Best Restaurants in Columbia, South Carolina | Eater Carolinas

"Kristian Neimi has created hit after hit in the Columbia restaurant scene, and the Dragon Room is his latest venture. The vibe strikes an intriguing balance between moody and energetic, with a glowing neon sign hanging behind the bar where famed mixologist David Adedokun shakes up inventive cocktails and mocktails. There’s truly nothing bad on the menu, but if you order the okonomiyaki, please add the pork floss." - Helen Harrison

I definitely love the food. I think I would rather prefer if this were a lunch spot though compared to dinner. I was seated immediately and the food came out super fast. I got the lobster ragoon dip and pork belly skewers that were super tender. I will say I dont know if the price equals the amount served as I thought it would come with a side of rice but overall great experience. I tried the soy sauce ice cream as well which was better than expected!

The place has a nice atmosphere and the cocktails were great. The ramen wasn’t very good, but I don’t think that’s their specialty. I recommend trying a different dish, the appetizer and dessert were good

The Dragon Room offers a wonderfully cozy and intimate dining experience, perfect for a secluded date night. Their award-winning drinks are not only delicious but also expertly curated to pair beautifully with their exotic infused dishes. My bestie Bae raved about the pork belly, describing it as so mouthwatering it just melted in his mouth – truly chef's kiss! The street corn Okonomiyaki was another wonderfully infused dish that stood out. While I wasn't a fan of the BBQ eggrolls (they were a bit bland with a yellow BBQ sauce for dipping that lacked an appealing taste), the crispy, light texture of the okra was absolutely "mmhmm" and made for a great appetizer. The Bulgogi Bowl offered a unique take on the traditional Korean dish. While it didn't have the classic Korean flavor profile I was expecting, I'm not quite sure how to describe the specific infusion—it was certainly different. Overall, the experience was fantastic, making The Dragon Room an ideal spot for a perfect date night. The biggest bonus? They're open late!

First time coming here and it was great. The food was fresh made to order and came quickly. They have an intimate interior with mood lighting and nice Asian inspired menu. An extensive cocktail menu and Asian infused flavors throughout.

When I first ate at the Dragon Room a few month ago, I was excited to try a new restaurant in the Vista. The restaurant was crowded, it took us awhile to get a seat, and I thought the food was just average. One thing I did not understand was why the host was taking so much time going all the way to the back to grab all the plates, utensils, and napkins to set up the tables. This often left the front with no host for long periods of time, which also caused many customers to walk out the door. My husband and I took our daughter out to eat on a different night and wanted to see if the service and food was better this time. I always try a restaurant a couple times before I determine how the food and service actually is. I understand restaurants have good and bad days, just like everyone. Again, we waited awhile at the front to be seated. The host was again was walking back and forth grabbing napkins, utensils and cups to set up tables. Then when the host finally came to the front, she said it would be a 30-45 mins before a seat was available. When I asked if we could sit outside where there were 6-7 tables open, she said, “oh yeah, those are open”. Why didn’t she mention that? It made me wonder how many customers walked away because they were not fully informed. Next, our waitress only check on us twice. Third, my food was just okay. Of all things on my dish, the shrimp was the worse! I thought it was just me, but I had my husband, my daughter and another person next to us, try the shrimp. It look good, but taste like it had been soaked is dish soap. I hate wasting food, especially shrimp of all things! I was super disappointed and will not be returning. Please! If you are reading this, try the PuPu Platter for 4. Please let me know if we got a batch of bad shrimp or if it really does have a strange flavor.

We tried the pho, fried chicken & caviar bao, and the miso Mac and cheese. The food is excellent however you may need a couple of dishes to fill a hungry stomach. The pho was definitely a good portion by itself. The espresso martini chai was great, but for those who do not like chai they can also substitute that out. Service was great and everyone is super friendly. Great atmosphere!

Google
Great late night eatery I really enjoyed my visit. I got the lobster dip and my friend got sweet buns with chicken(not the correct name by the way!) Both of our bills was around $25 so it’s very affordable. We were also able to try the viral not so chicken ice cream!!! The Dragon room is great for photos I loved the entrance. Hope you enjoy my photos.

The Dragon Room in Columbia, SC is a hidden gem! The drinks are top-notch — creative, well-balanced, and served with care. The atmosphere in the evening is super chill, perfect for winding down or catching up with friends. Whether you’re sitting at the bar or relaxing in one of the lounge areas, it’s got a cool, laid-back vibe that makes you want to stay a while. Definitely one of my favorite spots in town.

Yelp
We went to The Dragon Room last night for the fried chicken! It was delicious! They should bottle and sell that sauce! Monica & Autumn took complete care of us! Also loved the spam bao, meatballs, dumplings, lobster rangoon & miso mac and cheese! The cocktails were beautiful and tasty! Save room for dessert and get the bread pudding! It's always the perfect way to end the meal!

Yelp
This was my second time visiting The Dragon Room and sadly I was very disappointed because I brought a friend with me after bragging about my experience the first time. There are a few things that went wrong: 1). The music was SO LOUD that we could barely talk to each other. To the point that others around us were yelling to talk. Great music but didn't go with the vibe of the establishment. 2). The lady that took our order was very nice and helpful but unfortunately it took a very long time for this singular order of BAO BUNS to come out. I would say a good 30-40min on a Wednesday night around 7pm. 3). We ordered the Vegan Breakfast BAO BUNS and it wasn't at all as we expected. The tofu is tasteless, everything was spongy, and for a breakfast flare the mayo was heavy. I took one bite and left right where it was. BUT.... Every single staff member was welcome and willing to assist which is why I give it a 2 out of 5. So if you're looking for a cute, low lit, chill environment with decent music and cute drinks, I would recommend this place. Let me know if this was helpful!

Yelp
I was looking for a great Asian food experience. This place really caught my interest. I was slightly disappointed with the food and service. The food was lacking authenticity, flavor, and freshness. We couldn't figure out what to order so we ordered a plate that had a little of everything, but the flavors weren't there. The dumplings were dipped in a sauce that was so sour we couldn't even eat them (we didn't know they were already dipped, if asked by server we would've asked for the sauce on the side.) The mushrooms didn't taste like freshly sautéed mushrooms at all. The rolls were so greasy. It just tasted like frozen food you would get at a grocery store to warm up. I would recommend for the servers to focus more on giving the customer the best experience they can offer, rather than only taking the order, making sure we don't need napkins, etc. A server should know what is the best selling, most flavorful drink/entree. I feel that we could've had a better experience if drinks/food were recommended to us. Anyway, I was a little sad that our child-less date night was not as good as I had hoped. But the ambience felt great and it's in a good location, I hope they can focus more on certain things.

Yelp
Drinks were fantastic. The blood orange margarita was phenomenal. Love the vibe and lighting, but can get noisy if it's full. Service was quick and friendly. Lobster rangoon dip appetizer was fantastic. For a main I got the ramen with the tofu that was recommended but I would not recommend this to someone else. It was probably a 2/5 for the ramen - flavor was bland, noodles were grainy and the tofu was wiggly / wet and not a good texture. Would recommend trying something else off the menu next time. Will be back but for the drinks and vibe mainly!

Yelp
A friend chose this place for a girls dinner and it was definitely a great choice. They do not accept reservations, but luckily we were able to be seated quickly. Their menu is almost overwhelming with all the choices. Our server was really great with helping us choose. We ordered several appetizer type dishes. We were expecting to order an entree to split but the portions were very generous and we were stuffed! We got the lobster Rangoon dip - which was very good, but for me I would have preferred the consistency to be a little thicker. We got beef bulgogi sliders, a cabbage pancake, egg rolls, and soup dumplings as well. The sliders and the cabbage pancake were definitely my favorite, but everything was really tasty. I definitely want to go back to try a few other things on their menu. It was a really great experience and I also felt like the prices were very reasonable - especially considering the portions!

Yelp
I finally got to try the Dragon Room located in the Vista! They are a fusion Asian restaurant. Parking is free on Saturdays on the street if available. They open at 5pm and people where waiting when we arrived. They have a restaurant and cocktail bar. The ambience is inviting, we really loved this new addition to Columbia! The décor is really sexy and fun. All the food and drinks where packed with flavor. Our food was shared between two and it was plenty. Happy hour is between 5-6pm. I will have to go back and try other dishes for sure. Great place for some late night eats. Yes, the food is bit overpriced, but all restaurants have raised their prices. Tip: Treat yourself and enjoy!

Yelp
Me and my girlfriend have been wanting to go to "Table for Twos-day" and we finally got around to doing so when we seen the menu for the night. Tokyo burger was INCREDIBLE, and the BLT Okonomiyaki pancake was just as good. Not sure if they're on the regular menu but they should both be staples. Service was also very good. Great experience

Yelp
If you're looking for tapas in Columbia, this is the spot. If you like Asian Fusion, this is DEFINITELY the spot. If you're like me and those two things are your favorite food this place is a MUST. The flavors of everything was amazing, service was so so friendly and understanding. Our server answered all of our questions about the menu. The ambiance was PERFECT for a casual date night. And our food was out in less than 15 minutes. So perfect!

Yelp
Do not sleep on this place. We went one night on a stopover in Columbia and have been dreaming of going back since. We sat at the bar, had amazing service where our bartender helped us pick drinks based off how we were feeling that day -- and we both were so happy with what we ended up with! Neither of us would have selected the drink we drank if we had just picked. The food was amazing also. Went with a number of small plates to try and share -- this was definitely the way to go. I love a place where a chef team is willing to experiment and try new things -- but also won't put something on the menu until it's perfect. That's exactly what this place is and does. Try everything, listen to your waiters and bartenders, and you won't go home unsatisfied.

Yelp
Ambience is fun, festive, slightly exotic and dimly lit. Not overly loud, although it was busy, even on a Tuesday. Had a great cocktail. Menu offered creative taste combos and attractive food presentaton. Tuna in the "temaki" was not of good quality - full of sinew - I could've used a steak knife. Service was very attentive, but not apologetic about the tuna complaint. We ordered a lot of dishes ... So not cheaping out, but I would've comped the one dish, or offered to bring something else instead.

Yelp
The Dragon Room never disappoints and it's truly my favorite late night spot in Columbia. My boyfriend and I grabbed some food after a late Saturday night movie and not only was it delicious even at 10:00 pm, the place was so crowded! The service was so quick and we couldn't get over how cool the vibe was of the restaurant at that late hour. Really such a cool spot for drinks and definitely late night bites. The Korean Gnocchi special was so good and you can't go wrong with anything on their menu

Yelp
The Dragon Room is located perfectly in the Vista. It is Part restaurant, part cocktail bar while highlighting the spirit of the Japanese culture. The ambiance is creative, inviting, and FUN. Newest and hottest place in Columbia, SC The food and drink menus are packed with unique dishes and cocktails that will make your taste bud explode. We are ready to visit again Some of our favorite dishes were the: * Ponzu marinated SC snapper * Lobster Rangoon dip * Sichuan Hot Chicken * Carmelized pork belly steak bun * Sichuan Shrimp Steam Bun * Nasi Lemak Fried Rice * Milk Tea Bread Pudding * Temaki Crunchwrap The cocktails were just as delicious * Dancing papaya * White Rabbit * Moondragon * Yuzu Daiquiri

Yelp
Had a fun girls night here, I got the korean meatballs, and they were fantastic! My friend got the bao buns and she loved them, we also got the lobster rangoon dip and it was delicious! Our server was so amazing, she helped a lot with the menu and recommendations!

Yelp
I highly recommend the lobster ragoon, the sliders, and the egg roll, i got a rice bowl that started with an N (forgot the name lol) but all of those were amazing. As far as drinks just make sure you read and understand what you're ordering . I got the dragon mother and lawd know that was the strongest drink I've ever had. It was straight from the dragons leer lmao. The setting is decent every thing is kind of crammed but just enough space at the same time. Very intimate.

Yelp
Went with two of my friends. They ordered the pupu platter which was okay. It has cold mushrooms on it and dumplings that I tried. The mushrooms were flavorless and a weird texture especially being served cold since everything else on the plate was hot. Pretty random in my opinion and didn't have any Asian flavoring. I also tried the chicken dumplings. The looked and tasted like the Bibigo wontons you would get in bulk at Costco just a little dressed up with chili oil and green onion. The platter comes with boa buns and my friend asked for no mayonnaise on them. Well they put mayonnaise on them so we told the waitress. And it took about 25 mins to get the replacement, we were ready to leave. I ordered the banh mi buns. They were just okay for the price. Lacked flavor and all I could taste was the pickled jalapeño. And a bit pricey for two with a thinly sliced piece of pork. I also ordered the Dan Dan noodles which were horrible. All you could taste was the peanut butter and lacked any other flavor. I got the bulgogi beef on top which tasted good if it wasn't lathered in the peanut sauce. Dan Dan noodles are typically made with Lomein noodles. This version was udon which would have been fine if the sauce was actually good. My friend also tried my Dan Dan noodles and felt the same way about the flavoring. The waitress even recommended it. I barely touched the noodles and the waitress kept asking if I wanted a box and I kept saying no. I receptive waiter/waitress would ask if something was wrong. She did not.

Yelp
Stopped here for a pre-dinner cocktail and it was fabulous. The ambiance was chill, the server was friendly, and my cocktail was delicious. The food smelled so good I was tempted to skip out on our reservation elsewhere and stay for dinner. I hope I'll get back some time to eat here.

Yelp
Delicious tapas style food Fried chicken and curry dumplings delicious. Drink menu variety were like spirits. Pythons eye was my delicious drink.

Yelp
The best service in Columbia. Quality ingredients. Clean and organized. My family and had a party of 14 a year ago. I called to inform them my parents were arriving and the manager remembered me. Monica is a professional and accommodating. I want her on my team in NY.

Yelp
Went here with the sweetie a few weeks back after working a local event. It was a pretty packed but we were seated quickly, however, the service took forever to even give us water. Meanwhile, we poured over the menu and found some tantalizing items. I ordered the bao buns with tofu and the low mein special, the latter made with vegetables from local growers only. I didn't like the mung beans in this, found them to be a bit out of place, but everything else was totally on point especially the sesame oil. The bun was okay. I didn't like the distribution of sauce in it, and it only tasted better after I did it in the sauce for my wife's shumai (so). Also, once our server came (and was apologetic) they was very much on point, so kudos. He made me actually want to return, as did the decor. The food is a bit overpriced, as are the drinks, but I'm willing to give it another try. Hopefully I can rate them better on the second try.

Yelp
Hands down one of my favorite places to get late night eats! The soundtrack went from De La Soul to Bad Bunny with a reasonable amount of transition, which I loved. Everyone around was enjoying the vibe. The food was phenomenal, per usual. I had the eff around and fried rice today along with the curry boiled peanuts. I've had the tots ( they were a miss for me), the fried rice and vegetable lomein (sub glass noodles). They were all delicious but this was, by far, my favorite. The bar staff was super engaging and knowledgeable about the drinks and their many variations. This is one of those must haves that Columbia has.

Ananya M.

Yelp
The vibes here are interesting and chill and the service was nice. The bao buns and mapo tofu hummus were amazing and same with the drinks, some of the other foods were a little bland and I would give it a higher rating but my boyfriend and brother both got sick after eating the food here, I think it might have been because of the fish. If it wasn't for that I would probably give this place 4 stars.
google avatar

Jamar M.

Yelp
I hate drinks with tons of ice a couple sips and you're done. So that's just getting over on ppl. The food was very bland and just wasn't tasty at all. Service was good and the atmosphere is a bit confusing.

Yelp
For being no.1 on the waitlist when we arrived we waited almost an hour, because the hostess didn't check us in. Eventually, we were sat. We tried so many things off the menu because we figured it would be small plates. The miso tasted burnt and the shallow bowl was hard to eat out of. The grilled shrimp did not look grilled at all and was super plain. The lobster Rangoon dip was curry flavored and mega salty. I got the yuzu daiquiri and it was so strong drinking half of it had me wobbling out the door. The Milk tea bread pudding was probably the best small plate we had. The Bao Claw tasted reminiscent of barbecue somehow??? I thought I was delusional but my husband agreed. It was giving barbecue sauce! Overall, that's a lot of dishes for none of them to really be good. I'm assuming the busy night caused some mess up in the kitchen flavorwise as far as burnt or salty things? Either way, the reviews I read definitely overhyped this place, it's for hanging out not having a good dinner.

Yelp
What a fun dinner last week and we didn't have to worry about stupid reservations. Once you arrive up the steps you are transported into a mindset. Forget about your troubles and pony up to the bar. Drinks are well thought out not overly sweet ours had citrus and vanilla with crystallized ginger atop the drink. Beers were from the Philippines and a few other Asian countries. BBQ mushrooms and bao buns were delicious especially the fried chicken bun. Need to go again to conquer the other half of the menu soon.

Yelp
I had been wanting to try this new restaurant that sits in the old restaurant DiVino location on Gervais Street. I waited to try it for several months because I was hoping all the kinks would be worked out by the time we tried it and decided to go for our big birthday celebration that my friend and I do every year. The renovations are really cool but the place is very dark and the music is really loud. We were at a small table for 4 but could barely carry on a conversation with our friends. We ordered about 12 plates...almost everything on the menu and a few specials for the night. Sadly.. one was worse than the other, and although we told our waitress we did not mind the order in which the plates were presented, we DID NOT expect to receive all the plates practically at once! The table was quickly overwhelmed, and we felt extremely rushed. While I understand turning over tables, this was ridiculous! Korean meatballs were tastsless.. even the sauce did not help. The best dish we had was the lobster rangoon dip, which was tasty but served like a dip and not the traditional dough, pursed, rangoon you would normally think of. Tuna tataki.. no taste, BBQ mushrooms... pretty good, as were the scallops, which were a special that night. Pork belly steam buns and shrimp steam bun were ok but only 2 pieces for $10.00. The cabbage pancake was mediocre and really had no taste other than cabbage and the eggs rolls were horrendous and tasted like they were made for only carrots or sweet potatoes..icky! They were huge..but size doesn't matter when it tastes like garbage. I sooo wanted to like this place but it was a huge disappointment. Gonna be a while before I we go back here. Our friends felt the same and we left as 4 disappointed people and 2 VERY disappointed Birthday girls!

Yelp
What a lovely date night at the dragon room. I started off the meal with the Tart Vibrations and the kiwi syrup was so refreshing! There is far too many yummy things on the menu to try in one visit. The great thing about the menu is the small plate/tapas style so you can try lots of dishes without overstuffing yourself. We started off with the curry boiled peanuts and I honestly could bathe in the spicy curry broth the peanuts were served in. We had the Char-Siu BBQ Pork Ribs and I loved the sticky glaze on the ribs. I wanted one of every steamed bun they had but tonight we tried the Taiwanese Fried Chicken bun. It was the perfect bite with the spicy honey, kewpie Mayo, crispy chicken and crunchy pickle. The Bulgogi Joes was such an interesting take on sloppy joes and unlike anything I had ever tried. While everything was so amazing, my two favorite "bites" of the evening were the pork and chive steamed dumplings and we finished our meal off with the Milk Tea bread pudding. That bread pudding is something special and the blueberry boba anglaise was unreal and the sauce of dreams! We will definitely be back to try more amazing dishes!

Yelp
Dragon Room joins the array of restaurants lining the main drag along Gervais Street. The restaurant is small, offering a hip trendy indoor vibe. A portion of the restaurant is for table service while the other is a full service bar. Menu offers an array of asian themed foods from dim sum options, hearty protein dishes, and ramen. Great place to go on a date or with friends willing to order a few dishes to share. Staff was friendly and well versed in the menu, so do be afraid to ask for recommendations if you just can't decide.

Yelp
Amazing food and drinks and ambience. I would recommend every dish on their menu and every drink on their drink menu.

Yelp
I was surprise date night here and it was absolutely spectacular. Everything from the ambience to the customer service. Lavenders provide great detail and customer service. The cocktails were amazing. Julia, the manager on duty was also extremely attentive and made sure we had an amazing dinner the marinated mushrooms are some of the best I've ever had the soup dumplings are absolutely delicious but the item that stole the show or the crunch wrap tacos they were absolutely phenomenal. We truly enjoyed our dinner and will definitely be back.

LaToya A.

Yelp
Enjoyed our experience at The Dragon Room. We ordered the Egg Rolls, Char Sui Pork Ribs, Temaki Crunchwrap, Pork Belly Skewers, & the Lobster Rangoon Dip. Our fav was definitely the Pork Belly! 10/10. We received great service and received our dishes quickly. The music was a little loud, but we will definitely return.

Yelp
Everyone I have met since moving to Columbia, SC have ranted and raved about The Dragon Room. It unfortunately left much to be desired. While some standouts aspects, such as the vibe, service (Thank you Brooke for taking care of us!) were elevated and exceptional; the culinary and bar program were left lacking. We got a wide range of food, to try everything and take advantage of the "izakaya" style. Starting with the Lobster Rangoon Dip and Chicken Yakitori. The Lobster Rangoon Dip was incredibly underwhelming and lacking flavor, a common theme. The wonton chips were fried to almost burnt (in old tasting oil) and you could smell the Chinese five spice they douse everything in. The Chicken Yakitori was quite delicious, juicy and tender; ranked 2nd for my favorite dish. Next we got Mushroom Gyoza, Pork Belly Bao Buns, Pork Ribs, Ramen with Pork addition, and Garlic and Ginger Rice. I will speak on what I enjoyed first. The Pork Belly Buns were very well done, I appreciated the flavor and I thought the pork was very tender. Now what I didn't enjoy: The ribs were SOAKED in liquid smoke and were hard like rocks. Eating them was an affront. The Mushroom Gyoza were flavorless, just tasting like the Chinese five spice and old oil it was fried in (I don't think salt or garlic was added to anything) The Ramen's best aspect was the eggs, the kimchi was FLAVORLESS (I honestly think it was a feat how much little care you could taste in the food), the pork had so much liquid smoke it distorted the rest of the dish, and chicken dashi? Dashi is made from fish? Kelp? Do you mean chicken stock? I won't speak on the Garlic and Ginger rice because I had a few bites but it was just alright. Now to the drinks. Again, I had personal recommendations from people around the industry here in Columbia to try their bar program. I wish I could say it lived up to the hype. I got something called the Bountiful Earth which from the description I thought would be a beautiful amalgamation of flavor... it was basically a vodka sour (which I LOVE vodka sours but this one tasted so watery? Like watered down vodka?) My boyfriend got something like a bad old fashioned that they didn't even bother putting in half the components in. No orange peel. It mostly tasted like no one could be bothered to cook well, there is no passion just some line cooks trying to follow a recipe. Despite my frustrations with the Food and Bev I thought their website and online presence was a 8/10. Definitely is where their dollars and effort go. I spent over $100 of my own money to try and while I didn't like it I am glad to experience it. I had great conversation and service and the ambiance was again great. Overall I give it a 5/10 Thank you again Brooke!

Yelp
Back for more! This time around we tried a few new items on their menu and so delish! We recommend to start with the Banchan which is family-style side dishes of rice, soy-pickled mushrooms, napa cabbage kimchi, Sichuan cucumbers, pickled radish, seasonal vegetables. This will definitely feed two - four people and it's the perfect pairing to drinks. We also tried their smoked ribs and oh goodness they were so good! Another amazing experience! Thank you David for amazing cocktails once more. Service and ambience were on point for a great night out.

Yelp
Great sharing plates and delicious cocktails. Be prepared for a wait but well worth it!

Yelp
Our server Nadia was amazing, she offered a lot of suggestions and was very friendly. The tofu steam buns were my fav!

Yelp
I had a wonderful experience dining at The Dragon Room. It didn't seem like a particularly busy Saturday night, but there was still a good 30 minute wait for a table. The ambiance was very casual. Service was very good, we got to order at our own pace which I really liked as I'm indecisive as hell. We weren't super hungry, so we just ordered a bunch of apps and some drinks. Food was good. Didn't blow my mind but was good. Got the Moondragon as soursop caught my eye (I really like guanábana), it was very nice. Overall, very great time! Food: 8/10 Service: 9/10 Ambiance: 10/10

Yelp
Found this restaurant cruising downtown looking for a new dinner spot.We arrived small wait ordered drinks from the bar, and we were seated pretty fast. Our server took forever to come finally made it out my dinner date ordered some type of cocktail called the golden house she really didn't care for way to much ice but made it work.We ordered the bulgogi sliders for starters and they were actually really good. For dinner it was our first time we noticed portions were generous so we shared a plate of Nasi Lemak it was ok I'm not a fan on edamame the dish is loaded with edamame overall it was good. The restaurant for me is the perfect size not to big not to small just right for the right amount of people. Will try again in the future.

Yelp
I go here at least once a week. I enjoy the chill vibes and friendly bartenders. Their selection of cocktails and drinks are outside of the normal around Columbia, offering different spins on classic cocktails that really fit the theme of the restaurant. They have two menus, their normal menu and then their late night snacks. They stay open until 2am on Friday and Saturday! Their late night menu is to die for, with Loaded Tots, or Drunken Fried Rice; everything is an elevated cuisine when it comes to Asian food. It's a must try!

Yelp
The Family Foodies visited The Dragon Room on 8/30/24 for dinner. The restaurant was almost full when we arrived, but we were able to get a table right away. If you are looking for a great bar for a drink and a pre-dinner nibble, I would highly recommend; however, if you're wanting a meal, with conversation, this is not the place or at least, not on a Friday evening for dinner! The restaurant was too loud for our taste as it was difficult to hear each other at our table. Our waitress was knowledgeable and helpful. We ordered The Brillant Earth and the Peach Lassie to drink. Both were OK, but we would not order again. Then, we tried a variety of dishes. We had the Char Siu BBQ Pork Ribs and the Bulgogi Joe Sliders which were the highlight of our meal. I would definitely order these two items again! We also tried the Korean meatballs, egg rolls, Banchan, Shanghai Soup Dumplings, and a Tomato tarte. All were average--not spectacular but not horrible. The meatballs were cold, but the BBQ sauce was delicious. The egg rolls were homemade, but the filling was too soggy. The tomato tarte was tasty with a homemade crust, but too small to share. The soup dumplings were most disappointing as Trader Joe's' are better. The restaurant was very clean and the service was great. Overall, our Family Foodies enjoyed our Dragon Room experience. As a side note, with the name of "The Dragon Room", we expected to see more dragons used in the decor, and finally , but definitely not least, where would a person with mobility issues enter the restaurant? Perhaps, the restaurant could install a lift at the front stairs?

Yelp
Great food, drinks, and ambiance. This will be a go-to place on future trips to Columbia.

Yelp
Great drinks, awesome bartenders, and good vibes. My husband had the Caramelized Pork Belly and enjoyed it. It's definitely a place to check out when you're downtown.

Yelp
Great food, great service, great drinks! The "bao" buns with pork belly are delicious! The potstickers are very good too! Everything was delicious! Hard to pick a favorite!

Yelp
Food: 4/10. It was edible and not overcooked. It was bland in flavor. They charge you $6 to add protein but the protein to starch ratio is way off. For example, I got the lo mein with tofu. It literally had 1/4 pack of tofu (so maybe 5g of protein) as the $6 protein. Mind you tofu is only like $1 per lb. If you are going to upcharge for a cheap protein such as tofu, PLEASE make sure it's actually a reasonable serving of protein. Friend had the pho and it was very bland. She decided to take it home to season it versus wasting her money. We also tried the crunchwrap tuna tacos. The menu made it sound so promising with flavor but it fell flat like most other things we ordered did. At least the tuna was really fresh. Cost: spent $60 for 1 Entree w/adding protein plus 1 appetizers. This is nowhere near fine dining or appropriate protein portions so way over priced. Ambiance: very dark, difficult to see. Would I return? No, unless someone else is paying.

Yelp
The entrance still needs some work as you can't see if from the road and even upon walking in the front overhang doesn't have its name on it. But the inside is very nicely decorated. We ordered a few different things to try. Most everything was very good. What we didn't care for wasn't bad just not for us. Drinks were delicious.

Yelp
Not bad, but not great. I had high hopes for this Asian fusion inspired restaurant and was pleasantly happy with the menu variety but found most food items lacking in one thing or another. Food Sichuan hot chicken: Well cooked chicken but overall, found the sandwich to be very dry and needed another component to balance the flavors. We requested Kewpie mayo to add which did the trick. Pork and chive dumplings: Dumpling wrappers were on the gummy side, but filling flavor wasn't bad. Bao Buns: 2 per order and we found these the best out of all the items. The buns itself were fluffy and cooked well. Lobster Rangoon Dip: Very lacking in lobster flavor, resembles more of a thick sweet n spicy cheese dip rather than lobster dip. Drinks While the ingredients on the menu looked great, I felt as though they missed the mark on execution. They are working with ingredients to create craft cocktails but produced unbalanced drinks instead. Either the drink was too sweet or too overpowering of a single flavor. Ambiance/ Service: Ambiance and service were great. Darker setting with plenty of seating that can appeal to both date night and a friendly get together. Servers were great and attentive the whole time. Overall, this place wasn't bad but there wasn't anything that left a great enough impression for me to come back.

Yelp
First off, the ambiance is amazing. It feels like a speakeasy type vibe because of how tucked away it is. The food is great, some great apps with some variety. The ribs were my favorite thing, I didn't take a pic of them unfortunately. Cocktails are top notch. Great service also. This is a regular spot for me now!

Yelp
I decided to try this for the first time this past weekend and I was not disappointed! Everything on the menu looked delicious, and I was hungry so I decided to try a few things. ( don't judge me, leftovers make a great lunch!) I ordered the soup dumplings *3/5* - they were okay, but I felt that there wasn't enough "soup" to them and the dumpling dough was too thick. I also tried the Miso Mushroom soup *5/5*- now that was amazing, and unexpected because the broth was very dark brown. I'm so used to mushroom soup being "cream of mushroom" but this was light and very flavorful. I will definitely order this again. For my entree I decided to try one of their specials this week : Kung Pao Romanesco *5/5*. I'm not sure what part is Kung Pao or what makes it a romanesco, all I know is that it's vegetarian and I didn't even miss meat! It was chock full of flavor and it was filling too! definitely a great deal for $10. I ended up taking half of it home for lunch. I decided to hang out for while and ended up ordering the Korean meatballs $5 *4/5* they were okay, nothing to rave about. And I also ordered the Curry boiled peanuts. $5 *5/5*. They had a slightly sweet, mild curry flavor to them. but they are boiled peanuts so very messy. plan on needing lots of napkins. I also tried a few of their cocktails: The Miss Miso $14, and The White Rabbit $13, and finished with a Roku (a Japanese Gin) cucumber martini $12. Overall I think the bill was reasonable considering all of the food I ate (and took home). my total bill was around $78 - with about half of it being alcohol. So I would say the food is very affordable, just watch what you drink! They are open late, with a limited menu after 11pm, and you have to go to the bar to order but you can still sit in the dining room if you don't want to sit at the bar. Another thing I liked about this place is the bathrooms. They have 2 and they are unisex. The toilet is hiding behind a gorgeous wooden carved room divider screen. This is definitely going to become a new favorite place.

Yelp
Overall a disappointment; never been to a restaurant where your drinks come in plastic elementary school cups. Flavor of the food was VERY lack luster. Soup dumplings were very small and lacked the one key ingredient... soup. The pork and chive dumplings lacked any hint of chive and fell apart as if they were frozen. Found that odd as the menu says handmade; korean meatballs same thing. Grainy and fell apart as if frozen and microwaved. Flavor in the Korean chicken bun was spot on but again the chicken felt frozen, the pickle was great and carried a lot of the weight. The price point does not match the lack of flavor and the frozen/reheated feel of the food.
