"Seasonal ingredients and wholesome cooking define this intimate restaurant, where French comfort foods like ratatouille and coq au vin are plentiful. Marinated for 48 hours in red wine and slow-cooked, the beef bourguignon is steeped in a flavorful red wine reduction to finish. For dessert, try the cherry clafoutis, a simple yet elegant dish loaded with fresh cherries and encased in a custardy cake. Sunday brunch offerings include classics like the croque-monsieur and ham and cheese crepe." - Will Reaume

My boyfriend and I had such a special experience here yesterday! We attempted to come here on my birthday 4 days ago, but that day there was a French conversationalist class going on and the kitchen had already closed. The owner was so nice and encouraged us to come back at a later day. We called ahead yesterday to make sure it was OK to come dine in and it ended up being a private dining experience. We dined on their back patio and were the only ones in the restaurant as they were working on setting some things up in the main area. The chef, Alexander, was so nice and his mom runs the restaurant. They are from France and offer delicious menu items. They both were very hospitable and it felt as if we were in their home by how warm they treated us. Alexander made us a yummy appetizer that I forget the name of. It had quail egg and caviar. We both had savory crepes. I had the ham and cheese and my boyfriend had the ratatouille with egg. The portions were generous and really tasty. For dessert, Alexander informed us he had just baked some crème brûlée that was outstanding and so of course we had to get it! We watched him blow torch the liquor and it was delicious. It was one of the best dining experiences we’ve had and we can’t wait to go back again. Photography credit goes to my boyfriend, Park Photography!

We had an absolutely delicious and delightful dinner here. If you are looking for authentic French cuisine look no further. This food is amazing and the staff is lovely. We will definitely be back.

Only one word describes this place. Wow! We ordered the savory quiche and crepes and they were amazing ! Claude and Estelle were so welcoming. Next time we are in Michigan we will eat here every day. It’s nice to see the owner take so much pride in her food. Thank you French Lady for the best breakfast ever!

Google
What an amazing restaurant and a truly authentic French dining experience. Before I talk about the food my wife and I enjoyed I feel I must give my hats off to the honor and chef for a phenomenal job. She informed us ahead of time that due to some staffing issues she was there by herself. Please understand that servicing a nearly full restaurant full of patrons by yourself when you are cooking everything from scratch is no small feat. On to the food. My wife and I decided to split a mushroom and goat cheese quiche and salad as an appetizer. This was the most delicate, rich, and delightful quiche I've ever had. Our appetizer was followed by a cod dish and an oven baked chicken dish. Both were prepared to perfection and very well seasoned. The food presentation was incredible as we both expected. This was our first time here, as my wife decided to take me here for my birthday dinner. This is a restaurant that you must experience multiple times, as to me you changes often. Please do yourself a favor and try this restaurant if you are in the market for authentic French cuisine. If I didn't mention this before, the chef and owner is actually from France. Please visit, you won't be disappointed.

Okay, I haven’t been so ecstatic for a while now! This place has been my discovery of the year! We found it by accident on Google and I fell for the reviews and the menu.I’m so happy we got here! We got carrot bisque, it was incredible. Silky soft, smooth, rich and creamy. It felt like this dish was making love to my mouth! We also got quiche with mushrooms and goat cheese. It comes with the light salad, tomatoes and balsamic a sauce (I think..). The quiche beyond satisfying. The crust is there, fresh and light, quiche mouse has a rich creamy, and cheese flavour, it’s lighter than air and melts in your mouth right alway. Bomb! And we closed it with beef bourguignon. Braised beef in wine sauce was very soft, glistening, and juicy, comes with rice and a some vegetable (forgot it’s name). On desert we got chocolate mousse and crème caramel, delicious! What can I say, this place is exceptional! They use only fresh produce bought only at farmers markets, they cook fresh daily from scratch. I believe they also change a menu every day. Claude and young women that helps her are so nice and lovely. It was simply a pleasure be there and chat with them! A few customers came in and Claude welcomed them personally. Some reviews were saying the food is pricey, but since it’s fresh food they use and Birmingham, that’s totally makes sense. Overall it felt more than just a lunch, it was a great experience meeting someone who loves what they’re doing, and getting a gastronomic satisfaction. I will most definitely come back here again.

Google
Such a cute place! Claude is the chef and owner who mostly runs the whole place herself! She is a very cute, kind lady. We went here for lunch and got a savory crepe and quiche. The menu changes daily since Claude makes everything from scratch also based on seasonal ingredients. The food was amazing - the quiche was so fluffy and soft, perhaps even better than the quiches I’ve had in Paris! The crepe was similar to the authentic crepes I’ve had in france before as well. I appreciate that the portions are filling but won’t leave you uncomfortably full. Go here if you’re looking for authentic French cuisine - very cute ambience as well :)

OK so this was a new adventure for me and my godson. We are trying new culture of food. This was a new flavor. My godson was not the biggest fan but I thought it was OK. The carrots were amazing and the beef was tender. The sauce was different. It's a up and coming restaurant Very small and cozy. I liked it.

Google
Very quiet and cozy cafe tucked in Birmingham. You notice extreme friendliness of the owner and the staff as soon as you step through the door. Cozily decorated and furnished, the tables will remind you of those nice, soft home dinners with family at the table. Now food. For the appetizer we had Vichyvoisse soup - delicate potatoes, leeks, and cream pureed soup, a heavenly cloud in a cup, served cold. I ordered cheese and ham crepe and my wife ordered goat cheese and mushroom quiche. Both came with the salad. The crepe was generously stuffed and cheese and ham, with some melted cheese on top. The flavors are perfectly balanced, a definition of a savory crepe. Quiche was so light and puffy, almost souffle-like, one tender bite melts in your mouth. For deserts we ordered chocolate mousse and blueberry vanilla tart. If you thought about the perfect ending to any meal, this was it. The perfect pairing for that was freshly grinded coffee with French sugar on the side. Can't recommend that place enough! Absolute gem of a place with a true French cuisine that's extremely hard to come by in Metro Detroit! Bon appétit! Viva la France!

Yelp
I found this place because I met the owners at the Farmington farmers market several times and I tried finance and merengue and quiche. I loved them all. Then I tried cassoulet in France. So I went to the restaurant to try cassoulet. I ate crepe and had cassoulet to go. Crepe with mushroom was to die for. I felt like I was in France. I had tarte tatan for dessert. It was nicely done. So happy I went there. The owner was very kind and welcoming.

Yelp
I ordered a custom birthday cake for my dad's 98th (!) birthday and the owner made the most delicious , beautiful cake. So fresh and not too sweet , perfect ! He loved it . Highly recommend this charming restaurant and I will be back next time I am visiting Michigan !

Yelp
This is a super cute little Neighborhood gem outside of downtown Birmingham snuggled amongst the lush parks and residential areas surrounding the restaurant. We were looking for a French place for a light brunch and came across this place on Yelp and decided to give it a try. We were confused if it was just a catering service or if had dine in options and called the store to confirm. The owner confirmed that they have both dine in and private chef / catering services. When you walk in, the store isn't very large. It probably fits about 6-7 small dining tables total So depending on when you come, you may not find a spot immediately. However there are some Items that you could buy to go. We did end up dining in and ordered a sandwich and a quiche lunch Combo. The food was quite tasty but we had to buy some of the snacks for sale in the front because the wait for the food took almost 2 hours. The owner did warn us in advance he was working alone that day and that service would take longer than usual. Since we weren't in a rush, we stuck around and were satisfied with the quality of the food. The owner also comp'd us dessert being first time customers and for the long wait. He also shared his story of immigrating to the US, how he became a chef and his passion for sourcing organic farm to table ingredients. There's also a nice little deck in the back that the owner opens up to customers who want to host private events at his location. No extra venue fee and the dining menu can be custom ordered by the customer. They periodically offer Cooking classes on site too. Overall, nice experience and good quality food. They just need to work on Increasing labor capacity. Some tables left early and took their dishes to go because the wait was too long. Also another tip- They don't have a liquor license yet so if you're Looking to enjoy a glass of wine with your brunch, unfortunately they don't offer that here

Yelp
Having visited this place numerous times, once for dinner, more for breakfast, and stopping in to shop after a trip to the Birmingham Farmers' Market, it's long past time to offer praise to this little corner of France right in Birmingham. The atmosphere is not far from what you might find if you were dropped into Paris. The food offerings - made by the owner and her sister-(both French) - take the establishment to the next level. We had dinner here one time, a while back, and enjoyed a delicious boeuf bourguignon. On our most recent visit - for a late breakfast - we enjoyed some very fine coffee, brewed specially for us, and croissants. For those wishing an even deeper dive into the French culture, I understand that the proprietress offers conversational French classes from time to time. Will have to look into that. Although the place is small and modestly appointed, it somehow makes space for a vendor to sit at a table offering various treats. One time, they were selling fresh, hydroponically grown, strawberries (in early November!) sourced from a farmer in western Michigan. More recently, a vendor at the table had such items as cake in a jar ( you need to see it), pecan pie and other goodies. If you find yourself in Birmingham, recommend you stop into The French Lady. Who knows what you might find?

Yelp
Went to the $60 tea party this past Sunday, horrible experience. Wanted to introduce a friend to high tea and was severely disappointed with the food and timings. The description on the website said it was thing to be fancy, there wasn't anything fancy about it. The amount of snacks was not worth the money!!!

Bridgette Z.

Yelp
A cute little hidden gem with a small menu. We tried the quiche with goat cheese and mushrooms. Not many mushrooms to be found but a good layer of goat cheese. The service is very friendly and the interior is cute.

Yelp
I don't normally write reviews anymore (former Yelp Elite), but when I find a place particularly inspiring, I'll give them my time to give a review. This place is a 10/10 all around. Food: exceptional. Service: exceptional. The chef is super personable & eager to make your dining experience nothing short of, well, exceptional. Came here on a whim really just craving some crème brûlée, but boy, am I glad that I decided to indulge a little more. My partner and I also ordered a carrot bisque, which was thick, creamy, savory and overall just lovely. Way beyond my expectations. Next, we ordered a ham & cheese quiche that also failed to disappoint -- purely delectable. It was fluffy, but also silky smooth. Quite an amazing dish. It came with a refreshing little side salad as well with a house dressing that complimented the dish perfectly. Finally, the crème brûlée. Chef came to our table brandishing the freshly sugar-topped custard and a torch. Table side entertainment ensued as Chef torched the top of our dish, forming an as-fresh-as-you-can-get crème brûlée sugar glass top. After desert, Chef showed us his freshly garnered vanilla from Madagascar. Also of note, Chef has a back patio area that he allows guests to reserve without any surcharge. He also noted to us that he can make any dish with proper notice! Special evening? Night out with friends? Romance? Check out The French Lady.

Yelp
Excellent! Authentic food with fresh ingredients. The atmosphere is comfortable and casual. The owner is very friendly. I recommend you try it!

Yelp
If you are looking for a pain au chocolat the size of your head then The French Lady is the place for you! The charming little bakery opened in late September and someone how I missed that fact! I stopped in on a Sunday morning and was not disappointed. There were quiches fresh out of the oven and my eyes grew big as as I saw the giant pain au chocolat and the flaky croissants. There were also bags of meringues and a refrigerator case with tasty savory meals to take home. I will definitely come back to try more of the menu. The pain au chocolat was light and full of flaky layers with the sweet kiss of chocolate. Le pain au chocolat était délicieux! Yelp
Good food, but over priced for the portion size. Service was scatter brained. We weren't offered a beverage, soup or salad. I was hoping for better, but it just wasn't.

Yelp
The woman who owns this bistro, Claude, is bright, passionate, warm, and kindhearted. I really loved speaking with her. There is literally nothing more special than a business owner who puts their whole heart into what they do. The food is wonderful: filling and decadent. It feels like a mixture between "home-style" and upscale French cooking. Truly delicious. We got the chicken basquette and ham and cheese quiche (can't remember the French name). Plus the blueberry tarte with custard. All three are amazing. I'm just so happy Claude's restaurant exists and hopefully is being appreciated by the community at large. This is the kind of business -- one with vitality, charm, authenticity, and soul -- that we should be striving to keep alive. I just so appreciate it!

Yelp
The French lady is a true neighborhood gem. The food is clearly made from scratch with the freshest ingredients. The quiche is absolutely delicious. There is noticeable attention to detail and quality emanating not only from the food but also the service. We enjoyed the quaint ambience. Our only regret is that we didn't stop in sooner. We would give this restaurant 6 stars if we could!

David M.

Yelp
Absolutely love this place. The owner is just so kind and sweet. Excellent food and atmosphere that is authentically French. We had the cheese and baguette appetizer plate, carrot bisque soup and mushroom and goat cheese quiche with French macaroons for dessert.

Elite Chiropractic A.

Yelp
The food was magnificent. The flavors have great depth and are lovely. The quiches are too die for. The service is fantastic and very intimate with Claude, the owner and chef, serving you food along with the lovely waitress. We will definitely be back, especially since they have a seasonal menu! I also love that they sell French products such as bread flour, jelly's, sauces, and pre-made food to go.

Katy A.

Yelp
We made a reservation for Easter brunch after church when family was in town. Ages 5 to 50 found something from the menu to enjoy and we sampled everything. The owner was onsite and ensured an authentic atmosphere for our group, making recommendations as appropriate. I encourage my language students to come here to experience French dishes and meal culture.

Tony C.

Yelp
While stopping by The Birmingham Wine Shop to pick a bottle of wine, I passed this quaint restaurant called The French Lady. I ordered their recommended bacon-wrapped quail with roasted potatoes to go. Wow! Although a bit pricey it was a tasty authentic French meal! I recommend stopping by.

Jehrin A.

Yelp
The best Quiche I have ever had. Excellent desserts too. Farm to Table food. Everything was fresh, delicious and very clean restaurant!

Maryann M.

Yelp
We went for Tea today and were extremely disappointed with the food for the inflated price Of 60.00.The advertisement on FB was not what we got. The wait time took so long. The chef was not prepared. The event started late and moved into the dinner hour. The presentation was poor. The portions were more super tiny. The sandwich filling was sparce and the bread dry.No garnishes to speak of.There were not crossaints, sciones ,jelly or Clotted cream. People walked out of the place when they looked at their prison quality meal. Nothing screamed French. The desert cup was creamy custard style that was very average.Best joke was the chocolate mousse was in a Costco style free sample cupI called it a jello shot that made us laugh. She gave a cute little sugar candy bag which was thoughtfully wrapped. The china cups were cute. The Chef turned harpest was a unique touch if there was more preperation for her event. Sorry, it was false advertisement! Cudos to the table that walked out and stated "This is not what we are use to"

Blake Z.

Yelp
I literally became emotional eating the cassoulet (a la the critic in ratoutille.) It was so soulful - so heatwarming and perfectly harmomious in its flavors - that I do not believe it can ever be improved upon. It was literally perfect. It was the absolute highest caliber of food possible. I've been blessed to eat at the best restaurants in the world. My job requires me to travel internationally and take out prospective clients - so good food is a constant. this meal was as good or better than anything I've had from 1/2/3 star michelin restaurants. The price is absurd for the quality. I look forward to eating everything else on the menu.

Tonia R.

Yelp
Had some errands to run in Downtown Birmingham, and thought I'd stop in to check out The French Lady. It also happens to be restaurant week in Birmingham, so they had items not always on their menu. I asked Claude Bouly, the owner, to choose my lunch for me, and I'm so happy I did. She chose Cassoulet for me, a white bean casserole with sausage and beef. My understanding is each region in France claims this dish to be their specialty, with their own little tweaks and changes. I'm so glad I let her choose, because I would have never selected this. It was fabulous - slow cooked over 14 hours. They buy their ingredients from small, locally owned farms. Yum! And their cherry custard tart (made with Michigan tart cherries) was amazing. It's rare that I'm out and about on a Friday afternoon - truly enjoyed my time looking at my book and eating lunch in this charming, relaxing, place.

Rizwan L.

Yelp
Such a simple and home vibe. I wish the menu had more seafood options throughout the week, but I guess that's part of the charm as well.

Holly M.

Yelp
Went on a Saturday for a girls day breakfast celebrating a birthday. Menu is very limited. There were 2 breakfast dishes available. It was 10:00am and we were being offered Coq au vin, Ratatouille, and Risotto. Disappointed they did not have croissants, thought this would be a staple?? However quiche and crepes were delicious. Would go back to try the main courses. Overall enjoyed.

Kate B.

Yelp
Met The French Lady at the Lavender Festival in Milan. She was one of the caterers who took a booth during the festival. We were delighted to see someone there with real French recipes like clafoutis and quiche and macarons. Her display was delightful and it was a treat that she made crepes on site. I chose a chocolate tartlette and my sister got a crepe with orange marmalade. Every bite was wonderful. Made with fresh butter and quality ingredients, it didn't disappoint. If I was getting married or hosting an event, I would give her a call!

Andrew P.

Yelp
Superbly fresh. Finely executed French cuisine. Claude, the proprietor, is a gracious host and a masterful chef de cuisine.

Minerva Alicia T.

Yelp
A small quaint place to visit when in Birmingham area. Claude is very pleasant & accommodating. Got lots of to go goodie's to consume at home. The portions are a good size.

Carl P.

Yelp
Amazing food and friendly authentic French owners. It was so enjoyable, I didn't even mind that they didn't have champagne (no alcohol served here.). Cheers!

Wendy C.

Yelp
Went there today for lunch and it was so delicious I stopped by after work to order take out for dinner. So far I've tried the quiche and almond croissant and they were both amazing. I love looking for the best almond croissants in the metro area and in other cities. This is hands down the best almond croissant I have ever had in my life. Flakey buttery and just the perfect amount of sweetness.

Barron M.

Yelp
Delicious croissants, breads, meringue, macarons, quiche and other French delicacies. We bought various entrees that we heated up at home and they were delicious. The coffees great too. Most of all the French lady is very nice, accommodating and plays the harp like an angel. We highly recommend this place!

Michelle R.

Yelp
Great !!! Real traditional French food ! I'm French and enjoyed it a lot ! Just come and try it ! You won't be desappointed !

N T.

Yelp
Food was deliciously prepared. My husband and I had coq au vin and chicken basquaise which both chickens were cooked to perfection, so tender and full of flavor. The meringue (which I was never a fan of because it was always too sweet for my liking) was also a nice surprise with right amount of flavor and sweetness. Service was also good with a friendly smile. I will surely come back and bring friends.

Wendy H.

Yelp
Difficult to rate with stars and here is why. After bringing home several dishes from their Farmers Market concession, we wanted to try dinner in the restaurant. As for the take home food. Quiches are exceptional. Light, silky, flavorful. The Moroccan Lamb stew was wonderful. Beef bourg was good not exceptional. Sauce was good but meat just not as juicy and flavorful as expected. Now for dinner( we had a reservation). Interesting evening. Owners charming and wonderful, son and mother. Mother cooking and played the harp for us, we were delighted. There only a few tables, we were the only customers. Very limited menu, I think 4 main items. I just remember the chicken dish was cold and they took back to reheat. I'm sure it had come out of fridge and was made before. Cauliflower soup was rich and creamy, ok, but I prefer less rich, less creamy more chunks of cauliflower. No wine or liquor. Based on our experience, this is not a dinner restaurant. Carry-out, maybe lunch. Also pricey for what it is but that being said, I will buy their product to take home because of the high quality of ingredients and preparation. The baked goods looked wonderful at the Farmers Market but I did not try. Yet!

Manju P.

Yelp
Ordered a carry-out during restaurant week. The stuffed eggplant was delectable and the succulent bourguignon was the piece de resistance, nicely complemented with a silky mousse. The friendly staff gets an A+.

Diana S.

Yelp
Our Easter brunch was wonderful. Quiches that would melt in your mouth and silky smooth soup. Decadent desserts.

Aubrey D.

Yelp
We just moved to Birmingham and just got the quiche Forestière. In addition to their small restaurant, they also have a booth at the Farmer's Market. The quiche was delicious and hands down the best I've had. We also got the fish soup. I tried a bite of it cold and loved it. I am excited to try all their dishes. Glad we are so close to great food and supporting small businesses!

Mambru P.

Yelp
The bakery is very good but the other food is extremely expensive and three out four dishes we have tried have been pretty good but not exceptional. These were the Brandade, the quail that she made around New Years, and the carrot soup. On the other hand, she makes a superb stuffed eggplant that I could have anytime but at $18. for half and eggplant I find it prohibitive. Check it out, but order the baked goods and the quiche.

Kevin S.

Yelp
Wow, one of the best quiche I've ever eaten. Silky smooth and full of flavor. I'll definitely be popping in again to grab a few more. Need to try that ham and cheese croissant as well. I resisted last time but don't think I can again.

Courtney W.

Yelp
So nice to have another option for for in Oakland Twp. The food is always fresh and delicious!
