"The picturesque town of Stockbridge plays host to this striking mustard-coloured pub with low beams, elegant décor and a wood-burning stove. The chatty team deliver appealing modern British dishes crafted from local produce. Homely bedrooms and a mile of River Test fishing rights complete the picture." - Michelin Inspector

The Best Restaurants and Pubs in the New Forest | Eater London

"Just yonder from the forest is the village of Stockbridge. Its rudely pretty high street is awash with food gaffs, but the most cherished is Greyhound on the Test. Stockbridge wild mushrooms on toast with garlic and sage, Broughton buffalo carpaccio, and the watercress (no doubt from nearby watercress-mecca, Alresford) with Old Winchester cheese and almond salad, are just a few winners from Chris Heather’s modern British repertoire." - Chloe Scott-Moncrieff

Had heard a lot about this spot and indeed had really been looking forward to heading there. A nicely put together pub; with elements of a truly great ‘gastro-pub’. A solid menu and indeed ‘prix-fix’ too. Charming staff whom from the off set were sadly clearly overwhelmed. Out of the starters the chicken terrine was tasty and well put together - the tomatoes from the prix-fix were hard and rather tasteless. Main courses were sadly average at best: bones in the sole and no flavour to the courgette pasta. The minute steak was flavoursome, but one would hope not to have gotten that wrong nonetheless. The child’s fish and chips was very good and enjoyed by our daughter. Puddings - chocolate delice tasty but way too cold - clearly served quickly (when asked where the puddings were) as we had already been waiting 20plus minutes. The olives we ordered with our drinks arrived after the main courses!? - we weren’t charged for these. It was clear - the issues were linked to understaffing that day (kitchen and on the floor) which in turn meant for very slow delivery of food and standards slipping beyond what they should be imagine. Have to say the young man and lady who served us - really tried and made effort. Would try it again if passing through as I suspect on a normal day it would be really good! Though - if the establishment is knowing full well that day they have limited staff - honour bookings but don’t allow loads of walk-ins…

Impressed! We had a lovely Saturday lunch here. My wife is raving about their Pumpkin veloute starter. The Ribeye and its baked potatoes were also cooked nicely. The freshly baked madeleines were a nice sharing treat for our table! Booking essentials, we saw a few people unable to get a table during our visit.

We booked the GOTT for a late lunch for my son's 21st birthday. On the way to the restaurant, the traffic was very heavy. Rather than risk turning up late, I called the GOTT to let them know. At this point, I was told that they stopped serving at 3 pm, the same time as our reservation, so we wouldn’t be able to eat. In the spirit of being fair, when I said that they had accepted my booking for 3 pm and that it was my son's 21st birthday, they did call back and offer to cook us ‘something’ from the menu, but we would have to choose there and then as we were driving along. Given the special occasion, we had no desire to start looking at menus whilst driving along the A34, and even less desire to be rushed once we had arrived. We therefore cancelled and went to the Hotel Du Vin in Winchester, who couldn’t have been more accommodating or more lovely. Over the years, we have been a loyal customer of the GOTT, but no longer, as they have lost our business forever after doing an excellent job of trying to ruin my son’s special day.

I have eaten here several times now, and no matter what you choose from the menu it is always exquisite, delicious and cooked to perfection. In the summer the garden areas are superb to relax in by the river. A beautiful hidden gem of a place.

We picked this restaurant for a lovely meal based on personal recommendations. We arrived on a beautifully warm evening in June. Not really knowing what to expect, we were shown three lovely areas; indoor tables as part of the bar / restaurant, an out door dining area directly at the rear and then garden area that is on the river with a separate garden bar. We went to the garden bar, ordered some drinks and then struggled to find any seating, so sat in the outdoor restaurant area. What a delightful setting. The dining area was not particularly busy, and we booked in advance, but the service was slow and not very attentive. The food, was wonderful and complemented with high quality wines.

Lovely food and service at the Greyhound. Michelle made us feel very welcome and was so lovely with my two boys. She couldn’t do enough to make our experience special. Would definitely recommend as a great place to eat.

We stayed in Leet 3 room for 3 nights. The room, bed and heating were fine. Flushing the toilet was extremely hard. My wife could not flush it and I had to 'pump' the two buttons 4 or 5 times and hold it in. Then it flushed. I complained but nothing was done - disappointing. The rest was fine.

Had been meaning to eat here for a while, and eventually things fell in to place for meeting up with some friends for a Saturday lunch. The service was lack lustre and inconsistent, depending on who was attending to you. The food was terribly disappointing. Actually felt quite let down. A real lack of flavour from any of the dishes that we had, despite a menu that promised lots. We had a decent bottle of Primitivo though.

Yelp
Ceviche was great, Sea Bream was perfection. French fries are the best I've ever had. Moderate prices. great personal service. I'll be back! FP

Yelp
Location, food and service were all very good, which is what you expect at this price range. But at a pre-ordered family meal, where we rang up and specified that my meal would not contain nuts. I am allergic so this is quite an important thing to get right! 10 mins after the main meal and it was apparent i'd ingested nuts at some point. Decent food and experience but if you think that the hours of painful stomach ache and discomfort are worth it then definitely dine here. Regards Will H
