Chicago’s Best Cozy Comfort Food Restaurants for Winter

"This gourmet sandwich spot channels childhood grilled cheese memories into a creation fit for grown-up tastes with a version that combines melty Muenster, sauteed spinach, and caramelized onions between two slices of sourdough. It’s also available at the Fat Shallot food truck and outposts in Evanston, the Merchandise Mart, and Sterling Food Hall (formerly Revival)." - Ashok Selvam, Eater Staff

The Fat Shallot Review - Lincoln Park - Chicago - The Infatuation

"After starting out as a food truck operation (hence the truck-shaped neon sign by the counter), Fat Shallot opened up their first brick and mortar in Lincoln Park. The menu only has six sandwiches, but they all taste great. The crispy buffalo chicken with creamy blue cheese and the Reuben with housemade corned beef are two of our favorites, especially when paired with a fun cocktail like a gin and tonic slushy, or an Adult Arnold Palmer. Similar to the menu, the space is compact: only a handful of tables and a couple of counter seats by the cashier. But, it's perfect for a quick lunch, casual dinner, or grabbing something to go." - John Ringor

Chicago’s sandwich powerhouse still rolls with its truck: truffle BLTs, buffalo chicken, and perfect fries. Regular at the city’s Daley Plaza Food Truck Fest and a frequent brewery pop-up guest, it’s a reliable downtown lunchtime win.

Great little spot! I work around the corner from Sterling Food Hall, and I've started taking all of my lunch breaks at the Fat Shallot. My usual is a Grilled Cheese, Tomato Bisque, and an Arnold Palmer. Always hits the spot! The service here is incredible too! Paula and Dani always brighten my day. If you need a quick lunch while you're in the loop, give this place a try!

Google
Overall very, very good. Food was well-prepared and flavorful. The corned beef was tender and very tasty. The Spicy-sesame fries were flavorful but could used a bit more sauce (maybe on the side?). However, overall the portions are plentiful. Service took awhile (I think they were shorthanded). Although it is abit pricey, the portions and flavor provided a good value. I'll be back!

Swung by The Fat Shallot in Lincoln Park for a quick lunch. Ordered the Truffle BLT and Spicy Sesame Fries. The sandwich was stacked with crispy bacon, avocado, arugula, tomato, and truffle aioli on thick-cut challah—super flavorful and satisfying. The fries had a nice kick from the sesame aioli, though they were a bit on the greasy side. Spent around $22 total. Service was friendly, and the vibe was laid-back. Solid spot for a hearty sandwich, but the fries could use a little tweak.

Loved my meal. Turkey sandwich was fresh and delicious and the Chicago dog chips were so fun to try

Google
I ordered a Reuben for lunch. The sandwich was excellent. As you can see in the picture, the corned beef was very thick cut, which is unusual. However, it was still flavorful and tasty. I could have used more sauce and sauerkraut, but overall, it was delicious and filling. I guess the good thing about not having too much sauce is the bread doesn’t get soggy.

Google
The Fat Shallot is next-level when it comes to sandwiches—absolutely worth the hype. Spent about $18 for a sandwich and fries, and I’d do it again in a heartbeat. Got the Truffle BLT ($13), and it was insane—the bacon was crispy, the truffle aioli was rich but not overpowering, and the toasted sourdough held up perfectly. Also grabbed an order of their Parmesan Truffle Fries ($5), which were crispy, salty, and packed with flavor. Service was quick, and the staff was super friendly. If you're looking for a bomb sandwich in the city, this spot is a must.

Google
The Ruben was fantastic. The pickle was very good. The blta was good but not great. We were told not to bother with the fries. Revival hall is nice with a lot of choices.

Hi All, Fat Shallot is by far one of the best spots to pick up lunch downtown. The sandwiches are all excellent, especially the Truffle BLTs and the Buffalo Chicken - they are just overflowing with goodness! :) The fries are great too, especially the spicy sesame ones. I think the only thing that matches the food quality is the friendliness and speed of the team - they are great to chat with while delivering orders with speed and accuracy. If you haven't tried Fat Shallot in the Sterling Food Hall, I highly recommend it!

Yelp
The Fat Shallot at Revival Food Hall was OUTSTANDING! I am a fan of all of the Fat Shallot locations, but I had a particularly wonderful experience here. We ordered catering for a company retreat, (~50 people), and the experience was tremendously smooth. The ordering process was easy, and their team, (shoutout to Grace), provided helpful recommendations. They were kind and willing to adapt as needed, and it felt so seamless compared to other catering experiences. We had originally ordered for a picnic, but on the day of the picnic, the forecast called for rain. The team members at the Fat Shallot were SO INCREDIBLY HELPFUL by allowing us to set up the lunch within the Food Hall, (AND helping -- going well above and beyond their job description). The rain easily could've put a damper on the day, but by the end, everybody had seats and felt overly satisfied by the delicious menu, (equally enjoyed by group with many diverse dietary restrictions). Living near the Fat Shallot in Evanston, I've had a lot of phenomenal firsthand experiences, but this experience at Revival definitely takes the cake. 10/10 recommend!

Yelp
This place is pretty darn legit! The sandwiches were delicious and more than filling. My coworker and I could both only eat half of our sandwiches! I had the turkey sandwich but swapped the pretzel roll for sourdough. One thing to note: the sourdough bread was toasted and was really hard/crunchy. Not bad but it was a little difficult to eat! I also got the truffle fries which were really good but the portion was hugeeeee definitely enough to share. Would've loved a smaller singles portion, if you will. I ended up throwing about half out (because LBH leftover fries just ain't it). Also next time I'd order the truffle sauce on the side. Overall a solid lunch spot for a yummy sando and quick service.

Yelp
The best Reuben ever, wow am I impressed. Keep in mind the price is a little high because of the area the place is in but wow it's so worth it. The rye is fresh, the cheese is fresh, the meat melts in your mouth. Absolutely worth every penny. There's also lots of open tables in the food hall and the service was quick and easy. Loved it all!

Yelp
Balanced, delicious BLT and perfect fries. Limited menu with "meh" portions of protein, couldn't imagine eating here any more than once per week, and only when supplemented with another meal.

Emily L.

Yelp
Great sandwiches perfect for carry out. I also loved the fries with the garlic aioli.

Yelp
I came here on a random Monday during lunch with my bestie who was in town. We both were taking a chance coming for lunch but what the hey!... am I right? We both ordered the Turkey sandwich, a side of tomato bisque, spicy sesame fries, two ginger lemonades and a cookie. The food: - Turkey sandwiches ... whoa! That's all. They're massive as heck. Like talk about bang for your buck. For $10.75, you're like ehhh if the sandwich is tiny, you put up with it because it's downtown Chicago. TFS definitely put me in my place with this sandwich. It was tasty, filling and huge. Even with the removal of the avocado the sandwich was able to hold its own and believe it or not, that matters. - Tomato bisque: fire. The crotons was the tip over the edge. Also without anything, this thick and creamy soup hits the spot. - Ginger lemonades: blah. There was more lemonade than ginger and I'm a ginger girl. I need it 50/50 or at least 60/40, with 60 being ginger more. They're both super strong flavors so I need there to be a balance. - Chocolate Chip Cookie: Imagine insomnia cookie but on steroids. This is that cookie and it's all worth it. Super soft and gooey. I'd order again from any of their locations including the food truck. Great job and worth the pricing.

Yelp
Best BLT's I have EVER had! Truffle butter/mayo whaaaaat. It's literally so good. Had them for the first time at Revival through ritual, and a second time with their food truck. I'm excited to eventually check out their patio in LP. Not only are the sandwiches sensational, but I'm pretty sure it's family operated, and they are doing hella work right now to feed frontline workers. Doesn't get any better than that. Love, Lexi

Yelp
Headline: Pretty legit BLT. Food: I loved the bacon by itself and the truffle aioli was delicious, but I'm not sure the whole sandwich entirely worked. Which is weird because, it's a BLT. Was it trying too hard to be something it's not? Did the avocado throw off the delicate balance of BLTness? A taste that went BLAT, perhaps, in my case. Also, it was a bit of effort to get all the flavors in my mouth at the same time. Thus my taking off pieces of bacon and enjoying those separately. Which was delicious. Service: Was swift and friendly. Price: Up there, not unreasonable. In sum, worth checking out for the bacon alone.

Yelp
Everything here is stacked high and full of flavor. The sandwiches are great, but give the cookie a try, too. I placed an order through Ritual for a turkey sandwich and a chocolate chip cookie. Pickup was super quick, and I took both items back to the office with me. The sandwich is fully loaded with copious amounts of turkey and avocado, along with cucumber, arugula, and a basil aioli. The pretzel bun is delicious and contains all these ingredients about as well as could be expected. The turkey is pretty thickly sliced. Turkey, in general, can be dry when it's too thick, but that wasn't a problem at all. Really good. The chocolate chip cookie from Fat Shallot is wildly underrated, IMO. I have gone here multiple times just for the cookie, and I'm honestly not sure why I don't do it more often. Like the sandwich, it's incredibly thicc and flavorful. This will probably sound like a dumb comment, but it tastes like cookie dough. More than your standard cookie does. Sometimes you'll find this with undercooked cookies, but that's not what's going on here at all. It's not gooey--I'd say the texture is almost cakelike (but much denser), and it all comes together to create a unique cookie experience everyone should try. Overall, I don't have a single complaint. Highly recommend.

Yelp
The Fat Shallot, while not on the main drag of Revival Food Hall, is not to be missed. They make great sandwiches that are perfect for lunch. While it was hard for me to try something new, as I always seem to find myself at Budlong Chicken whenever I visit Revival Food Hall, I'm glad I did. TFS has a small but varied menu of sandwiches, a soup of the day, sides, and cookies. Each of the sandwiches sounded tasty in their own right but I decided to go with the Pesto Chicken. It was a very decent-sized sandwich with probably a whole chicken breast's worth of meat on it. The rest of the toppings were ample and the entire package was flavorful and enjoyable. I paired it with a bag of chips, a pickle (which was HUGE), and a ginger lemonade. My meal, albeit pricey (coming in at $20!), really hit the spot and filled me up. And so it goes with Revival Food Hall: tasty little food stalls that offer a variety of scrumptious choices that are delivered at higher-than-they-should-be prices. It's this reason why RFH, and any stall in it (including Fat Shallot), will never be able to break into my normal rotation of lunch spots.

Yelp
Only been to the Fat Shallot for breakfast, but I'm sure the lunch options are great as well. The fat shallot breakfast sandwich is tasty with avocado and a sesame aioli. But my favorite is the egg and cheese (add bacon). The truffle aioli is also a nice touch (but a bit pricey at $2). I've only ever gotten sandwiches on the challah toast, which is fluffy and delicious. Always ordered ahead on ritual, so I've never had to wait or anything.
google avatar

Yelp
This is the best turkey sandwich I ever had. It's so refreshing to eat, given the perfect balance of the cucumber with the warm turkey slices and avocado. The pretzel bun is chewy and delicious! As someone who doesn't usually care for sandwiches, this sandwich really impressed me. Although I wished the sandwich came with a side. it was $10 and not very filling. Pro tip- order it through ritual- you won't regret it when your sandwich is neatly packed and waiting for you!

Yelp
Always delicious! Everything is made very well and the flavors are spot on! Vanilla malt shake - great and not too gritty from the malt powder Chocolate/espresso shake - So good!! Grilled cheese so crunchy on the outside and gooey on the inside, it's an easy pick. My absolute favorite is their turkey sandwich -- it's on a pretzel bun!

Yelp
I got their truffle BLT from MealPal. Taste: 4/5 it was pretty tasty, only a bit greasy. It was a bit messy as well with pieces of tomato, bacon, or avocado falling out. Size: 3/5 I was still hungry after =( Overall: 4/5 I wouldn't get this sandwich again but would like to try their other options!

Yelp
The Fat Shallot was a bright spot in my day! I've had lunch from their food truck, but it's been a while since my schedule has allowed me to coordinate with their curbside sightings on Clark. The brick and mortar installation in Revival Hall Food Court is a guaranteed way to get my fix whenever I'm downtown during business hours. I love a good quality, substantial sandwich, but most places leave me feeling cheated when ordering one from their menu. Therefore, I usually stick to making my own at home to satisfy my crave. Enter Fat Shallot with their winsome ways, nerdy names, and cunning combinations. They don't skimp on quality or quantity, and I love them for it! P. S. They forgot to put the bacon on my Truffle BLT this last time, and it was so good I didn't realize until a couple bites in! When I noticed the omission, I went back up to the counter to bring it to the gentleman's attention, and boy howdy did they make it right! Not only was there plenty of bacon for that sandwich, but I got another two meals out of the remaining slices. I'm on to you, Fat Shallot, but I'll be back, anyway!

Ron S.

Yelp
I ordered a rueben, truffle fries, and iced tea and it was $25. I pay less than that at a sit down restaurant for similar food downtown. Also the reuben sandwich was very thick cut corned beef, which was really fatty; most reubens are thinly sliced and leaner than this. It was disgusting to try and eat. Won't go back again, even if the food was extremely delicious, I can't afford to eat lunch at these prices often!

Yelp
Rating a vendor located in the Revival Food Hall isn't as simple as it seems. So much experience has to do with the energy of the crowd and the music. So please take the rest of my review with that in mind. The Fat Shallot at Revival Food Hall had friendly and quick service. During lunch rush, which is when I came by, their main job was to get you in an out of their food and wait line. They do a great job of this, I believe I got my food in about 5 minutes. I know I only ordered a sandwich, but I was still satisfied with the short amount of time it took for me to get my food! The size of the sandwich was good for me, a perfect size for lunch and still just enough room to get dessert if you were in the mood for it. Do not expect to have leftovers. If you have a heftier appetite maybe try ordering a side of soup with a sandwich. I'm sure it wouldn't disappoint. Their menu here is sparse, a few sandwiches, drinks, and milkshakes. I ordered their version of the BLT, which really was everything I expected. Crispy bacon, creamy avocado, arugula instead of lettuce was a nice touch. Their truffle aioli was definitely a step higher than simple mayonnaise. This was the best part of the sandwich and I would say the key factor that set their sandwich apart from other BLTs I've had. The only note I have is that the particular sandwich I was served could have used a few more tomato slices. For $10, the truffle BLT is nothing mind-blowing, but I guarantee that you'll walk away satisfied.

Yelp
Love love love Fat Shallot. I've visited their food truck and the spot at Revival and everything I have eaten has been prepared well and is delicious. It's a small menu, but it's not small on flavor. I especially enjoy the turkey sandwich - it's huge - but I can't resist eating it all usually. The pretzel buns are the perfect combo of crunchy, doughy and delicious. Ingredients are fresh and they don't skimp on them. Be prepared to not need a side if you want a sandwich (or go for it and try all of the sides also!). Staff is super friendly and even when they get busy, there's a smile in the kitchen area. A bit pricey for a sandwich, but considering that it's possible to make this 2 meals, it's well worth it.

Yelp
We came upon the Revival Food Hall by chance at it became one of our favorite stops while in Chicago. The Fat Shallot caught our eye right away. We got a fresh lemonade and split shrimp sandwich. (Sorry I can't recall what the name of it was..) but it was tasty! Pictures of both. The sandwich had a warm bun and cool shrimp salad in it. The flavor was intriguing and it made us want to keep eating more. The lemonade was incredible as it was so vibrant and refreshing. We wanted to come back and get a coffee shake but they weren't open over the weekend.... we will be back!

Yelp
Awesome grilled cheese! (I added the tomato) perfectly cooked. Sweet people. I can't wait to go back on a warmer day and have a Chai Gingersnap Shake
google avatar

Joaquin N.

Yelp
I'll skip the whole Revival Hall setting and get straight to what I ordered. The Fat Shrimp Sandwich: as you can see by my pictures, they load up that brioche bun with an entire sea of shrimps. Even for a guy like me, who loves shrimp, this was a lot. The brioche bun was a nice sweet touch to the sandwich, but I wasn't thrilled about the sauce. For $11 bucks, it was to bland tasting. With a little more spicy or kick, this would've been well worth it.
google avatar

Hannah L.

Yelp
The service here is slow. I came with two friends and we all ordered sandwiches. No one ordered before us. After about 10 minutes, one of my friends went down a couple stores to get fries. She got those fries before any of us got our sandwiches. Additionally, we finished 3/4 of the fries before one of the sandwiches was done. When we finally got all of our sandwiches and took a bite, none of us were impressed. Were the sandwiches alright? Yeah. Would we go back? Possibly. Would we wait for the amount of time we had to wait? Absolutely not. There were no orders in front of us, it shouldn't take 20 some minutes before one sandwich is ready.
google avatar

Jackie G.

Yelp
Rule number one of Fat Shallot: always eat Fat Shallot in private. Just kidding, but seriously, their sandwiches are so messy! I don't care how good-at-eating you are, the contents will get all over you, your face, and your desk. But God damn if it isn't tasty. I eat there about two times per month and always try to find a wall-facing spot to chow down. I've had the truffle BLT 5/5, the turkey sandwich 4.5/5, and the grilled cheese + tomato soup 4/5. In the BLT and turkey, they do not skimp on the avocados - God bless them - but those mofos will pop out of your sandwich if you grip too hard. All of the breakfast sandwiches have been delicious too. Service is quick and polite. They generally have one of the shortest lines of any vendor in Revival food hall.
google avatar

Yelp
Excellent value, portion and quality. Come here for FREE pickles! Big $10 ITALIAN SANDWICH fit for a Manly Muscled Man. I had to use both hands to eat it. A perfectly balanced sandwich (may apply to ALL) with veggies (giardiniera, greens), mozzarella cheese, and salami. Smooth GINGER LEMONADE. Generous 3-4 oz pour (1/4 of cup) of TITO's LEMONADE. Order online through CHOWNOW for quick pick-up. Otherwise, 10 mins.

Yelp
Food hall is always buzzing with people around lunch time. Ordered the Turkey Sandwich and it was amazing. Pesto mayo and cucumber hit the spot. Good food, okay service (5 stars for food, 3 stars for service).
google avatar

Rebecca J.

Yelp
First, I want to thank Fat Shallot for being environmentally conscious! Thank you for using compostable boxes and even letting me bring my own tupperware for you to put the food into. My favorite is the truffle BLT. The truffle flavor really comes out, the avocado is fresh, and there are STACKS of bacon! I'm honestly so impressed by how thick the sandwich is. 10/10 would recommend!
google avatar

Xavier F.

Yelp
Glad I got the recommendation from a coworker to try them out. Shallot dishes out well portioned artisanal sandwiches on a range of fantastic breads. Leaned towards the pesto chicken which didn't disappoint. With a mix of arugula chicken pesto and artichokes the flavors were intense. The only down side is I would have liked the chicken a bit warmer but overall it was on point. Got a side of the tomato basil which was great on the breezy day and offered a nice side to dip my sandwich and get some of that delicious basil into the sandwich bread. They have massive cookies that you shouldn't miss out on if you have a few calories to spare. Overall I would say the food is great, line was fairly fast and the service was pretty good as well. Another great spot to visit in the revival market.

Yelp
Came here for happy hour on a Thursday their Tito's Ginger Lemonade made us happy, if not too happy by the end of the day. We also had their grilled cheese which was awesome. Loved the staff too! Super nice and friendly and they just made our day.
google avatar

Yelp
Being in the Loop, you're absolutely inundated with lunch options. Revival Food Hall narrows down the list by curating some of the best restaurants in the city in one place; let me help to narrow it down even further by recommending The Fat Shallot as one of my favorite vendors there. Classics such as the BLT get the Fat Shallot twist, and include arugula and truffle aioli. But the real reason to go is their chai-ginger snap milkshake...calories be damned! Well worth the extra time of the elliptical. Good people, serving great food! There's no reason why you shouldn't stop by. In addition to their spot at Revival, they also have a brick-and-mortar in Lincoln Park, as well as a food truck! Why are you still reading this?! Get off your butt and go!
google avatar

Charlie S.

Yelp
Waited for my order for 20 minutes, and they never made it. When I asked, they said they are out of BLT ingredients. Had to get a refund. Pretty useless at selling food. Another time I tried to get the BLT there they were sold out as well. Ok, maybe you shouldn't be in this business if you habitually understock ingredients for 1 out of 5 items on your menu.
google avatar

Jake B.

Yelp
This place sucks. To be fair, their Truffle BLT is very good. But therein lies the problem. I've been to this place a handful of times in the last 2 weeks, each time at slightly past 1:00 p.m. (which is still during the lunch rush in downtown Chicago). Each time I've been, I've tried to order the Truffle BLT. Each time I've tried to order it, it's been sold out. I've tried to order it at least 5 times in the past 2 weeks to no avail. Each time, I then say "ok, thanks anyway," and whatever judgmental hipster is working the register is a total jerk about Fat Shallot's inability to properly operate a restaurant. I was informed by their plethora of judgmental hipsters that that if I'm not there by 11 am, I have no chance at the Truffle BLT. They're also regularly sold out of their other sandwiches by 1 pm. Whoever is the buyer/in charge of ensuring that the restaurant has enough ingredients for the day is terrible at his or her job. What kind of restaurant runs out of its flagship sandwich every day before the lunch rush is over? Apparently only poorly run restaurants like Fat Shallot. After my last experience, I'm done trying to give this place my business. I've gone out of my way to try to do so multiple times, but apparently they don't want it. Also, this was a great place to take clients for a quick lunch during deposition preparation or during a break in a deposition. No more. I will not be returning, nor will I be taking any friends or clients to this place or recommending it to anyone. Hopefully, Fat Shallot makes some changes. Ensuring that your restaurant has enough ingredients should be an easy fix. If not, they should stick to the food truck business and let a functional restaurant that is able to serve its customers open in its place. Love, A Former Customer

Yelp
Popped into Revival Food Hall to have a quick lunch after a meeting nearby before heading back to my office. I ordered the ham and cheese sandwich - shaved smoked ham, Brie, honey dijonnaise, and shaved asparagus on a pretzel bun. $10 and the sandwich was HUGE. when I say huge, I mean the ham piled on it was at least 1.5-2 inches thick. The sandwich was delicious, however I do have one thing I wasn't fond of. They left the rind on the slices of Brie that they put on the sandwich. I know, I know, you can eat the rind, but honestly I feel like just because you CAN eat it, doesn't mean most people do. Anyways, would be nice to have that removed, but I removed it myself and ate the sandwich. The honey dijonnaise was awesome and a great addition to the sandwich. I got the "One Potato Two Potato" kettle cooked BBQ chips and they were amazing. When I ordered, I didn't read the menu correctly and actually thought I was getting a ham and cheese grilled cheese lol - nope. So next time I'm back, I got my eye on the grilled cheese. Dude next to me sitting at the little bar ordered the fat Shrimp and when he picked it up after they called his name, he had the same reaction I had to my sandwich - "oh, shit!" Keep doing you, Fat Shallot.

Yelp
Love their sandwiches and salads. I frequently order lunch there and I'm never disappointed. Turkey sandwich is my favorite!

Yelp
The food here is delicious. I had heard good things about Fat Shallot so I took a chance and ordered the Truffle BLT and the potato salad. It was 6pm on a Wednesday night and I ordered the LAST of the potato salad. Thank goodness I got it otherwise I would have missed out on some good stuff! The truffle BLT was delicious. The portion was good and something about it, either the bread or the spread, tasted sweet and so good. The bread was perfectly grilled and crispy. I scarfed the whole thing down in one sitting. Unfortunately, the only bummer to this location (vs the food truck) is that they don't serve fries here. Overall though we enjoyed the food tremendously and enjoyed sitting at the Revival Hall which has a great ambiance and atmosphere.

Yelp
Really confused about all the hype around this place. Came here for lunch during the weekday and the line was so long. I got the grilled cheese ($8) and tomato bisque ($5) and neither were that great given the cost. The grilled cheese was so bland and had not much going for it besides it being super greasy. The tomato bisque was so acidic that I could not finish it at all. Disappointed in this place since I've heard great things but may try the truffle blt since I have heard this was the signature dish.

Yelp
Nice place for lunch at downtown area. The cashier guy is really nice and the ginger lemonade is good! The BLT is too tasty to stop eating. I totally forgot I need to diet to keep fit

Yelp
Wow their Turkey Sandwich is good! I've never toasted pretzel buns before, and now I know what I was missing in my life. There is a perfect proportion of crunchy arugula, smooth basil aioli, Turkey and creamy avocado. (Also comes with cucumber which I did not eat). I would order this again in a heartbeat!

Yelp
I work right cross the street from revival and come to The Fat Shallot often. Their food is good, which is why I am not giving them 1 star. However, some of the employees seem to HATE customers. I come their often, and usually get a sandwich. Every once and a while I get the tomato bisque. I always ask for 2 pieces of bread for dipping. I always pay for this with no issue. But for some reason, they are always annoyed by this item. The last time I ordered the 2 slices of bread, they decided to give me a pretzel bun. I nicely asked if they would give me the normal white bread for dipping. This question annoyed the long haired fellow so much that he said - well what kind of bread would you consider "regular" with a huge attitude. I pointed out the bread that I usually receive without question. I am not sure why this was such an issue for him, being as it is obvious that a pretzel bun wouldn't be the proper bread to use for dipping. Afterwards, while I was still waiting for my bread in front of him, he decided to go to his colleague and ask her, "did you hear what I said to that girl about the bread", and they continued to laugh about it. I thought this display was completely unnecessary and a disgusting way to treat someone. At the end, they gave me just one piece when I paid for two. I was too embarrassed to go back and ask for the 2nd piece that I already paid for. Obviously I wont be back. There are too many options in Revival and the city of Chicago in general to receive this kind of service.

Yelp
Love Revival Food Hall. Decided on Fat Shallot over many good options. Ordered Chicken Pesto and Arugula BLY. Both were fantastic. Only regret was not adding Grilled Cheese to order. Fat shallot is great. So is the Food Hall.

Yelp
Wanted a quick lunch, tried the chicken pesto sandwich and it was so flavorful and delicious! Definitely recommend (a bigger sandwich that can be split between two to hold you off till dinner).

Yelp
Waited for nearly 20 minutes for a sandwich and never got my order - ended up having to leave without it so I wouldn't miss a meeting. I guess they were making a bunch of food for a catering order and just didn't think it was worth bothering to make a turkey sandwich for me? Any way, enjoy you $10 Fat Shallot, never coming back here for lunch again.

Yelp
I came here with my husband yesterday for lunch and was pleasantly surprised how good The Fat Shallot was. I had the grilled cheese which was great but significantly smaller than the Chicken Pesto sandwich my husband had which was almost double the size. We shared the soup of the day (tomato bisque) and the garlic/dill slaw. The slaw was absolutely out of this world- I'm going to try and recreate it at home!

Yelp
Stopped by in Revival Hall for soup and salad. It was very good -- high quality ingredients at decent value. Watched them make grilled cheese sandwiches -- these looked good, but they need better equipment. The grill is too small, so chef scrambles between 2 baby grills, almost George Foreman size. They used Farmesan Regganio for the soup. We will definitely be back -- great job, team!

Yelp
Was in Revival Food Hall to grab lunch with a friend and we stopped by here. I ordered the Fat Shrimp sandwich, which sounded amazing from its description but in reality fell a bit short. Kudos to The Fat Shallot for not skimping on the shrimp--it was honestly one of the hardest things I've tried to eat without making a mess because the shrimp was just falling out left and right. However, the shrimp didn't taste fresh at all, and the texture was kinda mushy as if it was old and defrosted. I liked the brioche bun, but the taste of the sandwich was pretty bland. There was so much sauce but it was mostly mayo and zero seasoning. Even some salt and pepper would have kicked things up a notch. Probably would not come back as my sandwich was not worth the $11-12 I spent. It seems like there are way better places to eat in Revival.

Yelp
Got a great deal on a sandwich from here via the Ritual app. Had the turkey sandwich on a pretzel roll and it was very good, lots of turkey and the roll was fresh, the basil aioli was a great addition. They're located towards the southeast side of the Revival Hall food court and they have a little bar area where you can sit and eat.

Yelp
Where do I start..... I paid $10 for a breakfast sandwich (I added bacon)... take my first bite and find a LONG BLACK HAIR entwined in the sandwich. It was absolutely disgusting! Even sans hair the sandwich would have been extremely mediocre and definitely overpriced, but the black hair is haunting me. Absolutely would not recommend the fat shallot.

Yelp
Probably the best BLT I have ever had. Must try. I will keep coming back and try to convince myself to try something else.

Yelp
Best pretzel bun ever. Had the breakfast sandwich (egg, avocado, spicy mayo) on the pretzel bun and it was the perfect combo. I'll be back for the buttery, salty pretzel bun. I asked and learned that they are from Highland bakery - hopefully I can find them at a store somewhere!

Yelp
I went there for lunch the other day and it was sooooo tasty! When you go, get the Fat Shrimp. It's so great! Plus the staff is super nice!
