Celebrity-Owned Restaurants You Should Know

"Celebrity: Emily Saliers Started in 1993 with investment from Indigo Girls bandmate Emily Saliers, this brunch classic is now all over the Southeast but is still very much cherished by locals who flock to their favorite Flying Biscuit restaurant for their signature creamy grits, oatmeal pancakes, and of, course, their sugar-coated biscuits. Don’t sleep on the apple butter, which harmonizes nicely with the doughy biscuit. Whether you’re a meat eater or vegan, looking for a light bite or something so indulgent that you’ll be set to hibernate the rest of the weekend (eyes on you queso-covered fried chicken and chorizo hash), there’s something for everyone here. Plus, breakfast at all their casual and loudly colorful venues is the perfect way to ease into the weekend." - nina reeder, juli horsford, demarco williams

Flying Biscuit - Candler - Review - Candler Park - Atlanta - The Infatuation

"Whether you’re a meat eater or vegan, looking for a light bite or something so indulgent that you’ll be set to hibernate the rest of the weekend (eyes on you queso-covered fried chicken and chorizo hash), there’s something for everyone at Flying Biscuit. Started in 1993 in Atlanta, this brunch favorite is now all over the Southeast but is still very much our Atlanta sh*t. We all have our preferred Flying Biscuit location, which we routinely hit up for their signature creamy grits, oatmeal pancakes, and of, course, their sugar-coated biscuits, which come with apple butter." - Nina Reeder

Holy cow! This food was a southern delight but come ready to loosen your belt. We ordered way too much but enjoyed every bite we could take. Chicken and waffles with gravy - a heart attack with a smile French toast with berry compote - sweet and sinful Grilled grits cake and potatoes - over the top but in the best way. We spent 3 hours walking off the calories at the Fernbank museum.

I rarely leave negative reviews however this place was so disappointing. We came right after the morning rush. Was not busy. 2 servers working. Both polite but our server was slow.Which isn't that big a deal but we waited and waited for our food. Husband finally asked about it. She comes right back with it. It was cold. Everything was cold and I'm not even a stickler about hot food. I'm a mom and very rarely do I get super hot meals lol, so a mediocre warm meal is fine with me. But everything was too cold. I got eggs scrambled with cheese and the cheese was burnt. My husband ate his food cold (didn't eat it all) and I had her put mine in the microwave. We never got asked if we wanted refills. I did get my coffee refilled once after waiting about 15 minutes. I can understand things taking a while when it's super busy however it was not. We did receive a 25% discount which was appreciated. The guy in the kitchen was fussing the whole time we were there. It was just not the experience we were hoping for. It was the first time we went there and the last time we went there.

We came to The Flying Biscuit Cafe this morning for breakfast. Lots of options, you come in with an appetite. My Chicken and waffles were okay. The waffles were a little over cooked, however the chicken was crispy and buttery. I coated with syrup all over the plate. The vibe was fun in the restaurant, staff was helpful and friendly, the table clothes were colorful and quirky. Southern breakfast food served all day. All payments is accepted, plenty of parking available. Pets are welcomed outside.

Google
Not very big but decent amount of space for a breakfast or brunch date . I arrived with a party of 14 not including the 7 kids but they were Kid friendly but this Location didn't have the kids eat free deal like the other Location .We had 2 servers but only one seem to be able to Maintain and handle such a large group like ours .Friendly nevertheless great Food and Mimosas. Most meat such as Sausage contain Chicken so It's a chicken sausage.

Our first visit to The Flying Biscuit on DeKalb Ave was a great experience! I ordered the Taco Pancakes ($14), which were absolutely delicious and much larger than I expected. The chicken chorizo was a standout—an amazing combination with the pancakes and syrup for anyone who enjoys a sweet and savory breakfast. My boyfriend got the Bacon Egg and Cheese Bowl ($8), and I enjoyed a mimosa ($7) to round out the meal. The food came out quickly, and we were seated right away despite a D1 men’s basketball team’s bus being parked out front. Great food, fast service, and a smooth experience all around!

Google
Amazing grits! Biscuit was great as well. Everything was delicious down to the jam. My server Presley (sp?) was great! Accidentally left my sweater and was able to retrieve it the next day.

Google
I am truly disappointed with the food that my family received. Service was quick and the waitress was polite; however the food was horrible. The chicken sausage was overcooked and the remaining order was not served hot. My daughter’s tacos were cold filled mostly with sour cream. Buyer beware!

Google
I am so glad they shut down the other Chandler Park location. This one makes me ever so pleased to forget the other one existed. The service from the arrival to departure was great. The atmosphere was true to the Flying Biscuit touch and very clean and bright. Staff was delightful and warm. I will say We miss the hard biscuits with the soft inside. Don't get me wrong these biscuits were good too. Yes we enjoyed our meal and the grits are always on point. Thanks guys...I was a little nervous thinking this would be the same horrible experience I had at the now closed Chandler Park location. We will be back again soon!

Yelp
I have to say the food was good but honestly the customer service sucked. I changed 1 thing about my order and it came out wrong. I waited for 1 item to be replaced by the time I got done eating that 1 side still had not come to the the table. I asked for a box. The lady brought me a box for my eggs, grits, and potatoes but still have not got that other side. So once again I ask for it. I waited a good 5-7 minutes before they finally came. I should have gotten my meal for free honestly.

Yelp
Wow! What a warm & inviting space with genuine southern hospitality. The colors are vibrant, with bright floral designs. The hosts when you enter, and our waitress welcomed us warmly with big smiles. The menu excited us when we were looking somewhere in area for breakfast. Food and service both delightful! Place was packed and we got our meals so quickly. I had the small breakfast bowl, bacon egg & cheese over the most delicious grits, with one of their legendary biscuits on the side. "Small" is super filling. Be sure to ask for their apple butter to go with it. It's to die for! Pancake breakfast tacos are so huge, we couldn't finish! Pancakes are super fluffy and half inch + thick! Our server was super nice & attentive. I would look forward to coming back here. Unexpected awesome discovery first time in area. Highly recommend!

Yelp
The GRITS, The GRITS, The GRITS!! I've been here two weeks in a row. Both times I had a great experience. The first server we had was JAMIE the second was SHAWN both were great. The food is always delicious. I'm wild about the biscuits they are to die for, I love mine with the homemade apple butter. This is a nice quaint restaurant with beautiful decor. The staff seems like old friends. I have a favorite table, I'm lucky enough to get almost everytime I visit. It's located right as you step into the restaurant on the right, you can see everything that's going on inside. One of my favorite dishes is the chicken biscuit and gravy.

Yelp
We went for a Sunday brunch for two and got seats relatively quickly at the bar area. The waiter was nice and recommended us some dishes since it was my first time there. I ordered the Hangover Hash and it was delicious! If it is your first time there, I definitely recommend ordering from the "Fantastic Favorites" section of the menu since each dish comes with their signature flying biscuits and apple butter. The moon dusted potatoes were also yummy and would recommend it as well. The inside was very colorful with cute posters, it was a great place to get brunch with a friend while sipping on some mimosas!

Chalyndia B.

Yelp
I went here and I enjoyed the breakfast food you get a lot for your money it's very tasty. The only thing I dislike was the dreamy grits. Sabrina was a great waitress and very kind and knew a lot about the menu.

Yelp
Now things have turned around this is my 4th time coming back. Food is hot and fresh with fast service got my food under 15 mins. I sat at the bar. I didn't want to give up on them and they showed it can be done.

Yelp
Hubby and I enjoyed the atmosphere and services again here at Flying biscuit! I remembered to get pictures of the yummy food this time. Hubby liked the stuffed French toast I got the waffle with fruit. The cheese grits or so creamy!
google avatar

Sophia W.

Yelp
I like this place! The ambiance is LOVELY and the decor is so beautiful. The service was pretty good, the place was pretty packed when we went and the amount of noise was sort of overwhelming, but the food came in a good amount of time. The meals themselves were yummy, I got the chicken and waffles, which was great, and my girlfriend got the strawberry cheesecake stuffed French toast, which was also lovely! The grits are delicious, and the turkey bacon. The only reason I give it four is the layout of the restaurant is close quarters and it makes it hard to hear if you're with a big party.
google avatar

Julie R.

Yelp
The food is stellar. I got my usual: smoked salmon scramble with a side of grits and an iced chai. The dill cream cheese is a nice compliment to the salmon. The grits are so creamy and are to die for. They have "gluten friendly" (not gluten free, but close) items marked on the menu, which is helpful. I have celiac, and have never had an issue with their food. The mood is a little inconsistent. One minute it's silent, and the next minute, there's music blaring.

Yelp
This new location was a fantastic new spot! There's plenty of parking and seating here and the food is as good as ever. Obviously it's still one of our go-to spots for a nice brunch and this just upped their game.
google avatar

Yelp
Hands down my favorite location of them all! I've become a bit of a regular and usually grab a seat at the bar. The service here is consistently top-notch--some of the best I've had in a while. Always a great experience!

Yelp
Who doesn't love a city icon? The Candler Park location is cozy and welcoming, with outside and inside seating. A great selection of flavorful mimosas and brunch entrees. I highly recommend the dreamy creamy grits...my favorite. Staff are awesome and my food came to the table quick and hot.

Yelp
I returned to Atlanta for a visit after being away for a few years, and was so excited to return to The iconic Flying Biscuit. I was so disappointed. The light, fluffy biscuits the restaurant is named for were gone, replaced with dry, flat tasteless biscuits that resemble the grocery store frozen variety. I only took 2 bites. The potatoes are not fresh made, also seemed like frozen diced potatoes with too much salt. Only the scrambled eggs were tasty. So sad. New owners? Cutting corners? It's like a totally different restaurant now.
google avatar

Isaiah C.

Yelp
Simply amazing great food, good vibe, and the staff is always friendly. Definitely worth checking out again.
google avatar

Cherie H.

Yelp
Disgusting food. Service mediocre. Cute decor. I have to say that the food here was absolutely shameful. The grits tasted watery & spoiled. The scrambled eggs were definitely not fresh cracked but instead either the rehydrated power kind or the ones from a premixed carton. The sage sausage was old, dry and resembled a leather hockey puck. Biscuit okay, but a grocery store freezer biscuit would be better. No one came to check on us after the food was delivered until it was time to pay. I can 1000% say that the Yelp reviews are bogus. Do yourself & your stomach a favor and skip this. You have been warned!

Yelp
Super friendly service and yummy food no matter how busy this place gets. Delicious options that also include vegan and gluten free. Adorable and charming atmosphere. This place has been a staple for quite some time. Note: they are relocating summer of '24 I'm sure the new location will be just as awesome. They deserve newer and bigger digs. The OG location really be missed.

Yelp
Food was really good. Grits was dreamy and creamy like the menu says. Staff was hospitable

Yelp
Where do I start?!??? Horrible! Franchising this location was the worst decision ever. Killing the rep of an Atlant a institution. My daughter requested to come here because she now lives in LA and wanted to eat here because it used to be one of our favorite brunch spots after church. First, it took forever to get service after being seated, it took a long time to get our drink order. At that time we, we asked to have the order for a 3 year old expedited because he was hungry and irritated. I got my pancake order served in a DIRTY plate. From that point I was done. The toddler meal that we requested to be expedited came out last. And the pancakes were raw. We sent them back and you would think they would bring out the a fresh batch right away. No we waited. We had to ask for replacement. The adults were done eating when the trash batch came out. The servers need training. Instead of walking around the table and handing me a hot cup of coffee, it was handed me over the length of the table. Almost tipping over and burning me. When collecting the dirty plates, instead of actually "collecting" them, they expected us to hand them to them. Also, tell the waitress that straws go in an apron pocket, not in her back pocket on her butt! Lastly, the pancake I sent back on the dirty plate. Guess when I got the replacement? When the table was cleared and we received our check!

Yelp
We found the Flying Biscuit as a breakfast option while visiting Atlanta for Drum Corps International and honestly, I never want breakfast from anywhere else. The building is small and unassuming, but we were seated right away. Our server was so lovely and pleasant. We got drinks right away, and she was happy to answer any questions we had. Our son got pancakes , which looked light and fluffy and he devoured them. My husband and I each got the grits bowls. They came with grits and included four toppings: i ordered an over hard egg, cheddar, spinach and mushrooms. For me, the egg was perfect. I like it slightly crispy around the edges with nothing moving and this did not disappoint. But the star of the show was the grits. It's nearly impossible to get yummy grits in my home town, and these were creamy and flavorful. I could have cried. We all got biscuits served warm with fresh apple butter, too. Breakfast is not usually my favorite meal, but this could change my mind! Great food. Great service. Great prices.

Yelp
Every time I visit the Atlanta area this a go to spot for some good southern food. I think part of it is nostalgic for me. The first time family brought me here was before Atlanta was such a hustling and bustling town. Service has always been friendly and attentive. Can't really say there's anything special about the food it, but I feel it's just a special place to get good home cooked southern food. The only thing I feel could use an upgrade is the coffee. They sure could use better grounds. In my humble coffee snob attitude chicory is better than what they serve. Yes, yes, I'll accept the hits for that remark lol.
google avatar

Gamali C.

Yelp
The food is so good that I had to visit twice! The mimosas are amazing, couldn't get enough of them. The first time I visited, service took awhile, but it was worth the wait. The second visit was so much better! Faster service and highly attentive. The ambience is great, with eye catching decor that suits the menu.

Yelp
My visit to this restaurant was on a Saturday morning and there was a slight wait for a party of 6. The servers were super kind and the restaurant was lively and clean. I ordered the Hot Chicken Waffle with Gravy and Eggs on top. The chicken and waffle were cooked perfectly but I think the buffalo sauce and gravy was a little overwhelming. I had a biscuit, home fries and grits to try on the side and they were all great. Their grits has cheese in it adding a nice flavor profile. The biscuits came with cinnamon apple butter as it is September and i wish the butter wasn't chilled. Otherwise a great meal 3.7/5 stars for me.

Yelp
I visited here on a Thursday in the year of our lord, 2023. My aunt and I had breakfast. If I'm not mistaken, this is the flying biscuit originally opened by the singing group the Indigo Girls . Fun fact I went to school with Amy Ray. anyway, me and my aunt both ordered the hangover hash. this is a mixture of moon, potatoes, eggs, black bean salsa, and chicken tenders. The place is very cozy in the heart of Candler Park . our waitress was nice and the service was great. this is not my first rodeo ass. I have been to the Peachtree Corners location. The food is great in both places as it is fresh, not frozen. A great place for breakfast, but it also has burgers and lunch items .As for cost, it's a little high but you're getting quality for the $. Highly recommend it.
google avatar

Cheryl D.

Yelp
I'm here with my daughter. I've never brought her here. Imagine that. Lol. Anyhoo, we are here. I was told that ownership changed by other people but noted that the food was the same. We ordered the Shrimp and Grits w/the Moon Dusted Potatoes. Everything was good. I noticed that the entree used to have a side salad that came with it, but as times change, so did the menu. I did miss the fresh basil garnish on top. Overall, our meals were great. We devoured our food. Great time, and we'll be back!

Yelp
So I accidentally went to this restaurant I had some coupons for Maple Biscuit Company and really wanted to try them out but this is a totally different company. So The Decor is pretty good I didn't see the whole restaurant but from the little bit I saw it was well put together and very clean. The food came out pretty fast, it was nice and warm.
google avatar

Rosalie D.

Yelp
Best breakfast ever, clean and great service will definitely recommend this location h
google avatar

Jay D.

Yelp
Went with party four & was told it'd be 30-40mins. Ended up being one hour on a Sunday afternoon. The grits are creamy. The bacon is great. The potatoes were dry though. And I was very disappointed with the biscuit especially considering the name of this place ! They tasted store bought. Popeyes biscuits are better than this, tbh. Probably won't be back
google avatar

Caroline N.

Yelp
Excellent service. I appreciate the vegan options listed on the menu as it give those of us that are vegans an actual choice. Visited on a Thursday afternoon, and my party was seated very quickly. I ordered the tofu wrap with potatoes, both were very delicious. You'll definitely get your money's worth if you order it. This is not my first time visiting and definitely won't be my last. I look forward to visiting again when in town to see if any new options are added for vegans.
google avatar

Keith E.

Yelp
Excellent food! I had a grit bowl and the grits and biscuit was amazing! Great service and a fantastic little place to get breakfast.
google avatar

Sandy S.

Yelp
Visiting ATL again after 10+ years and was not sure if The Flying Biscuit was going to hold up to my memory. I was not disappointed, in fact I have to say it was one of the best breakfast's I have ever had. Nothing better than a southern breakfast. My omelet was perfect, the grits were like lick your bowl delicious and the biscuit was perfect. The service was so friendly and nice. Great meal. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Michael P.

Yelp
Flying Biscuit has been declining for years. This new location has set a new low. I ordered the hot chicken and waffles. The description says buttermilk fried chicken tenders, signature hot style. What came out was room temperature tenders that looked like they came from the freezer with hot sauce poured on them. Not even edible. I sent it back and they didn't offer to comp the meal. I long for the cramped original flying biscuit of the old days where the food was good and the ambiance was special. This isn't worth your visit or your time. Oh, and when did they start charging a 3.5% service charge to use credit cards? My son ordered the High Flyer, I've never seen this teenage athlete leave food on his plate - he only ate half of his food.
google avatar

Juli F.

Yelp
Hostess said '5-10 min.' 25 minutes later, I'd watched them seat everyone who came after and the lobby's empty. She acts confused that I want to eat. Service: as slow but more cheerful. My cold breakfast came before hubby's. He never got the side he ordered but it wasn't on the $38 tab. We were there 1 hr 10 min, of which I spent 5 min eating. We used to love The Flying Biscuit. Not even the biscuits are the same. Hint: at Waffle House, they refill coffee. sigh
google avatar

Dustin D.

Yelp
Kindest customer service I've ever experienced. Fluffy biscuits, delicious compote. 11/10 highly recommend!
google avatar

Michele C.

Yelp
Really enjoyed our meal today! Chris provided great service for us. Sadly we are just in town visiting family but we'll be back for sure. Chicken and waffles was fresh and hot (steamin' not spicy unless you want it spicy just ask!) Added from the sides menu a biscuit and chicken gravy. Best decision ever! If you have someone to share a meal with, you can satisfy your craving for both!
google avatar

Crystal H.

Yelp
Had a great lunch with a friend this weekend. Excellent service and the best waffle ever. Did not love the chick tender (good nothing special). Also ordered the potatoes to go after seeing them on another table. Spectacular loaded potatoes. Definitely will go back again!
google avatar

Tiffany B.

Yelp
Everything here is delicious I love the grits The salmon scrambled was incredible However the fried green tomatoes wasn't that good
google avatar

Kesht R.

Yelp
Flying Biscuit Candler Park. Food wasn't that great today. Sunday, 2/6/2022. I've been to this location about 3 times in the last year or so. Wasn't sure what to get as I didn't have anything in particular I wanted other than Fried Green Tomatoes. They didn't have any. That's weird. But ok. I ordered the salmon and eggs and it was not good. I've had the dish before. The salmon was over cooked and tasted like bacon. Hair was in my grits. Server replaced the grits but I thought she should have at least gave a discount. Nope. Needless to say I wasted $ for food I didn't eat.
google avatar

Rochelle W.

Yelp
Stopped by for breakfast and after being seated and getting started with my coffee, I noticed a roach on the wall which quite naturally caused me to loose my appetite. Sorry flying biscuit but you have to do better

Dolores W.

Yelp
This was my second time at Flying Biscuit, but my first time at the new location on Dekalb Ave. I ordered the Flying Biscuit Breakfast and it was very delicious. The food came out hot and within 15 minutes of ordering. I was really impressed. From the moment I walked through the door, the Customer Service was impeccable. I sat at the bar and enjoy the sweet ambiance of the new place. It was busy, but they were able to still pay attention to their customers. I will be going back and taking my grandson.
google avatar

Julia G.

Yelp
Flying Biscuit is an iconic spot in Atlanta and the Candler Park location is my favorite. It has the most character with lots of fun decor! It can get pretty crowded on weekends, so try to come early to beat the brunch crowd. This time I ordered the Biscuit Eggs and Gravy, which came with cheesy eggs (cheese is optional) and "creamy dreamy grits" - which are indeed creamy and dreamy. My friend got a waffle with peach compote, but the waffle and the topping were way too sweet for my taste. Service was pretty fast. Will say I found it odd that the sign on the front of the door says they only take card (no cash) yet there was still a fee for using my credit card on the receipt. Oh well. We had to get going so I didn't ask, but something for management to be aware of! For two people, it ended up being around $50 with gratuity. Can't eat here every day but when you want a fluffy biscuit, this is the spot!!
google avatar

Nadine A.

Yelp
FBC has been my go to breakfast spot on the way to work. Staff are friendly and I love the breakfast bowls especially the shrimp and grits. The biscuit that always accompany the meal is always scrumptious.
google avatar

Lisa O.

Yelp
Quintessential Southern food served with warmth and enthusiasm by a Senegalese family. You'll be stuffed when you leave, but also full of cheer.

Hugh S.

Yelp
This restaurant just moved into this new location. I was seated promptly, not busy. Ordered a scrambled egg dish and a pancake... the organic pancake came out LONG after I was finished with the eggs. I refused to eat the pancake, had them take it off my check . WARNING the kitchen is not coordinated. PLUS they charge 3.5% if you use credit or debit cards. That charge equated pancake I didn't eat. ALSO I ordered decaf coffee. The waitress said twice the coffee Americano was decaf. I am hesitating to leave because I feel like I've had a double shot espresso.
google avatar

Quinton M.

Yelp
Flying Biscuit was very tasty to me. I ordered the "Oh My Grits" Bowl with Shrimp and eggs scrambled with White Cheese and spinach. Also, I ordered Grits with just White Cheddar cheese. I was craving good cooking grits. Both the bowl and side were amazingly delicious. I ordered it to go and ate it in my car, so I can't tell you how the staff was, but the restaurant's decor was ok. It felt more like a college dorm than a restaurant with many colors. But it was overall four stars because the food was delicious.

Dave T.

Yelp
The service seas atrocious. No one checked on us once. No coffe refills. I don't think they have enough people working there., food was adequate

Leon B.

Yelp
I occasionally receive door dash orders from this location and I only have issues when one employee when I pick customers orders. I have to wait long periods of time when this slender young caucasian lady is at the front. Everyone else I am in and out in less than 5 minutes but with her it takes 20 to 30 minutes every time. All other courier drivers are in and out whether they come in before or after I do when she's up front. I don't know her from a can of paint and I have no idea why she does this but I thought someone in her chain of command needs to know what's going on. Because at the end of the day customer service is what sells....
google avatar

Farrah S.

Yelp
OMG I was super pleased with my visit here!! The wait was about an hour long but we'll worth it. Umar was working the door and kept us up on wait times with a smile. Once our table was ready Chris was our waiter. I wish I could give Chris 10 stars!!! His customer service was beyond great! Although they were very busy Chris worked the room with a smile and kept all his customers happy. Thank you Chris for a memorable experience. When I return I will definitely ask for Chris!!!
google avatar

James P.

Yelp
Great local breakfast spot! Inside is gritty and colorful with tons of seating. The service was quick, kind and efficient. We ordered the stuffed French toast and the California dreamer. The California Dreamer was nothing special, but still solid. It would be better for the bread to be toasted, it felt very floppy. The French toast is new to the menu and might need a bit of work - sweetness felt too artificial. But the grits, sausage, and biscuits were superb and make this a solid spot! Will definitely be coming back!
google avatar

Pascual S.

Yelp
I have never been more confident about giving a business five stars before in my life. The shrimp and grits were so magically delicious that it almost brought tears to my eyes. It felt like an opera of angels were singing sweet things into my taste buds--in reality, it was just the delightfully creamy grits and the juicy, savory shrimp combining together to create what can only be described as nothing short of perfection. If you don't believe they're worth a shot yet, I got it from Uber eats and had to warm it up in the microwave. And yes, it still gets 5 stars from me. Thank you so much and I look forward to coming in person next time!!!
