One of my go-to spots for fresh fish. Lots of fresh and local selection for a reasonable price. The workers will ice your fish for you if you ask. They also have a small pantry and produce section with some necessities. Swing by the butcher and bakery next door and you've got an awesome day of eating ahead.

Douglas Fuchs

Google
Their Smelt (Ballard candy bars) are so fun and tasty. Plus the selection of fish and produce is so nice to have.

Rob Boaz

Google
Great selection, friendly staff, and very helpful. Everything you need for a seafood feast

My parents visit Seattle a few times a year and during each visit my dad requests that we make the drive from Normandy Park to Ballard for the crab cakes at The Fresh Fish Co!! I happily agree to drive, they’re that good!!! Wish I had a photo, but they’re always gone directly after being cooked! Delicious!

Google
Great spot with an amazing selection of fresh seafood. We had the crab cakes which were great. I also love the local selection of wine and beer plus some fresh produce and pasta.

Google
I am on a tight budget but since I've given up eating meat, I am always looking for some delicious seafood. I stopped by several months ago to check out their crab cakes (have had in the past) but after covid and crab harvest scarcities the price was over my budget. Instead they recommended their shrimp or fish cakes. I tried the shrimp cakes and now have them several times a week. They freeze well so it's super convenient. Recently they recommended their new halibut cakes and now I am an avid fan of both the shrimp and halibut cakes. Both are delicious and affordable. They are big so a half a cake is a perfect serving for me. Now I am a weekly regular. So happy!

Google
We just wanted to buy a small amount of pickled herring in sour cream and they were kind enough to give us a sample!

Tammy

Google
Wow I remember this place used to have fresh fish really nice setup when do this place about a week ago and I would say more than half the fish on display was not fresh crab cakes are huge huge outstanding prices. and they don't even have business to sell them so they keep them in the freezer too for the same price $26.99 or $29.99 each. Was really disa pointed in quality in case and produce. Rotten potatoes and more.

Yelp
I came here Fathers Day weekend to get King Salmon. I called several days in advance to check availability, and I was told they'd have a fresh shipment coming in a certain day, at a certain time. I called the day of, and sure enough, they had it in. My FIL said it was better than any restaurant, and the best cut/salmon he's ever had. Ever. In his life. He also said it was pretty darn fresh haha. This place is going to be my go to for fresh fish. And we came all the way from Bothell!! It's more than worth it! Pricing great too! Customer service is wonderful too!

Quinn B.

Yelp
Great place been going for years. If I started my own fishmonger store I would come here ask the owner for her business plan. Moved out of Ballard but when I visit I come here and the place next door. The fish co has the best potato salad like better than your gramma. beautiful seafood well appointed produce section and Wine at decent prices. Heck go in here and walk out with a whole date worthy meal..well save dessert which is why we go next door too. QuinmsterHonest

Sierra H.

Yelp
Really good selection and a good price too. Guy at the counter was super friendly. Got the smoked salmon collar and it was amazing. Also got some mussels and needed white wine so I just picked up a bottle that was sitting out so front of the case and OMG the wine they selected was so good and matched the mussels perfectly. The mussels were fresh and only one was broken, and I think it's because I washed them a little too aggressively . When I cooked them they all opened and tasted amazing.

Yelp
I used to like this place, but the staff aren't being safe during COVID. I saw one them with a mask pulled down while working with the fish in the case and breathing all over it. I lost my appetite and left.
google avatar

James M.

Yelp
Poor customer service and a rip-off! Ask for a certain weight of fish... they always go over and don't ask if it's okay. Plenty of other businesses that have better service and product!

Frank Lloyd W.

Yelp
It's hard to fathom how Ballard's karma caused us to be blessed with both The Fresh Fish Co. and Beast and Cleaver right next store. Fancy a pastry or dessert? Then you've got Larsen's right there, too. Three awesome specialty stores, all in a row. The Fresh Fish Co. has a wonderful assortment of seafoods. Razor clams, lobster tails the size of a baseball bat, various salmon varieties, glorious fish filets and shellfish. My three favorite items here are the shrimp cakes, the creamed herring and the homemade poke. The potato salad and pasta salad with shrimp are also on point. You're gonna have a great meal if you shop for it here. Count on it.

Yelp
My kids went in on a whim after we picked up some pastries at Larsen's. This is small market with a nice curated selection of seafood. I just got home and tried the smoked black cod - and I have to tell you my dudes that it was fantastic. Really well done - some of the best I've had. The mistake many people make when smoking white fish is that they over salt it - and in the smoker that gets intensified. The salt here was perfect - it tasted deliciously smoky. Really top notch. Will return.

Yelp
This quaint fish shop has a great selection of seafood but the cioppino here is a MUST. I came for a visit from California and my host insisted we come here. I am still thinking about that bowl of hot cioppino that the young lady behind the counter so graciously topped with a generous amount fresh crab. The quality of fish is also top notch. We grabbed a few variations to cook that evening and it tasted straight from the pier. Pay em a visit. You won't be disappointed.
google avatar

Stella Z.

Yelp
Has tuna poke and sashimi grade tuna. The lady at the counter is very nice. I'd return when I crave some simple sashimi.
google avatar

Zachary H.

Yelp
The gentleman behind the counter provided good insight on what he believed was the best part of the salmon. He suggested the tail because it was boneless and got crispier. They also had some samples that were tasty. Good service and good products!
google avatar

Jacqueline D.

Yelp
I came here to buy some fresh sushi-grade fish and noticed great reviews here. I visited on a Sunday, and parking was a little difficult to find (just ended up parking on the residential streets). To be honest, this place was smaller than I expected, but definitely delivered. The butcher was very helpful in helping me find what I needed, and even gave me some Ahi Poke samples (yum!). He was very resourceful and helped me understand the differences between sushi-grade, sashimi-grade etc fish, and we chatted about the seafood they received in the shop. It was great to work with someone so knowledgeable, and he even helped ration out how much fish I needed. The shop is very clean and doesn't feel like a fish shop at all. It's very organized and well-maintained. The prices were reasonable, but a little higher than other pl around. I'm not aware of the differences in quality, but this won't stop me from coming back. The trip was so much easier than I thought, and if I'm in the area, I would definitely come back.

Yelp
Well first of all, the yummy cooked fish pictures people posted here are food they cooked at home. This company does not serve cooked food, like some fish markets. My friend and I wanted to make Ciopinno and this is be perfect place to get all the ingredients! They are fresh and delicious. The guy who helped me was super nice. And it wasn't that over the top expensive. A bonus is that there is a fresh bakery next door. I picked up a Tuscan bread & some cookies and we had an amazing meal!!! The fish market even has sausages. And fresh sauces like the Ciopinno sauce. I wanted to buy one of everything here!
google avatar

Yelp
Between this place and the fish counter at the Ballard market there is no reason to ever eat anything less than perfect fish. Dropped in Thursday and left with smoked sockeye, a whole crab and sole. All good, fresh and the prices are reasonable. I am always bemused by people who spend big bucks for meat and bitch about fish prices. High quality fish at Fresh Fish Company is a great deal. It's been a year since my first review of this place and I get and cook a whole lot of fish from this place and it's always perfect fish and outstanding customer service. And great prices for the quality- love this place!
google avatar

Yelp
I come here from time to time, convenient location. Was surprised by the quality of customer service. I asked the guy in a hat behind the counter for a hand sanitizer (a norm these days due to corona virus pandemic). I got a weird ass excuse on why they don't have it. I picked up a plastic fork from a glass, it was covered in some sort of oil. I showed it to the guy in the hat, and he threw it on the floor. That's a totally shit service. To the owner: suggest you take care of this.

Maddy R.

Yelp
Great little shop with high quality fish! Big fish too! They offer a lovely sampling of things you might need to have nearby like milk and eggs and some veggies too! Such thoughtful folks work there, they always give me a treat to bring home to my dog

Yelp
Love. As a local we try to purchase fish from PCC or Pike Place Market. This fish market has not just the freshest and local fish selections but also sausages and a few meat selections. Great staff. Very helpful and patient with our questions. Surprising wine and beverage selection and everything you could want for a quick and fresh locally supplied dinner! Small but relevant supply of produce, bread, crackers, spreads cheese and pastas. In and out with everything we needed in a snap! Salmon was delicious. It is not convenient, but if you are in the area it is worthwhile. Parking is on the street but plentiful on a weekday.

Yelp
Great found gem! This is a super nice, small family run shop. Had some really nice quality fresh and frozen seafood product as well as some beef and vedge available. Wine and beer, this is pretty much a one stop high quality neighborhood shop. The staff was very friendly and I will definitely go out of my way to come back here again. By the way, the smoked fish products are AMAZING!

Yelp
We have been here a bunch of times. I know a few other reviews mention it, but I've been eating pickled herring now for a number of years. I like to think I was a viking or a Swede or something in a prior life. But anyway, there's is about the best you are gonna find. Anywhere, but certainly the best I've had around here. They also offer a sour cream version that is good, but it is very rich and you can probably only do small doses of that. One time we got the cioppino and that was amazing. And since they make it with different fish each time, it has all kinds of repeat appeal. Really good landjaeger too.
google avatar

Monica S.

Yelp
Thank you to the staff at Fresh Fish Company for providing excellent service and seafood options. We picked up some fresh halibut and seafood pasta salad that was delicious. If anyone is looking for seafood give them a try!
google avatar

Jason F.

Yelp
Was literally driving home with plans to buy food from the grocery store when we saw a sign for fresh seafood and we u turned to take a look. Got a nice Halibut fillet and some ribeye. Both were wonderfully fresh and delicious. Very nice and friendly help too. Love nice little neighborhood stores like this...
google avatar

Yelp
Always helpful and friendly! I've been getting my fish from Margaret for years and feel like she's family.
google avatar

Nicole F.

Yelp
We always come here when we're looking to make mussels. They've always made sure to check them, so we don't pay for dead weight. Great customer service and I love trying any samples they happen to have out. Plus it's always a good reason to stop by next door at Larsen's for a pastry!
google avatar

Adrienne A.

Yelp
I brought my fresh caught fish in to ship they were amazing helpful and I bought shrimp cakes to cook with my fish. Great place super people will go there again

Yelp
Today I stopped at Larsen's bakery that happens to be next-door to the Fresh Fish Company. The smell of fresh fish was very inviting so I decided to check it out! It's a big store front, very clean and organized, with fully stocked cases of fish, beef, jerky, salads, and so much more. What I especially liked about this place is it's more like one-stop shopping. You could pick up your meal protein, a variety of vegetables, a simple salad and/or sides, and even a bottle of wine that they will happily recommend! I met two staff members today. Both were very friendly, welcoming, and informative/knowledgeable about the products! They also told me that on Saturdays and Sundays, they do free samples of their smoked fish products. I purchased a few goodies that were quite delicious and I definitely plan on going back! I gave this place four stars because the prices were higher than my usual fresh fishmonger in South Seattle. However, not wanting to battle traffic, this is still a highly recommended spot to get all of your fresh seafood goodies! Thanks again Fresh Fish Company!

Yelp
Nice remodel, however service has dramatically gone down hill. Very sorry that see. Used to buy about 150.00 per mo. No more until new hires happen w a focus on caring for the customer.

Yelp
This is the best place in Seattle to buy fish. (Former Alaskan fish grader & slimer here). I know my fish. It's better than the market, better than, well everywhere in Seattle. They always have the freshest fish and the best quality. Try the Yearling Otsters (smaller than the Extra Smalls). Just got some killer salmon. Right now the also have Halibut, Halibut cheeks, crab, prepared crab cakes and more. If it's in season they have it.

Carly O.

Yelp
We recently bought our first house and were delighted to discover this gem just down the street. We visit The Fresh Fish Co at least 2x/week and enjoy their fresh cuts of salmon, halibu, black cod, sole, and more, all which are really fresh and fairly priced. They stock enough extra items - tomatoes, lemons, panko bread crumbs, avocados, etc. - so you can prepare a full meal without a trip to the store. For a special treat, try the crab and artichoke dip!
google avatar

Yelp
This place has a decent selection of seafood with terrible customer service. If I had other options anywhere nearby I would go elsewhere, as it is I'm stuck giving them my business
google avatar

Brian W.

Yelp
The cioppino is pretty solid, the sausage selection (!) is surprisingly good, and yes, the seafood, so long as you stick to the local specials, is excellent. Wasn't super impressed by the sushi grade ahi tuna, but the price was quite reasonable and the quality wasn't bad. The king crab legs and the raw oysters on hand were impressive looking-- honestly probably the way to go! Lack of nearby parking can be a bit of a pain, but the friendly staff helps-- you're welcomed as soon as you walk in!

Yelp
Amazing selection, friendly staff. My go to place for meat and sometimes even produce.

Yelp
Set: Me sitting in our apartment's living room, facing the BF Ryan, talking about Latvian heritage and food. Me: It doesn't matter where you're born and raised; as long as you have a Latvian family, you will learn to eat weird stuff like chopped liver, duck legs, pickles and herring in cream with dill. And the best thing, you'll learn to love them. BF: Hmmmmm...(frowns). (Then I take a piece of my delicious pickled herring from Fresh Fish and put it on my tongue, savor it and...mmmmm. BF looks pale, he's a non-fish person). Me: You know, babe, this is the flavor that reminds me of Christmas and Easter at my grandparents...it's such a heart-warming food! BF: Herring? Really? Me: Oh yes! And besides the beautiful fish and exquisite Italian sausages Fresh Fish carries, their version of herring in cream is wonderful, too. Everything at this place is so fresh! The herring almost melts in your mouth...(one more piece, mmm mmm mmm) BF: OK (BF turns his head away). Me: Oh, yes. I love it. (BF seems to be about to faint). Me: What's wrong, babe? BF: Herring doesn't have a particularly appealing smell...ugh. Me: Oh babe, am I killing you with my fish/dragon breath? BF: I think I'm going to faint now... Herring is that kind of food you can't even look at when you dislike it. But if you love it, make sure you make your trip to Fresh Fish because they carry the best in town. Now I need to go get some extra-strong minty gum...

Yelp
Typically, I buy my fish at Uwajimaya or Pike Place Market. One day, I had a craving for ahi poke and quite frankly, was not enthusiastic about hunting it down. So, I decided to make some for myself, using recipes from my native Hawaii. I saw Fresh Fish Company on Yelp. I was confused because the location it was citing was a few blocks from where I used to live in Ballard but I didn't remember it being there. I was going to be in Ballard anyway and decided to drive by. Surprise! It was right there. The shop was clean and curiously, lacked that "fishy" smell that you get at other places. The refrigerated cases held things like dairy products and pre-packaged goods to buy. There was definitely fish and other seafood there. I picked out some yellowfin tuna and a few hearty scallops (just because) and went on my way. Now, I won't say it was cheap but then again, I never really expect it to be. I'm looking for good quality and I feel like that was what I got. Aside from the seafood, there was also a small selection of canned seafood products, fresh produce, and sausage. Now, I do remember a sausage place there. The clerk was super helpful in every sense of the word. She was knowledgeable about the products, took the time to tell us the story of how them came to be there, and was very nice.
google avatar

Kimberly B.

Yelp
You are kidding yourself if you think Fresh Fish is more costly than Pike Place. This is the best fish I've had since moving back from Alaska. Fresh, reasonable, and very well-cut. Totally worth it, and very friendly, helpful staff.
google avatar

Meg B.

Yelp
I moved in about 3 blocks away from Fresh Fish this last summer and damn am I glad! I like not having to go over to Fisherman's Terminal or trying to deal w/the crowds at Pike Place. I love, love, LOVE seafood and will eat just about anything from the sea and I know good seafood. I have fisherman friends for crying out loud! This stuff is the freshest, the selection is great (try the black cod!), the service is top notch (I'm sure all the employees have worked here for years) and they also have CasCioppo Bros. sausages. Next to seafood, sausage is my other favorite source of protein so I'm overjoyed. Besides that, you can find your pickled herring now that Olsen's closed down, and you can also pick up most other ingredients needed for dinner at home: pasta, french bread, lemon, wine/beer and you're set!

Yelp
So happy I found the Ballard Fresh Fish Co.! Everything is, indeed, FRESH. A little on the expensive side, but likely worth every penny. I got fresh, cooked dungeness crab, which they happily cleaned for me, $7.99/lb. While I waited, I checked out the cases of fish, shrimp and crab cakes, freshly made sausages, smoked salmon and of course fresh fish including sockeye salmon and black cod. It all looked fabulous!
google avatar

Shannon S.

Yelp
Thats a very solid 5 stars up there folks. Fresh Fish really lives up to their name, and then some. They are priced right, and for the quality they could charge a lot more. Besides the fish they have really great brawts and some thick ass bacon! This stuff will not shrivel in your pan. On the way home one night we realized we needed something, but we knew they were closing. We called, and they offered to stay open and they served us regardless of the time.

Yelp
Customer Service is Outstanding! I sent a package to Iowa in December. The package was sent to the airport on-time, but there was an unusual snowstorm IN Seattle that day. Unfortunately, the package sat at the airport for 2 days and by the time it got to IA, it wasn't "fresh fish" anymore. Now, there is NO WAY the Fresh Fish Co. could have predicted the weather, but nonetheless, they called me up and told me that they RESENT the same order to Iowa a few days later. I didn't even have to call?! The recipent was amazed by the "crabbiest-crab cakes" and I'm amazed by the service. They will get my mail-order business everytime I want to send seafood!
google avatar

Trip C.

Yelp
Found this place after popping into Larsen's for some fresh Kringle. Nice, relatively small, great displays of fresh fish. Yes, a little pricey but cheaper than hauling myself down to Pike Place for fresh halibut, so I'm not complaining at all. Nice staff, and we really enjoyed cooking up and devouring the fresh salmon I'd purchased there. We'll be back!
google avatar

Erin B.

Yelp
Smoked Black Cod. Landjaeger. Sausages. Really fresh fish. Crab cakes. SMOKED BLACK COD! Not only can you not find a lot this stuff anywhere else, I would never buy it anywhere else. To top it off, the staff are absolutely cool. They also sell beer and wine, and fresh vegetables and pasta. This is one of my favorite food stores in all of Seattle.
google avatar

MaiLinh N.

Yelp
I've been here a few time now and LOVE it! Staff are so friendly and helpful. Don't hesitate to ask about recipes, portions and how to safely store whatever you buy! The first time I stopped in, I was curious about trying to cook clams because I never had before. The gal helped me pick out how many pounds to get and how to store them. I stored them as she said but they all spoiled. I went back to buy more and she gave me a new batch free of charge! I was so pleasantly surprised! I cooked them that night and they were delicious! I've since been back a few times for clams and sausage. They have a great homemade sausage selection and we always pick up a couple when there. On the weekends, they have samples out and next time I'm in, I'm definitely buying the salmon spread- it's delicious on crackers. We are going to be regulars of this place. Lots of fresh and frozen options, even wine and basic produce (like potatoes, lemons, asparagus, etc). I hope they never go out of business

Yelp
This place is one of the gentle joys of city living. I was introduced to the Fresh Fish Company last summer when they were still in the delightfully obscene convenience store location. I was new to town and looking to by a large quantity of fish (trying to cater my own wedding). A friend pointed me to FFC and I haven't been the same since. The staff is friendly and helpful. They're a treasure trove of information without being in the way. I have even had a couple of great wine pairings thanks to their help. I have got to agree with Maria about the tuna - simply the best I have found. These guys will not sell you a bad piece of fish. Their honesty and commitment to quality is wonderful. But the real joy here come in three words (or two and a hyphenate) - SURF 'N TURF!!!! There is much more to Cascioppo Bros than just sausage. While sausage is their specialty, these guys have a wonderful little butcher counter going. These two businesses have a wonderful symbiotic relationship going. I have to admit, I feel very European these days. Everyday I look forward to stopping by FFC/Cascioppo Bros, then over to Top Banana, followed by a stop at Tall Grass Bakery for the foundation of my evening meal. Don't get me wrong, I love Ballard Market but there is something really special about getting to know your neighborhood butcher/fish monger, produce man, and baker.

Yelp
Great fish market in Ballard. Prices were good. Stuck with buying seafood only products even though the sausages looked good. The pickled herring was incredible - had to fight off little one for it (and Nana insisted that we bring her some for Sunday dinner). Didn't get a chance to try the smoked salmon (would have been nice if they had samples). Bought fish cakes and shrimp cakes (the crab cakes at $12+ each were just to pricey for me.....) and I'm assuming they must have been good because the girls cooked them up and devored them while I took a nap when I got home.... The only disappointment was the Cioppino - it was a nice tomato fish broth with lots of veggies - mine had 1 shrimp and a piece a fish the size of a tic tac : ( Would definitely shop here again if in this neighborhood.
google avatar

Andrew B.

Yelp
This place embodies everything I'm looking for in a neighborhood specialty market - friendly, knowledgeable staff and premium quality. The sign outside tells you what's freshest that day. I've purchased cuts of halibut, ahi tuna, salmon and opah there that were all among the best I've ever had.
google avatar

Eric O.

Yelp
Wooed by the gushing compliments of other fish fans, I tried Ballard's Fresh Fish Company on Saturday. Speaking on behalf of the service and product quality, this is a top shelf institution. Great suggestions and feedback, incredible quality (cod & crabcakes). At the register my sticker shock hurt a bit. But after frying 2 lbs of fresh ling cod and browning 3 enormous crab cakes (heavy on the crab, very little filling), I'm still a big fan of FFC. For those meals that require ultimate freshness and quality, it's worth a few extra clams to get the best.
google avatar

Jena E.

Yelp
I suppose "Fresh Fish and Weinies" or "FRESH MEATS" didn't sound as nice. But they do have a variety of animal fleshes. I picked up some sashimi-grade ahi tuna. Just as much as I could afford. I wish I had more flexible income, because in addition to the fish, mussels, sausages, and jerky there was beer, meat rubs, sauces, and all sorts of little jim-bobs to make dinner good. The staff are outstandingly polite - did everything short of bow after ringing me up.
google avatar

Andrew H.

Yelp
Basically this my favorite store. We live close and have been walking here forever, through a few iterations of the business. Their salmon dip is delicious, although I usually add a little smoked salmon to it. We love the fish, their brats/sausages, and they have a small but decent beer & wine selection. The staff is awesome, always friendly and helpful. And they do a nice sample snack tray on weekends.
google avatar

Marie C.

Yelp
Thanks to the owner at the Trident fish store down the street for telling me about this place. Got Ling Cod and some halibut. Also got 2 crab cakes. Eeekss...at $17.93 for 2 crabcakes they better be good. Did not disappoint..they were the best I've had! Awesome cakes with very little fillers. Fish was ok..but I think it was because the cakes were so good that nothng else mattered on my plate. This will be on my must visit places when in the Seattle area.

Yelp
Being an "out of towner", I did a little research and this place had great reviews. I like the selection and prices at Pike Place Market much better. If you are a local, this would be a nice alternative as parking and crowds are easier to deal with here.

Yelp
We had stopped at Larsen's bakery and then thought we'd stop in at Fresh Fish since we had wanted some salmon for dinner. Service was very prompt and friendly, the guys working had a good system worked out and greeted every customer. I picked out some ivory king salmon to take home. I also noted that they had some nice dungeness crab and they were only 6.99, same price as QFC! The salmon was quite expensive (23.95 per lb) but I hadn't looked at the price like a dummy and I wanted it, so I paid and went home. When it was time to cook it, I scored the skin side with a knife. This is when I noticed that there were a lot of scales left on the skin side. The more I looked the more scales I found. I had to scrape the skin and then wipe the fish with paper towel several times to get them all off. I have to say I was kind of pissed, I had spent a lot of money for this fish. Should I really have to scale it too (it was just a filet with skin on one side)? Allll was forgotten when this fish was on the dinner plate! OMG SO GOOD!! I've never had this kind of salmon and I've never had salmon so good! It was definitely worth the cost for such a luxurious piece of fish :D So, good product (minus the scales) good service and they also carry meats if you aren't in the mood for fish!
