut in all of NYC.

Stacey L.

Yelp
Worth a flight to the city ! I love this place. Soooo good. Added bonus is the pizza place nearby.

Audrey W.

Yelp
Without a doubt the best donuts I have ever had. Ordered four: the everything donut, the cinnamon roll, the maple cruller, and the chili lime mango. I'm not sure I could pick a favorite out of these -- I'm a big cruller fan. I'm a big bagel fan. I am not committed to eating my way through everything on the menu here. Beautiful topping; beautiful donuts -- both the cake and yeast ones. (For what it's worth I pre-ordered, which saved the "waiting in line" headache.)

Cindy G.

Yelp
The lemon love letter was excellent. Light and fluffy yeast donut with a sweet and slightly tart glaze. The cinnamon roll had a delightful chewy texture but the glaze and the sugar was too much. The buttercream frosting was unnecessary. The maple bar was too sweet. The doughnut itself was tasty and light. Suggest reducing sugar content by 1/3-1/2.

James B.

Yelp
Insane!! Possibly the best donut I've ever eaten in my life. If only you guys could open up a spot in DTLA. Space is small but cozy with standing counters to enjoy your coffee and treats. The staff were very friendly and helpful in choosing the perfect donut (I was convinced to do the maple crueler - best choice and great recommendation). When back in NYC I will surely be returning

Kelsey A.

Yelp
My favorite donuts in the whole world. The maple cruller is the best pastry I've ever had in my life. The maple bacon bar is also excellent, as is the olive oil and cracked pepper. They have specials every weekend, which always keeps me coming back. You can't go wrong here!

Ivana Y.

Yelp
We came across this doughnut shop on our way to another restaurant and I'm so glad we walked in, the place is small but very cutely decorated. Then they have their donuts displayed with the cutest names and are so DELICIOUS!! I didn't get to take pictures of all of them, because I devoured them too quickly, but it's definitely a spot we'll be stopping in again! Their CINNAMON ROLL, holy moly, I'm buying two next time, AMAZING!!

Jacqueline T.

Yelp
This has been on my NYC list to try for a while now and we finally tried it on our most recent trip. Boy have we been missing out! We got: - Everything Doughnut - Those Beets Are Dope - Maple Cruller They were all fantastic and I would highly recommend each of them. If I had to pick one, I'd pick the maple cruller. I had never had a cruller before and it tasted like a cross between a churro and a donut. I loved the texture. I'd definitely come back to try more donuts and recommend trying this place when in NYC!

Lilah M.

Yelp
We were on a mission to find the best doughnuts in NYC, and after a lot of deliberation, agreed on this spot. I loved the decor of the store and the fact it's women-led. The doughnuts were pretty disappointing though. I am not sure if we just ordered wrong, but they ranged from okay to inedible and we wound up trashing most of our order. The best of the lot was the vegan cereal milk, with the worst of the lot being a soggy chocolate cruller and the blueberry muffin thing which was far too tart and dry. The counter person was such a buzzkill too. She was visibly annoyed with my husband because she incorrectly thought he was talking to her when discussing the doughnut flavors- she said something like "oh so I guess you're NOT talking to me" and made a big show of deleting the order she rang in after my husband apologized. The person baking the doughnuts and packing them up were lovely and friendly.

Tina B.

Yelp
NYC has quite a few doughnut shops, but this one is my absolute favorite. Their products are consistently fresh & they offer weekly specials that are always tasty. This time around we enjoyed the strawberry milkshake & the chocolate eclair cruller...both were really good & hopefully they'll make their way back to the rotation. The maple crullers and cinnamon buns are also great options.

Zei K.

Yelp
Yum yum yum!!! let me start by saying I'm usually not a donut person, I know, I know... but other than potato donuts like the famous Holy donut in Portland ME, I usually just don't care for them as I find the cake part too dense and the glaze too sweet. But wow I truly adored my coco Loco donut from this place!! It's a coconut crumble donut with chocolate drizzle and think almonds. Oh my! The cake part was super moist and just everything was magic. It was actually vegan which I usually don't like because it's either too sweet or dense but this was so freaking delicious! The interior is so cute and cool, it's worth it just to come in just to be filled with a burst of color and decadent smells! Friendly Staff makes it all the more welcoming! Anyways try it out!

Yelp
Hands down one of my favorite doughnut shops! They feature unique flavor specials every weekend from Friday-Sunday. It is tradition I get doughnuts on my birthday instead of cake. My favorite doughnuts are the Bourbon eggnog, birthday cake, cornflake ... the list could go on. Last year on mother days they had a bread pudding special with creme anheláis and lordt have mercy I was licking the container clean

Yelp
I am going to preface the review by saying these are my favorite donuts in NYC. I highly recommend pre ordering online as they always sell out and you can choose from the entire selection. The maple bacon bar is my favorite from the staples, but they are always coming out with amazing specials. Their creativity seems to be endless, and I am here for it. As one would hope, they serve great coffee to go along with the donuts if you are trying one immediately (do it). Staff is always nice and friendly, which definitely makes the experience even more enjoyable!

Yelp
Went on an Underground Donut Tour while in NYC in December 2022. This was the last stop and oh boy did they save the best for last. Amazing flavors, hip vibe. The Everything Doughnut was out of this world good. I was worried at first but wow the sweet and salty was mouthwatering. Highly recommend visiting. Love the startup story too! If they would be as fresh as that Saturday morning I visited, I would order them to be shipped to me.

Yelp
Ridiculously good vegan doughnuts. I honestly wouldn't have been able to tell it wasn't vegan unless someone labeled them as such. From Doughnut Project, I've tried the regular churro donut, the apple cider donut, the old fashioned, the vegan cornflake donut. Everything is delicious! The churro donut was probably my favorite- I love the crispy crunch on the outside and the soft, almost custardy texture on the inside. It reminded me of the inside of a canele for some reason. The apple cider donut was interesting. It had chunks of apples but the dough part was almost bready. It was powdered with cinnamon sugar but was on a tad too sweet for me. This was probably not my favorite rendition of an apple cider donut but was an interesting interpretation. The old fashioned was delicious! Crunchy, glazed exterior with a soft interior. Probably one of the simplest but effective old fashioned donuts I've had! I also really loved the vegan donut with cornflakes. It was light and fluffy and tasted just like a regular donut with a light glaze over it. I may have actually liked it better than the regular donut, which I would have never expected. Doughnut project was great! Honestly all their doughnuts were super solid.

Yelp
I've been walking by this place for more than a decade in the West Village, and for some reason I just never bothered to try it out. I do enjoy donuts, and I go to Dough and Doughnut Plant pretty often. But Doughnut Project just never made it into my donut rotation- until now, that is. Wow, this place is amazing! I honestly wanted to get so many of their donuts, but I didn't want to go full glutton mode on my first visit. I finally settled on two- the plain glazed (which had real Tahitian vanilla bean flecks in the glaze), and the peanut butter & jelly. Both of these were ridiculously good. I mean, I'm still dreaming of them. The glazed was one of, if not the, best glazed donut I've ever had. It was so fluffy, airy, and light, with a delicious glaze chock full of flavor and a nice hint of vanilla- not your run-of-the-mill over-sugary syrup that some places use as glaze. The PB & J was so unique, if you like that flavor combination, you'll love this donut. The berry compote they used was so bright and tasty, and the rich peanut butter complemented it so well. The berry glaze on the top of the donut tied everything together so well. I'm actually planning to visit tomorrow, writing this review is reigniting my craving. If you like donuts, you absolutely need to try The Doughnut Project out. Odds are, it will become your new favorite donut place.

Yelp
Doughnuts are a sinfully delightful way to start the day. I was pleased to start my weekend in New York City with the The Everything Doughnut, "Those Beetz are Dope" Doughnut, and the Maple Cruller. Initially, the plan was to only get two doughnuts. We narrowed it down to three. We asked one of the bakers for help and she convinced is to get all three. The Everything Doughnut is world famous. People literally travel from around the world to try it. "Those Beetz are Dope" Doughnut won a donut contest. The Maple Cruller was the current best seller.

Yelp
Made it to this doughnut shop today, after missing the chance to try these delicacies in my previous nyc visit. I must say it was very much worth the wait!!! My husband and I purchased a large oat milk latte and a selection of doughnuts so we could have a taste of their different flavours and textures. We had two weekend specials: the cranberry & brie collab with the cheese shop and the pumpkin pie doughnut, and two regular creations: a maple Cruller and a cinnamon roll. Our favourite by far was the maple Cruller... It was the best doughnut we ever had, resembles a perfect churro but fluffier and with more bite and then you get the beautiful notes of maple ... The pumpkin doughnut was of course really tasty, fluffy, delicious. The brie collab one also did not dissappoint although it was a bit sweet i did enjoy the brie contrast. The cinnamon roll also beautiful, fluffy sweet, tasty with a divine cream cheese icing . We paid for the 4 doughnuts and coffee about 27 usd. Staff were friendly and the shop is very popular, we were lucky they had not sold out!. If you are in the city definitely do give these beauties a try!.

Yelp
I'm obsessed with donuts so I had to try this place. I recommend pre ordering in advance it's really easy and you don't have to wait online when you arrive. Donuts run around $4-6 give or take. There are lots of options and specials every weekend. There are also vegan options. Personally I didn't like the vegan donuts I bought I thought they were just ok. It's nice they have the option though for those that are vegan and I understand it's not everyone's cup of tea so that's why I'm still 5/5 on this place. Some of the 2 dozen donuts I bought which I really enjoyed were peanut butter & jelly, lemon poppy seed, special- funnel cake donut.

Yelp
I'm on a mission to find the best crullers in NYC, and the cruller here does not disappoint. It's crispy, light, and nicely glazed. I will say it can feel a bit oily and a bit too sweet, but overall...I love this cruller. Wish they had it in other flavors, but you can't really go wrong with maple IMO.

Yelp
One of my favorite places to stop while I'm in the city! The donuts are seriously delicious and they have such creative flavors (and some "normal" flavors if you're not feeling super adventurous). The staff is super friendly and I enjoyed chatting with the owner too-she's really nice. The shop is located on a cute little street. Donuts run about $4-$5 and there are lots of beverage options too (I really enjoyed the iced chai latte). Definitely one of the best donut shops I've been to!

Yelp
tl;dr this bakery host an ambitious lineup of well-balanced and perfectly executed artisanal doughnuts, definitely worth a visit out of your way The Doughnut Project is a women-owned, small-batch bakery known for its innovative array of hand-crafted yeast doughnuts. At the West Village brick-and-mortar, the menu of medium-sized doughnuts includes elevated takes on classic rings, vegan cakes, and other crowd favorites. The diminutive space makes up in character what it lacks in size. The slate grey wall is decorated with colorful graffiti, and an amaranth "Doughnuts" neon sign and framed punk artwork decorate the walls. A scarlet espresso machine and a dizzying doughnut display take up most of the marble counter space. I arrived close to opening on a Sunday morning, and there was a short queue. Service was friendly and efficient, even in the face of a building weekend crowd. I arrived I opted for 2 varieties: a Maple Bacon Bar and the signature Everything Doughnut. The Doughnut Project knocked their upscale rendition of a classic maple bar out of the park. The bread was light and airy, with a perfect amount of chewiness. The maple glaze was caramel-y and thick, but not overwhelmingly sweet. It was perfectly complemented by a full slice of crisp, thick-cut bacon, culminating into a showstopper of a doughnut. Not to be outdone, the Everything Doughnut was even more delicious than it was gimmicky. The chewy, pillowy texture stood out immediately as a pleasant surprise. This doughnut achieved a solid balance between sweet cream cheese glaze and generously loaded savory everything seasoning (including the salt and garlic!). Hot take -- I might prefer this doughnut to an everything bagel. Although neither variety was warm, my fingers were left slightly greasy after indulging in these treats, signaling to me that my selections were freshly fried. The Doughnut Project's sophisticated yet ambitious doughnuts rank among the best that I've ever enjoyed. These feel like a steal even at ~$5 each. Whether you're a doughnut enthusiast or a weekend warrior, I would recommend a trip out of your way for these exciting and well-executed treats. I can't wait to some of the other varieties on my return visit.

Yelp
First I just have to say - DO NOT confuse Doughnut Project with Doughnut Plant! I don't mean the doughnuts, I just mean the locations aren't walkable and I ended up taking 4 subways to get to my original order pickup at the D Project! As soon as I finally walked in the right doughnut establishment, all was great! My order was ready for me and I was thirsty after spending my morning on subways so I ordered a cold brew. Took a drink and walked out the door refreshed! Then, I sat on an iron tree hugger to look at my MTA map to make absolutely sure I knew where my subway to get back to the apartment was located. Stood up and started walking only to realize 2 blocks away that I'd left my cold brew on the sidewalk where I'd sat down. "Darn!, I said, Today is NOT my day!" I mean, if I went back - should I drink a coffee that's been on the sidewalk with people all around? Nah. I decided to take the hit - BUT, the cold brew was excellent!! When I got back, my day changed - we got to eat doughnuts!! Each one was as good as the other! I guess the most unusual was the specialty doughnut - the Beet frosting and Ricotta filling. Amazing! I can clearly and unequivocally say that I have found my new favorite doughnut plant! I mean, Project!!! (No offense to the other place - I never actually tasted them!) Clearly NYC has yummy doughnuts all over the island!!
